2. One of the first most obvious
ways in which our thriller
challenges conventions of real
media products is by putting the
name of the director or producer
in the opening credits.
This is the titles from
the film ‘This is England’. Films tend to
display the names that will pioneer their
film. We felt that the actors in our film
would not be well known, being
teenagers, therefore we chose to
emphasise the name of the director. Just
like the opening titles of ‘This is England’
3. Featured in my thriller is a
360 degree shot. This is also
used in the blockbuster film
Twilight.
This camera move is used to
build tension, and show the
characters in their
surroundings. Our film creates
a very similar mood to the one
in ‘Twilight’ although with a
faster pace.
4. In this shot from eden lake, the
man is running through the
woods, surrounded by
greenery. This is shot from far
away but zoomed in.
We used a very similar shot in
our thriller during the running
sequence, however we shot
during the day. I like this shot,
because the use of zoom
heightens the action, and
creates a emphasised sense
of disorder.
5. Taken from a fight scene in the film
Bronson, this shot shows the victim
fall in front of the frame, as we look
up at the victim from a low angle.
Our film challenges the convention
of making the main fighter look
heroic. As in our film, the murderer
feels belittled and shameful for
what he’s done.
Our film shows a wide shot of
our our murderer alone in his
surroundings. This shows his
isolation and fear. His gesture
code shows how
uncomfortable he is in this
situation. Whereas in Bronson,
he appears strong and
confident in what he is doing.
6. This shot from silence of the
lambs, uses a low angle which is
almost like a POV shot,as
Hannibal Lecture beats down on a
victim with a police baton. This
shot gives the character power
and shows his aggression and
danger.
In our Thriller we used a very similar
shot, as harry beats down on his
victim. We used this shot to place the
audience in the action, and make the
film more exciting. It also makes harry
look dominant and aggressive, which
he clearly is at this moment, it is after
this that he becomes weak.
