Repainting Walls
Ways to Repaint Walls & Ceilings
Professional recommendations on ways to repaint interior walls and ceilings, consisting of following
the proper series and utilizing the appropriate devices and strategies.
With better prep work and a couple of techniques of the trade, painting interior ceilings and walls is
an easy procedure that can yield expert outcomes.
As vital as having clean, smooth surface areas is following a certain series. Right here are the basic
policies to follow:
Do so previously repainting the ceiling and walls if you are staining or clear–finishing trim. When
you are sure that they are totally dry, thoroughly mask all of these surface areas just. For details on

Dip the brush directly and down 2 or 3 times till the bristles are filled about a 3rd of their length.
Then, making sure your brush does not leak, put it versus the side of the container. Do not run the
brush versus the rim of the container as this will certainly eliminate excessive paint and might
likewise trigger the bristles to stick.
After cutting–in the corners, work in areas about 3 feet square. Hold the brush so that your thumb
rests on one side of the ferrule (the metal strip that links the bristles to the manage) and your 4
fingers are spread out equally on the other side. Unlike holding the brush by the deal with, this
permits you to manage the angle of the brush without needing to alter the position of your hand.
Use the paint efficiently over the very first area, holding the brush at a 45–degree angle. Let up on
the pressure and then reverse instructions when you get to the end of a stroke. Repaint back into the
damp edge to avoid lap marks. Repaint the area into the previous one to mix them when you have

Micro 310L: Medical Microbiology Lab
Problem
The objective of a lab notebook in Micro 310L: Medical Microbiology Lab is to "record your
laboratory activities in such a manner that a second, equally technically proficient person could do
the same thing without the aid of outside materials and produce the same results..." (Lemper, n.d.).
In order to write a notebook to accomplish this goal, multiple resources are available to students to
assist them in writing their notebook specifically a notebook packet the instructor created to help
Micro 310L students write a lab notebook. Even though there are resources available, there is still
confusion amongst students about the content of a lab notebook. The interactive slide deck will

Week 1 – Contact Claudia Lemper (instructor of Micro 310L) to talk about the common mistakes
made by the majority of students, the high points of good lab notebooks, and obtain examples of
good and lab notebooks. I will also ask previous Micro 310L students (Monica Morrison and
Kristina Larsen) for their input on what they wish would have been explained to them before writing
a lab notebook and speak with current Micro 310L students (Mikolina Lowe and Noelle Gray) about
any confusion they still have when writing notebooks.
Week 2 – Create an outline of content for each section and within each slide of the slide deck.
Week 3 – Produce the slide deck using the outline from week 2 and PowerPoint software. The
examples will also be scanned and incorporated into the slide deck. I would also like to include
quotes from Claudia Lemper and the students interviewed to provide advice for lab notebook
writing. I will also reserve a workspace in the library to record the voice

Personal Narrative Story : A Short Story
I couldn't believe Bub woke me up. I couldn't believe Bub woke me up. Oopsie daisy sorry, I just
woke up. He asked me help set up the party, for his OWN birthday. I couldn't believe he had to set
up his own birthday on the day it was. He was on his phone texting our cousin, george. "Howwww
Niceeee!" He said, when he got a text! "You know what's nice...MY DREAM you interrupted!" He
told me he was going to tug me out of bed. He was not kidding, he actually dragged me through the
house, all the way outside. He grabbed a bunch–o–balloon party pack, and started blowing them up.
I popped "em" with my tacs."Good practice for my right arm." I said sarcastically. I got up because I
was bored.I started to wonder off. Bub grabbed me before I could do anything though. I asked him if
we could play "bolleyball." He said it was pronounced volleyball, but I beg to to differ. I grasped a
stick and said"Jolly ol duel for 2 considerable chaps? What do ya say, Bubble boy?" I teased and
said. I threw him one as I got one myself. We clashed sticks as I pretended to be hurt to make him
boastful. I said"ooooh the pain...THE AGONY... uaua..Bleh." pretty good death scene. I was in two
years of drama class but got kicked out because I accidently set the stage on fire with a lighter. I saw
it and ran to give it to the head of the class but tripped and it had ignited, setting the stage on fire.
Luckily there was a fire extinguisher next to the entrance. George our cousin arrived, but for some

Internet Telephones : A Product Apparatus That Siphons Voice
8.7. Eavesdropping on calls using VOMIT or SipTap Voice over Misconfigured Internet Telephones

8.8. Spam over IP telephony (SPIT) Spam over IP telephony (SPIT), includes prerecorded,
spontaneous messages sent to your VoIP handset. SPIT owes its presence to the standard
correspondences convention called Session Initiated Protocol (SIP). Taste recognizes the vicinity of
a VoIP handset. Dialer projects can convey a spontaneous modified message, and have a superior
possibility of a beneficiary grabbing the call (Phithakkitnukoon, 2008). SPIT conveys with it
different dangers, for example, DoS assaults, and the unapproved utilization of assets (data transfer
capacity), making SPIT substantially more than an annoyance. SPIT 's belongings are decreased by
a strong patch administration arrangement, VoIP empowered firewalls are likely equipped for
recognizing SPIT, and make a verification instrument to distinguish genuine approved guests. To put
it plainly, the rationality of battling SPIT is fundamentally the same to current day routines used to
battle SPAM; it is difficult to stop it, you can dare to dream to control it. 8.9. More ports open =
more ports to secure While the base hardware may stay unaltered, VoIP muddles system activity

Symbolism In Cathedral
In the short story, Cathedral by Raymond Carver, the word "blind" acquires different meanings. The
unnamed narrator is metaphorically blind; he can look at the surface of everything but not see what
is inside. Although the narrator can listen to conversations, he cannot understand the deeper
emotional context the conversation might hold, compared to Robert, who is visually impaired but
can truly listen and understand. It is not until the end of the story that the narrator metaphorically
opens his eyes, with assistance from Robert. The narrator has perfectly acceptable vision, he can see
his wife, and he can see and describe Robert: "this blind man, feature this, he was wearing a full
beard! A beard on a blind man! Too much, I say" (181). He ... Show more content on

