The Narrow Road To The Deep North And The Railway Man...
From the contexts of the Narrow Road to the Deep North and The Railway Man as both were set in
the same era, many of the same issues arise around the subject of post–traumatic stress disorder and
grief. Through the war, and the hardships soldiers faced, it was hard to return home, with the
unknown expectation of isolation and seclusion, particularly in thoughts and feelings. As friends and
families who stayed at home and did not experience the war, empathy was often difficult, and
opinions and experiences from the war were not often talked about. Through this, guilt and post–war
emotions are often not expresses, and dramatic ways of dealing with the internal pain can often be
life threatening. Often, these feeling are not wanted to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Dorrigo Evans, in The Narrow Road to the Deep North, has a similar experience to Eric. Through
the war, and traumatic experiences, Dorrigo is largely incapable to conjure feelings of love. This
leads him to not feel happy or comfortable in his long–standing relationship with his fiancé Ella.
Although Ella is all Dorrigo every wanted in a woman, correct and loving, his broken past brings
him to infidelity. He has multiple flings with women, hoping to seek the love he has lost from during
the war. He eventually finds a kind of love in Amy Mulvaney, his uncles younger wife. Dorrigo
wasn't looking for love, the love he acquired with Amy found him. Although he loved Amy, she was
also a comping mechanism for Dorrigo, to cope with the trauma of the war. When he was with her,
all his worries about the war went away, and he only though about her, nothing but her.
"And without her (Amy), his life felt to him no longer any life at all." (Flanagan, Richard)
His life in the war, made him feel like life was no longer worth living, but Amy made his life have
purpose, and therefore Flanagan showing the audience the power of love in the darkest times.
Natasha Kampmark, writes an article about the flaws that Dorrigo Evans has, and how these can
prove more examples to his psychological being, and how these can draw the reader closer to him as

sides of the ethical divide; there is

Persuasive Essay Against Animal Testing
Imagine an animal locked in a dark cage, alone without food or water, with a deadly disease
infecting its body, having to watch other animals being experimented on. These animals have zero
control of what is about to happen, and they will never know if today is their last day. This is the
situation that happens when animals are the subject of tests. Many of these animals are suffering
with diseases and possibly growing tumors the size of their bodies. Worldwide, 24 animals die every
minute in laboratories. Every year, 100 million animals die from such test.
These tests are unethical, unnecessary, and is bad science. Mice, fish, rabbits, rats, guinea pigs,
hamsters, farm animals, birds, cats, and dogs are just a few of the animals that are being tested on.
Many of these animals become blind after tests that consist of eyeliner, hand soap, food ingredients,
and medicines. These animals are dying inhumanely, and it needs to stop. PETA scientist stated,
"Life in a cage is no life at all" (PETA). So why, as humans, do we find it acceptable to put them
through all this suffering?
The United States of America allows laboratories to test on animals. Many times testing includes but
is not limited to: starving, isolating, drowning, being burnt, shocked, brain–damaged, and addicted
to drugs. Animal testing is very ineffective due to animals not getting the same diseases as humans.
Also, the testing leaves permanent damage to the animals. Blindness, burning skin, and brain
damage are

The Consequences Of Success In Animal Farm, By George Orwell
Success is an iceberg. What you see on the surface is never the full story. Success can also be very
destructive. In the beginning, it seems harmless but the more that is exposed, the more you uncover
how many consequences come with it. In George Orwell's, Animal Farm, He writes about the
struggles endured throughout the rises and falls of the characters in the book. Animal Farm was
always doomed to fail because the absolute power corrupted the pigs, the uneducated animals were
easily manipulated, and the commandments ended up only applying to the lower class animals. As
the pigs began to take over the farm they got power hungry. They would sit and order the other
animals around as Orwell explains in the following quote, "The pigs did not actually work, but
directed and supervised the others. With their superior knowledge it was natural that they should
assume the leadership." This was the start of the pigs takeover. They were beginning to rule the
whole farm without regarding any of the other animal's opinions. The pigs assumed that they were
more equal than other animals and began to abuse this. Since Squealer was excellent at speaking in a
way in which everyone would agree, he used this to his advantage. In one of his speeches Squealer
said, "Comrades! You do not imagine, I hope, that we pigs are doing this in a spirit of selfishness
and privilege? Many of us actually dislike milk and apples.... Day and night we are watching over
your welfare. It is for your sake that we

Heroes In Power Of Myth By Joseph Campbell
Heroes can be explained in many different ways. Heroes can be said to have specific features like
being ultimately stronger than everyone else, being able to use special powers to defeat their enemy,
or just being able to accomplish something that they themselves or other people thought that they
could never do. Through many years of studying different cultures and their historic myth, people
are able to come up with a theory on how many of the myths complete their heroic cycle.
Joseph Campbell has spent many years studying different cultures and their myths in order to find
out the true qualities of a hero. In the series Power of Myth where he sits down and talks about his
experiences with other cultures and different types of myth, he explains ... Show more content on

A hero can be at the burning house physically helping put out the fire, down the street putting their
life on the line to catch the convict, or in the closest church spreading the word of their religion and
how it has affect their life. Everywhere you go you can always find a hero nearby. The one that is
like family to me that I consider a hero is my elementary teacher. She is there for anyone at any
time. Starting at a young age, she was not always the best or brightest person around. She has told
stories of the things that she has done and the trouble that she and her friends use to cause. In her
late teens she decided this would not be the type of person that she wanted to be and decided to
change the way that she was behaving. She started going to church and found programs that helped
her change her way. After a while she started to reach out to her old friends and eventually got a few
of them to change with her. After a while of this she decided she needed to help more people and
more families and not just the friends and family that she knows best. She started to go to college
and became a teacher that way every year she could help out at least another twenty kids and their
families. For the past 48 years she has continuously helped out these families year after year. She
has also reached out even farther and has helped children out by being a foster parent. Almost every
year she would be given a child or two and has had to raise the kid for the year until someone was
able to properly give them a home. Many of these children had mental problems from being
switched in and out of homes and once she got them she was able to fully understand them and help
them out tremendously, then after a couple months they were able to find a permanent home where
she would send them and then get her next child. Time after time this was done and she has help
more than a dozen children get through this and at the

Muscular Christianity Is Viewed As Courage And Confidence
Muscular Christianity is viewed as courage and confidence one can have. It is seen through a
particular setting such as in a sport like a football. It allows people to have faith and hope in
themselves that they can achieve in something no matter how much criticism they endure.
According to Putney's "God's in the Gym" Muscular Christianity is an idea that lets people honor or
celebrate their bodies. Many hoped that physical experience might increase release from body
rejecting and social limitations. Although sports were denied in some religions due its belief that it
would take away peoples' devotions of their spiritual being, some people were in favor of it.
Although Muscular Christianity was a concept that people had by praying to God to be better at a
sport, this idea is currently dying down. There are some contemporary examples that show Muscular
Christianity still exists today but without religiously relying on and the use of God. People that play
popular sports such as football players, female champions, the still growing YMCA, and the striving
athletes in the Olympic games all have faith in themselves and do not need God. They all have
shown great achievement in their field with the help of Muscular Christianity without the need of
God's faith. However, the movie "Chariots of Fire" shows an immense amount of Muscular
Christianity but is not considered a contemporary example of it due to the religion limitations
portrayed.
Sports were against religion at some point

Theme Of Animalism In Animal Farm
I read a book called, "Animal Farm" written by George Orwell. The book is about animals on a farm
who are overworked, and aren't treated well. Then, an insurgency made up of animals with pigs as
their leaders, rebel against Mr.Jones (owner of the farm) by driving him off his farm. The animals
try to make the perfect life for themselves, but that doesn't go as planned. Animal farm then, starts to
fail. The farm fails because of the pigs not being fair to the other animals, and the animals being too
dumb to realize it. The other animals made mistakes, by not speaking up when they thought
something was wrong. Animalism starts to fail because pigs start to make power grabs that screws
the "perfect life" vision the animals have. . These reasons and many more are why ... Show more

One reason animalism fails, is because of power grabs by animals. There are many examples of this
throughout the book. One power grab that failed animalism, was when the pigs take the milk and the
apples for themselves. "So it was agreed without further argument that the milk and windfall apples
(and also the main crop of apples when they ripened) should be reserved for the pigs alone." (P.g 36)
This is unfair because the pigs being selfish, but they are the leader, it immediately grants them
permission to do so. This shows why animalism fails because the pigs don't do anything for the
wellbeing of animal farm, they do things only for themselves. Another example of a power grab is
when Napoleon (a pig) takes the puppies so that they will obey and protect him. "It happened that
Jessie and Bluebell had both whelped soon after the hay harvest, giving birth between them to nine
sturdy puppies. As soon as they were weaned, Napoleon took them away from their mothers, saying
that he would make himself responsible for their education. He took them up into a loft which could
only be reached by a

