Masthead: The masthead is in a bright colour and
is the biggest font on the cover making it take up 3
fifth of the page .I did this so that it is noticeable to
the buyer. The colour pink is also a conventional
colour found in k-pop magazines which I
discovered in the previous research into k-pop
music magazines. In addition I put the Korean word
for Hallyu ( 한류) in the ‘U’ .As the audience will
know it is Korean therefore will identify it as a k-pop
magazine. Also through my research I found that
many of them had some Korean characters near
the Masthead therefore I did the same so that my
magazine followed the conventions of real media
products.
Main image: The main image is a
medium – long shot so you are able to see
what the artist is wearing , which is a top
with collars and a skirt. This is quite cute. I
found through my research into existing
k-pop magazine that this fits with the
image of female solo artists commonly
known to have cute, girly-like images.
Furthermore. My research showed me that
many k-pop magazine use medium close-
up or close-ups rather than medium long
shots. However I have rejected this
convention as I felt her body language
also further represents her as cute.
This shot allows you to see the facial
expression which is ‘bright’ making her
inviting which also represents the artist as
cute. The artists is giving eye contact t is as
if she is looking directly at you, drawing the
buyer ‘s attention to the magazine. This
further links to my genre as I found in my
research that artists t on the front cover
tend to make eye contact.
Cover lines: The cover lines all follow the colour
scheme of blue and pink. These colours link with
my genre as bright colours are generically found
in a k-pop magazine. Therefore through the use of
these colours my magazine would be identified as
a k-pop magazine. These colours also stand out
when placed on a white background, therefore
inviting the buyer’s attention. I made some font
bigger than others to show they are more/less
important drawing the buyer’s attention to the
more important information.
Rule of thirds: I didn't use the rule of thirds
too much as I felt the overall look of the
cover would look more appealing with the
artists in the middle rather than slightly to
the right, therefore I went against this
convention. However most of my text
remains on the left which follows and is the
most important therefore is placed on the
left because the buyer will notice it first.
Barcode + date and price: The barcode is
placed in the bottom right hand corner as I found
that this is where it is conventionally placed. The
date and price are also commonly found on the
right under the masthead therefore I placed them
there to follow the conventions of my genre. The
date and price are very small to not draw to much
attention from the buyer so that they can focus of
the rest of the cover.
Main Cover lines: The main cover line
‘LOU KIM EXCLUSIVE’ Is the largest cover
line to grab the buyer's attention ,as it
relates most to the main artist. It is mainly
in white to contract with her clothing
making it stand out even more. The main
cover line is placed directly under her
face. In k-pop you don’t normally see the
artists name so far up rather more
towards the bottom I have rejected this
convention ,as I felt it looked more
appealing where it is placed. And also
gives more focus on the artists face as
her body is more covered.
Colours: The colours pink and blue give a
feeling of youth which links with my target
audience (13-24 ) who are mainly youth
.These are generic colours therefore are
the right colours to use to target my
audience. The white used shows
innocence which links with the artists
image of cute and innocent.
Selling line: The selling line ‘Music Makes One’ is
placed under the masthead. I found in my market
research that the selling line is commonly placed
near the masthead .Furthermore each word is in a
different colour to match the colour scheme that
follows the conventions of a k-pop magazine.
Masthead: My masthead is the
biggest font drawing the reader’s
attention. The font is not the same as
my masthead on the front cover
therefore I am rejecting this convention
as I felt this font looked more appealing
on this page and also stands out more.
Main image: My main image is the
biggest to attract the reader to it
also it is places near the editorial
to show that it links with the image.
This is also suggested through her
body language as she is looking at
towards the text. This follows the
generic features of a k-pop
magazine as I found k-pop
magazine usually have the main
image as the largest image.
Colours: My colour scheme of
white, blue, black and white .By
using my colour scheme
throughout my magazine, allows
the reader to distinguish the genre
of the magazine. These colours are
generic colours used in k-pop
magazines.
