On 'The Social Contract' by Rousseau Hong Zhang In class I have discussed this book briefly. My previous discussion is based on how to frame
and discuss possible problems like corruption based on Rousseau's book. In this summary, I will analyze some of the key and interesting points
either by this book or by the class discussion. This book is about political law, government and people. This book gives out bigger view of what a
contract really means in different contents. It is one of the most powerful books in human history. Let me try to understand Rousseau's world as
follows: Legitimacy and Nature Law Rousseau starts this book by legitimacy. Unfortunately, we have very short life and no human being ever lives long

I don't know whether Rousseau was the first one to give that meaning to the word sovereign and many other words. But it is amazing that we still
use the words Rousseau used in his Social Contract. Of course, we still use his ideas today. Rousseau specifically makes distinguish between the
two concepts about common will, the will of all and the general will: There is often a great deal of difference between the will of all and the
general will; the latter considers only the common interest, while the former takes private interest into account, and is no more than a sum of
particular wills: but take away from these same wills the pluses and minuses that cancel one another,7 and the general will remains as the sum of
the differences. Now though he noticed that people have private interests, he believed that in the aggregate will all the private interests will cross
one anther to some degree. If not then there exist some common interests for all social participants. Therefore his sovereign is popular sovereign in
the form of everyone's democratic right. Rousseau opposed interests of associations formed by some members of the society. He said that When one
of these associations is so great as to prevail over all the rest, the result is no longer a sum of small differences, but a single difference; in this case
there is no longer a general will, and the opinion which prevails is purely particular. This is dramatically different from the

What the Dog Saw: and other Adventures Malcolm Gladwell is an English–Canadian journalists who wrote an extraordinary piece of work called
"What the Dog Saw: and other Adventures." In this book there are 19 stories, two specifically have a common theme these two stories are called the
Ketchup Conundrum and True Colors. The Ketchup Conundrum discusses how diverse mustard is compared to ketchup. And True Colors on the other
hand discusses how hair dye advertising shaped the 20th century stigma for women who were trying to hide the strands that they didn't like. In the

In True Colors women were realizing that they could control how others viewed themselves. In the 1950's and 1960's Clairol hired a copywriter
by the name of Shirley Polykoff who created a brilliant campaign which asked "does she or doesn't she"(Gladwell 79)? This slogan was effective
and unforgettable. Clairol then produced an at home color bath that became a breakthrough in the American beauty industry; it was an all in one
product. During this time women weren't as open as they are now about dyeing their hair. This made people wonder "does she or doesn't she"
color her hair?" (Gladwell 77) No one could tell it was like nothing they had ever seen before. The other copywriter was for L'Oreal, the women's
name was Ilon Specht. She understood what the consumer wanted and introduced the phrase "because I'm worth it"(Gladwell 98) She wanted people
to know that they do have an opinion, a choice and a role in society. Herta Zong soon after came into the picture who conducted motivational research
on people. In order for advertisers to get on a psychological level they must understand that consumers build a relationship with their product because
they begin to trust and rely on it. People like routines and products are part of a routine; most people rarely get out of routines because they don't like

Selling Mrs. Female Consumer Analysis
In 1929, Christine Frederick published Selling Mrs. Consumer, which taught manufacturers and advertisers how to sell products to American women.
Consumer culture is now a part of everyday life and is seen as a female activity, and the women's role as a consumer became seen as an almost natural
one, this can be seen in the phrases such as "born to shop." Cnsumer identity masks women's economic and political contributions. Women appear only
on the receiving end of consumer culture. Consumer identity is bound up in notions of the feminine and American women had been consumers for a
long time. During the Revolution, women's political role involved consumer boycotts; women were expected to run a household well, and they took an
active role in purchasing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The growing display of female images in the mass media, which presented youth, beauty, and sexuality in often unrealistic ways increased this. The
gendering of consumption did not really allow for women as producers in the new consumer industries. Women made up a minority of professionals
working in advertising, and magazines in the early twentieth century, and rarely controlled them or held executive positions, most were copywriters,
which was deemed the correct work for women (Peiss, 1998). The businesswomen entered a position as information advisers who claimed to understand
and communicate with women consumers successfully. The early advertising women found work in the large agencies on women's accounts, such as
beauty products, and housewares. In department store merchandising, over forty percent of buyers were women by 1924. A number of female home
economists promoted standardised goods, and brand–names, the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval was also given assuring consumers of the
quality and safety of products under the appearance of good domestic performance (Peiss,

