Salvador Dali Surrealism
From what I noticed in this poem, I read it as the man in the poem is not happy about winter and the
snow with cold weather. When the man says Snow on the flowery almond tree I read that as the man
saying that the snow is covering up all the good stuff on Earth. With Snow on the snow I read that as
more snow is covering up the good things on Earth. The same thing applies to whern he says It is like
flowering almond tree under the snow about how the snow is covering up all of the good things in the
world. It s too cold this afternoon in the world is saying that that afternoon almost all of the good
things in the world are all completely covered in snow and that no one is able to see then and
experience them. When the man says But I open the door to my dog and he comes into the warmth
this shows him as saving his dog from the cold and allowing his dog to to enter warmth with the rest
of humanity. The speaker (persona) for this poem is named Salvador Dali. This poet is what is known
as a surrealist. A serrealist is an artist or writer who is an exponent of the avant garde movement in art
and literature which sought to release the creative potential of the unconscious mind. Salvador Dali is
a Spanish artist and poet who originated from Spain.Salvador Dali s tone is more towards the sad and
gloomy side rather than the happy and sunny side of life, winter specifically. When he is talking about
the snow covering up all the good things in the world, I can tell that he is

How many spaces from the center of violet line to center of green line? 2 spaces. How many spaces
from the center of violet line to center of yellow line? 3 spaces.
4. Finding the nm/space for your spectroscope:
= difference in wavelength /# of spaces between two lines
Using the violet and green lines: =(538nm 436nm)/( 2 ) = 50 nm/space (value#1)
Using the violet and yellow lines: =(580nm 436nm)/( 3 ) = 48 nm/space (value#2)
Average nm/space: = (Value #1 +Value #2)/2 = (50+48)/2 = 49 nm/space
Agreement of the two values: % difference = 100 x |value 1 value 2|/(average value) = 100 x | 50 48 |/(
49 ) =4.1%
is this value 10%__Yes_.( go through calibration process until you can say yes. )
Your spectroscope is now calibrated. Do not move the light rod tape in place with clear tape if you
have not yet done so. In event that light rod moves, place reference mark in center of violet line, and
re secure light rod.
Questions and Conclusions:
Now that you better understand the functioning of a spectroscope, answer the following questions.
1. What is white light? White light is mixture of all color in spectra.
What experimental evidence do you personally have to support this idea? ( By looking to the white

Compensation Cases and Their Impact on China and Japan
History and the notion of compensation are two key aspects in the study of Sino Japanese relations.
During the 1980s, the opening up by the People s Republic of China s government about war atrocities
led a number of victims to seek reparations and apologies from Japan. Compensation cases were
brought forward from the 1990s and broke the silence about what had truly happened during the war.
Moreover, the rapid spread of new information about the past prompted increased tensions between
the two countries that had previously ignored the issue in order to privilege economic and diplomatic
cooperation. To date, the affiliation between China and Japan seems to have deteriorated significantly
and history is one of the main matters addressed in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The VAWW NET (Violence Against Women in War Network Japan), Chinese War Victims Lawyer s
Research Committee (now Chinese War Victims Compensation Claim Group), Society to Support the
Demands of Chinese War Victims (Rose, 2005, p.77), etc. are all joint organizations fighting for the
rights of the victims and trying to force Japan into taking legal responsibility for its actions and it is
still a work in progress today.
The creation of these Sino Japanese groups emphasizes the fact that the problem of compensation was
just as important for both sides and signified that the history issue hadn t been dealt with properly. The
280 members of the Chinese War Victims Lawyers Research Committee were ready to defend Chinese
victims in their lawsuits against Unit 731, the Comfort Women System, forced labour, etc. among
many more. Their research played a significant role in providing evidence (Rose, 2005, p.76) that
undermined Japan s stance on lack of sufficient evidence in order to accept legal liability for their
actions (Tow, 2009 ). The involvement of academics and citizens were equally important as they too,
discovered compelling evidence incriminating Japan and organizations such as Suopei counting over
2000 members are still collecting funds, providing evidence and reporting on the compensation
movement in order to continue on their quest for justice and recognition (Rose, 2005, p.77). Numerous
symposia were held in order to discuss war reparations and

To solve these problems a company can implement Wi Fi on their network. This can reduce the price
of implementing additional cable in the network.
Wi Fi technology comes with many upsides, but it also has it downfalls too.
Pros
The major advantage of Wi Fi is the fact that users do not need to be physically connected to the
network in order to access the Web and network resources. Wi Fi provides increased mobility. Among
employees, those who use a laptop will worry no more about connecting using a connection cable.
They will be able to move from their office to the meeting room without losing connection. Besides
eliminating much of the need for extensive wiring and dedicated workstation, Wi Fi means the
Internet is accessible anywhere users can pick up a signal, which allows for greater flexibility in office
configurations. Wi Fi systems can also be much less expensive to set up, since the main cost is in the
wiring to the main router. If an existing wired Internet network is already in place, adding Wi Fi
capabilities is relatively simple, with no need to purchase a dedicated workstation. Wi Fi systems are
also relatively inexpensive to operate and easy to use. For employees and authorized visitors to
connect to Wi Fi does not present any technical difficulty. Depending on the router type simply enter
the WEP or WAP key associated with your Wi Fi after double clicking the icon Wireless Network
Connection . After a

