1. Chris Gadner Movie Reflection
In addition, intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation plays an important role on influencing
Chris Gardner to pursue happiness in life in the movie. Intrinsic motivation is a kind of motivation
that is driven by an interest or enjoyment in oneself. For instance, Gardner meets Jay Twistle, a
manager for Dean Witter Reynolds and impresses him by solving a Rubik's Cube during a short taxi
ride. He never know that this attitude can earn him a chance to become the intern of Dean Witter. He
solve the Rubik's Cube is just due to his own sake, regardless of any external reward. We can also
saw the intrinsic motivation exist in his son, Christopher, he was so excited when Chris bring him to

When Chris Gardner passed through Dean Witter, he saw every of the stockbrokers there had a
happy face when they walked out from the office. Chris Gardner was interested about the extrinsic
rewards which is the happiness and the money that the stockbrokers own. He wished to be as
happier as like them and earn a lot of money so that he could be able to solve his financial problem.
He worked very hard and never give up on finding ways to earn money. We can see these evidences
clearly in the movie. The scene when he was painting his apartment and then got arrested and had to
spend the night in jail for unpaid parking tickets, he was supposed to have an interview for the intern
role the next morning. He could have decided that there wasn't any point going to the interview, he
had spent the night in jail, he hadn't had a bath, he wasn't appropriately dressed, he still had on the
clothes he had on while painting which had paint stains all over it, he had very valid excuses not to
show up for that interview. However, he put all his excuses aside and went to the interview anyway
because his general motivation and the extrinsic motivation which is money which strongly

Life is a struggle for the single father Chris Gardner known as Will Smith. He and his young son
known as Jaden Christopher Syre Smith got evicted from their apartment with no place to go. The
Pursuit Of Happiness directed by Gabrielle Muccino. The Pursuit Of Happiness was released in
2006 and it is 117 minutes long. The genre of the movie is Biography and drama. The important
theme in this movie is about the American Dream. It is a very common dream that we all share. The
dream is to being successful and happy. To fulfill that dream in America you need to have courage
and the abilities to achieve your dream.
The Pursuit Of Happiness is based on a true story about a man called Chris Gardner. Chris Gardner
is a great example for somebody that wants to Pursuit his American Dream. " The Pursuit Of
Happiness " is about how Chris Gardner is willing to make sure he achieves his happiness. For
living, Chris Gardner is a salesman who sells bone density scanners. Eventually he figured out that
nobody wanted to buy it because it is a luxury device in the medical business. Sometime in the
beginning of the movie, there is a scene where we see Chris Gardner approaching and trying to talk
to Mr.Twistle. We see a long shot of them both which shows us that they both are dressed in suits,
which means that they both might be office workers. The long shot then drifts and became a mid
shot. The director could have purposely done that to show that Mr.Twistle is in a hurry and has no
time to speak with Chris. Chris Gardner and Mr.Twistle got in the same cab. While they are in the
same taxi together, we see that Chris is talking to Mr.Twistle but the close up of Mr.Twistle's face
shows that he's not interested in what Chris is saying. This is because Twistle is just playing with a
Rubik's cube. We then see an over the shoulder shot which shows that it could mean that Chris is
desperately wanting to talk to Mr.Twistle. Mr.Twistle then says to Chris "I'm sorry, this thing is
impossible." The extreme close up of Chris's face shows that he is determined to do whatever it
takes to talk to Mr.Twistle . Again, in the taxi part of the scene we are only really shown mid shots

9. Pursuit Of Happyness Movie Analysis
The movie, "The Pursuit of Happyness" is a film based on a true story of Chris Gardner, where Will
Smith shines a tale of rags–to–riches filled with love, family, and outcome of the American dream.
Chris Gardner is an American businessman, investor, stockbroker, motivational speaker, author, and
philanthropist. Based on this real–life story of Chris Gardner, Will Smith takes the role of
Christopher Gardner, who was a salesman struggling to satisfy the needs of his wife, Thandie
Newton, and their son, Jaden Christopher Syre Smith. With the financial problems, his wife gives up

many burdensome ways. It exhibits how Chris Gardner becomes homeless in the beginning of the
movie, but later he becomes a successful dream achiever after putting all his hard work.

being paid during the course, the firm is to choose one of the twenty interns to work with the

