2. Locations
Because my magazine, website and billboard are regional, I would say my photoshoot locations
are extremely important. Not all of my images need to be on scene however a number of them
do. This will allow me to cover regional areas and stories. Using photos of local places and
people will give me an advantage over national magazines because I will be showing more
appealing and possibly recognisable areas, places and people.
3. Studio
Although regional on scene photos are important, some studio images are equally important for
a professional look. I will use my local Bede College studio as a location as I am a student there. I
will have easy and unlimited access although to ensure I have permission I will email and ask
ahead. The studio will likely be used for more themed and professional looking images. The
space will allow me to prepare and set up my images.
4. Newcastle (Mainly Quayside & Near Areas)
Newcastle, my nearest regional city is host to a number of attractions and events. Because I live
in the north east Newcastle is considered the main area of attraction and will thus be one of the
areas I photograph. I feel that throughout the city one of the most popular areas is the quayside,
an attractive place with very recognisable landmarks and a number of other nearby attractions
such as museums, restaurants, cafés, art galleries and shopping centres. By using these
recognisable areas I will be able to attract regional readers in a way national magazines can not.
The attractions will also be relevant to my Lifestyle magazine, hosting a number of different
genres.
5. Sunderland
Again looking at regional areas, sunderland is my other nearest and popular city. The area will
allow me to repeat similar images to Newcastle but attract a further regional audience because
of the dramatic yet north-eastern location change. The area will also be easily accessible due to
my college being located here.
6. South Shields Beach
Another place growing with popularity in the north east is South Shields. The area has gone
under a dramatic rejuvenation, particularly the beach and fair areas. The images will make for
very interesting and creative images whilst sticking with the regional theme. As well as the
beach other nearby attractions include a year round theme park, a museum
7. Why Have I Chose These Destinations?
Looking at the locations I have chose, I can clearly see they are very well known regional areas.
The 3 locations (studio is also in Sunderland) will most likely be recognisable to a regional reader
and hopefully attract their attention with an area and article known to them. The locations will
allow me to take a variety of different photographs with people and without, focusing on the
well known regional attractions.
