The Future Of Solar Energy
Almost everywhere there is technology, and what does technology require? Energy. Such a simple
answer, but where does it come from? That is a question many tend to overlook. There are many
energy resources that are being harnessed in this modern age, all of which are truly interesting in
their own special ways, but solar energy seems to stand out. The idea that mankind can concentrate
the Sun's light and turn it into energy for personal use is very interesting. Although solar energy does
have its drawbacks, its importance and potential should not be ignored. It has huge promise as
developments are being made everyday. There is a chance that solar energy could very well be the
solution to the current energy crisis that faces mankind. As time has passed, even over the past
decade, its presence has increased. There are also many advantages of going solar, and because of its
availability it is being harnessed in many different regions all around the world. From its primitive
beginnings to now it has undergone many dramatic changes, and if it continues to evolve it may just
make the future a brighter place. Society is too dependent on the fossil fuels. They have been used
for hundreds of years and are still the major producers of energy. They include coal, oil, and natural
gas. Except for a few exceptions society has been barreling forward and burning up the fossil fuels
without stepping back and considering the consequences. Because of this the world is

The Energy Of Solar Energy
According to the National Institute for Energy Research and the U.S. Energy Information
Administration, solar energy makes up only 0.5% of total energy consumption in the United States,
and over 65% of consumed energy is natural gas and petroleum. (2016) These statistics show that
nearly two–thirds of the energy the United States uses is not only non–renewable but the processess
of harnessing it also causes pollution. Solar Energy is energy that is transferred through solar
radiation in the form of electromagnetic energy. In the transference of solar radiation to Earth from
the Sun, only one billionth of this energy arrives at Earth 's surface. A joule is the equivalence of one
watt of power that is created through exertion for one second. One trillion watts of this generated
energy is known as a terawatt. As Haugen and Musser (2012), examined types of alternative,
renewable energy sources, they looked at hydro–power. They said that it, "is the most used
renewable energy source used in the United States. It accounted for almost 80 percent of the
renewable energy and 9 percent of the total electricity generated in the United States in 2008." This
shows that solar is not the only option for renewable energy, nor is it the most used. Solar power,
however, does not instigate change in the environment as hydro–power does. In order for many of
the dams to be created to instigate the use of hydro–power, waterways have to be rerouted or
otherwise altered from their natural

The Solar Of Solar Energy
Introduction
Photovoltaic Solar Energy
Throughout history, mankind had always wonder the mysterious secrets of nature with an attempt to
make a replica of its magnificent work. Solar photovoltaic energy is the process to convert sunlight
into electrical power as energy; imitating the process of photosynthesis that plants create to survive.
Photovoltaic energy is not something recently discovered, it actually goes over 160 years The basic
science was first discovered in 1839 but the pace of advancement really accelerated in three major
thrusts in the 20th century 2 .From the beginning of history in 1839 the french physicist Alexandre
Edmond Becquerel conducting an experiment that discovered the light–electricity conversion and
Edward Weston who created the first solar cell in 1888 to Albert Einstein paper on the photoelectric
effect that things started to begin experimenting with solar cells to create solar energy. It was until
1954 that the commercial solar age began where Bell laboratories created the first Si solar cell
achieving 6% of efficiency 2 and primary satellites were the first ones to test those cells. To fully
understand the principles of Photovoltaic Energy we first need to learn how is sunlight converted
into electrical energy. Photovoltaic cells or (PV) cells or solar cells convert the sunlight directly into
electricity (DC). When the sun makes direct contact with the PV cell, the PV cell's semiconducting
materials absorb the light energy and producing

This is the amount of heat required to change the state of matter of a substance from a solid to a

every single person used this as their energy source. The first graph shows that the temperature
changes as time increases. The second graph shows the tangent line that represents the heat of

Solar Energy Disadvantages
Now we will talk about the experiences of some developed countries in the exploitation of solar
energy as renewable energy and their planes for development in this filed and the areas in which
these countries planning to use the solar energy. (www.ezinearticles.com )
Germany Ten thousand megawatts: Germany is one of the most countries use of solar energy, and
plans because the rate of use will be 100% by the year 2050. In view of the year 2009 alone, we find
that Germany has installed 3,806 megawatts of solar power generators; any more than the full
capacity of solar energy Spain, and nearly eight times what the United States has recently install it.
Spain
3 500 megawatts: for as long as Spain was the leader in the field of solar energy use in their capacity
of 2008 amounted to the equivalent of Al2605 megawatts, but abandoned this position in favor of
Germany, so the sharp decline in that year's event in 2009, where Spain is the time did not ride only
69 megawatts only. However, Spain is expected to return to the top spot this year.

Japan
2,700 MW: Maybe it is the sudden occupation of Japan to third place, but it plans to achieve an
ambitious goal through access of 28 gaga watts by 2020 and 53 gaga watts by the year 2030. Note
that Japan has in 2009 invested $ 9 billion for the program of solar energy is currently planning the
government for the use of solar energy in 32 thousand schools.

Solar Energy Essay
Solar Energy Since the beginning of humanity, people have relied on the sun for their daily needs.
Whether it is to grow the crops that they eat, dry clothes or warm their family, people have relied on
the resource of the sun for sustainability. It was not until people started to get the idea of managing
this energy source, that people were able to fully take advantage of the sun.
In 1767, a Swiss scientist discovered a practical way to harness the energy of the sun. Horace de
Saussure invented the "solar hot box," the first devise to attract and capture the energy capabilities
of the sun. The main uses of this primitive solar box consisted of cooking food, distilling water and
pumping water for irrigation. It was not until the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Among soaring prices and shortages in petroleum, the President encouraged citizens to take
advantage of solar opportunities. He had solar panels installed in the White House, and offered
numerous incentives to the American People who used solar heating. His encouragement was so
successful that by the early 1980's, over one–hundred national solar–heating manufacturers and
suppliers were in business.
An additional boost for solar energy was the creation of the U.S. Department of Energy, and the
Solar Energy Research Institute, soon to be known as National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
These organizations increased knowledge and practicality of solar power usage, and kept it in the
minds of the U.S. government. Because of them, the first solar power plant, Luz International, was
built in 1985. This plant was responsible for huge cuts in the expense of solar power. However, after
less than a decade, the plant substantially lost its practicality. Critics site a stabilization of natural
gas and electricity costs, high operating and maintenance costs for the solar plant, and expiring tax
incentives as main reasons for Luz International's downfall.
While solar power is one of the cleanest, environmentally friendly ways of producing energy, its
popularity has rapidly declined, especially in the United States. Currently, solar power is an
excellent supplement to other sources of energy, and has been rumored to eventually

