1. Power Converters - Cooling
Transformers
Power converters are present in the electricity
distribution network in all kinds of processes and
manufacturing industries. A power converter is
an electrical or electromechanical device for
converting electrical energy and it is used to
increase or decrease the voltage (transformers),
convert alternating current into direct current (rectifier) or to control and
convert the frequency of alternating current (frequency converter).
Transformation, rectification and conversion of electrical energy generate
heat, and therefore the machines involved must be cooled through the use of
gaskets for plate heat exchangers and air heat exchangers.
Transformers
A transformer is a static device which transfers energy by inductive coupling
between its circuits. A variable current creates a varying magnetic flux in the
ferromagnetic core transformer. Consequently, it also creates a changing
magnetic flux through a secondary winding. This variation of the magnetic flux
induces a change in electromotive force of the secondary winding and in a
temperature increase which is controlled by the use of heat exchangers.
