6. Under the Code, the DILG is mandated to provide
general supervision over local government units
(LGUs) by promoting local autonomy and
strengthening LGU capability.
The DILG monitors not just LGUs' compliance with local
government laws and policies but also LGUs'
performance to ensure effective delivery of basic
services to the people.