Pros And Cons Of Animal Rights : Animal Bill Of Rights
Animal Bill of Rights is a bill that is created based on the U.S Bill of Rights in order to protect the
animals from getting harmed and used in experiments in an abusive way. I stand with Rifkin,
Braithwaite, and Yong on how animals need a "Bill of Rights" due to the fact that we humans,
specifically the scientists, have been treating animals in an inhumane way and considering them as
an object to help achieve many goals. I wouldn't think that such law would go against centuries of
human culture because we have become more and more savage to other animals, and we would need
to have some restrictions to prevent us from hurting them more. First of all, the article "Animal Bill
of Rights" states how animal issues are still a major, critical problem in our society. Animals in our
society are still considered as "property" just like a chair or a table instead of being accepted as a
living creature ("Animal Bill of Rights"). At the moment, there are a large number of loopholes and
insufficient problems with animal protection law. With this detail, animals are still treated unfairly
despite the rules and regulations that are made of from the government. Signing the animal bill of
rights would make a huge impact on the animals since the second reason in the bill promise that
animals will be promulgate standards to govern the humane handling, care, treatment, and
transportation of animals and practices in experimental procedures to ensure that animal pain and
distress are minimized

Battle Of Cowshed Language Analysis
Donald Trump 2016 President of the United States. Well not quite yet. Trump in his campaign for
presidency uses multiple rhetorical techniques to boost his popularity. He has uses biased language
and scapegoating to boost his political campaign just as like Squealer boosts himself to power.
Throughout the book Squealer, continuously uses biased language, in his rhetoric, which leads to
him control the animals. Squealer says that Snowball was Jones's secret agent the whole time and
the Battle of Cowshed was an arrangement. "Did we not see for ourselves how he attempted–
fortunately without success–to get us defeated and destroyed at the Battle of the Cowshed?" This
quote shows the biases Squealer has against Snowball, in which he is basically saying Snowball had
plan this all long and it was his fault for the battle. This evidence is very emotional and well known
event to talk to the animals. Squealer is very biased toward Napoleon, because he wants Napoleon to
maintain power. So he is against Snowball, in which he says Snowball is is for blame for everything.

sitting around the ar farm and planning an attack against the farm. This triggers memories of the
animals who can't believe Snowball would do this because they think he fought so bravely for them.
This is also rewriting history because what Squealer is saying is not the truth about Snowball.
Squealer is able to keep blaming Snowball for their problems and the animals eventually believe
him. He is able to do this by using his tone of his voice, fear. He says " By scapegoating Snowball

My Career Goal: Working With Animals Essay
There is a Pedigree dog commercial I see on television which catches my eye and my heart. It tells
us to not pity a shelter animal. When I decided to become a Veterinary Technician, I anticipated
working in a veterinarian office. Approximately one year ago, I began volunteering for the Denver
Dumb Friends League at the Buddy Center in Castle Rock. This experience has led me to consider
working in a shelter instead of a vet office. A shelter is not necessarily the easiest place to work, and
I have certain criteria I will look for in a career. I enjoy a variety of responsibilities as opposed to
doing the same thing every day. In addition to working with animals, I enjoy interacting with
people, especially kids. One of the main reasons I want ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We contacted the family, and they were ecstatic. The cat was missing for two months, and they had
given up hope. The reunion brought tears to my eyes. One of the primary goals of the Dumb Friends
League involves education. Through the Humane Education program, I get to speak with groups of
children and adults about animal needs, safely approaching a strange animal and overcrowding. This
gives me the opportunity to interact with people, while helping the animals. The primary goal is to
educate people about the need to have animals spayed/neutered. An effective technique to teach
about overpopulation is through stuffed animal kittens. When we visually show how quickly they
can multiply, it is easy for people to understand the need to control animal reproduction. I also enjoy
giving people tours of the Buddy Center and educating about services the shelter offers. In addition
to showing what animals need to keep them healthy and happy, the tours sometimes involve
showing animals available for adoption. I love to help with adoptions because people are excited to
get a new family member. It is a pleasure to see them walk out of the shelter full of smiles with a
clearly delighted animal on its way home. In spite of all the positives, there are some negative
aspects to working in a shelter. It is difficult when animals are scared, and I am unable to help them
feel better. Sometimes, animals arrive who have been on the streets and they

Socio–technical systems theory: an intervention strategy for organizational development
Steven H. Appelbaum Professor of Management, Faculty of Commerce & Administration,

Integrating organizational development (OD) and technological intervention into a total system is
one of the more difficult tasks for an executive or consultant to execute. Organizations are
profoundly affected by technological advancements and require a flexible customized change model
to fit the social network of the specific organization into which technology is being introduced.

development consultant can determine that some or all elements of a traditional model may be
useful for the organization in question"[1, p. 41]. STS theory is probably the most extensive body of
conceptual and empirical work underlying employee involvement and work design applications
today Originally devel. oped at the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations in London, this approach
to designing work has spread to most industrialized nations in a relatively short period of time. In
Europe and particularly Scandinavia, STS theory is almost synonymous with work design and
employee involvement. In Canada and the USA, STS theory has become the major underpinning of
efforts involving work design. Cincinnati Milacron, Amoco, USAA, Stanley Works, General
Electric, and Caterpillar are among many organizations using STS theory to design work[3, p. 352].
Over 30 years ago, the early contributions to socio–technical theory by Emery and Trist or by
Chern's included approaches to design of jobs and work systems. More recently, there seems to be
frequent reference to STS, given the inevitable infiltration of technology into organizations in all
industries. Often though, STS approaches appear to be fragmentary and only loosely reminiscent of
the original theory The techniques used in socio.

Summary Of The Movie Madagascar : Escape 2 Africa
In this paper I am going to critique the movie "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa." I will focus on the
different gender roles, family structure, gender identity, interracial relationships, sexual content,
prejudices, and the violence that are presented by the producers and directors, Soria, Swift, Darnell,
and McGrath (2008). Furthermore, I will discuss about the main characters presented in this film;
characters like Zuba the lion, the lion mother, and Alakay the baby lion known as Alex. Other
characters that are presented in this film in which I will discuss are: the raccoon known as King
Julian, Marty the zebra who is presented as a good friend, Gloria the hippo girl, Melman the giraffe,
Moto Moto the character that likes to flirt, and the lion Makunga who is the mean and selfish
character. In addition, I will explain how movies like the "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" can impact
how children view life. Lastly, I will also discuss about how appropriate the movie Madagascar:
Escape 2 Africa is for children.
In the beginning of the film, Soria et al (2008) present the main characters which are Zuba the lion
father, and his son Alakay learning about gender roles. Zuba is teaching his son to become a man by
teaching him how to fight. However, Alakay enjoys dancing instead of fighting which makes his
father think that his son is strange. Soria et al (2008) present the gender roles that are expected to be
followed. Also, in this scenario, Soria et al (2008) are showing children that

2. Does Porter Fail to Explain How the Factor and Demand...
2. Does Porter fail to explain how the factor and demand conditions that mould a nation's corporate
strategies, business structures, and industrial clusters are established? What other theories and
evidence might assist such an explanation?
Porter explains what factor and demand conditions are, but he fails to explain how they are
established. He defines then, and explains them in detail, but lack the most important aspect, which
is how they are established. A theory like this is not of much use without the information about the
way one can gain these advantages. Porter is always greatly praised for his great work in the

Porter does mention that a nation with only 2 of the determinants, if in a natural resource or low
sophisticated technology or skills industry, will still have an advantage, but will not be able to
sustain it. These aspect are all key, but probably the most vital two are rivalry and cooperation
within the nation. These tie in with Porter's theory of industry clusters. The idea behind of rivalry
and cooperation within a nation is that the rivalry will help drive the firms forward and the
cooperation will also help each firm be more competitive in the global market. The firm may share
ideas of production or new technological revolutions. This information would be shared within an
industry cluster. "..the fundamental source of the domestic industry's global competitive advantage
may well be domestic cooperation that ensures the collectivization of knowledge–a process that
gives those individual enterprises within the domestic industry that share knowledge and ability to
engage in continuous innovation." (Lazonick, 1991) Industry clusters are "geographic
concentrations of interconnected companies, specialized suppliers, service providers, firms in
related industries, and associated institutions (for example, universities, standards agencies, and
trade associations) in particular fields that compete but also cooperate." (Porter, 1979) The
importance and role of clusters, from Porter's

