In The Digital World, The Concept Of Direct Marketing...
In the digital world, the concept of direct marketing (especially direct mail) seems novel. Personally,
I love to receive direct marketing messages tailored to my interests such as Ulta Beauty emailing
product recommendations based off of my past purchases. According to the Direct Marketing
Association, "direct marketing produced $2.05 trillion in sales in 2012 – representing roughly 8.7%
of U.S. gross domestic product," (Kalb, 2015). While 8.7% doesn't seem like a large portion of the
GDP, "direct marketing–driven sales growth continued to outpace overall economic growth (7.1%
versus 5.1% for the year 2011)," (Koul, 2013). The DMA Factbook released the 2015 direct
marketing spending which proves the relevance of direct mail, ... Show more content on

Based off of DMA Factbook, data several direct marketing channels telemarketing, online
advertisements, and direct mail scored well in the somewhat positive to extremely positive
consumer category. Compared to Facebook advertisements, television commercials and sponsored
LinkedIn posts that ranked as extremely negative to somewhat negative. This data shows that
consumers enjoy the direct marketing experience more that what they are receiving online or on
television.
In addition to personal marketing messages, direct marketing has various mediums to communicate
with target consumers.
A common misconception is that direct marketing is limited to just direct mail. However, direct
marketing simply means direct communication with consumers regardless of the medium used.
According to the DMA, there are several mediums used for business–to–business and business–to–
consumer direct marketing.
While e–mail is the leading medium, especially for B–to–B communications, direct mail is a close
second place for B–to–C communications. According to DMA, "the share of digital channels in the
marketing budget is expected to increase from 19% in 2011 to 21% in 2012. The star of the show is
mobile marketing, with an annual growth rate of more than 50%. Other digital channels, such as
social network marketing, search engine marketing and others will all increase by over 20%,"

Technology And The Digital World
Today's World Since the creation of the internet, businesses have been looking for ways to leverage
the digital world. Businesses flock towards consumer trends so, today's efforts are emphasized by
mobile engagement; mobile device use is the biggest digital consumer trend. There are many
platforms and strategies to leverage the digital world as it is today. For businesses, it consumes
much time, energy and money. Looking at today's solutions we will show you what is effective.
Current Solutions As consumer habits have transitioned from the desktop to smartphones and
tablets, companies actively pursue ways to leverage mobile devices. The current approaches include;
social media platforms, mobile friendly sites, mobile ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a side effect of "flocking towards consumer trends". Facebook has admittedly miscalculated
metrics for engagement with consumers. In the span of six months last year, Facebook's promoted
posts engagements have declined 19 percent. Consequently, it is becoming increasingly difficult to
leverage social media. Social Platforms have not been designed for businesses interests. Conversely,
these platforms want businesses to work harder & pay more for their consumers reach. To clarify,
social media businesses do not seek to give businesses easy leverage within the digital world.
Mobile Sites The second approach to leveraging mobile is through Mobile sites. It is commonplace
to have a mobile friendly site, however it is very ineffective compared to a mobile application
approach. 90% of time spent on mobile devices comes from mobile applications.
This leaves about 20 minutes per day to spend on mobile browsers. With that 20 minutes, we don't
think that consumers are likely to be visiting a wide variety of sites. To that end, mobile sites are
rendered as ineffective ways to leverage consumers' digital trends. Mobile applications Developing
a mobile application allows businesses the ability to use mobile devices anyway they please, like
mobile sites. A successful application can reap exponential benefits. There are still 2 major hurdles
that developing an application brings, and these are definitely tough challenges.

The Virtue Of Forgetting Of The Digital Age
Delete The Virtue of Forgetting in the Digital Age – Viktor Mayer–Schonberger
Chapter one is entitled " Failing to Forget the Drunken Pirate." This chapter starts off giving
examples of real people that have professional jobs that posted something online that later on came
back and ruined their lives in some way. One person was a woman by the name of Stacey Snyder
who was a 25 year old aspiring teacher. After completing all the coursework needed to become an
educator, university officials denied her of her certificate because of a picture that she posted on her
private Myspace account. The picture was captioned "drunken pirate" and she was holding a red
cup, the university officials claimed her behavior was "unbecoming." Although her page was
private, it was still easy for the officials to find this one image that ruined Stacey's career. In this
chapter it is stressed how easy it is to find information on anyone. Google actually keeps individual
records of people 's search history, web pages browsed, and keywords that they often search. Google
used to keep these records forever, but as of recently that changed and they are only kept for a short
period of time. Also in this chapter it is stated that there is no more privacy. Cell phones have GPS
receivers which allows our location to be tracked all day everyday. Because of this you can now
even track someone through GPS from a photo they've take. In chapter two "Importance of
Remembering", The main points that Schonberger

The Relevance of Fair Use Doctrine in the Digital World
Abstract. Different proposals have been made to restrict the "fair use" exception in a digital context.
Digitization provides tools to detect private digital copying of a protected work and to limit it. This
may allow title–holders to prevent practices that have been important for educational and scholarly
purposes. Given the power conferred by the technology, "fair use" exceptions established by the law
may become inapplicable and substantially affect access to information, particularly in developing
countries. The protection of databases, as established or proposed in some jurisdictions, may
aggravate this problem. The development of new principles for the application in this context of
"fair use" needs to be considered, including ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For that reason, the fair use doctrine consistently creates difficult issues for you and your clients. It
is ironic, then, that "fair use" is the copyright issue most likely to confront an average copyright
user. Fair use issues arise in a wide variety of everyday contexts, including the classroom, the
boardroom, the record industry, the theater, and the movie industry. Typical fair use conflicts likely
to arise in practice include: copying for educational purposes both in the classroom and the
boardroom ; quoting from copyrighted sources in reporting, reviews, and scholarly research ;
uploading or downloading copyrighted material to or from a website; "sampling" copyrighted
material in sound recordings or including copyrighted material as scenery in a motion picture or
theater set; and use of copyrighted material in a parody. 3. Basis of the fair use doctrine The fair use
doctrine "creates a limited privilege in those other than the owner of a copyright to use the
copyrighted material in a reasonable manner without the owner's consent." It permits unauthorized
uses that otherwise would constitute infringement but are deemed noninfringing because they
advance the underlying constitutional purpose of copyright law: to promote broad public availability
of literature, music, and other forms of creative arts. The constitutional principle

Digital Technology And Its Effects On The World
Since the 1990's the world has experienced vast improvements in technology and what seems as an
endless expansion of the Internet, and as a result, laws and legislation have had to evolve was well.
Technologists and policymakers exist in "two worlds, "two cultures" when it comes to viewing a
problem and developing a solution. Nevertheless, technologist and policymakers have been up
against some very complex issues such as how to control piracy of copyrighted digital media.
However, copyright owners have sought out legal means to protect their intellectual assets. In recent
years copyright laws have been in effect to strike a balance between protecting the rights of authors,
artist and copyright owners, and according to the U.S. Constitution, to "promote the Progress of
Science and useful Arts." Digital technology, unlike analog technology that preceded it, can make
large copies in real–time without the degradation in quality. However, as a response to these
capabilities of digital technology, policymakers had to create a system of digital rights management
(DRM) and other technical deterrents where digital content owners could exert control over media
usage. In response to these complex issues, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) of 1998
was passed. Digital Rights Management (DRM) is a systematic method of controlling access to
copyrighted material. The purpose of DRM is to prevent the unauthorized redistribution of
copyrighted digital content, in other words,