How Did Mao s Use Of Communism Affect China
Mao had a very questionable rule over China. Beginning in 1934, he used communism as his guide
and transformed China and its policies. From kicking out Chiang and the GMD, to causing the deaths
of millions of innocent chinese citizens, he shifted how citizens in China live their everyday life. His
death in 1976 ended his reign, but the horrors and atrocities still continued on, disrupting the personal
lives of all of China. As the chinese government creates new reforms and policies in China from 1945
1991, all human rights were constantly being violated, resulting in mass amounts of death caused by
Mao s poor leadership. The Hundred Flowers Campaign (1956 1957) and The Great Leap Forward
(1958 1960) were two reforms that negatively affected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
China s position as a superpower was achieved through the great suffrage of all of its citizens. Many
would argue that China doesn t deserve its position in the world, due to the millions of innocent deaths
due to the violations of human rights. However, China s future is bright. For example, China changed
its One Child Policy to a Two Child Policy in 2016, after about 35 years of loss of rights, family
control, and murders. This improvement is one of many that China has taken into their hands to
improve. The world should look at China s improvement, rather than its past, and acknowledge that
China is trying to make China a better place than its previous China, no matter how hard that may

Nano Crystaline Magnetic Materials
Nano crystalline magnetic materials exhibit a variety of unusual and remarkable magnetic properties
that are not observed in bulk system [1,2]. Magnetic spinel nano ferrites have attracted the interest of
the researchers due to their importance in understanding the fundamentals of nano magnetism and
their wide range of applications. They found potential applications in biomedicine such as Magnetic
Resonance Imaging (MRI), targeted drug delivery, magnetic separation [3 6] and high density data
storage [7]. Nowadays, almost every part of the electronic device manufactured contains some
ferromagnetic spinel ferrite materials. Loud speakers, antenna rods, deflection yokes, radar absorbers,
humidity sensors, memory devices, recording heads, inductors and so many are frequency based on
ferrites. Properties of ferrites are dependent upon various factors such as composition, method of
preparation, substitution and doping of different cations, sintering temperature and duration, grain size
and their distribution [8, 9]. The most common method to acquire improved electrical, optical and
magnetic properties is the substitution of suitable impurity at the octahedral and tetrahedral sites.
NiCuZn ferrites are excellent soft magnetic materials in high frequency device due to their low cost,
high resistivity and low eddy current losses that have been extensively studied for multi layer chip
inductor (MLCI) applications [10]. NiCuZn Ferrite materials are widely used in various

The Law of Nature Must Carry its Punitive Consequences...
Something is rotten in the state of Denmark (1.4.98) but there are a variety of different infections that
all contribute to one main conflict. Each character within the play has not only his or her own inner
trials to fight against but also each of these issues form together to create the corruption in Denmark.
Throughout the course of the play each character learns to deal with his or her internal battles and
each conflict combines with others to create one singular, complex problem. It seems as though every
issue ties together to form a tangled web leading ultimately to the demise of seven key characters.
There isn t a single character within the play that understands the big picture or the consequences of
their actions. Because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though Ophelia does love Hamlet she chooses her father s advice, Polonius, instead. Polonius is much
like Gertrude because he is trying to help Hamlet, but also fell into Claudius scheming. Like any
father figure he is concerned about the interactions between Hamlet and Ophelia which draws his
attention away from the king and focuses only on Hamlet s faults. It seems as though Polonius is a
race horse with blinders on; only seeing one point ahead and not the danger beside him. His simplistic
thoughts allow him to be an easily persuaded character and throughout the play we see him trying to
impress whoever is with him at the time; proving the point that he is also a great contender in the
decay of Denmark. Polonius is killed by Hamlet which leads to a new factor in the already messy
equation called Elsinore; this factor being Laertes. Laertes is driven by revenge of his father s death; a
mighty cause with no understanding of the effects of his actions. During the rising action he is an
insignificant character due to the fact that for a majority of the play he is at school in France; although,
when news of his father s murder reaches him he charges forth with sword held high and no
knowledge of the events leading up to the crime.
While Hamlet lollygags and broods over the murder for much of the play, Laertes takes immediate
action (Schmoop.com). The main difference between Hamlet and Laertes is that Hamlet

Being Present 1. When I arrived to class I expected myself and my students to be fully present. If they
were experiencing joy, sadness, a burden, I would have them share with the class before continuing
on. This allowed my students to be focused on the now and not on what happened or will happen. An
exercise that helped them accomplish this was to write something down that may be hindering them
from being present and deposit it, without their name, into a classroom box. Temprarily, I was able to
clear their mind and get them focused on what is happening now. See more at:

Self Aware . Being self aware while teaching meant that I was aware of what I was saying, what I was

decisions I made in and out of class. This is also what I encouraged in my students. Encouraging
students to be self aware, they consciously paid more attention. The learner proactively viewed
themselves from the position of their higher self, through their feelings thoughts, decisions, and
actions. I expected no less of them than what I expected of myself. Unskilled. Two areas that I am not

Similarities Between The Stranger And Waiting For Godot
In Literature class, we read The Stranger by Albert Camus and Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett.
The two stories are both similar and different in many ways. I m comparing and contrasting these
stories because they both have existential themes, but the stories are presented very differently. In this
essay, I ll be comparing and contrasting three similarities and three differences between The Stranger
and Waiting for Godot . Repetition is shown in both pieces of literature. In The Stranger , Meursault s
daily schedule is repeated. He goes to the same restaurant and orders the same meal every day, which
is part of his routine. In Waiting for Godot , the character s dialogues are frequently repeated. Nothing
to be done , is one example of repetition in dialogue. In the first half dozen pages of the play the
phrase is repeated about four times. (Anonymous, schoolworkhelper.net). Additionally, the days in
Waiting for Godot are probably also repeated. In both pieces of literature, the characters freedom is
limited but the form of restriction is different. In the second part of The Stranger , Meursault s
freedom is (physically) restricted by the law. He lost his freedom because he was ordered to go to jail.
Meursault lost his freedom to live at the end of the story. On the other hand, Vladimir and Estragon s
freedom is also limited because they were waiting for Godot.
Estragon: Let s go.
Vladimir: We can t. Estragon: Why not?

