Corrie Ten Boom Analysis
I believe that any obstacle or disadvantage can be made into something positive. The story of Corrie
ten Boom, a Polish holocaust victim, and two homeschooled friends I know with cerebral palsy
prove this point in many ways.
In the mid–eighteenth century, World War II brought chaos and genocide into center stage in the
world arena. Jews were being torn from their homes and sent to concentration camps, where they
would either die instantly or be made to work under unthinkably brutal conditions. Corrie ten Boom,
a middle–aged Polish woman, worked together with her whole family to help hide Jews in a secret
room in her house. Once the operation was revealed to Nazi authorities, however, most of the ten
Booms were shipped off to concentration camps where they suffered isolation, humiliation,
starvation, and severe physical and emotional pain. Corrie even ... Show more content on

One has to use crutches and the other must use a motorized wheelchair to get around. These two
teens and I participated with a homeschool theater company to put on a musical about being
"different". One of the young men was chosen to be the lead role, the "ugly duckling" that everyone
labeled as useless and odd. Through this simple play, the cast demonstrated that being "different"
from everyone else does not have to be a setback. Though these two have had to deal with constant
and debilitating disadvantages throughout their lives, they still face their struggles with courage and
humility. Their personalities shine and they treat others with respect. Having met them personally, I
can testify that their lives are touching other people's lives and are encouraging others who have
physical, mental, or emotional disabilities. By simply living their lives with positive attitudes and
participating in a touching summer musical, they directly and indirectly show that disadvantages are
not the end of the story: good can always come out of

Corrie Ten Boom From The Hiding Place And Anne Frank
Corrie Ten Boom from The Hiding Place and Anne Frank From Anne Frank 's Diary were two of the
of the many people that were living during the Holocaust period. The Holocaust which took place in
the late 1930's and throughout the 1940's Adolf Hitler an anti–Jewish man came to power in
Germany. During this Germany was in a great depression due to their loss of World War One. Hitler
promised restoration and power and he was easily accepted. Once Adolf was in power he began to
invade countries around them like Poland and Holland. Hitler began to send Jews away to camps.
He then began to rampage around the countries capturing the Jews and sending them to the camps
where we later found out how they brutally killed the Jews. Before some of the Jews were captured,
they went into hiding. That's where our two stories came from our first is The Hiding Place and the
other is The Annex. Although these are not the only stories about Jews hiding from the Nazis these
are some of the most extreme. While comparing Corrie and Anne their personality, experience, and
final outcomes we see that there are similarities and difference. Anne and Corrie had many different
and similar personality. Anna had a very young, and spunky personality. She loved to talk and move
around. Peter said, "All right, Mrs. Quack Quack." Indicating that she talks way too much. "I only
want some fun . . . someone to laugh and clown with . . . After you've sat still all day and hardly
moved, you've got to have some fun",

The Hiding Place Corrie Ten Boom Analysis
Jewish Children during the Holocaust In the book The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom, tells the
story about her life during World War Two in the Netherlands. Corrie being the strong christian felt
that it was right to lead an anti– Nazi operation, in helping to hide her Jewish friends inside of her
house. Homeowners during World War Two were able to help the Jewish people hide from the
Nazis, knowing the serious consequences if they were caught in the act. Although, she helped many
Jewish people survive, the living conditions were awful for most. Jewish citizens of the Netherlands
were hidden anywhere that they could be in order to evade deportation. As the Nazis proceeded ,
many Jews sought to evade the deportation orders by hiding. These ... Show more content on

Aryans were any Jewish citizen that looked like a typical person native to the land that they were
living and had the ability to speak the native language. Most however were unable to be applied to
both of these charactersistics so they had to be hidden. If both of those characterstics applied to you
it was crucial in case of an emergency that you had false identification papers ('Hidden"). False
identification, most of the time in which were gotten from anti–Nazi resistance groups, allowed for
Jewish citizens to trick Nazi soldiers into thinking that they were not. Although, very useful, false
identification papers very dangerous for the bearer since German soldiers checked them very
closely. For most, it was worth the risk in order for them to go on living their lives as normally as
they could and to keep from being deported ("Hidden"). "It is possible that I appear to you a
powerful person. I wear a unifrom, I have a certain authority over those under me. But I am in
prison, dear lady from Haarlem, a prison stronger than this one." (ten Boom 153). In this quote it
shows how even if the Nazi soldiers were free, they still believed that they were under a greater evil,
which was Adolf Hitler, the leader of the

The theme of selfless service and unflinching love in the face of persecution dominates the work of
Corrie ten Boom in THE HIDING PLACE. Through the lens of her Christian upbringing, ten Boom
articulately recounts her life's journey from a small child living in a bustling Dutch city to a vapid,
malnourished prisoner of the German Nazis. Through her life's struggle, she hopes to inspire others
and teach a new generation about the value of life and the innate capacity that all possess–to fully
love one another.
THE HIDING PLACE recounts Corrie ten Boom's intriguing life story. Casper ten Boom and
Cornelia ten Boom were married and started a family in the late 1800s in Haarlem, Holland.

This visit marked a turning point for Corrie. Through the Bulldog's" anecdotes of harassment and
difficulty, she was able to personalize the wrath of the German soldiers. She experienced first–hand
the effects that the persecution had on Haarlem's Jews. Over the next few weeks, Jews began
furtively arriving at the Beje under the cover of night in order to escape their captors. Corrie, Betsie,
and their father welcomed these new guests with open arms, but the ten Booms knew that the Jews
would not be able to stay for very long. Ration cards were scarce and food would soon run out.
Corrie turned to her brother Willem, who worked with the Underground Resistance. Willem
arranged for the transportation of the Jews to the countryside, but Corrie knew that his help would
only last for so long. For her to be successful at helping the Jews, she needed to make her own
connections and arrange her own system of dealings. She arranged for ration cards to be dropped off
at the Beje, kept in contact with the Resistance's top leaders, and had alarm systems and a secret
hiding place in her room built. The Beje turned into the hub of the Jewish underground movement in
Haarlem under the guise of a petty watch repair shop. Putting their personal safety at risk week after
week, month after month, the ten Booms oversaw hundreds of Jews taken to

Corrie Ten Boom : The Woman Who Forgave
"Corrie ten Boom: The Woman Who Forgave"
Before May of 1940, Cornelia Arnolda Johanna ten Boom would have said her life was uneventful.
But then everything changed. World War II started around September of 1939. The ten Boom family
was not Jewish, but they had a strong moral and could not stand the ways the Jews were treated. The
German Blitzkrieg ran through the Netherlands in May 1940 and mistreatment of Jews started in the
ten Boom's town a couple months later (ten Boom, Sherrill, and Sherrill 27). Corrie ten Boom was
an assertive woman who is credited for saving hundreds of lives during the Holocaust through her
acts of courage, faith, and forgiveness.

