There are three goals under this. The first goal isto create a three–in–one phone, allowing
individuals to use the same mobile device wherever they are. It can function as an intercom in the

founded by five major corporations from different countries to develop communication system that

The Bluetooth specification has 2 power levels; a lower power that covers the shorter personal area
within a room, and a higher power level that can cover a medium range, such as within a home. The
distance covered by Bluetooth is commonly 30ft, but it can also cover larger area up to 100 ft.
Bluetooth supports ad hoc voice and data transmission. The Bluetooth devices find each other and
spontaneously create a network called a piconet, which can link up to 8 devices, with one being the

The Bluetooth baseband protocol is a combination of circuit and packet switching. Time slots can be
reserved for synchronous packets. A frequency hop is done for each packet that is transmitted. A

Bluetooth is becoming more popular as it allows data transfer within a short range with minimal
battery consumption. The uses of bluetooth are ever increasing with introduction of wireless
products such as smartwatches, headphones and also because of data transfer between two hand–
held devices. With an increase in usage, there also is an increase in security threat.
Bluetooth, which has been vulnerable to security exploitations since its inception. The earliest form
of this was the Cabir worm, which is believed to have been the first wireless worm. It could transmit
itself to mobile phones using the Symbian platform when those devices were turned on and in
discoverable mode. While it wasn't very harmful – it sent a message with the caribe.ss file attached;
when downloaded the file displayed the word "Caribe" on the handset screen – it served as a wakeup
call to the industry.
Bluetooth threats have evolved since those days, and while they aren't extremely dangerous they can
still be quite serious.

When two bluetooth devices try to authenticate each other by sharing PIN, they are exposed to

Bluetooth and Wi–Fi are two branches of the same tree. They only differ in the way they are used.
Bluetooth is used to transfer data between devices, which are placed near to each other, without the
use of cables. Terminology of Wi–Fi is quite the same but the range of distance between the devices
could be quite large. A typical Wi–Fi network that is being used in a household could have a range
of 200m but a Wi–Fi network that is being used by a business firm could transfer data in several
kilometers.
Bluetooth has a small area of influence (area in which a particular device or network has some
influence). Mostly Bluetooth is used to transfer data between personnel devices such as handsets,
tablets etc. Content that is basically transferred using Bluetooth is usually small, in Mbs, such as