What Are The Effects Of Internment On Japanese Americans
Japanese Americans were effected by internment in multiple ways, both mental and physical. They
were forced to leave their homes and into dehumanizing conditions. They received poor housing and
medical treatment along with little to no education. While they were being relocated to these areas,
they were losing their land and properties. In Ronald Reagan and Redress for Japanese American
Internment, 1983 88 by Timothy Maga, East Coast redress activist and former internee, Grant Ujifusa,

A study done by researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine tracked 500 older runners
over the span of 20 years. At the end of the study, researchers found that runners had fewer
disabilities, were half as likely to have an early death and had a longer span of active life when

When does a conspiracy theory no longer become just a theory? When it s the truth. Most of you, I m

not a cloud in sight. Today, every time I look at the sky, I can t help but shake my head in
disappointment and disgust. Our planet is being sprayed, and our air supply and skies tainted. The
chemtrails topic is not a myth, it s fact. The evidence piles as high as the trails. Numerous doctors

Makeup Of Makeup
Samuel Pepys did make note of the heavy makeup used by Nell Gwynne and her co worker Mrs.
Knepp on stage, and how frightful he found it, so it is likely that even if makeup, in general, had an
artificial look, stage makeup went a few steps further. Red cheeks connoted youthfulness and health,
yellow cheeks age and illness. The eyes were outlined with black and shaded with colored pigment,
blue being quite popular. Hair powder was used on the stage as well, and the color of it could be used
either to compliment the actor or actress s look, or be chosen to suit the character they played. False
facial hair was another means to change an actor s look. Makeup in the 17th and 18th century was
quite simple, but with a very artificial look. The ideal, for both men and women, was a pale face,
enhanced with cosmetics aimed to lighten the complexion or with white makeup. As with the lips,
there is no real evidence that brows were blotted out and repainted higher up on the brow, though that
may have happened in the theatre for effect. Patches were very popular throughout both the 17th and
18th century, most commonly round and black made out of taffeta, velvet or paper, but larger and
more elaborate shapes were also in use (Samuel Pepys diary).
Theatre goers also enjoyed seeing women in breeches roles in which a female character disguised
herself as a man by wearing tight pants that exposed their legs. Breeches roles are found in plays from
the 1660s, such as Nell Gwyn as Florimel

The Mythology Of Thor, Apollo, And Other Gods
Much of culture that people have been apart of throughout the centuries has largely been contributed
to the religion in which is followed. For instance, the Greeks believed in Zeus, Apollo, and other gods
of that nature. With the progression of time, however, these religions have slowly faded turning into
simple myths of the past. Many former religions are now mere myths. One in particular stills plays an
influential role in today s modern society, and that is Norse mythology. More specifically, Thor, one of
the many gods of the Norse religion, can still be found throughout the cultures of the world. Although
Thor is no longer necessarily a god, more of a legend, he still can be found in many tales and stories.

Overall, what is now considered Norse mythology was once a thriving religion with many follows
who had hopes for life after death. Similar to many other religions, Norse mythology holds one very
particular, and special figure that many look up to for guidance and wisdom. In this case, that person
is Thor. Thor is certainly, one of the more popular and important gods in Norse mythology. Thor is the
son of the God of the gods, Odin, and his wife, Fyorgyn. His destined duty, is to protect the Aesir god
and their fortress known as Asgard. Many of Thor s tales are that of him protecting his people and
saving the world. Quite often, Thor is dedicated as having a red beard, the eyes of fire, and being as
large as a monster. This image is the intimidating factor which, in many ways, drives his power and
undeniable strength. Many of his tales follow him into battles with his sidekick goats, Tanngniost and
Tanngrisnir, and his brother Loki. More often than not, Thor wins these battle because of his almost
indomitable strenght. With these characteristics, Thor has become the archetype of loyalty and that of
an honorable warrior, which still holds true today. As a god, Thor has a very important role. He is
considered the storm and weather good, similar to the Greek Zeus. His job, as mentioned before, is to
defend the world and also to control the never ending skies. His hammer, Mjollnir is what gives him

times less the population it has a bit more of Crime Per Capita. There are many factors that might
explain the differences in the rates for example unemployment, the relationship between the
community and the police departments, and possibly the ratio between social classes of high class,
middle classes and low classes. Also any political agendas, or even laws could affect the social
economical differences between metropolitan cities, disregarding the size of the population.
Conclusion

Loyalty In Faulkner s Barn Burning
The strongest theme in the story Barn Burning, represented to me is of loyalty to family versus doing
what is right. Sartoris must decide whether loyalty to family or doing the right thing is ethically an
essential thing. For Abner, Sartoris s father, family loyalty is prized above all else. You got to learn to
stick to your own blood or you ain t going to have any blood to stick to you (Faulkner, William 1939).
Their family appears to exist separate to the society of the time, and their principles appeared founded
on family loyalty as opposed to the traditional value of right over wrong, which also caused them to
rely on one another for support.
Blood is used to underscore the strength of the tie within the family. One instance portrayed

