4. The image I used of ‘Lorde’ on my front cover contrasts with the Rolling
stones cover image of the mature, serious, sexy ‘mean girl’ stereotype.
Although I have stayed true to Lorde’s style and hair, my cover image
emphasizes the cheekiness and playfulness of the indie rock genre. As
my magazine is targeted at a younger audience I wanted them to be able
to relate to my magazine and I wanted it to be instantly visible who my
target audience were. This is why I chose to style and construct my image
in this way as its playful with a relaxed composition. I kept her makeup
minimal and her hair is slightly untidy as I think it represents Lorde well
and suits her age and the target audience will be able to relate to her.
Where as the Rolling stones cover contrasts with my front cover as Lorde
is heavily made up making her look older than she is and her composition
connotes the feeling of her being powerful and superior, its more serious
where as my magazine reflects a younger, cooler and more relaxed image
because this is how indie teens are stereotypically portrayed.
5. Both stances are addressing the audience directly through a gaze
but playfulness is shown in one and seriousness in the other you
can see the change in target audience between magazines, as
indie teens are stereotypical a bit playful and cheeky, this I think is
highlighted on my magazine cover. My image allows the audience
to be more relaxed and shows them that the cover star are down
to earth and just a kid like them, which makes the target audience
feel like they can relate more to the magazine. Natural make up
and hair which highlights the fact that the indie rock genre are
relaxed about their image and not too high maintenance. The soul
purpose of my magazine is music as the indie rock genre are all
about the music there for if the image was more styled and made
up it would take away from the main focus which is the music and
the magazine would appear to be more about the celebrity and
their image. Natural lighting as it looks softer and gives a nice
lightness to the image, where as the other images is clearly shot
using artificial lighting in a specific way to make her look more
superior and powerful.