13. Police Pursuits
Dangers of Police Pursuits
January 2006 Abstract
Debate rages over whether high–speed pursuits are justified. And consensus is growing among local
and national law enforcement for the need for stricter controls to dictate when, where and why
police engage in such potentially deadly car chases.
The written pursuit policies of 47 state law enforcement agencies and the nation's 25 largest cities
were subjected to comparative analysis. Qualitative analysis of the policies focused on factors
justifying pursuit, physical operation of the police vehicle, circumstances of operation, and external
factors. The policies also were rated quantitatively on a continuum ranging from allowing officers a
great deal of judgment in the conduct of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Picayune Item) Research indicates that pursuits become dangerous quite quickly. For example, 50
percent of all pursuit collisions occur in the first 2 minutes of the pursuit, and more than 70 percent
of all collisions occur before the sixth minute of the pursuit. In order for a universal police policy to
work, the policies and procedures must have no loopholes. The policy must clearly state what the
role of the police officer is regarding pursuits. A police chief must make it very clear that any
attempt to violate the policy and procedures will have serious consequences. This is the first step in
reducing the risks of pursuits. Supervisors play a very crucial role in this issue. A police supervisor
is usually the one that has more experience on the job. Ideally, once a pursuit has begun, the patrol
officer shall inform his supervisor the nature of the chase. When the supervisor feels that the pursuit
has become too risky, it's his call to end the pursuit. Experience is the most important component
that a supervisor possesses over the patrol officer in this situation.
Another thing to consider about having universal pursuit policy is that both police officers and
supervisors must consider: the nature of the violation (e.g., traffic offense, felony); the
characteristics of the area (e.g., freeway, commercial, residential); the traffic conditions (e.g.,
congested or not congested); and the weather conditions (e.g., wet or dry). This

17. Compare Amour Et Psych, Enfants And The Pursuit Of Happyness
he painting Amour et Psyché, enfants is an oil painting by William Adolphe created in 1890 and the
motion picture "the Pursuit of Happyness" by Steven Conrad both effectively convey the power of
love in a time of despair. In this paper, I will argue that both Amour et Psyché, enfants and "The
Pursuit of Happyness" both communicate how the role of love plays into overcoming hardships. In
the following paragraphs, we will consider the inspirations, scenery, techniques used to convey the
mood and the stories behind these artworks that shed light in the depiction of love within and after
sorrow. Furthermore, within these two pieces of painted and cinematic artwork, the inspirations that
sparked their creation help you to understand that both of the creators are trying to interpret a
different way of communicating love. Hence, this gives us a better understanding of what the pieces
are trying to portray. Amour et Psyché enfants was inspired by a story written by Apuleius, Cupid
and Psyche were one of Bouguereau's favorite myths, and he painted it quite often. He was inspired
by the prominence of peace and love that prevails after enduring hardships. Likewise, he was also
inspired by the innocence and purity of Jr which he symbolized in the style in which he painted. For
example, the way he chose to paint the children is well thought out and meaningful. Their pale skin
is luminous and has a rosy complexion to symbolize their purity. On the other, The event that

21. Analysis Of The Pursuit Of Happiness
Will Smith, in the Pursuit of Happyness, strives to show audiences across the globe what it takes to
maximize one's own utility (happiness) in a capitalistic nation. The movie depicts the difficulties
Will faces in a capitalistic society, when he loses everything he has worked for his whole life. The
movie takes us through his struggles of losing his job, house, and girlfriend, but not his pursuit of
happiness. The movie has many economic lessons; such as capitalism, budget deficits,
unemployment rates, and most importantly how to overcome all of those obstacles to maximize
utility (happiness) and reach the "American Dream." The movie, The Pursuit of Happiness, inspired
by real life experiences, begins when Chris Gardner, played by actor Will Smith, a capitalist
entrepreneur loses all of his money due to an investment deal gone bad. Chris and his girlfriend
Linda, along with their five year old son, live together in small apartment in San Francisco. Linda,
who is now working double shifts at a factory, begins to shame Chris for not being able to provide
for their family. Meanwhile, Chris is determined to get an internship with Dean Witter, a stockbroker
firm on Wall Street, but Linda ridicules him because of his lack of education. The once loving
couple, begins to face many financial struggles that eventually puts an immense strain on their
relationship. Soon Linda wants out, she packs her bags and leaves. In one of the scenes of the

There are virtually an unlimited amount of aspects about police work that places them in harm's way
every day. Some of which officers are trained to mitigate and exercise some form of control over
while others are mostly out of police control. Vehicle pursuit is one instance where police have little
control over and thus must adopt a mostly reactionary response rather than a proactive approach.
Police officer training and preparation for such pursuits are conducted during their initial phases of
training and some receive advanced Emergency Vehicle Operational and Control (EVOC) training
that they will bring back to their respective agencies to provide training for the rest of their fellow
officers. This is only in response to an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

29. The Pursuit Of Happiness In The Great Gatsby By F. Scott...
Throughout the year, I have learned multiple things and gained a whole new perspective about the
pursuit of happiness from our exploration of American Literature this year. From every piece of
literature we read, the overall goal was to have someone pursue their happiness in their own way. I
learned that someone's happiness might be different than another person's happiness and that's okay.
Each individual has their own dreams and goals, but overall, everyone has one goal in mind. That is
to achieve happiness in their life.
One piece of literature that is a prime example of the pursuit of happiness is The Great Gatsby.
Throughout the novel, many of the characters were trying to pursue happiness. Jay Gatsby, for
example, was trying to win Daisy over again. He wanted to recreate the past when he was happily in
love with her. Gatsby went to great lengths to interest Daisy and grab her attention. Gatsby was in
love, but the only way he could be truly happy is if he had Daisy to himself. Gatsby threw elaborate
parties at his mansion that he built all for Daisy. Once Gatsby finally started gaining ... Show more

