Pre-Production
All Improvements that I have made
are in Red Text
Pre-production• I am making a travel magazine, in this project I will be making the cover of this magazine as well as
multiple double page spreads where I will be talking about a range of locations in the UK mainly
however I will have one article that talks about Ibiza. If I have spare time at the end of the project
then I will try to make the back of my magazine so that my product is a fully finished magazine.
• The purpose of making my magazine is to advertise locations in the UK that are cheap and easy for
people in the UK to get to and will show the audience appealing parts of the UK as well as giving them
cultural and important information on the location that they are reading about so that they can get a
better understanding of English culture and what the UK is like. However there will also be a section
of my magazine for people who can afford to go abroad and who want to see new and unique
locations that are different to the normal holiday experience.
• My magazine target audience is the higher working class as well as the working class and lower
working class so that my magazine appeals to a much larger audience. This is because my magazine
will talk about a range of different locations going from cheap locations in the UK that you can easily
travel to with the family to locations that are round the world and that are unique locations which
people rarely see and who have possibly never seen before but are much more expensive to go to and
see.
• Where will it appear/on what? (How will audience see it) My product will appear in a wide range of
locations but will mainly appear in locations such as hotels and the internet where my product will
have its own website. It will mainly appear in these locations because if my product is in a hotel it is
more likely to grab the attention of someone who likes traveling then if it was sold in a supermarket.

• Photo’s-I have chosen to use the images in my magazine either for backgrounds or for other uses such as being
other images round the page to give the audience more to look at visually so that the amount of information I
have in my articles isn’t as overwhelming and to give something for my audience to compare to what I’m saying.
For example I will be talking about the Cow Shed Restaurant in my magazine so I have added an image of the
restaurant so that my audience can see what I am talking about by looking at the image without having to use
their own imagination or the internet to get an image of what the restaurant looks like. I have also chosen these
images because they all have a bright or calming color tone to them. The bright color tones makes my magazine
more appealing and more tempting to buy because bright vibrant colors often give off a positive feeling making
the person looking at the colors joyful and have a happy feeling and because my magazine is a travel magazine
people are looking for places that are bright, sunny and where they can relax and have fun meaning if I use a
dark, gloomy photo my magazine will look unappealing to a large amount of my audience. I have also chosen to
take shots in different areas of England to add a larger variety to my magazine and to make sure that my
magazine appeals to everyone in my target audience and so that if one of the places I talk about isn't appealing
to someone they always have another location that they can look at and see if they like that one more instead. I
have also tried to stick to my theme of entry way shots to make my shots look more interesting and appealing.
(Images on slide 3) I have done this on image 1 by taking a picture from the side of the road making it look like
the road comes through my picture, I have done this on image 2 by making it look like the stones are coming out
of the camera and forwards and then have done it on image 4 by taking a picture close to the wall of the
building. I have also chosen to use photos of the locations that I will be talking about rather then random
locations that are similar to the topic so that my audience can visually see the locations that I am talking about
instead of using a picture of a place that is completely different, which would give false advertising to my target
audience.
Pre-production: Style Sheet
• Text- For my magazine I will be using a range of fonts and sizes for my text. My masthead will be size 30pt and
will be in the font Shree Devanagari 714, the cover lines will also be in this font however they will be 20pt so
that the cover lines don’t bring attention away from the masthead and so that the first thing my audience sees
when they look at my magazine is the masthead. However in some magazines the cover lines are in a larger font
then the masthead because these magazines use an interesting topic and article to get their audiences attention
instead of using the name of their company so depending on how interesting and appealing my topics are I
could do that instead. The information throughout my magazine will be in font size 12pt and will be in the
Orator Std font so that my text sticks to the modern theme of my magazine and doesn’t make my magazine
unappealing because of inconsistency but will still be readable and because the font is this size it will allow me
to fit much more information onto my double page spreads so that my audience can get all the information that
they need to visit these locations, this will make people more likely to go to these locations and increase the
popularity of my product because from my research I found out that a lot of my target audience tends not to go
to some places purely because they don’t have enough information on what its like and enough of the
information that they need to fee comfortable with going there.