The Digital World Is Affecting Today 's Youth
Sandra Boyd analyzes how nearly ubiquitous access to the digital world is affecting today's youth in
It 's Complicated. She explains how the "app generation" is struggling to self–identify and
successfully leverage the Internet to be "app enabled." Youth's "app dependency" is a result of
access to digital technology and social media at an early age, and is preventing youth from properly
self–identifying themselves. This, in turn, is affecting how they build relationships and how they
think creatively. The online community our group has decided to look into is the PCMasterRace
subreddit. This subreddit is a community of PC gamers sharing information about computer
hardware, post creative and visually appealing computer configurations (called "builds" or "rigs")
and post satirical or funny pictures about trending topics. Reddit provides a platform for people with
unique special interests (i.e. PC's) to communicate and collaborate; it is a place where relationships
have the opportunity to be built and where creative ideas can be expressed openly.
Recently, a major topic of this subreddit has been to "help console peasants ascend" to the ranks of
the PC Master Race. Console peasants often deny that PCs outrank consoles in terms of
performance and ability when gaming and respond to PCMasterRace commentary by posting
nonsense, making claims that playing at suboptimal graphics settings on their consoles make for a
better atmosphere and an overall superior gaming experience.

Digital Reality And Its Effect On The Real World
Virtual reality, which is mainly abbreviated as VR is about technologies of the computer that utilizes
software to produce images that are realistic as well as sounds and different other sensations that
imitate the real world. It is seen as if it creates an environment that is imagined. Moreover, VR fakes
the physical presence of the user in the created setting by making it possible for the user to relate
with the objects portrayed in the space through the use of specific screens for displaying or other
devices such as projectors. VR is therefore said to create a three dimensional (3D) setting that
people interact with. Technology is on its early phase as gadgets continue to crop, there by
promising on the growth (Eadicicco, 2016). VR has had many uses. For example in education and
training, VR, through its immersive qualities enhances learning. It has been used in video games
through its incorporation with graphics, input technology and sound. In entertainment, VR has been
utilized in simulators. Moreover, its use in fine arts is immersive and many notable artists like
Jeffrey Shaw and Char Davies's works have incorporated it. In engineering, VR has been used in
aerospace and automobiles and it is believed to have a potential to add more dimensions to product
building, virtual prototyping and cases involving performance use. In therapy, it has been applied to
different exposure forms like in the treatment of phobia. According to Robison, Liu & Apuzzo

The World Moves Forward Into The Digital Age Essay
As the world moves forward into the digital age, American institutions must adapt to serve the needs
of a digital society. The Newspaper industry has not entered the digital age unscathed; several issues
of the current business model must be addressing if Newspapers are to survive the century.
Americans and especially the younger generations are more skeptical of the Mass Media and less
likely to believe that they are non–biases and question more than ever of the legitimacy of the news
stories put out by the press. And as the world becomes a smaller community people are more
concerned with international affairs and less local issues unless directly affecting them. Once one of
the only outlets for advertisers to reach, large audiences Newspapers are heavily dependent on ad
sales, which can cause an issue if every person in America has a portable device that spews ads at
them all day.
During the 2008 financial crisis, newspapers saw the largest drop in revenue from advertising sales
since the great depression. The drop in sales affected every sector of the Industry's market. Revenue
from advertisements is the largest portion of the total income for newspapers; the dramatic decline
was and is devastating for not only local but also national newspapers. In 2009 the total amount of
spending on advertisements fell by 12.9% across all industries. Newspapers alone saw their
advertisement revenue decline by 26%, a rate that was 50% steeper than in than in 2008 when

Deviant Behavior In The Digital World
Chapter 13 Suler discusses the different kinds of deviant behavior in the digital world. Advances in
technology have resulted in new forms of deviance as well as new forms of control. The internet is
the place for deviance because of the lack of proper constraints and restraints on associations. The
internet has the ability to form communities that creates and supports behaviors that are no longer a
norm. Deviant activities often reflect the individual's inappropriate behavior through email, news
group messages, and chat room conversations. The different forms of cyber deviances are sexual
deviance, self–harm cyber communities, hate groups, and cyber stalking. With existing detailed
guidelines and rules governed by authorities on the use of internet, cyber citizens still continue to
exhibit unacceptable behaviors. Suler stated that cyber deviant can be rated from mild to severe,
depending on its intentions to do harm to others. Sexual deviance online refers to various ways of
viewing and collecting pornographic material. For instance, some individuals will use photographs
of young women and teenage girl's that they take from their social media profiles and posted on a
pornography website without their permission. The stolen photos in these cases are not explicitly
sexual but they are repurposed for sexual services that affect a ... Show more content on

Gender And Technology Has Become A Important Factor Within...
Gender and technology has become a very important factor within today's society, as it reflects upon
the overlaps between gender, digital technologies and democracy. Technology has presented both
genders in provocative ways that tends to lead to sexual harassment and then for political action to
end gender based violence. This then becomes essential and fundamental to the working of and
towards a healthy democracy. The term Cyberfeminism has been developed throughout the previous
years as feminists who are interested in exploiting with technologies, such as the Internet and cyber–
space think it is a vehicle of freedom from the dissolution of sex and gender. An example of online
digital media that illustrates the case of gender of Cyberfeminism is the online media campaign
called "Free The Nipple." This essay will firstly describe this cyberfeminism campaign and how it is
relevant towards gender and technology. Then it will examine how digital media can be used as a
form of resistance against stereotypes and ideological assumptions in relation to the role of women
in contemporary society. Thus the difference between men and women become relevant to these
media phenomena and is of importance for gender patterns when considering it in relation to the
Internet. (Bimber, 3)
On December 12th, 2014, was the initial release of "Free The Nipple" campaign, which is and/or
was targeting all kinds of women from around the world to empower them and to be apart of the
equality movement.

Managing Of The Digital World
Chapter 1: Managing in the Digital World
One of the biggest focuses of Chapter 1 was the 5 megatrends of Information Technology. The
textbook identified Mobile, Social Media, Internet of Things, Cloud Computing and Big Data as the
big five (Valacich 2016). Personally, I have observed this shift in my IT career in K–12 Education.
Initially, schools were primarily Windows OS desktops and laptops. However over time, it's
definitely shifted to a Post–PC environment. 1–1 device programs have triggered a heavy shift to
mobile devices such as ipads and other tablets. As a district IT department this has greatly changed
both the demands of our physical infrastructure as well procedures and expectations of our staff.
New metrics, knowledge and in some cases positions are needed. Social Media, has also changed
the workplace. Districts, can utilize social media to better connect with parents. As a result, there is
now less emphasis on older means for connecting with parents such as analog messaging systems.
The internet of things also comes into play. Nowadays, there are an ever increasing number of
systems that need connectivity. GPS on buses, HVAC systems, smart watches, prox cards and
background check machines to name a few. Cloud Computing is always a factor. With high speed
WAN connections and more affordable storage we are constantly evaluating and transitioning
systems to the cloud to decrease our hardware and overhead costs. Google Apps for education