The first man Corrie ever helped herself needed to escape from Holland, so Corrie found him a safe
place and time to escape. Soon, people were coming to the ten Boom house needing a place to stay
and the family realized that these people needed a more secure place, especially because the house
of the ten Booms was just half a block from police headquarters. This is when they decided to build
the secret room (Popson 45). The secret room was a room in the back of the third floor just beyond
Corrie and Nollie's room. The room could hold about eight people and it was usually full ("Corrie
ten Boom I"). On February 28 of 1944, all the members in the ten Boom household were arrested
for their acts of hiding and deporting Jews. Besides the ten Boom family, twenty–nine others were
arrested. That day, their house had been raided, but no Jews or evidence was found. Corrie was
fifty–three at this time (Popson 46). Once in jail, Corrie was known as the ringleader because she
spoke up to protect her father. This act put her into solitary confinement. Soon, a nurse working at
the jail secretly gave Corrie scripture to read in her cell . Soon after the arrest, Corrie's family was
released except for her father, herself and her sister, Betsie (47). After just nine days in

Sacrifice: Colson, Corrie Ten Boom, And The Bible
Sacrifice Sacrifice, it is an action known to all, few understand it's meaning, and little accomplish it.
Sacrifice means surrendering all to something. But is a cause worth the sacrifice of one person? Do
the lives of the many really outweigh the lives of the few? The humble lives of Charles Colson,
Corrie ten Boom, and Jesus Christ clearly illustrate what sacrifice is. Moreover, in their classic
books, Born Again, The Hiding Place, and the Bible all of these heros must determine if
surrendering their lives is worth the lives of the many. Everyone agrees that these three people
sacrificed their lives for something. Some value one man's life so significantly that no cause is worth
sacrificing a life. Nevertheless, some believe that a cause ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Amazingly, the Word of God pronounces what an incredible thing Jesus did, "And the Word became
flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full
of grace and truth" (John 1:14). Christ was willing to sacrifice His life in heaven and come to the
darkness of earth and walk with sinful creatures. Humbly, Jesus comforted others and illustrated
compassion for the worst sinners. As declared in the Bible, "And he went throughout all Galilee,
teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease
and every affliction among the people" (Matthew 4:23). Christ's cause exceeded His comfort zone,
and He taught and healed sinners. Like children struggling to overcome the powerful tug of the
ocean's current, so humans were imprisoned by the unyielding tug of sin. The Son of Man's cause
was to save man from this paralyzing current. Jesus was even nailed to a rough tree and died on our
behalf. The Bible states this, "But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners,
Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). He valued our freedom with Him so much He was willing to die
to secure it. Jesus demonstrates that the true meaning of sacrifice is love. Therefore, Christ's cause is
the freedom of mankind, and He was prepared to enter a dark world, heal the sick, and even be
crucified for His

Book Review: The Hiding Place By Corrie Ten Boom
Many books have been written about people's experiences during World War II. One such book that
tells a powerful story is The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom. Corrie was a brave woman who
knew her place in God's tapestry. Even though she faced starvation, discrimination, alienation, fear,
and death, she survived and came out the other side feeling joyful and still had unwavering faith in
God. Corrie's autobiography explains how God used her and how she was able to overcome these
trials and forgive her oppressors. One of the first things Corrie personally learned was that God can
use anyone. Corrie was a fifty year old spinster who worked in her father's clock shop. She thought
that she would spend the rest of her life in the beje. She repaired ... Show more content on

Corrie liked 1 Thessalonians 5:18, "Give thanks in all circumstance; for this is God's will in Christ."
because she often found ways to give thanks in positive or negative scenarios. While in
Ravensbruck, a concentration camp, she struggled with her faith and lost courage. When this
happened, Corrie went back to the Bible for help. If God knew the number of hairs on her head, He
surely could not forget about her. After she was released from Ravensbruck, she felt that she needed
to share what she had gone through. If public speaking was right for Corrie, God would give her the
power to do it. She had to trust that God would enable her.
Corrie once said,"Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God," (Boom 3). She did
exactly that when took on the challenge of hiding Jews in her own house. The consequence of doing
so was going to prison and possibly concentration camp. Even though she did get caught and go to
both concentration camp and jail, she never backed down and always found renewed strength and
comfort in the Bible. Corrie also felt a calling to minister to others while in Ravensbruck. She and
her sister Betsie would hold prayer circles, even there would be serious punishment if they were

The Hiding Place Corrie Ten Boom Analysis
The Hiding Place Book Critique
The Hiding Place, by Corrie ten Boom, is an extensive study of how World War II, more specifically
the Holocaust, affected those living in Holland. The author's intent is to educate is to educate people
of how ordinary people residing in countries affected by the war and its consequences jeopardized
their lives in an effort to save those who were endangered. Ten Boom's thesis is that the ultimate
hiding place is not tangible, but it can be found in God's word. She successfully demonstrates how
the Holocaust altered and defined the lives of those living in Western Europe.
Ten Boom argues that the Holocaust greatly influenced the living conditions of Western Europeans
residing as, or among, Jews. As the Germans

Corrie Ten Boom In times of peril, a hero rises to protect those who cannot protect themselves.
Movies tell us heroes are from a different world, wear a suit of armor/cape, or wield superhuman
abilities; however, real–life heroes do not fit that mold. In reality, heroes, come in many forms and
need little more than courage and boldness to do what is right when no one else will. By all
accounts, Corrie Ten Boom, a nearly 50–year old Dutch woman, should not have been a heroine.
However, when she saw an injustice, she took a stand as a visionary leader and used inspirational
motivation to rally support for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I also displayed intellectual autonomy to hold my ground on a security issue, which led to an ethical
dilemma. As difficult as it was, I made a decision and the five–step ethical decision making process
proves it was the right one. Despite the circumstances, Corrie was a visionary. She saw people in
need and she drew a line in the sand. There was no suit of armor and no cape, just Corrie, as she
seemingly echoed the words of Isaiah, "Here am I. Send me!" (Isaiah 6:8, New International Version
[NIV]).
Visionary Leader Corrie Ten Boom exemplified the characteristics of a visionary leader through her
inspirational motivation in the Dutch underground resistance against Nazi Germany. Corrie
witnessed the Jewish oppression at the hands of the Nazis and rejected it (Straub, 1992). One night,
a Jewish woman went to Corrie and asked for help and Corrie agreed. Soon, Corrie became an
active part of the Dutch underground resistance and worked to save the Jews (Ten Boom, 2006).
Here, Corrie used her gift of inspirational motivation to inspire and motivate others to join the
resistance or support the effort by providing food ration cards, supplies, or safe passage for the Jews
and resistance workers. She even had a hidden room built in her house to hide the Jews residing
there (Straub, 1992; Ten Boom, 2006). Corrie's leadership clearly displayed her ability to lead with
inspirational motivation, which is when followers are

The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom
The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom started with the 100th anniversary of the founding of the ten
Boom Watch shop in Haarlem, Holland. Highly respected for their deep religious faith, the ten
Boom family gave help to anyone who might need it. The celebration took place in 1937, under the
shadow of World War II as well as the rise of Nazism. The Dutch people, believing that their
neutrality would be honored as it had in World War 1, could not have imagined the horrors that
would soon befall them. The main setting of The Hiding Place, an old, strangely built Dutch house
where Corrie was born, included a secret room that was built to hide Jews and political prisoners
who were fleeing Nazi persecution. The large home was a beloved part of Corrie's Childhood. It was
often used as the backdrop to remember her childhood. She recalled memories of her family: a
father whose faith and education was prized above all; a mother who often helped the poor and sick;
an older sister who was her greatest and most trusted friend; an older brother who was an ordained
Protestant minister while also working for the Resistance Movement later on; and the people in
Haarlem who valued her family and their contributions to the city. Eventually, Corrie, her father, and
her sister, Betsie, faced the Nazi invasion and became part of the resistance movement. They aided
those who were fleeing the Nazis by providing a place to stay and building a secret room which they
could hide in if there were ever a

Corrie ten Boom grew up in a strong, Christian home. Religion played a huge role in her life. Her
family was always assisting anyone who needed help. Whether it was taking in foster kids, giving
money to those who needed it or offering food and shelter to Jews during World War II, her family
was always offering to help people in need. The ten Boom family took in over eight hundred Jews,
attempting to save them from the Gestapo. The ten Boom's were very brave and stood up for what
they believed in, even if it meant getting caught and taken to concentration camps.
Corrie ten Boom was born on April 15, 1892 in Haarlem, Netherlands. She was the youngest of
three siblings. Her sisters were Betsie and Nollie and her brother was Willem. The ten Boom's lived
above the storefront shop her father took over as a watchmaker. Above the shop is where they
sheltered many Jews during World War II. There was a secret room, about the size of a small
wardrobe behind Corrie's bedroom. This is where the Jews would hide. Staying still and silent at all
times, so nobody would suspect there whereabouts. The small room could hold up to six people.
Some stayed for a few hours, others stayed for a few days or until a safer place was found for them