Robert and the narrator are watching a television documentary on cathedrals, hence the title, and
Robert asks "...maybe you could describe one to me?" (188), because he understands what the
purpose of cathedrals is, but he has no idea what they look like. The narrator attempts to describe a
cathedral, but he does not know how to "...even begin to describe it." (188). The cathedral means
nothing to him, and he admits to Robert that when it comes to religion: "'I guess I don't believe in it.
In anything. Sometimes it's hard.'" (189). When Robert suggests that they draw a cathedral together,
hand over hand, the narrator becomes nervous and cautious, he is unsure what do. After a little bit,
the narrator became more comfortable and "...couldn't stop" drawing (190). The narrator then closes
his eyes to finish off the drawing, and at that moment with Robert, he metaphorically opens his eyes.
He does not exactly know what happened, but he knows something positively changed, he felt like
"it [was] really something." (190). He has an out of body experience, "...I didn't feel like I was
inside anything" (190), an epiphany. Carver does not entirely explain the ending or what happens
next, but one can be optimistic and assume that Robert changed the narrator for the better, by
making him close his eyes to

Acousmatic Sounds In Cinema
Acousmatic sounds in cinema are those sounds that are present without a visible source. The sounds
are aural elements used in the film and embody a spatial quality within themselves. Acousmatic and
non–acousmatic sounds are essential in cinema because they provide the spectator with a better
understanding of the film through both visuals and sound. Michel Chion explores the idea of the
acousmatic sound in his essay The Voice in Cinema where he talks about Acousmatic sounds in
conjunction with religion where the priests/ religious leaders would often sit behind a curtain and
deliver speeches. Chion draws ideas from Psychoanalysis and connects it with acousmatic sounds.
In the context of psychoanalysis, the therapist's voice is a substitute of an acousmatic sound when
the patient is in a state of hypnosis. The idea of an acousmatic sound can be understood with the
example of a radio. The voice of a radio jockey is acousmatized since it doesn't have a visible source
but the presence of the radio jockey helps us to imagine a kind of presence through the medium of
sound. Chion points out that if we study a film by only listening to the sound and removing the
visuals, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the acousmetre attains the status of a powerful entity. In the end, the voice is deacousmatized and it

his voice. This is quite similar to Mabuse, where Lang brings the idea of an acousmetre that is a

acousmetre is both psychological and mechanical. It comes into being , through Karthik's actions

This meant that after having tried certain drug prescribed by a doctor, the respondent then simply

This is especially true in the busy life of urban areas where people find it difficult to take a break

areas where brand consciousness and awareness was not found to be very high, consumers do treat
themselves based on the recommendations/ suggestions by retailers/Pharmacists/employers to save
time and money (doctor's fee).
An interesting trend that came out from the survey was the fact that even teenage population is
increasingly going towards the self–medication route for minor ailments like fever, headache
although the incidence of such events were very low in this group. This can primarily be attributed
to their experience with family members and friends. This could be associated with the growing

The Holiday Effect : Evidence From Cross Listed Stocks
The Holiday Effect: Evidence From Cross–Listed Stocks

1. Introduction
One of confound empirical findings reported in recent finance literature is the presence of
abnormally high stock returns on the day before holidays. In this paper, we are trying to investigate
the holiday effects in a novel context. Specifically, we attempt to test the presence of holiday effect
for a sub–group of stocks namely, the cross–listed stocks. We are interested in the holiday effects for
the US stocks that are listed in a forging stock exchange. Both academic and practitioners in the
field of finance have investigated the holiday effects. In one ... Show more content on

Section III. Concluding remarks follow in Section IV.
2. Hypothesis development
 H1: the holiday effects will be more pronounced for stocks listed in US exchanges only compare
to cross–listed stocks.
.
3–Literature Review
The topic of holiday effects has been studied extensively using both US markets data and
international markets data
3.1 Holiday Effect in US Markets Ariel (1990) documents that the average preholiday return for the
period from 1963–1982, using both the CRSP value–weighted and equally weighted index, is nine
to 14 times higher than the mean return on the remaining days. Using a nighty years' worth of data
(1897–1986), Lakonishok and Smidt (1988) conclude that the preholiday rate of return is 23 times
larger than the regular daily rate of return. Liano el al. (1992) provides an evidence of the presence
of the holiday effects in OTC market. Finally, all previous studies document that pre–holiday returns
are not a manifestation of other calendar anomalies.
3.2 Holiday Effect in International Markets The pre–holiday effects are also documented in the
international stock exchanges. Mills and Coutts (1995), Arsad and Coutts (1997) and Meneu and
Pardo (2001) who observe a pre–holiday effect in the FT–SE Mid 250 index, FT 30 index,

Analysis Of The Film ' C.r. Y ' Directed By Jean Marc Vallee
The film C.R.A.Z.Y, directed by Jean–Marc Vallée is about a man named Zac, recounting his
adventure of searching for his identity. Laurianne and Gervais give birth to 5 distinct guys, but Zac
is particularly special. He supposedly has a 'gift ' where he can cure burns, and heal people, but little
do they know; his special gift is that he is gay. The film C.R.A.Z.Y uses diegetic elements, selecting
specific events, and a four–part structure to display narrative.
In the exposition, we see that this family is very religious because they are shown going to midnight
mass. The second aspect we learn that will be very significant is that he was premature and was
dropped, so it would explain why his family thinks he has a gift and why he has a scar on his head.
We also learn that his desires are ignored based on stereotypes and gender norms. In the second
section of the film, we get a sense that his character has changed. He's much more rebellious shown
by the scene where he puts his music even louder, after his dad lowered it, and when his father puts
his cigarette out, he blew smoke right back into his face. He also starts smoking pot and expresses
that he no longer believes in his religion. Although he begins to reject the Catholic Church, he
secretly wants help from God. In one particular scene, he is lying in bed and he puts his hands
together and whispers, "Please... Anything but that" This part is particularly important to the
narrative because it shows how desperate he is to