Solar Power And Solar Energy
Solar energy is capable of providing a cleaner energy than most forms of energy generation, and
solar energy is able to be generated economically. Solar energy reduces the amount of harm to the
environment from energy generation, by providing a cleaner alternative. Solar energy also provides
jobs for construction and installation of solar powered technologies. The cost of installing solar
panels can vary greatly, but its long term benefits outweigh the costs. Typically a solar panel system
is a three kilowatts to eight kilowatts system that cost fifteen thousand to forty thousand dollars to
install, total cost depends on circumstances of installation. However tax credits and incentives help
recoup a portion of the cost in the first year, the savings of electricity cost makes installing the
system profitable in under 10 years (Maehlum). Purchasing the system requires a large loan,
however paying the loan can be substantially better than paying utility bills when the investment
will eventually be paid for. If the system is large enough to handle the requirements of the
household, the only payment for electricity will be the cost of the loan. Making loan payments
instead of paying utility bills is predictable, and any excess energy will be used as a credit for
months were the owner 's energy use may exceed the generated amount. Within10 years of financing
the solar panels, the cost of the solar panels will already made up by the cost savings from not
paying for utility

Passive Solar Power : The Use Of Solar Energy
Solar power is the energy that is retrieved from the sun that is transformed into thermal or electrical
energy. It is known to being one of the cleanest and abundant renewable energy source available.
Solar energy can be utilized in many forms for instance, photovoltaics (known as solar electric)
solar heating and cooling concentrating solar power (typically built at utility scale), and passive
solar. (About Solar Energy. n.d.).
Two most common ways solar energy is adapted into being useful are first in the form of passive
solar energy which refers to controlling the sun's energy without the use of mechanical devices.
Passive solar is applied in three ways passive solar cooling which minimizes the impact the summer
sun has on a home. By positioning your home and landscape it can help benefit of cooling breezes.
Passive solar heating which insulates a home to minimize heat loss. By positioning your home in a
way that most of the windows are facing the south and insulating your home to minimize heat loss.
Daylighting brings natural light which illuminates the home in helping to reduce costs. (Passive
Solar Energy – Naturally Heat, Cool, & Light Your Home. n.d.).
Active solar energy is a cost–effective way for homeowners by gathering and using energy from the
sun for their solar heating needs. Active solar is used in solar heating which uses different systems to
distribute heat throughout your home. By using fans, pumps, and blowers that help collect, store,

The Benefits Of Solar Energy
Solar energy is defined as "power obtained by harnessing the energy of the sun's rays."
(Dictionary.com, 2017) People have been using the sun for thousands of years for warmth, growing
food, drying out food and clothes. Using solar energy in public schools could benefit all of the
society with the creation of more clean energy and be able to stretch the use of nonrenewable
resources. According to National Center for Education Statistics, there are 98,328 public schools in
America. (Statistics, 2016) This number is rising increasingly which means we need more energy to
keep these schools heated in the winters, cooled in the summers, and lit with lights. In the united
states, 68% of the electricity used is from nonrenewable fossil fuels. When converting these fossil
fuels to electricity they produce harmful substances including carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide,
sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxides. These substances are hazardous to human health, causes acid
rain, and contributes to global warming. If the public schools in America transitioned to the solar
energy it would lower the cost of utility bills on the school districts, it would increase the
educational opportunities for the students, and it would positively impact the preservation of Earth.
The main reason to switch public schools to solar energy is for the long–term financial benefits. It
takes a lot of money to run a school district, especially in larger cities. In the year 2013–14 $1.3
billion was spent on

merchandises, most solar engineering corporations use flat plates and was labeled as old–fashioned
compared to the Solyndra's PV Solar structure. Consumers preferred the solar merchandises of the

In doing so, this would mean misuse of public funds since the government has no obligation to

2012). In 2011, the Committee on Energy and Commerce released an investigation into the
department of Energy's (DOE) administration of the Loan Guarantee Program. The examination to
this day has predominantly concentrated on DOE's management process with status to a Five–
hundred and thirty–five million dollar loan guarantee allotted to Solyndra Inc. (Solyndra). In 2009,
the loan was rearranged due to the corporation's unfortunate financial position. During this
examination, the Committee has been directed by a guileless determination; which is to conclude

Solar Energy ~Some history, types, and facts~ In this modern fast paced world that we live in, there
are many issues that are looked over, energy is one of these. As a world, we are dependant on
dwindling fossil fuel supplies and take for granted electricity, oil, and gas. There are four completely
renewable sources of energy around us that should be used and developed, they are: wind, growing
plants, flowing water, and the sun. These sources of energy are the ones we should be tapping,
because they are reliable and renewable. Harnessing the suns energy is the most certain and ultimate
energy source. Looking at a brief history and some facts about solar energy, a glimpse of the future

Bailey decided to separate the water heating system and the water storage system because at night
the water in the tank would cool down. The greatest energy that can be produced by the sun is
electricity. Photovoltaics, or solar cells, capture the sun and convert it into electricity. Solar cells
were discovered by the Europeans back in the 1870's when they used selenium to develop the
telegraph. They found that when light hits selenium it would produce and electrical current. Soon
enough there were many scientists and engineers working on photovoltaic systems. Silicon and
Selenium proved to be the two best elements to conduct electricity when light hits them.
Photovoltaic systems (PV cell) work by converting the suns light into electricity. A semi conducting
material absorbs the sunlight, that energy knocks electrons loose from their atoms, this allows the
electrons to flow through the material to produce electricity. The further development of solar cells
can be attributed to the satellite industry. Solar cells were expensive and there was no use for them
until satellites came. Because it is impractical to tether satellites it became important to develop
solar energy at any cost that would power these satellites. This created a sustainable market for solar
power, the first of its kind. Passive solar heating designs are some of the simplest forms of
incorporating solar energy into your daily home life. Passive solar designs incorporate the sun