Several of the women gather around together for a night of reading the Bible and praying in faith. A
woman sitting just a few feet away began to challenge the Ten Boom sisters who were seemingly
leading this nightly tradition. The agitated woman yelled, and complained about their bleak

loving, then why did he let you come here. Corrie and Betsie Ten Boom both speak out in faith
during this scene. They inform this woman about how God has been faithful to them, they talk about
how even in the midst of the darkness God is guiding them through, because they trust in Him and
have faith even when things seem grim and hopeless. In this, we see the belief perseverance that
Corrie and Betsie hold dear. The belief that even though the world is a dark place that there is still
hope. When everything in their lives is stripped from them and everything is grim and dark, they
still hold firmly to the light God brings into their lives.
In The Hiding Place, the Ten Boom family is exposed to the injustice and the suffering that every

Choosing To My Life By Corrie Ten Boom
Any step that removes sorrow from your life is a step in the right direction. Choosing to invite
happiness into your life is the journey most worthy to embark these steps on. I've come up with
three steps that justify the values of a quote from Corrie ten Boom that says, "Worry does not empty
tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength." For anyone going through a sorrowful
situation, a happier lifestyle is a few thoughts away. The three steps to a happier life in the midst of a
sad situation is: accepting a problem for what it is, letting go of negativity, and thinking positivity.
The first step to releasing worry from your life is accepting the problem you are facing. My struggle
started when I learned my brother, Sam, had AML leukemia and would have to undergo
chemotherapy treatments. It is important that people get the facts and ... Show more content on

Worrying too much will not create a better tomorrow. Once a person gives up a pessimistic lifestyle,
he or she can gain control over their thoughts and emotions. Letting go of negativity leaves you
vulnerable to have thoughts that still may not improve your well–being. You must choose to see the
good in the world and find something to believe in. Personally, I believe that for every heartbreak in
life, there is also something to to be rejoiced. Learning that a loved one has cancer is devastating,
but seeing them heal is remarkable. Choose to have a mindset that contributes to a happy lifestyle.
Learn to realize how many good opportunities a bad situation gives you. I was able to witness some
events in a whole new light. For example, most people don't get to experience growing their hair
back or gaining muscle back at such a fast pace. These experiences prove how much an illness can
take away and how quickly a strong mindset can restore that deficit. A good outlook on life will heal
and strengthen anyone who chooses happiness over

The Hiding Place Corrie Ten Boom Analysis
God's laws are meant to be superior over all of us. There may be severe punishments if breaking
one. In The Hiding Place, Corrie ten Boom wants to help the Jews, who were being persecuted by
the Nazis. To hide them, she would have to break the Nazi's laws and God's laws. The question is...
Is it acceptable to break God's commandments when there is evil and hatred in the world? No or
Yes? While it is acceptable to break the Nazi's laws that they enforced, you cannot break God's laws.
The Nazis did not have God in their hearts and also didn't want God's people either, so it is okay to
break their laws, because they're not for God himself. Although God's laws are meant to be there

It says, "For the person who keeps all of the laws except one is as guilty as a person who has broken
all of God's laws". This verse means that breaking one law is the same thing as breaking all of them.
Whether you murder or lie, it is still a sin. And breaking one sin and keeping the rest is like breaking
all. God does not like this, and in fact, he hates (even though He's a loving God) when people do not
abide to His laws. Corrie, when trying to hide the Jews in her bedroom, lied to the police about the
Jews. She also lied about having only one radio and the men under the table. I am not trying to say
that Corrie is a bad person because she sinned a lot, I'm trying to point out that even though it would
help lives, it was still breaking God's commands. Lastly, an example from the book, The Hiding
Place, is on page 126 in Chapter 7. This is were Nollie, Corrie's sister, tells the truth that their maid,
Annaliese, was a Jew. Nollie later tells Corrie that God honors honesty always. She also tells Corrie
that Annaliese was perfectly fine because God is on her and their side. Corrie then notices that
telling all of these lies are a sin just like stealing ration cards. She worries about having punishments

Corrie Ten Boom in World War II
Introduction
This Flyer is based on WWII, and the Ten Boom family. Corrie Ten Boom is one of the family
members. Her family and her, helped many people in WWII, and risked their lives to save other
people. They helped other people because the Nazis were looking for them. The Family were
Christians, and would help anyone no mater what.
Early Life
Corrie Ten Boom was born on April 15, 1892, in Haarlem, Netherlands. In her family, Corrie was
the youngest child. She had one brother, Willem, and two sisters, Betsie and Nollie. Her father was
Casper Boom, and was a watchmaker and jeweler.
They lived in the Barteljorisstraat house in Haarlem ( Beje house ). Below was their fathers watch
shop and above they had their rooms. Their house was "open" to anyone who needed a place to stay.
They would hide jews and dutch underground workers until they could find another safe house. In
Corrie's bedroom she had a secret hiding place, for up to six people. This was a place for people to
go when security came through the house. And their was an air system that was installed in the
hiding place as well.
Beje Movement
In the "Beje" movement, Corrie became the leader, who would look for other "safe houses" in the
country. She would search for Dutch families who were brave enough to take in people. Most of her
life was spent trying to protect, and keep them hidden from the Nazis. Through her hard work she
was able to save over 800 people in WWII.

the essence and soul of Corrie Ten Boom – a devout Christian watchmaker who saved nearly 800
individuals from the horrors of World War II, and as a result was placed in a concentration camp
herself.
Tentative Thesis Statement: The four main characteristics that characterized Corrie Ten Boom as a
hero are the following: selflessness, loyalty, and resilience.
1st Body Paragraph – Topic Sentence: Considering her history before and after the war, many would
say that Corrie was the epitome of selflessness – she would put others before herself, in every way
imaginable.

She later learned that her release had been a clerical error – a week after she was released, all the
woman her age were executed. She traveled around the world as an evangelist, motivational speaker,
and social critic, speaking about her experiences in Ravensbrueck as she offered her own provisions
to prisoners. In 1947 she was speaking in Berlin, and a certain man approached Corrie – who
recognized him as one of the more harsh guards who had held her captive at Ravensbrück – asked
her to forgive him of what he had done to her and her sister. Her immediate emotional reaction was
a sense of revulsion and resentment. But at that moment Corrie says she knew God's love for the
man was greater than her own hatred for him. So, she looked at the man and said, "I forgive you of
everything." Through all she had gone through she was still able to recover and go on with her life
in the most fulfilling way possible – changing others for the better and giving them a second chance

The Hiding Place Corrie Ten Boom Quotes
The book, The Hiding Place, is a biography on Corrie Ten Boom and her family's struggles during
the Holocaust. The book takes place before World War I through World War II. Corrie and her
family lived in the Netherlands in the time of the Holocaust where they owned a build and repair
shop for watches. She had two sisters named Betsie and Nollie, and one brother named Willem. Her
father did most of the work with the watch shop, and her mother died when she was a little girl. In
1940 when the Nazis started invading the Netherlands, they would often find people praying in their
shop because they were scared. The Ten Boom family begins taking in Jews and giving them a place

This book had a lot to do with religion because people were scared and looked to God for answers.
A quote that I believe goes with this is one from Corrie where she says ,"Lord Jesus, You were
called to a hearing, too. Show me what to do." (Page 118 of Chapter 11) This reiterates that she was
looking to God on what she should do. A theme that branches off of religion was faith. Faith played
a very important role throughout the book, from normal practices of faith in the beginning of the
book to Corrie using faith to keep strong in the labor camps. One quote that I feel describes this is,
"But if God has shown us bad times ahead it's enough for that he knows about them. That's why he
sometimes shows us things you know, to tell us that this too is in his hands,"(page 50 of Chapter 5)
This quote shows that Corrie has faith in God that he has it all under control. All in all, I enjoyed
reading this book a lot. It showed me a lot of different side of the Holocaust that I previously did not
know. I think the best way to prevent terrible events from history from happening again is to learn
more about them, and I believe this book does a great job in teaching the hardships and truths about