Scene Analysis : Over The Rainbow
Unaccompanied, the song "Over the Rainbow" tells the story of a girl dreaming of a world that is
not her own. But with visual aids and closer attention to the nuances in instrumentation, the song
reveals an uncomfortable duality – that between pursuing one's dreams and staying close to home.
The shot composition of the scene in which Dorothy sings "Over the Rainbow" tells a story itself.
The scene is composed of one brief shot and two long takes, the first of which is centered on
Dorothy throughout. Suddenly, abruptly, the scene cuts mid–sentence to a smiling Toto who is
wagging his tail. Initially, the cut seems to serve no purpose – it does not further the narrative, nor
does it come into play later. But a keen eye, or ear rather, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This foreshadows that Dorothy will no longer crave the radical freedom that she is singing about
once she has experienced a different world. Interestingly, the scene ends with Dorothy singing "Why
then, oh why can't I?" which is in the minor key, representing Kansas. This subtlety foreshadows
Dorothy's decision to return home after successfully escaping to Oz.
Before Dorothy even begins to sing, the song is introduced by a fluty melody that is reminiscent of
birds chirping. Birdsong is an explicit indicator of the natural world, and is often associated with
tranquility. This serene melody, coupled with the look of wonder on Dorothy's face, helps
communicate that Dorothy is journeying to a new world – one of her own creation, that is peaceful
and distinct from her life in Kansas. As soon as Dorothy belts out her first note, the melody
immediately drops to middle C, and the remaining sections of the orchestra join in, creating a much
richer, fuller sound than the ethereal "chirping" that preceded it, as if the melody is returning from
the fantastical world that Dorothy has dreamed up. Yet, a mere 2 beats later, Dorothy returns to her
imaginative dream that is associated with a higher pitch, by jumping an entire octave. In this jump,
Dorothy reaches C that is between middle C and high C, and the melody is left unfulfilled – it is as
if she is trying to reach high C, but is not quite there. Dorothy is caught

The Benefits Of The Black Market

Under Ground Kings:
The Benefits of the Black Market
Why is there over 120 thousand people waiting on an organ transplant? Why are there 44 million
uninsured people in the United States alone? Why is it that 1 in 10 americans cannot afford their
medical medications? All simply answered by the fact that it's all too expensive. The poverty level,
according to USDA 2015, in the United States for a family of four is $24 thousand. With so many
conditions, cancers, and diseases, everyone should have equal health opportunity, but this is not the
case. In turn, the population turns to alternative sources of help: such as the Black Market. The black
market is basically any service or good in exchange for money that isn't legal. According to Amy
Fontinelle, author of "The Mechanics of the Black Market", illegal operations could be as simple as
"[...] bartering and not reporting the taxable value of the transaction, or hiring a regular housekeeper
or babysitter, but failing to pay employment taxes (Fontinelle)." Black markets contort and falsify
government records. Many people enter the world of black markets because they do not want to or
are not able to acquire licenses for certain occupations due to governmental restrictions. Such as in
New York, to become a licensed taxi driver, one must purchase a medallion which cost $600
thousand or more; they turn to black market alternatives until they are caught. In extenuating

Kids Unprotected Sex In Larry Clark's Kids
In Larry Clark's Kids (1995), New York teen Telly makes it his mission to deflower virgin girls
through unprotected sex. He believes that by only having sex with virgins, he will avoid contracting
STD's. Jennie, one of Telly's victims, tests positive for HIV despite only having sex once.
Throughout the course of the film, she searches for Telly to stop him from spreading the virus. Telly,
who keeps company with his best friend Casper, participates in delinquent behavior, and by the time
Jennie finds him, has already captured his next victim. Kids uses montage, voice overs, and the
alienation effect to construct an argument about the character's environment and how it has affected
their idea of normality. Through these modernist techniques, ... Show more content on

The audience is aware that the events shown take place within a day, as well as the location of the
characters. This thorough editing style is suddenly interrupted by an unconventional montage. The
montage is unconventional in the sense that instead of using cuts, it uses movement to proceed to the
next scene; for instance, a car would pass through the original scene that the spectator was viewing
and then the new scene would be in its place. The montage also appears to be peculiar because of its
random nature. The scene before the montage shows Casper engaging in sexual intercourse with
Jennie, who is unconscious on a couch while surrounded by other unconscious kids. Despite
whispering no, her intoxicated struggle against him fails and the scene fades to black. Their hushed
voices are replaced by somber music, which ushers in the montage of the film. The audience is then
presented with random takes of a man rocking back and forth on a street corner, a man banging his
head against a gate, and a man with his hands lifted toward the sky in a park; while people walk by
as if their behavior is ordinary. The montage allows these random elements to be joined together to
provoke insight into the character's environment and how it has caused them to believe that their
behavior is normal; because they are surrounded by sex, drugs, and

Cathedral Raymond Carver Analysis
The Cathedral
"It's tragic to have sight but no vison", Helen Keller. This quote applies to the story "Cathedral" by
Raymond Carver. The story about a sighted man who lacks vison, but encounters a blind man who
has spiritual vison. In consequence of the encounter the narrator wakes up and realized he has been
blind his whole life. In the story the narrator seems very narcissistic and narrow minded. The
narrators' ideas and characterizations of the blind were influenced by the television. Not only, was
the narrator bothered by the fact that the character was blind, but it also, bothered him to think that
he might be slow in moving and felt the blind had no sense of humor, which later through the story
he mentioned the characterization of the blind came from a movie he had seen days before. In
addition, the narrator seems to be insensitive towards the blind and his situation. For instance, this
can be shown in the way he joked to his wife about taking the blind friend out bowling. The narrator
is well aware that in order to bowl you must have the ability to see the bowling pins. As can be seen,
the narrator is very judgmental, insensitive, and does not seem like the type of person who would be
caught in an arts museum.
From a different angle, the narrator is stuck solely in the world of appearance which is repressed by
the television in the story. Also, he seems emphatic and has a very superficial concept of
relationships. For example, the narrator states that the blind man's relationship with his now
deceased wife, was "beyond his understanding", he sums up the relationship by stating "They'd
married, lived and worked together, slept together, had sex, sure, and then the blind man had to bury
her. All this without his having ever seen what the goddamned women looked like." In short, this
comes to show that the narrator care too much about how a person looks or how other people look,
about what you say and do and what other people say and do. All things considered, the narrator
feels very little compassion over the blind man, he feels as though he can see right through him,
based on what he has seen on the television and the things he had heard, without attempting to give
him the benefit of the doubt. On

Sunset Boulevard And Singing In The Rain
Sunset Boulevard (1950) and Singing in the Rain (1952) both use the transitions from silent to

plot.
Sunset Boulevard follows an unsuccessful screenwriter, Joe Gillis (William Holden), whom a past

Though Charlie is an unreliable narrator in both film and novel form, he offers a sense of complete
realism. From not quite dysfunctional families to first parties, Perks of Being a Wallflower
immortalizes realistic moments in time like listening to a song for the first time in a car with friends.
In one of the most memorable scenes from both the novel and the film, Charlie is in the car with
Patrick and Sam and they're driving through the tunnel after a dance. Charlie is there, completely in
the moment with them and he says "...in that moment I swear, we were infinite," (p 80). True reality
is seemingly just out of grasp for Charlie until he meets Patrick and Sam. They tether him to reality
and, alongside the rest of the "island of misfit toys" (movie quote), enable him to be and feel present