The Wretched Of The Earth By Franz Fanon
Fanon One issue of Freud s psychoanalytic theories and the psychosexual stages is exposed through
examining Frantz Fanon. During the 1950 s Fanon found residency in France and wrote about the
impact of colonialism subjugation of blacks. The focus was on the negative psychological effects
brought out by the trauma of the events. Loss of personal identity, reactionary psychoses and defense
mechanisms were all brought up related to the war involving the algerians. An interesting conclusion
from Fanon is that there are mental defenses to protect a person from mental disorders such as Case
No.1 s wife. Its implied that simple differences, such as knowing the information a person is being
tortured for, can greatly impact whether or not they acquire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Freud believed the libido to be of crucial importance in personality, but he maintained that other
impulses, particularly aggression, also play significant shaping roles (Lilienfeld, 2013). This
compliments Fanon s findings within The Wretched Of The Earth. Rape, and by nature sexuality, were
used as tools of aggression. Although linked in use as a means of torture, both for the captive and
those surrounding the victim s, credit must be given to Freud s theory for correctly identifying
sexuality and aggression as different traits. Unfortunately Trait theory, from Freud s perspective, still
relies heavily on genetic predisposition. The divergence from sexuality and aggression comes in the
form of survivability. It s a reactionary response to protect and survive that likely developed from our
descendants. The largest flaw with the theory of aggression is that the id is claimed to operate on the
pleasure principle and immediate gratification. This reconnects aggression and sexuality in
circumstances such as Fanon described. There is gratification in domination by this assumption.
Relating this to the story of Oedipus it could be viewed that killing his Father and laying with his
Mother are the same action in personality development. The mutual suppression of aggression and
sexuality are necessary in continuing a child s development beyond the Phallic

Happiness In America
Happiness is the only thing in this world that is neither measurable, profitable, nor tradeable. Despite
this fact, it is still desperately sought by all. They want to have happiness, and want to know they have
a lot of it. However happiness, like air or water, is a hard thing to grasp in one s hand. It is intangible
and nebulous. So how do people know if they have it? That is for them to decide. Generally, happiness
has to do with an emotional and mental state of welfare that can be characterized through pleasant and
positive emotion such as contentment and joy. Like beauty, happiness is indiscernible. Beauty is in the
eye of the beholder similar to how happiness is in the mind of a human. Happiness can only be

The parenting happiness gap is an idea that parents are not as happy as adults without children. In
America, the happiness gap is one of the largest among first world countries. American parents report
being 12% less happier after having kids CITATION. Researchers discovered that the gap could be
explained by differences in family friendly social policies such as subsidized child care and paid
vacation and sick leave. Having kids in America is financial and emotional burden. The average
middle class American family will have spent more than $245,340 on each child by the time they are
18. The United States provides minimal assistance to parents, including paid parental leave,
mandatory paid sick and vacation days, subsidized child care, and work schedule flexibility
(Swanson). Another study shows that having children makes parents less happy with their sex life,
causes depression and sleep deprivation, and hastens marital decline. Gross Loh points to Americans
anxiety around children s college and future prospects, and also to our emphasis on keeping children
physically safe, and the harsh judgment of parents who are perceived to be doing a poor job of

The Scream Is One Of The Most Recognized Pieces Of Art
Edvard Munch s painting The Scream is one of the most recognized pieces of art throughout history.
He created this masterpiece in the year of 1893 and continued on to create three different versions of
the painting (Paulson). The image shows a deathly pale, skull shaped head man clutching his hands
over his ears, facing the audience, screaming with his mouth opened wide. There are two silhouettes
behind the screaming man on the left hand side of the bridge, while the sky is bloody and the water in
the fjord rushing. On Edvard Munch s official website, the biography mentions that Munch grew up
with is mother and older sister, his two role models, dying from tuberculosis at a young age. Leaving
him and his younger siblings with their emotionally detached father, who would torment them about
going to hell and burning, among other issues (Munch). The emotional torment Munch went through
in his early life, plagued him throughout his life and career, which resulted him creating many
different works of art with the sense of loneliness and desperation. Munch s use of contrast and
composition symbolizes the representation of man; the inner turmoil one may face throughout life.
Munch s use of a bold composition intends to show the viewers the intended form and structure of the
painting. There are three dynamic lines within the painting: the line for railing, the line for the blood
red horizon, and the line showing the flow of the fjord. All these lines are to direct the viewers eye

Essay on Examining a Business Failure
Examining a Business Failure: Tyco International Ltd. ®
LDR 531
August 23, 2010
Examining a Business Failure: Tyco International Ltd. ® Many have heard the proverb, A chain is
only as strong as its weakest link. This can be directly applied to business organizations through
analysis of the three strongest and/or weakest links: managers, leaders and the organizational
structure. These three areas provide the central core to any organization and are often linked to
dramatic failures and consequences when weaknesses arise. In this paper, the student will discuss the
2002 failure of Tyco International Ltd. ® (Tyco) in which the Securities and Exchange Commission
(SEC) filed a lawsuit claiming fraud, reporting violations, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While this was only one of many claims held by the SEC, it shows the fraudulent nature of the
accusations. Additionally, the SEC pursued harsh consequences for the crimes as a means to offer
restitution to all investors damaged by the executive s actions (U.S. Securities and Exchange
Commission, 2010).
Managers and Leaders While it is difficult to offer a specific definition of a manager and leader, the
type of control used to manage/persuade employees can offer a clear distinction. A manager often uses
a bureaucratic, authoritative style, and a leader most often relies on charisma and influence to achieve
goals. Neither style is better than the other; however, one may achieve greater results dependent upon
the situation. According to Yuki, within the management atmosphere, many decision processes are
disorderly and political (2006, p. 26). In the case with Tyco, many actions completed by the
accounting department were highly political, being based upon information directly from the CEO.
During the legal investigation, the SEC found that no employees (with the exception of those
specifically named in the lawsuit) were found in violation of any law. The SEC concluded that

comparison of the Met and Guggenheim Essay
New York City has been called the greatest city in the world numerous times by its own people and
visitors to the city. New York is civilization s greatest world within a city. It gives the overpowering
impression of being a magnet and mirror for all of humanity and all that humanity does. For a city so
young, New York is home to number of architectural classics. Two of these masterpieces of
architecture are the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Both continue the
metaphor of New York being a world within a world and possess the latent fusion of form and
function, one dependent on the other. The Metropolitan Museum is the epitome of neo Classical style
while the Guggenheim is a modernist powerhouse. Each museum serves ... Show more content on

