3. CONVENTIONS
You know that this is an opening scene because its almost like a
establishing camera shot but with more movement involved. Also
opening scenes very rarely have dialogue, if they do then its
probably noises and a bit of laughter or crying. In this scene there is
a lot of laughter and small little sounds like that. Another convention
of film openings is background music, which this opening scene has
throughout till end, this is to just get a feel of what the movie is going
to be about, similar to a establishing shot, but in more of a movie
way.
4. SHOT TYPES
There are a lot of angle types in this opening scene for example mid
close ups, over the shoulder, aerial shots, establishing shot,
Steadicam shots, top shot, tracking shot. This film opening has a lot
of shots where more then one person is on the shot because there
are a lot of characters in this movie, and in a limited time they need
to show exactly who is in it so they have to use crowd shots. The
POV shot is in cooperated when they are on the roller coaster. There
are two shots when they are all wearing boxing gloves and having
fights.
5. EDITING
Editing is a very important job to do within media, because the
editing is what actually makes the films either has high or low ratings.
This is because the editing is done to the film will control the whole
mood of the film and the audience. For example, if the director wants
the audience to feel empathy fin a specific part in the film, the
director may tell the editor to use close up, cut in and over the
shoulder shots to ensure that the audience can see the characters
body language, facial expressions and to see from the characters
eyes.
6. MISE-EN-SCENE
Mise-en-scene elements are used quit a bit in this film opening.
Firstly the type of props used for example playing boxing gloves, kid
type swords this shows that this is a comedy movie. The cast is
another element as all the characters from this movie have been in
many pervious movies playing a comedy role; this again shows us
that this movie is a comedy. Thirdly, they use high key lighting, which
emphasizes that his movie is a comedy; it’s not like a horror with low
key lighting. Finally, location, they use locations like back yards with
swimming pools and theme parks which again connotes that this
movie is a comedy as they don’t use like graveyards and places of
worship which would be a whole different genre.
7. TYPE OF AUDIENCE
They show us the type of audience this movie is for by the
background music, if it was a calm piano piece then we could
connote to the movie being a drama, romance however this movie
has live energetic music which is mainly used for funny things, this
shows that the movie is for an audience who like a good laugh. We
also know that this movie is for around 16 years and over because
there is violence as they are fighting, also there is also a scene
where they are smoking illegal substances so this is more for older
teenagers. The whole film opening is just friends having a good time
doing kid like things like jumping in swimming pools, fighting with
boxing gloves, riding roller coasters and just messing around.