Corrie Ten Boom Of The Holocaust
Corrie Ten Boom is the daughter of a popular watchmaker and christian living in Holland during the
beginning of Hitler, the Nazis, and hatred against Jews. The Ten Boom's, however, always do the
right thing and help anyone in need. Before their mother died, their household was always full of
poor neighbors needing food or tea or anything else they could provide. This kindness continues into
the beginning of the Holocaust. Corrie begins to join an underground system, involved with helping
and sheltering Jews. At first, she was just trying to get some to different places where they would be
safe, however. Corrie got so involved that the watch shop, called the Beje. became the center. She
had monthly deliveries of food ration card, new Jews would show up to her door almost weekly, and
the rest of the people involved in the underground had a secret code or phone calls, revolving around
watch–talk. Eventually, Corrie could not find a place or a man, so he ended up living with the Ten
Booms. They ended building a secret room with an elaborate warning system installed. They had
many Jews living in that room, but little did she know that the entire town knew of her work in the
underground and o the Jews in her house. Corrie ended up being caught and taken to prison, along
with her father and sister. Corrie kept her with all this time, which helped her make it through.

Corrie Ten Boom Of The Second Great War
What would you do if a lots of Jews came to your steps of your house? What would you do if you
knew that helping them would endanger you and your family? Would you let them in or not? Corrie
Ten Boom had to answer those exact questions. Corrie Ten Boom was a lady that let Jews into her
house even though she would get caught by the Nazi soldiers. She wasn't afraid because she knew
that God would be with her and her family and that He would want them to stand up and do all they
could for the Jews during a time that they were being killed and tortured just for being jews.
"Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God," she asserted later. Corrie had so much

Entering through a sliding panel in a closet, the Jews had to crawl on their hands and knees to hide
in the 30 inch deep medium wardrobe. In addition to the hiding place, an electronic buzzer was
installed to warn the Jews of a raid. They also drilled and practices for the times they would need to
hide because every second would count when the Nazi came. They need to have the hiding perfected
because there would not be time to think. The drills would happen any time during the day or night
just to prepare the Ten Boom family. When the Boom family was hiding the Jews and needing help
in their home, they turn to this scripture, "You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in your
word" Psalm 119:114. "On February 29, 1944 the Nazis invaded the Boom house. Six people
escaped detection because of the secret room, but Corrie and her father, sisters, and brother were
captured along with twenty five others. They were arrested for their work with the resistance."
"After the four months in prison, all the prisoners were told to pack their baggage and take the train.
When they were about to board a train Corrie saw her sister Bestie and finally both met in railway
station. They were taken to the labor camp so that they may work there. Life wasn't easy in the labor

The Hiding Place By Corrie Ten Boom Analysis
In the Hiding Place written by Corrie Ten Boom, there is a disagreement on whether it is okay or not
to break God's Laws, even in the face of evil. Corrie's sister, while hiding Jews, was asked by a Nazi
if she had any Jews in her house, and she replied with an honest answer of yes. I think that it is not
okay to break God's Laws under any circumstance. Firstly, what are God's Laws? To me, I think that
lying to spare the life of the innocent is not breaking God's Laws. If a man asked you where you
were hiding your (innocent) kids, the majority of people, if not everyone, would not give the man
the correct answer, which is okay because that is protecting the life of innocent people from death.
The same goes for killing. If killing for self–defense,

The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom
According to Corrie & Betsie Ten Boom, life was a faith–building experience. Those two women
were faced with one of the toughest experiences of their lives. Each day, Corrie and Betsie had to
persuade each other that everything was going to be okay, once they were free from the "hell", or the
concentration camp they were placed in. And, yet, Corrie and Betsie somehow managed to keep in
mind that God was with them.
Corrie Ten Boom's astonishing novel, "The Hiding Place", is an extraordinary adventure of one

Willem cared very much for people of all religions and races. He was a minister of the Dutch
Reformed Church and organized many homes – mainly for elderly Jews (although he welcomed all).
His lifestyle caught many people's attention, especially Corrie's and their sis, Betsie.
The more they got into his line of work, the more danger they were putting themselves into. They
were hiding Jews in the Beje (the large house of the Ten Booms) and they eventually got caught.
The whole Ten Boom family – father, Corrie and Betsie – had put their own lives on the line and
because of this, they were placed in a concentration camp along with all the hundreds of Jews they
had helped along the way. During the years they spent there, they watched many die and others get
beaten. They, too, were abused and persecuted for all the good of helping others.
The main theme of this story was to show the miraculous and courageous struggle of one loving and
devoted family, who put their own lives at stake to protect the lives of many others. Every night,
before they were placed in the concentration camp, the tiny family of three read a scripture from the
Bible. While in the "hell", they prayed that God would forgive the retched and brutal souls of the
Nazi guards who beat and killed many people. They put their Christian beliefs above all else. It was
more important to them that they gave up their lives to rescue others because it was the Christian
thing to do

Essay about Night by Elie Wiesel and The Hiding Place by...
The chaos and destruction that the Nazi's are causing are not changing the lives of only Jews, but
also the lives of citizens in other countries. Between Night by Elie Wiesel and The Hiding Place by
Corrie ten Boom, comradeship, faith, strength, and people of visions are crucial to the survival of
principle characters. Ironically, in both stories there is a foreseen future, that both seemed to be
ignored. Before the Great War begins affecting the Wiesel's and ten Boom's lives, both families
experience a premonition of a dark future ahead of them. Ironically, neither family chooses to listen
to these signs. In the novel Night, there are two events of visions. One is a character named Moshe

going on throughout the night until others had to beat her in order for her to be quiet. The train
arrived at Auschwitz, and as Madame Schachter began to scream again, "the train stopped, this time
we saw flames rising from a tall chimney into a black sky" (28). Whether Madame Schachter was
actually seeing the flames or they were just visions in her mind, she was a warning to the others to
be afraid of the fire. In the novel, The Hiding Place, Corrie's only brother Willem writes a doctoral
thesis of a terrible evil that is taking place in Germany. He wrote this paper at the university he was

seeds were being planted of a contempt for human life such as the world had never seen" (ten Boom

all of the rumors? Throughout experiences in both of the novels, it is clear that having friends and
connections in the camps and prisons is crucial for survival and communication. In the beginning of

a. Corrie ten Boom– Corrie ten Boom was a faithful Christian who sacrificed everything to help
hide Jews in occupied Holland during World War II. Her courage and faith helped her to survive a
German concentration camp and live on to spread God's word. In the story, Corrie played a

tell her life story of the presence of God throughout her survival of the terrors of occupation.
b. Betsie ten Boom– Betsie ten Boom was the older sister of Corrie who also devoted herself to
helping Jews during World War II. Having a passionate and optimistic approach to life, Betsie

The Hiding Place Corrie Ten Boom Analysis
The virtue of forgiveness is one that Corrie ten Boom sometimes struggles with during her
experiences in her autobiography, The Hiding Place. The harrowing events of the Holocaust and
Nazi occupation of the Netherlands left little room for tenderness towards other people yet, as Betsie
ten Boom, Corrie's older sister showed time and time again, it is always possible to find it within
oneself to forgive another, especially with God's assistance. Betsie forgives Jan Vogel, the man who
betrayed the ten Boom family to the German army. In fact, Betsie feels sorry for him, she even tells
Corrie that she prays for him because he must be suffering dreadfully. This response makes Corrie
feel guilty for being unable to so readily forgive Vogel and eventually ... Show more content on

The family's strong Christian faith contributes to their treatment of others and their belief that God is
watching over them. The family was known for caring for others prior to their involvement in the

Corrie's other sister trusts that God will protect her and the young Jewish woman she is housing,