4.What are the possible alternatives (course of action) available? (20 marks)
Annie could discuss with the company to drop using Lance in this campaign and use someone else who is currently consuming the product.
Annie could decline to continue to work on the campaign because it is against her professionalism.
Annie could have asked to be reassign to some other account where the product poses no health hazards or morally ethical.
Annie could propose another method using Lance which doesn't suggest that Lance has ever personally used the product.
Annie could agree to go to work on the campaign as proposed.
Annie could propose another method using Lance which doesn't suggest that Lance has ever personally used the product.
5.What are the ethics involved in these alternatives? (20 marks)
In order to determine the ethics involved in these alternatives, we should look into the outcome of act/omission by a person involved. This would lead
to questions asked based on a "utilitarian" perspective (costs and benefit):
For example: 1.Which possible alternative would provide the greatest benefit to the greatest number?
2.How would costs be measured in this vignette?

Copywriter Cover Letter
I am submitting my resume and cover letter in application for Belk's Copywriter position. I learned of this position via Indeed and was immediately
interested. My ultimate career goal is to become a proofreader and editor. I think that my previous work experience, growing interest in fashion and
beauty, and my educational background makes me the perfect fit for this role.
I have a strong background in concisely conveying relevant product information. During my time as a virtual AT&Tsales representative, I gave product
recommendations to consumers by highlighting features relevant to their stated interests and needs. Because I was communicating via the AT&T
website and not in person, I had to be effective and clear in my word choice while still honoring the AT&T Voice. In learning how to adopt the voice
of my employer, I am prepared to write effective product copy for Belk.com in a way that will be clear and friendly to consumers. As a data entry

Developing A Schedule. Where Do You Begin To Prepare Your
Developing a schedule
Where do you begin to prepare your advertising schedule? The best point of reference is the creative or advertising brief. Here, you will be given a
direction on how long the campaign should run for, when it should begin and when it should end, along with other relevant information. You may
choose to run it over days, weeks, months or even years.
Regardless of which option you select, the length and timing of the campaign will be determined by the targets set by the original brief and the budget.
If there is any doubt about how long the campaign should run for, it is best to go back to the team that created the original brief and seek clarification.
The next step in developing the schedule is to ensure that your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The account executive debriefs the art director and copywriter, who then direct the assembly of the ad. This may require a fashion shoot by a reputable
fashion photographer, a model, make–up artist, wardrobe artist, props, and lighting assistants.
The finished artwork is assembled digitally in the digital studio by a graphic designer, under the direction of the art director. Once the ad is completed
and proofed, it goes back to the client for final approval and sign–off. The production department sends the approved ad directly to the magazine,
electronically, to their production department.
The double–page ad appears in the December edition of the magazine.
As shown in the example above, there are a lot of 'moving parts' to producing a 'simple' ad. With so many moving parts, there are a number of
opportunities for things to go wrong or fall behind schedule, this is why proper planning and scheduling, along with constant follow–up with each of
the people involved in the process, is critical to the success of any advertising campaign.
Identifying relevant service providers
Which service providers will you need to achieve your advertising objectives? This will depend on the type of campaign you are running and the
media you select. As we saw in the previous section, service providers may include:
в—Џdesigners
в—Џphotographers
в—Џmedia planning/buying agencies

