1. Question 2
How does your media product represent particular social groups
The social classes are being represented in the
magazine by the images or in the article; is hard
to determine due to no stereotypes of any class
being included. For instance the images show the
clothing of the band, clothing other than dialect is
used as a way of identifying a person’s social
group. The band are wearing regular clothes as
apposed to sports clothing stereotypically
associated with lower class social groups or high
end designer clothes associated with the middle.
However they do appear well turned out, happy
and healthy indicating that they are not lower class. The music genre of the band’s
music, which is indie rock, can be identified by their clothing due to the style.
In every image of the magazine there are young adults. Stereotypically young adults
and teenagers are associated with being energetic and loud. If I wanted to present
the band members in the images as stereotypical young adults I would have used the
conventions and layouts similar to Kerrang magazine
which uses bright colours and pages with a busy
appearance. Instead I have used a more formal
approach with more straight lines and continuing the
use of dark red. The images and article do not give a
negative representation of the subjects they only show
their characters.
The images used are mostly of female artists. The band
Doctor Doctor is an all female indie rock band which
goes against the stereotype of women not being
associated with rock. No gender is represented
negatively due a mixture of male and female artist in
the magazine listed on the contents page therefore not associating the magazine
with one gender.