Intellectual Property Interconnected Digital World
Intellectual Property in an Interconnected Digital World Introduction
The concept of intellectual property, copyrights, and patents has been around for many years. The
ancient Greeks had already started to attribute authorship of works to individuals. The purpose is to
encourage people to make new inventions by rewarding them with the exclusive right to "own" their
ideas. Laws have been made to prohibit people from taking other people's ideas unlawfully (i.e.,
stealing) and in general, these laws have been successful in preventing the crime before it is done,
and punishing the criminals after it is done. However, in recent years, the new phenomena of the
Internet and digital technology will change both the concept of intellectual ... Show more content on

It is not hard to prove that an object belongs to its rightful owner, and therefore, it is not much more
difficult to tell when someone takes other people's physical property. In other words, it is relatively
easy to tell if someone is stealing an intellectual property when stealing a physical object is
involved.
It is also very easy to see a violation of intellectual property law when someone makes an obvious
effort that shows his intention of stealing. If a person joins a high tech company to be part of the
chip design team and then five months later leaves the company to join a competitor which suddenly
releases a similar product with a similar bug, it will not be long until the former company files a
trade secret lawsuit against that person. Even though we cannot see or prove the actual action of
stealing, we are able to deduct that that person is stealing just by observing what he did.
These factors that help us determine if a violation has been committed are useless in the new realm
of the Internet and digital technology. Once converted to digital format, ideas that took form of
writing and music are now just a sequence of zeros and ones. They do not have a physical form at all
and become very abstract. It is hard to determine what belongs to who when the object is very
abstract. Even if we agree that a specific sequence of binaries "belong" to its owner, it is virtually
impossible

They essay, "Cybergrace: The Search for God in the Digital World" starts by showing a chess match

titled "Beyond Descartes", it talks about the philosophy behind living in conjunction with
computers. In the third section titled "The God of Process," Cobb's talks about the belief in God

through technology. Jennifer J. Cobb styles her work "Cybergrace: The Search for God in the Digital

to spiritual views by the everyday use of technology.
The first section titled "A Parable For Our Times" outlines Cobb's entire essay by telling a story
about a game between Kasparov and Deep Blue. Kasparov, being a professional chess master, plays

Cobbs links divinity to creativity by saying that divine nature is present in everyday life and "in the

Digital Adventure / Action Cameras Have Changed Our World...
Times Are Changing – How We View Our World Compact action cameras have changed our world.
They allow the process of documenting, through picture or video, to become mainstream. In a world
of constant connectivity through social media, technology, and the internet we are more connected
now than ever. With the advancements of technology in media capturing devices, we are now able to
document more than ever. Compact adventure/action cameras have changed the way in which we, as
humans, interact with the outdoor world by bringing a social component into play. In this paper we
will discuss the uses, the current market, related technology, and explore what the future will look
like. Why are we constantly sharing? To answer that question, we need to look at the underlying
grasp of constant connectivity. Today's society has the most connection than any before. Our
technology and the internet have shaped our culture in such a way that it is almost a requirement. In
this day and age, finding someone who is not connected in any way is few and far between. Social

`` Brave New World Of Digital Intimacy ``
Similar to the characters in Wall–E, people in our society have become glued to their devices, thus
any form of physical socializing is nonexistent. Because people pay so much attention to their social
medias, the form of web communication slowly strips the ability to physically interact confidently
with others. For example, there are kids and teens out there who grew up with online friends
because they spent most of their childhood indoor playing games and meeting people online. In
Wall–E, all the humans do up in space is stare at a large screen projector. In fact, they are so
invested in technology that they do not acknowledge the existence of those around them. There is
not a single character who takes a moment to speak to another human sitting right beside them. In
"Brave New World of Digital Intimacy", Thompson declares "And when they do socialize face to
face, it feels oddly as if they've never been apart. They don't need to ask, "so what have you been up
to?" because they already know." He indicates that people spend so much time on the internet
chatting and catching up with each other that it feels awkward to speak in person again because they
are not used to physical contact. People who use these applications are able to see and communicate
with their friends or families just across the screen. Technology instead is becoming a person's

Digital Access For Information : A World Changing Innovation
Digital Access to Information; A World Changing Innovation
YouTube. Social Media. Google. The internet itself. All of these things are key aspects of our
current society. It has been so finely integrated into our everyday lives that we could not imagine a
world without it. A few decades ago though, these things did not even exist. Digital access to
information has changed the way the current society and how people's everyday lives work. It has
created a new form of communication, accessing information as well as expressing oneself (via
social media). All of which, have both positive and negative effects on everyday life, nevertheless, a
large impact on it. To begin, with the introduction of digital information, communication through
digital or "online" means has been created as well. This in turn changes the way humans interact and
communicate with each other. With this new technology, humans can now quickly and efficiently
communicate amongst themselves in a way that was not possible before. An estimate of

Advertising And Advertising
The Internet as the main provider of information and entertainment in children nowadays is
significantly linked to advertising and its trends throughout the media that are directly affecting
children's behavior and development. The digital world has provoked a great transformation in
advertising and its effects in social behavior. Brands are constantly renovating, and the Internet has
made it accessible for them to spread their messages as a brand and impact children especifically the
ages between 6 to 14 years old. The main objective of this paper is to inquire and investigate the
behavior of children in society nowadays, and their responses in an environment massively changed
by digital era and its trends. The results will be able to identify how gradually individuals have been
affected by the excessive exposure to advertising and media.
Introduction The growth of technology within new generations of society has created new
tendencies in which the use of different channels that distribute information online like, social
networks, or virtual blogs have been the main target used by advertising to "shoot" at people with
images of brands to indirectly attract the viewers to like a certain type of product and style.
Therefore, depending on what type of audience is being targeted, advertising will be different from
one category to the other.

In chapter 1, Berns describes the community "is the main setting in which children learn by doing."
(Berns, 2015) This explains that through the community children learn socializing skills. Further, I
am not opposed to children using technology to learn, but from my observation of my younger
relatives they are not taking advantage of the benefits of technology. Ilene and Michael Berson
explain in the book High–tech Tots: Childhood in a Digital World, that "Children's use of new
technologies, including computers, cameras, iPods, MP3 players, and the range of electronic toys,
will continue to be extended and they will bring these experiences to preschools and schools. "
(Berson & Berson, 2014) This shows how children in todays society are frequently using electronic
devices which could benefit children's learning experience. Nicola Yelland describes "Certainly, the
nature of the concept of "toy" has changed considerably over the last decade with the advent of new
technologies that have had the effect of bringing additional dimensions to objects that had
previously been relegated to a passive role in their interactions with children." (Yelland 1999) New
electronic toys have been developed to further enhance the learning experience of children with
more proactive interactions rather than a passive

Technology And Technological Advancements
Technology's advancements The increasing capabilities of today's digital tools can create harmful
effects and habits on humanity. These days everyone has a smartphone or computer with
increasingly powerful technology. It is truly impressive how far this technology has come just in the
past several years; but is it all as beneficial as advertized? With all the apps and accessories that
come with these powerful machines, it is easy for our generation to take advantage and abuse the
privileges associated with having these devices. In the article "Is Google Making Us Stupid",
Nicholas Carr an American writer who has published books and articles on technology, business,
and culture states " I'm not thinking the way I used to think. I can feel it most strongly when I'm
reading. Immersing myself in a book or a lengthy article used to be easy. My mind would get caught
up in the narrative or the turns of the argument, and I'd spend hours strolling through long stretches
of prose. That's rarely the case anymore. Now my concentration often starts to drift after two or
three pages". I believe this is just one of the numerous ways technological advancements have
spiked our need for stimulation and dulled our sense of acceptance with solitude and boredom.
While I agree with Carr that our concentration skills have lowered I would also like to shed light on
the what social media has done to our psychological make up. The age that children are exposed to
smart technology is quickly