Why I 've Done Pretty Well For Myself
When I got started in copywriting, I took the long, uphill battle. I decided I was too good for the copywriting courses out there (and perhaps too
cheap), and turned instead to all the books I could buy (at bargain basement prices) on Amazon.com.
And honestly, I 've done pretty well for myself. I quickly got a job in a marketing department, writing copy regularly, and helping out with other
marketing activities. I then transitioned to sales, where I could continue to hone my copywriting abilities while earning a commission selling my
company 's products.
And all along, I chased secret after secret to copywriting success in cheapo books from Amazon.
But, let me tell you a little secret.
I wouldn 't do it that way again. In fact, in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, it 's the thinking that sets great copywriters apart from good copywriters... And, this thinking is what I 've found to be the biggest takeaway from
the best–of–the–best copywriting courses out there.
So, let me answer three of the most common questions around the copywriting courses out there... With the hope that I can steer you in the right
direction for a successful career.
Question 1: "How Do You Evaluate Copywriting Courses?"
When it comes to copywriting courses, I look to the teacher of the course as my single–biggest factor. And, I have one big question.
"Do they walk the walk?"
Let me use a quick story to illustrate. A famous copywriter got a call from a new potential client. This client was trying to sell a book about "How to
get rich with your own mail order business." The advertisement wasn 't working well enough, so he turned to this copywriter for help.
So, this copywriter asked, "Have you gotten rich with your own mail order business?"
Can you guess what the answer was? "No." He hadn 't. How much stock could anyone put in his advice, then? What was the value of learning how to
get rich in mail order, from someone who hadn 't done it themselves?
There are crooks and charlatans all over the place who talk the talk, but who don 't walk the walk. When I 'm looking to invest in a new copywriting
course, I ask, "Have they done it? Have they succeeded as a copywriter?"
If the answer is, "No," that 's my answer to buying the course. Yet, if they

Summary Of To Err Is Wrong By Roger Von Oech
In Roger Von Oech's "To Err Is Wrong", he argues that being wrong is not necessarily a wrong thing and that having errors may lead to success. He
explains that many see "success and failure as opposites"(2), however Oech states that "they are actually both products of the same process"(2). As
he focuses in success and failure, he supports the idea that if someone makes errors, it gives them the opportunity to explore more ideas and
improve their results. Oech also suggests that people are used to the idea that failing is bad and many prefer not to risk making any mistakes or
failing and that they just take the easy way out. He also brings up the idea that succeeding and failing are a part of daily life because everyone tries

Television Stereotypes: Gender Inequality and Mad Men Since its television debut in 2007, AMC's Mad Men has consistently been brought up in
media conversations about gender equality, or lack thereof, that is present on the show. Set in 1960s New York in the offices of a cutthroat advertising
agency, the show has long portrayed women in both a sexual and demeaning light. With nearly every main male character straying repeatedly outside of
their marriage and the constant turnaround of sexy twenty–something secretaries rotating throughout the offices of the fictional Sterling–Cooper and
Sterling, Cooper, Draper, Pryce agencies, Mad Men has become the subject of much gender–based discussion over the past five years.
In the world in which the Mad Men characters exist, the men are the epitome of power, with the female members of the cast placed into lower–level
positions in both the workplace and in their home lives. Throughout the majority of the show, wives, girlfriends and mistresses are worn almost like
accessories, being demeaned at home, openly cheated upon, lied to, and through it all, always expected to arrive on their often unfaithful husband's
arm at public functions and work parties with a smile on their face and looking like Grace Kelly. Especially in the first few seasons, viewers cannot sit
through an episode without being bombarded with images and themes of gender inequality and female stereotypes. The Washington Post wrote that,

Drinking Like A Man
When I first learned of this assignment, I began Google searching print ads to get inspiration on different campaigns. I was immediately drawn to
this British campaign for the Drug and Alcohol Service of London (DASL): This print ad caught my attention because of the shock value of the
headline " If You Drink Like a man You Might End Up Looking Like One." My initial reaction was what classifies as "drinking like a man" are they
talking about drinking beer, drinking larger quantities of alcohol or indulging more often. The thought of what it meant to drink like a man piqued
my interest and the headline hooked me with "you might end up looking like one". I instantly wanted to read more about how my alcohol
consumption would "make me look like a man". As most people know drinking alcohol is bad for you however how much do you have to drink
before you start seeing noticeable effects like mentioned in the ad. Then, I read the body copy, which speaks to the female audience that wine doesn't
come with just cheese but a variety of negative side effects on your health and beauty. The DASL is warning that, "Apart from a stinking hangover, it

