3. Historical Critique Of The Canterbury Tales
Historical Critique on The Canterbury Tales The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey
Chaucer is one of the few examples that show how similar our stories are today
from the storytellers of the twelfth century. But just like in today s world, all modern
stories have influences. Most of the time it s from the world around us and the time
we are in. That is no different from The Canterbury Tales, as Chaucer s tales contains
many characters from many different walks of life and backgrounds. Geoffrey
Chaucers The Canterbury Tales provide a window onto medieval English society
(Roberts). All of whom come from lives very common during Chaucer s time period
as well as the setting that the story took place in. So to fully understand The
Canterbury Tales, one must explore the historical background of where and when
Geoffrey Chaucer lived. The setting of The Canterbury Tales takes place in england,
where a group of pilgrims were travelling to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

While the other woman were honest and rightfully portraying their lifestyles, the
nun is the exact opposite. The nun starts out appearing honest, yet a reader can tell
very early on what Chaucer is meaning about her as he describes her. It is a great
glimpse into the falsehoods of people; something we still have today. And Frenssh
she spak ful faire and fetisly, After the scole of Stratford atte Bowe, For Frenssh of

Also during the time was the very beginnings of people doubting catholic practice, or
at least questioning them to most. Chaucer sees this and almost devots a character to
him, The Miller. Throughout the story he is written as being a drunk, as well as
ridiculing religious figures, not to mention the occasional blasphemous joke.
4. Roman Fever By Edith Wharton Essay
Roman Fever written by Edith Wharton, is a short story set in the 1920 s about two
women, Alida Slade and Grace Ansley, who have been recently reunited after several
years while being on vacation in Rome. When meeting one another, the two begin a
conversation with reminiscing their golden days . As the story progresses the once
seemed as a healthy friendship slowly turns into a friendship that has been disturbed
by jealousyand hatred. With each event being exposed in the plot the seemingly close
friendship, turns into a relationship that becomes infected with jealousy and hatred.
Edith Wharton exposes the true feelings that both women have for one another and
hidden secrets of their past by creating a contrast between the two characters... Show

By the author giving a descriptive description of these two characters personalities
and looks, Edith creates a foundation of the jealousy and resentment. Grace Ansley is
portrayed as a quiet and middle aged woman, but turns out to be a cunning and
deceitful person towards the end. She has a daughter named Barbara, who is the
complete opposite of her mother. Barbara Ansley is described as an open minded,
adventurous, and an individual with a lively spirit. The other daughter that is
presented is Jenny Slade. She is the daughter of the second main character, Alida
Slade. Jenny is a more quiet type and staying in the shadow kind of person. The
other main character, Alida Slade is very genuine and charming, however, when one
gets further into the story Mrs. Slade starts exposing her other personality of
becoming a person full of envy and jealousy. (Wharton 86 88) By focusing more so
on the characters from the very beginning rather than the location or their
surroundings the narrator places more emphasis on the conflict that has been
building up between the two for years and creates the suspense in a readers mind of
how the conflict will either be solved or blown up, in the end, making the reader

5. The Stuffed Winnie The Pooh Bear Analysis
Growing up, I owned a stuffed Winnie the Pooh bear. I loved the show, and loved
Pooh even more. On Sundays, I would dress my Pooh bear in my sister and I s doll
clothes and bring it with me to church. One Sunday, an older kid at Sunday School
mocked my Winnie the Pooh bear, because Pooh is a boy but I made mine wear a
dress. At the young age of 5, I didn t understand why Pooh couldn t be a girl to me,
even though the character from the television show was a boy. I left Sunday
School that day sad and confused. I always thought of Pooh as a girl, and it crushed
me to find out different. I decided I would change my favorite character to a girl
character, get a new stuffed animal, and let her wear dresses to church to avoid
getting mocked. However,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If this continues, girls self confidences will continue spiraling downward. Young
girls ambitions will be diminished, and will force themselves into being housewives

influential changes in America the last century, why let it all stop? As Katha Pollitt
said, our preschoolers don t have time. My funny, clever, bold, adventurous

could try and monitor their own television usage, or that parents could monitor it
more for them. However, whether it be a minute or an hour, turning on the

That is why I suggest a change in entertainment. It s almost 2016, television and

6. Morbid Taste For Bones
What do A Morbid Taste for Bones and The Man in the Passage have in common?
They are both mysteries. Although both differ considerably in length, plot
complexity, and setting, both accompany a sacerdotal sleuth as he solves a
felonious offense. Despite their label, many doubt if these two mysteries are
gripping enough to entrance the reader into reading the story to the end. What
makes a mystery novel worth reading? Because the word worth is an analogous
term, I will state my meaning to avoid confusion. When I asked what makes a story
worth reading, I asked whether the reader considers it fascinating enough to continue
to voluntarily read the book for the sole purpose of enjoyment. There are many ways
that a mystery story can be worth... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By disdaining an omniscient viewpoint, not only does the mystery writer abstain
from giving too much information to the reader too early on, but also allows the
conflict to persist however long the author desires until the climax and resolution
at the end of the book. If the mystery writer decided to either use an omniscient
viewpoint or change viewpoints often, it would become increasingly hard for him
to cloak a plausible plot, since doing so would almost inevitably eliminate possible
suspects, pointlessly disrupt the detective s search, and allow the reader to
discover information which frankly the detective would probably never discover
for himself. Thus, the single perspective of the detective is the only one needed. In
A Morbid Taste for Bones, the reader only learns what Brother Cadfael himself
learns, and often even less, since sometimes some of Cadfael s major thoughts or
actions are omitted until the resolution of the book in an effort to retain the greatest
amount of suspense and ignorance possible for as long as possible. The Man in the
Passage s point of view is very similar, since the reader is only able to experience
what Father Brown experiences. Furthermore, although Father Brown hints multiple
times that he could