It's about the importance of finding people who understand you and enable you to live in moments

The Speech On Young Mistakes
Young Mistakes As adolescents we search for ways to have fun parties, drugs, and sex. In the
process we make choices without thinking them through, which we will sooner or later regret. While
the mistakes I've made weren't as bad as other's. There is one that I will regret the most. Smoking
marijuana and my mom finding out about it. I regret it the most seeing that it pained her most,
seeing her beloved son intoxicated. Woke up, got out of bed enthusiastically knowing it was Friday,
and wanting my weekend to start as soon as possible. In school I met up with my friends "Hey, Luis
wanna go to a party tonight?" ... "I'm not sure my mom would let me, but I'll try" I said. At the end
of the day I headed home, hoping my mom would let me go to the party. I thought of bribing her in
order to persuade her in letting me go. Maybe sneaking out at night if she didn't let. But knowing
how much she trusted me I knew she would approve. "Hey ma can I go to a party with my friends
tonight?" Without giving it much thought she approved. "Just don't do drugs while you're there" she
added. I got ready for the party; I called up my friends and asked them where to meet up. When it
was time to head out, she stopped me and restated what she mentioned earlier. "Mom I promise I
won't do drugs." Her face expression showed doubt. "I trust you'll keep your word to me as my son."
I smiled and said, "Yes ma, I promise." We arrived at the party, but before we even went in the smell

Watching A Disappearing Number in Theater Essay examples
Choose one production that you have seen and which you particularly enjoyed and discuss the

A Disappearing Number
I went to see a Disappearing Number, in the Theater. The production was performed by Complicite
and was directed by Simon McBurney. I really enjoyed this performance. I thought that the mixture
of maths and romance as well as the structure of the performance by incorporating the past and the
present together, was extremely successful.
The most successful aspect of the performance for me were the scene changes. I found that the

Another really effective aspect to the performance was the use of technology, including sound

technology would be the scene where Al is trapped in the lecture theatre. Here, he begins to look

show us, as the audience, what he is looking at. Al starts to read a page from a book which has been
marked down and as he starts to read a voice over starts reading the same words, quietly at first and
as that gradually builds up in volume, Al?s voice decreases in volume till its just the voice over
reading out the words from the book. This is one of the first links to the past, a key theme in the
performance, as the voice over is the voice of G H Hardy, the great mathematician reading from his
own book.
We were introduced to the performance by the character Ruth giving a maths lecture, simple at first
but then getting extremely difficult to follow, going off on a tangent, using mathematical
terminology I had never even heard of. This maths theme carried on throughout the whole
performance, making it, from my point of view, the strongest link from the present to the past, as
Ruth was wanting to follow in the footsteps of Ramanujan and Hardy.

Lightbo Lightbox Meaning
The title is a metaphor for apartments in the modern society, which have colossal windows that
change the way privacy is interpreted. The narrator, unnamed, describes lightboxes metaphorically "
[...] high–rise boxes [...]" , "[...] boxes of light [...]" and "[...] individual lightboxes [...]" . In that
sense, the title can be associated with the modern way of living, living in modern apartments with
colossal windows, overusing computers and smartphone that all provide light, just like a lightbox.
The indication is that everyone can find a lot of information about other people, because people in
the modern society have a tendency to share every little detail about their life to the rest of the
world, either by living in modern apartments with large windows that project their lives to the rest of
the world, or by sharing every information over social media to the rest of the world. ... Show more

The connection between an apartment and a box is also symbolic, that symbolises people in the

they are transparent and easily accessible. The narrator can snoop on Elsie because she has a very
public life with her online profile and blog, as well as colossal windows. For the narrator, being able

Over The Rainbow Analysis
"Over the Rainbow," or popularly known as "Somewhere over the Rainbow" is a poignant ballad
expressing a deep longing and hope of an escape from the worldly troubles. The song was originally
written for the 1939 movie, The Wizard of Oz, with its music created by Harold Arlen and lyrics by
Yip Harburg. It won the Best Original Song in the Academy Awards on the same year. "Over the
Rainbow" is one of the greatest American standards of the 20th century, a cultural gem significant
for preservation. The song also ranked first in the Songs of the Century List, the result of a survey of
America's musical and cultural heritage. Since then, many covers had been recorded by artists who
had their own unique interpretation of the musical piece. Judy Garland's rendition of the song
reminds me of my dad's collection of 1940s records. She sings in a soft, melodic voice reflective of
the musical style in that era. The tempo is slow, the vocals are more emphasized than the orchestra's
instrumentation. Garland's original version of the song is best remembered because of her role as
Dorothy Gale in "The Wizard of Oz." In the movie, she sang about "the place where she won't get
into trouble." The song captured the hearts of the audience since it was a symbolic piece where
many individuals can relate to. The dreams of the ideal and the hope of a brighter future was evident
in the song. Somehow, "Over the Rainbow" mirrored the life of the artist making it her own as
Garland struggled with her

Judy Garland's Over The Rainbow
When the tune of "Over the Rainbow", also known as "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", is heard,

The Effect Of Daylight And Control On Artificial Light And...
ABSTRACT: Availability of daylight in a building not only improves the well–being of an
individual but also plays an important role in reducing our dependence on artificial light and the
operational cost of a building. Daylight if not controlled could cause the major problem of solar heat
gain in a building and thus causing an increase in the air–conditioning cost of the building especially
in warm climates. Offices being one of the building categories that need to be well lit regardless of
their size and location, it is important to optimize the daylight and control the heat gain in an office
building. This paper discusses the different daylight strategies to achieve this.
1. INTRODUCTION "A room is not a room without natural light." –Louis I Khan
Buildings in the residential, commercial and public sectors are responsible for 20–40% of the total
energy consumption in the world [Pérez–Lombard, L. Ortiz, J. and Pout, C., (2008)]. Around 70%
of this consumption is spent on artificial light and air–conditioning systems [Energy Information

consumption due to HVAC is 39% and lighting is 25%. In countries having warm climates like India