Located on Fifth Avenue and 83rd street (just inside Central Park), it is a living encyclopedia of world
art (picture 12). Every culture from every part of the world, from past to present is represented and is
in fact the largest collection of art work in the entire Western Hemisphere. Let us now take a look at
the impression each building gives the viewer.
The Met and the Guggenheim possess two of the most famous museum façade s in the world. Upon
first glance at the Guggenheim Museum, one is both impressed and intrigued by its design (pictures 1
4). It is an organic form that derives its source from Central Park located just opposite. The best
impression of the structure is obtained from just across the street (picture 1). The attention to detail is
evident everywhere the circular pattern of the sidewalk outside the museum, the porthole like
windows on its south side (picture 4), and the smoothness of the hand plastered concrete. The main
component on the west façade (facing Fifth Ave) is represented by an upward spiraling helix (pictures
1 3). Horizontal lines are stressed throughout the exterior, with the museum being longer than it is tall.
There are very few corners, with smoothness and blending of form the focus. The museum gives an
impression of stacked shapes with its long horizontal base, the viewing room capped by a steel
structure on the north façade, the spiraling helix

Analysis Of Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass
Reid Champlin
Mrs. Stack
AP English, Period 7
14 August 2015
In His Own Words: Analysis of The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass They say that one can
never fully understand a situation until he/she is put into that scenario themselves. Too often, history is
written by those who have only read and researched the issues, remaining distant and objective to get
all the facts straight. While there is honor in this approach, one cannot experience the horror of war,
the thrill of victory, or the reality of a situation if written from a third person perspective. No, history
is best told by those who have participated in it: the soldiers who crawled through the muddy trenches,
the revelers who celebrated the great national victory, or the people who did not witness history, but
made it. Particularly on the issue of slavery, copious amounts of writing exist on both the pro slavery
and anti slavery side from scholars, politicians, and citizens supporting their views, but very little
exists from the perspective of slaves and former slaves. This in part is what makes The Narrative of
the Life of Frederick Douglass, an autobiography of former slave and abolitionist Frederick Douglass,
so incredible and valuable to the American audience. Speaking with authority as one who has
experienced slavery firsthand, the self educated Douglass exquisitely manipulates a bevy of literary
devices, such as setting, writing style, and allegory, to illustrate the horrors of slavery and form a

Summer Road Trip
My Summer Road Trip The late June Texas sun was hot as it came through the window of my Caliber.
I had begun my road trip to the lake house in Mineola early that morning. I had dressed for comfort,
wearing my blue shorts and my favorite worn out tee, I knew it was going to be a long hot drive. As I
drove down the road, I soon realized that I had never been anywhere alone before. This was a new
feeling to me, one of strength and fear rolled into one.
While fighting the traffic to get out of town, I was thinking back on the conversation Mother and I had
had the night before. But what if you have to stop, what if you have a flat tire? mother s voice was full
of concern, You know a stranger can grab you, they prey on women traveling ... Show more content

White clouds of dust kicked up behind my car as I drove down the tiny one lane road. I could see the
house in the distance with the shimmering blue water just behind. I pulled into the driveway and just
stared out the car window at the view. The lush green grass flowed down to the water s edge, dotted
only by a few oak trees that gave perfect shade along the way. I felt as if I could literally melt into the
scenery. I had not noticed that the neighbor s dog, Maggie, had come to the car until I heard her soft
whine to get my attention. She was sitting next to the car wagging her tail as I opened the car door,
excited to have my company.
I unpacked the car and carried the few bags I had brought with me into the house. It was dark and cool
inside despite the summer s heat. I opened the blinds and was again mesmerized by the beautiful view.
I knew in that moment my coming here alone was just what I needed to heal from the stressful events
I had just been through. I did not even bother to unpack, but instead I kicked off my shoes and
immediately went with Maggie for a walk by the lake.
We walked down the soft dirt path that leads to my special sitting rock , which juts out over the water.
I could feel the cool dirt as it dusted over my bare feet and smelled the oak leaves as I walked under
the shade of the trees. Once we arrived at the paths end, I sat on my rock and watched the water
lapping against the sandy shore and listened to it echo as it splashed under

Jane Eyre, the Cinderella Copy Essay
Cinderella is a classic fairytale almost every person knows. Such recognition was earned through time
and it s originality. Yet from this well known tale, many stories have stemmed into their own
interesting aspects of virtually the same plot with similar characters. One of the related stories is Jane
Eyre by Charlotte Brontë. Brontë uses the main character Jane as Cinderella who finds her prince
charming. Even though Jane Eyre contains more about human nature and less of magic, it still
resembles the Cinderella archetype through Jane s early life and her relationship with Rochester. This
does not, however, help Jane Eyre, but makes it cliché.
Jane s early life can be defined as the classic Cinderella case beginning with Jane s orphaned ... Show

Jane and Mr. Rochester follow this pattern almost precisely. They fall in love somewhat similar to the
way Cinderella and her prince: reluctant at first, then extremely passionate. After separating, each sort
out his and her desires and reason after being apart then proceed to find each other. Jane finds
Rochester rather than the prince looking for Cinderella, but the emotional evolution and plot is the
same. Also, the rich vs. poor aspect is existent. In the end, both stories end with hero and heroine
together in a happy ending. This closely entwined connection gives the reader a feel of unoriginality
despite the differences.
The hugely obvious parallels overshadow those differences. Symbolism and superior development of
characters are blurred together and covered by the relationship to the fairytale, which is easier to
analyze. The novel greatly suffers from the comparison to Cinderella. From Jane and Cinderella s
analogous background, the reader easily assigns a Cinderella personality to Jane on first glance due to
their similarities. The dramatic events concerning Jane and Rochester are perceived in a rather
simplified manner from the relationship to the fairytale. Cinderella and the prince do not undergo any
of the conflicts between reason and passion that Jane and Rochester battle, but it is overlooked when a
reader is involved in predicting the story from his or her