Solar Energy : Solving The Problem Of Solar Energy
The Sun's energy overpowers all of the energy sources made on Earth. Even though only a fraction
of the Sun's energy makes it to Earth, it is still ten–thousand times more powerful than the energy
sources on Earth. However, we are unable to harness such energy because of the many breaches we
have to past through to achieve solar energy. As well, solar energy lacks certain aspects causing
fossil fuels to be valued more. Although, by creating engineering advancements to improve the
efficiency, expenditure, and availability of solar energy, the problem of solar energy usage will be
resolved. Solar energy has been already efficient with the environment; however, in order to solve
this problem, we need to improve its efficiency with energy. In order for solar energy to be
considered energy efficient today, we have to make the proportion of kilowatt hours produced over
cost needed for it less than the proportion of this to fossil fuels. For example, in order to produce 1
kilowatt–hour or 3.6 megajoules with solar energy, we need 50 cents. However, in order to produce
1 kilowatt–hour with coal, we only need about 3 cents. Over the years, we have decreased the price
little by little to now 18–30 cents, but this still cannot compete with fossil fuels that are all less than
10 cents. In order to solve this problem, we would need to improve the amount of energy received
from the solar cells. We could achieve this by finding alternative materials to use on the cells to

Homes are currently being powered by electricity which is provided by companies. Can houses be
powered only by solar panels? Powering a home by converting sunlight into usable energy to power
the house and being off–grid. Electricity is usually made by burning coal, oil or gas and to use these
resources a lot of money is being used (Bbc.co.uk, 2017). Approximately 173000000000000000
terawatts are given off by the sun which is 10 times more power than what people already use thus
using the free energy would be the wiser option (Sapowernetworks.com.au, n.d.). Solar panels use

There are many benefits of solar panels but also some negatives. Some positives are it will save a lot
of money, producing less pollution and it is also renewable. The negatives are solar panels are not
efficient due to several reasons and these system are expensive. The central theme is to explore if
solar panels can power an entire house which is off–grid. To elaborate, powering from solar panels
saves a lot of money for the homeowners. As solar panels power the home, homeowners would use
the electricity been generated from the solar panels and not from their electricity providers.
Secondly, the excess amount of power which was not used is bought by the electricity companies in
form of solar feed–in tariff. Lastly, solar panels even raise the value of the house. For example, a
two–bedroom house a 3kW system is installed and without solar panels, the

Solar energy is the largest energy resource available on earth. Not to mention concern about climate
change have made this resource prevalent to individuals looking to lower their carbon footprint.
Installing solar panels can decrease a household's carbon footprint by an average of 35,180 pounds
of carbon dioxide per year (Tusher, Christine, 2014). Solar panels got their start in the 1950s. They
are what produce solar electricity by using photovoltaic (PV) cells, meaning they are batteries that
harness sunlight, transform it into energy, then send the energy to an inverter, which in turn converts
the energy into electricity. A well–known example of an object that uses solar panels to power itself

Not many address the economic point of view in regards to solar energy, and how it will compete
with electricity generated by fossil fuels. In order for the solar industry to stand on its own,
communities will have to contribute to the movement by simply being willing to install panels onto
their homes. An interesting approach to this takes place in Nelson, British Columbia called the
'Community Solar Garden'. A community solar garden is a centralized solar array installation where
members of the community can subscribe to buy a portion of the solar generation. Generation will
be sold on a per panel basis. The solar energy that is generated by the garden is credited to the
subscriber's electricity bills in proportion to their investment. (Community Solar Garden). If there
are incentives for people to add a feature to their house that will save them money, especially if
there is access to a community solar garden or farm, it is essentially a wider–scale individual level
approach to implementing the solution. Advantages to communities' solar panels is that the solar
energy is local. This will create local jobs and materials and are less likely to encounter community
opposition (as opposed to outside energy entities). Barriers, or disadvantages to community solar
energy is how little the demographic owns the solar panels they use locally. There are many laws
and regulations that make it

Solar Energy : A Waste Of Energy
What is the point of the sun? What do we even use the sun for? Is it just a waste of space? The sun is
actually one of the most important natural sources in our galaxy, the Milky Way. We use the sun's
radiation and heat rays and we wallow in the heat and sunlight, and because of the sun, we live. The
suns radiation helps trees grow because trees provide the oxygen we live. The sun is extremely
important. The sun is ninety–two point ninety–six miles away from us, and yet it still benefits us!
Besides being able to live because of the sun, is there anything else we can use the sun for?
According to "That's Solar Power" there is, "The sun is a natural resource. The sun's energy can be
used to power homes. That is good for the Earth. Fossil fuels are used to provide energy in most
homes. But the use of fossil fuels for energy can poison the Earth". Just like Abdul Kalam said, "If
you want to shine like a sun, first burn like a sun." Solar panels! Solar panels conserve energy
beyond compare. Today our o–zone atmosphere is deteriorating because of all of the gasoline and
fire that is dispersing through our Earth. If the gasoline we are using keeps on picking at our
atmosphere, it will break and all of our tree's oxygen (from the sun) will disappear out of our galaxy.
Soon, even the Sun won't be able to sustain us because of how sloppy we are conserving energy. But
if we have solar panels, the sun can sustain us and you could save Earth by using solar panels. And

Solar Energy And Solar Power
Introduction
Solar energy is defined as the transformation of the sun's rays into useful forms of energy, for
instance, electricity and heat. The capacity of solar radiation a place receives depends on a variety of
factors such as geographic location, time of day, season, and local weather. According to Knier
(n.d.) photo voltaic and concentrating solar power cells are the two forms of sources to produce
electricity. Photo voltaic cells generate electricity directly using solar cells and concentrated solar
power cells generate electricity using steam. According to The World Bank – for the past three
years, India has taken a enormous step in forwarding and in implementing the green growth agenda
by producing 2,000 MW of solar power at the world's cheap tariff. Solar power is likely to reduce
India's usage of imports of diesel and coal. A number of measurements are probably taking to
generate 20,000 MW of solar power in future by 2022. The Solar industry is likely to create 200–
400 jobs in the industries like research, development and installation, for every 10 MW of solar
power generated. Hence, the government of India had taken enormous steps to increase the
productivity of the solar energy. This research report will discuss the effectiveness and the
limitations of solar power in India

