2. Teaser Trailer Conventions:
When first establishing the type of genre our group
wanted to create, we decided to go along the lines of a
teen crime drama. When researching into one particular
film ‘A Girl Like Her’, we discovered that this film had
enigma in it, having the audience question what is
happening and the reason for this happening. We have
included this into our teaser trailer, at parts which would
make the audience question what the true meaning of our
character is. This links with the film research we did, as it
is manipulating the audience and making them think
what makes a person who they are. (https://youtu.be/-

3. The whole concept of a teaser trailer is
to ensure that you do not reveal the
whole story, and by doing this, teaser
trailers are naturally shorter than an
official trailer. This is a typical guideline
convention that teaser trailers follow
by. Usually their length differs from 60
to 90 seconds, possibly longer or
shorter. Each one is different, but ours
is approximately 90 seconds.

4. Characters within a teen crime drama
can be stereotypical as there are specific
labeling to characters and what they are
like. We have gone against the
conventions of the characters, as we are
focusing on one specific rebellious
character. Usually teen dramas focus on
innocent and vulnerable characters, but
our group have followed along the lines
of a character who is both good and bad,
and is mostly seen on their own.

5. Teaser trailer editing can vary, but are
usually fast paced in order to show a lot of
different shots, but enough to make the
audience want to watch it, the style of the
teaser trailer clearly showing what genre
the film is going to be, and briefly what it is
about. Within a crime drama, there are
usually montage elements that are fast
paced and fragmented, which is what we
have used in our trailer. We have
incorporated different lengths of shots,
having a fast paced montage section, as well
as a slow paced section at the beginning.

6. Poster Conventions:
Lighting within a film poster can determine
what genre the film is. If there is low key
lighting, then the genre of a film would most
likely have a serious manner to it, compared
to if a poster had high key lighting, which
would get the impression that the film genre
is more upbeat and romance/teenage related.
When doing research on different film
posters that related to our teaser trailer
genre, I realised that the lighting and
atmosphere is low key, dark and sinister. This
is what we have done for our poster, as it is
also dark and has low key lighting, showing
that our film is serious and not a typical teen
drama.

7. The main title and other text is in bold and is
usually easy to read to get the point across to
the audience. There is a recurring colour
scheme that follows this to make sure that the
colour of the font and the font type would fit
alongside the main image and the lighting it
portrays. The slogan can have different
meanings, some relating to the genre that our
group have chosen can be very deep and
powerful. We have managed to include a
slogan, which we believe is also a question to
the audience, making them interested in what
the film has to offer. Our film title and font is
also big and bold. We followed a colour
scheme of black and white, which links with
the personality of the character. The white
bold title being noticeable and memorable for
a audience to read.

8. Finally, the main image is part of a poster
convention, as it represents who the main
characters are and what they’re
involvement is within the film. There are
usually more than one character
presented in a poster, however for ours
we have gone against this because we
thought that ours would have a more
intriguing meaning if we only included the
main character which the film is centered
round. However we have also followed the
conventions of a poster by having the
main image in the middle, covering the
whole length and width of the poster, in
order to show what the film is about and
who is involved in it.

9. Magazine Conventions:
There are different types of magazines
that have a different style to the way
their magazine cover looks and what
films they advertise. Total Film and
Empire mostly focus on futuristic and
sci-fi film releases, while Filmmaker
focus on independent films, and Sight &
Sound advertising a variety of different
and general releases. We decided to
follow Sight & Sound, and to make our
magazine cover look like theirs. By doing
this, we have upheld the same layout,
information and content that is involved
within the magazine cover.

10. The main image for Sight & Sound either has a
picture of characters of a film, a famous and
well known producer or an actor or actress.
These are the three different features they
follow by. We decided to have a black and white
theme that Sight & Sound have previously done,
showing that we are keeping to the
conventions, as well as having the main image
as the actor, however what we should have
done was add in the name ‘David Millen’ to
show that it is the actor we are showing and not
the character of the film by having the title
name down. This is something I didn’t realise
till very last minute.

11. Finally what makes up a magazine cover
is to also have the cover lines that has
additional information about what else is
inside the magazine. What I like about
the Sight & Sound magazine, is that the
cover lines are less noticeable, making
the main priority being the film within
the cover. We have included some cover
lines which follow the layout of the
magazine cover, such as mentioning
reviews and interviews.