Pre-production: Article information Ibiza
• The hippy markets- the hippy market is just before San Carlos village and is one of the most
popular attractions in Ibiza and is a must go to if you go to Ibiza. This market first started off
as a music venue hosting artists like the Rolling stones. It is now a market where people from
all round the island sell their crafts ranging from blankets and clothes to trinkets and jewelry
that makes you feel like part of the islands community. In the summer the market gets
extremely busy and hot so I would recommend going at night when there is less people and
it isn’t as hot, I personally feel like it is better at night because not only is it not as hot or busy
but you are able to have conversations with the lovely locals who have told me about many
unique and barely known locations that are breathtaking such as the Ses Roques Restaurant
that is on the Cliffside to the north of Ibiza looking over the other close islands. At night the
market also has an amazing atmosphere where you can hear music playing and people
laughing in the distance while looking around at items which are one of a kind.
• Mountain bike tours ,cliff diving, sunsets in relatively unknown areas, experimental beach
and cala martina (pg199)
• Hostal Talamanca, Hotel Gabri, tapa restaurants, Motorent Migjorn (car hire)-
• Es Vedra Island
Pre-production: Article Information UK York
Information about Clifford's tower-
• tickets to go into Clifford's tower cost £4 per person.
• Clifford's tower was first built in 1068-9 when William the Conqueror built two motte and baily castles in
York (one being Clifford's tower) one of the main facts people know about Clifford’s tower is the Jewish
massacre where the York Jewish community took refuge in the tower to escape an angry mob but unable
to escape the tower (currently wooden at the time) was burnt down and all remaining Jewish survivors
are killed however the tower is later re-built in stone and then used in 1644 by the Royalists garrison to
defend York in the Civil War siege.
Information on The Minster-
• The minster is one of the greatest and best kept cathedrals in the world, is one of the largest Gothic
structures in northern Europe, if you pay you can visit the “undercroft” which teaches the visitors on
how the building was constructed and what role the minster has played in England's wars and if you pay
more you are able to go up the minster tower and go to the lookout to get a great view of the whole city.
Tickets to see the chapter house and undercroft cost £10 for an adult with up to 4 children for free and
£9 for seniors and students however for the tower trip it costs £15 for an adult, £14 for seniors and
students and £5 for children from 8 to 16.
Pre-production: Article Information UK Fraisthorpe Beach
Events-Fraisthorpe beach has a range of signature events year round making it popular and different to
other beaches. These events mostly consist of activities with your pets, for example I recently went on the
whippet walk in march when the sun was high, bright and where there was hundreds of whippets coming
from all round the country to get together and relax in the sun while their dogs enjoy the sun with their own
friends. The environment is incredible, people laughing, the sound of peoples pets racing up and down and
splashing in the soothing water to protect them from the heat of the sun, while feeling the gentle sea breeze
is something that is truly unforgettable. This event occurs randomly but will be on the Fraisthorpe beach
website if you want to know when it takes place. Waves of Waste Beach Clean at Fraisthorpe (3 Aug)
Saturday, 3 August 2019, 13:00.
Cow Shed Tea House-Fraisthorpe is also one of the most popular beaches near Bridlington because of the
tea house that is there. The restaurant opens at 9:30am and closes at 4pm. The Cow Shed has a range of
different food as well to keep you warm when its chilly or to fill you up before you go out to get your tan.
Breakfast starts at 9:30am until 11:30am and lunch is served at 11:30am until 3:30pm and is open every day
except Wednesday’s so you can come at any time of day and you will still be able to enjoy a bite to eat with
your family.