Expansion Of Solar Energy : Solar Power
EXPANSION OF SOLAR ENERGY
< Address>
ABSTRACT
Solar power has increasingly gained demand over the years. It is due to the rising energy
requirement by industries, and also population growth that energy requirements have increased as
years go by. However, the demand has brought the challenge of expanding the production of solar
energy. This paper focuses on how engineering concept of Lean can be used to bring efficiency in
the expansion of solar power production.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Solar power harness the sun 's energy to create electricity. Solar energy assets are enormous and
boundless, and they can be tackled anyplace that gets sunlight. The measure of solar radiation,
otherwise called insolation, coming to the earth 's surface consistently is more than all the energy at
present devoured by every single human activity yearly [1]. Various variables, including geographic
area, time of day, and current climate conditions, all influence the measure of energy that can engage
in for electricity creation or heating purposes.
Although solar energy is copiously accessible, it is likewise variable and discontinuous. Solar power
can 't produce electricity during the evening without capacity components, and is less powerful in
cloudy or overcast conditions. Hence, solar energy is frequently utilized as a part of conjunction
with the base–load era from coal, regular gas, atomic, and hydro wellsprings of power that can save
the period in times of irregularity.

Solar Energy : The Importance Of Solar Power
he popularity of solar power seems undiminished even after decades of its discovery. It was what
everybody was raving about in the 70's. The popular frenzy over solar power continued well into the
80's too. What is surprising to note is that solar power is still enjoying tremendous popularity even
today. So what makes solar power such a 'hot' idea (no pun intended) even after all these years? The
first, and clearly the most important reason, is economy. If you've ever wondered if there is such a
thing as free energy, well, solar power is the closest you can get. The sun is a massive storehouse of
abundant energy. Solar energy is virtually limitless. For millions of years, solar energy has
supported life on earth. And now, thanks to modern science and technology, the same energy will
help keep our homes warm and bright, especially during those cold winter days. This is the time
when alternative is going mainstream. At least, in the field of energy generation and commercial
power production. The need of the hour is to produce abundant quantity of 'green', renewable and
low–cost energy in order to stop putting excessive strain on or natural resources.
How can solar power help us?
That great ball of fire up in the sky that we call the sun is the ultimate source of much of the power
that is generated and used by man. Solar power is full of potential and has many benefits of which
some are obvious and a few others that are not so easily realized by us. In fact, the sun has

Solar Energy In California
Energy can be harnessed and produced through means of a lot of sources, some sources are more
efficient than others, while some sources give a higher quality of energy. Lots of factors go into the
kind of energy that would be optimal in producing the most efficient and cost effective type of
energy. What is it? Well, there's no definitive answer to that, but what we can do is figure out which
types of energy go well together and give the optimal energy production. In the sunny state of
California, with one of the highest populations in America it can be argued that bacterial and solar
energy would be the most efficient energy for this place. These two sources work hand in hand to

While the reliability of the bacterial energy can help the unreliability of the solar energy on dark

there wouldn't be enough energy to power a community in the case of solar ever being out for a long
period of time, while bacterial energy doesn't produce energy energy for it to be sustainable in a
community. However, solar energy can be stored and saved throughout a long period of time. With
the bacteria, energy producing somewhat sustainable amount of energy, having enough energy for a
community will not be a problem. The topic of alternative energy is important because it gives us
more options to provide sustainable, clean energy for our growing population today. With more
people inhabiting the earth, there will be more of a need for energy, but the energy has to be clean
and renewable so that humans and animals will not be harmed by their environment. Again,
bacterial and solar energy would work best in California because of its high efficiency while
working together, and cost

Energy Sources Of Solar Energy
The earth has lots of energy sources such as nuclear energy, fossil energy, and renewable sources.
Solar, wind, geothermal, and water are renewable sources of energy. These energy sources are clean.
They do not produce any pollution. But the most reliable energy source is the sun. The sun is an
important part of living things. It produces an energy called solar energy. Solar energy is the earth's
main source of energy which can be transformed into heat and electricity. Its energy was used to
heat and to light homes during the earliest centuries. Without the sun, living things on earth would
not surely survive because it would be extremely cold and dark. According to the article "Solar
Energy," every year the sun carries an average of 1.5 kilowatt–hours of energy to the earth in the
form of visible light, X–ray, ultraviolet, and infrared radiation (Solar Energy). Solar energy can be
converted into electricity in two ways. The first one is with the use of solar thermal or electric power
plants that creates power by concentrating the sun's energy to heat the liquid and produce steam
which is used to power a generator. (Solar Explained). This is mostly similar to coal and nuclear
power plant.
Another way is by using photovoltaic cells or solar cells that transform sunlight directly into
electricity (Solar Explained). In May 1954, photovoltaic cell, which is made out of a semiconductor
called silicon, was developed by three research scientists at Bell Telecommunication

Solar energy is energy that is produced by the sun in the form of heat and light ("Solar Energy").
Solar energy is said to be one of the most widely available sources of energy. Solar energy is also
said to be one of the best renewable energy sources to choose from. Solar energy is said to be the
greatest of all renewable energy sources because it is plentiful and, solar energy is free
economically. Solar energy scientifically can be used to convert the sun's energy into either heat
energy or the energy can be converted into electricity. If solar energy is converted to electricity, it
goes through either two processes. The first process is solar thermal energy. Solar thermal energy is
a form of energy in which the sun is used to produce heat, that then the energy can be used in a
variety of ways