Essay on Consequences of Conformity in The Chocolate War
Consequences of Conformity in The Chocolate War
Throughout Robert Cormier s The Chocolate War, the theme of the consequences of conformity, or
nonconformity, is expressed. Although The Chocolate War was first published in 1974, this theme still
pertains to the youth of today. This novel is timeless because teenagers will always face the choice of
whether to be true to themselves, or to conform to what other s expect of them. In response to this
theme, David Peck states, what this idea becomes is the concept of being true to oneself and standing
up to the evil that one perceives in the world (Peck 2). Furthermore, this idea is conveyed when Jerry
refuses to participate in his school s chocolate sale. At first he refuses to ... Show more content on

On the football field, he was struck from behind, a vicious blow to the kidneys, sickening in its
impact. His knees caved in and he sank to the ground again (Cormier 189). Peck believes that the only
character that is true to himself is Jerry but at a terrible price (Peck 2). Moreover, the constant theme
of being true to one s self that is expressed in The Chocolate War is not displayed in a positive way. It
can almost be seen as depressing. Throughout the entire novel, all of Jerry s attempts at being a
nonconformist are met with brutal attacks. Even if the attacks were not physical, they were
emotionally brutal. On the contrary, one can also look at Jerry s effort to conform. When he first
refused to sell the chocolates, it was because of his assignment. He did not want to upset the Vigils. In
return, this upset Brother Leon. In conclusion, this novel does not end on a positive note. Jerry is
defeated. He feels that all of his efforts were useless, and there is no way to stay true to one s self if
that means defying conformity. After his defeat, he tells his friend Goober not to disturb the universe
(Cormier 259). By this, he means that he regrets not conforming because of all the trouble it cause
him. Although the theme of the consequences of nonconformity is not displayed in a positive way, the
reader should still be able to find the

As a matter of public policy an employer should never be required to reinstate a unlawfully terminated

a violation of the Immigration and Reform Control Act of 1986, as well as a violation of the Legal
Arizona Workers Act. This would make the (fruit), or illegal alien employees the result of the