Movie Review : The War On Drugs
After an increasing interest for television series based on true stories, Netflix came out with their
own version of such a TV show. Narcos, a television show based around the life of drug kingpins of
the 1980s, suddenly hit the international audience after its style of shooting and storyline struck
interest among many. The show is set in Columbia and Netflix describes it as "The true story of
Colombia's infamously violent and powerful drug cartels fuels this gritty new gangster drama
series," (Netflix, 2015). So far two seasons have been released on Netflix which mainly emphasizes
the sudden rise and gradual downfall of Pablo Escobar's life and the Medellin Cartel, however the
coming seasons are set to portray the other drug cartels that carried on after Pablo Escobar was
killed.
The director José Padilha created the show in such a way that it truly brings out the American
perspective on the war on drugs in Columbia; one that has left a significant mark in Columbian
history. Padilha closely recreated the law enforcement's –Drug Enforcement Agency and the
Columbian police's – involvement in the war against Pablo Escobar and the Medellin Cartel,
through DEA agent Steve Murphy's (Boyd Holbrook) voice over narration in episodes. Moreover
the TV show is bilingual (with subtitles) made in a documentary styled footage (Pantera, 2015)

Drug Issues Among Teens
According to Dr. Manny Alvarez in his article, teenage drug use in America is becoming an
epidemic and needs to be addressed as soon as possible. In his article titled, "Teen drug abuse
becoming an epidemic, must be addressed," he mention about two of the most abused drugs among
the teenagers of this country. He said that the two most common drugs being used by teenagers are
Marijuana also known by its street name "Weed" and Pain Killers. The article offered some decent
explanation as to why the drug use is problematic. It was stated in the article that, "A report released
Wednesday by The Partnership at Drugfree.org showed that "heavy" marijuana use among teenagers
is up 80 percent, with one in 10 teens reporting that they use the drug at least 20 times a month." As
it's stated in the numbers, an increase of 80% in anything is a pretty huge dramatic turn. An 80%
increase in the use of marijuana; not just the use of it in a recreational way, but also a "heavy" use of
it. It also stated above that one in ten teens reported to be using this drug at least 20 times in a
month.
Also in the article was another drug that causes concern to our teenager's futures, Painkiller. In the
article, Painkiller was mostly emphasized on because it was more harmful in my opinion than
marijuana. The article informed the reader that in 2010, over 5.1 million people in the United States
took painkillers without any medical reasons or use. The article by Dr. Alvarez says that,

Don't Let Smoking Control Your Life In today's growing society, smoking is still a major problem
among many humans. A lot of teens and young adults are revealed to the effects of smoking through
the exposure of secondhand smoke. The presence of secondhand smoke can be encountered through
family members, friends, and even people in the surrounding area. Since smoking is so accessible,
anyone is able to obtain a cigarette. The result of smoking, however, presents undesirable outcomes.
As an example, cancer, lung disease, a change in lifestyle and personality, or impacted decisions.
Similarly, the advertisement campaign "Stay In Control" by The Real Cost introduces us to Amanda
Green – a teenage girl who finally has the independence to define who she is. However, before she
can, Amanda gives up part of her freedom to smoking. The losses of freedom to smoking includes
everything from her life, her money, her boundaries, etc. Through the use of vivid imagery,
voiceover, and sad emotions, the ad "Stay In Control" effectively conveys a message about the
harmful effects of smoking to its intended audience: teens and young adults. During the youth ages
12–17, the use of tobacco is consistently established and started. Adolescents who are open to
cigarettes attempt to try it and many who try a cigarette move to addictive, regular use. Likewise,
the powerful imagery presented in this ad gives the audience a sense of relation

Demerit points are added to your driver's licence, if you are convicted of breaking certain driving
laws. The rules are different depending on if you are a new driver or have a full licence. This
information will explain how the demerit points system works.
How demerit points work
You don't "lose" demerit points on your driving record. You start with zero points and gain points for
being convicted of breaking certain traffic laws.
Demerit points stay on your record for two years from the offence date. If you collect enough points,
you can lose your driver's licence.
Penalties for demerit points
The consequences for gaining demerit points depend on how many you have added to your driving
record.

McConnell, C., Brue, S., & Flynn, S. (2012) explains that ""A shift to the right, as from S 1 to

Causes Of Affluenza In America
Affluenza is a culture in which the urge to consume dominates the psychology of citizens.
Advertising and capitalism are the main causes of affluenza in America. According to the textbook,
"affluenza is a painful, contagious, socially transmitted condition of overload, debt, anxiety and
waste resulting from the dogged, pursuit of more". Forces such as advertising, cultural norms, the
political economy, social pressures, and psychological associations shape the consumption patterns
in consumers. According to Speth, "America is a consumer society in which consumerism and
materialism are central aspects of the dominant culture, where goods and services are acquired not
only to satisfy common needs but also to secure identity and meaning". Consumers remain
unfulfilled and are driven to seek more possessions, due to meaning and self–realization not being
met, nor basic psychological needs. One of the reasons that Americans suffer from affluenza more
than consumers in other countries is because of the advertising in America. Businesses, marketers,
and advertisers have discovered that colonizing the imagination of the child is the most effective
way of securing a life–long conspicuous consumer. Between 1980 and 1997, the amount spent on
children's advertising in America zoomed from $100 million to $1.5 billion a year. American
children watch up to 200 television commercials per day. The average 12–year–old in America

While Wordsworth's remark regards a rose, the statement also accurately describes Katherine

Mansfield created the story with the intention of allowing it to be open for various interpretations;
though she includes specific detail concerning the characters Mansfield does not elucidate them in a

it to be discussed and interpreted in many varying ways.
The Sheridans are an affluent family of New Zealand; they are prominent and social, often hosting
parties and luncheons for other families of the same social rank. They live in a world protected from
the realities of life such as poverty, death, and unhappiness, and this bubble contains all the joy,
perfection, and grandeur that is stereotypically accompanied with having an abundance of wealth.
As a whole, the Sheridan family is one–dimensional; they cannot see beyond their own way of life,
and cannot comprehend the hardships faced by others. The family consists primarily of cold and self
absorbed individuals, but these characteristics are only revealed when their way of life is challenged
or infringed upon; often they appear to be lovely, happy, and fortuitous citizens who are enjoying the
benefits of their propitious life.