Is solar energy good for us?
As we all know, fossil fuel energy comes from wood and some organic materials from millions
years ago. They experienced slow chemical process and became the coal and raw petroleum as we
see today. However, since the first industry revolution, the speed of mining fossil materials and
consuming all kinds of oil products has been accelerating in a geometric growth. People use coal to
generated trains, and they use fuel to generated the majority of their engines, which includes cars,
aircrafts, and heating machine. We have billions of people on earth right now, and everyone needs to
consume energy for transportation, lightning and many fields in various ways. Where do the energy
come from in the past three hundred years? Absolutely from the fossil material. But fossil energy is
not unlimited, it has a maximum. When we consume it till the edge, then we have nothing to
generate our machine. Luckily, solutions are always more than the problems. We create the way that
is called renewable energy. It helps us retrieve energy from nature, like solar, wind, and water. These
kinds of energy are unlimited, relatively, which means if the sun doesn't fall down, the oceans aren't
dry, we can get power from them. However, even though it has a bright future, we still have many
obstacles needed to be solved. (Hepbasli & Alsuhaibani 2011)

III. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF SOLAR ENERGY
A. Depending on their location, larger utility–scale solar facilities can raise concerns about land
Degradation and habitat loss. Total land area requirements varies depending on the technology, the
Topography of the site, and the intensity of the solar resource. Estimates for utility–scale PV
systems
range
From 3.5 to 10 acres per megawatt, while estimates for CSP facilities are between 4 and 16.5 acres

The Cost-Benefit Analysis of Solar Energy Essay
In recent decades, much debate has ensued about the vast amount of natural resources and
ecological services society depletes. Moreover, the debate has evaluated how society depletes these
natural resources at a faster rate than the environment can replenish. It also assesses how society can
mitigate these environmental issues in order to preserve our natural resources for the prosperity of
future generations. Research suggests that the natural resources we currently use, such as coal and
petroleum, could be fully depleted within the next 25 and 100 years respectively (Byrd, 2012).
Given that society has a tendency to over–consume natural resources, many economists have

However, the research has also suggested that solar technology has demonstrated an increase of
approximately 39% in production and investment in the last decade and is growing faster than any
other renewable technology (Zweibel, 2010; Lloyd & Forest, 2010). Still, the research concluded
that the limited availability of natural resources, which would be used to manufacture SETs, could
restrict the development of solar technology as well as other renewable resource technologies.
However, given that solar technology has seen an increase in research and development, solar
energy could establish an opportunity for expanding our electricity supply system without
overconsuming on nonrenewable resources.
With evaluating the increase in research and development for SETs, some economists believe that
solar energy is the most effective alternative energy resource available which can help provide many
more social, environmental, and economic advantages in comparison to the conventional energy
sources of coal and wood (Tsoutsos, Frantzeskaki, & Gekas, 2005). For instance, the social benefits
of solar energy can almost be considered as invaluable towards society's goal to preserve natural
resources for the prosperity of future generations. The main social benefits of SE include the
reduction in the emissions of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide and

Solar Energy May Save the Earth Abstract: The current energy situation with fossil fuels as the main
source of the world's energy has two main flaws: fossil fuels contribute to global warming via the
greenhouse effect and they are limited in the quantity that remains. Solar power solves both of these
problems and can be captured by utilizing photovoltaic cells. However, photovoltaic cells have their
own drawbacks due to their high costs of installation and maintenance. The world currently
functions through the use of fossil fuels. However, fossil fuels possess two significant
disadvantages. Fossil fuels harm the global environment because they enhance the greenhouse effect
by releasing carbon dioxide, and they release other harmful ... Show more content on

Large solar plants occupy a vast area of land and threaten wildlife because one square kilometer is
needed to produce 40 megawatts of energy from solar power.4 British scientists are attempting to
improve the effectiveness of photovoltaic cells by utilizing "copper indium diselenide and cadmium
telluride to find an affordable and more sustainable way to make solar panels to convert light energy
into electricity."5 Solar cells are also known as photovoltaic cells, which suggest that light energy is
being converted to electrical energy. Most photovoltaic cells consist of silicon in its crystalline
structure. In that structure, each silicon atom has four valence electrons, and each one bonds to an
adjacent electron. Silicon then is a poor conductor since electrons cannot move freely through the
substance, but the addition of impurities such as phosphorus, which is called doping, to the silicon
crystalline structure provide extra electrons called free carriers that can be knocked off the atom via
light energy.6 The section of the photovoltaic cell that is doped with phosphorus is called the N–type
because it has numerous negatively charged electrons flowing and creating a current. On the other
hand, the section of the photovoltaic cell that is doped with boron is called the P–type because boron
only has three valence electrons.7 When the N–type and

How does the sun's energy affect water?
The sun which is a star in the middle of our solar system. The Sun is the primary source of energy.
Solar energy is light and heat from the sun. Solar energy is important to renewable energy. The
diameter of the sun is 1.39 million kilometers. The Sun's mass mostly contains hydrogen and
helium.
The use of sunlight is to supply the needs of humans like energy is a primary source to survival on
earth. The sun's energy is able to feed animal need's. Only green plants are able to convert the
energy from the sun into fuel and food. Most of our food and fuel are made through the sun with a
process of photosynthesis.
In early experiments a man name Joseph Priestley study the rays of the sun's energy onto mercuric
oxide and collected gas that was making heat from the sun rays and the mercuric oxide. In 1954
there was a group named "Association for Applied Solar Energy" this group was made in Phoenix,
Arizona. This group publishes books about how students or people in general want to learn how the
sun's energy works. Most people go to this group for ideas to work on projects and other. The sun
energy could work in many different ways to the atmosphere or there's a purpose to why the sun

What do the bubonic plague in the 14th century, the influenza epidemic of the early 20th century
and the spread of HIV/AIDS in the late 20th and early 21st centuries have in common? One answer,
according to Joel B. Stronberg author of the American Solar Energy Society's "Common Sense," is
that they have all been called pandemics. According to Merriam–Webster.com, a pandemic occurs
over a wide geographic distribution and affects "an exceptionally high proportion of the population."