Aristotle's Ethos Pathos Logos
Something that every good salesperson, copywriter, publicist, anyone whose livelihood rests on their ability to sell, should know. And no, nothing sells
itself. If you see an ad that claims this, that's a line.
But how do you learn persuasive writing? Why, you start from the beginning of course.
The very beginning. We're talking obscure Mesopotamian Akkadian scriptures. Don't have time to read article from 23 centuries BC? Yeah maybe
that's a little too early. Lets fast forward to Aristotle.
We're starting with Aristotle because he was one of the most influential philosophers onrhetoric. He wrote a three part series entitled Rhetoric that
outlined how people may build a powerful argument using persuasion.
Outlined are the 3 means of persuading an audience according to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And it is a part of a widely used persuasive writing structure called the 4 P's.
Creating ethos is what you are doing when you put testimonials on your website or share business licenses and awards. It's creating an image of
yourself as an expertise in your field. Hence, people will believe you when you tell them your product will do XYZ for them.
Pathos
Pathos means the emotional argument. It's thought that the best copywriting appeals to emotions. The logic behind emotional selling goes that if you
sell by emotion, the thing you are selling is a want. If you sell based on logic and need people will go for the lowest cost option. People are much
more likely to spend more money on something they want than something they need so selling my emotion and want allows you to sell your product
even if it's not the lowest option by a long shot.
Because pathos is such a critical component of powerful copywriting I will dedicate an entire article to it and specific techniques used that elicit
emotional reactions. For now, just watch this Samsung ad featuring a snail (no that's not a typo) that pulls on your emotions

When people think of having a career in psychology their interest is usually sparked by the stereotypical idea of the profession, at least that was the
case for myself. In my youth I conjured up images of myself sitting with a distressed patient who would be sprawled across something resembling a
Victorian fainting couch, in which I would nod and utter the phrase, spoken by every fictional therapist ever, "So how does that make you feel?"
Once I actually took this innate interest in the subject seriously, I began to separate the illusion I held about the field from the facts. I realized the

Some cons are you must be very proactive in creating your own job opportunities in the beginning. You can start by doing freelance work to build
your portfolio or securing an internship by contacting advertising and marketing firms. ("Become an advertising copywriter: Education and career
Roadmap," n.d.) Since the acquisition of new accounts usually depends on the success of your previous work for other clients it can be difficult
getting your start as you will generally not have had a wide array of published material. Which also means a low starting salary. Now as for the pros
those are plentiful. You have the ability to work in an office setting or become a freelancer. You are continuously trying to understand peoples wants,
needs, and desires which is endlessly fascinating. You are researching constantly which intern means you are always learning. There is always an
element of variety to your work because of the diverse cliental and products. Lastly and most importantly the value placed on your creativity and
innovation. Although I plan to continue my academic career once I receive my BA, it is important to know my options and how they relate to my

Writing Copywork
If you simply take a moment to think about how many times per day you read something, it can help you get a feel for just how much work is really
out there for the freelance writer. Writers tend to be avid readers to begin with, but try to think in terms of the average person. Someone has to write
the books, magazines, and newspapers we seek, as well as labels, pamphlets, and advertisements we may not. That "someone" could very well be you!
Copywriting or "writing copy" entails creating written content specifically for marketing purposes. These works will typically be used in digital and
print materials to promote products, inform potential customers and clients, and to build a brand image.
Sound like interesting work? Here are some examples ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a copywriter, you may find work doing print or digital advertisements – or both! The only difference will likely be the formatting and the targeted
audience. The goal here is usually to be succinct and catchy, though larger spreads and wider campaigns may require more.
Social Media and Web Copy
Businesses and individuals alike are constantly learning just how valuable a web presence can be (it's important for professional writers, as well, but
that's another article series). "The platform" can play the role a major marketing tool, but it tends to work quite differently from standard advertising.
Because of the social nature of the internet, writing copy for websites and social media usually means connecting in a more personal, organic way.
Reports and Press Releases
If you're not a business–savvy person, it can be difficult to think of marketing in terms of anything other than directly pitching products and ideas. Yet
in the vast business world, all signs point to "buy." Press releases are usually huge announcements of new products or other big news, though anything
written up to be given to the media counts as a press release. Reports, on the other hand, tend to happen annually and are an opportunity to show
potential investors the benefits of making a monetary

