In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
1. In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
2. Length of Trailer
• The normal conventions of a teaser trailer are that they are usually
between 30 and 90 seconds long. Our trailer is 72 seconds long, similar to
the teaser fro trainspotting, which is 69 seconds
3. Editing style
• The editing style for a Thriller teaser trailer is usually fast paced,
occasionally including a montage of shots, our trailer flips between two
scenes, and then ending in a montage of quick shots, this is to create
suspense. Our trailer is conventional in this sense.
4. Use of Sound
• Our trailer is conventional in the way that it
uses voiceover, this is a common element of a
teaser trailer, especially in the crime genre. An
example of this is the Wolf of Wall Street
trailer.
5. Text/Graphic Elements
• A convention used in almost every teaser trailer, is the use of text to
explain what is happening or give extra information. Our trailer uses text
to give a premise to the film and to explain to the viewer what the story
line entails.
6. Film poster
Layout conventions of a film
poster are film title, billing block,
lead cast, director and sometimes
some reviews of the film and their
ratings. Our poster contains all of
these elements.
Our poster is pretty similar to the
Limitless film poster as it contains
a lot of the same elements like the
main character being off centre
etc.
7. Film Magazine
For our magazine, we decided to come up
with our own brand as we felt that our image
did not fir the converntions of the likes of
Empire or Little white lies. Our magazine
cover has some of the traditional
conventions of a magazine, for example,
where the title is on the page and the
amount of text. We have also put news
about other films that we have created in
media, as most magazines do not just focus
on one film. We have kept the same font for
the title of our film as our poster and trailer,
to keep the theme the same for all of our
products.
8. Institutional conventions
• Our film comes across as a British
independent film, which is what we had
aimed for at the start. You can see this as it
has almost no special effects and looks as if
the budget was not very big, like a Hollywood
blockbuster.
9. Genre Conventions
• I think our film has a very clear genre as it
follows the conventions of a crime/drug
thriller. The part that shows the genre the
most is when, in the trailer, the character is
seen holding, then eating, a pill. Also the end
of our trailer is a montage to create suspense
like in a thriller.