The potential of solar energy is tremendous. We should take advantage of this opportunity and make
solar energy usage more common!
Since solar radiation produces so much energy, why aren't we using a lot more of it? Solar energy
does have some disadvantages. One of the major problems with solar energy is the intermittent
speed at which it arrives at the Earth's surface. This causes problems with consistency when heating
or lighting. Another drawback to solar energy is that it requires great space to be gathered in
effective quantities. This makes it difficult to place the solar panels in areas where space is costly,
valuable, or unavailable. A final reason why we are not using solar energy is because it is quite
costly. According to JC Solar Homes, it would cost a homeowner roughly one hundred to two
hundred thousand dollars to convert his or her home to solar energy. Obviously, this is not realistic
or reasonable for most people; therefore, solar energy is often overlooked as a serious possibility for
solving our approaching energy pandemic.
There are different types of commonly used solar energy conversions. Photovoltaic energy is
commonly called solar cell energy. PV is a non–mechanical device that converts sunlight into
electricity. Solar thermal heat is being used in swimming pools, space heating and to heat water for
domesticated uses. Solar thermal power plants use sunlight to heat a liquid which turns into steam.

Solar energy is the most ancient kind of energy found on earth, for it is as old as the sun.
"Solar" means from the sun. The earth is only one of the many planets which is bathed
in the sun's overflowing energy. Every second the world receives 95.8 trillion watts of power...just
think about that for a minute. Think about how much power the earth just received in the time it
took you to read this sentence? It is well beyond the amount of power used in one day. It has the
potential to satisfy all our energy needs forever without ever having to use the pollutive fossil fuels

In the 1690's an Italian scientist invented a solar furnace that was so hot it could shatter a diamond,
one of the hardest substances on earth (Asimov 119).
The real question around the beginning of the 19th century concerning solar energy was
"could the sun produce electricity directly?" The main motivation behind this desire was
that electricity could be stored in a battery, and used later. It would not be necessary to use the
device in the sunlight. All inventions failed, until Frank Shuman, an engineer from Pennsylvania
finally made a breakthrough. He built an experimental plant that used black troughs covered in glass
with a few inches of water. When exposed to the sun, the water got very hot, causing it to circulate
and power an electric generator. His data was so convincing that he got financial backers and built
the world's first solar electric power plant in Egypt. However, the Eastern Sun Power Company went
out of business even though it was using free fuel. It didn't produce enough electricity for the area
that it used, 14,000 sq. ft of sun–collecting land (Zweibel 48).
In 1954 Bell Laboratories invented the first photovoltaic (or solar) cell, made from the semi–
conductor silicon, and other elements. It was the first way to convert sunlight directly into
electricity. When the space program was launched in the 60's, it

Renewable Energy And Solar Energy
There are many forms of renewable energy . Most of these renewable energies depend in one way or
another on sunlight. Wind and hydroelectric power are the direct result of differential heating of the
Earth 's surface which leads to air moving about (wind) and precipitation forming as the air is lifted.
Solar energy is the direct conversion of sunlight using panels or collectors. Biomass energy is stored
sunlight contained in plants. Other renewable energies that do not depend on sunlight are geothermal
energy, which is a result of radioactive decay in the crust combined with the original heat of
accreting the Earth, and tidal energy, which is a conversion of gravitational energy.
Solar. This form of energy relies on the nuclear fusion power from the core of the Sun. This energy
can be collected and converted in a few different ways. The range is from solar water heating with
solar collectors or attic cooling with solar attic fans for domestic use to the complex technologies of
direct conversion of sunlight to electrical energy using mirrors and boilers or photovoltaic cells.
Unfortunately these are currently insufficient to fully power our modern society.
Wind Power. The movement of the atmosphere is driven by differences of temperature at the Earth 's
surface due to varying temperatures of the Earth 's surface when lit by sunlight. Wind energy can be
used to pump water or generate electricity, but requires extensive areal coverage to produce
significant amounts of energy.

Preserving Our World with Solar Energy
Solar energy is a way to restore and preserve our world. How wonderful it would be to use the sun's
energy to heat and cool our homes, power out cars and run the electricity to light our houses. This
concept is getting closer to reality all the time. Solar energy is expensive on a large scale, but
running lights and small appliances are now inexpensive. Small calculators and lights that are solar
powered are accessable to everyone.
God commissioned his children to take care of the earth in Genesis 1:25–27. So far we have
managed to do more damage than good. "Environmental problems can be found in all areas of the

The Solar Of Solar Energy
The earth intercepts over 173 thousand terawatts of energy. Solar cells offer a means to harness this
energy by converting solar energy into electrical energy. While some may argue that solar energy is
an inconsistent energy source, research is being poured into creating more efficient solar cells so
that when light is incident on the solar cell, the solar cells operate at their highest possible efficiency
levels. Currently, the most efficient solar cells convert 34.5% of sunlight to energy. With innovations
like floating solar farms, such as the one pictured in Fig. 1 built in Tokyo Japan, and Tesla's new
solar roof, pictured in Fig. 2, the competitiveness and feasibility for solar energy continues to grow.
The question now becomes, can we power the world using solar energy? Figure 1. This floating
solar farm was built in Japan's YCamakura Dam reservoir near Tokyo. It can generate 15MW of
electricity, enough to power 4,700 households.

Another topic that DeBono talked about was the kind of electricity solar panels generate. "PV solar
panels generate direct current (DC) electricity. With DC electricity, electrons flow in one direction
around a circuit" (DeBono). One interesting fact that DeBono stated was "AC electricity was chosen
for the U.S. electrical power grid, primarily because it is less expensive to transmit over long
distances. However, solar panels create DC electricity. How do we get DC electricity into the AC
grid? We use an inverter" (DeBono). Since the United States uses alternating current electricity for
its electrical power grid, and solar panels generate direct current electricity. if we want to use the
energy that is generated by the panels, we would need to use a solar inverter to convert direct current
electricity into alternating current electricity.
Overall, the solar panel system functions when sunlight shines its energy on solar panels, which
would allow panels to generate direct current electricity, then the solar inverter comes into play, and
convert the direct current electricity into alternating current electricity. At this point, an individual
would be able to use the power that have been generated and converted, for their homes or
businesses. One of the biggest concern that people have regarding solar energy is that the initial cost
for solar panels are expensive, but what they do not know is that the cost for solar panel installation
have been dropping down, and it does not look like they will stop dropping down anytime soon.
According to Eric Wesoff and Stephen Lacey in their article, "Solar Costs Are Hitting Jaw–
Dropping Lows in Every Region of the World". "GTM Research expects a 27 percent drop in
average global project prices by 2022, or about 4.4 percent each year. Those improvements are not
limited to the U.S. They are occurring globally, and in some cases resulting in even sharper price
declines than those America is experiencing" (Wesoff and Lacey). This shows that many experts in
the field of solar power have come up with a conclusion, which is the price of cost to install solar
panel system will keep reducing all around the world. According to Sara Matasci in her article,