Featured list: My featured list is
on the left of my page. This
goes against the convections as
the list is usually placed on the
right. I did this as it looked more
attractive this way and the
images wouldn't look as good
placed on the opposite side. As
they’re are looking to the left
which attracts the reader to the
list. I have also put a boarder
around the list .This goes against
the conventions. However I felt
it kept the list away from
clashing with the other text
making it look more appealing
to the reader.
Subheadings : I added
subheadings such as
“KIMA+EXO” and “AMBER”
these are artists names that my
audience would know so it
would catch their attention
and are more likely to read
under it. Usually the
subheadings are not names of
artists. I have rejected this
convention. However the
subheadings are generically
bigger than the rest of the test .I
have followed this convention.
Magazine name: My magazine
name is placed on the bottom right
corner of the page .this follows the
generic conventions as I found-pop
magazines tend to have the magazine
name in the bottom right corner. I
followed this as it would allow my
audience will know it’s genre.
Numbers: The numbers I have put
follow the colour scheme. The colours I
have used throughout follow the
conventions of a k-pop magazine.
Artist’s name: The name of my artist is “LOU KIM” I
have made it big so that it is noticeable and so that
my audience knows that it’s liked to the article and
image. The name is East Asian to link with the genre
k-pop which is from East Asia. The name allows the
audience to know the genre. This is usually a
common convention as most k-pop artists have
Korean names.
Colour: I have
again stuck to the
same 4 colours (
blue, pink, white and
black) ,as I have
used them on my
double page spread
which follow the
conventions of a k-
pop magazine.
Page numbers: added numbers on either side of the page they’re black
and bold so that the audience I s able to see them. Also making them black
contrasts with the white background making them stand out. When I
previously researched into existing k-pop magazines I found that most of the
numbers where different colours. However I have rejected this convention
because I thought lack would look more appealing as there is already allot of
colour on this double page.
By-line: My name is the
by-line as I wrote the
article. I placed it at the
end of the article on the
right which is where it is
conventionally put.
It is in blue so that it
stands out in comparison
to the black text around
it. The by-line being on
the right is a common
convention of a k-pop
magazine.
Main image: My main
image is on the left .This
goes against the
conventions , as the ain
image is usually on the
right. I put it on the left as it
where most people tend
to look first ,also she is the
largest and dominated the
double page
automatically drawing the
audiences’ eyes to her.
Her body is leaning more
towards the right directing
the audience to the
article. This shows she links
to the article. The artist is
East Asian which links with
the genre. It also follows
the conventions as most k-
pop artists are East Asian.
The artists expression is
friendly and inviting as she
is smiling this follow the
conventions as many
artists in k-pop magazine
are smiling.
Pull quote: The pull
quote I used is “ Hard
work is the key to
success” . I used this
particular quote as most
k-pop idols tend to train
years before they debut
and are known to have
long working hours in
comparison to other
genre artist. Therefore I
thought this quote allows
my audience know the
genre and be interested
in the article.
Furthermore since i mage
my magazine with the
idea of ‘spreading k-pop
to the UK’ I thought this
would be good
background information
for new fans to learn.
However this goes
against the conventions
as k-pop magazine do
not tend to include the
training period of the
artist
Magazine name: The
magazine name is places in
the top left had corner
.through out my research
into existing magazine I
found they usually put the
magazine name on the
bottom right. I rejected this
convention because if I
had placed it on the
bottom right it would've
clashed with the black
colours, and not be visible
to my audience.
Colour: I have kept to
the colour scheme by
using the interviewer as
pink and the artists
answers as black .I had
seen this colour set out
in an existing k-pop
magazine called
‘Sparkling’ .Therefore I
am following the
conventions.
Introduction: The
Introduction follows the
conventions as it
mentions important
detail of the artists and
introduces her. This I
found was commonly
used existing
magazine. The
introduction is bold I
had not seen this in
other magazine
therefore it goes
against the
conventions
Language: The
Language in this article
is informal and chatty ,
which is a typical
convention of a
question and answer
format article. This
allows readers to feel
at ease and find more
about the artist. This
language is not slang
which follows the
conventions ,so that
the reader can
understand the article.
content: The article
contains k-pop related
information such as
other k-pop artists my
audience would know
about , the term ‘MC’
which is used in the k-
pop industry in
substitute for ‘TV
Presenter’ (generally
music shows).This
follows the
conventions and
would draw my
audiences attention
as they will know it is
linked to k-pop.