Pre-production: Audience
Overall when making my product I will make sure that my magazine targets the higher class because the
majority of topics that I will be talking about in my magazine will be expensive and targeted at people who
can afford to spend a lot of money when they go abroad or stay in England. In my magazine I have chosen to
include a large amount of information because my target audience wants to make sure they’re getting their
moneys worth, because of this I will make sure that I not only have a large amount of information but I will
also make sure to use a modern style and professional layout that is similar to magazines such as the ”Conde
Nast Traveler” which is very well known in the travel industry and is used by people in the AB Socio-
economic status meaning these people are often more highly educated and have a much higher income
compared to the regular household. I am also going to use color schemes that are similar to Conde Nast
Traveler but that also match the color scheme of the picture on my background to help make my product
more appealing to this audience and to possibly increase their chances of seeing my product when its on the
self surrounded by a range of other different products. However in 2001 – 2011 there was a survey to find
out the percentage of each category in the UK 26.05% was DE, 20.94% was C2, 30.84% was C1 and finally
22.17 was my target audience AB even though these results may be irrelevant now they still show that my
target audience is one of the smallest target audiences being just above C2 this could make it harder to sell a
product to this target audience because I will have to use a much larger amount of advertising to make sure
that the few amount of people in this target audience actually see it.

Images- I have chosen to use these images because
they are images of the locations that I will be
talking about and are similar to the type of shots
that I want to use in my magazine making them a
good example of what I want to make. I think these
images are also better suited for my audience
because they are all quite vibrant, this makes the
image more positive and makes the entire double
page spread much more appealing to my audience
because of the happy feeling that the images give
off.
Layout- I have chosen to layout my work like this so that I can fit a large amount of information into my work, this is
good because my target audience prefers to have a larger amount of information then images in their magazine,
this will help to make my magazine more appealing to my target audience and will hopefully increase the chances of
them buying it. This layout is also clear and tidy helping to make my magazine to seem more professional and
making my product better quality so that my products appeals more to my target audience.
Font- I have chosen to use this font because this font matches the modern theme that I want to do for my actual
magazine, this font is also appealing to my to my target audience because it’s clear to read and the font is more
visually appealing because it isn’t just a basic font.

Image- I have chosen to use this image because it is similar
to the image that I will be using for my Ibiza article and
advertisement, this means that I will have a good idea of if
this type of image looks appealing in my magazine. I have
also chosen to use an image like this so that the reader
knows that the article will be about flying abroad before
they even read any of the information on the page.
Layout- I have chosen to use this layout because my target audience prefers to have a larger text to picture ratio,
this means that having more information in my product will make my product more appealing to my target
audience. However I feel like I should have more smaller titles throughout my product so that my audience can
easily find the topic that they want to talk about. This will also help to make my magazine clearer and more
appealing to my target audience.
Font- I have chosen to use these fonts in my magazine because they not only match the theme of my magazine
but It also helps to make my magazine look more appealing and tidier. An existing magazine called the national
geographic is what I have based my magazine off and has also got a similar font and has a similar target audience
to my product, this means that if I use a different font that doesn't match the topics that I’m talking about then
my magazine might be more unappealing to my target audience.

Flat plan-
Location Recce for photographs-
I will not need to recce any of my locations because I have already got all the shots that I need for my magazine and if I
need to get anymore shots I know what locations I need to go and what times are the best times to get the shots that I
would need. The locations where I will be taking my shots are always open as well making it easier to get the shots that I
need whenever I need them. However for locations such as Fraisthorpe If I want to get more shots I will need to know
what time the tides come in so that I am able to get the shots I need.
Budget- My budget will mainly be the cost of getting into the locations which I
need to go to, to get my shots. For example to get into Fraisthorpe I need to pay
£3, for Clifford’s tower I need to pay £4, for the Minster I need to pay £10 but for
my countryside shots I won’t have to pay anything. I will also not have to pay for
travel or anything else when making my product so the highest amount of
money I will need to spend will be £17.