According to Source B, solar power is defined as the collection of solar radiation to produce
electricity. While the energy of the sun is free and abundant, debates have grown whether or not it
provides for our energy needs. Is solar energy clean or does it pollute our environment. Solar energy
is the answer to the Earth's energy needs for the future because, it will get cheaper, be more
efficient, and it produces no pollution during operation. First, solar power energy will soon be
cheaper. While others may say that the installation is expensive, will become cheaper throughout the
decades. Source C says that we will hit a peak in oil where we will start exporting as oil prices rise.

contained in the Word Energy Outlook, Energy Technology Perspectives and several IEA
Technology Roadmaps. It aims at offering an updated picture of current technology trends and
markets, as well as new analyses on how solar energy technologies for electricity, heat and fuels can
be used in the various energy consuming sectors, now and in the future. If effective support policies
are put in place in a wide number of countries during this decade, solar energy in its various forms –
solar heat, solar photovoltaics, solar thermal electricity, solar fuels – can make considerable
contributions to solving some of the most urgent problems the world now faces: climate change,
energy security, and universal access to modern energy services. Solar energy offers a clean,
climate–friendly, very abundant and inexhaustible energy resource to mankind, relatively well–
spread over the globe. Its availability is greater in warm and sunny countries – those countries that
will experience most of the world's population and economic growth over the next decades. They
will likely contain about 7 billion inhabitants by 2050 versus 2 billion in cold and temperate
countries (including most of Europe, Russia, and parts of China and the United States of America).

Our world has been in existence for billions of years and throughout all those years we have used
the sun for basic energy needs. So why not be able to harness that energy and use it to power things
like our homes or our cars? Many scientist have been developing alternate forms of energy called
"Green Energy." Green power is the solution to creating a cleaner, sustainable energy system.
Renewable energy––power from the sun, wind, plants, and moving water––is a natural way to meet
our energy needs and protect the environment. Here are some forms of green energy:
• Wind energy converts the power available in moving air into electricity. Wind power does not
produce air emissions, generate solid waste, or use water.
• Biomass is energy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
• the need for non polluting and silent sources of electricity; eg tourist sites, caravans and campers
• the need for a convenient and flexible source of small amounts of power; eg calculators, watches,
light meters and cameras;
• the need for renewable and sustainable power, as a means of reducing global warming.
Together, these needs have produced a growing market for photovoltaics which has stimulated
innovation. As the market has grown, the cost of cells and systems has declined, and new
applications have been discovered.
To fully understand how solar power energy is created we need to look at how silicon solar cells are
made by using either single crystal wafers, polycrystalline wafers or thin films.
Single crystal wafers are sliced, (approx. 1/3 to 1/2 of a millimeter thick), from a large single crystal
ingot which has been grown at around 1400 °C, which is a very expensive process. The silicon must
be of a very high purity and have a near perfect crystal structure.
Polycrystalline wafers are made by a casting process in which molten silicon is poured into a mould
and allowed to set. Then it is sliced into wafers. As polycrystalline wafers are made by casting they
are significantly cheaper to produce, but not as efficient as monocrystalline cells. The lower
efficiency is due to imperfections in the crystal structure resulting from the casting process.
Almost half the silicon is lost

Solar Energy Advantages
Solar energy is radiant light and heat from the Sun that is harnessed using a range of ever–evolving
technologies such as solar heating, photovoltaics, solar thermal energy, solar architecture, molten
salt power plants and artificial photosynthesis. It is an important source of renewable energy and its
technologies are broadly characterized as either passive solar or active solar depending on how they
capture and distribute solar energy or convert it into solar power. Active solar techniques include the
use of photovoltaic systems, concentrated solar power and solar water heating to harness the energy.
Passive solar techniques include orienting a building to the Sun, selecting materials with favorable
thermal mass or light–dispersing properties, and designing spaces that naturally circulate air. The
large magnitude of solar energy available makes it a highly appealing source of electricity. The
United Nations Development Programme in its 2000 World Energy Assessment found that the
annual potential of solar energy was 1,575–49,837 exajoules . This is several times larger than the
total world energy consumption, which was 559.8 EJ in 2012. In 2011, the International Energy
Agency said that "the development of affordable, inexhaustible and clean solar energy technologies
will have huge longer–term benefits. It will increase countries' energy security through reliance on
an indigenous, inexhaustible and mostly import–independent resource, enhance sustainability,

The sun is free for everybody to use. Irrespective of religion and nationality, the sun shines upon all
of us in all its glory. Since the very dawn of history, the sun has been showering its light and warmth
upon us. Thanks to modern science and technology, man now has the knowledge and know–how of
harnessing a part of the tremendous energy contained in the sun and pitting it to various uses.
Think about solar energy and the first image that springs to the mind is that of those arrays of shiny
photovoltaic panels adorning the rooftops and the countryside. Indeed, photovoltaic cells still remain
the most popular way of generating solar power. Solar power, for one thing, is not cheap. However,
even though the initial set up costs can be quite high, the long–term financial benefits of using solar
power are too strong to deny.
Solar power gives you a unique double–edged advantage. First, you can generate all the power that
you need with help pf a setup. Secondly, if you happen to generate power in excess of your actual
requirement, you can choose to sell it off to the local utility company or the grid at a profit through
what is known as the "Net–metering Scheme". It is really a very simple process that needs no raw
materials and has practically no running cost. Selling off surplus power seems like the only sensible
and smart choice because you cannot store this power for use on rainy days. If left unused, it will
usually go to waste. Therefore, the smart decision is to sell