Leaders, Achievers, Courage are only a few words that describe Frederick
Douglass, Sojourner Truth, and Abraham Lincoln and what they achieved.
Frederick Douglass was a very courageous man and leader because he stood up for
what was right and he escaped slavery, For Example in the text it says The more I
read , the more I was led to abhor and detest my enslavers . What that sentence
means is that he was reading a book about a slave and his master and the more he
read the more he wanted to enslave all slaves. Sojourner Truth was a courageous
leader. She stood up for what she thought was right and for her that was women
rights and ending slavery. In fact, in the text is says Then that little man in black
there, he says women can t have as much right as men, cause christ wasn t a women!
Where did your Christ come from? Where did your Christ come from? From God
and a women! Man had nothing to do with him. ANother sentence was Then they talk

She would always stand up for what was right. Abraham Lincolnwas a Achiever and a
Courageous leader. He was the man that stopped slavery. It s Important to realize,
that in the text it said My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still, My
father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will, The ship is anchor d safe and

9. Presidential Election Of The United States
After almost two years on the campaign trail, the United States of America has
finally elected its new president, Donald Trump. No that is not a typo, this is real
life. It was a hard fought battle between Hillary Clinton and the Donald which
ultimately lead to one of the most shocking upsets in recent American politics. Being
that the odds were heavily stacked against Trump as poll after poll predicted Clinton
be the victor, it was to the astonishment of many that he reigned victorious during this
2016 presidential electioncycle. Be it the will of the country (or in this case electoral
college ) this poisonous cheeto will now be the 45th president of the United States. So
how did this happen, what was it about Trump that pushed voter behavior in his favor
in many key battleground states? Trumps victory lies in the hands of the silent
majority who at this point were dying for change and saw it within the republican
nominee. The biggest contributing factor to Trump s win on November 8 was
retrospective votingwhich a lot of voters clearly engaged in this election cycle. When
making the decision of who to vote for during an election, voters often tend to start
looking within at their own situation before throwing their support at a candidate.
Questioning whether ones is better off now than they were before the previous
election is known as retrospective voting. This concept is the idea that voters take
into consideration factors such as the performance a political party ,

17. Of What Remains By Alicia Jurman Summary
Of What Remains
From the ashes of hate, a story of acceptance was born. Alicia Jurman was nine
years old when the Russians invaded her town of Buczacz, Poland. The German
Nazis followed almost immediately after. As a young Jewish girl, Alicia feared for
her life on a daily basis. Alicia survived the German invasion and Holocaust,
however, she lost everything that she previously needed to survive. Alicia Jurman
wrote Alicia in 1982 in memory of the children of the ghettos who were cruelly
murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators. The novel is the manifestation of her
concession that what she lost to the war will never come back. Alicia tells the
courageous story of a girl looking for herself and love during the mass extinction of
humanity and identity.
The Russians invaded Buczacz on September 17, 1939. The Germans invaded in

Ecotourism in South American Countries
Synopsis:
We are living in a world that tends to put developed nations against indigenous
peoples. Foreign developers seeking cheap labor and natural resources on untouched
lands are exploiting cultures that have survived for centuries on their own.
South America is a continent that possesses rich indigenous culture that is still
relatively untouched by outsiders. Americans have the ability to preserve that
heritage through organized efforts to encourage certain types of visitors to
indigenous areas to create an economy that will take the place of potential mining,
logging, and ranching enterprises. That economy is ecotourism.

To act as a means of improving the status of these poor countries, the idea of
Ecotourism was developed. Though the idea of Ecotourism was one with good
intentions, the local people in the countries where Ecotourism has been in effect are
not gaining much at all.
History of Ecotourism:
The idea that led to Ecotourism emerged in the late sixties when people like Oswaldo
MuГ±oz, now president of the Ecuadorian Ecotourism Association, started guiding
tourists around their countries to view natural wonders. Many companies began to
set up lodging near parks and reserves and even began to develop tours of those
areas. The vision of showing off exotic plants, animals and the overall natural beauty
of countries like Ecuador also attracted them. Yet early on, this did little to help the
local economies. It actually contributed to other problems: In Ecuador, half of the
country s rain forest disappeared, and environmental groups and other organizations
promoting ecotourism flocked to places where endangered species, including many
indigenous populations, lived. But with the growing environmental awareness of

Have you ever learned things the hard way? I sure have and I m sure you have too.
You would think that we would all learn that lesson the first time we experience it,