(109). The knowledge that Annalise does escape and that Nollie was released from prison quickly
leads others to believe that maybe her trust was rewarded (110). In Scheveningen and Vught, two
prisons in which Betsie and Corrie are held, Corrie gives her Gospels to other inmates when they are
standing in the shower lines so that they may too hear God's word and feel His presence, even in
these places of darkness (161). Betsie always trusts that God has everything planned and everything
is just as it should be, even the fleas in the barracks at Ravensbruck. Later on the women come to

The Hiding Place : Corrie Ten Boom
The Hiding Place is on Corrie ten Boom, her family, and how they assisted the Jews when Germany
invaded Holland during World War II. The characters of importance are Corrie, her older sisters
Betsie and Nollie, her older brother Willem, and their father, Casper ten Boom, frequently referred
to as Opa by his family and friends. The story begins in January of 1937, in Haarlem, Holland.
Germany invades during the beginning of World War II, the German soldiers and Adolf Hitler 's
goal was the extermination of Jews. Forced to wear a yellow star on their shirt to show they were of
Jewish decent and risking captivity by the German soldier issues b simply walking around town was
an everyday. This, among other intolerance against the Jewish people, enraged Corrie and her
family. If one was caught helping in any way to hide a Jew, they also were taken captive. Corrie and
her family did not care. Her father once said, "I 'd consider it an honor to give my life for just one of
God 's chosen people." In addition, some of Corrie 's dear acquaintances were of Jewish decent. She
wanted nothing but to keep them away from harm, whatever the consequences.
0During World War II, Corrie, and her family were part of the "Dutch Underground," a covert

Betlie's Multiple Times Corrie Ten Boom
This attitude takes center stage at various points in the novel, especially during the sisters' stays at
the prison and concentration camps. Multiple times Corrie hears Betsie speak of how sorry she felt
for the German soldiers and how she wishes she could help them see the err of their ways. Betsie's
compassion towards her captors, assaulters, and enemies profoundly illustrates her love for the
human race and the desire she has that all know Christ. While in the Vught concentration camp,
Betsie states, "Corrie, if people can be taught to hate, they can be taught to love! We must find a
way, no matter how long it takes...". Betsie sees the potential for goodness in everyone she meets
despite their actions. Overall, these three themes contribute to the central message of the novel. No
matter how desperate a situation or the severity of tribulation, the love of God is greater still and His
love provides hope in times of need. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a whole, the novel contains a few weaknesses. The first weakness arises from the time difference
between the events and the writing of the novel. Corrie ten Boom wrote THE HIDING PLACE
twenty years after the fact. It is extremely likely that the events depicted in the novel are shades of
what actually occurred. Memories fade and time distorts the reality of the past and because of this, I
feel that the book would have been more factually accurate had Corrie ten Boom written it much
sooner. Another weakness in the book derives itself from ten Boom's heavy reliance on her Christian
faith. As I read the book, I felt that some of the circumstances were glossed over and events were
chocked up to being merely miracles. However, I do agree with Corrie ten Boom's major premise
throughout the novel that religion can play a crucial role during tough

Despondently and compulsively, Mary wheezes. At 76, she is old and slow, and nobody wants to

therefore He will reward Corrie, her friends, and her family for their dedication to His will even

Favorite Characters In The Hiding Place By Corrie Ten Boom
While reading The Hiding Place, I was frequently inspired by the power and insight behind Corrie
ten Boom's words. However, two of her statements particularly stood out to me. The first was when
she had said "Some knowledge is too heavy... you cannot bear it...your father will carry it until you
are able." (ten Boom 175) This phrase is so meaningful because it was a lesson she had learned from
her own father when she was young, but now she uses it in her own teaching and relates it to her
heavenly father as well. The second quote that stood out to me was when she had said "His will is
our hiding place. Lord Jesus, keep me in Your will." (ten Boom 234) This statement refers to
Corrie's realization of how everything had happened for a reason. This was her protection or "hiding
place" through the horrors of the concentration camp and her personal losses. I found these two
quotes to be the most perceptive phrases of Corrie's that spoke to me the most. My favorite character
in The Hiding Place would undeniably be Corrie's older sister, Betsie ten Boom. Betsie ten Boom
was portrayed with an incredible sense of optimism and faith that could shine a light at the darkest
of times. Another quality I admired was her merciful heart that managed to feel sorrow for enemies
and be quick to forgive. Betsie's positivity, forgiveness and faithfulness all contributed to create a
remarkable personality and character in this particular novel.

Corrie Ten Boom Research Paper
"It is not my ability, but my response 1to God's ability that counts." Corrie ten Boom helped Jews
escape the Holocaust during World War Two. Her family was devoted to serving God and standing
for what's right no matter the cost. They saved about 800 lives, but it wasn't easy. Her entire family
was imprisoned! Through the good and the bad times Corrie looked to God for guidance, and He
always provided for her.
Cornelia, also known as Corrie, was born on April 15th 1892, and is most famous for hiding Jews
during the Nazi Holocaust. She was the youngest child, and had two sisters, Nollie and Bestsie. She
dedicated her life to helping others, such as foster kids and disabled people. When the invasions
started happening her family started hiding

