1. Slow cut editing
In this shot it is an over the shoulder shot from the
mother to the daughter, from this we see a bond
between mother and daughter. This shot lasts for
about a second. This cut will be used to show a
conversation that is happening. This goes to the next
cut scene.
2. CGI
In this scene Paul is about to be killed by a copper pipe but he
doesn’t try to avoid it properly just brace himself for it. The
pipes are very obviously made with CGI and are partly colorless
and look completely fake. They used CGI because they wont
actually shoot poles at him but if they use CGI they can make it
look like they did if they replace him for a dummy.
3. Pacing fast/slow
In the descent they use slow camera shots
where it will be around 20 different shots in 15
seconds but with fast pacing there will be
around 7 different shots in 3 second this makes
us know that what just happened was serious
and will affect the story.
Overall the slow shots are used to drag the
audience into the film and fast shots are used to
shock and make the audience jump up with fear.
4. Transitions
The only transition in the Descent was the fade
to black at the end to signal that Sarah will
endure her fate and die but it also signals the
end of a movie most of the time.