The Roots of Our Digital World Essay
The Roots of Our Digital World
Today's world revolves around the storing, organization, and communication of information. While
the world today may seem new and unique, this digital world arose out of a combination of many
smaller steps that varied from innovations like a new discovery in science or a new philosophical
outlook. In their writings Lev Manovich, a professor of New Media at San Diego University, and Dr.
Simon Cook, an Economics professor at Duke University, have developed of a history of what lead
to the development of the visual world. Manovich claims that the digital revolution came in a three–
step process. The first took place in the time period between 1870 and 1920. Manovich believes that
during this time period, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Manovich and Cook created a strong structure for a digital history, however, the two failed to make
note of a few critical aspects that compliment and add more depth to this history. Both scholars
place too much emphasis on setting a specific beginning to this history. Manovich and Cook, also,
fail to incorporate the work of Charles Dogson, otherwise known as Lewis Carroll, into the late–
Victorian history, and fail to note the importance of technological developments in creation of the
modern digital world.
Finding the actual beginning of the digital history might not be possible and unnecessarily weakens
the narrative. Lev Manovich believes that this history behind the digital world of today began with
developments in the late–Victorian time period. Cook refutes this belief and notes that the major
contributors to late Victorian visual reasoning called upon the influence of already existing
mathematics to develop their charts and graphs. The late Victorian time period, however, remains
the initial time period where these influences related to the history of the creation of the digital
world of today (Cook 6–7). While Cook may be correct in making such an argument, Cook's attempt
to clarify Manovich's claim creates more confusion about when the start of this change began.
As the more people study and research the history of the modern

Digital Divide in the US and Around the World Essay
Digital Divide in the US and Around the World
Since the launch of the Internet as a global communication network and the boom in communication
technologies, our world has been overwhelmed by a new phenomenon – digital divide. It has
gradually turned into a major, constantly growing world issue, threatening to further increase the
gap between advanced and developing countries. Yet, is digital divide really an unprecedented
occurrence or a natural and unavoidable trend? "Divide" is certainly a word whose meaning could
be traced back to the mere dawn of human history. It goes even deeper – to human nature itself: to
sex and racial differentiation, to unequal physical and mental powers, to different ... Show more

It is most often referred to as the divide between "those with access to new technologies and those
without" (Irving) or between "haves and have–nots"(Hecht) in terms of information technologies.
However, using "access" to define digital divide is quite improper, since an opportunity to log on to
the Web does not imply knowledge to use it efficiently. For example, situation in an underdeveloped
country will not improve dramatically even if new technologies were artificially integrated in its
economy, unless people have the proper skills to utilize them successfully. Likewise, the suitability
of the second definition could also be questioned, as information should be measured in terms of
quality, rather than of quantity, because specific information with exact economic value is what
really matters in e–commerce (Foster 442–43). Probably the best way to characterize digital divide
is as the growing social and economic disparities between the rich and the poor.
This definition conveys an idea of the extraordinary impact of digital divide on world society and
economy. Indeed, it is the close interrelation between economy and technology that attaches such a
worldwide significance to a single socio–economic occurrence, such as digital divide. Nowadays,
communication technologies, strongly stimulating economic growth, are the grease, which helps the
wheel of global economy go round. Internet, for instance, has revolutionized the way we trade,

Should Students Be Digitally Connected In Public Schools?
Education is ever–changing and students need to be confident, creative, connected and active
lifelong learners. Digital technologies are very important to our student's world as they use them to
connect with each other, learn new skills and pursue their interest. Luckey (2009) stated "For
students in particular, technology is almost an extension of themselves. They use it to communicate,
to discover the world, to play games, to collaborate, to create things, to write, to read, and to
organize their lives. Nothing can be more foreign to them than school without technology or where
technology is relegated to its own special place." Mobile devices with the power of digital
technology are being placed in every student's hand in schools around the world which equips them
with the personal technology needed to learn and communicate in the 21st century. While these
programs can be very effective for students, they can be challenging for schools. Some educators
believe that digital technology in the classroom may cause more of a distraction to students;
however integrating digital technology in the classroom helps students become more engaged. In the
digital world, data is at students' fingertips 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Technology is
everywhere and many students have adopted practices

The Effects Of Digital Media On The World Of Copyrights
Introduction Today's digital artists work in an environment where information and access to design
inspiration are, literally, at their fingertips. Many in the industry use the artwork of others in order to
inspire their on artwork and provide content for their projects. However, I have noticed that many
fail to give the proper credit to the artists' whose work(s). Digital media and internet has transformed
the world of copyrights in many ways. The digital environment has made it very easy to distribute
and re–distribute content (Kankanala,2012). It could also be very possible that many people have
little to no familiarity to intellectual property or copyright laws. When dealing with sources found
digitally the laws become even more blurred and confusing; Copyright laws, traditionally, were
intended protect authors and artists and physical mediums. Lawmakers' struggle with copyright law
is how to apply laws intended for one purpose to today's high tech environment fast–paced
environment. Laws are continuously being proposed and paced to stop piracy and infringement of
intellectual properties (Yearneau, 2010; Jamar, 2013; Grimellman, 2014). Although, it may be a
murky and confusing subject it is best for those creating and using artistic works on line to know
what is legally appropriate for them to do. It is important for a graphic artist/ graphic designer to
have the ability to protect his/her own work(s) and reputation as a professional by working within

powder form for further processing. By volume Spirulina has unusually high concentrations of

The World Of The Digital Age Essay
Society is now immersed in the era of the digital age. Gone are the days of searching for hours in the
library for the answers to a particular question, writing letters that can take days if not weeks to
reach its recipient or simply visiting friends to reconnect. The Internet has provided a way to obtain
and share a vast amount of information instantaneously on devices such as laptops and mobile
phones. As a result, the number of users is increasing at an exponential rate as more people go
online and embrace the convenience of the world–wide web. Social media sites allow the user to
share personal information, photographs and videos at their own discretion as well as view the
information shared by others, such sites have become an integrated part of everyday life especially
amongst adolescents. Although, this modern way of social interaction and information sharing has
its advantages it can likewise have a negative impact on the lives of some individuals. This essay
will suggest that while the Internet has advanced communication and is growing in popularity, the
issue of bullying has similarly evolved. Consequently, cyberbullying is now a recognised problem
faced in most societies and educational institutions. To deal with this new phenomenon, countries
such as New Zealand is proposing changes to existing laws and legislations.
The Internet, although, introduced in the 1960s, only became commonly accessible in the 1990s.