Resources
Equipment/ Props/
Costume needed
Locations needed
Camera/camera equipment e.g. sim card,
battery, etc.
Will use this equipment at Fraisthorpe, in
York at the minster and Clifford's tower
and will use it at random places in the
English countryside.
Photoshop and InDesign. I can only access this equipment at college.
Power Point. Can access this at college and at home so I
will be able to work at any time.
Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be
avoided?
The tide at Fraisthorpe may come in when I’m still
on the beach.
Keep track of the time and before I go look at the
times of when the tide comes in.
At Fraisthorpe I will also be taking photos on
the Cliffside where I could possibly fall.
Make sure that someone else is with me and
make sure that the ground is safe to walk on
before hand.
Might strain my eyes from working on the
computer for too long.
Will make sure that I take breaks every couple
hours while doing my work.
Might get back pain or neck pain if I’m looking
down at my computer screen for too long.
Make sure that my computer screen is level with
my head so that I don’t need to look down.
The minster is an old building so it could be
dangerous to walk around.
York Minster is checked frequently and has risk
assessments frequently as well to make sure the
Minster is safe for tourists.
Contingency Planning
Potential Issue Solution
Might lose work that I have done. Save my work in many different places, such as
my memory stick, computer at college and my
computer at home.
The shots that I take I might not like. Take a much larger amount of shots of a range
of different things so there is at least one that I
like for my product.
The layout for my magazine might not work
with the amount of information that I’m putting
in my magazine.
For my planning make sure that I have a range
of different layouts in case one doesn’t work
My camera could possibly break or not be able
to get the shots that I need.
I am able to get a much better camera from
college but I need to give 24hours notice before
I can use it.
Production Schedule
Day/Lesson Tasks
First day (out of lesson) Will be collecting information that I need for my cover and
double page spread. Information like what volume of magazine
this is that I’m making, where the picture on the background has
been taken etc.
Second day (in lesson) I will start the production of my magazine cover by first putting my
background image in and changing it to make it better suit my target
audience and make it more appealing by altering the contrast,
brightness etc as well as putting all the information on my cover that
is needed such as the title, slogans and other peace's of information
to grab the audiences attention.
Third day (in lesson) Will have completed my magazine cover and will have started on my
UK double page spread (beach article/countryside article) I will start
off by editing the background picture like I did to the cover to make
the picture more visually appealing and possibly making it easier to
read text on the page. For example if both the text and the
background is white I will need to change the background.
Fourth day (in lesson) I will have finished the design of my double page spread and will be
putting information on my double page spread as well as starting the
production of my next double page spread (York article and
advertisement)
Fifth day (in lesson) I will be finishing my double page spread and will start working
on my final article about Ibiza. This will also be another A3 sized
page, because of this I will need a different type of photo to the
ones that I have used so that the picture suits the size of the
page and to show the audience that it is an advertisement from
a different company and not mine.
Extra planning
Why I have made an extra planning page
• I have made parts of my product faster then I originally thought I might. For example I thought that
it would take all four weeks to make a cover, two double page spreads and one A3 page with an
advertisement. However in two weeks I have made two double page spreads, an A3 page article and
nearly finished my cover, because I have a lot more spare time then I thought I want to make
another double page spread about York and possibly if I have time make an A3 page with an
advertisement that is related to the topics that I have talked about.
Advertisement's I could talk about
• York dungeons
• Ibiza festival
• Plane company promotion e.g. Jet 2
For my Ibiza article I had collected a lot more information then I actually needed, this means that I have
lots of spare information to make an advertisement out of. I have also collected the same amount of
information on York as I did for my Ibiza article, this means that I will have plenty of information already
to fill my double page spread and talk about all the information that my audience needs. This will save
me a lot of time and will mean that I have even more time to work on the actual production part of my
project rather then spending most my time trying to get the information that I need. This will possibly
help to make my final product nicer overall because of the amount of time I will have spare to look over
my work and improve it in any way I can to make sure that it is the best quality it can be.