Suzy's Saalad Talks: An Analysis Of Themes
SALAD DAYS presents with an enjoyable, high concept premise about a woman in her 40's
pretending to be a younger woman and lying to her boyfriend. It's a great setup for comedy, conflict,
and character development. One can envision the antics and capers the protagonist will endure to
keep her age a secret. Plenty of humor can be generated with this concept.
The script has the opportunity to examine themes about ageless love, the age gap between men and
women, and society's emphasis on being youthful. Women will certainly relate to the premise.
While the concept feels solid, there are areas that are worth discussing.
The first act sets up the ordinary world of the protagonist, Suzy. She works for a candy company,
she's single, and she loves animals. She simply ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In addition, some of the conversations just aren't very compelling or funny enough. This mainly
occurs after they get back from the mother's party. Valentino becomes stiff and formula and not very

"You stole these kids' bike" sounds on the nose.
On page 3, Diane sounds on the nose when she tells Suzy she should get married and have a child.
Diane tells Suzy it's not about her age, it's what's inside that counts, but later she seems inconsistent

On another note, twice Diane is described as being "very pregnant." Once is enough.
It's unclear why Suzy tells Josephine that she models.

He asked me help set up the party, for his OWN birthday. I couldn't believe he had to set up his own birthday on the day it was. He was on his phone texting our cousin, george. "Howwww Niceeee!" He said, when he got a text! "You know what's nice...MY DREAM you interrupted!" He told me he was going to tug me out of bed. He was not kidding, he actually dragged me through the house, all the way outside. He grabbed a bunch–o–balloon party pack, and started blowing them up. I popped "em" with my tacs."Good practice for my right arm." I said sarcastically. I got up because I was bored.I started to wonder off. Bub grabbed me before I could do anything though. I asked him if we could play "bolleyball." He said it was pronounced volleyball, but I beg to to differ. I grasped a stick and said"Jolly ol duel for 2 considerable chaps? What do ya say, Bubble boy?" I teased and said. I threw him one as I got one myself. We clashed sticks as I pretended to be hurt to make him boastful. I said"ooooh the pain...THE AGONY... uaua..Bleh." pretty good death scene. I was in two years of drama class but got kicked out because I accidently set the stage on fire with a lighter. I saw it and ran to give it to the head of the class but tripped and it had ignited, setting the stage on fire. Luckily there was a fire extinguisher next to the entrance. • 11. Symbolism In Cathedral In the short story, Cathedral by Raymond Carver, the word "blind" acquires different meanings. The unnamed narrator is metaphorically blind; he can look at the surface of everything but not see what is inside. Although the narrator can listen to conversations, he cannot understand the deeper emotional context the conversation might hold, compared to Robert, who is visually impaired but can truly listen and understand. It is not until the end of the story that the narrator metaphorically opens his eyes, with assistance from Robert. The narrator has perfectly acceptable vision, he can see his wife, and he can see and describe Robert: "this blind man, feature this, he was wearing a full beard! A beard on a blind man! Too much, I say" (181). He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (188), because he understands what the purpose of cathedrals is, but he has no idea what they look like. The narrator attempts to describe a cathedral, but he does not know how to "...even begin to describe it." (188). The cathedral means nothing to him, and he admits to Robert that when it comes to religion: "'I guess I don't believe in it. In anything. Sometimes it's hard.'" (189). When Robert suggests that they draw a cathedral together, hand over hand, the narrator becomes nervous and cautious, he is unsure what do. After a little bit, the narrator became more comfortable and "...couldn't stop" drawing (190). The narrator then closes his eyes to finish off the drawing, and at that moment with Robert, he metaphorically opens his eyes. He does not exactly know what happened, but he knows something positively changed, he felt like "it [was] really something." (190). He has an out of body experience, "...I didn't feel like I was inside anything" (190), an epiphany. Carver does not entirely explain the ending or what happens next, but one can be optimistic and assume that Robert changed the narrator for the better, by making him close his eyes to ... • 13. Acousmatic Sounds In Cinema Acousmatic sounds in cinema are those sounds that are present without a visible source. The sounds are aural elements used in the film and embody a spatial quality within themselves. Acousmatic and non–acousmatic sounds are essential in cinema because they provide the spectator with a better understanding of the film through both visuals and sound. Michel Chion explores the idea of the acousmatic sound in his essay The Voice in Cinema where he talks about Acousmatic sounds in conjunction with religion where the priests/ religious leaders would often sit behind a curtain and deliver speeches. Chion draws ideas from Psychoanalysis and connects it with acousmatic sounds. In the context of psychoanalysis, the therapist's voice is a substitute of an acousmatic sound when the patient is in a state of hypnosis. The idea of an acousmatic sound can be understood with the example of a radio. The voice of a radio jockey is acousmatized since it doesn't have a visible source but the presence of the radio jockey helps us to imagine a kind of presence through the medium of sound. Laurianne and Gervais give birth to 5 distinct guys, but Zac is particularly special. He supposedly has a 'gift ' where he can cure burns, and heal people, but little do they know; his special gift is that he is gay. The film C.R.A.Z.Y uses diegetic elements, selecting specific events, and a four–part structure to display narrative. In the exposition, we see that this family is very religious because they are shown going to midnight mass. The second aspect we learn that will be very significant is that he was premature and was dropped, so it would explain why his family thinks he has a gift and why he has a scar on his head. We also learn that his desires are ignored based on stereotypes and gender norms. In the second section of the film, we get a sense that his character has changed. He's much more rebellious shown by the scene where he puts his music even louder, after his dad lowered it, and when his father puts his cigarette out, he blew smoke right back into his face. He also starts smoking pot and expresses that he no longer believes in his religion. Although he begins to reject the Catholic Church, he secretly wants help from God. • 22. Scene Analysis : Over The Rainbow Unaccompanied, the song "Over the Rainbow" tells the story of a girl dreaming of a world that is not her own. But with visual aids and closer attention to the nuances in instrumentation, the song reveals an uncomfortable duality – that between pursuing one's dreams and staying close to home. The shot composition of the scene in which Dorothy sings "Over the Rainbow" tells a story itself. The scene is composed of one brief shot and two long takes, the first of which is centered on Dorothy throughout. Suddenly, abruptly, the scene cuts mid–sentence to a smiling Toto who is wagging his tail. Initially, the cut seems to serve no purpose – it does not further the narrative, nor does it come into play later. But a keen eye, or ear rather, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This foreshadows that Dorothy will no longer crave the radical freedom that she is singing about once she has experienced a different world. Interestingly, the scene ends with Dorothy singing "Why then, oh why can't I?" which is in the minor