33. Analysis Of 'Does Trying To Be Happy Make Us Unhappy'
In Adam Grant's essay entitled "Does Trying to Be Happy Make Us Unhappy" , in the first sentence
the author claims that in the pursuit of happiness that many try to achieve, that path tends to have the
inverse effect and actually make one unhappy. The author does this with the use of studies that
directly correlate with a story of an individual by the name of Tom, and his struggles in life due to
him focusing on trying to be happy, and that making him unhappy in due. The author starts with this
to draw in readers to understand what it is that the essay will be discussing in future paragraphs. In
the beginning of Adam's essay he stars by leading off with the claim that will be continued to be
fought to be proven throughout the entire essay. The claim is that "the more value that people place
on happiness, the less happy they became". He then uses the rest of the second paragraph and the
third to tell the story of a man named Tom, a man who is trying to find happiness. The story goes
that Tom became obsessed with happiness, longing for a career and a culture that would provide the
perfect match for his interests and values. After Tom had graduated from college he moved to
several different states and countries including New York, London,Behind,Germany, Montreal, and
Pittsburgh. The use of this long story is to give plenty of evidence to work towards in further
paragraphs and points to help drive the point. This story is also uses a common technique to give a
single extreme story so it seems as though this is the most common occurrence. The overall main
purpose of this chunk of paragraphs was to give an example that could be dissected and pasted
around using the points that would later be focus points in later paragraphs. After telling the story of
Tom, Adam begins to dissect the story by stating the hook of there being four primary different
mistakes that Tom had made. He follows that by stating the leading point of the paragraph by stating
"The first blunder was in trying to figure out if he was happy. When we pursue happiness, our goal
is to experience more joy and contentment". This line will drive the rest of the paragraph into the
explanation of the point made. It begins with the author's idea on how

African Americans have to strive extremely hard to be successful and obtain a place in America.
When reading Baldwin's statement it seems much like Martin Luther King Jr. statement: "One
hundred years later, the Negro is still languishing in the corners of American society and finds
himself an exile in his own land"(3). African Americans are trying to obtain their place in American
society but are restricted to the area that the white Americans set aside for them. Both Martin Luther
King Jr. and James Baldwin are striving to make a difference to better America by publicly sharing
their emotions.
Indeed Baldwin's letter expressed public awareness but it also consisted of personal elements that
only his nephew was intended to understand. "You can only be destroyed by believing that you
really are what the white world calls a nigger" (Baldwin 243). This statement illustrates the pain that
Baldwin feels deep inside. When a person calls someone a nigger it lowers their self–worth and
causes them thoughts of despair. The white society can be hurtful to African Americans by
underestimating what they say. When someone is constantly being called a nigger they start to
believe that they really are what they have always been called. When a person believes they are a
nigger they lower their goals and ostracism thinking that they are not accepted and they will never
be. Situations like this are hard to grasp unless one lives them like Baldwin did. The fact that

41. The Need to Belong Essay
It is an inherent part of human nature to want to belong
Belonging as defined by the Oxford dictionary is a multifaceted concept, yet being every
individual's inherent desire to belong. Belonging is a universal concept. Those who don't find a
sense of belonging are certain to find themselves under the destructive cycle of isolation and self–
alienation. Peter Skrzynecki's "Immigrant Chronicles" serves to highlight the basic fundamental
desire to belong and the importance it holds on each individual. This notion is further explored with
Skrzynecki's poems "St Patrick's College", "Feliks Skrzynecki" and Gabrielle Muccino's 21st
century film "Pursuit of Happyness". The notion of belonging being an inherent part of human

Feliks Skrzynecki is the persona's father and is expressed as a barrier to his belonging as he couldn't
connect to their Polish culture. There is use of possessive pronouns throughout the poem to
demonstrate the inheritance of belonging from father and _____, "My father". Although this shifts
overtime from "my" to "his", the use of the pronoun "his" reveals dislocation and disconnectedness
between the persona and his father. The protagonist felt a disconnection with his father, but desired
to belong, but couldn't find that connection and a strong sense of belonging. Inheritance of human
nature to belong is explicitly explored within 10 Mary Street. This poem reveals how pure
connection to birth place, locality amongst family extensively initiates belonging and the sense of
adhesiveness and connectedness. The persona describes his home and his parents sense of belonging
through their "beloved garden". There's a symbol of importance of belonging through their garden.
"Grew rows of Carneilla and rows of sweet corn", emphasizing ownership and a pleasant sense of
imagery. "Like a bird, eating pumpkins – I promised myself I'd lay off". The symbolism of a bird
resembles a sense of freedom within their placing. Belonging being an inherent part of human nature
is explored within Gabrielle Muccino's 21st Century film "pursuit of happyness". This film reveals
great meaning and one's desire to belong. The protagonist, Chris Garner,