How Useful Are Copywriter Rates?
As a prospective copywriting client, copywriter day rates are probably one of the first things you'll think about. As well as giving you an
indication of likely costs (or not, because copywriter rates actually give very little idea of how much a job will cost), copywriter rates can be a
good indicator of a copywriter's quality. This is particularly true when you consider published copywriter day rates alongside a writer's portfolio and
experience. Location too is important: a copywriter in, say Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, will probably have lower overheads and be able to offer more
attractive day rates than a similarly experienced wordsmith in the Home Counties. Similarly, a good 'one man band' probably has lower overheads than
a multi–person copywriting agency, while bringing equally good (or better) skills and experience.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many copywriters publish a guideline day rate on their website. Some even contain menus for different projects. Menus are fine when you are
buying pizza or your daily latte. However, though menu pricing appears attractive at first, it may not be as advantageous as you think when
choosing your copywriting partner. This is because more projects are different than are similar... In practice, once they have clearly understood the
scope of the work required, many freelance writers prefer to give a fixed price project fee based on their given copywriting day rate. This is good for
you, the client, because you can budget their copywriting more accurately. Provided you don't change the scope of a copywriting project halfway
through, an experienced copywriter should be able to give you an estimate or quotation for your

Capitalism Exposed In Joseph Heller's Catch-22
As Dr. Foster said in his seminar: 'The 20th Century was the American Century.' It was where it's popular culture, and subsequently the culture that is
present today, was shaped. We're talking about the space race, wars including World War One and Two, Vietnam war, the cold war, feminism, the civil
rights movement, just to name a few. Catch–22 captures much of America's development between the 1940s–60s through a satirical perspective of the
American ideologies, particularly in regard to World War Two, and foreshadowed attitudes to the Vietnam war. Heller's protagonist, a World War Two
pilot, recognises that only an insane person would want to fly any more missions. However, when he tells his superiors this, they say that the fact that
he wants to be grounded proves his sanity, so must keep flying. The popularity of Heller's novel led to the use of "catch–22" in common conversation
to describe any impossible bureaucratic dilemma. An aspect which is frequently over looked in both the book and when considering America during
this period of time is the post–world war 2 economic expansion and economic dream of capitalism and free enterprise through free market. This
economic expansion came at the end of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Capitalism is an economic system where because businesses are privately owned, supply and demand is created and drives growth. Free enterprise is
an economic system where few restrictions are placed on a business by the government. Capitalism bloomed after World War Two due to these factors:
the distrust of the government built on the Great Depression; the industrial development during the war; and the fact that the strict rations were lifted.
Businesses were encouraged to grow, as well as individuals to gain more money across the socio–economic spectrum resulting in an increased GI, GDP

Every other week I created a detailed outline of three very different ideas that I wanted to write about that GVSU students could connect to. My
supervisor then chose what my article would be on based on those three outlines. The weeks that I was not sending my supervisor article ideas, I
was writing the satirical article as well as making editorial decisions based on the feedback I receive from my first draft. Sometimes it would take
two drafts, while other times it would take three. After my supervisor felt that it was an exceptional piece of work, she posted it online where I would
then share it through social media to get my target audience aware that it was up and excited to read it. Throughout the entire internship, I completed

all great plans can, in the beginning, put a damper on how we feel about the upcoming year. However, as we add budgeting to our planning process

Jim Riswold worked for this campaign with the filmmaker Spike Lee and they both got inspired of this creative idea from the first Spike's movie,
She's Gotta Have It. Jim Riswold recalled his inspiration from that movie, "There's a character in the movie named Mars Blackmon who so loves
the man Air Jordan and the Air Jordan shoes, when he has the chance to sleep with the girl of his dreams he won't remove his Jordan's" (Wieden +
Kennedy). By his inspiration, Jim and Spike were starting to shoot their first Spike and Mike commercials, which was also the first time humor
ever made into Nike spot. Jim and Spike executed the spots more easier than they thought because they caught the point of both Mars Blackmon,
Michael Jordan and the Nike Jordan shoes together into one spot. Most of the audience already known who is the Michael Jordan, but less people
known Mars Blackmon who is the number one big fan of Michael Jordan. So, Jim wanted to shot the commercial like Mars instead of Spike.
Basically Jim made Mars pretended to produce, wrote, and recorded it by himself. This commercial was well executed and demonstrated, thus it gave
the positive, playful and powerful identity to the NBA especially for the Jordan's humanizing image as a big star