key, representing Kansas. This subtlety foreshadows Dorothy's decision to return home after successfully escaping to Oz. Before Dorothy even begins to sing, the song is introduced by a fluty melody that is reminiscent of birds chirping. Birdsong is an explicit indicator of the natural world, and is often associated with tranquility. This serene melody, coupled with the look of wonder on Dorothy's face, helps communicate that Dorothy is journeying to a new world – one of her own creation, that is peaceful and distinct from her life in Kansas. As soon as Dorothy belts out her first note, the melody immediately drops to middle C, and the remaining sections of the orchestra join in, creating a much richer, fuller sound than the ethereal "chirping" that preceded it, as if the melody is returning from the fantastical world that Dorothy has dreamed up. Yet, a mere 2 beats later, Dorothy returns to her imaginative dream that is associated with a higher pitch, by jumping an entire octave. In this jump, Dorothy reaches C that is between middle C and high C, and the melody is left unfulfilled – it is as if she is trying to reach high C, but is not quite there. Dorothy is caught ... The Benefits Of The Black Market Kryslin Cotton English 1301 Professor Cain 23 November 2016 Under Ground Kings: The Benefits of the Black Market Why is there over 120 thousand people waiting on an organ transplant? Why are there 44 million uninsured people in the United States alone? Why is it that 1 in 10 americans cannot afford their medical medications? All simply answered by the fact that it's all too expensive. The poverty level, according to USDA 2015, in the United States for a family of four is $24 thousand. With so many conditions, cancers, and diseases, everyone should have equal health opportunity, but this is not the case. In turn, the population turns to alternative sources of help: such as the Black Market. The black market is basically any service or good in exchange for money that isn't legal. According to Amy Fontinelle, author of "The Mechanics of the Black Market", illegal operations could be as simple as "[...] bartering and not reporting the taxable value of the transaction, or hiring a regular housekeeper or babysitter, but failing to pay employment taxes (Fontinelle)." Black markets contort and falsify government records. Many people enter the world of black markets because they do not want to or are not able to acquire licenses for certain occupations due to governmental restrictions. Such as in New York, to become a licensed taxi driver, one must purchase a medallion which cost $600 thousand or more; they turn to black market alternatives until they are caught. In extenuating ... This thorough editing style is suddenly interrupted by an unconventional montage. The montage is unconventional in the sense that instead of using cuts, it uses movement to proceed to the next scene; for instance, a car would pass through the original scene that the spectator was viewing and then the new scene would be in its place. The montage also appears to be peculiar because of its random nature. The scene before the montage shows Casper engaging in sexual intercourse with Jennie, who is unconscious on a couch while surrounded by other unconscious kids. Despite whispering no, her intoxicated struggle against him fails and the scene fades to black. Their hushed voices are replaced by somber music, which ushers in the montage of the film. The audience is then presented with random takes of a man rocking back and forth on a street corner, a man banging his head against a gate, and a man with his hands lifted toward the sky in a park; while people walk by as if their behavior is ordinary. The story about a sighted man who lacks vison, but encounters a blind man who has spiritual vison. In consequence of the encounter the narrator wakes up and realized he has been blind his whole life. In the story the narrator seems very narcissistic and narrow minded. The narrators' ideas and characterizations of the blind were influenced by the television. Not only, was the narrator bothered by the fact that the character was blind, but it also, bothered him to think that he might be slow in moving and felt the blind had no sense of humor, which later through the story he mentioned the characterization of the blind came from a movie he had seen days before. In addition, the narrator seems to be insensitive towards the blind and his situation. For instance, this can be shown in the way he joked to his wife about taking the blind friend out bowling. The narrator is well aware that in order to bowl you must have the ability to see the bowling pins. As can be seen, the narrator is very judgmental, insensitive, and does not seem like the type of person who would be caught in an arts museum. From a different angle, the narrator is stuck solely in the world of appearance which is repressed by the television in the story. Also, he seems emphatic and has a very superficial concept of relationships. For example, the narrator states that the blind man's relationship with his now deceased wife, was "beyond his understanding", he sums up the relationship by stating "They'd married, lived and worked together, slept together, had sex, sure, and then the blind man had to bury her. All this without his having ever seen what the goddamned women looked like." In short, this comes to show that the narrator care too much about how a person looks or how other people look, about what you say and do and what other people say and do. All things considered, the narrator feels very little compassion over the blind man, he feels as though he can see right through him, based on what he has seen on the television and the things he had heard, without attempting to give him the benefit of the doubt. While he is doing this, actions too small to be seen from the audience, a live streaming is being projected up onto the whiteboard behind to show us, as the audience, what he is looking at. Al starts to read a page from a book which has been marked down and as he starts to read a voice over starts reading the same words, quietly at first and as that gradually builds up in volume, Al?s voice decreases in volume till its just the voice over reading out the words from the book. This is one of the first links to the past, a key theme in the performance, as the voice over is the voice of G H Hardy, the great mathematician reading from his own book. We were introduced to the performance by the character Ruth giving a maths lecture, simple at first but then getting extremely difficult to follow, going off on a tangent, using mathematical terminology I had never even heard of. • 40. Over The Rainbow Analysis "Over the Rainbow," or popularly known as "Somewhere over the Rainbow" is a poignant ballad expressing a deep longing and hope of an escape from the worldly troubles. The song was originally written for the 1939 movie, The Wizard of Oz, with its music created by Harold Arlen and lyrics by Yip Harburg. It won the Best Original Song in the Academy Awards on the same year. "Over the Rainbow" is one of the greatest American standards of the 20th century, a cultural gem significant for preservation. The song also ranked first in the Songs of the Century List, the result of a survey of America's musical and cultural heritage. Since then, many covers had been recorded by artists who had their own unique interpretation of the musical piece. Judy Garland's rendition of the song reminds me of my dad's collection of 1940s records. She sings in a soft, melodic voice reflective of the musical style in that era. The tempo is slow, the vocals are more emphasized than the orchestra's instrumentation. Garland's original version of the song is best remembered because of her role as Dorothy Gale in "The Wizard of Oz." In the movie, she sang about "the place where she won't get into trouble." The song captured the hearts of the audience since it was a symbolic piece where many individuals can relate to. The dreams of the ideal and the hope of a brighter future was evident in the song. To start the project I