Drop cap: The
drop cap is pink to
go with the rest of
the interview and
follow the
conventional colour
scheme.
Justification: I have justified my lettering to make sure everything
is in line. Not many magazine do this therefore it goes against the
conventions.

  • 2. Masthead: The masthead is in a bright colour and is the biggest font on the cover making it take up 3 fifth of the page .I did this so that it is noticeable to the buyer. The colour pink is also a conventional colour found in k-pop magazines which I discovered in the previous research into k-pop music magazines. In addition I put the Korean word for Hallyu ( 한류) in the ‘U’ .As the audience will know it is Korean therefore will identify it as a k-pop magazine. Also through my research I found that many of them had some Korean characters near the Masthead therefore I did the same so that my magazine followed the conventions of real media products. Main image: The main image is a medium – long shot so you are able to see what the artist is wearing , which is a top with collars and a skirt. This is quite cute. I found through my research into existing k-pop magazine that this fits with the image of female solo artists commonly known to have cute, girly-like images. Furthermore. My research showed me that many k-pop magazine use medium close- up or close-ups rather than medium long shots. However I have rejected this convention as I felt her body language also further represents her as cute. This shot allows you to see the facial expression which is ‘bright’ making her inviting which also represents the artist as cute. The artists is giving eye contact t is as if she is looking directly at you, drawing the buyer ‘s attention to the magazine. This further links to my genre as I found in my research that artists t on the front cover tend to make eye contact. Cover lines: The cover lines all follow the colour scheme of blue and pink. These colours link with my genre as bright colours are generically found in a k-pop magazine. Therefore through the use of these colours my magazine would be identified as a k-pop magazine. These colours also stand out when placed on a white background, therefore inviting the buyer’s attention. I made some font bigger than others to show they are more/less important drawing the buyer’s attention to the more important information. Rule of thirds: I didn't use the rule of thirds too much as I felt the overall look of the cover would look more appealing with the artists in the middle rather than slightly to the right, therefore I went against this convention. However most of my text remains on the left which follows and is the most important therefore is placed on the left because the buyer will notice it first. Barcode + date and price: The barcode is placed in the bottom right hand corner as I found that this is where it is conventionally placed. The date and price are also commonly found on the right under the masthead therefore I placed them there to follow the conventions of my genre. The date and price are very small to not draw to much attention from the buyer so that they can focus of the rest of the cover. Main Cover lines: The main cover line ‘LOU KIM EXCLUSIVE’ Is the largest cover line to grab the buyer's attention ,as it relates most to the main artist. It is mainly in white to contract with her clothing making it stand out even more. The main cover line is placed directly under her face. In k-pop you don’t normally see the artists name so far up rather more towards the bottom I have rejected this convention ,as I felt it looked more appealing where it is placed. And also gives more focus on the artists face as her body is more covered. Colours: The colours pink and blue give a feeling of youth which links with my target audience (13-24 ) who are mainly youth .These are generic colours therefore are the right colours to use to target my audience. The white used shows innocence which links with the artists image of cute and innocent. Selling line: The selling line ‘Music Makes One’ is placed under the masthead. I found in my market research that the selling line is commonly placed near the masthead .Furthermore each word is in a different colour to match the colour scheme that follows the conventions of a k-pop magazine.