  • 2. Salvador Dali Surrealism From what I noticed in this poem, I read it as the man in the poem is not happy about winter and the snow with cold weather. When the man says Snow on the flowery almond tree I read that as the man saying that the snow is covering up all the good stuff on Earth. With Snow on the snow I read that as more snow is covering up the good things on Earth. The same thing applies to whern he says It is like flowering almond tree under the snow about how the snow is covering up all of the good things in the world. It s too cold this afternoon in the world is saying that that afternoon almost all of the good things in the world are all completely covered in snow and that no one is able to see then and experience them. When the man says But I open the door to my dog and he comes into the warmth this shows him as saving his dog from the cold and allowing his dog to to enter warmth with the rest of humanity. The speaker (persona) for this poem is named Salvador Dali. This poet is what is known as a surrealist. A serrealist is an artist or writer who is an exponent of the avant garde movement in art and literature which sought to release the creative potential of the unconscious mind. Salvador Dali is a Spanish artist and poet who originated from Spain.Salvador Dali s tone is more towards the sad and gloomy side rather than the happy and sunny side of life, winter specifically. When he is talking about the snow covering up all the good things in the world, I can tell that he is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Compensation Cases and Their Impact on China and Japan History and the notion of compensation are two key aspects in the study of Sino Japanese relations. During the 1980s, the opening up by the People s Republic of China s government about war atrocities led a number of victims to seek reparations and apologies from Japan. Compensation cases were brought forward from the 1990s and broke the silence about what had truly happened during the war. Moreover, the rapid spread of new information about the past prompted increased tensions between the two countries that had previously ignored the issue in order to privilege economic and diplomatic cooperation. To date, the affiliation between China and Japan seems to have deteriorated significantly and history is one of the main matters addressed in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The VAWW NET (Violence Against Women in War Network Japan), Chinese War Victims Lawyer s Research Committee (now Chinese War Victims Compensation Claim Group), Society to Support the Demands of Chinese War Victims (Rose, 2005, p.77), etc. are all joint organizations fighting for the rights of the victims and trying to force Japan into taking legal responsibility for its actions and it is still a work in progress today. The creation of these Sino Japanese groups emphasizes the fact that the problem of compensation was just as important for both sides and signified that the history issue hadn t been dealt with properly. The 280 members of the Chinese War Victims Lawyers Research Committee were ready to defend Chinese victims in their lawsuits against Unit 731, the Comfort Women System, forced labour, etc. among many more. Their research played a significant role in providing evidence (Rose, 2005, p.76) that undermined Japan s stance on lack of sufficient evidence in order to accept legal liability for their actions (Tow, 2009 ). The involvement of academics and citizens were equally important as they too, discovered compelling evidence incriminating Japan and organizations such as Suopei counting over 2000 members are still collecting funds, providing evidence and reporting on the compensation movement in order to continue on their quest for justice and recognition (Rose, 2005, p.77). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To solve these problems a company can implement Wi Fi on their network. This can reduce the price of implementing additional cable in the network. Wi Fi technology comes with many upsides, but it also has it downfalls too. Pros The major advantage of Wi Fi is the fact that users do not need to be physically connected to the network in order to access the Web and network resources. Wi Fi provides increased mobility. Among employees, those who use a laptop will worry no more about connecting using a connection cable. They will be able to move from their office to the meeting room without losing connection. Besides eliminating much of the need for extensive wiring and dedicated workstation, Wi Fi means the Internet is accessible anywhere users can pick up a signal, which allows for greater flexibility in office configurations. Wi Fi systems can also be much less expensive to set up, since the main cost is in the wiring to the main router. If an existing wired Internet network is already in place, adding Wi Fi capabilities is relatively simple, with no need to purchase a dedicated workstation. Wi Fi systems are also relatively inexpensive to operate and easy to use. For employees and authorized visitors to connect to Wi Fi does not present any technical difficulty. Depending on the router type simply enter the WEP or WAP key associated with your Wi Fi after double clicking the icon Wireless Network Connection . After a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. How Did Mao s Use Of Communism Affect China Mao had a very questionable rule over China. Beginning in 1934, he used communism as his guide and transformed China and its policies. From kicking out Chiang and the GMD, to causing the deaths of millions of innocent chinese citizens, he shifted how citizens in China live their everyday life. His death in 1976 ended his reign, but the horrors and atrocities still continued on, disrupting the personal lives of all of China. As the chinese government creates new reforms and policies in China from 1945 1991, all human rights were constantly being violated, resulting in mass amounts of death caused by Mao s poor leadership. The Hundred Flowers Campaign (1956 1957) and The Great Leap Forward (1958 1960) were two reforms that negatively affected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... China s position as a superpower was achieved through the great suffrage of all of its citizens. Many would argue that China doesn t deserve its position in the world, due to the millions of innocent deaths due to the violations of human rights. However, China s future is bright. For example, China changed its One Child Policy to a Two Child Policy in 2016, after about 35 years of loss of rights, family control, and murders. This improvement is one of many that China has taken into their hands to improve. The world should look at China s improvement, rather than its past, and acknowledge that China is trying to make China a better place than its previous China, no matter how hard that may ... • 8. Nano Crystaline Magnetic Materials Nano crystalline magnetic materials exhibit a variety of unusual and remarkable magnetic properties that are not observed in bulk system [1,2]. Magnetic spinel nano ferrites have attracted the interest of the researchers due to their importance in understanding the fundamentals of nano magnetism and their wide range of applications. They found potential applications in biomedicine such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), targeted drug delivery, magnetic separation [3 6] and high density data storage [7]. Nowadays, almost every part of the electronic device manufactured contains some ferromagnetic spinel ferrite materials. Loud speakers, antenna rods, deflection yokes, radar absorbers, humidity sensors, memory devices, recording heads, inductors and so many are frequency based on ferrites. Properties of ferrites are dependent upon various factors such as composition, method of preparation, substitution and doping of different cations, sintering temperature and duration, grain size and their distribution [8, 9]. The most common method to acquire improved electrical, optical and magnetic properties is the substitution of suitable impurity at the octahedral and tetrahedral sites. NiCuZn ferrites are excellent soft magnetic materials in high frequency device due to their low cost, high resistivity and low eddy current losses that have been extensively studied for multi layer chip inductor (MLCI) applications [10]. • 9. The Law of Nature Must Carry its Punitive Consequences... Something is rotten in the state of Denmark (1.4.98) but there are a variety of different infections that all contribute to one main conflict. Each character within the play has not only his or her own inner trials to fight against but also each of these issues form together to create the corruption in Denmark. Throughout the course of the play each character learns to deal with his or her internal battles and each conflict combines with others to create one singular, complex problem. It seems as though every issue ties together to form a tangled web leading ultimately to the demise of seven key characters. There isn t a single character within the play that understands the big picture or the consequences of their actions. Because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though Ophelia does love Hamlet she chooses her father s advice, Polonius, instead. Polonius is much like Gertrude because he is trying to help Hamlet, but also fell into Claudius scheming. Like any father figure he is concerned about the interactions between Hamlet and Ophelia which draws his attention away from the king and focuses only on Hamlet s faults. It seems as though Polonius is a race horse with blinders on; only seeing one point ahead and not the danger beside him. His