"Don't ever let somebody tell you... You can't do something."(the pursuit of happyness). The
"Pursuit of Happyness" is a film, directed by Gabriele Muccino in 2006, that is based on a true story.
Chris and Christopher Gardner, "Evicted from their apartment, [found] themselves alone with no
place to go. Even though Chris eventually lands a job as an intern at a prestigious brokerage firm,
the position pays no money. The pair must live in shelters and endure many hardships, but Chris
refuses to give in to despair as he struggles to create a better life for himself and his son."
(wikipedia). In this film, the director targetes any individual who has ever endured hardships in their
life or know someone who has ever prayed to have enough money to support themselves, because
they can relate to this human struggle. This movie lets individuals know that eventually if they make
continuous efforts life will improve and circumstances in life can be changed through an individual's
free will. Through the main character, played by Will Smith, the director is able to utilize the
fictional version of Chris Gardner's persistence, emotional breaks, and way of thinking to relay the
message of perseverance through to the audience.

Everyone has a dream, but not everyone has the courage to pursue their dream because of the fear of
failing. "Blue–Collar Brilliance" by Mike Rose and "The Pursuit of Happyness" directed by
Gabriele Muccino discusses where dedication takes a person in life. In the article of "Blue–Collar
Brilliance" Rose, discusses the life of two successful individuals who have no education but are very
dedicated to their work. "The Pursuit of Happyness" discuss the life of a struggling man who is not
able to support his family, but never leaves the hope of one day becoming successful. "Blue–Collar
Brilliance" and "The Pursuit of Happyness" share a common theme of, it does not matter whether a
person has an education or not; it takes a lot of dedication to succeed. Both authors claim that
everyone can be successful in their job as long as a person has patience and dedication. Composer
Rose and Muccino both make an effective argument about dedication to their audience by providing
real life experiences of an individual.
The similarities between "Blue–Collar Brilliance" and The Pursuit of Happyness is to get their
audience to see what a person goes through in order to be where they are at now. Authors Rose and
Muccino have a very strong pathos by providing life experiences of individuals. The Pursuit of

often having serious consequences and the outcome often far from ideal. It is due to these less than

This quote highlights one of the main issues relating to high speed pursuits, whether any possible
apprehension is worth the risk to everyone involved. Who are the offenders, what crimes have they
committed and why were they chased are questions that need to be asked to gain an understanding
of whether the risk the offender posed to the community was greater than what risk the actual
pursuit itself caused. Two Australian reports researching police pursuits both concluded that the
majority of offenders involved in pursuits were young males and one quarter to one third were under
the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of apprehension (Hoffmann & Mazerolle, 2005) (ACT
Department of Justice and Community Saftey, 2007), this is in line with criminology teachings
stating young males are the most likely to participate in criminal or deviate behaviour (Siegel,
2008).
A recent Queensland report into police pursuits found only a small amount of people involved in
high speed chases were apprehended for crimes any more serious in nature then that what was
already known at the time the police initiated the chase. In contradiction to popular belief that
offenders flee from the police as they are guilty of a more serious offence this same study

Police chases are one of the most captivating spectacles to observe. Television programmers cannot
get enough of them, while the reality of them is more controversial. The reasons people run from the
police are innumerable, as to why the police pursue is and should be more calculated. Most people
concede that a police pursuit involving a murder, bank robber, or a kidnapper, should be undertaken.
Nonetheless, the debate remains about whether or not the police should pursue those who have only
committed minor crimes, such as property, traffic, or nonviolent offenses, verses those more
substantial crimes. Due to the unpredictability of pursuing criminals, police officers should be

The human condition may dictate whether or not the person being chased can stop at all, from their
natural instinct to not get caught. The data shows overall that most police pursuits do not involve the
general public. Statistically, the numbers show that the risk to the public for injuries and death are
low, however the impact of the innocent bystanders getting hurt or killed is devastating, even one is
too many. The numbers also show that most criminals run for mostly minor criminal acts and traffic
violations; proving the possible consequences of injuries to the public does not justify the benefit of
capturing most of these violators. Moreover, agencies do not provide officers with the proper
training for such high stress and demanding events, such as these pursuits. Most, if not almost all
suspects can be found at a later time, enhancing the safety of the motoring and pedestrian public. If
agencies were held to a higher standard, it would ultimately create a safer situation for the public as