Persuasive Essay On Commercial Animal Testing
Controversial Topic: Commercial Animal Testing Do you have an animal at home? If yes, what
would you do if it were harmed in any way? A common answer to this question is, " I would do
anything in my power to protect my pet." So, if thousands of Americans with pets would stand by
them in any situation, why do people still continue to buy commercial products that are tested on
animals? Commercial products are usually classified as skincare, hair care, and makeup. This is not
to say that only women have to worry about their products being tested on, because men's products
are also tested on. A common reason for companies testing on animals is the price; it is much
cheaper to test on animals than it is to get human volunteers to try out the products before they are

I understand that we have to use animals to get nutrients such as protein, which is vital for survival,
but using animals to test products is unethical and often times they are treated very poorly
throughout their lives. Rabbits and mice are used for the Draize Eye Test which is the process of
ensuring a product is not going to be an irritant to the eyes. When scientists perform this test, they
clip the animals' eyelids back and drip the product (shampoo) into the animals' eyes. This often
causes ulcers, burning, and irritation. Another statement I have heard is animals do not have
feelings. Animals, such as dogs, have been scientifically proven to aid disabled Veteran's. When a
dog is hurt or when an animal is stepped on, or a service dog's owner passes away, they do have
reactions. If a dog is stepped on, it yelps. When a service dog's owner passes away, it goes into a

Human Trafficking Is Today 's Version Of Slavery
We Are People Human trafficking is today's version of slavery. Victims are forced into labor,
prostitution, and other exploitations. In 2007 three brothers conspired together to trafficked women
from Mexico to New York, Queens. The brothers threatened, assaulted, and psychologically coerced
the young women and minors into prostitution. These men were committed to sex trafficking that
one of the brothers, Victor Leonel Estrada– Tepal, forced his wife, who was only seventeen at the
time, into their sex trafficking trade. The brothers did not tell the women the real truth of why they
were taking them to the United States. In January 2014 the three brothers were arrested and in 2015
they plead guilty to sex trafficking through the use of force, fraud, and coercion of the young
women. The brothers are facing a minimum of fifteen years in prison to a life sentence in prison.
According to HSI Special Agent–in–Charge Hayes, "These men preyed on innocent women, luring
them into the United States under false pretenses and then cruelly enslaving them to satisfy their
own greed in a ruthless prostitution scheme" ("Justice News"). These men are only one example of

Symbolism In The Translation Of Dr. Apelles
Deep within the forest, destiny brings two young Native American lovers closer together after a
series of unforeseen tragedies, but not without the help of nature and the animals within the woods.
In the novel, The Translation of Dr. Apelles, specifically within the storyline related to Bimaadiz and
Eta, animal imagery for the pair are associated with the hope and love for their relationship while
animals for the other villagers relate to violence, these animals are a plot device that drive the
storyline ensuring that Bimaadiz and Eta remain a couple and eventually marry. Animal symbolism
associated with the hope for and love within Bimaadiz and Eta's relationship is seen in their
interactions with wolves, deer, moose, and a pack of dogs. Contrastingly, other villages interactions
with these animals symbolize violence and oftentimes death.
In this novel, animals are used as plot devices to save Bimaadiz and Eta from death and capture. The
first experience with animal imagery and Eta in the novel is when her village has died of starvation
and as the only survivor she meets a she–wolf who she suckles from to survive: "With the rough
nipple in front of her face, she latched on and began sucking" (Treuer 19). If it wasn't for Eta's
interaction with the wolf, she would have died. The she–wolf was able to save her life and because
of that, her story and relationship with Bimaadiz was able to unfold later. The dead villagers have an
extremely different interaction with wolves: "If there had been anyone to see it, what happened next
would have looked like the most awful of massacres...All that remained were the half–eaten corpses
of the villagers. The bodies were badly damaged along with all the tunics and moccasins and gloves
they wore" (17–21). Eta's deceased villagers have a more violent experience with the wolves when
they are eaten by them. The word "massacre" and description of half–eaten corpses is an indication
of the violent nature in which the villagers were eaten by the wolves. It was necessary for Eta
survive for her storyline with Bimaadiz to continue, so she was saved by the she–wolf but the other
villagers were not necessary to the story and suffered a violent end. Bimaadiz has a similar

the commandments became: Two legs good, four legs better, no animal shall sleep in a bed with
sheets, no animal shall drink alcohol to excess, no animal shall kill any other animal without cause.
Eventually in order to allow the pigs to have more power and privilege over the other animals, all
the commandments were replaced with just one phrase: "animals are equal, but some animals are
more equal than others." The changing of the rules represents how Napoleon has changed
throughout the story. At the beginning he was equal with everyone including Snowball, but because
of his natural leadership, he's taken the role of being a superior to all the other animals and doing
things that go against the original commandments of the "Animal

What Happened During The Ice Storm
In the text,"What Happened During the Ice Storm," the author vividly describes how the young,
farm boys handle the situation with the ice storm that struck their farm. The author, in the text, says
a whole lot about how humans handle situations. In the article, the farm boys have to save the blind,
cold pheasants from dying and bring them inside. However, they couldn't think of a way to catch
them without spooking them and letting them run away. They stood around for a little bit looking at
each other, because they didn't know what to do and because of how ill equipped they were. The text
says, "Some of them lifted their heads and turned them from side to side...The boys had not brought
clubs, or sacks, or anything but themselves."

Animal Testing Inaccurate
Animal Testing Are you allowing yourself to ignore the unnecessary, unethical, and inaccurate
experiments and tests that are being done to innocent animals every single day? Scientists, doctors,
and other experimenters do physical and mental tests on animals in search of answers. Over time the
horrible practices that were, and still are, happening to these animals on a daily bases were slowly
opened to the public and it seems like no one wanted to believe it. Slowly these ways are being
stopped but there are still labs testing these animals with no sympathy. Animal testing is
unnecessary, unethical, and inaccurate because humans are totally different than animals, there are
other possible ways to find answers, and the experiments done on ... Show more content on

Of the 26 million animals used, 95% of those animals are small rodents, birds, and fish (Listland).
Not many higher mammals are used, making this okay in their eyes. Their biggest support for how
they feel on this topic are facts that make animal testing look ethical and not as bad, just how the
following fact states. "The human population of the United States eats about 9 billion chickens each
year or more than 340 chickens for each animal used in research." (listland). This quote shows not
many of our animals are being tested on even though 26 million may seem like a large number. In
reality, though, we are eating more than we are testing on and the little ones we are testing on won't
make any difference any way, they can reproduce just fine. Many people have argued over this fact,
but a question always pops up and never seems to be solved. Why is it okay for even the little
number of animals to be tested on? The small animals such as birds, fish, and mice have a right to
live their lives and just because they're small it doesn't lessen their importance or tell whether it is
okay for them to be tested

Personal Narrative: A Hero's Journey
Change is inevitable. Whether it be positive or negative, change is constantly happening. More than
often change can take you from the known world and spit you into the unknown, where you return a
changed person. While embarking on the journeys provoked by change, you are on a hero's
journeys. The hero's journey was popularized by Joseph Campbell. When describing what prompts
hero's journeys, Joseph Campbell said,
The usual hero adventure begins with someone from whom something has been taken, or who feels
there is something lacking in the normal experience available or permitted to the members of
society. The person then takes off on a series of adventures beyond the ordinary, either to recover
what has been lost or to discover some life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without living in Gualala I would have never really got to experience nature the way I am so
privileged to do so. Another unique thing Gualala and Point Arena give us is a sense of community.
Most other places do not have the privilege of having everyone know each other.
Atonement
The atonement is when the hero completes his or her journey, leaving the hero satisfied and in sync
with the world around them. The hero comes into the atonement a changed person. The hero is most
mature during this stage. After the move was complete I was very happy with it. Gualala seemed
great and it was very beautiful.
The Return
The return is the last step in the hero's journey. The return is when the hero goes home upon
completion of the journey. Sometimes the hero goes out and lives alone, isolated from society. In
most cases however the hero returns home and continues living their life.
The Return to Society Although this hero journey had ended, I had much more in progress and
waiting to be done. In my opinion, this move was very beneficial even though I wasn't particularly
content about it at first. The journey I was preparing myself for next was school.

