2. Forms and conventions Relate Evidence
Introducing the main
characters
U/D When relating to my film the first
scene we are introduced to the main
character, the boy he is walking
through a large back all alone which
makes the audience question why a
young boy is all alone walking through
a park. We are then introduced to the
next two characters of which the
audience are aware that this film
would be centred around a family.
Titles U/D The titles which have been put into
my film where all in relation to my film.
The first title which we are shown is
the production company, this was
done through the correct research
about the production company.
Narrative U/D My film was not continuous as it had
flash backs, this was to allow the
audience to see what happened
previously and how it relates to what
its currently happening.
Music D The music which was used was
created through garage band, two
different audios was used, which
where both put together throughout
the film.
3. Camera angles: Social groups
One of the first main camera shot is of the family of three all sitting down together on the sofa of which is all a mid shot. The
three year old boy is placed on the mums lap whiles the older boy is sitting beside his mother and brother. This represents
social groups as you are shown how close the family of three are.
Mis-en-scene: Social groups
There are no social groups which are portrayed in my film opening, but rather the film opening is focused on a loving family. The
family are portrayed as just the mum and two sons one of which is three years old and the other is eight years old. The film
opening applies to both genders male and female as it gives you an in sight as to how it feels to be a mother and also how it
feels to be a young boy with growing emotions.
Sound: Social groups
The sound is soft a gentle however changes to faced paced as the boy runs away. This is representative of the social group as the
faced placed music takes place as the boy is running away this symbolises the fact that he is healthy young and sporty.
Editing: Social groups
After the scene with the mother talking about the family moving away the editing skips to when the mother is walking through
the corridor however we are only shown her shoes the symbolises the fact that she is maybe a middle aged woman
between the ages of 21-30.
Camera angles: Age
During the middle of the film when the eight year old boy decides to run away you are truly shown his age through a long
camera angle shot, of which covers is bag. This is a major clue that the boy is of a young age as his bag is of the cartoon ‘
cars’. When the younger son is sitting on the mums lap different ages are shown as the audience are able to see that the
mother is the responsible adult in comparison to the young boy who is placed on her lap playing with a phone. When the
woman figure of which is the mum is in the lift this also represents age however you can only see the back of her because it
is an over the shoulder shot the audience are able to see that she is an adult as she presses the lift to the correct floor.

4. Media Institution
I firstly changed my production company the first used was not suitable for my genre of film . The reason I
chose Hughes Entertainment is because during my film the majority of research which was done with
centred around all three issues of Home Alone. Home Alone is a well known successful adventure and kids
film which centres around the basis of my film opening. Hughes Entertainment would most likely be put out
in the cinema on a very successful level. The film would be shown in a Multiplex cinema of which has
between 12- 20 screens as Hughes Entertainment is regionally and worldly known.
5. Who would be the audience for your Media product?
My target audience is for a young audience between the ages of 6-11, the
images which are portrayed show that this film is a film for a younger
audience. Of which through later discovery you begin to see that the film
maybe advising the younger generation of things which are right or wrong. The
lifestyle of the film is centered around a single mother however that does not
mean that it does not appeal to to all types of families. The lifestyle of the
audience would vary, but it would most likely be towards young children who
are in primary school starting to establish feelings and emotions. The target
audience may also like films along the lines of “Cheaper by the Dozen”, “Home
Alone”, and “Are We There Yet”. It would also go along the lines of a PG film.
6. What do you feel like you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
In my Preliminary task ( continuity exercise) I learnt how to use the camera and learn how to do
different shots. I then learnt how to edit using final cut express. This help me to gain experience with
regarding extra practice with editing my film opening. My continuity exercise showed me how to use
different camera angles and where to position the camera regarding each shot. Establishing different
camera angles created many meanings to each scene. It also allowed me to play around with final cut
express exploring what different keys lead to, and also allowed me to make mistakes of which I would
have been able to correct when editing my film.