had to be mindful at what I want to communicate in my animation, in regards to depression as it is a sensitive topic to be discussed and be shown in an animation. I was confident in the subject and knew what I wanted to convey, so I continued with the concept. To begin my journey I had to do research on various different topics to further expand my knowledge dealing with depression suitably, and how I will depict this subject more thoughtfully which is also artistic, as well as realistic and expresses more of a fantasy nature. • 48. The Effect Of Daylight And Control On Artificial Light And... ABSTRACT: Availability of daylight in a building not only improves the well–being of an individual but also plays an important role in reducing our dependence on artificial light and the operational cost of a building. Daylight if not controlled could cause the major problem of solar heat gain in a building and thus causing an increase in the air–conditioning cost of the building especially in warm climates. Offices being one of the building categories that need to be well lit regardless of their size and location, it is important to optimize the daylight and control the heat gain in an office building. This paper discusses the different daylight strategies to achieve this. 1. INTRODUCTION "A room is not a room without natural light." –Louis I Khan Buildings in the residential, commercial and public sectors are responsible for 20–40% of the total energy consumption in the world [Pérez–Lombard, L. Ortiz, J. and Pout, C., (2008)]. Around 70% of this consumption is spent on artificial light and air–conditioning systems [Energy Information Administration, (2008)]. Especially in office buildings as shown in Fig.1.1 [Guide to Best Practice Maintenance & Operation of HVAC Systems for Energy Efficiency (January 2012)] that the energy consumption due to HVAC is 39% and lighting is 25%. In countries having warm climates like India require cooling of buildings for almost 6–8 months to provide thermal comfort to the occupants. The energy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. Movie Review : The War On Drugs After an increasing interest for television series based on true stories, Netflix came out with their own version of such a TV show. Narcos, a television show based around the life of drug kingpins of the 1980s, suddenly hit the international audience after its style of shooting and storyline struck interest among many. The show is set in Columbia and Netflix describes it as "The true story of Colombia's infamously violent and powerful drug cartels fuels this gritty new gangster drama series," (Netflix, 2015). So far two seasons have been released on Netflix which mainly emphasizes the sudden rise and gradual downfall of Pablo Escobar's life and the Medellin Cartel, however the coming seasons are set to portray the other drug cartels that carried on after Pablo Escobar was killed. The director José Padilha created the show in such a way that it truly brings out the American perspective on the war on drugs in Columbia; one that has left a significant mark in Columbian history. Padilha closely recreated the law enforcement's –Drug Enforcement Agency and the Columbian police's – involvement in the war against Pablo Escobar and the Medellin Cartel, through DEA agent Steve Murphy's (Boyd Holbrook) voice over narration in episodes. Moreover the TV show is bilingual (with subtitles) made in a documentary styled footage (Pantera, 2015) I want to begin with describing the first episode of the series and Jason Mittel's evaluation of the pilot episode in complex television. • 52. Drug Issues Among Teens According to Dr. Manny Alvarez in his article, teenage drug use in America is becoming an epidemic and needs to be addressed as soon as possible. In his article titled, "Teen drug abuse becoming an epidemic, must be addressed," he mention about two of the most abused drugs among the teenagers of this country. He said that the two most common drugs being used by teenagers are Marijuana also known by its street name "Weed" and Pain Killers. The article offered some decent explanation as to why the drug use is problematic. It was stated in the article that, "A report released Wednesday by The Partnership at Drugfree.org showed that "heavy" marijuana use among teenagers is up 80 percent, with one in 10 teens reporting that they use the drug at least 20 times a month." As it's stated in the numbers, an increase of 80% in anything is a pretty huge dramatic turn. An 80% increase in the use of marijuana; not just the use of it in a recreational way, but also a "heavy" use of it. It also stated above that one in ten teens reported to be using this drug at least 20 times in a month. Also in the article was another drug that causes concern to our teenager's futures, Painkiller. In the article, Painkiller was mostly emphasized on because it was more harmful in my opinion than marijuana. The article informed the reader that in 2010, over 5.1 million people in the United States took painkillers without any medical reasons or use. The article by Dr. Alvarez says that, ... • 54. Persuasive Essay On Stay In Control Kate Wang Professor Lang Eng 101 25 September 2017 Don't Let Smoking Control Your Life In today's growing society, smoking is still a major problem among many humans. A lot of teens and young adults are revealed to the effects of smoking through the exposure of secondhand smoke. The presence of secondhand smoke can be encountered through family members, friends, and even people in the surrounding area. Since smoking is so accessible, anyone is able to obtain a cigarette. The result of smoking, however, presents undesirable outcomes. As an example, cancer, lung disease, a change in lifestyle and personality, or impacted decisions. Similarly, the advertisement campaign "Stay In Control" by The Real Cost introduces us to Amanda Green – a teenage girl who finally has the independence to define who she is. However, before she can, Amanda gives up part of her freedom to smoking. The losses of freedom to smoking includes everything from her life, her money, her boundaries, etc. Through the use of vivid imagery, voiceover, and sad emotions, the ad "Stay In Control" effectively conveys a message about the harmful effects of smoking to its intended audience: teens and young adults. During the youth ages 12–17, the use of tobacco is consistently established and started. Adolescents who are open to cigarettes attempt to try it and many who try a cigarette move to addictive, regular use. Likewise, the powerful imagery presented in this ad gives the audience a sense of relation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 64. Causes Of Affluenza In America Affluenza is a culture in which the urge to consume dominates the psychology of citizens. Advertising and capitalism are the main causes of affluenza in America. According to the textbook, "affluenza is a painful, contagious, socially transmitted condition of overload, debt, anxiety and waste resulting from the dogged, pursuit of more". Forces such as advertising, cultural norms, the political economy, social pressures, and psychological associations shape the consumption patterns in consumers. According to Speth, "America is a consumer society in which consumerism and materialism are central aspects of the dominant culture, where goods and services are acquired not only to satisfy common needs but also to secure identity and meaning". Consumers remain unfulfilled and are driven to seek more possessions, due to meaning and self–realization not being met, nor basic psychological needs. One of the reasons that Americans suffer from affluenza more than consumers in other countries is because of the advertising in America. Businesses, marketers, and advertisers have discovered that colonizing the imagination of the child is the most effective way of securing a life–long conspicuous consumer. Between 1980 and 1997, the amount spent on children's advertising in America zoomed from $100 million to $1.5 billion a year. American children watch up to 200 television commercials per day.