Comparable to the time I was babysitting for my parents, they went to Door County

garage. Although there was a ball in the corner of the yard and I didn t wait to get
it so I told Ben Go pick up the ball please. With the typical response from younger
brothers not wanting to do what their older brothers say he responds You go get it.
Then, still not wanting to get it, I use the I m in charge card and tell him in a little

23. A Report On Phosphorous Monoxide Radical
1.Introduction
Phosphorous monoxide radical is a diatomic molecule with molecular weight of
46.9732. It exists in cationic and anionic states. It is present in a significant quantity
in earth crust. It is an integral component of Cell protoplast and most importantly it
is present in DNA. The importance of phosphorous in Biochemical processes can be
easily determined from its preparations from animal and vegetable materials. 1 4
Hennig Brand, for the first time isolated phosphorus in its elemental state in 1669 by
urine distillation. 1 4 The isolated phosphorous glowed brightly in the dark and
ignited on exposure to air. The various uses of phosphorus and its compounds in
pharmaceuticals, agricultural, biotechnology industry have lead to ... Show more

They also exposed P2O5 at 50 В°C to UV radiation and only observed emission in
the visible region of the spectrum. They finally concluded that the visible emission
from oxidising phosphorus was because of the excitation of the pentoxide by UV
radiation emitted as a result of the oxidation.
Petrikaln falsified the theory put forwarded by EmelГЁus and Purcell and
demonstrated that P2O5 did not absorb in the UV region in its highly purified form.
The visible emission observed by EmelГЁus and Purcell was because of sample
impurity.8,9,10 He then demonstrated the excitement of highly purified P2O5 vapour
using discharges caused by external or internal electrodes, in that it was observed that
the band in the region 3200 3400Г… was absent, only bands relating the oxygen
emission were observed.9,10 When Petrikaln excited P2O3 in a Geissler tube, two
series of bands were emitted in the UV region, one above 31000 Г… , the other from
2360 to 2640 Г… .10The line positions of the were calculated with an accuracy of
0.1 Г… and analysed, which lead to К‹0= 1378 and 1221 cm 1 for the vibrational
frequencies of the excited and ground electronic state species respectively. He
designated the bands to the P2O3 molecule.10

Abstract Mobile marketing can be made more personalized through Mobile
Personalized Marketing (MPM). Customers now expect content to be more
personalized and relevant, and marketing technology has risen to meet the challenges.
Due to the ubiquity, interactivity and localization of mobile devices, the customer
contextual information ((i.e) the environment where a customer is located) identifies
the needs of customer and offer product services by understanding the customer s
preferences. Existing work focused on contexts of mobile users and their activities for
better predicting customer preferences. In existing, only limited numbers of
dimensions are considered to predict the user preferences. It cannot precisely predict
about people s daily activities, which could be extremely difficult due to the inherent
randomness of human behavior. The proposed work focuses on the number of
dimension combination to be increased for each event with respect to context and
action rule of a user. User clustering is constructed and similarities between the users
are also evaluated for prediction of mobile behaviors with considerations of user
relation. Personalized Marketing
25. Blindness Essay
More than one million Americans suffer from blindness, a severe vision
impairment (Marcovitz 6). Blindness can be caused from an accident or a disease
(10). One victim of blindness, Stevie Wonder, has overcome it by making music
and performing. His positive outlook on life helps him achieve many things (79).
Being blind means a person is sightless or is unable to distinguish dark colors from
light colors, but they can still overcome it (Dahl). Eye diseases, like glaucoma and
cataracts, can be causes of blindness. Symptoms of glaucoma may include headaches,
pain in the eyes, or blurry vision (Marcovitz... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In future technology, surgeries, such as implant surgery and transplantation of
retinal tissue may help blind people (Marcovitz 73, 76). In 1831 Perkins School for
the Blind was the first school to help blind people read, communicate, and speak.
Later, Louis Braille discovered Braille, a code using dots and dashes for the
alphabet (34). When rubbing fingers across it, the markings indicate certain
numbers or letters (33). Guide dogs can also aid the blind when walking around so
they know where to go (45). Groups such as the American Foundation for the Blind
and National Federation of the Blind help provide assistance and new laws for
blind people and their families (41). Preventing eye disease and blindness is
important. Wearing protective eyewear, and practicing healthy habits like
exercising and eating well (Marcovitz 68) can prevent blindness. Getting regular
eye exams (Worth) can also help detect it earlier as well (Dahl). There are many
people worldwide and in America who are blind. About fifty million people around
the world (Dahl) and over one million Americans (Marcovitz 6) are totally blind
(Dahl). Therefore, it is essential to take steps to prevent blindness. Stevie Wonder,
one of the many affected by blindness, was born on May 13, 1950 in Saginaw,
Michigan where his love for music began. Wonder was born prematurely and has
been blind since infancy because the blood vessels in his eyes were not fully
developed (Marcovitz 6) but, he believes