Comparing Advertising Essay
Comparing Advertising
An advertisement is usually a text that is designed to attract the attention of the consumer and try and persuade them to buy a product. The
advertisements that will be compared differ in many ways – but the attribute that they both have in common is that that they are both trying to sell
something. Their purpose, audience, medium, language and the devices that the copywriters employ will be discussed.
The two advertisements that will be looked at are in stark contrast to each other. The first comes from The Daily Star, a newspaper widely considered
to be the "most tabloid" of all of the tabloid newspapers in Britain. Synonymous with paper are sex scandals and libel cases. ... Show more content on

It is advertising a "proofer," (The EPSON COLOR Proofer 5000) which is the printing device used by producers of professional leaflets to check their
final copies before sending them for mass printing. The leaflet is in six ages, of which four are technical information about the product and its
specifications. This is highly unusual and would suggest that the advertisement is not aimed at the average consumer. The information within the
leaflet talks about advances in EPSON technology that are not necessarily specific to this particular product. Therefore, the advertisement is also
aiming to promote the whole EPSON range of products.
Another area where the advertismentisements differ greatly is their target audience. The first advertisement was placed in the Daily Star, a paper
whose target audience is generally accepted to be the British working class. As the advertisement covers a whole page, it is almost impossible to miss
it if one is reading the paper properly and thus, the target audience of the advertisement is the same as that of the newspaper itself (as opposed to a
small advertisement near the sport section, where only people reading that section thoroughly would see it).
The target audience of the second advertisement is more specialised. It is difficult to believe that this advertisement would come to the attention of
anyone that wasn't interested

The Language Of Advertising: The Use Of Language In...
The aim of the paper is to propose a simple approach to monitor the language of the advertisement use in it. The work provides the analysis of
language of advertising from language point of view and specifies linguistic means used in advertising texts. The work brings knowledge about the use
of linguistic devices in advertisement. In this paper, the researchers' are concerned with the language of advertisement. The main reason to choose this
topic was the interesting use of language in media culture, how the English language gets moulded by the advertisers, to grab the attention of the
audience towards their product. Language plays a great role in persuading and making others to listen and pay attention. Language of advertisement is
therefore used, to persuade the audience. English language and its use in different contexts is interesting to note and is been studied for ages. The

It is for everybody including kids, young and old. The language used in media advertisement is of creativity.
The English language is known for its vocabulary and creativity of words. Where in, the other languages have only one or two words which carry a
particular meaning, English may have five or six for a particular word.
Moreover, the meanings of these five or six words may differ very slightly and in a very subtle way. It is important to understand the connotation of a
word. It is the feeling or ideas that are suggested by a word, rather than the actual meaning of the word. Armchair, for example, suggests comfort,
whereas chair arouses no particular feelings. This shows that the different words of English are used to show creativity in advertising a product.
The advertisers adapt language to their own use and take compound words and use them as adjectives. The compound word later widely used in normal
situations. For top– quality, economy–size, chocolate, feather–light and