My View Of The Digital World
Imagine that it 's 10 years from now, global warming has continued and the glaciers have melted and
two whole new livable continents have been discovered. Further the big data revolution has
progressed and there have been changes in way people socialize, work and shop etc. My view of the
way the digital continent would be developed would be: 1. Smart houses will have Intelligent agents
that will dim lights, open and close the windows, water your plants and feed pets. Biometric sensors
will recognize you as you enter your home. When you get home from work, the house is warm, the
kettle is on and an alarm reminds you to mow the lawn. It can even take instructions from your
mobile phone, connect to your car and has a programmable thermostat. Technology revolutionizing
care for the elderly, people with physical and mental disabilities by allowing them to look after
themselves to help them get up, prepare food, make hands–free phone calls and remind them to take
their medication. Smart houses will have facial recognition software which works out who is
coming through the door and adjusts setting to their preferences – whether it is food choices or
bathwater temperature. It provides assistance for cognitive or physical limitations. Individuals with
dementia might start to cook, and then wander off and the stove is still on. With this automated
control the home can sense when this is a health hazard and turn it off. Homes could also be

Digital Divide In The United States And In The World
Digital Divide
In the United States and in the world, there is a digital divide related to knowledge and access to
electronic resources. The personal pursuit of knowledge, career advancement, and the inequalities
that some people encounter as it relates to electronic resources is what has been labeled the digital
divide. To better understand the digital divide, a person must first understand the correlation
between lifelong learners, adult education, and the digital divide. In the United States the thirst for
knowledge is at an all–time high and many people may ask the question why?
One of the key reasons is in the United States many Americans consider themselves lifelong
learners. With that being said, individuals may ask questions like, "What is a lifelong learner and
how do people find themselves in this category"? More importantly, what is the digital divide? The
purpose of this body of work is to answer some of these unanswered questions. ... Show more

The digital divide is related to the access that certain people have to the knowledge and the
resources necessary to keep up with society or to better their lifestyle. Researches has indicated that
people from different socio–economic groups have limited access to technologies like unlimited
internet access, the latest smartphones, or IPads which limits their personal and professional
development. These restrictions contribute to what is known as the digital divide. Simply put, the
digital divide is the division of knowledge and resources between the haves and the have–nots. The
digital divide does exist but this should not be an excuse for people not to learn. As learned in our

A Digital World Of Information And Communication
To prepare our students to succeed in a digital world of information and communication, it is
imperative for us to begin thinking about reading and literacy in a new way. Our students must be
proficient in what scholars describe as "new literacies." This relatively new perspective in literacy
instruction acknowledges and investigates the literacy practices that are borne out of digital
technology (Houtman, 2013). In today's world, being a proficient learner requires more than the
traditional literacy skills of reading and writing. Students must gain adeptness with the tools of
technology and construct meaning from various textual forms (e.g., images, sounds, and videos).
Moreover, students must learn specific strategies to navigate the internet and tap into the higher
order thinking skills of creating, critiquing and communicating ideas in a credible way.
A student's ability to read, write, problem–solve, work as part of a team, think critically, and use
information from innovative technologies is essential to their education. The latest statistics claim
that over three billion individuals now use the Internet to read, write, communicate, learn, and solve
important problems online (Internet World Stats, 2014). By all indications, these numbers will
continue to increase. Accordingly, this moment of technological explosion raises important
questions for educational leaders that speaks directly to how best to integrate these new literacies
and practices into content–area

Google's Dominance Of The Digital World
Google is undoubtedly one of the biggest companies of our time. The company's search engine has
become so popular that we don't look up things on the Internet anymore, we 'google' them.
The company's conquest of the digital business world has led some to argue it's not just an ordinary
company anymore, but rather a monopoly. But what are monopolies and is Google a digital
monopoly? If so, should regulators try to find a way to limit them?
This guide will look at whether we should be worried about Google's dominance in the digital world
and why it might not be one of the world's most invincible companies.
What is a monopoly?
Before we look into the evidence of Google as a monopoly, it is important to understand what a
monopoly is. The word is often used in the media, but not always in its proper meaning.
In its essence a monopoly is a situation in which only a single company or group has the ownership
of nearly all or all of the market for the given product or service. Therefore, a monopoly is a
situation where competition is absent.
In a strict academic sense the extreme case of capitalism is characterised as a market containing a
single operator. Such situation often results in increased prices and even inferior products as the
group has no competition in the market.
Because of this, monopolies are tightly controlled in the modern world and therefore the strict
definition of monopoly is highly unlikely in the modern world. If a single company would control a

Small enterprises who wants to compete in the market uses pirated software. These small startups

barrier they face is the money. By using these pirated software they make more money by investing
money on other things such as "e–commerce storefronts" which results in quick expansions and thus
more hiring can be done. To support the local retailers and manufacturers the pirated software is
used. For example, there are so many duplicate products in market which are manufactured by local
manufacturers, they use local hardwares and pirated software in there products and thus there
products are far more cheaper than the original one which encourages the local community to buy
these products. This increases the demand of software piracy. Software companies decides software
price regardless of location. Companies do not take into account the factors such as living standards,
cost of income etc. People in the underdeveloped or developing nations could not able to pay the
price of software which encourages more use of pirated softwares in these countries. With less
awareness among people that sharing of softwares would benefit the community such as in schools
and colleges, students shares the softwares, digital music, videos etc through pirated CD's, DVD's
etc. With the

The Effects Of Digital Etiquette In The Digital Age
Digital etiquette is a modern variation of the old adage "treat others the way you want to be treated"
(Behrens, n.d.) . This is an important yet difficult lesson to teach children in the digital age because
they spend less time participating in face–to–face encounters and more time behind a screen. In fact
children ages 8–18 spend approximately 7.5 hours using technology and social media (New
Research, 2014). What makes this lesson so difficult is the fact that because children spend so much
time behind a screen interacting with people, they spend less time reading people's emotions and
seeing how their words affect other people. In fact, many adults struggle to come to this realization
as well. Based on my own personal experience on social media, many adults still react to situations
they come across online emotionally and do not necessarily think about what they are posting and
how their words affect the people that are reading them. This is evident with the amount of
arguments that occur mostly in the comment section on social media. In fact, social media is an
excellent source of poor digital etiquette with all of the fights, swearing, and belittling of others that
occurs on these platforms (Digital Etiquette, 2008). This is largely because of the misinterpretations
that can happen when communicating digitally verses communicating face to face. It is difficult to
interpret the context from which someone is speaking. It is essential that adults slow down with their

In The Digital World, The Concept Of Direct Marketing...