Every hero has a character, whether it is being a rich businessman who protects his
city from evil villains or rather a less successful teenager who works as a pizza boy
and has special powers that resembles a spider! The key points that make up a
character is theri characteristics. Back in the Anglo Saxon period, writer would
write stories that were about heros. These stories were called epic poes. In these
poems, there was always a story about a hero, known as the epic hero, who would go
on quests to save their mankind. These heros would have different characteristics that
helped identify their character. The very famous Anglo Saxon Beowulfis the perfect
example of characteristics.
One characteristic that the epic hero in the poem

Chronic diseases such as Type 2 Diabetes are increasingly becoming more common
in New Zealand. The NZ health system consists of health professionals interacting
together in order to improve the health outcomes for diabetics. This essay will
examine the roles of both general practitioners and primary care nurses. This includes
the services provided for Type 2 Diabetes and the organisations in the NZ health
system that these professionals work for. The last part will examine how the
differing perspectives of each profession, creates challenges for the way Type 2
Diabetes service is delivered by the NZ health system.

As compared to other physicians, GPs deliver services directly to the public (3).
Therefore, they are well connected with their diabetic patients and their family. Since
Type 2 Diabetes is incurable, GPs provide cure in terms of medicine (3). However, a
GPs role typically involves them checking on the patient intermittently in offices,
operating rooms or clinic rounds in order to administer cure, as compared to PC
nurses who provide care for a duration (3).
Alternatively, a PC nurse within the NZ community has many roles regarding the
provision of Type 2 Diabetes, often overlapping those of a GP. A PC nurse
emphasizes on the continuity of care and works in a primary health care setting
(17). In NZ, registered PC nurses care for and support patients in a range of
settings, including clinics, residential care facilities or the patient s home (3).
Nurses are by far the largest health workforce group, so play an essential role in
diabetes care and education, such as health promotion (6). Nurses in NZ run the
wards in hospitals and tend to be regularly in contact with the patients (3). In relation
to Type 2 Diabetes, PC nurses monitor and assess the patient as well as record any
important changes (3). This also involves coordinating and carrying out nursing care
to improve the patient s health (3). In contrast with GPs who mainly focus on
diagnosing and treating the patient, a PC nurses role involves
28. Saadia Gaon s Changing Interpretation
Ever since I was young I was always drawn to the book of genesis curious about the
handy work of God how he formed everything together. Now grown I wanted to seek
and see the original people who wrote down the Old Testament and in doing that
having to see and study their religion and understand their interpretation of the
creation account. But through my research I found through the ages things had
change interpretation shifted, and new ideas had formed through the rise of rabbinic
Judaism. To the point today there are multiple ideas that float about out in the main
stream about the creation and depending on the person and their belief in what the
scripture says you might get a different interpretation. So that is what I had set out to

What matters in Judaism are the concepts shared by all these stories: that the world
was created by God, that He planned it carefully and designed it to be hospitable to
man. To give just an example: the six days of creation culminating in the Sabbath
on the seventh day symbolize how God guided the development of the world stage
by stage according to a well thought out plan. The process is described as taking
place over a period of seven days because seven was regarded in the ancient world
as the number of perfection and seven days were regarded as the ideal length of a
process. The unit of seven days is more a statement about the perfection of the
process than a chronological statistic. Another example would be the garden it was
a special place of beauty in the Near East. Amid the dry plains and hills, it was the
closest thing to creation s perfection. People living in that part of the world could
understand the perfection of God s creation before original sin in terms of a
garden. You also have the symbolism that goes with the tree and the snake later in
genesis which were for the tree had a special significance in many Near Easter
creation stories. In some cases, the gods ate the fruit of a special tree to keep from
dying. In Genesis, there were two trees: the tree of life, and near it, the tree of
knowledge of good and evil

30. Love And Vengeance
Portrayal of Love Vengeance in Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni s
The Palace of Illusions
Is the desire for vengeance stronger than the longing to be loved?
Love and vengeance are two emotions that have an astounding level of control on us.
However which is a stronger driving force remains questionable. Love without fear
and spite is the most powerful human emotion; and still, it can be easy to slip back
into an old way, a jealous rage, a resistance or belief that one isn t worthy. Though it
s a hard feeling to pinpoint, it s presence can be felt in everyone s life. It is a practice
like most of one s life lessons, and it can be abundant if one sticks with it and expels
the darkness from their heart and mind. Rightly said by Divakaruni ... Show more

