2. A digipak is a CD Case, normally made of card, which has several folding
panes (squares) along with either one or two plastic holders for the disc/s
inside.
This is an example of a Digipak for Rihannas’s Album called loud. Plus she
is a Dance/RR&B and pop artist

3. Characters
This digipak only features one character-Rihanna herself. She
is shown as a close up shot of her face on the front of the
album, with striking, bold red hair. She also has matching
bold red lipstick on- these striking colours relate well to the
title of the album “Loud” She is also shown looking down,
and not making eye contact with the camera which suggests
how shy she is and her innocence. However she could be
seen as impure due to the discreet tattoo on her neck, which
emphasises her as an R&B artist.
Narrative
There seems to be a narrative to
this digipak as the inside album
artwork suggests as a fairytale like
setting, showing that the CD may
be a story about love as the roses
are an iconic symbolism of love.
However, when listening to some
of the tracks and lyrics, not all the
songs featured on the CD are so
‘innocent’ as suggested by the
digipak artwork. Nevertheless,
most songs relate to some aspect
of the theme of love. A narrative
enigma is created making the
audience want to find out about
the girl as she is giving indirect
address to the audience, creating a
sense of mystery
Iconography
Roses are iconically used withing this digipak,featuring on the inside of
the artwork as well as on the CD art. Symbolism of the rose connotes
innocence and love, and relates to the love theme of the CD tracks such
as ‘Only girl in the world’ . The danger of the colour red can aslo relate
to the risky loved themed songs such as S&M. In the song ‘california
king bed’, the artists create love imagery using the lyrics ‘inside a rose’
showing the connection between the flower and love.
Setting
On the inside artwork, Rihanna is shown lying on
a bed of red roses. This gives off a stroybook
atmosphere as she appears in a dream like state.
The princess-like dress shows Rihanna as
innocent as if in a fairy-tale, with the roses
showing love in the females life. This goes against
the CD’s RnB genre as it is more stereotypically
representative.
Style
There is a strong use of the colour
red within this digipak which is a
strongly emotional colour connoting
love and possibly danger. This could
be relating to the emotional songs
featured on the CD. The artist is also
shown in a white dress, connoting
innocence which relates wel to the
title of the album “Loud” as the
boldness of the red is striking and
eye-catching to the audience. The
text on the front cover shows the
letters rather spaced out in capital
letters which suggests the loud
aspect of the name.

4. The portrait of drake is focused in the middle
where he is avoiding eye contact with the
camera. The facial expressions coming from
the artist portrays a sense of loneliness and
sadness suggesting the album may contains
songs that confide in his emotions. Drakes
costume in the photo is simple he’s wearing
a black shirt along with a gold chain
matching the theme of the albums
black/gold.
The colours used for the digi packs sticks
to a particular theme mostly focused on
this rich sense predominantly gold. The
historic paintings behind him show a
different side to drake seeing that he is a
rapper thereby not corroborating with his
usual lifestyle. The colours sued add
sophistication as well this classical look
which will attract the audience and make
them beilive there is something different
to this album.