The Rise Of Fear By Marilynne Robinson
Faltering Faithfulness: The Rise In Fear
Fear is often characterized as an irrational sense of negativity toward the unknown or the unlikeable.
In the eyes of many Americans, the majority of whom proclaim their Christian beliefs, this sensation
is considered unavoidable. Marilynne Robinson argues in her article "Fear", published by The New
York Review of Books in 2015, that "...first, contemporary America is full of fear. And second, fear
is not a Christian habit of mind" (Robinson 1). In other words, it is 'unchristian' to fear. In both the
beginning and conclusion, she clearly expresses credibility through her extensive credentials and
strong emotional arguments; however, this is overshadowed by the wordiness, sarcasm, and lack of

Robinson's use of her intelligence and lengthy career helps build an image of reliability within her
argument initially. However, as citing facts soon turns to reciting history as if directly from a
textbook, her wealth of knowledge becomes exhausting. Focus changes numerously from fear, to
gun rights, to ever–changing religious views in the nation, and her argument lacks the clarity that it
began with. In her effort to almost brag about how well–read she is, Marilynne completely loses
sight of the purpose and the attention of the reader.
Robinson emphasizes some her argument on employing logical persuasion to counteract her
shortcomings in credibility. It's frequent that events in history can repeat themselves, and
understanding the implications of past actions helps to prevent future mistakes. Fear is an emotion
that is, in our society today, unavoidable. Yet, this is precisely what creates an atmosphere of
political or social unrest within the nation and abroad. Because, it serves as a tool by which ideas
can be spread or perhaps forced down upon those easily convinced. She cites guns as being a prime
example of this case, saying: "gun sales stimulate gun sales," and "when people see weapons, they
have every reason on earth to fear the worst" (4 Robinson). Fear is better described as being
'contagious'. As the threat of violence, for example, increases, the perceived need for violence in
retaliation increases. The logical response

The Differences Of Alexander Hamilton And Thomas Jeffersons
Like many in their time, Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson were friends and on the same
"side" to absolve colonial ties with Great Britain. But once the war was over and independence was
documented in the Treaty of Paris, the new business of creating a new nation was at hand. During
this time, it became apparent that those who shared the same "side" during the revolution would
now find themselves at odds with one another. Both men had visions and desires for the new nation.
However, nearly one hundred years later and following the civil war, one vision in particular, was
closer to reality than the other. Both of these men were fundamental in the birth of this nation, but
their views on government, economics, and politics differ substantially. Economically speaking,
Hamilton wanted a growing and thriving society based on trade and large manufacturing companies.
In contrast, Jefferson envisioned a society that was based mainly on the presence of many small
farmers. Jefferson particularly did not want large amounts of manufacturing to be done in the US.
He argued that manufactured goods could be imported from Europe, while the US could remain
primarily agrarian. During the Reconstruction period, the South went through a major reconstruction
and rebuilding phase. Although farming was still a large part of the economy, large manufacturing
facilities emerged as well. The increase in large manufacturing facilities and international trade
mirrored the vision of Hamilton much more so than Jefferson's. Jefferson and Hamilton differed
widely in their views of politics and the structure of society. Jefferson envisioned an egalitarian
country vs Hamilton's aspirations of a more stratified society. Jefferson wanted pure equality for
everyone regardless of social, economic, or background. In contrast, Hamilton wanted a growing
manufacturing society were owners of factories and large industries were politically more powerful
than the people that worked for them. Although the Reconstruction was designed to create a perfect
"equal rights" society, other than freeing the slaves, it failed miserably and was unlike Jefferson's
vision of an egalitarian society. Although the slaves were free, they still didn't receive equal

Snowball Vs. Napoleon 's Animal Farm
Asher Barrett

Literature

Snowball vs. Napoleon Snowball and Napoleon both had different opinions how Animal Farm
should be run. They both had a common goal but they both had a completely different way to
achieve that goal. If Napoleon had an idea Snowball would have a completely different idea that
would lead in a different way. There are three ways that Napoleon and Snowball were different. First
everything Napoleon took part in would benefit himself not the whole Animal Farm. Second was
that Napoleon never showed interest in the strength of the Animal Farm but only in the strength of
his authority over it. Lastly Napoleon would take more to brute force while Snowball was a very
good and persuasive speaker. The first way that Napoleon and snowball were different was that
while Napoleon only cared about how everything would benefit himself. Snowball cared nothing
about himself and would care only for the benefit of the Animal Farm. One early example of
Napoleon's selfishness was when he secretly raised the puppies for his own purpose. Snowball had
many different ideas and plans that would lessen the workload upon the animals. Napoleon at first
seemed to strongly disagree with all the plans and wanted no part in any of it but then after he got
rid of Snowball he brought the ideas all back up and claimed them as his own. Snowball was also a
big enthusiast of animalism and wanted it to spread to all the other farms while Napoleon only
wanted to be superior

How Is Islamic State a Modern Day Animal Farm?
Although alluding to a completely different nation in a different time period, George Orwell's
animals in Animal Farm also have their similarities with ISIS, a modern day terrorist organization.
George Orwell alluded to Stalin's USSR(Soviet Union) seventy years ago with this work, but similar
allusions can be made to today's ISIS. ISIS is a modern day Animal Farm because Animal Farm's
and ISIS's leader are very similar, they use a certain ideology to make people believe what they say,
and certain similarities are shared between the pigs and ISIS members.
Animal Farm and ISIS's leaders are similar. In Animal Farm's case it is Napoleon, and in ISIS's case
it is Abu Bakr al–Baghdadi. Both are very bad people and are selfish and greedy. Both use

Should Convicted Felons Have The Right Of Vote?
Jason Reeves
Mrs. Joseph
ELA
6/7/17 Should convicted felons have the right to vote?
How would you feel if one mistake caused one of your main rights as citizens to be taken away?
Today, people who have paid their dues are denied their innate right to vote and to participate in
decisions that governs their lives. Convicted felons who served their time have an innate right to
vote and failure to allow ex–felons to vote has a disproportionate impact on my minority
communities.
Having the right to vote is a part of being an American just like making a mistake is a part of being
human. President Obama said it best "...while the people in our prisons have made some mistakes –

In fact, ex–felons who have learned from their mistakes can offer a different perspective when
creating laws. This perspective can help create laws that prevent others from committing similar
crimes. If a felon has paid his debt to society and turned his life around they should have the right to
vote.
Before the Civil War, there were no federal laws to protect voting rights. Only white males had the
right to vote. In 1870, the 15th Amendment was established which stated "Specifically that the right
to vote shall not be denied or abridged on the basis of race, or previous condition of servitude"
(Introduction to Federal Voting Rights Laws). This amendment gives all Americans the right to be a
voice of change for the people by electing officials who will make a difference in their communities.
Unfortunately, one mistake can cause you to lose this right forever. As stated by Eric H. Holder, JD,
US Attorney General, in his Feb. 11, 2014, speech;
"Across this country today, an estimated 5.8 million Americans of our fellow citizens are prohibited
from voting because of a current or previous felony conviction. That's more than the individual
populations of 31 U.S. States.
And although well over a century has passed since post–Reconstruction states used these measures
to strip African–Americans of their most fundamental rights, the impact of felony
disenfranchisement on modern communities of color remains both

Corruption Due To Power In George Orwell's Animal Farm
Power is one of the most desired things in the world, and is often hard to attain, but once it is gained
it can often corrupt a person. Corruption due to power is shown in many instances in the book,
Animal Farm. In the book, there is an opening for someone to take control of the power, and the
animals that do are the pigs. The pigs gain the power for many reasons. When power is gained there
are many things people can do with it, either bad or good. The pigs' actions in animal farm show the
different ways that power can be used by those in charge.
Knowledge is the primary form of power that the pigs have and take advantage of. Towards the
beginning of the book this is shown when the pigs create a society in which they are superior
because of their intellect: "but the pigs were so clever that they could think of a way round every
difficulty. As for the horses, they knew every inch of the field, and in fact understood the business of
mowing and raking far better than Jones and his men had ever done. The pigs did not actually work,
but directed and supervised the others. With their superior knowledge it was natural that they should
assume the leadership." (pg. 27) This shows that the power is distributed unevenly, and the pigs
have much more because they are not working and think that they are above that. the pigs not
working shows their selfish and deceptive side, and that they are trying to say they should not have
to work because of their superior knowledge. The pigs gained

What is the Significance of the Candidacy of Donald Trump?
An analysis of underlying bigotry and racism in America
Austin C. Kuhn
The Shape of the Modern World – FYS112–H1A
Dr. James MacLeod
Friday, September 23, 2016
What is the Signifigance of the Candidacy of Donald Trump? The election of 2016 has seen rise to a
number of strong, semi–radical opinions and ridiculous jokes (mostly created and spreaded online).
These jokes range from the "accusation" that Ted Cruz is the zodiac killer (Dean) to Hillary
Clinton's pneumonia (Denisova). But perhaps the scariest thing to spring from this election is the
Republican Donald Trump. A candidate who the press refused to take seriously in the early days of
his campaign who has become the Republican's nominee for President of the United States. But the
most fascinating aspect of this nomination is the question of how Trump, when the majority of
Republican party leaders oppose him, managed to secure his place on the ticket. Further, it brings
into question how bigotry in today's society parallels that of the anti–integration movement in the
1960's. Over time the way a Presidential campaign is run has evolved and changed, and who has the
power in a race has shifted. Beginning in 1960, public image was taken to a whole new level. The
first televised debate between Nixon and Kennedy revolutionized how a candidate had to perform–
the public had a clear split.