She understood that perhaps they loved her but as a man they loved the notion of
honour, of loyalty towards each other and reputation more than her suffering. Then
she decides that she will remember the lesson taught to her and will use it to take
revenge, no matter what its price. The questions Draupadi raises, the things she resists
and the emotions which drive her strengths in her discourse all leave us, inquisitively,
questioning our reception and reading of the Mahabharata. The distinctness of
Draupadi s narrative stands with the fact that Draupadi s feministic retelling, which
is somewhat a modern rendering fits into the plot of Mahabharata. Draupadi s story
is more close to humanised rendering, her anger, resentment, and suppressed desire
make her one like us. She develops a concern for the role of women which is
distinctly modern and contemporary.
The Palace of Illusions is a story of vengeance. Panchaali s father vowed to avenge
himself upon the man who stole half his kingdom, and Panchaali herself later seeks
her revenge for the action that shamed her and took away everything she and her
husbands had. Vengeance and pride coil together within Panchaali, giving her no rest.
But the big question is would vengeance really give her
31. Given To Fly Eddie Vedder Meaning
In 1991 when Eddie Vedder wrote and performed his album Ten, he knew he was
competing with the big time grunge band; Nirvana. Once it hit the stage it was clear
there was no competition. Eddie s deep, emotional messages throughout this album,
his shaky, raspy voice that transfers from screaming lyrics to soft, poetic like
speaking. All tied together with his hard to hate persona that can be heard throughout
this album and every album made by Eddie Vedder.
In the song Given To Fly Eddie says He got up out of there, ran for hundreds of
miles / He made it to the ocean, had a smoke in a tree / The wind rose up, set him
down on his knee. In this verse Eddie is describing his life and how he needs to get
away from it all and just have a peaceful break, alone. Vedder likes to use his life in
third person in most of his songs to make his message more distant, and almost
more easily relatable. The song Given To Fly is actually a second or a reference to
the song Going to California By Led Zeppelin and how just leaving might help out
more than anything. Throughout the album there are several different songs with
an abundance of different meanings. The song, Alive, has one of the deepest
messages that is tied to his life personally. The song is about a boy that finds out
that who he thought was his father, is actually his stepfather and his real father is
dead. Eddie said the song is a work of fiction based on reality (SK) . When Vedder
was born his mom had left his father and
32. The, 12 Angry Men, And Nasa s Challenger Disaster
Speak your mind even if your voice shakes , a quote made famous by Maggie
Kuhn, is the foundation of how I conduct my life. While the fundamentals of being
an open minded, educated, and well rounded individual involve considering the
opinions of others and evaluating both sides of the argument, too often people
become complacent and lose the ability to think for themselves. The common term
that refers to this type of herd mentality is sheeple . The play, 12 Angry Men, and
NASA s Challenger disaster are two prime examples of the downfalls of groupthink.
Below, I will discuss both the helpful and harmful aspects of groupthink surrounding
both 12 Angry Men, and the Challenger disaster, as well as the effects of groupthink
on today s voting young adults.
In the play, 12 Angry Men, the vote was 11 1 in favor of a guilty verdictin the case
being tried. The one juror stood his ground, explained his theory as to why a guilty
verdict could not be delivered, and was unwavering in his stance. The jurors went
around the table twice, and ended with everyone siding with the original juror. As
the deliberations played out and jurors were questioned, some jurors were not able to
justify their guilty verdict, merely stating It just is . This statement shows the effect
of the groupthink mentality, especially since one juror was considerably vocal and
angered by the time being spent on deliberations. The logical discussions the other
jurors had with one another displayed a positive aspect
33. A Brief Note On Conflict Analysis Using Ssam
Conflict Analysis using SSAM
After the 10 simulations for each intersection were completed in VISSIM, their
respective outputs were imported in SSAM. The analysis in SSAM resulted in
possible conflicts generated at each intersection. As mentioned earlier, the results
from the SSAM analysis were filtered to remove any uncertainties, including possible
conflicts of pedestrians. The filters used are explained in Table 3 (Section 2.5.3).
Per Saleem (2012), the principal reason for removing the pedestrian conflicts is that
in his study only vehicle to vehicle crashes are modeled. In the same way, this study
only focuses on evaluating safety of signalized intersections with the presence of
automated vehicles without including pedestrians due to ... Show more content on

The CMF was calculated for each crash prediction model applied at both scenarios:
50%AV and 100%AV. Using the method studied by Shahdah, Saccomanno, Persaud
(2014) to predict the CMF based on simulated conflicts, the total predicted crashes
after the countermeasure was applied (crashes at 100% AV and crashes at 50%AV)
were divided by the total predicted crashes before the countermeasure was applied
(crashes at 0%AV). This provided crash modification factors for the two AV
penetration levels investigated in this study.
Finally, to have a better perspective with regards to simulated conflicts and crashes,
an average was calculated for each element used to calculate the CMFs for the four
prediction models (crashes at 0%AV, crashes at 100%AV, crashes at 50%AV). With
these new values, new CMFs were calculated for 100%AV and 50%AV with respect
to the untreated site scenario of 0%AV.
3.5Evaluation of Safety Treatments for Signalized Intersections
After analyzing the safety of the 78 signalized intersections when introducing
automated vehicles, this part of the research explored and evaluated the safety effects
on crashes when hypothetical treatments were applied to selected intersections.
The first safety treatment consisted of changing left turn operation from permissive
to permissive protected. Permissive left turns can raise safety concerns since drivers
take a higher risk in crossing the
34. Nucleophilic Substitution Reaction Lab Report
In this experiment, a nucleophilic substitution was performed, where a chloride
nucleophile substituted a tertiary hydroxyl group on 2 methyl 2 butanol. In a
nucleophilic substitution reaction, an electron rich nucleophile attacks a positively or
partially positively charged electrophile, and replaces a leaving group. In this
reaction, chloride ions are the nucleophile, the tertiary carbon in 2 methyl 2 butanol is
the electrophile, and water is the leaving group.
In the mechanism for this reaction, the oxygen from the hydroxyl group of the 2
methyl 2 butanol attacks the hydrogen of the HCl, causing heterolytic cleavage of
the HCl, resulting in a chloride ion, and in the oxygen bonding to an extra hydrogen,
and becoming positively charged. This changes the leaving group from a hydroxyl to
a water, which is a far more stable leaving group. The leaving group leaves the
hydrocarbon chain through heterolytic cleavage, creating a water molecule, ... Show

