Wrong turn - Recce Report
1. Recce Report
I am going to need multiple locations for my five-minute film sequence
as I have several short scenes, each with a different location. This relates
back to my essay as I have used locations that will allow me to show the
stereotype of teenagers within my film. Not only does the use of several
locations allow me to express a range of themes throughout the film, it
also allow me to show them in a unique and creative way.

2. Alleyway – Bush Close
• Bush close is reasonably close, giving me relatively easy access to this
particular location. I've chosen his location as I am able to film here without
permission easily where as I’ve had to ask for permission at other locations. I
think that this location fits particularly well with the script and the genre of
the film as the film is a crime drama and the location is quiet and secluded.
With the use of mise—en-scene, I will be able to make the location even
more suitable for my script. Once both Trevor and Amir are in costume (dark
clothing, hoody), the location will look extremely realistic. Also, there is
minimal civilian activity in this alleyway as well as it being a good size which
means I can film without any interruptions or disturbance. There is also no
health and safety hazard present. I will be filming the scene of Trevor and
Amir’s conversation at this location. The cinematography I will be using for
this scene will mostly be medium and close up shots to allow the audience to
engage with the characters as well as establish the characters surrounding as
it is the first scene in the film. The cinematography relates to the types of
shots used in the film I have studied, Kidulthood.
3. Car Park - Netley Road
• Like Bush Close, Netley Road is also reasonably close to me and therefore it
makes the filming process much easier for me and also I do not need to get
permission to film here as it s a public area. The car park/front yard in my
opinion is a perfect location as it meets the codes and conventions of a crime
drama. The location is fairly secluded and is quiet and most importantly it has
a staircase. This is where Michael will come out from before he gets into a
fight with Amir and it sets the scene up perfectly as it helps build up
suspense due to how quiet the setting is. The setting is also perfect for when
Michael dies as the loneliness of the location helps build the emotions within
the audience. Also as the area is fairly big, it gives me the opportunity to
experiment with shots and angles as I am able to film a variety of shots here.
Moreover there are no health and safety hazard present here. The
cinematography I’ll be using for in this will mostly consist of close ups and
some long shots to set the scene. I will also be filming the fight scene with
the camera hand held and not still as I believe this will have the audience
intrigued and involved in the film.
4. Bedroom Scene
• For the scene that I will be filming indoors, I hope to use the guest
room in my house. Not only it is easily accessible for me, the
decoration and the size of the room is very convenient for how I
wanted the room to look. The room has a very basic design, all the
walls and ceiling are beige along with brown floorboard and a white
door, with minimal furniture. I will dress the set to make it as
realistic as possible. I went for a neutral look for the bedroom as in
my opinion this will add emphasis to how bleak Amir is feeling when
he is in the room. Props that I plan on using in this room are only the
bed and the computer unit, to make it look like a teenagers room.
The emptiness of the room will reflect how lonely Amir has become.
I also plan on using mise-en-scene to build on the vibe that the
appearance of the room gives. I plan on using red bed and duvet
cover as it represents danger. This build on how Amir is now a
murderer but also is at risk of being murdered himself. The only
disadvantage of this room is that due to its size, I will be limited with
my options for shots.
5. Bathroom Scene
• The bathroom scene will also be convenient for me to film as it is also
located in my house. The bathroom is all white, which portrays peace
and this is conflicting with the actual scenario as Amir is far from peace.
The color white can also be associated with after death; the after life,
and this might be a signal that Amir’s life might be coming to an end.
This is them emphasized on when Amir find Trevor outside his house.
The bathroom is quite big is size and therefore I will be able to
experiment with shots in this location. There is one main safety hazard
in this location which is slipping but as I wont be using any water in this
scene or any other scene, the risk is minimal. There is also the risk of
the flour clogging up the toilet and I have to find a way where it will be
easy to flush it down.