69. Summary Of Blink By Malcolm Gladwell Blink
In Chapter 2 of "Blink" by Malcolm Gladwell, Gladwell insist that "what we think of as freewill is
largely an illusion: much of the time, we are simply operating on automatic pilot, and the way we
think and act – and how we think and act on the spur of the moment – are a lot more susceptible to
outside influences than we realize." (58). Gladwell is referring to priming, as human beings, our
behavior and decision making are often influenced by subtle triggers we are either aware of or not
aware of. As humans we are vulnerable to the most subtle stimuli. Gladwell provides examples of
priming with different types of exams and games administered to college students. An area where
priming occurs on a daily occurrence is at the grocery store because the products sold are
strategically placed on the shelves to target a specific audience company's want to sell their product
to, the price tag are designed with colors that we associates subconsciously with spending, and there
are signs located all around the store that tell you that you'll be saving money so that you buy more
of that certain product or so you are more likely to shop at that particular store. Priming is when
subtle triggers we are either aware of or not aware of influence our behavior. Gladwell has the
reader imagine that he is a professor proctoring a scrambled–sentence test where students were
asked to walk down a long hallway into an exam room where they were given an exam with a list of
five–word sets and asked to change each word set into a grammatically four–word sentence as fast
as possible. The test was not difficult but the college students walked down the hallway more slowly
than they walked towards the classroom. This is because ingrained in the list were certain words that
were associated with being old. This test, which was developed by a clever psychologist named John
Bargh, makes our adaptive unconsciousness ponder about the state of being old. Further research
suggests that individuals can be primed to behave differently, various words may be used to
influence people to be polite or rude. Malcolm Gladwell demonstrates how a simple scramble–

English Speech – The Pursuit of Happyness The Journey movie I chose to talk about is The Pursuit
of Happyness. It is an inner journey. The movie starts off showing the scenery – the Golden Gate
Bridge, an American flag and the crowded busy street full of business people and the homeless. The
camera then focuses on Chris Gardener and his son Christopher. Chris says throughout the movie
the 6 stages of his life. It starts off with 'Riding the bus'. In 'Riding the bus' we learn that he lives in
an apartment with his partner Glenda and son and that he sells portable bone density scanners to
make a living, however they are quite hard to sell as they are seen as unnecessary – a luxury item.

Stage 4 is 'Internship' and yes Chris got it and now starts his 6month internship. He gets told that
generally the one who brings in the most money for the company gets hired. He starts off as very
unappreciated as he was the one who was always asked to buy coffee and donuts for his bosses. He
is also disadvantaged, as he has to leave the office at 4pm to pick up Christopher when everyone
else stays back till 7pm. Later on he manages to get a meeting with Walter Ribbon that if it goes
well he could get the company lots of money but he is forced to run an errand for his boss, which
consequently makes him miss his interview with Walter. The next day he goes to Walter's house to
apologise for missing the meeting. Walter invites him and Christopher to the NFL game. He tries to
convince Walter to come to Dean Witter but Walter says no but Chris meets plenty of other people
interested in Dean Witter. Chris had now sold all his scanners after 4 months, he felt like things were
going okay. Until he reaches the 5th stage of his life – 'Paying taxes'. The government had sent him
a letter saying that he was way overdue in paying his taxes and that they had taken the money he
owed out of his bank account only leaving him with $21.33 left. He takes Christopher to the park
when he spots a man with his machine that he had left on the station. He manages to get it back and

81. Kid Caudi The American Dream Essay
"Pursuit of Happiness (Nightmare)" by Kid Cudi Fame and happiness is a major desire in today's
society. The journey to achieve immense happiness is not always the prettiest and may not produce
the life one desires. Kid Cudi expertly describes the struggle of finding happiness in the hit rap song,
"Pursuit of Happiness (Nightmare)." The song begins with Cudi describing his journey of happiness.
It starts with the lyrics "Crush a bit, little bit, roll it up, take a hit. Feelin' lit, feelin' light, 2 am
summer night." "Kid Cudi describes a virtual experience making life about getting intoxicated or
high, and glamorize the effects these substances have. The lyrics insist that these substances are
necessary for this pursuit of happiness Kid Cudi is on," (Rhetoric and Pop Culture). Many young
people today struggle with the perception that drugs and alcohol will bring bliss. Next, in the verse it
says, "hand on the wheel, driving drunk I'm doing my thang." "The singer knows this lifestyle will
result in him burning out too fast," (LyricsMode). He is doing activities that in the moment will
bring him happiness, but in the long run will be destructive. ... Show more content on

other people think of his idea of "happiness." The song goes on to say "If I fall, if I die, I know I

85. My Views On My Life
Everyone has their own unique beliefs and motives that push them through their lives. I have many
different beliefs instilled in me that mold my day to day life. These beliefs have been formed either
by learning from my parents, or by personal experiences. One major conviction of mine is the
pursuit of happiness. There are many ways to strive for happiness, and all people are unique in the
fact that no one shares the same goals. My happiness comes from a core of beliefs. Religion is an
extremely important part of my life, and I can thank my mother and father for that. Another belief of
mine is that hard work pays off; in many situations I have been shown that a good work ethic goes a
long way in being successful. I also believe in being an optimist throughout life's trials and
tribulations. Many things can upset me in day to day experiences; however, I believe it to be crucial
to obtain a joyous attitude. These beliefs have become priorities to me and carry me through my life,
and help me to succeed.
To begin with, religion is one aspect of my life that I could not be happy without. My brothers and I
have formed this conviction in the Lord from being taught the right way. My father is the minister at
Sims Hill Christian Church and he has always taken us to every church service held as long as we
were able. It has always been a priority in the Jones' household to read the Bible and to present
ourselves in the correct manner. Without God, the pursuit of happiness