While a technique like gas chromatography could have been used, for this experiment,
halide tests and IR spectroscopy were used to identify the product. Halide tests are an
old fashioned test that can be used to confirm the identity and connectivity of the
functional group using various substitution reactions. In this experiment, NaI and
AgNO3 were used, which produce a precipitate if a chloride functional group is
present. The NaI reaction produces a yellow precipitate, whereas the AgNO3 reaction
produces a white precipitate. Both reactions involved the chloride group being
substituted by a different nucleophile, in this case, iodide or nitrate. NaI supports an
SN2 reaction, which favors primary carbons, whereas AgNO3 undergoes an SN1
reaction, which favors tertiary carbons. Hence, depending on which one of these
precipitates formed at a faster rate, one could determine if the carbocation was
primary or
35. Anselm, The Archbishop Of Canterbury
Anselm, the Archbishop of Canterbury, was the first person to present an ontological
argument for the existence of God. He actually proposes two different ontological
arguments at different points in the Prosologium.
His first Ontological Argument for God s Existence starts by defining God based on
Christian belief as a being than which nothing greater can be conceived. It is on the
foundation of this definition that he builds his argument.
Anselm s first point is that anyone who hears about God, this being than which
nothing greater can be conceived, will be able to understand what he is hearing and
grasp that definition of God. He then goes on to say that once a person has been told
and has understood that definition, then they have ... Show more content on

The first critic is a monk named Gaunilo of Marmoutier, who lived at the same time
as Anselm. His critique of Anselm s first Ontological Argument for God s Existenceis
that using the same argument one could prove the existence of things that do not
actually exist.
Gaunilo supports his objection by presenting Anselm s argument except with an
island in the place of God as the thing than which none greater can be conceived. The
argument seems to prove conclusively that there is an island than which none greater
can be conceived, but since there is not objectively a maximally great island, the
argument form is seemingly discredited.
Himma argues, however, that Gaunilo s objection points out a limit to Anselm s
argument but does not actually disprove it. The properties of an island that make it
great are not ones that have a conceptual maximum. Himma points out that it is this
lack of properties with conceptual maximums that makes the island argument fail, not
the argument form itself. On the other hand, the properties of Anselm s Christian
God that make that God great do have a conceptual maximum, properties such as
perfect knowledge and perfect power. One cannot conceptually have greater
knowledge than knowing all and only true propositions, or greater power than being
able to do everything that is possible to do.
Therefore, Himma points out, the example of the greatest island simply shows that

These beliefs are the closest to our modern vampire.People have always and will

also wrote a book at that time called American Vampires in which she documented
vampire images in the media and described the effects on people who claimed to
be vampires. She sent out a questionnaire, and out of 574 respondents, 27 percent
admitted to a belief in vampires (Ramsland 65). Certain individuals would file their
teeth into a razor sharp weapon, sleep in coffins, avoid the sun, and dress entirely
in black. Some people would even form small groups to exchange blood in secret.
Sadly enough, people would go too far to become their fictitious character. Known
as Lust Murders, people would kill in order to get a sexual pleasure as a vampire
would. In 1827, a moody 24 year old vine dresser named Leger killed a 12 year old
girl in the woods. He admitted that he drank her blood, mutilated her genitals, tore
out and ate a part of her heart, and then buried her remains. When he was
questioned about his horrific event, he talked with no emotion or remorse. Two
other Lust Murders comprise of a man cutting his arm for his wife to suck on
before sex because it would arouse his wife so strongly. The second is a man
dissected his victims and got so caught up in the gore that he trembled with the desire
to wallow in it and consume it (Ramsland 105). Many crimes were

centuries before this massacre, this city had witnessed one of the most significant

The impact of Network on the college student.
With the advent of the era of information, network in the lives of college students
plays a very important role, the network brings us a lot of convenienceпјЊHowever,
its negative effects become more and more cause our attention. To further investigate
the influence of network for college students, I adopt the method of the questionnaire
survey and online search. (my opinion)
According to a survey (Basic situation investigation), some students can effectively
control the Internet time and the main purpose is to collect learning materials online.
There is a question (the question three is: What is the purpose of you access the
Internet? A: Check study material B: chat with friend, C: watch the news D: listen to
music or watch movies, D: others ) Forty five percent of the students chose to listen
to music and watching moviesпјЊThirty four percent of students chose to chat
onlineпјЊWhile only 15% of the students chose to find information related to the
learning and watching the news, the remaining 6% of the students chose the other.
There is no denying that, network openness and convenience, the diversity of content