A Narretive Essay: One Last Time
In "One Last Time," Gary Soto talks about how he grew up in an immigrant family, and to make
money had to work the fields. He talks about how the menial jobs made him feel and what he
thought of them. I may not be able to relate to the immigrant laborer part of the story. I understand
what it's like to come from very little but still think that some things are not worth doing just to get
something if it will make you feel like less than you are. Soto goes into great detail about his time
picking grapes and cotton, but he doesn't really go into as much detail about why he feels the way he
does. I feel that even though he talks about being a laborer and how he felt, it can be understood by
many different types of people. I think that it is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Soto describes how after working in the grape field that although he had earned the money he felt
like a "Mexican." He eventually decided he'd rather go without new clothes for school than continue
to do a job that he felt was beneath him. I have held many jobs that I thought were beneath me but
unlike Soto I was never willing to walk away simply because of that. I have learned over the years
that although I may not like the job if it will help me to reach my goal than it is not beneath me. We
are only limited by what we allow to limit us. Although there are a multitude of differences between
our worlds, like the way we grew up and the differences in our heritage. There are also many
similarities that help me to relate to Soto and his experience. I do wish that I could have seen more
of why he felt that the jobs he was doing made him feel like he was doing something that he
shouldn't have to do. As I reflect on the story Soto tells I think about how I could have decided not
to do something only to find that I can't get back what I did. While Soto did eventually return to the
grape fields not everyone has the opportunity to go back and make what they think is a bad situation
better. I think that the point of his essay was to express his point that no matter what we have to
strive for excellence and settle for nothing less than what we feel we deserve. He came back to his
roots and grew from his past experiences much the same way that I have

Forrest Gump Analysis
Forrest Gump is a romantic, historical drama that follows the protagonist, Forrest Gump, on his wild
adventures throughout the world, where he is a hero time and time again despite having the measly
IQ of 75. Although the audience is entranced with all of the success that Forrest garners (as a ping
pong champion, Medal of Honor recipient, tycoon of a shrimping business and much more), Forrest
himself is always focused on his love for Jenny, his first childhood friend that steals his heart. The
script spans decades, as Forrest grows from a challenged child to proud father, time and again
meeting up with Jenny. Forrest is always forward with his love for Jenny, yet she does not let herself
be with Forrest, as she is enveloped with her love for the limelight and fame. As the story
progresses, Forrest continues to recount his continued success, while snippets of Jenny slowly show
her downward spiral as she struggles to be involved with the life of a hippy, stripper, and then a
hardcore drug abuser. It is only after Forrest Gump returns home after the death of his mother that
Jenny returns to their childhood home of Greenbow, Mississippi and stays with Forrest. After a night
of love making, Jenny again slips out of Forrest's life, but this time with a newfound light in her
face, as if she has risen from her rock bottom state. Then, Forrest goes on a cross country run, again
gaining the attention of the media, but more importantly the request of Jenny to come see her in the

The Problem Of Contagion And Its Effect On The Contagion...
Contagion is defined as the relationship that exists in returns above and afar the economic essentials
like exposure to common international risk factors (Cai & Wong, 2010 p. 10). To control the
possible effects of frequent exposure to necessities in enhancing the contagion correlation, the
research will filter the country's index returns for familiar exposures. The filtering will define the
deviations from the predictable correlation in proceeds based on the economic fundamentals. The
research will regress the returns of every nation individually using some variables using a regression
model. Testing for the worst return contagion To capture the cross–border contagion in proceeds, the
research will utilize the value approach that will test whether the trial observations in the filtered
returns are related across nations. Trial observations are the filtered returns in the lower deciles of a
nation's time series allotment over the whole sample period. The research will use the logit model to
tackle the problem of contagion by approximating whether a specified nation is more expected to
have the worst return in a specified week, restricted to other countries having as well experienced
the worst return in the preceding week. The dependent variable is an indicator variable that is set to
one in case the local nation index under study has a weekly return in the lower deciles of every
weekly proceeds for that nation and zero otherwise (Morrison & White, 2013 p. 645). To evaluate

Failure of the Revolution in Animal Farm Essays
The animals in the book "Animal Farm" hoped to achieve unity, equality. trust/truth, prosperity,
better quality of life, freedom and individuality, in terms of the revolution. This was achieved at the
beginning of the revolution, which made it a success, but in the end the revolution was a failure.
The farm, in many ways, was very prosperous when the revolution began. The animals were given
an education, "the reading and writing classes were however a great success," which made them feel
equal to the humans because they were now learning in the same way the humans did. The farm was

Singing "Beasts of England" continually unified the animals. Even when the animals received no
orders, " without waiting for further orders, they charged forth in a body," they unified to fight the
enemy and protect their home.
The animals quality of life, did also improve for a little while. They were able to be their own
bosses, " no more Jones," and worked for themselves. Since they were now motivated, they worked
harder, " worked according to their own capacity," thus the amount of food they received increased
since they did not have to sell it.
This all went very well for a while, but the revolution then took a drastic downfall. The animal's
freedom and individuality was slowly taken away. Napoleon took the dogs freedom away by
"making them bow, " and obey him only. The animals also began to have no freedom of speech, "
raised their voices timidly but they were promptly silent by a tremendous growling," which shows
us that the farm was no longer run by all the animals but rather by the pigs, anything they say is
right and you may not argue. The animals no all had to be the same, which can be taken as equality,
but it was taken to the extreme. The animals had to call each other, "comrade," and they weren't
even allowed to stick out in the smallest ways, " Molly's ribbons were taken," which was fine at first
but then slowly the animals started forgetting who they were.

In A Flood Inside Me Analysis
At the start of the book Ed is simply existing. He's not living, "I cook. I eat. I wash but rarely iron. I
live in the past and believe that Cindy Crawford is by far the best supermodel. That's my life." (p.20)
This is a sentence that I feel really shows who Ed is at the beginning. He more or less does the same
thing every day in sort of a monotone way. Throughout the cards and difficulties that Ed goes
through, we really start to see a person emerging out of Ed. We see someone who is feeling and
hoping and living. "In a flood inside me....three minutes straight." (pg.351) This change that we see
in Ed happens progressively. Each card and task that is given to Ed brings out something in him that
in the beginning we didn't see often. During the first chapter it doesn't seem that Ed has a lot of
fears. When we were first introduced to him during the bank robbery scene I perceived him to be
quite stupid. Then, we got to know him a little more and I saw that he was afraid, afraid of not doing
anything with his life. "Just prior to the bank robbery, I'd been taking stock of my life. Cabdriver–

What Instrument Was Best For Me
Jazz Standards
Music isn 't just what I do, it 's who I am, and who I've always been. I play twelve instruments.
Some fluently, some only a singular note or, maybe a song. This all started out in sixth grade when I
could not decide what instrument was best for me. I started out my first two months of middle
school by switching from instrument to instrument. I began with the oboe, and a week later, I
changed to percussion. Only then, did I attempt to play all of the brass instruments–– and I mean all
of them–– trumpet, french horn, tuba, trombone, and baritone, you name it, and I've probably played
it. Next, I moved on to all of the woodwinds, flutes, clarinets, and all of the saxophones. Again, I
cycled through the percussion instruments once again. Finally, I decided that I would rather play
notes on a staff than beat something with a stick. I was forced, by my very irritated band teacher, to
pick one of the two that I was better at, the alto saxophone or the trumpet. Two completely different
musical instruments in two completely different musical families. Of course, as an indecisive twelve
year old, I could not pick. Mr. Deneen, a woodwind player himself, chose the alto saxophone.
The alto saxophone has stuck with me for many years–– six, to be exact. My sixth grade year I
became really good at playing my saxophone. I went from indecisiveness to first chair in a matter of
weeks. In fact, I was so talented that I was moved up into the eighth grade band as a sixth grader.