Corrie Ten Boom Analysis

  • 1. Corrie Ten Boom Analysis I believe that any obstacle or disadvantage can be made into something positive. The story of Corrie ten Boom, a Polish holocaust victim, and two homeschooled friends I know with cerebral palsy prove this point in many ways. In the mid–eighteenth century, World War II brought chaos and genocide into center stage in the world arena. Jews were being torn from their homes and sent to concentration camps, where they would either die instantly or be made to work under unthinkably brutal conditions. Corrie ten Boom, a middle–aged Polish woman, worked together with her whole family to help hide Jews in a secret room in her house. Once the operation was revealed to Nazi authorities, however, most of the ten Booms were shipped off to concentration camps where they suffered isolation, humiliation, starvation, and severe physical and emotional pain. Corrie even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One has to use crutches and the other must use a motorized wheelchair to get around. These two teens and I participated with a homeschool theater company to put on a musical about being "different". One of the young men was chosen to be the lead role, the "ugly duckling" that everyone labeled as useless and odd. Through this simple play, the cast demonstrated that being "different" from everyone else does not have to be a setback. Though these two have had to deal with constant and debilitating disadvantages throughout their lives, they still face their struggles with courage and humility. Their personalities shine and they treat others with respect. Having met them personally, I can testify that their lives are touching other people's lives and are encouraging others who have physical, mental, or emotional disabilities. By simply living their lives with positive attitudes and participating in a touching summer musical, they directly and indirectly show that disadvantages are not the end of the story: good can always come out of ... • 3. Corrie Ten Boom From The Hiding Place And Anne Frank Corrie Ten Boom from The Hiding Place and Anne Frank From Anne Frank 's Diary were two of the of the many people that were living during the Holocaust period. The Holocaust which took place in the late 1930's and throughout the 1940's Adolf Hitler an anti–Jewish man came to power in Germany. During this Germany was in a great depression due to their loss of World War One. Hitler promised restoration and power and he was easily accepted. Once Adolf was in power he began to invade countries around them like Poland and Holland. Hitler began to send Jews away to camps. He then began to rampage around the countries capturing the Jews and sending them to the camps where we later found out how they brutally killed the Jews. Before some of the Jews were captured, they went into hiding. That's where our two stories came from our first is The Hiding Place and the other is The Annex. Although these are not the only stories about Jews hiding from the Nazis these are some of the most extreme. While comparing Corrie and Anne their personality, experience, and final outcomes we see that there are similarities and difference. Anne and Corrie had many different and similar personality. Anna had a very young, and spunky personality. She loved to talk and move around. Peter said, "All right, Mrs. Quack Quack." Indicating that she talks way too much. "I only want some fun . . . someone to laugh and clown with . . . After you've sat still all day and hardly moved, you've got to have some fun", ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Hiding Place Corrie Ten Boom Analysis Jewish Children during the Holocaust In the book The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom, tells the story about her life during World War Two in the Netherlands. Corrie being the strong christian felt that it was right to lead an anti– Nazi operation, in helping to hide her Jewish friends inside of her house. Homeowners during World War Two were able to help the Jewish people hide from the Nazis, knowing the serious consequences if they were caught in the act. Although, she helped many Jewish people survive, the living conditions were awful for most. Jewish citizens of the Netherlands were hidden anywhere that they could be in order to evade deportation. As the Nazis proceeded , many Jews sought to evade the deportation orders by hiding. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Aryans were any Jewish citizen that looked like a typical person native to the land that they were living and had the ability to speak the native language. Most however were unable to be applied to both of these charactersistics so they had to be hidden. If both of those characterstics applied to you it was crucial in case of an emergency that you had false identification papers ('Hidden"). False identification, most of the time in which were gotten from anti–Nazi resistance groups, allowed for Jewish citizens to trick Nazi soldiers into thinking that they were not. Although, very useful, false identification papers very dangerous for the bearer since German soldiers checked them very closely. For most, it was worth the risk in order for them to go on living their lives as normally as they could and to keep from being deported ("Hidden"). "It is possible that I appear to you a powerful person. I wear a unifrom, I have a certain authority over those under me. But I am in prison, dear lady from Haarlem, a prison stronger than this one." • 7. Corrie Ten Boom The theme of selfless service and unflinching love in the face of persecution dominates the work of Corrie ten Boom in THE HIDING PLACE. Through the lens of her Christian upbringing, ten Boom articulately recounts her life's journey from a small child living in a bustling Dutch city to a vapid, malnourished prisoner of the German Nazis. Through her life's struggle, she hopes to inspire others and teach a new generation about the value of life and the innate capacity that all possess–to fully love one another. THE HIDING PLACE recounts Corrie ten Boom's intriguing life story. Casper ten Boom and Cornelia ten Boom were married and started a family in the late 1800s in Haarlem, Holland. Through the Bulldog's" anecdotes of harassment and difficulty, she was able to personalize the wrath of the German soldiers. She experienced first–hand the effects that the persecution had on Haarlem's Jews. Over the next few weeks, Jews began furtively arriving at the Beje under the cover of night in order to escape their captors. Corrie, Betsie, and their father welcomed these new guests with open arms, but the ten Booms knew that the Jews would not be able to stay for very long. Ration cards were scarce and food would soon run out. Corrie turned to her brother Willem, who worked with the Underground Resistance. Willem arranged for the transportation of the Jews to the countryside, but Corrie knew that his help would only last for so long. For her to be successful at helping the Jews, she needed to make her own connections and arrange her own system of dealings. She arranged for ration cards to be dropped off at the Beje, kept in contact with the Resistance's top leaders, and had alarm systems and a secret hiding place in her room built. The Beje turned into the hub of the Jewish underground movement in Haarlem under the guise of a petty watch repair shop. • 9. Corrie Ten Boom : The Woman Who Forgave "Corrie ten Boom: The Woman Who Forgave" Before May of 1940, Cornelia Arnolda Johanna ten Boom would have said her life was uneventful. But then everything changed. World War II started around September of 1939. The ten Boom family was not Jewish, but they had a strong moral and could not stand the ways the Jews were treated. The German Blitzkrieg ran through the Netherlands in May 1940 and mistreatment of Jews started in the ten Boom's town a couple months later (ten Boom, Sherrill, and Sherrill 27). Corrie ten Boom was an assertive woman who is credited for saving hundreds of lives during the Holocaust through her acts of courage, faith, and forgiveness. Corrie ten Boom's family played a crucial part in her life. Cornelia, often called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first man Corrie ever helped herself needed to escape from Holland, so Corrie found him a safe place and time to escape. Soon, people were coming to the ten Boom house needing a place to stay and the family realized that these people needed a more secure place, especially because the house of the ten Booms was just half a block from police headquarters. This is when they decided to build the secret room (Popson 45). The secret room was a room in the back of the third floor just beyond Corrie and Nollie's room. The room could hold about eight people and it was usually full ("Corrie ten Boom I"). On February 28 of 1944, all the members in the ten Boom household were arrested for their acts of hiding and deporting Jews. Besides the ten Boom family, twenty–nine others were arrested. That day, their house had been raided, but no Jews or evidence was found. Corrie was fifty–three at this time (Popson 46). Once in jail, Corrie was known as the ringleader because she spoke up to protect her father. This act put her into solitary confinement. Soon, a nurse working at the jail secretly gave Corrie scripture to read in her cell . Soon after the arrest, Corrie's family was released except for her father, herself and her sister, Betsie (47). • 11. Sacrifice: Colson, Corrie Ten Boom, And The Bible Sacrifice Sacrifice, it is an action known to all, few understand it's meaning, and little accomplish it. Sacrifice means surrendering all to something. But is a cause worth the sacrifice of one person? Do the lives of the many really outweigh the lives of the few? The humble lives of Charles Colson, Corrie ten Boom, and Jesus Christ clearly illustrate what sacrifice is. Moreover, in their classic books, Born Again, The Hiding Place, and the Bible all of these heros must determine if surrendering their lives is worth the lives of the many. Everyone agrees that these three people sacrificed their lives for something. Some value one man's life so significantly that no cause is worth sacrificing a life. Nevertheless, some believe that a cause ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Amazingly, the Word of God pronounces what an incredible thing Jesus did, "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth" (John 1:14). Christ was willing to sacrifice His life in heaven and come to the darkness of earth and walk with sinful creatures. Humbly, Jesus comforted others and illustrated compassion for the worst sinners. As declared in the Bible, "And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people" (Matthew 4:23). Christ's cause exceeded His comfort zone, and He taught and healed sinners. Like children struggling to overcome the powerful tug of the ocean's current, so humans were imprisoned by the unyielding tug of sin. The Son of Man's cause was to save man from this paralyzing current. Jesus was even nailed to a rough tree and died on our behalf. The Bible states this, "But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). He valued our freedom with Him so much He was willing to die to secure it. Jesus demonstrates that the true meaning of sacrifice is love. Therefore, Christ's