simplistic thoughts allow him to be an easily persuaded character and throughout the play we see him trying to impress whoever is with him at the time; proving the point that he is also a great contender in the decay of Denmark. Polonius is killed by Hamlet which leads to a new factor in the already messy equation called Elsinore; this factor being Laertes. Laertes is driven by revenge of his father s death; a mighty cause with no understanding of the effects of his actions. During the rising action he is an insignificant character due to the fact that for a majority of the play he is at school in France; although, when news of his father s murder reaches him he charges forth with sword held high and no knowledge of the events leading up to the crime. While Hamlet lollygags and broods over the murder for much of the play, Laertes takes immediate action (Schmoop.com). The main difference between Hamlet and Laertes is that Hamlet ... • 10. Speech On Being Self Aware students. I provided office hours addressing any questions or concerns they may have or just general chit chat and this was a language school and every opportunity was an opportunity to speak English. Being Present 1. When I arrived to class I expected myself and my students to be fully present. If they were experiencing joy, sadness, a burden, I would have them share with the class before continuing on. This allowed my students to be focused on the now and not on what happened or will happen. An exercise that helped them accomplish this was to write something down that may be hindering them from being present and deposit it, without their name, into a classroom box. Temprarily, I was able to clear their mind and get them focused on what is happening now. See more at: http://www.educationworld.com/a_curr/profdev/profdev170_c.shtml#sthash.E0UtKEEc.dpuf Being Self Aware . Being self aware while teaching meant that I was aware of what I was saying, what I was thinking and how I was responding to the leaners and the instructional material. I was self ware of the decisions I made in and out of class. This is also what I encouraged in my students. Encouraging students to be self aware, they consciously paid more attention. The learner proactively viewed themselves from the position of their higher self, through their feelings thoughts, decisions, and actions. I expected no less of them than what I expected of myself. • 11. Similarities Between The Stranger And Waiting For Godot In Literature class, we read The Stranger by Albert Camus and Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett. The two stories are both similar and different in many ways. I m comparing and contrasting these stories because they both have existential themes, but the stories are presented very differently. In this essay, I ll be comparing and contrasting three similarities and three differences between The Stranger and Waiting for Godot . Repetition is shown in both pieces of literature. In The Stranger , Meursault s daily schedule is repeated. He goes to the same restaurant and orders the same meal every day, which is part of his routine. In Waiting for Godot , the character s dialogues are frequently repeated. Nothing to be done , is one example of repetition in dialogue. In the first half dozen pages of the play the phrase is repeated about four times. (Anonymous, schoolworkhelper.net). Additionally, the days in Waiting for Godot are probably also repeated. In both pieces of literature, the characters freedom is limited but the form of restriction is different. In the second part of The Stranger , Meursault s freedom is (physically) restricted by the law. He lost his freedom because he was ordered to go to jail. Meursault lost his freedom to live at the end of the story. On the other hand, Vladimir and Estragon s freedom is also limited because they were waiting for Godot. Estragon: Let s go. Vladimir: We can t. Estragon: Why not? Vladimir: We re waiting for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was pointless because Dolores had realized it was impossible to avoid another day. All she wanted to do was stay in her warm linen haven of a bed. But, She knew the moment she put her feet down, her whole body would feel the cold shock of the real world. The cold shock ripped through her, but she did not respond nor react, she could not let it win. Walking down the narrow maple floored corridor, it seemed to chill her bones every time she stepped. They were forced to leave their homes and into dehumanizing conditions. They received poor housing and medical treatment along with little to no education. While they were being relocated to these areas, they were losing their land and properties. In Ronald Reagan and Redress for Japanese American Internment, 1983 88 by Timothy Maga, East Coast redress activist and former internee, Grant Ujifusa, said We did not voluntarily leave our homes, our neighborhoods, and our work. • 17. Makeup Of Makeup Samuel Pepys did make note of the heavy makeup used by Nell Gwynne and her co worker Mrs. Knepp on stage, and how frightful he found it, so it is likely that even if makeup, in general, had an artificial look, stage makeup went a few steps further. Red cheeks connoted youthfulness and health, yellow cheeks age and illness. The eyes were outlined with black and shaded with colored pigment, blue being quite popular. Hair powder was used on the stage as well, and the color of it could be used either to compliment the actor or actress s look, or be chosen to suit the character they played. False facial hair was another means to change an actor s look. Makeup in the 17th and 18th century was quite simple, but with a very artificial look. The ideal, for both men and women, was a pale face, enhanced with cosmetics aimed to lighten the complexion or with white makeup. As with the lips, there is no real evidence that brows were blotted out and repainted higher up on the brow, though that may have happened in the theatre for effect. Patches were very popular throughout both the 17th and 18th century, most commonly round and black made out of taffeta, velvet or paper, but larger and more elaborate shapes were also in use (Samuel Pepys diary). Theatre goers also enjoyed seeing women in breeches roles in which a female character disguised herself as a man by wearing tight pants that exposed their legs. Thor is certainly, one of the more popular and important gods in Norse mythology. Thor is the son of the God of the gods, Odin, and his wife, Fyorgyn. You got to learn to stick to your own blood or you ain t going to have any blood to stick to you (Faulkner, William 1939). During the 1950 s Fanon found residency in France and wrote about the impact of colonialism subjugation of blacks. The focus was on the negative psychological effects brought out by the trauma of the events. Loss of personal identity, reactionary psychoses and defense mechanisms were all brought up related to the war involving the algerians. Freud believed the libido to be of crucial importance in personality, but he maintained that other impulses, particularly aggression, also play significant shaping roles (Lilienfeld, 2013). This compliments Fanon s findings within The Wretched Of The Earth. Rape, and by nature sexuality, were used as tools of aggression. Although linked in use as a means of torture, both for the captive and those surrounding the victim s, credit must be given to Freud s theory for correctly identifying sexuality and aggression as different traits. Unfortunately Trait theory, from Freud s perspective, still relies heavily on genetic predisposition. The divergence from sexuality and aggression comes in the form of survivability. It s a reactionary response to protect and survive that likely developed from our descendants. The largest flaw with the theory of aggression is that the id is claimed to operate on the pleasure principle and immediate gratification. This reconnects aggression and sexuality in circumstances such as Fanon described. There is gratification in domination by this assumption. Analysis Of Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass Reid Champlin Mrs. Stack AP English, Period 7 14 August 2015 In His Own Words: Analysis of The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass They say that one can never fully understand a situation until he/she is put into that scenario themselves. Too often, history is written by those who have only read and researched the issues, remaining distant and objective to get all the facts straight. While there is honor in this approach, one cannot experience the horror of war, the thrill of victory, or the reality of a situation if written from a third person perspective. No, history is best told by those who have participated in it: the soldiers who crawled through the muddy trenches, the revelers who celebrated the great national victory, or the people who did not witness history, but made it. Particularly on the issue of slavery, copious amounts of writing exist on both the pro slavery and anti slavery side from scholars, politicians, and citizens supporting their views, but very little exists from the perspective of slaves and former slaves. This in part is what makes The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an autobiography of former slave and abolitionist Frederick Douglass, so incredible and valuable to the American audience. This novel is timeless because teenagers will always face the choice of whether to be true to themselves, or to conform to what other s expect of them. In response to this theme, David Peck states, what this idea becomes is the concept of being true to oneself and standing up to the evil that one perceives in the world (Peck 2).