  • 1. In The Digital World, The Concept Of Direct Marketing... In the digital world, the concept of direct marketing (especially direct mail) seems novel. Personally, I love to receive direct marketing messages tailored to my interests such as Ulta Beauty emailing product recommendations based off of my past purchases. According to the Direct Marketing Association, "direct marketing produced $2.05 trillion in sales in 2012 – representing roughly 8.7% of U.S. gross domestic product," (Kalb, 2015). While 8.7% doesn't seem like a large portion of the GDP, "direct marketing–driven sales growth continued to outpace overall economic growth (7.1% versus 5.1% for the year 2011)," (Koul, 2013). The DMA Factbook released the 2015 direct marketing spending which proves the relevance of direct mail, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Based off of DMA Factbook, data several direct marketing channels telemarketing, online advertisements, and direct mail scored well in the somewhat positive to extremely positive consumer category. Compared to Facebook advertisements, television commercials and sponsored LinkedIn posts that ranked as extremely negative to somewhat negative. This data shows that consumers enjoy the direct marketing experience more that what they are receiving online or on television. In addition to personal marketing messages, direct marketing has various mediums to communicate with target consumers. A common misconception is that direct marketing is limited to just direct mail. However, direct marketing simply means direct communication with consumers regardless of the medium used. According to the DMA, there are several mediums used for business–to–business and business–to– consumer direct marketing. While e–mail is the leading medium, especially for B–to–B communications, direct mail is a close second place for B–to–C communications. According to DMA, "the share of digital channels in the marketing budget is expected to increase from 19% in 2011 to 21% in 2012. The star of the show is mobile marketing, with an annual growth rate of more than 50%. Other digital channels, such as social network marketing, search engine marketing and others will all increase by over 20%," ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Technology And The Digital World Today's World Since the creation of the internet, businesses have been looking for ways to leverage the digital world. Businesses flock towards consumer trends so, today's efforts are emphasized by mobile engagement; mobile device use is the biggest digital consumer trend. There are many platforms and strategies to leverage the digital world as it is today. For businesses, it consumes much time, energy and money. Looking at today's solutions we will show you what is effective. Current Solutions As consumer habits have transitioned from the desktop to smartphones and tablets, companies actively pursue ways to leverage mobile devices. The current approaches include; social media platforms, mobile friendly sites, mobile ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a side effect of "flocking towards consumer trends". Facebook has admittedly miscalculated metrics for engagement with consumers. In the span of six months last year, Facebook's promoted posts engagements have declined 19 percent. Consequently, it is becoming increasingly difficult to leverage social media. Social Platforms have not been designed for businesses interests. Conversely, these platforms want businesses to work harder & pay more for their consumers reach. To clarify, social media businesses do not seek to give businesses easy leverage within the digital world. Mobile Sites The second approach to leveraging mobile is through Mobile sites. It is commonplace to have a mobile friendly site, however it is very ineffective compared to a mobile application approach. 90% of time spent on mobile devices comes from mobile applications. This leaves about 20 minutes per day to spend on mobile browsers. With that 20 minutes, we don't think that consumers are likely to be visiting a wide variety of sites. To that end, mobile sites are rendered as ineffective ways to leverage consumers' digital trends. Mobile applications Developing a mobile application allows businesses the ability to use mobile devices anyway they please, like mobile sites. A successful application can reap exponential benefits. There are still 2 major hurdles that developing an application brings, and these are definitely tough challenges. 1. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Virtue Of Forgetting Of The Digital Age Delete The Virtue of Forgetting in the Digital Age – Viktor Mayer–Schonberger Chapter one is entitled " Failing to Forget the Drunken Pirate." This chapter starts off giving examples of real people that have professional jobs that posted something online that later on came back and ruined their lives in some way. One person was a woman by the name of Stacey Snyder who was a 25 year old aspiring teacher. After completing all the coursework needed to become an educator, university officials denied her of her certificate because of a picture that she posted on her private Myspace account. The picture was captioned "drunken pirate" and she was holding a red cup, the university officials claimed her behavior was "unbecoming." Although her page was private, it was still easy for the officials to find this one image that ruined Stacey's career. In this chapter it is stressed how easy it is to find information on anyone. Google actually keeps individual records of people 's search history, web pages browsed, and keywords that they often search. Google used to keep these records forever, but as of recently that changed and they are only kept for a short period of time. Also in this chapter it is stated that there is no more privacy. Cell phones have GPS receivers which allows our location to be tracked all day everyday. Because of this you can now even track someone through GPS from a photo they've take. • 7. The Relevance of Fair Use Doctrine in the Digital World Abstract. Different proposals have been made to restrict the "fair use" exception in a digital context. Digitization provides tools to detect private digital copying of a protected work and to limit it. This may allow title–holders to prevent practices that have been important for educational and scholarly purposes. Given the power conferred by the technology, "fair use" exceptions established by the law may become inapplicable and substantially affect access to information, particularly in developing countries. The protection of databases, as established or proposed in some jurisdictions, may aggravate this problem. The development of new principles for the application in this context of "fair use" needs to be considered, including ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For that reason, the fair use doctrine consistently creates difficult issues for you and your clients. It is ironic, then, that "fair use" is the copyright issue most likely to confront an average copyright user. Fair use issues arise in a wide variety of everyday contexts, including the classroom, the boardroom, the record industry, the theater, and the movie industry. Typical fair use conflicts likely to arise in practice include: copying for educational purposes both in the classroom and the boardroom ; quoting from copyrighted sources in reporting, reviews, and scholarly research ; uploading or downloading copyrighted material to or from a website; "sampling" copyrighted material in sound recordings or including copyrighted material as scenery in a motion picture or theater set; and use of copyrighted material in a parody. 3. Basis of the fair use doctrine The fair use doctrine "creates a limited privilege in those other than the owner of a copyright to use the copyrighted material in a reasonable manner without the owner's consent." It permits unauthorized uses that otherwise would constitute infringement but are deemed noninfringing because they advance the underlying constitutional purpose of copyright law: to promote broad public availability of literature, music, and other forms of creative arts. • 9. Digital Technology And Its Effects On The World Since the 1990's the world has experienced vast improvements in technology and what seems as an endless expansion of the Internet, and as a result, laws and legislation have had to evolve was well. Technologists and policymakers exist in "two worlds, "two cultures" when it comes to viewing a problem and developing a solution. Nevertheless, technologist and policymakers have been up against some very complex issues such as how to control piracy of copyrighted digital media. However, copyright owners have sought out legal means to protect their intellectual assets. In recent years copyright laws have been in effect to strike a balance between protecting the rights of authors, artist and copyright owners, and according to the U.S. Constitution, to "promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts." Digital technology, unlike analog technology that preceded it, can make large copies in real–time without the degradation in quality. However, as a response to these capabilities of digital technology, policymakers had to create a system of digital rights management (DRM) and other technical deterrents where digital content owners could exert control over media usage. In response to these complex issues, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) of 1998 was passed. Digital Rights Management (DRM) is a systematic method of controlling access to copyrighted material. The purpose of DRM is to prevent the unauthorized redistribution of copyrighted digital content, in other words, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Digital World Is Affecting Today 's Youth Sandra Boyd analyzes how nearly ubiquitous access to the digital world is affecting today's youth in It 's Complicated. She explains how the "app generation" is struggling to self–identify and successfully leverage the Internet to be "app enabled." Youth's "app dependency" is a result of access to digital technology and social media at an early age, and is preventing youth from properly self–identifying themselves. This, in turn, is affecting how they build relationships and how they think creatively. The online community our group has decided to look into is the PCMasterRace subreddit. This subreddit is a community of PC gamers sharing information about computer hardware, post creative and visually appealing computer configurations (called "builds" or "rigs") and post satirical or funny pictures about trending topics. Reddit provides a platform for people with unique special interests (i.e. PC's) to communicate and collaborate; it is a place where relationships have the opportunity to be built and where creative ideas can be expressed openly. Recently, a major topic