Managing organisational change at Foxconn s factories in contemporary China
1. Introduction
Since China s engagement to the global economy in the early 1980s, it has become
the global manufacturing centre given its abundant supply of low cost labours.
International corporations have long taken advantages of this to have their goods
produced or assembled in China, and they have been able to squeeze their costs and
transform them into a lower product price for their potential customers. However, as
the economic development and the workers perceptions toward lives have changed
dramatically, these firms have faced severe issues with their corporate policies.
The raise of employee salary has become a trend in China and has given ... Show

External forces are usually the forces which lead to timely organisational changes
(Mullins, 2006).
Many internal forces of change come from the aging process according to Mullins
(2006). For example, when the employees or company equipments do not work
effectively or properly anymore due to their seniority, there may be a need for a total
replacement. These changes could however be properly handled by advanced
planning.
PEST analysis, which refers to political, economic, social, and technological factors,
is a useful tool for an organisation to capture external changes and its strength and
weakness for strategic management (Henry, 2008). This analysis plays an important
role as company performance depends on how well the company handles the
opportunities and obstacles presented by external change.
From the PEST analysis conducted in Appendix 1, it is noticed that Foxconn, the
studied foreign owned manufacturers in China, is now reaching a turning point
where adequate adaption to external changes is needed. It is clear the company is
losing its competitive advantage of its heavy use of low cost labour and is running
high on its operating costs.
As a result, it needs to find a way to cut off its operating costs while at the same time
sustain and recruit sufficient workers. In order to maintain its low cost on
manufacturing, Foxconn may also need to consider about relocating both
domestically and internationally or investing on automation.

How far do you agree that the consolidation of fascist power in Italy in the years
1922 1929 was mainly due to the use of force and intimidation?
Mussolini consolidation of fascist power in Italy in the years 1922 1929 could have
been mainly due to the use of force and intimidation. However this was not a
straightforward process, since fascism was a new thing. In the years 1922 to January
1925 marked the transition from the liberal parliamentary system to the fascist state.
Like many political transitions, it was an untidy and complicated process. Although
from the start Mussolini s intentions were quite difficult to establish, however it could
be that Mussolini wanted to set up from the beginning a totalitarian one party state.

44. Commercial Whaling
Make the case for the resumption of commercial whaling as an international policy.
Commercial whaling has an abundant amount of utilizations. The main utilizations
include food use, commercial use (whale watching), animal feed and fertilizer use,
cosmetic use, and pharmaceutical use. While not popular in most countries,
countries like Alaska, Iceland, Norway, and Japan have whale meat on their menus.
There are also other indigenous people and people in Inuit tribes who depend on
whale meat as their main source of food. Within the pharmaceutical field, Russia,
Norway, and Japan are counties that take on studies for the medical uses of whale.
Some of these uses are whale oil (omega 3s acid) and whale cartilage (chondroitin 4
sulfate and proteoglycan).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my opinion, every species, including humans, is a part of the food chain.
Whether or not humans are at the top of the food chain isn t what is important
when it comes to the relationship between us and whales. We have the technology
and intelligence to kill whales and use them at important resources, including food,
wax (for candles and cosmetics), and pharmaceuticals. We should be taking every
advantage we get to further develop our knowledge of whale oil, meat, and
cartilage. I believe that we should use every opportunity to better our lives, but that
does not include kill whales recreationally. There is no excuse for that, just like
there is no excuse for kills of dogs, zebras, or pandas. Unless it is for survival, no one
should be killing an animal for fun. That saying, there is a point when we will have
to stop commercial whaling. The whale population has been an interesting trend to
research. Whale population has been very high and very low in the past couple
centuries. My opinion is that we should have a set number of whales that we can
take out of the ocean each year. If that number starts to cause a decline in the
population, it should be set lower. If the population becomes endangered, I believe
that whaling should stop immediately. I could imagine having to describe to the next
generation what a whale looks like because there aren t any to show

Explain how understanding specific English language learners needs guided the
choice of instructional strategies to support the content and language learning.
It is essential to understand English language learners needs because ELL students
face the combined challenge of learning all the academic content as other students,
while also learning the language of instruction. With the rapid growth in the size of
the ELL student population in the U.S., teachers who are effective recognizes ELL
students unique academic needs, unique background experience, culture, language,

Discuss implications for future teaching: What changes would you make to your
instruction if you were to teach this lesson again? Incorporate your understandings of
the Sheltered English Instruction principles into your analysis and reflection.
Prior taking this RETELL class I thought differentiating meant dummying down work.
I struggled with the concept of differentiating strategies because I thought it help
students to be all they can be. Taking the class have given a clear understanding the
meaning and the usage of differentiating teaching, matter of fact, some the strategies I
use in class are similar to some of the strategies taught in the RETELL class. I realized
that Differentiated instruction is about using teaching strategies that connect with
individual student s learning strategies. The ultimate goal is to provide a learning
environment that will maximize the potential for student success. The important
thing to remember is to hold on to the effective teaching strategies that lead students
to positive learning outcomes and to make adjustments when necessary. It s about
being flexible and open to change. It s also about taking risks and trying teaching and
learning strategies that you would have otherwise ignored. It s about managing
instructional time in a way that meets the standards and also provides motivating,
challenging, and meaningful experiences for school age