  • 1. Copywriter On 'The Social Contract' by Rousseau Hong Zhang In class I have discussed this book briefly. My previous discussion is based on how to frame and discuss possible problems like corruption based on Rousseau's book. In this summary, I will analyze some of the key and interesting points either by this book or by the class discussion. This book is about political law, government and people. This book gives out bigger view of what a contract really means in different contents. It is one of the most powerful books in human history. Let me try to understand Rousseau's world as follows: Legitimacy and Nature Law Rousseau starts this book by legitimacy. Unfortunately, we have very short life and no human being ever lives long ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I don't know whether Rousseau was the first one to give that meaning to the word sovereign and many other words. But it is amazing that we still use the words Rousseau used in his Social Contract. Of course, we still use his ideas today. Rousseau specifically makes distinguish between the two concepts about common will, the will of all and the general will: There is often a great deal of difference between the will of all and the general will; the latter considers only the common interest, while the former takes private interest into account, and is no more than a sum of particular wills: but take away from these same wills the pluses and minuses that cancel one another,7 and the general will remains as the sum of the differences. Now though he noticed that people have private interests, he believed that in the aggregate will all the private interests will cross one anther to some degree. If not then there exist some common interests for all social participants. Therefore his sovereign is popular sovereign in the form of everyone's democratic right. Rousseau opposed interests of associations formed by some members of the society. He said that When one of these associations is so great as to prevail over all the rest, the result is no longer a sum of small differences, but a single difference; in this case there is no longer a general will, and the opinion which prevails is purely particular. This is dramatically different from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Similarities and Differences Between True Colors and... What the Dog Saw: and other Adventures Malcolm Gladwell is an English–Canadian journalists who wrote an extraordinary piece of work called "What the Dog Saw: and other Adventures." In this book there are 19 stories, two specifically have a common theme these two stories are called the Ketchup Conundrum and True Colors. The Ketchup Conundrum discusses how diverse mustard is compared to ketchup. And True Colors on the other hand discusses how hair dye advertising shaped the 20th century stigma for women who were trying to hide the strands that they didn't like. In the Ketchup Conundrum French's mustard dominated the shelves; there was nothing else like it. So the Heublein Company wanted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In True Colors women were realizing that they could control how others viewed themselves. In the 1950's and 1960's Clairol hired a copywriter by the name of Shirley Polykoff who created a brilliant campaign which asked "does she or doesn't she"(Gladwell 79)? This slogan was effective and unforgettable. Clairol then produced an at home color bath that became a breakthrough in the American beauty industry; it was an all in one product. During this time women weren't as open as they are now about dyeing their hair. This made people wonder "does she or doesn't she" color her hair?" (Gladwell 77) No one could tell it was like nothing they had ever seen before. The other copywriter was for L'Oreal, the women's name was Ilon Specht. She understood what the consumer wanted and introduced the phrase "because I'm worth it"(Gladwell 98) She wanted people to know that they do have an opinion, a choice and a role in society. Herta Zong soon after came into the picture who conducted motivational research on people. In order for advertisers to get on a psychological level they must understand that consumers build a relationship with their product because they begin to trust and rely on it. People like routines and products are part of a routine; most people rarely get out of routines because they don't like change. Which means that people do form bonds with their ... • 5. Selling Mrs. Female Consumer Analysis In 1929, Christine Frederick published Selling Mrs. Consumer, which taught manufacturers and advertisers how to sell products to American women. Consumer culture is now a part of everyday life and is seen as a female activity, and the women's role as a consumer became seen as an almost natural one, this can be seen in the phrases such as "born to shop." Cnsumer identity masks women's economic and political contributions. Women appear only on the receiving end of consumer culture. Consumer identity is bound up in notions of the feminine and American women had been consumers for a long time. During the Revolution, women's political role involved consumer boycotts; women were expected to run a household well, and they took an active role in purchasing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The growing display of female images in the mass media, which presented youth, beauty, and sexuality in often unrealistic ways increased this. The gendering of consumption did not really allow for women as producers in the new consumer industries. Women made up a minority of professionals working in advertising, and magazines in the early twentieth century, and rarely controlled them or held executive positions, most were copywriters, which was deemed the correct work for women (Peiss, 1998). The businesswomen entered a position as information advisers who claimed to understand and communicate with women consumers successfully. The early advertising women found work in the large agencies on women's accounts, such as beauty products, and housewares. In department store merchandising, over forty percent of buyers were women by 1924. A number of female home economists promoted standardised goods, and brand–names, the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval was also given assuring consumers of the quality and safety of products