5. COCA-COLA, The leading Soft drink company
Coca-Cola is one of the most popular drinks in the world. The color of coca cola is caramel
E150d. It is produced by The Coca-Cola Company. It is regarded as one of the largest beverages
company in the world. Introduced in 1886 in place called Pemberton's Eagle Drug and Chemical
House, Atlanta, Georgia by Dr. John S. Pemberton for medical purpose. American business tycoon
Asa Griggs Candler founded the Coca-Cola Company in January 29, 1892. He bought it from Dr.
John S. Pemberton. The name Coca-Cola is derived from two words coca and cola where ‘coca’
means kola nuts and ‘cola’ means cola leaves. It is said that the formula of Coca-Cola is not
disclosed to people to maintain business privacy. Which make coca cola hard to copy as same. It
is regarded as key for monopolistic market in beverages world. We have tasted similar kinds of
product but none is capable to give same marginal utility. Some of them are Diet coke Caffeine-
Free Coca-Cola, Diet Coke Caffeine-Free, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, Coca-Cola Cherry, Coca-Cola
Vanilla, and few special versions with lemon, lime, and coffee. Coca-Cola is third (3rd
) biggest
global brand of the world. Apple and Google are only ahead of Coca-Cola in terms global of brand
value.
In 1973, first coco-cola was imported from India for commercial purposed. Bottlers Nepal
Limited (BNL) is the only bottler of Coca-Cola products in Nepal, and has two bottling plants;
namely Kathmandu (Bottlers Nepal Limited – BNL) and Bharatpur (Bottlers Nepal (Terai)
Limited,). Bottlers Nepal in Nepal has sole right to produce Coca-Cola in Nepal. Bottlers Nepal is
said to be second largest industry in Nepal. Bharatpur, Chitwan (160 km east from capital) is the
place where Bottlers Nepal is situated. Bottlers Nepal Limited is the part of Khetan Group. This
group is led by Mr. M. G. Khetan who insure to provide qualitative goods and services. Radio,
TV, hoardings, truck backs, etc. are the common means through which Bottlers Nepal Limited
advertised throughout the country. They have done numbers of social works in different field
targeting senior people and low income group people.
HRM PRACTICE IN COCA-COLA
The Coca-Cola Company doesn’t standardized international HR practices because they
follow different HR practices in different region adopting the place where they operates.
According to the Coca-Cola Company they employee more than 700,000 (seven lakh) people in
the world. It is said to be that The Coca-Cola Company HR policies are formed in compliance with
local labor laws and culture. To boost up the performance they provide training to new staff
sometime they even replace old employee so that new employee learn the moral and cultural values
of company. To make employee motivated they offer two cups of Coca-Cola to employee per day
absolutely free. To get more from all the employee they have created the working environment
blending both Asian and western values. The working hours set by the company is 8 am to 4 pm
for all department other than technical department but for technical department time is set from 4
pm to 12 pm. The Coca-Cola Company formally endorsed the UN Guiding Principles on Business
and Human Rights, adopted by UN Human Rights Council in 2011.
6. Employee recruitment process done by Coca-Cola
Employee recruitment process is done by two process.
External recruiting:-
It start with advertisement starting in newspapers, company website, institutions etc. Then
application form, from candidates with required documents and CV is asked for and then analyzed
to know about them. After finding potentiality in applicant they select the employee. The company
offers contract paper for the employees which must be signed by both parties. The new selected
employee are provided tanning for first three month.
Internal recruiting;-
The existing employee are also given training if there is change in technology. This is done
on ability of existing worker. This increases the motivation of worker because it give chances for
them to grow. It reduces the expenses of organization and save time as well as reduce training cost.
Let’s Assume that The Coca-Cola Company want for its expansion in new place and then
if I was select as HR manager I would do following recruitment process to select employee. The
vacant position be Stock manager, Accountant and Events Manager.