Songs In Animal Farm
Knowing the correct information
One of the main theme in Animal Farm was the use of power in order to control animals in lower
class. This theme was seen through Napoleon's control of songs, propaganda by Squealer, and
intimidation. Animals who were not literate were exploited by the upper class, pigs.
Animal Farm used the songs to control animals in lower class by upper class. The songs were
"Beasts of England" and "Comrade Napoleon". At first the animals sang a song "Beast of
England"after Sunday's meeting, "The Meeting always ended with the singing of 'Beasts of
England', and the afternoon was given up to recreation." (Orwell. 31), this was so effective to
control animals because they deepened their unity by singing and increased awareness animals. In
this book, the song of the Rebellion named Beasts of England gave a power to animals "Even the

Animal Cruelty Investigator
What I Knew Being an Animal Cruelty Investigator has been something that has interested me for a
long time since I came across the show "Animal Cops." I know a few things about this career. First,
I know that it can be at times a very dangerous job not just because of the mistreated animals, but
because of the crazy people too. From encountering an abused animal that only knows a life of
punishment and horrible training they can be skittish and scared causing them to lash out at any
point. The humans on the other hand who have hurt these animals are bad people and deserve time
in jail, which they can't accept causing them to also lash out at any point just like the animals may. I
also know that it involves a lot of patience, staying calm and decent communication skills. When on

Gestational Crates Should Not Be On Factory Farms
Gestational crates should not be on factory farms. Gestational crates limit the pigs movement so
much that the mothers are stuck on there sides when there are pregnant and can not move to eat or
go to the bathroom. Gestational crates should not be on factory farming. In this essay I will talk
about how gestational crates abuse the pigs that are put in them, how the mother pigs are treated on

the pregnant mother pigs because they can't get off their sides and have to sit in their own feces.
They also can't get