Medical malpractice in Pakistan
Medical malpractice is defined as professional negligence by act or omission by a
health care provider in which care provided deviates from accepted standards of
practice in the medical community and causes injury or death to the patient, with
most cases involving medical error (Medical Malpractice).
Although, doctors are solely held responsible for any medical malpractice in Pakistan
s hospitals, but other factors such as the role of the hospital administration towards
that medical error, the pharmaceutical companies and ignorance of the patient himself

Although private hospitals have come to the rescue but most of the Pakistani
population cannot afford it as they live below the poverty line. The charges of
private hospitals are very high so people prefer to go to public or civil hospitals
where they are forced to stand in long lines and facilities are also not up to
international standards. In public hospitals there is a shortage of doctors, so the
ratio of patient to doctor is very high and more often than not the doctors are unable
to attend to these patients. There are not enough nurses to see such a large number
of patients. Even if there are nurses they are not fully trained and often cause mixing
error. Mixing error takes place when the medical staff such as nurses mixes the
medication of one patient with the other. This may lead to serious problems and can
even lead to death.
Other than this there is no proper documentation in Pakistan s hospitals.
Documentation is essential regarding each and every detail e.g. the number of visits
made to the doctor and the dates, the various reports of patients. The absence of any
such documentation leads to many errors as a proper follow up is mandatory and if
the hospital would not keep record of all this then effective treatment cannot take
place. If the patient has been prescribed a certain course of medicine and there is no
previous record of that. This can lead the patient to repeat the course which might
have serious side effects. So doctors
47. Mother To Son Rhetorical Devices
Mother to Son , by Langston Hughes is based on the view of hope and inspiration
to continue moving forward in life, regardless of difficulties, and no matter how
hard life may be. The speaker in this poem is a mother who gives advice to her son.
Since the mother has overcame challenges in life, she encourages her son to be
fearless, face challenges and succeed in life. He includes rhetorical devices such as,
figurative language, imagery, symbolism, and sound devices to make the points of
being fearless, to face challenges, and succeed in life. The poet begins the poem by
motivating and inspiring her son to be fearless using an extended metaphor. He
begins comparing the mothers life and a crystal stair. The mother begins saying,
Well, son, I ll tell you: / Life for me ain t been no crystal stair, compares an easy and
pleasant journey through life to her journey of life that has not been easy and
pleasant. The use of extended metaphor comparing the mother s life to a staircase
continues throughout the poem, repeating the line, Life for me ain t been no crystal
stair. Furthermore, life has never been easy or free of problems and it has never been
smooth sailing. The tacks, splinters, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

staircase, It had tacks in it, And splinters, And boards torn up, And places with no
carpet on the floor, Bare. These lines bring to mind an image of houses where poor
African Americans lived. The tacks symbolize painful events, the splinters
symbolize wounds, and the torn boards symbolize changes in the mother s life. In

48. The Death Of A Pregnant Woman
When it comes to executing crimes against a pregnant woman, many believe that
there should be proof beyond a reasonable doubt that a member of the Homo
sapiens, existed and was carried in the womb before and at the time of the attack.
They also believe that there should be proof that the defendant acted with the
criminal malice toward the victim of violence, which pertain to at least one of the
federal laws in regards to the different crimes of violence. As well as, verify that the
actions carried by the criminal conduct caused the death of the child in utero. Even
the possibility or even a strong likelihood that the criminal actions caused the death to
the child in utero would meet to the law requirements as proof that it was the cause
of the child s death (The Natural Rights to Life Committee, 2004).
Before the Public Law 108 212 was ever put in place, the unborn child was not
recognized as a separate victim when involved in violent acts of crime. As stated
before, for years now, many unjust cases in the United States have been brought
forth in the fight for the rights of an unborn child to be recognized as a loss of human
life. In turn this has led to many cases being unjustified, as many people have put
forth the action to fight for the rights of the unborn child to be recognized as a loss
of human life. In 1989, the Weber versus Roe reproductive health services and the
other groups of pro choice supporters declared that, the life of each human being

49. Why I Was A Lawyer
As a daughter of hispanic parents, growing up in the U.S. you have to face many
unfair situations. My father decided that my family and I would have a better
future here. He said that it was going to be temporarily . It has been more than
three years already and I have to admit, I was not happy at all, but now, I m really
thankful we stayed. Having the opportunity to met new people who are from
where you are from, but still are living in a different country, it s a undescriptible
feeling. Sadly, most of them have a breaking heart backstory and inevitably I make
a connection with them. I recognize I was very young when I came here, and
because of this, my reason/story to become a lawyer is very simple.
Living in Mexico, the opportunities to progress are very limited. In my culture, it s
our parents responsibility to have an established economic situation for the entire
family. This is why many people had to cross rivers, deserts, work hard, give their
children a better lie, basically, they come to make The american dream come true.
Even though it s not correct to come here illegally, frequently it s the only choice
they have left. Some people say that illegal people should try harder to get a visa or
green card, the thing is, it s not as easy as they think. My oldest sister has been on
the progress list for more than 5 years, and she still have to wait 8 more. My uncle
tried as well, he didn t have any luck, so he decided to cross the frontier. I haven t
seen him since