89. What is Home? Essay
What is home? If one looks in a dictionary the answer would come out to be, "The place where one
lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household." However, for anyone who has
had an actual home, they would know that such a term goes much beyond its concrete description. It
is an impassioned aspect filled with values and foundation of nurturing. A home is not just an abode
built to live in; in fact, that is just a definition of a house. Home is a place where one not only feels
comfortable, but a place they look forward to opportunely live in every day. A home is built not by
bricks or wood, but with the bond of family. A home is a place that reminds a person of countless
memories and values when he walks through a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Family is what makes a house a home; this statement is undeniably precise. A person could have
every material entity in the entire world, but it would mean nothing if he does not have someone to
share it with. In other words, home is also semantically related to sharing the happiness, grief, and
material things with one's family. A home gives people a place to care about the people that mean
the most to them. It is a place to tell amusing tales, a good story, or make memorable memories with
one another. Furthermore, home is more than a place; it is a feeling. It is a feeling of contentment
and happiness that they share with the ones they love. Moreover, home is when one knows they are
with people that can drive them insane in a second, and the same people can make them happy in a
second as well. Home means that no matter what one is going through, no matter how challenging
life gets, there will be someone looking out for them. One knows that a place is their home when
they are comfortable enough to present a true description of themselves, because they know that
they will receive definitive acceptance. It is a sanctuary for them where they can do anything they
please and not be judged afterwards. It is where one can share the absurdity of their day without any
remorse or repercussions. The reason why people say that a person only has one true home is
because one will

93. Analysis Of The Book ' The Lady With The Dog '
Happiness is not something that can be attained through wealth, fame, or power; those are merely an
elision that is clouding people 's perspective of their own definition of happiness. While some
believe that it 's not achievable through that method, remember this, those people are not truly
happy, they are where they are by deceiving themselves and the people around them. In the short
story of "The Lady With The Dog" by Anton Chekhov, the main character illustrates a similar
situation where Dmitri Gurov believed that he has found his happiness when he met Anna, the lady
with the dog. On the other hand, the essay "We Have No Right To Happiness" by C.S. Lewis, states,
as the title suggest, that people have no right to attain happiness. ... Show more content on

Perhaps the feeling that he gets from his wife is what drives him to be that way to other women.
His wife is an intelligent and smart woman, yet Dmitri does not think so. The feelings he has toward
his wife are what made him be who he is, for "he secretly considered her unintelligent, narrow,
inelegant..." and "...was afraid of her and did not like to be at home." Additionally, that discomfort
that he feel at home and around his wife has caused him to be unhappy, whereby Goetz believes that
"Happiness is composed of pleasure that can and should accompany virtuous activity"(288). If there
is no pleasure in their relationship there is no happiness, so Dmitri thought outside of the box and
went to other women for affection and pleasure. As Lewis said in his essay, "one of the rights of
man is the rights of happiness," yet what draws Dmitri from his happiness is his wife (318). Lewis
states that a person has the right to look for his happiness in the world. Perhaps if Dmitri's wife were
a little more sincere to him and his feelings he would not have had to lean to have affairs, to begin
with. The point is his wife is the cause of his unhappiness, where he had no opportunity to be happy,
and so why bare her attitude toward Dmitri. Happiness is not something that naturally comes to a
person, it might appear to be, but the truth of the matter is that happiness comes through any lawful
means. A person can be partly

An individual's Pursuit of Happiness can be achieved in many ways. Throughout the year we have
read a good amount of literature that contains either characters pursuing happiness or the authors
themselves showing their own ways of pursuing their dreams. There are always ups and downs, but
the end result is people will follow what they believe will make them happy. Whether it is Gatsby
following Daisy, becoming rich for her and following her to New York, or it is George trying to find
a better life for him and Lennie, the end goal is the same. Even in The Crucible, John Proctor is

His wife is accused of witchcraft by a former maid whom he had an affair with, so she could have
him to herself. John then fights the sentence, calling the court's ridiculous and saying that the whole
thing is crazy and they're faking the accusations for attention. When he isn't believed, he tells the
court of their affair and says "I have made a bell of my honor! I have rung the doom of my good
name" (114). In this statement, Proctor has literally ruined his name, as having an affair back then
was a major crime. He confesses to the court so that they might realize why Abigail is trying to
accuse his wife of witchcraft. He sacrifices his pride and name in order to let his family survive, and
his wife has become the one good thing in his life besides his children, and he will do anything to
save her. At the end of the story, as he is going to hang, he says he will not tell a lie to save himself,

