Learning Key Conventions to Create a Professional Music Magazine
1. 7. Looking back at your
preliminary task, what do
you feel you have learnt in
the progression from it to
the full product?
2. Looking back at the front cover of my preliminary task I
believe I have made progress in understanding the key
conventions of a magazine and therefore have been able
to incorporate this understanding into action in making
my music magazine front cover. For example, compared
to the first front cover design my final product for my
music magazine includes secondary images, a main
cover line, selected cover lines using a variety of fonts, a
well thought out colour scheme to attract a certain
audience, and variety of puffs/pugs to intrigue audiences
whereas my preliminary task is a bit all over the place
with not much in depth thought for how each element
represents the magazine.
3. Moreover, I feel I have learnt mainly how different
fonts, colours and images all change and vary
according to the audience that the magazine is being
aimed at and how each individual element has to be
thoughtfully chosen to ensure this is achieved. This
understanding can be seen as in my first attempt at a
front cover I used a variety of fonts which some didn't
quite accomplish attracting an older audience or
complement each other in promoting the features of
the magazine compared to my music magazine front
cover which although has different fronts across the
page they all compliment in attracting a younger
audience.
4. From the preliminary task to my final music
magazine front cover I have improved on the
use of the program Serif PagePlus, becoming
more skilled at using the variety of tools and
programs such as Photolab that come with it to
be able to produce a better quality media
product through the variety of tools.
5. Another thing the preliminary task product helped me
with was the planning and need to organise my time
wisely to be able to create this product. For example,
organising with my model when to do the photo shoot
and organising the right clothes to go with it early on
so it would allow me time to be able to edit them
carefully; especially for the front cover where I
needed to crop the background about around her
which to the longest time to edit.
6. Overall, I think I have improved significantly since
my preliminary product and have created a more
professional and creative product incorporating all
the knowledge I have gained needed to create a
magazine product.
