2. Front Cover
Colour: through my
research I found out that
indie music lovers like
pastel colours and also
neutral colours like black
and white. Other genres
like pop are more into
bolder colours like bright
pink and yellows
however I didnāt use
these on my cover
because they take away
from the main features
and distract the
audience. I also took
inspiration from another
cover which i looked at
from Foam magazine
which had similar colours
and was aimed at a
similar audience.
Fonts: The fronts that I
have used on the front
cover are varied to add
interest but arenāt too
different so that they donāt
take away form the main
interests. This links back to
my audience because indie
fans don't usually want to
attract too much attention,
they are more focused on
the music and donāt want
anything to get in the way.
However, the title is very
big and bold emulating a
typical t-shirt that an indie
fan would wear, possibly
supporting a particular
artist.
3. Contents Page
Images: The images on the
covers that I used on all
three covers portray a
typical indie lover. The
actions are moody and
sultry showing how indie
fans like to keep them
selves to them selves.The
clothes that they are
wearing are plain and
simple and donāt distract
from anything else on the
page. Leah is holding a
guitar which shows how
one of their interests and
passions is also music
which is stereotypically
correct.
Band Index: I have created
a band index on this page
which allows the audience
to find any particular
musician they ant within
the indie bracket. This
feature draws the fans in
and possibly even other
people because they will
be interested in discovering
new music. This is a
common feature within
Indie magazines such as the
NME and are used regularly
in issues.
4. Double Page Spread
Questions: The questions
that are in the main article
of the DPS are purposefully
tailored for my audience.
One of the questions
mentions āGlastoā meaning
glastonbury which is an
event that a very large
amount of indie fans go to
so this question, like the
others will apply and
interest them. One of the
question also mentions
āLondonā which represents
England and the UK which
is where many of the indie
fans come and originate
from. Other artists like
āEllie Gouldingā are also
mentioned which will
entice the audience and
attract them to the cover.
Ellie is an Indie Poop artist
and has shaved hair
showing her rebellious
side, linking her to the
genre.
Coherence of themes:
The house style of the
three covers is the same
throughout all three of the
covers which allows the
readers to be emerged in
the article and the images
rather than the fonts and
page numbers.Pop
magazines tend to focus on
qualities like page numbers
and titles more, mostly
because they have a
younger age group to
address.