4. pre production(1)

  • 1. Pre-Production All Improvements that I have made are in Red Text
  • 2. Pre-production• I am making a travel magazine, in this project I will be making the cover of this magazine as well as multiple double page spreads where I will be talking about a range of locations in the UK mainly however I will have one article that talks about Ibiza. If I have spare time at the end of the project then I will try to make the back of my magazine so that my product is a fully finished magazine. • The purpose of making my magazine is to advertise locations in the UK that are cheap and easy for people in the UK to get to and will show the audience appealing parts of the UK as well as giving them cultural and important information on the location that they are reading about so that they can get a better understanding of English culture and what the UK is like. However there will also be a section of my magazine for people who can afford to go abroad and who want to see new and unique locations that are different to the normal holiday experience. • My magazine target audience is the higher working class as well as the working class and lower working class so that my magazine appeals to a much larger audience. This is because my magazine will talk about a range of different locations going from cheap locations in the UK that you can easily travel to with the family to locations that are round the world and that are unique locations which people rarely see and who have possibly never seen before but are much more expensive to go to and see. • Where will it appear/on what? (How will audience see it) My product will appear in a wide range of locations but will mainly appear in locations such as hotels and the internet where my product will have its own website. It will mainly appear in these locations because if my product is in a hotel it is more likely to grab the attention of someone who likes traveling then if it was sold in a supermarket. Reflection:
  • 3. Pre-production: Style Sheet My countryside article color scheme My coastline article color scheme My coastline restaurant article color scheme My countryside article color scheme 1. 3. 2. 4.
  • 4. Pre-production: Style Sheet • Photo’s-I have chosen to use the images in my magazine either for backgrounds or for other uses such as being other images round the page to give the audience more to look at visually so that the amount of information I have in my articles isn’t as overwhelming and to give something for my audience to compare to what I’m saying. For example I will be talking about the Cow Shed Restaurant in my magazine so I have added an image of the restaurant so that my audience can see what I am talking about by looking at the image without having to use their own imagination or the internet to get an image of what the restaurant looks like. I have also chosen these images because they all have a bright or calming color tone to them. The bright color tones makes my magazine more appealing and more tempting to buy because bright vibrant colors often give off a positive feeling making the person looking at the colors joyful and have a happy feeling and because my magazine is a travel magazine people are looking for places that are bright, sunny and where they can relax and have fun meaning if I use a dark, gloomy photo my magazine will look unappealing to a large amount of my audience. I have also chosen to take shots in different areas of England to add a larger variety to my magazine and to make sure that my magazine appeals to everyone in my target audience and so that if one of the places I talk about isn't appealing to someone they always have another location that they can look at and see if they like that one more instead. I have also tried to stick to my theme of entry way shots to make my shots look more interesting and appealing. (Images on slide 3) I have done this on image 1 by taking a picture from the side of the road making it look like the road comes through my picture, I have done this on image 2 by making it look like the stones are coming out of the camera and forwards and then have done it on image 4 by taking a picture close to the wall of the building. I have also chosen to use photos of the locations that I will be talking about rather then random locations that are similar to the topic so that my audience can visually see the locations that I am talking about instead of using a picture of a place that is completely different, which would give false advertising to my target audience.
  • 5. Pre-production: Style Sheet • Text- For my magazine I will be using a range of fonts and sizes for my text. My masthead will be size 30pt and will be in the font Shree Devanagari 714, the cover lines will also be in this font however they will be 20pt so that the cover lines don’t bring attention away from the masthead and so that the first thing my audience sees when they look at my magazine is the masthead. However in some magazines the cover lines are in a larger font then the masthead because these magazines use an interesting topic and article to get their audiences attention instead of using the name of their company so depending on how interesting and appealing my topics are I could do that instead. The information throughout my magazine will be in font size 12pt and will be in the Orator Std font so that my text sticks to the modern theme of my magazine and doesn’t make my magazine unappealing because of inconsistency but will still be readable and because the font is this size it will allow me to fit much more information onto my double page spreads so that my audience can get all the information that they need to visit these locations, this will make people more likely to go to these locations and increase the popularity of my product because from my research I found out that a lot of my target audience tends not to go to some places purely because they don’t have enough information on what its like and enough of the information that they need to fee comfortable with going there.