105. Happiness And How To Meaning Happiness : The State Of...
What do you think makes us happy? A question for everyone to determine at some point in their life.
As defined in Merriam–Webster (2017), happiness is a state of well–being and contentment; a
pleasurable or satisfying experience. However, happiness is hard to achieve like water or smoke, it
is there but it is impossible to hold in our hands. It can be as simple as being content with doing
what you love, and living the life you want or by being who you want to be. Some individuals even
go as far as to follow steps on how to achieve happiness. Happiness is a sensation that people desire
to have, and sometimes desperately wishes for. Everyone has a completely different view of
happiness and how to attain it. Some Individuals require money, material things, solitude and for
others it is companionship or helping someone, but the list can go on. People sometimes tend judge
their happiness based on what their career field is, what kind of car they drive, how many square
footages their home has and the area where their home is located. I believe that individuals can be
happy within unhappiness when we have an absolute knowledge and understanding of what our
purpose is, we stop at nothing to attain and achieve what our heats desires; true happiness.
Happiness plays an important and necessary role in the lives of individuals all over the world.
Happiness has been firmly fixed in our consciousness since Thomas Jefferson wrote these famous

In Beowulf, selflessness is a big part of the story, Beowulf goes out and helps the people of another
place. He doesn't have to do it because he doesn't live there so if he didn't defeat Grendel it wouldn't
affect him either way. He does it though and not only defeats Grendel but also Grendel's mother
because she came after the people when her son was killed. Beowulf knew that if he didn't kill her
the people would still live in fear. That's what makes him selfless. He does things that need to be
done for others and not so much himself.
If you wanted to spot selflessness out you just need to look for certain things, are they quick to help

Based on the real life story of Chris Gardner, the Pursuit of Happyness looks at the crests and
troughs in Chris' life on his way to becoming a stock broker, and eventually as everyone knows, a
multi–millionaire. Will Smith played the role of Chris Gardner while Smith's son, Jaden Smith
played Gardner's 7 or 8–year–old son.
At one level, even though the movie is titled The Pursuit of Happyness (deliberately spelt wrong), it
is pretty depressing. Yes, the movie is supposed to focus on the struggles of the main protagonist as
he chases what seems like a chimerical dream. However, every time you think that things are going

To me that scene in the cab summed up the movie – try, try and try again. You have to determine all
the moves for yourself and you have to get it right. That is how one pursues happiness, and Chris'
life is a testimony to that.
All this is voiced in one way or other when Chris talks to his son in the movie. In one scene when
Chris is playing basketball with his son, he says he never made it as a basketball player and his son
wouldn't make it either. And just immediately after, he tells the kid, "Don't ever let someone tell you,
you can't do something. Not even me." Or at another time he says, "You got a dream, you gotta
protect it. People can't do something themselves, they wanna tell you that you can't do it. You want
something? Go get it. Gardner". And that's what Chris does – he gets out there, works himself out
and makes it – really makes it, giving hope to a lot of others like him. Not only does this scene voice
that people should focus of the strength of trying despite their failures but it also depicts the love
that parents have for their children can directly impact the children. This scene especially shows that
was parents say and do can have a direct effect on the children. By Chris telling his son to never let
anyone tell him he can not do something and that if he has a dream to go get it. These are strong
words that reflect what most parents wish to teach their children. To never

Critical Response: Death of a Salesman
The lives of the Loman's from beginning to end seems troubling, the play is centered on trying to be

The environment that these characters live in encourages them to pursue the American dream, which
can be said to devalue happiness through the pursuit of material success. Death of A Salesman
written by Arthur Miller has several themes that run through the play, one of the most obvious is the

It is often said that money cannot buy happiness. Money can buy the best of food and drink. It can
buy land and with enough it can even buy social status. The availability of monetary funds also
ensures that bills will be paid and that in and of itself reduces stress. Knowing all of this, the old
adage, money cannot buy happiness becomes questionable. Can money truly not buy happiness?
Anton Chekov's Yermolái Lopákhin and Leo Tolstoy's Ivan Ilyich are two fictional characters that
explore men of money and status. Each story and character are unique in various ways, but they
have glaring similarities. Ultimately, Lopákhin and Ilyich depict happiness as relative to the
individual and the result of their own actions. Lopákhin and Ilyich are both sociable men who turn
serious when a job related task is at hand. Lopákhin spends his spare time with the people at the
Cherry Orchard. He teases and utilizes sarcasm in conversation, but turns serious when speaking of
business matters. He does not take his work lightly. Ilyich plays takes great joy in playing bridge
after work hours with his friends. Illyich, like Lopákhin, is very serious about his work. Ilyich is
born to a ranking official. His family affords him the luxury of an education. He goes to law school
and later becomes a member of the court of justice. Lopákhin is born in a much lower status: his

situations. All those sleepless nights trying to think of ways to make money, then moving from one
homeless shelter to the next, and having to face his son everyday hoping that one day he would
understand, is something no one in our society should have to go through in order to live in a world
that is based off power and greed. Chris Gardner was an underrated African–American who lived an
underprivileged proletariat

Social stereotypes and happiness
The story of the movie The Pursuit of Happyness directed by Gabriele Muccino portrays a family
who struggles with finding enough money to pay taxes and afford living expenses. The movie takes
a place in San Francisco during the 80s. The two main characters are the father Chris Gardner and
his son Christopher, Will Smith and Jaden Smith respectively. Gardner tries to support his family.
But every time he attempts to make things better, they always end up worse. Gardner in the story
wonders on "how to be happy?" He earns his money by selling the bone density ... Show more