of this subreddit has been to "help console peasants ascend" to the ranks of the PC Master Race. Console peasants often deny that PCs outrank consoles in terms of performance and ability when gaming and respond to PCMasterRace commentary by posting nonsense, making claims that playing at suboptimal graphics settings on their consoles make for a better atmosphere and an overall superior gaming experience. ... • 13. Digital Reality And Its Effect On The Real World Virtual reality, which is mainly abbreviated as VR is about technologies of the computer that utilizes software to produce images that are realistic as well as sounds and different other sensations that imitate the real world. It is seen as if it creates an environment that is imagined. Moreover, VR fakes the physical presence of the user in the created setting by making it possible for the user to relate with the objects portrayed in the space through the use of specific screens for displaying or other devices such as projectors. VR is therefore said to create a three dimensional (3D) setting that people interact with. Technology is on its early phase as gadgets continue to crop, there by promising on the growth (Eadicicco, 2016). VR has had many uses. For example in education and training, VR, through its immersive qualities enhances learning. It has been used in video games through its incorporation with graphics, input technology and sound. In entertainment, VR has been utilized in simulators. Moreover, its use in fine arts is immersive and many notable artists like Jeffrey Shaw and Char Davies's works have incorporated it. In engineering, VR has been used in aerospace and automobiles and it is believed to have a potential to add more dimensions to product building, virtual prototyping and cases involving performance use. In therapy, it has been applied to different exposure forms like in the treatment of phobia. According to Robison, Liu & Apuzzo (2011) in their study ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. The World Moves Forward Into The Digital Age Essay As the world moves forward into the digital age, American institutions must adapt to serve the needs of a digital society. The Newspaper industry has not entered the digital age unscathed; several issues of the current business model must be addressing if Newspapers are to survive the century. Americans and especially the younger generations are more skeptical of the Mass Media and less likely to believe that they are non–biases and question more than ever of the legitimacy of the news stories put out by the press. And as the world becomes a smaller community people are more concerned with international affairs and less local issues unless directly affecting them. Once one of the only outlets for advertisers to reach, large audiences Newspapers are heavily dependent on ad sales, which can cause an issue if every person in America has a portable device that spews ads at them all day. During the 2008 financial crisis, newspapers saw the largest drop in revenue from advertising sales since the great depression. The drop in sales affected every sector of the Industry's market. Revenue from advertisements is the largest portion of the total income for newspapers; the dramatic decline was and is devastating for not only local but also national newspapers. In 2009 the total amount of spending on advertisements fell by 12.9% across all industries. • 17. Deviant Behavior In The Digital World Chapter 13 Suler discusses the different kinds of deviant behavior in the digital world. Advances in technology have resulted in new forms of deviance as well as new forms of control. The internet is the place for deviance because of the lack of proper constraints and restraints on associations. The internet has the ability to form communities that creates and supports behaviors that are no longer a norm. Deviant activities often reflect the individual's inappropriate behavior through email, news group messages, and chat room conversations. The different forms of cyber deviances are sexual deviance, self–harm cyber communities, hate groups, and cyber stalking. With existing detailed guidelines and rules governed by authorities on the use of internet, cyber citizens still continue to exhibit unacceptable behaviors. Suler stated that cyber deviant can be rated from mild to severe, depending on its intentions to do harm to others. Sexual deviance online refers to various ways of viewing and collecting pornographic material. For instance, some individuals will use photographs of young women and teenage girl's that they take from their social media profiles and posted on a pornography website without their permission. • 19. Gender And Technology Has Become A Important Factor Within... Gender and technology has become a very important factor within today's society, as it reflects upon the overlaps between gender, digital technologies and democracy. Technology has presented both genders in provocative ways that tends to lead to sexual harassment and then for political action to end gender based violence. This then becomes essential and fundamental to the working of and towards a healthy democracy. The term Cyberfeminism has been developed throughout the previous years as feminists who are interested in exploiting with technologies, such as the Internet and cyber– space think it is a vehicle of freedom from the dissolution of sex and gender. An example of online digital media that illustrates the case of gender of Cyberfeminism is the online media campaign called "Free The Nipple." This essay will firstly describe this cyberfeminism campaign and how it is relevant towards gender and technology. Then it will examine how digital media can be used as a form of resistance against stereotypes and ideological assumptions in relation to the role of women in contemporary society. Thus the difference between men and women become relevant to these media phenomena and is of importance for gender patterns when considering it in relation to the Internet. (Bimber, 3) On December 12th, 2014, was the initial release of "Free The Nipple" campaign, which is and/or was targeting all kinds of women from around the world to empower them and to be apart of the equality movement. ... • 21. Managing Of The Digital World Chapter 1: Managing in the Digital World One of the biggest focuses of Chapter 1 was the 5 megatrends of Information Technology. The textbook identified Mobile, Social Media, Internet of Things, Cloud Computing and Big Data as the big five (Valacich 2016). Personally, I have observed this shift in my IT career in K–12 Education. Initially, schools were primarily Windows OS desktops and laptops. However over time, it's definitely shifted to a Post–PC environment. 1–1 device programs have triggered a heavy shift to mobile devices such as ipads and other tablets. As a district IT department this has greatly changed both the demands of our physical infrastructure as well procedures and expectations of our staff. New metrics, knowledge and in some cases positions are needed. Social Media, has also changed the workplace. Districts, can utilize social media to better connect with parents. As a result, there is now less emphasis on older means for connecting with parents such as analog messaging systems. The internet of things also comes into play. Nowadays, there are an ever increasing number of systems that need connectivity. GPS on buses, HVAC systems, smart watches, prox cards and background check machines to name a few. Cloud Computing is always a factor. With high speed WAN connections and more affordable storage we are constantly evaluating and transitioning systems to the cloud to decrease our hardware and overhead costs. Intellectual Property Interconnected Digital World Intellectual Property in an Interconnected Digital World Introduction The concept of intellectual property, copyrights, and patents has been around for many years. The ancient Greeks had already started to attribute authorship of works to individuals. The purpose is to encourage people to make new inventions by rewarding them with the exclusive right to "own" their ideas. Laws have been made to prohibit people from taking other people's ideas unlawfully (i.e., stealing) and in general, these laws have been successful in preventing the crime before it is done, and punishing the criminals after it is done. However, in recent years, the new phenomena of the Internet and digital technology will change both the concept of intellectual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is not hard to prove that an object belongs to its rightful owner, and therefore, it is not much more difficult to tell when someone takes other people's physical property. In other words, it is relatively easy to tell if someone is stealing an intellectual property when stealing a physical object is involved. It is also very easy to see a violation of intellectual property law when someone makes an obvious effort that shows his intention of stealing. If a person joins a high tech company to be part of the chip design team and then five months later leaves the company to join a competitor which suddenly releases a similar product with a similar bug, it will not be long until the former company files a trade secret lawsuit against that person. Even though we cannot see or prove the actual action of stealing, we are able to deduct that that person is stealing just by observing what he did. These factors that help us determine if a violation has been committed are useless in the new realm of the Internet and digital technology. Once converted to digital format, ideas that took form of writing and music are now just a sequence of zeros and ones. They do not have a physical form at all and become very abstract. It is hard to determine what belongs to who when the object is very abstract. Even if we agree that a specific sequence of binaries "belong" to its owner, it is virtually impossible ... Because people pay so much attention to their social medias, the form of web communication slowly strips the ability to physically interact confidently with others. For example, there are kids and teens out there who grew up with online friends because they spent most of their childhood indoor playing games and meeting people online. In Wall–E, all the humans do up in space is stare at a large screen projector. In fact, they are so invested in technology that they do not acknowledge the existence of those around them. There is not a single character who takes a moment to speak to another human sitting right beside them. In "Brave New World of Digital Intimacy", Thompson declares "And when they do socialize face to face, it feels oddly as if they've never been apart. They don't need to ask, "so what have you been up to?" because they already know." He indicates that people spend so much time on the internet chatting and catching up