  • 1. The Narrow Road To The Deep North And The Railway Man... From the contexts of the Narrow Road to the Deep North and The Railway Man as both were set in the same era, many of the same issues arise around the subject of post–traumatic stress disorder and grief. Through the war, and the hardships soldiers faced, it was hard to return home, with the unknown expectation of isolation and seclusion, particularly in thoughts and feelings. As friends and families who stayed at home and did not experience the war, empathy was often difficult, and opinions and experiences from the war were not often talked about. Through this, guilt and post–war emotions are often not expresses, and dramatic ways of dealing with the internal pain can often be life threatening. Often, these feeling are not wanted to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dorrigo Evans, in The Narrow Road to the Deep North, has a similar experience to Eric. Through the war, and traumatic experiences, Dorrigo is largely incapable to conjure feelings of love. This leads him to not feel happy or comfortable in his long–standing relationship with his fiancé Ella. Although Ella is all Dorrigo every wanted in a woman, correct and loving, his broken past brings him to infidelity. He has multiple flings with women, hoping to seek the love he has lost from during the war. He eventually finds a kind of love in Amy Mulvaney, his uncles younger wife. Dorrigo wasn't looking for love, the love he acquired with Amy found him. Although he loved Amy, she was also a comping mechanism for Dorrigo, to cope with the trauma of the war. When he was with her, all his worries about the war went away, and he only though about her, nothing but her. "And without her (Amy), his life felt to him no longer any life at all." (Flanagan, Richard) His life in the war, made him feel like life was no longer worth living, but Amy made his life have purpose, and therefore Flanagan showing the audience the power of love in the darkest times. Natasha Kampmark, writes an article about the flaws that Dorrigo Evans has, and how these can prove more examples to his psychological being, and how these can draw the reader closer to him as a character. • 2. Persuasive Essay Against Animal Testing Imagine an animal locked in a dark cage, alone without food or water, with a deadly disease infecting its body, having to watch other animals being experimented on. These animals have zero control of what is about to happen, and they will never know if today is their last day. This is the situation that happens when animals are the subject of tests. Many of these animals are suffering with diseases and possibly growing tumors the size of their bodies. Worldwide, 24 animals die every minute in laboratories. Every year, 100 million animals die from such test. These tests are unethical, unnecessary, and is bad science. Mice, fish, rabbits, rats, guinea pigs, hamsters, farm animals, birds, cats, and dogs are just a few of the animals that are being tested on. Many of these animals become blind after tests that consist of eyeliner, hand soap, food ingredients, and medicines. These animals are dying inhumanely, and it needs to stop. PETA scientist stated, "Life in a cage is no life at all" (PETA). So why, as humans, do we find it acceptable to put them through all this suffering? The United States of America allows laboratories to test on animals. Many times testing includes but is not limited to: starving, isolating, drowning, being burnt, shocked, brain–damaged, and addicted to drugs. Animal testing is very ineffective due to animals not getting the same diseases as humans. Also, the testing leaves permanent damage to the animals. Blindness, burning skin, and brain damage are ... • 5. The Consequences Of Success In Animal Farm, By George Orwell Success is an iceberg. What you see on the surface is never the full story. Success can also be very destructive. In the beginning, it seems harmless but the more that is exposed, the more you uncover how many consequences come with it. In George Orwell's, Animal Farm, He writes about the struggles endured throughout the rises and falls of the characters in the book. Animal Farm was always doomed to fail because the absolute power corrupted the pigs, the uneducated animals were easily manipulated, and the commandments ended up only applying to the lower class animals. As the pigs began to take over the farm they got power hungry. They would sit and order the other animals around as Orwell explains in the following quote, "The pigs did not actually work, but directed and supervised the others. With their superior knowledge it was natural that they should assume the leadership." This was the start of the pigs takeover. They were beginning to rule the whole farm without regarding any of the other animal's opinions. The pigs assumed that they were more equal than other animals and began to abuse this. Since Squealer was excellent at speaking in a way in which everyone would agree, he used this to his advantage. In one of his speeches Squealer said, "Comrades! You do not imagine, I hope, that we pigs are doing this in a spirit of selfishness and privilege? Many of us actually dislike milk and apples.... Day and night we are watching over your welfare. • 6. Heroes In Power Of Myth By Joseph Campbell Heroes can be explained in many different ways. Heroes can be said to have specific features like being ultimately stronger than everyone else, being able to use special powers to defeat their enemy, or just being able to accomplish something that they themselves or other people thought that they could never do. Through many years of studying different cultures and their historic myth, people are able to come up with a theory on how many of the myths complete their heroic cycle. Joseph Campbell has spent many years studying different cultures and their myths in order to find out the true qualities of a hero. A hero can be at the burning house physically helping put out the fire, down the street putting their life on the line to catch the convict, or in the closest church spreading the word of their religion and how it has affect their life. Everywhere you go you can always find a hero nearby. The one that is like family to me that I consider a hero is my elementary teacher. She is there for anyone at any time. Starting at a young age, she was not always the best or brightest person around. She has told stories of the things that she has done and the trouble that she and her friends use to cause. In her late teens she decided this would not be the type of person that she wanted to be and decided to change the way that she was behaving. She started going to church and found programs that helped her change her way. After a while she started to reach out to her old friends and eventually got a few of them to change with her. After a while of this she decided she needed to help more people and more families and not just the friends and family that she knows best. She started to go to college and became a teacher that way every year she could help out at least another twenty kids and their families. For the past 48 years she has continuously helped out these families year after year. She has also reached out even farther and has helped children out by being a foster parent. Almost every year she would be given a child or two and has had to raise the kid for the year until someone was able to properly give them a home. Many of these children had mental problems from being switched in and out of homes and once she got them she was able to fully understand them and help them out tremendously, then after a couple months they were able to find a permanent home where she would send them and then get her next child. • 7. Muscular Christianity Is Viewed As Courage And Confidence Muscular Christianity is viewed as courage and confidence one can have. It is seen through a particular setting such as in a sport like a football. It allows people to have faith and hope in themselves that they can achieve in something no matter how much criticism they endure. According to Putney's "God's in the Gym" Muscular Christianity is an idea that lets people honor or celebrate their bodies. Many hoped that physical experience might increase release from body rejecting and social limitations. Although sports were denied in some religions due its belief that it would take away peoples' devotions of their spiritual being, some people were in favor of it. Although Muscular Christianity was a concept that people had by praying to God to be better at a sport, this idea is currently dying down. There are some contemporary examples that show Muscular Christianity still exists today but without religiously relying on and the use of God. People that play popular sports such as football players, female champions, the still growing YMCA, and the striving athletes in the Olympic games all have faith in themselves and do not need God. They all have shown great achievement in their field with the help of Muscular Christianity without the need of God's faith. However, the movie "Chariots of Fire" shows an immense amount of Muscular Christianity but is not considered a contemporary example of it due to the religion limitations portrayed. Sports were against religion at some point ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Theme Of Animalism In Animal Farm I read a book called, "Animal Farm" written by George Orwell. The book is about animals on a farm who are overworked, and aren't treated well. Then, an insurgency made up of animals with pigs as their leaders, rebel against Mr.Jones (owner of the farm) by driving him off his farm. The animals try to make the perfect life for themselves, but that doesn't go as planned. Animal farm then, starts to fail. The farm fails because of the pigs not being fair to the other animals, and the animals being too dumb to realize it. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One reason animalism fails, is because of power grabs by animals. There are many examples of this throughout the book. One power grab that failed animalism, was when the pigs take the milk and the apples for themselves. "So it was agreed without further argument that the milk and windfall apples (and also the main crop of apples when they ripened) should be reserved for the pigs alone." (P.g 36) This is unfair because the pigs being selfish, but they are the leader, it immediately grants them permission to do so. This shows why animalism fails because the pigs don't do anything for the wellbeing of animal farm, they do things only for themselves. Another example of a power grab is when Napoleon (a pig) takes the puppies so that they will obey and protect him. "It happened that Jessie and Bluebell had both whelped soon after the hay harvest, giving birth between them to nine sturdy puppies. • 9. Pros And Cons Of Animal Rights : Animal Bill Of Rights Animal Bill of Rights is a bill that is created based on the U.S Bill of Rights in order to protect the animals from getting harmed and used in experiments in an abusive way. I stand with Rifkin, Braithwaite, and Yong on how animals need a "Bill of Rights" due to the fact that we humans, specifically the scientists, have been treating animals in an inhumane way and considering them as an object to help achieve many goals. I wouldn't think that such law would go against centuries of human culture because we have become more and more savage to other animals, and we would need to have some restrictions to prevent us from hurting them more. First of all, the article "Animal Bill of Rights" states how animal issues are still a major, critical problem in our society. Animals in our society are still considered as "property" just like a chair or a table instead of being accepted as a living creature ("Animal Bill of Rights"). At the moment, there are a large number of loopholes and insufficient problems with animal protection law. With this detail, animals are still treated unfairly despite the rules and regulations that are made of from the government. Signing the animal bill of rights would make a huge impact on the animals since the second reason in the bill promise that animals will be promulgate standards to govern the humane handling, care, treatment, and transportation of animals and practices in experimental procedures to ensure that animal pain and distress are minimized ... • 11. My Career Goal: Working With Animals Essay There is a Pedigree dog commercial I see on television which catches my eye and my heart. It tells us to not pity a shelter animal. When I decided to become a Veterinary Technician, I anticipated working in a veterinarian office. Approximately one year ago, I began volunteering for the Denver Dumb Friends League at the Buddy Center in Castle Rock. This experience has led me to consider working in a shelter instead of a vet office. A shelter is not necessarily the easiest place to work, and I have certain criteria I will look for in a career. The reunion brought tears to my eyes. One of the primary goals of the Dumb Friends League involves education. Through the Humane Education program, I get to speak with groups of children and adults about animal needs, safely approaching a strange animal and overcrowding. This gives me the opportunity to interact with people, while helping the animals. The primary goal is to educate people about the need to have animals spayed/neutered. An effective technique to teach about overpopulation is through stuffed animal kittens. When we visually show how quickly they can multiply, it is easy for people to understand the need to control animal reproduction. I also enjoy giving people tours of the Buddy Center and educating about services the shelter offers. In addition to showing what animals need to keep them healthy and happy, the tours sometimes involve showing animals available for adoption. I love to help with adoptions because people are excited to get a new family member. It is a pleasure to see them walk out of the shelter full of smiles with a clearly delighted animal on its way home. In spite of all the positives, there are some negative aspects to working in a shelter. It is difficult when animals are scared, and I am unable to help them feel better. So, if thousands of Americans with pets would stand by them in any situation, why do people still continue to buy commercial products that are tested on animals? Commercial products are usually classified as skincare, hair care, and makeup. • 18. Symbolism In The Translation Of Dr. Apelles Deep within the forest, destiny brings two young Native American lovers closer together after a series of unforeseen tragedies, but not without the help of nature and the animals within the woods. In the novel, The Translation of Dr. Apelles, specifically within the storyline related to Bimaadiz and Eta, animal imagery for the pair are associated with the hope and love for their relationship while animals for the other villagers relate to violence, these animals are a plot device that drive the storyline ensuring that Bimaadiz and Eta remain a couple and eventually marry. Animal symbolism associated with the hope for and love within Bimaadiz and Eta's relationship is seen in their interactions with wolves, deer, moose, and a pack of dogs. Contrastingly, other villages interactions with these animals symbolize violence and oftentimes death. In this novel, animals are used as plot devices to save Bimaadiz and Eta from death and capture. The first experience with animal imagery and Eta in the novel is when her village has died of starvation and as the only survivor she meets a she–wolf who she suckles from to survive: "With the rough nipple in front of her face, she latched on and began sucking" (Treuer 19). If it wasn't for Eta's interaction with the wolf, she would have died. The she–wolf was able to save her life and because of that, her story and relationship with Bimaadiz was able to unfold later. The dead villagers have an extremely different interaction with wolves: "If there had been anyone to see it, what happened next would have looked like the most awful of massacres...All that remained were the half–eaten corpses of the villagers. The bodies were badly damaged along with all the tunics and moccasins and gloves they wore" (17–21). Eta's deceased villagers have a more violent experience with the wolves when they are eaten by them. The word "massacre" and description of half–eaten corpses is an indication of the violent nature in which the villagers were eaten by the wolves. The Differences Of Alexander Hamilton And Thomas Jeffersons Like many in their time, Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson were friends and on the same "side" to absolve colonial ties with Great Britain. But once the war was over and independence was documented in the Treaty of Paris, the new business of creating a new nation was at hand. During this time, it became apparent that those who shared the same "side" during the revolution would now find themselves at odds with one another. Both men had visions and