In another perspective, fatherhood for Gardner is like a job for him. Because he loses his wife, he
needs to provide joy, fun and help for his son Christopher which is not an easy job to do. Those
fathers, who spend more time with their children, have a better life than others who spend most of
their time working and gaining money. However, being a father as a single parent like Chris gives
him the enthusiasm to do his best and replace his wife's role to have a better life with his son. Yet,
this decreases the happiness that Gardner possesses. According to Scott Coltrane, a sociologist at the
University of California, points out that "Father's style of parenting has changed too. Fathers are
beginning to look more like mothers" (qtd. in Cullen and Grossman). Before Linda leaves the
family, she works double shifts to make more money to afford the living expenses and to help her
husband. So Chris is the one who takes more care of their son than the mother, Linda. Gardner
seems to be happier being close to his son. There are many scenes in the movie that show how
Gardner and Christopher are happy of being together. Nonetheless, there is only one scene that
Christopher not even misses his mother; instead he asks "did mom leave because of me?" (The
Pursuit of Happyness). This indicates that Gardner does a great job of being a single parent that
makes his son, not remembering his mother. For fathers, home

149. I Was A Woman For A Person, Who Was The Only One At The Time?
As I interacted with different people, I found one rather kind woman, who was the only one at the
time, accepted an invite to see a movie, once I understood she was a lesbian. I accepted any offer of
friendship. We had a curious dynamic, as she adopted me as her wingman. She helped ease my
isolation. It was an unusual adventure, as I entered a world that I was not a member. As a
heterosexual man who was clubbing with a lesbian, I was an unusual wingman. I improved my
social skills, observing her. The differences in our skills were pronounced. I could have asked a
comatose woman for a date, for her to wake her up long enough to reject me, while I thought she
could pick up a date at a funeral. It certainly was an interesting adventure, yet ... Show more content

The other was a group of artists, who welcomed anyone. They held that God was a made–made
construct following Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus," to be your own god or goddess. Be Your
Own Heaven ~ Fall 1988 Heaven is a ship in a bottle and every ship is new and unique. Passing
from this life to the next is simply to step from the corridor of life, to the room of your dreams that
is your world. It is the flip of a card in the deck of life that shows your true self not to others, but, to
the possibilities that make you. Be the captain of your unique dream and when you are unfettered
from this life, your dream is true that your truth is heaven. Following fantasy author Piers Anthony, I
was using my talent as a pointillist to begin designing my own five–suited Tarot deck, based on his
Tarot trilogy. Drinking coffee as I drew, more precisely, I dotted my paper with ink. I tended to have
people watch me work. They would watch for a short time, before wandering off. If I tried to engage
them in conversation, they tended to find something else to do. Simply put, I was a momentary
conversation piece, making me a talking "knick–knack". On one occasion, I was the one who
wanted to wander off. As I finished a card, someone new told me that I needed to stop immediately
what I was doing. When asked about why I was drawing something so offensive to Christianity so
close to Easter, I told this person in an off–the–cuff aside, "I had given up the Bible

153. Police Pursuits Essay
Imagine being a police officer doing your daily routine job. You are in a patrol car on the highway,
watching the cars and trucks drive by. You are also looking for speeders to warn them to be more
careful and maybe you'll ticket them. It has been a very boring day for you, since you have only
been called on your radio once, and it was for an accident (fender bender). Almost at the end of your
shift, a blue car drives by going ninety miles an hour, but you know the speed limit is only fifty–five
miles an hour. You pull the patrol car out of the gravel area that you had been sitting in and you start
to follow the car. You put your lights on and catch up to them. After a few minutes you pull the
person over. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ten people were killed due to police pursuits in 1998. "Of the ten fatalities, eight of the people were
drivers fleeing from police officers"(1998 Analysis, 1). And the other two deaths were people who
were not involved in the pursuit. The good thing for police officers is that none died during a pursuit
in 1998. Some people say that there should have been no fatalities, including the people fleeing from
the police officers. The majority of pursuits in the last four years that have had fatalities occur are
provoked by the fleeing driver and also injure passengers in that car and innocent bystanders.
There are a lot of the same problems that occur repeatedly when dealing with police pursuits. Most
of the time (around ninety percent of the time) police pursuits are generally triggered by a traffic
violation. These violations could be running a red light, driving without stopping at a stop sign, or a
speeding violation. Most likely, the driver in the pursuit is a young male, generally, under the age of
twenty–four. They usually have very poor driving records. In more than half of the cases of
attempted fleeing drivers, alcohol and driving under the influence plays a major role. Also, in most
fifteen percent of all pursuit cases, the drivers did not have a valid driver's licensee. Another
interesting reported fact is that "approximately half the offenders had at least one prior licensee
suspension on their records"(Nugent 6). Only three