  • 6. Pre-production: Article information Ibiza • The hippy markets- the hippy market is just before San Carlos village and is one of the most popular attractions in Ibiza and is a must go to if you go to Ibiza. This market first started off as a music venue hosting artists like the Rolling stones. It is now a market where people from all round the island sell their crafts ranging from blankets and clothes to trinkets and jewelry that makes you feel like part of the islands community. In the summer the market gets extremely busy and hot so I would recommend going at night when there is less people and it isn’t as hot, I personally feel like it is better at night because not only is it not as hot or busy but you are able to have conversations with the lovely locals who have told me about many unique and barely known locations that are breathtaking such as the Ses Roques Restaurant that is on the Cliffside to the north of Ibiza looking over the other close islands. At night the market also has an amazing atmosphere where you can hear music playing and people laughing in the distance while looking around at items which are one of a kind. • Mountain bike tours ,cliff diving, sunsets in relatively unknown areas, experimental beach and cala martina (pg199) • Hostal Talamanca, Hotel Gabri, tapa restaurants, Motorent Migjorn (car hire)- • Es Vedra Island
  • 7. Pre-production: Article Information UK York Information about Clifford's tower- • tickets to go into Clifford's tower cost £4 per person. • Clifford's tower was first built in 1068-9 when William the Conqueror built two motte and baily castles in York (one being Clifford's tower) one of the main facts people know about Clifford’s tower is the Jewish massacre where the York Jewish community took refuge in the tower to escape an angry mob but unable to escape the tower (currently wooden at the time) was burnt down and all remaining Jewish survivors are killed however the tower is later re-built in stone and then used in 1644 by the Royalists garrison to defend York in the Civil War siege. Information on The Minster- • The minster is one of the greatest and best kept cathedrals in the world, is one of the largest Gothic structures in northern Europe, if you pay you can visit the “undercroft” which teaches the visitors on how the building was constructed and what role the minster has played in England's wars and if you pay more you are able to go up the minster tower and go to the lookout to get a great view of the whole city. Tickets to see the chapter house and undercroft cost £10 for an adult with up to 4 children for free and £9 for seniors and students however for the tower trip it costs £15 for an adult, £14 for seniors and students and £5 for children from 8 to 16.
  • 8. Pre-production: Article Information UK Fraisthorpe Beach Events-Fraisthorpe beach has a range of signature events year round making it popular and different to other beaches. These events mostly consist of activities with your pets, for example I recently went on the whippet walk in march when the sun was high, bright and where there was hundreds of whippets coming from all round the country to get together and relax in the sun while their dogs enjoy the sun with their own friends. The environment is incredible, people laughing, the sound of peoples pets racing up and down and splashing in the soothing water to protect them from the heat of the sun, while feeling the gentle sea breeze is something that is truly unforgettable. This event occurs randomly but will be on the Fraisthorpe beach website if you want to know when it takes place. Waves of Waste Beach Clean at Fraisthorpe (3 Aug) Saturday, 3 August 2019, 13:00. Cow Shed Tea House-Fraisthorpe is also one of the most popular beaches near Bridlington because of the tea house that is there. The restaurant opens at 9:30am and closes at 4pm. The Cow Shed has a range of different food as well to keep you warm when its chilly or to fill you up before you go out to get your tan. Breakfast starts at 9:30am until 11:30am and lunch is served at 11:30am until 3:30pm and is open every day except Wednesday’s so you can come at any time of day and you will still be able to enjoy a bite to eat with your family.