  • 3. Masthead: My masthead is the biggest font drawing the reader’s attention. The font is not the same as my masthead on the front cover therefore I am rejecting this convention as I felt this font looked more appealing on this page and also stands out more. Main image: My main image is the biggest to attract the reader to it also it is places near the editorial to show that it links with the image. This is also suggested through her body language as she is looking at towards the text. This follows the generic features of a k-pop magazine as I found k-pop magazine usually have the main image as the largest image. Colours: My colour scheme of white, blue, black and white .By using my colour scheme throughout my magazine, allows the reader to distinguish the genre of the magazine. These colours are generic colours used in k-pop magazines. Featured list: My featured list is on the left of my page. This goes against the convections as the list is usually placed on the right. I did this as it looked more attractive this way and the images wouldn't look as good placed on the opposite side. As they’re are looking to the left which attracts the reader to the list. I have also put a boarder around the list .This goes against the conventions. However I felt it kept the list away from clashing with the other text making it look more appealing to the reader. Subheadings : I added subheadings such as “KIMA+EXO” and “AMBER” these are artists names that my audience would know so it would catch their attention and are more likely to read under it. Usually the subheadings are not names of artists. I have rejected this convention. However the subheadings are generically bigger than the rest of the test .I have followed this convention. Magazine name: My magazine name is placed on the bottom right corner of the page .this follows the generic conventions as I found-pop magazines tend to have the magazine name in the bottom right corner. I followed this as it would allow my audience will know it’s genre. Numbers: The numbers I have put follow the colour scheme. The colours I have used throughout follow the conventions of a k-pop magazine.
  • 4. Artist’s name: The name of my artist is “LOU KIM” I have made it big so that it is noticeable and so that my audience knows that it’s liked to the article and image. The name is East Asian to link with the genre k-pop which is from East Asia. The name allows the audience to know the genre. This is usually a common convention as most k-pop artists have Korean names. Colour: I have again stuck to the same 4 colours ( blue, pink, white and black) ,as I have used them on my double page spread which follow the conventions of a k- pop magazine. Page numbers: added numbers on either side of the page they’re black and bold so that the audience I s able to see them. Also making them black contrasts with the white background making them stand out. When I previously researched into existing k-pop magazines I found that most of the numbers where different colours. However I have rejected this convention because I thought lack would look more appealing as there is already allot of colour on this double page. By-line: My name is the by-line as I wrote the article. I placed it at the end of the article on the right which is where it is conventionally put. It is in blue so that it stands out in comparison to the black text around it. The by-line being on the right is a common convention of a k-pop magazine. Main image: My main image is on the left .This goes against the conventions , as the ain image is usually on the right. I put it on the left as it where most people tend to look first ,also she is the largest and dominated the double page automatically drawing the audiences’ eyes to her. Her body is leaning more towards the right directing the audience to the article. This shows she links to the article. The artist is East Asian which links with the genre. It also follows the conventions as most k- pop artists are East Asian. The artists expression is friendly and inviting as she is smiling this follow the conventions as many artists in k-pop magazine are smiling. Pull quote: The pull quote I used is “ Hard work is the key to success” . I used this particular quote as most k-pop idols tend to train years before they debut and are known to have long working hours in comparison to other genre artist. Therefore I thought this quote allows my audience know the genre and be interested in the article. Furthermore since i mage my magazine with the idea of ‘spreading k-pop to the UK’ I thought this would be good background information for new fans to learn. However this goes against the conventions as k-pop magazine do not tend to include the training period of the artist Magazine name: The magazine name is places in the top left had corner .through out my research into existing magazine I found they usually put the magazine name on the bottom right. I rejected this convention because if I had placed it on the bottom right it would've clashed with the black colours, and not be visible to my audience.
  • 5. Colour: I have kept to the colour scheme by using the interviewer as pink and the artists answers as black .I had seen this colour set out in an existing k-pop magazine called ‘Sparkling’ .Therefore I am following the conventions. Introduction: The Introduction follows the conventions as it mentions important detail of the artists and introduces her. This I found was commonly used existing magazine. The introduction is bold I had not seen this in other magazine therefore it goes against the conventions Language: The Language in this article is informal and chatty , which is a typical convention of a question and answer format article. This allows readers to feel at ease and find more about the artist. This language is not slang which follows the conventions ,so that the reader can understand the article. content: The article contains k-pop related information such as other k-pop artists my audience would know about , the term ‘MC’ which is used in the k- pop industry in substitute for ‘TV Presenter’ (generally music shows). This follows the conventions and would draw my audiences attention as they will know it is linked to k-pop. Drop cap: The drop cap is pink to go with the rest of the interview and follow the conventional colour scheme. Justification: I have justified my lettering to make sure everything is in line. Not many magazine do this therefore it goes against the conventions.