desires for the new nation. However, nearly one hundred years later and following the civil war, one vision in particular, was closer to reality than the other. Both of these men were fundamental in the birth of this nation, but their views on government, economics, and politics differ substantially. Economically speaking, Hamilton wanted a growing and thriving society based on trade and large manufacturing companies. In contrast, Jefferson envisioned a society that was based mainly on the presence of many small farmers. Jefferson particularly did not want large amounts of manufacturing to be done in the US. He argued that manufactured goods could be imported from Europe, while the US could remain primarily agrarian. During the Reconstruction period, the South went through a major reconstruction and rebuilding phase. Although farming was still a large part of the economy, large manufacturing facilities emerged as well. The increase in large manufacturing facilities and international trade mirrored the vision of Hamilton much more so than Jefferson's. Jefferson and Hamilton differed widely in their views of politics and the structure of society. Jefferson envisioned an egalitarian country vs Hamilton's aspirations of a more stratified society. Jefferson wanted pure equality for everyone regardless of social, economic, or background. In contrast, Hamilton wanted a growing manufacturing society were owners of factories and large industries were politically more powerful than the people that worked for them. In 1870, the 15th Amendment was established which stated "Specifically that the right to vote shall not be denied or abridged on the basis of race, or previous condition of servitude" (Introduction to Federal Voting Rights Laws). This amendment gives all Americans the right to be a voice of change for the people by electing officials who will make a difference in their communities. Unfortunately, one mistake can cause you to lose this right forever. As stated by Eric H. Holder, JD, US Attorney General, in his Feb. 11, 2014, speech; "Across this country today, an estimated 5.8 million Americans of our fellow citizens are prohibited from voting because of a current or previous felony conviction. That's more than the individual populations of 31 U.S. States. And although well over a century has passed since post–Reconstruction states used these measures to strip African–Americans of their most fundamental rights, the impact of felony disenfranchisement on modern communities of color remains both ... • 28. Corruption Due To Power In George Orwell's Animal Farm Power is one of the most desired things in the world, and is often hard to attain, but once it is gained it can often corrupt a person. Corruption due to power is shown in many instances in the book, Animal Farm. In the book, there is an opening for someone to take control of the power, and the animals that do are the pigs. The pigs gain the power for many reasons. When power is gained there are many things people can do with it, either bad or good. The pigs' actions in animal farm show the different ways that power can be used by those in charge. Knowledge is the primary form of power that the pigs have and take advantage of. Towards the beginning of the book this is shown when the pigs create a society in which they are superior because of their intellect: "but the pigs were so clever that they could think of a way round every difficulty. As for the horses, they knew every inch of the field, and in fact understood the business of mowing and raking far better than Jones and his men had ever done. The pigs did not actually work, but directed and supervised the others. With their superior knowledge it was natural that they should assume the leadership." (pg. 27) This shows that the power is distributed unevenly, and the pigs have much more because they are not working and think that they are above that. the pigs not working shows their selfish and deceptive side, and that they are trying to say they should not have to work because of their superior knowledge. The pigs gained ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Analysis Of ' The Shape Of The Modern World ' University of Evansville What is the Significance of the Candidacy of Donald Trump? An analysis of underlying bigotry and racism in America Austin C. Kuhn The Shape of the Modern World – FYS112–H1A Dr. James MacLeod Friday, September 23, 2016 What is the Signifigance of the Candidacy of Donald Trump? The election of 2016 has seen rise to a number of strong, semi–radical opinions and ridiculous jokes (mostly created and spreaded online). These jokes range from the "accusation" that Ted Cruz is the zodiac killer (Dean) to Hillary Clinton's pneumonia (Denisova). But perhaps the scariest thing to spring from this election is the Republican Donald Trump. A candidate who the press refused to take seriously in the early days of his campaign who has become the Republican's nominee for President of the United States. But the most fascinating aspect of this nomination is the question of how Trump, when the majority of Republican party leaders oppose him, managed to secure his place on the ticket. Further, it brings into question how bigotry in today's society parallels that of the anti–integration movement in the 1960's. Over time the way a Presidential campaign is run has evolved and changed, and who has the power in a race has shifted. Beginning in 1960, public image was taken to a whole new level. The first televised debate between Nixon and Kennedy revolutionized how a candidate had to perform– the public had a clear split. As the story goes, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. A Narretive Essay: One Last Time In "One Last Time," Gary Soto talks about how he grew up in an immigrant family, and to make money had to work the fields. He talks about how the menial jobs made him feel and what he thought of them. I may not be able to relate to the immigrant laborer part of the story. I understand what it's like to come from very little but still think that some things are not worth doing just to get something if it will make you feel like less than you are. Soto goes into great detail about his time picking grapes and cotton, but he doesn't really go into as much detail about why he feels the way he does. I feel that even though he talks about being a laborer and how he felt, it can be understood by many different types of people. I think that it is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Soto describes how after working in the grape field that although he had earned the money he felt like a "Mexican." He eventually decided he'd rather go without new clothes for school than continue to do a job that he felt was beneath him. I have held many jobs that I thought were beneath me but unlike Soto I was never willing to walk away simply because of that. I have learned over the years that although I may not like the job if it will help me to reach my goal than it is not beneath me. We are only limited by what we allow to limit us. Although there are a multitude of differences between our worlds, like the way we grew up and the differences in our heritage. There are also many similarities that help me to relate to Soto and his experience. I do wish that I could have seen more of why he felt that the jobs he was doing made him feel like he was doing something that he shouldn't have to do. As I reflect on the story Soto tells I think about how I could have decided not to do something only to find that I can't get back what I did. While Soto did eventually return to the grape fields not everyone has the opportunity to go back and make what they think is a bad situation better. I think that the point of his essay was to express his point that no matter what we have to strive for excellence and settle for nothing less than what we feel we deserve. • 31. Forrest Gump Analysis Forrest Gump is a romantic, historical drama that follows the protagonist, Forrest Gump, on his wild adventures throughout the world, where he is a hero time and time again despite having the measly IQ of 75. Although the audience is entranced with all of the success that Forrest garners (as a ping pong champion, Medal of Honor recipient, tycoon of a shrimping business and much more), Forrest himself is always focused on his love for Jenny, his first childhood friend that steals his heart. The script spans decades, as Forrest grows from a challenged child to proud father, time and again meeting up with Jenny. Forrest is always forward with his love for Jenny, yet she does not let herself be with Forrest, as she is enveloped with her love for the limelight and fame. As the story progresses, Forrest continues to recount his continued success, while snippets of Jenny slowly show her downward spiral as she struggles to be involved with the life of a hippy, stripper, and then a hardcore drug abuser. It is only after Forrest Gump returns home after the death of his mother that Jenny returns to their childhood home of Greenbow, Mississippi and stays with Forrest. After a night of love making, Jenny again slips out of Forrest's life, but this time with a newfound light in her face, as if she has risen from her rock bottom state. • 32. The Problem Of Contagion And Its Effect On The Contagion... Contagion is defined as the relationship that exists in returns above and afar the economic essentials like exposure to common international risk factors (Cai & Wong, 2010 p. 10). To control the possible effects of frequent exposure to necessities in enhancing the contagion correlation, the research will filter the country's index returns for familiar exposures. The filtering will define the deviations from the predictable correlation in proceeds based on the economic fundamentals. The research will regress the returns of every nation individually using some variables using a regression model. Testing for the worst return contagion To capture the cross–border contagion in proceeds, the research will utilize the value approach that will test whether the trial observations in the filtered returns are related across nations. Trial observations are the filtered returns in the lower deciles of a nation's time series allotment over the whole sample period. The research will use the logit model to tackle the problem of contagion by approximating whether a specified nation is more expected to have the worst return in a specified week, restricted to other countries having as well experienced the worst return in the preceding week. The dependent variable is an indicator variable that is set to one in case the local nation index under study has a weekly return in the lower deciles of every weekly proceeds for that nation and zero otherwise (Morrison & White, 2013 p. 645). • 33. Failure of the Revolution in Animal Farm Essays The animals in the book "Animal Farm" hoped to achieve unity, equality. trust/truth, prosperity, better quality of life, freedom and individuality, in terms of the revolution. This was achieved at the beginning of the revolution, which made it a success, but in the end the revolution was a failure. The farm, in many ways, was very prosperous when the revolution began. The animals were given an education, "the reading and writing classes were however a great success," which made them feel equal to the humans because they were now learning in the same way the humans did. The farm was becoming more prosperous in that, " everyone worked according to their own capacity," which made the farm a happier place to work in, and the more work was ... Even when the animals received no orders, " without waiting for further orders, they charged forth in a body," they unified to fight the enemy and protect their home. The animals quality of life, did also improve for a little while. They were able to be their own bosses, " no more Jones," and worked for themselves. Since they were now motivated, they worked harder, " worked according to their own capacity," thus the amount of food they received increased since they did not have to sell it. This all went very well for a while, but the revolution then took a drastic downfall. The animal's freedom and individuality was slowly taken away. Napoleon took the dogs freedom away by "making them bow, " and obey him only. The animals also began to have no freedom of speech, " raised their voices timidly but they were promptly silent by a tremendous growling," which shows us that the farm was no longer run by all the animals but rather by the pigs, anything they say is right and you may not argue. The animals no all had to be the same, which can be taken as equality, but it was taken to the extreme. The animals had to call each other, "comrade," and they weren't even allowed to stick out in the smallest ways, " Molly's ribbons were taken," which was fine at first but then slowly the animals started forgetting who they were. I live in the past and believe that Cindy Crawford is by far the best supermodel. That's my life." (p.20) This is a sentence that I feel really shows who Ed is at the beginning. He more or less does the same thing every day in sort of a monotone way. Throughout the cards and difficulties that Ed goes through, we really start to see a person emerging out of Ed. We see someone who is feeling and hoping and living. "In a flood inside me....three minutes straight." (pg.351) This change that we see in Ed happens progressively. Each card and task that is given to Ed brings out something in him that in the beginning we didn't see often. During the first chapter it doesn't seem that Ed has a lot of fears. When we were first introduced to him during the bank robbery scene I perceived him to be quite stupid. Then, we got to know him a little more and I saw that he was afraid, afraid of not doing anything with his life. "Just prior to the bank robbery, I'd been taking stock of my life. • 36. What Instrument Was Best For Me Jazz Standards Music isn 't just what I do, it 's who I am, and who I've always been. I play twelve instruments. Some fluently, some only a singular note or, maybe a song. This all started out in sixth grade when I could not decide what instrument was best for me. I started out my first two months of middle school by switching from instrument to instrument. I began with the oboe, and a week later, I changed to percussion. Only then, did I attempt to play all of the brass instruments–– and I mean all of them–– trumpet, french horn, tuba, trombone, and baritone, you name it, and I've probably played it. Next, I moved on to all of the woodwinds, flutes, clarinets, and all of the saxophones. Again, I cycled through the percussion instruments once again. Finally, I decided that I would rather play notes on a staff than beat something with a stick. I was forced, by my very irritated band teacher, to pick one of the two that I was better at, the alto saxophone or the trumpet. Two completely different musical instruments in two completely different musical families. Of course, as an indecisive twelve year old, I could not pick. Mr. Deneen, a woodwind player himself, chose the alto saxophone. The alto saxophone has stuck with me for many years–– six, to be exact. My sixth grade year I became really good at playing my saxophone. I went from indecisiveness to first chair in a matter of weeks. In fact, I was so talented that I was moved up into the eighth grade band as a sixth grader. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Songs In Animal Farm Knowing the correct information One of the main theme in Animal Farm was the use of power in order to control animals in lower class. This theme was seen through Napoleon's control of songs, propaganda by Squealer, and intimidation. Animals who were not literate were exploited by the upper class, pigs. Animal Farm used the songs to control animals in lower class by upper class. The songs were "Beasts of England" and "Comrade Napoleon". At first the animals sang a song "Beast of England"after Sunday's meeting, "The Meeting always ended with the singing of 'Beasts of England', and the afternoon was given up to recreation." (Orwell. 31), this was so effective to control animals because they deepened their unity by singing and increased awareness animals. Animal Cruelty Investigator Research Paper Animal Cruelty Investigator What I Knew Being an Animal Cruelty Investigator has been something that has interested me for a long time since I came across the show "Animal Cops." I know a few things about this career. First, I know that it can be at times a very dangerous job not just because of the mistreated animals, but because of the crazy people too. From encountering an abused animal that only knows a life of punishment and horrible training they can be skittish and scared causing them to lash out at any point. The humans on the other hand who have hurt these animals are bad people and deserve time in jail, which they can't accept causing them to also lash out at any point just like the animals may. I also know that it involves a lot of patience, staying calm and decent communication skills.