cause is the freedom of mankind, and He was prepared to enter a dark world, heal the sick, and even be crucified for His ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Book Review: The Hiding Place By Corrie Ten Boom Many books have been written about people's experiences during World War II. One such book that tells a powerful story is The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom. Corrie was a brave woman who knew her place in God's tapestry. Even though she faced starvation, discrimination, alienation, fear, and death, she survived and came out the other side feeling joyful and still had unwavering faith in God. Corrie's autobiography explains how God used her and how she was able to overcome these trials and forgive her oppressors. One of the first things Corrie personally learned was that God can use anyone. Corrie was a fifty year old spinster who worked in her father's clock shop. She thought that she would spend the rest of her life in the beje. She repaired ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Corrie liked 1 Thessalonians 5:18, "Give thanks in all circumstance; for this is God's will in Christ." because she often found ways to give thanks in positive or negative scenarios. While in Ravensbruck, a concentration camp, she struggled with her faith and lost courage. When this happened, Corrie went back to the Bible for help. If God knew the number of hairs on her head, He surely could not forget about her. After she was released from Ravensbruck, she felt that she needed to share what she had gone through. If public speaking was right for Corrie, God would give her the power to do it. She had to trust that God would enable her. Corrie once said,"Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God," (Boom 3). She did exactly that when took on the challenge of hiding Jews in her own house. The consequence of doing so was going to prison and possibly concentration camp. Even though she did get caught and go to both concentration camp and jail, she never backed down and always found renewed strength and comfort in the Bible. Corrie also felt a calling to minister to others while in Ravensbruck. She and her sister Betsie would hold prayer circles, even there would be serious punishment if they were ... The Hiding Place Corrie Ten Boom Analysis The Hiding Place Book Critique The Hiding Place, by Corrie ten Boom, is an extensive study of how World War II, more specifically the Holocaust, affected those living in Holland. The author's intent is to educate is to educate people of how ordinary people residing in countries affected by the war and its consequences jeopardized their lives in an effort to save those who were endangered. Ten Boom's thesis is that the ultimate hiding place is not tangible, but it can be found in God's word. She successfully demonstrates how the Holocaust altered and defined the lives of those living in Western Europe. Movies tell us heroes are from a different world, wear a suit of armor/cape, or wield superhuman abilities; however, real–life heroes do not fit that mold. In reality, heroes, come in many forms and need little more than courage and boldness to do what is right when no one else will. By all accounts, Corrie Ten Boom, a nearly 50–year old Dutch woman, should not have been a heroine. I also displayed intellectual autonomy to hold my ground on a security issue, which led to an ethical dilemma. As difficult as it was, I made a decision and the five–step ethical decision making process proves it was the right one. Despite the circumstances, Corrie was a visionary. She saw people in need and she drew a line in the sand. There was no suit of armor and no cape, just Corrie, as she seemingly echoed the words of Isaiah, "Here am I. Send me!" (Isaiah 6:8, New International Version [NIV]). Visionary Leader Corrie Ten Boom exemplified the characteristics of a visionary leader through her inspirational motivation in the Dutch underground resistance against Nazi Germany. Corrie witnessed the Jewish oppression at the hands of the Nazis and rejected it (Straub, 1992). One night, a Jewish woman went to Corrie and asked for help and Corrie agreed. Soon, Corrie became an active part of the Dutch underground resistance and worked to save the Jews (Ten Boom, 2006). Here, Corrie used her gift of inspirational motivation to inspire and motivate others to join the resistance or support the effort by providing food ration cards, supplies, or safe passage for the Jews and resistance workers. She even had a hidden room built in her house to hide the Jews residing there (Straub, 1992; Ten Boom, 2006). • 19. The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom started with the 100th anniversary of the founding of the ten Boom Watch shop in Haarlem, Holland. Highly respected for their deep religious faith, the ten Boom family gave help to anyone who might need it. The celebration took place in 1937, under the shadow of World War II as well as the rise of Nazism. The Dutch people, believing that their neutrality would be honored as it had in World War 1, could not have imagined the horrors that would soon befall them. The main setting of The Hiding Place, an old, strangely built Dutch house where Corrie was born, included a secret room that was built to hide Jews and political prisoners who were fleeing Nazi persecution. The large home was a beloved part of Corrie's Childhood. It was often used as the backdrop to remember her childhood. She recalled memories of her family: a father whose faith and education was prized above all; a mother who often helped the poor and sick; an older sister who was her greatest and most trusted friend; an older brother who was an ordained Protestant minister while also working for the Resistance Movement later on; and the people in Haarlem who valued her family and their contributions to the city. Eventually, Corrie, her father, and her sister, Betsie, faced the Nazi invasion and became part of the resistance movement. They aided those who were fleeing the Nazis by providing a place to stay and building a secret room which they could hide in if there were ever a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout this paper, I will be highlighting what I found to be the overarching theme of Corrie Ten Boom's memoir, following immediately after this statement, I will discuss the order of the events that took place in this eye–opening and moving documentation and how these events have affected both my knowledge of the holocaust, and how I view and understand ... They inform this woman about how God has been faithful to them, they talk about how even in the midst of the darkness God is guiding them through, because they trust in Him and have faith even when things seem grim and hopeless. In this, we see the belief perseverance that Corrie and Betsie hold dear. The belief that even though the world is a dark place that there is still hope. • 25. Choosing To My Life By Corrie Ten Boom Any step that removes sorrow from your life is a step in the right direction. Choosing to invite happiness into your life is the journey most worthy to embark these steps on. I've come up with three steps that justify the values of a quote from Corrie ten Boom that says, "Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength." For anyone going through a sorrowful situation, a happier lifestyle is a few thoughts away. The three steps to a happier life in the midst of a sad situation is: accepting a problem for what it is, letting go of negativity, and thinking positivity. The first step to releasing worry from your life is accepting the problem you are facing. Personally, I believe that for every heartbreak in life, there is also something to to be rejoiced. Learning that a loved one has cancer is devastating, but seeing them heal is remarkable. Choose to have a mindset that contributes to a happy lifestyle. Learn to realize how many good opportunities a bad situation gives you. I was able to witness some events in a whole new light. • 27. The Hiding Place Corrie Ten Boom Analysis God's laws are meant to be superior over all of us. There may be severe punishments if breaking one. In The Hiding Place, Corrie ten Boom wants to help the Jews, who were being persecuted by the Nazis. To hide them, she would have to break the Nazi's laws and God's laws. The question is... Is it acceptable to break God's commandments when there is evil and hatred in the world? No or Yes? While it is acceptable to break the Nazi's laws that they enforced, you cannot break God's laws. The Nazis did not have God in their hearts and also didn't want God's people either, so it is okay to break their laws, because they're not for God himself. Although God's laws are meant to be there forever and do not change. We are commanded to follow these by Him, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It says, "For the person who keeps all of the laws except one is as guilty as a person who has broken all of God's laws". This verse means that breaking one law is the same thing as breaking all of them. Whether you murder or lie, it is still a sin. And breaking one sin and keeping the rest is like breaking all. God does not like this, and in fact, he hates (even though He's a loving God) when people do not abide to His laws. Corrie, when trying to hide the Jews in her bedroom, lied to the police about the Jews. She also lied about having only one radio and the men under the table. I am not trying to say that Corrie is a bad person because she sinned a lot, I'm trying to point out that even though it would help lives, it was still breaking God's commands. Lastly, an example from the book, The Hiding Place, is on page 126 in Chapter 7. This is were Nollie, Corrie's sister, tells the truth that their maid, Annaliese, was a Jew. Nollie later tells Corrie that God honors honesty always. She also tells Corrie that Annaliese was perfectly fine because God is on her and their side. This book had a lot to do with religion because people were scared and looked to God for answers. A quote that I believe goes with this is one from Corrie where she says ,"Lord Jesus, You were called to a hearing, too. Show me what to do." (Page 118 of Chapter 11) This reiterates that she was looking to God on what she should do. A theme that branches off of religion was faith. Faith played a very important role throughout the book, from normal practices of faith in the beginning of the book to Corrie using faith to keep strong in the labor camps. One quote that I feel describes this is, "But if God has shown us bad times ahead it's enough for that he knows about them. That's why he sometimes shows us things you know, to tell us that this too is in his hands,"(page 50 of Chapter 5) This quote shows that Corrie has faith in God that he has it all under control. The Ten Boom's, however, always do the right thing and help anyone in need. Before their mother died, their household was always full of poor neighbors needing food or tea or anything else they could provide. This kindness continues into the beginning of the Holocaust. Corrie begins to join an underground system, involved with helping and sheltering Jews. At first, she was just trying to get some to different places where they would be safe, however. Corrie got so involved that the watch shop, called the Beje. became the center. She