It’s cloudy today so it’s likely it’ll rain tomorrow.

If + present/ will+ infinitive
We use the 1st conditional if the situation is
likely.
THE 2nd CONDITIONAL
• If it rained tomorrow, I’d get wet.
I’m in the Sahara and it hardly ever rains.
THE 2nd CONDITIONAL
• If it rained tomorrow, I’d get wet.
If + past/ would + infinitive
We use the 2nd conditional if the situation is
unlikely.
THE 3rd CONDITIONAL
Today it is raining but thankfully, yesterday it
was fine….

• If Octopus Paul hadn’t predicted Spain’s
victory, the Spanish team wouldn’t have won.