under the appearance of good domestic performance (Peiss, ... • 13. Developing A Schedule. Where Do You Begin To Prepare Your Developing a schedule Where do you begin to prepare your advertising schedule? The best point of reference is the creative or advertising brief. Here, you will be given a direction on how long the campaign should run for, when it should begin and when it should end, along with other relevant information. You may choose to run it over days, weeks, months or even years. Regardless of which option you select, the length and timing of the campaign will be determined by the targets set by the original brief and the budget. If there is any doubt about how long the campaign should run for, it is best to go back to the team that created the original brief and seek clarification. This may require a fashion shoot by a reputable fashion photographer, a model, make–up artist, wardrobe artist, props, and lighting assistants. Once the ad is completed and proofed, it goes back to the client for final approval and sign–off. The production department sends the approved ad directly to the magazine, electronically, to their production department. The double–page ad appears in the December edition of the magazine. As shown in the example above, there are a lot of 'moving parts' to producing a 'simple' ad. With so many moving parts, there are a number of opportunities for things to go wrong or fall behind schedule, this is why proper planning and scheduling, along with constant follow–up with each of the people involved in the process, is critical to the success of any advertising campaign. And honestly, I 've done pretty well for myself. I quickly got a job in a marketing department, writing copy regularly, and helping out with other marketing activities. I then transitioned to sales, where I could continue to hone my copywriting abilities while earning a commission selling my company 's products. Question 1: "How Do You Evaluate Copywriting Courses?" When it comes to copywriting courses, I look to the teacher of the course as my single–biggest factor. And, I have one big question. "Do they walk the walk?" Let me use a quick story to illustrate. A famous copywriter got a call from a new potential client. This client was trying to sell a book about "How to get rich with your own mail order business." The advertisement wasn 't working well enough, so he turned to this copywriter for help.
  • 16. So, this copywriter asked, "Have you gotten rich with your own mail order business?" Can you guess what the answer was? "No." He hadn 't. How much stock could anyone put in his advice, then? There are crooks and charlatans all over the place who talk the talk, but who don 't walk the walk. When I 'm looking to invest in a new copywriting course, I ask, "Have they done it? Have they succeeded as a copywriter?" If the answer is, "No," that 's my answer to buying the course. Yet, if they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As he focuses in success and failure, he supports the idea that if someone makes errors, it gives them the opportunity to explore more ideas and improve their results. Television Stereotypes: Gender Inequality and Mad Men Since its television debut in 2007, AMC's Mad Men has consistently been brought up in media conversations about gender equality, or lack thereof, that is present on the show. Set in 1960s New York in the offices of a cutthroat advertising agency, the show has long portrayed women in both a sexual and demeaning light. With nearly every main male character straying repeatedly outside of their marriage and the constant turnaround of sexy twenty–something secretaries rotating throughout the offices of the fictional Sterling–Cooper and Sterling, Cooper, Draper, Pryce agencies, Mad Men has become the subject of much gender–based discussion over the past five years. In the world in which the Mad Men characters exist, the men are the epitome of power, with the female members of the cast placed into lower–level positions in both the workplace and in their home lives. Throughout the majority of the show, wives, girlfriends and mistresses are worn almost like accessories, being demeaned at home, openly cheated upon, lied to, and through it all, always expected to arrive on their often unfaithful husband's arm at public functions and work parties with a smile on their face and looking like Grace Kelly. Hence, people will believe you when you tell them your product will do XYZ for them. Pathos Pathos means the emotional argument. It's thought that the best copywriting appeals to emotions. The logic behind emotional selling goes that if you sell by emotion, the thing you are selling is a want. If you sell based on logic and need people will go for the lowest cost option. People are much more likely to spend more money on something they want than something they need so selling my emotion and want allows you to sell your product even if it's not the lowest option by a long shot. It was where it's popular culture, and subsequently the culture that is present today, was shaped. We're talking about the space race, wars including World War One and Two, Vietnam war, the cold war, feminism, the civil rights movement, just to name a few. Catch–22 captures much of America's development between the 1940s–60s through a satirical perspective of the American ideologies, particularly in regard to World War Two, and foreshadowed attitudes to the Vietnam war. Heller's protagonist, a World War Two pilot, recognises that only an insane person would want to fly any more missions. However, when he tells his superiors this, they say that the fact that he wants to be grounded proves his sanity, so must keep flying. The popularity of Heller's novel led to the use of "catch–22" in common conversation to describe any impossible bureaucratic dilemma. The leaflet is in six ages, of which four are technical information about the product and its specifications. This is highly unusual and would suggest that the advertisement is not aimed at the average consumer. The information within the leaflet talks about advances in EPSON technology that are not necessarily specific to this particular product. Therefore, the advertisement is also aiming to promote the whole EPSON range of products. Another area where the advertismentisements differ greatly is their target audience.
