2. Q1
The majority of people who took my survey
were females. It could be argued that rock is a
genre aimed more at men, however a lot of
females also enjoy rock plus rock magazine
front covers typically feature images and stories
about male rock artists/bands which can be
used to attract the females eye. I originally was
going to say that my target audience would be
male, however after more careful thinking and
analysis of rock magazines I would say that my
target audience is going to be more female
dominated than male.
3. Q2
The majority of the people who took my survey
were aged between the ages of 11-20, with one
person being 60 or over. I was expecting the
results of the music magazine survey to be this
way as music magazines tend to appeal to the
younger generations as they keep you up to date
on artists, gigs, festivals and more which are often
part of what the younger generation enjoy doing.
My target audience will be aimed at, but not
restricted to, females and males who are aged
between the ages of 13-25. I believe this is a good
age range as I do not believe people much older or
younger would be interested in a music magazine
on modern rock.
7. Q3 analysis
From Q3 I can see that the people who took my survey had a
variety of interests in music genres including alternative, shoe
gaze, Jazz and more. However, all 3 sections of the questions
featured at least one response saying that Rock was one of their
favourites. This therefore helps me know that I have identified
the right target audience from my results, plus there are also
sub-genres such as pop-rock or indie-rock which means that
some of the people who are interested in pop/indie music etc
may like some rock music also. This means that they could also
possibly be interested in a rock magazine depending on who is
on the front page at the time.
8. Q4
From the results of Q4 I can see that some people
don’t read music magazines at all whereas some
read them up to 6 times a month. The reason why
some people don’t read music magazines could be
because they source their information from other
places. In this era online websites and social media
is used a lot for receiving news on all sorts of things
including music. For example people may follow
their favourite artists and bands onTwitter and will
therefore get updates about what they are doing
etc when they tweet. I still believe that there is a
good place in the market for music magazines
because from the results I can see that a fair amount
of people are still interested in them; plus a lot of
people collect the magazines.
9. Q5
Most people said that if they were to purchase a
music magazine it would be from a supermarket.
I thought that this would be the result as
supermarkets typically have a large stock of
variations of music magazines including music.
Some people would get them online which I also
expected as it is often easier to get as they will be
delivered and you can also bulk buy for examples
issues 1 to 10. I believe that overall the most
common way people get their magazines is from
the shops which is where I would keep the main
bulk of my product if I were to sell it.
10. Q6
From Q6 I can see that people are will to
pay up to £6 for a music magazine
(ignoring the $10 from America). Most
average music magazines vary from about
£2-£5 which is what most people said they
were happy to pay. This means that when I
am making my product I will price it
between £2-£5 as this is what most people
expect/would be will to pay.
