Task 3 landscape photo shoot proposal form
1. Unit 57: Photography and Photographic Practise
Project Proposal
(P2, P3, M2, M3, D2, D3)
Candidate
name:
Theme: Architectural Exploration of Salford Quays
Predicted final outcome
I will be conducting a photo shoot at Salford Quays capturing a number of
photographs including urban landscapes of Media City and the Lowry, with
the intentions of promoting Manchester to tourists. I will take minimum of 50
photographs and as a result my final outcome will consist of the 10 best
photographs.
Reasons for selection of theme (including inspiration from the work of others)
Throughout my images I will be representing Manchester as a busy city
which is full of life. I will take a number of images, some during the day and
some during the night, therefore not only promoting the things to do in
Manchester during the day but also the nightlife.
Alex Filatov
Alex Filatov is a self taught fine art photographer, currently working in New
York and his images have been featured in Magazines worldwide.
I will be taking inspiration from Alex Filatov's city photographs, by using the
water reflection technique within the images I take during the night time,
not only because I think these photographs look stunning, but also because
I feel that the cluttered lights from the building shining onto the water
creates a lively representation of the cities night life.
2. Barry Ocarrol
Another Photographer who I like is Barry O Carrol who is a landscape
photographer based in Dublin, she believes that it is the quality of light
available that results in stunning photos, and therefore captures images
during sunset, sunrise or the blue hour. Therefore during my photo shoot I will
capture some images during sunset in order to try and capture various
warm tones in the sky.
David Rhodes
I also like the work of David Rhodes, due to the angles he chooses to take
his photographs and that he mixes vibrant colours with neutral colours, I feel
that this contrast looks pleasing to the eye and as a result i would like to
interpret this into my own work.
3. The photo imaging equipment and medium that will be used and why
The camera that i will be using to capture these images will be the Nikon
D3100, which is an entry level digital SLR camera. It is suitable for most
lighting conditions due to the sensitivity range of 100 - 3,200 and
expandable to 12,800. It features a manual mode setting which i will be
using throughout the photo shoot, enabling me to change the shutter
speed and aperture when necessary.
Techniques that will be used and how they will help convey the visual
message
In order to anchor the fact that i am hoping to promote Manchester by
representing it as a busy city which is full of life, I will be capturing a number
of photographs with a slow shutter speed, therefore blurring any motion
within it. One of the photographs I am hoping to achieve is an image of the
Lowry outlet during the day when it is expected to be busy, I will use a slow
shutter speed in order to blur the motion of the people walking in front of
the outlet, in contrast to the Lowry outlet which will be clear.
I will also vary the depth of field throughout the photo shoot, with some
images being large depth of field where the majority of the image will be in
focus, in contrast to other images which will be shallow depth of field where
a specific thing will be in focus and the remainder of the image will be
blurred. In order to do this i will have to change the shutter speed along with
the aperture setting.
Salford Quays Salford Quays is within Salford, Greater Manchester and was
previously the site of Manchester Docks before becoming
one of the first and largest urban regeneration projects in
the Uk. Salford Quays is now home to a number of
attractions including Media City which includes Granada
and BBC, the Lowry outlet and theatre, the imperial war
museum and much more. Therefore I feel this would be the
perfect place to conduct a photo shoot to promote
Manchester.