with each other that it feels awkward to speak in person again because they are not used to physical contact. People who use these applications are able to see and communicate with their friends or families just across the screen. While the world today may seem new and unique, this digital world arose out of a combination of many smaller steps that varied from innovations like a new discovery in science or a new philosophical outlook. In their writings Lev Manovich, a professor of New Media at San Diego University, and Dr. Simon Cook, an Economics professor at Duke University, have developed of a history of what lead to the development of the visual world. Manovich and Cook created a strong structure for a digital history, however, the two failed to make note of a few critical aspects that compliment and add more depth to this history. Both scholars place too much emphasis on setting a specific beginning to this history. Manovich and Cook, also, fail to incorporate the work of Charles Dogson, otherwise known as Lewis Carroll, into the late– Victorian history, and fail to note the importance of technological developments in creation of the modern digital world. Finding the actual beginning of the digital history might not be possible and unnecessarily weakens the narrative. Lev Manovich believes that this history behind the digital world of today began with developments in the late–Victorian time period. Cook refutes this belief and notes that the major contributors to late Victorian visual reasoning called upon the influence of already existing mathematics to develop their charts and graphs. The late Victorian time period, however, remains the initial time period where these influences related to the history of the creation of the digital world of today (Cook 6–7). It is most often referred to as the divide between "those with access to new technologies and those without" (Irving) or between "haves and have–nots"(Hecht) in terms of information technologies. However, using "access" to define digital divide is quite improper, since an opportunity to log on to the Web does not imply knowledge to use it efficiently. For example, situation in an underdeveloped country will not improve dramatically even if new technologies were artificially integrated in its economy, unless people have the proper skills to utilize them successfully. Likewise, the suitability of the second definition could also be questioned, as information should be measured in terms of quality, rather than of quantity, because specific information with exact economic value is what really matters in e–commerce (Foster 442–43). Probably the best way to characterize digital divide is as the growing social and economic disparities between the rich and the poor. This definition conveys an idea of the extraordinary impact of digital divide on world society and economy. Indeed, it is the close interrelation between economy and technology that attaches such a worldwide significance to a single socio–economic occurrence, such as digital divide. However, that does not mean that common courtesy should be neglected. In my opinion, the live person in front of you should take precedence over the electronic gadget in your hand. I think if people at least follow this rule, they won't go too far wrong in either their business or personal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although, this modern way of social interaction and information sharing has its advantages it can likewise have a negative impact on the lives of some individuals. This essay will suggest that while the Internet has advanced communication and is growing in popularity, the issue of bullying has similarly evolved. Consequently, cyberbullying is now a recognised problem faced in most societies and educational institutions. To deal with this new phenomenon, countries such as New Zealand is proposing changes to existing laws and legislations. Effects Of Digimon On Anime Digimon, is a rather well done series, for one, it's not a Pokemon rip–off, as many people assume), so let's get that out of the way, it's not Pokemon, so let's treat it like such. But, that's off topic. The franchise is one of the popular ones, considering how many seasons and series, the television series had. So we need to talk about the impact Digimon did on Anime, as I'm sure it did SOMETHING. Now the reason why I choose this topic, is that this television show was popular when I was little. Not only that, but very few people actually know about the magna version of Digimon, because this adaptation of its magna's counterpart so obscure, compared to the anime, which, compared to the television series, at least people that I know have seen ... Further the big data revolution has progressed and there have been changes in way people socialize, work and shop etc. My view of the way the digital continent would be developed would be: 1. Smart houses will have Intelligent agents that will dim lights, open and close the windows, water your plants and feed pets. Biometric sensors will recognize you as you enter your home. When you get home from work, the house is warm, the kettle is on and an alarm reminds you to mow the lawn. It can even take instructions from your mobile phone, connect to your car and has a programmable thermostat. Technology revolutionizing care for the elderly, people with physical and mental disabilities by allowing them to look after themselves to help them get up, prepare food, make hands–free phone calls and remind them to take their medication. Smart houses will have facial recognition software which works out who is coming through the door and adjusts setting to their preferences – whether it is food choices or bathwater temperature. It provides assistance for cognitive or physical limitations. Individuals with dementia might start to cook, and then wander off and the stove is still on. To better understand the digital divide, a person must first understand the correlation between lifelong learners, adult education, and the digital divide. In the United States the thirst for knowledge is at an all–time high and many people may ask the question why? One of the key reasons is in the United States many Americans consider themselves lifelong learners. • 72. A Digital World Of Information And Communication To prepare our students to succeed in a digital world of information and communication, it is imperative for us to begin thinking about reading and literacy in a new way. Our students must be proficient in what scholars describe as "new literacies." This relatively new perspective in literacy instruction acknowledges and investigates the literacy practices that are borne out of digital technology (Houtman, 2013). In today's world, being a proficient learner requires more than the traditional literacy skills of reading and writing. Students must gain adeptness with the tools of technology and construct meaning from various textual forms (e.g., images, sounds, and videos). Moreover, students must learn specific strategies to navigate the internet and tap into the higher order thinking skills of creating, critiquing and communicating ideas in a credible way. A student's ability to read, write, problem–solve, work as part of a team, think critically, and use information from innovative technologies is essential to their education. The latest statistics claim that over three billion individuals now use the Internet to read, write, communicate, learn, and solve important problems online (Internet World Stats, 2014). By all indications, these numbers will continue to increase. Accordingly, this moment of technological explosion raises important questions for educational leaders that speaks directly to how best to integrate these new literacies and practices into content–area ... • 74. Google's Dominance Of The Digital World Google is undoubtedly one of the biggest companies of our time. The company's search engine has become so popular that we don't look up things on the Internet anymore, we 'google' them. The company's conquest of the digital business world has led some to argue it's not just an ordinary company anymore, but rather a monopoly. But what are monopolies and is Google a digital monopoly? If so, should regulators try to find a way to limit them? This guide will look at whether we should be worried about Google's dominance in the digital world and why it might not be one of the world's most invincible companies. What is a monopoly? Before we look into the evidence of Google as a monopoly, it is important to understand what a monopoly is. The word is often used in the media, but not always in its proper meaning. In its essence a monopoly is a situation in which only a single company or group has the ownership of nearly all or all of the market for the given product or service. Therefore, a monopoly is a situation where competition is absent. In a strict academic sense the extreme case of capitalism is characterised as a market containing a single operator. Such situation often results in increased prices and even inferior products as the group has no competition in the market. Because of this, monopolies are tightly controlled in the modern world and therefore the strict definition of monopoly is highly unlikely in the modern world. If a single company would control a ... • 78. The Effects Of Digital Etiquette In The Digital Age Digital etiquette is a modern variation of the old adage "treat others the way you want to be treated" (Behrens, n.d.) . This is an important yet difficult lesson to teach children in the digital age because they spend less time participating in face–to–face encounters and more time behind a screen. In fact children ages 8–18 spend approximately 7.5 hours using technology and social media (New Research, 2014). What makes this lesson so difficult is the fact that because children spend so much time behind a screen interacting with people, they spend less time reading people's emotions and seeing how their words affect other people. In fact, many adults struggle to come to this realization as well. Based on my own personal experience on social media, many adults still react to situations they come across online emotionally and do not necessarily think about what they are posting and how their words affect the people that are reading them. This is evident with the amount of arguments that occur mostly in the comment section on social media. In fact, social media is an excellent source of poor digital etiquette with all of the fights, swearing, and belittling of others that occurs on these platforms (Digital Etiquette, 2008). This is largely because of the misinterpretations that can happen when communicating digitally verses communicating face to face. It is difficult to interpret the context from which someone is speaking. It is essential that adults slow down with their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