  • 9. Pre-production: Audience Overall when making my product I will make sure that my magazine targets the higher class because the majority of topics that I will be talking about in my magazine will be expensive and targeted at people who can afford to spend a lot of money when they go abroad or stay in England. In my magazine I have chosen to include a large amount of information because my target audience wants to make sure they’re getting their moneys worth, because of this I will make sure that I not only have a large amount of information but I will also make sure to use a modern style and professional layout that is similar to magazines such as the ”Conde Nast Traveler” which is very well known in the travel industry and is used by people in the AB Socio- economic status meaning these people are often more highly educated and have a much higher income compared to the regular household. I am also going to use color schemes that are similar to Conde Nast Traveler but that also match the color scheme of the picture on my background to help make my product more appealing to this audience and to possibly increase their chances of seeing my product when its on the self surrounded by a range of other different products. However in 2001 – 2011 there was a survey to find out the percentage of each category in the UK 26.05% was DE, 20.94% was C2, 30.84% was C1 and finally 22.17 was my target audience AB even though these results may be irrelevant now they still show that my target audience is one of the smallest target audiences being just above C2 this could make it harder to sell a product to this target audience because I will have to use a much larger amount of advertising to make sure that the few amount of people in this target audience actually see it.

  • 14. Images- I have chosen to use these images because they are images of the locations that I will be talking about and are similar to the type of shots that I want to use in my magazine making them a good example of what I want to make. I think these images are also better suited for my audience because they are all quite vibrant, this makes the image more positive and makes the entire double page spread much more appealing to my audience because of the happy feeling that the images give off. Layout- I have chosen to layout my work like this so that I can fit a large amount of information into my work, this is good because my target audience prefers to have a larger amount of information then images in their magazine, this will help to make my magazine more appealing to my target audience and will hopefully increase the chances of them buying it. This layout is also clear and tidy helping to make my magazine to seem more professional and making my product better quality so that my products appeals more to my target audience. Font- I have chosen to use this font because this font matches the modern theme that I want to do for my actual magazine, this font is also appealing to my to my target audience because it’s clear to read and the font is more visually appealing because it isn’t just a basic font.

  • 16. Image- I have chosen to use this image because it is similar to the image that I will be using for my Ibiza article and advertisement, this means that I will have a good idea of if this type of image looks appealing in my magazine. I have also chosen to use an image like this so that the reader knows that the article will be about flying abroad before they even read any of the information on the page. Layout- I have chosen to use this layout because my target audience prefers to have a larger text to picture ratio, this means that having more information in my product will make my product more appealing to my target audience. However I feel like I should have more smaller titles throughout my product so that my audience can easily find the topic that they want to talk about. This will also help to make my magazine clearer and more appealing to my target audience. Font- I have chosen to use these fonts in my magazine because they not only match the theme of my magazine but It also helps to make my magazine look more appealing and tidier. An existing magazine called the national geographic is what I have based my magazine off and has also got a similar font and has a similar target audience to my product, this means that if I use a different font that doesn't match the topics that I’m talking about then my magazine might be more unappealing to my target audience.
  • 17. Pre-production: Flat Plan and Location Recce for photographs Cover Beach article Country side article York article Ibiza article Flat plan- Location Recce for photographs- I will not need to recce any of my locations because I have already got all the shots that I need for my magazine and if I need to get anymore shots I know what locations I need to go and what times are the best times to get the shots that I would need. The locations where I will be taking my shots are always open as well making it easier to get the shots that I need whenever I need them. However for locations such as Fraisthorpe If I want to get more shots I will need to know what time the tides come in so that I am able to get the shots I need. Budget- My budget will mainly be the cost of getting into the locations which I need to go to, to get my shots. For example to get into Fraisthorpe I need to pay £3, for Clifford’s tower I need to pay £4, for the Minster I need to pay £10 but for my countryside shots I won’t have to pay anything. I will also not have to pay for travel or anything else when making my product so the highest amount of money I will need to spend will be £17.
