of exchanging digital
messages from an author to

were used in early email systems, but
only a single format is used today,
following the standards developed
for Internet mail systems since the

HOW DOES E-MAIL WORK?
• The sender composes a message using
the email client on their computer.
• When the user sends the message, the
email text and attachments are
uploaded to the SMTP (Simple Mail
Transfer Protocol) server as outgoing
mail.
• All outgoing messages wait in the
outgoing mail queue while the SMTP
server communicates with the DNS
(Domain Name Server–like a phone book
for domain names and server IP
addresses) to find out where the
recipient’s email server is located. If
the SMTP server finds the recipient’s
email server, it will transfer the
message and attachments. If the
recipient’s server can’t be found, the
Gmail is afree,advertising-supported emailservice provided by
Google.

Your messages are automatically categorized into

Your deals, offers, and other promotional emails.
Social :
Messages from social networks, media-sharing sites,
online dating services, gaming platforms, and other
social websites
Undosent emails: For a long time, Google has been
experimenting with this feature in its innovative Gmail lab and finally
the experiment hascome out successfully,with the ‘undo sent email’,
which is rolled out to be a part of Gmail forever. If you send anemail to
any recipient accidentally, you will now get the option ‘undo send’.
However, you can availthis option between 5 to 30 seconds.
Save drafts:
As you write a message, Gmail automatically saves a draft of it.
This way, you can always step away from your inbox and finish a
message later.
Compose:
This e-mail feature helps u rite a message to 1 or several people at 1
go. You can also send different files as attachments along with your
main text message
Sent mail:
This folder gives the information of all the sent messages. Messages
sent to others can be saved in the folder.
Forward:
Messages that u have received can b forward 2 someone u wanna
share it with through dis option.