had monthly deliveries of food ration card, new Jews would show up to her door almost weekly, and the rest of the people involved in the underground had a secret code or phone calls, revolving around watch–talk. Eventually, Corrie could not find a place or a man, so he ended up living with the Ten Booms. They ended building a secret room with an elaborate warning system installed. Corrie's sister, while hiding Jews, was asked by a Nazi if she had any Jews in her house, and she replied with an honest answer of yes. I think that it is not okay to break God's Laws under any circumstance. Firstly, what are God's Laws? To me, I think that lying to spare the life of the innocent is not breaking God's Laws. If a man asked you where you were hiding your (innocent) kids, the majority of people, if not everyone, would not give the man the correct answer, which is okay because that is protecting the life of innocent people from death. Corrie and Betsie spent 10 months in three different prisons, the last of which was Ravensbruck Concentration Camp near Berlin. Betsie died at Ravensbruck, but Corrie lived and got of the Concentration Camp to tell her story. While Corrie was in Ravensbruck, she never gave into despair. When people would fight for their own survival, she would give her life for them. In the harshness of the camps Corrie would always pray for other people and give them hope. One quote from her shows her faith toward God, "There is no pit so deep that God's love is not deeper still." This was quote was amazing because of what she endured in the death camps. The chaos and destruction that the Nazi's are causing are not changing the lives of only Jews, but also the lives of citizens in other countries. Between Night by Elie Wiesel and The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom, comradeship, faith, strength, and people of visions are crucial to the survival of principle characters. Ironically, in both stories there is a foreseen future, that both seemed to be ignored. Before the Great War begins affecting the Wiesel's and ten Boom's lives, both families experience a premonition of a dark future ahead of them. Ironically, neither family chooses to listen to these signs. In the novel Night, there are two events of visions. One is a character named Moshe the Beadle. He is a premonition for the town of ... Everyone in the cart began to panic and look out to window; however, there was nothing but the darkness of the night sky. Madame Schachters episodes kept going on throughout the night until others had to beat her in order for her to be quiet. The train arrived at Auschwitz, and as Madame Schachter began to scream again, "the train stopped, this time we saw flames rising from a tall chimney into a black sky" (28). Whether Madame Schachter was actually seeing the flames or they were just visions in her mind, she was a warning to the others to be afraid of the fire. In the novel, The Hiding Place, Corrie's only brother Willem writes a doctoral thesis of a terrible evil that is taking place in Germany. He wrote this paper at the university he was attending. Willem spoke of a hatred for human life that the world has never seen before, "He said, seeds were being planted of a contempt for human life such as the world had never seen" (ten Boom 29). There is no explanation as to why these warnings were ignored. Survivors today beat themselves up psychologically asking, why? Why did I not listen? Why were we all so oblivious to all of the rumors? Throughout experiences in both of the novels, it is clear that having friends and connections in the camps and prisons is crucial for survival and communication. In the beginning of ... • 59. The Hiding Place Corrie Ten Boom Analysis The virtue of forgiveness is one that Corrie ten Boom sometimes struggles with during her experiences in her autobiography, The Hiding Place. The harrowing events of the Holocaust and Nazi occupation of the Netherlands left little room for tenderness towards other people yet, as Betsie ten Boom, Corrie's older sister showed time and time again, it is always possible to find it within oneself to forgive another, especially with God's assistance. Betsie forgives Jan Vogel, the man who betrayed the ten Boom family to the German army. In fact, Betsie feels sorry for him, she even tells Corrie that she prays for him because he must be suffering dreadfully. This response makes Corrie feel guilty for being unable to so readily forgive Vogel and eventually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The family's strong Christian faith contributes to their treatment of others and their belief that God is watching over them. The family was known for caring for others prior to their involvement in the Resistance movement, they provided food, shelter, and comfort to many in Haarlem (30). Nollie, Corrie's other sister trusts that God will protect her and the young Jewish woman she is housing, Annaliese, from harm when she tells German guards the truth about Annaliese's religious heritage (109). The knowledge that Annalise does escape and that Nollie was released from prison quickly leads others to believe that maybe her trust was rewarded (110). In Scheveningen and Vught, two prisons in which Betsie and Corrie are held, Corrie gives her Gospels to other inmates when they are standing in the shower lines so that they may too hear God's word and feel His presence, even in these places of darkness (161). Betsie always trusts that God has everything planned and everything is just as it should be, even the fleas in the barracks at Ravensbruck. Later on the women come to understand that the fleas are a blessing because their presence keeps the guards out of the barracks and makes their little religious services possible (202).These moments of trust and kindness are closely linked to the family's deep Christian faith and the need to care for all of God's ... • 63. Betlie's Multiple Times Corrie Ten Boom This attitude takes center stage at various points in the novel, especially during the sisters' stays at the prison and concentration camps. Multiple times Corrie hears Betsie speak of how sorry she felt for the German soldiers and how she wishes she could help them see the err of their ways. Betsie's compassion towards her captors, assaulters, and enemies profoundly illustrates her love for the human race and the desire she has that all know Christ. While in the Vught concentration camp, Betsie states, "Corrie, if people can be taught to hate, they can be taught to love! We must find a way, no matter how long it takes...". Betsie sees the potential for goodness in everyone she meets despite their actions. Overall, these three themes contribute to the central message of the novel. No matter how desperate a situation or the severity of tribulation, the love of God is greater still and His love provides hope in times of need. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a whole, the novel contains a few weaknesses. The first weakness arises from the time difference between the events and the writing of the novel. Corrie ten Boom wrote THE HIDING PLACE twenty years after the fact. It is extremely likely that the events depicted in the novel are shades of what actually occurred. Memories fade and time distorts the reality of the past and because of this, I feel that the book would have been more factually accurate had Corrie ten Boom written it much sooner. Another weakness in the book derives itself from ten Boom's heavy reliance on her Christian faith. As I read the book, I felt that some of the circumstances were glossed over and events were chocked up to being merely miracles. However, I do agree with Corrie ten Boom's major premise throughout the novel that religion can play a crucial role during tough ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It wasn't just a story anymore, it became a reality. After reading the novel, I watched some videos of her speaking, and her story became even more real to me. • 71. Corrie Ten Boom Essay Life or Death Have you ever been in a life or death situation? Most people say, "No". However, Corrie ten Boom can say, "Yes". This blessed woman can testify that these situations challenge one's sense of right and wrong, but it is up to each individual to prove that he will still choose the right over the wrong even when he may die because of that decision. Everyone agrees that Mary's situation could result in death. However, some say that Corrie and the Jewish fugitives should accept Mary while other short–cited people say that Corrie and the Jewish fugitives should not accept Mary. Despondently and compulsively, Mary wheezes. At 76, she is old and slow, and nobody wants to place their life at risk for her except Corrie. All of the inhabitants of the Beje agree that there is room for one more. Likewise, all the fugitives understand that it is just as likely for one of them to forget something as it is for Mary to wheeze. The second reason that Corrie and the Jewish fugitives should accept Mary is God will protect them. Killing is wrong and God does not support it, therefore He will reward Corrie, her friends, and her family for their dedication to His will even though they may die because of it. That includes Mary. Everyone at the Beje has strong faith and miracles come to the faithful. Since it is not their time to meet their creator, Corrie's Jewish friends will be protected. The third reason that Corrie and the Jewish fugitives should accept Mary is Corrie will be more equipped to share God's love. Corrie will have more opportunities to witness God's miracles. If the Beje gets raided, which it will, then the situation creates an opportunity for a miracle, and that, in turn, generates stronger faith within all of the people who witness the miracle. • 73. Favorite Characters In The Hiding Place By Corrie Ten Boom While reading The Hiding Place, I was frequently inspired by the power and insight behind Corrie ten Boom's words. However, two of her statements particularly stood out to me. The first was when she had said "Some knowledge is too heavy... you cannot bear it...your father will carry it until you are able." (ten Boom 175) This phrase is so meaningful because it was a lesson she had learned from her own father when she was young, but now she uses it in her own teaching and relates it to her heavenly father as well. The second quote that stood out to me was when she had said "His will is our hiding place. Lord Jesus, keep me in Your will." (ten Boom 234) This statement refers to Corrie's realization of how everything had happened for a reason. This was her protection or "hiding place" through the horrors of the concentration camp and her personal losses. I found these two quotes to be the most perceptive phrases of Corrie's that spoke to me the most. My favorite character in The Hiding Place would undeniably be Corrie's older sister, Betsie ten Boom. Betsie ten Boom was portrayed with an incredible sense of optimism and faith that could shine a light at the darkest of times. Another quality I admired was her merciful heart that managed to feel sorrow for enemies and be quick to forgive. Betsie's positivity, forgiveness and faithfulness all contributed to create a remarkable personality and character in this particular novel. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