  • 18. Resources Equipment/ Props/ Costume needed Locations needed Camera/camera equipment e.g. sim card, battery, etc. Will use this equipment at Fraisthorpe, in York at the minster and Clifford's tower and will use it at random places in the English countryside. Photoshop and InDesign. I can only access this equipment at college. Power Point. Can access this at college and at home so I will be able to work at any time.
  • 19. Health and Safety Potential Issue How will the issue be avoided? The tide at Fraisthorpe may come in when I’m still on the beach. Keep track of the time and before I go look at the times of when the tide comes in. At Fraisthorpe I will also be taking photos on the Cliffside where I could possibly fall. Make sure that someone else is with me and make sure that the ground is safe to walk on before hand. Might strain my eyes from working on the computer for too long. Will make sure that I take breaks every couple hours while doing my work. Might get back pain or neck pain if I’m looking down at my computer screen for too long. Make sure that my computer screen is level with my head so that I don’t need to look down. The minster is an old building so it could be dangerous to walk around. York Minster is checked frequently and has risk assessments frequently as well to make sure the Minster is safe for tourists.
  • 20. Contingency Planning Potential Issue Solution Might lose work that I have done. Save my work in many different places, such as my memory stick, computer at college and my computer at home. The shots that I take I might not like. Take a much larger amount of shots of a range of different things so there is at least one that I like for my product. The layout for my magazine might not work with the amount of information that I’m putting in my magazine. For my planning make sure that I have a range of different layouts in case one doesn’t work My camera could possibly break or not be able to get the shots that I need. I am able to get a much better camera from college but I need to give 24hours notice before I can use it.
  • 21. Production Schedule Day/Lesson Tasks First day (out of lesson) Will be collecting information that I need for my cover and double page spread. Information like what volume of magazine this is that I’m making, where the picture on the background has been taken etc. Second day (in lesson) I will start the production of my magazine cover by first putting my background image in and changing it to make it better suit my target audience and make it more appealing by altering the contrast, brightness etc as well as putting all the information on my cover that is needed such as the title, slogans and other peace's of information to grab the audiences attention. Third day (in lesson) Will have completed my magazine cover and will have started on my UK double page spread (beach article/countryside article) I will start off by editing the background picture like I did to the cover to make the picture more visually appealing and possibly making it easier to read text on the page. For example if both the text and the background is white I will need to change the background. Fourth day (in lesson) I will have finished the design of my double page spread and will be putting information on my double page spread as well as starting the production of my next double page spread (York article and advertisement) Fifth day (in lesson) I will be finishing my double page spread and will start working on my final article about Ibiza. This will also be another A3 sized page, because of this I will need a different type of photo to the ones that I have used so that the picture suits the size of the page and to show the audience that it is an advertisement from a different company and not mine.
  • 22. Extra planning Why I have made an extra planning page • I have made parts of my product faster then I originally thought I might. For example I thought that it would take all four weeks to make a cover, two double page spreads and one A3 page with an advertisement. However in two weeks I have made two double page spreads, an A3 page article and nearly finished my cover, because I have a lot more spare time then I thought I want to make another double page spread about York and possibly if I have time make an A3 page with an advertisement that is related to the topics that I have talked about. Advertisement's I could talk about • York dungeons • Ibiza festival • Plane company promotion e.g. Jet 2 For my Ibiza article I had collected a lot more information then I actually needed, this means that I have lots of spare information to make an advertisement out of. I have also collected the same amount of information on York as I did for my Ibiza article, this means that I will have plenty of information already to fill my double page spread and talk about all the information that my audience needs. This will save me a lot of time and will mean that I have even more time to work on the actual production part of my project rather then spending most my time trying to get the information that I need. This will possibly help to make my final product nicer overall because of the amount of time I will have spare to look over my work and improve it in any way I can to make sure that it is the best quality it can be.