The Future Potential of Solar Energy

 • 1. The Future Of Solar Energy Almost everywhere there is technology, and what does technology require? Energy. Such a simple answer, but where does it come from? That is a question many tend to overlook. There are many energy resources that are being harnessed in this modern age, all of which are truly interesting in their own special ways, but solar energy seems to stand out. The idea that mankind can concentrate the Sun's light and turn it into energy for personal use is very interesting. Although solar energy does have its drawbacks, its importance and potential should not be ignored. It has huge promise as developments are being made everyday. There is a chance that solar energy could very well be the solution to the current energy crisis that faces mankind. As time has passed, even over the past decade, its presence has increased. There are also many advantages of going solar, and because of its availability it is being harnessed in many different regions all around the world. From its primitive beginnings to now it has undergone many dramatic changes, and if it continues to evolve it may just make the future a brighter place. Society is too dependent on the fossil fuels. They have been used for hundreds of years and are still the major producers of energy. They include coal, oil, and natural gas. Except for a few exceptions society has been barreling forward and burning up the fossil fuels without stepping back and considering the consequences. Because of this the world is ... • 3. The Energy Of Solar Energy According to the National Institute for Energy Research and the U.S. Energy Information Administration, solar energy makes up only 0.5% of total energy consumption in the United States, and over 65% of consumed energy is natural gas and petroleum. (2016) These statistics show that nearly two–thirds of the energy the United States uses is not only non–renewable but the processess of harnessing it also causes pollution. Solar Energy is energy that is transferred through solar radiation in the form of electromagnetic energy. In the transference of solar radiation to Earth from the Sun, only one billionth of this energy arrives at Earth 's surface. A joule is the equivalence of one watt of power that is created through exertion for one second. One trillion watts of this generated energy is known as a terawatt. As Haugen and Musser (2012), examined types of alternative, renewable energy sources, they looked at hydro–power. They said that it, "is the most used renewable energy source used in the United States. It accounted for almost 80 percent of the renewable energy and 9 percent of the total electricity generated in the United States in 2008." This shows that solar is not the only option for renewable energy, nor is it the most used. Solar power, however, does not instigate change in the environment as hydro–power does. In order for many of the dams to be created to instigate the use of hydro–power, waterways have to be rerouted or otherwise altered from their natural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

 • 5. The Solar Of Solar Energy Introduction Photovoltaic Solar Energy Throughout history, mankind had always wonder the mysterious secrets of nature with an attempt to make a replica of its magnificent work. Solar photovoltaic energy is the process to convert sunlight into electrical power as energy; imitating the process of photosynthesis that plants create to survive. Photovoltaic energy is not something recently discovered, it actually goes over 160 years The basic science was first discovered in 1839 but the pace of advancement really accelerated in three major thrusts in the 20th century 2 .From the beginning of history in 1839 the french physicist Alexandre Edmond Becquerel conducting an experiment that discovered the light–electricity conversion and Edward Weston who created the first solar cell in 1888 to Albert Einstein paper on the photoelectric effect that things started to begin experimenting with solar cells to create solar energy. It was until 1954 that the commercial solar age began where Bell laboratories created the first Si solar cell achieving 6% of efficiency 2 and primary satellites were the first ones to test those cells. To fully understand the principles of Photovoltaic Energy we first need to learn how is sunlight converted into electrical energy. Photovoltaic cells or (PV) cells or solar cells convert the sunlight directly into electricity (DC). When the sun makes direct contact with the PV cell, the PV cell's semiconducting materials absorb the light energy and producing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The heat of fusion of sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate will also be calculated. Introduction Fossil fuels account for most of the energy used in the country. Petroleum, coal, and natural gas are not the only resources that we have. Problems arise from harming the sun's radiation. The threat of global warming is becoming more well known so scientists are trying to discover safer alternatives to fossil fuels for the environment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is the amount of heat required to change the state of matter of a substance from a solid to a liquid. When finding the average calculation that a household would need, 806.6 kg would be needed to supply a day's worth of energy. This is far too much and would take up so much space if every single person used this as their energy source. The first graph shows that the temperature changes as time increases. The second graph shows the tangent line that represents the heat of fusion. There are many errors that could have happened in this experiment. • 9. Solar Energy Disadvantages Now we will talk about the experiences of some developed countries in the exploitation of solar energy as renewable energy and their planes for development in this filed and the areas in which these countries planning to use the solar energy. (www.ezinearticles.com ) Germany Ten thousand megawatts: Germany is one of the most countries use of solar energy, and plans because the rate of use will be 100% by the year 2050. In view of the year 2009 alone, we find that Germany has installed 3,806 megawatts of solar power generators; any more than the full capacity of solar energy Spain, and nearly eight times what the United States has recently install it. (www.ezinearticles.com ) Spain 3 500 megawatts: for as long as Spain was the leader in the field of solar energy use in their capacity of 2008 amounted to the equivalent of Al2605 megawatts, but abandoned this position in favor of Germany, so the sharp decline in that year's event in 2009, where Spain is the time did not ride only 69 megawatts only. However, Spain is expected to return to the top spot this year. (www.ezinearticles.com ) Japan 2,700 MW: Maybe it is the sudden occupation of Japan to third place, but it plans to achieve an ambitious goal through access of 28 gaga watts by 2020 and 53 gaga watts by the year 2030. Note that Japan has in 2009 invested $ 9 billion for the program of solar energy is currently planning the government for the use of solar energy in 32 thousand schools. • 11. Solar Energy Essay Solar Energy Since the beginning of humanity, people have relied on the sun for their daily needs. Whether it is to grow the crops that they eat, dry clothes or warm their family, people have relied on the resource of the sun for sustainability. It was not until people started to get the idea of managing this energy source, that people were able to fully take advantage of the sun. In 1767, a Swiss scientist discovered a practical way to harness the energy of the sun. Horace de Saussure invented the "solar hot box," the first devise to attract and capture the energy capabilities of the sun. The main uses of this primitive solar box consisted of cooking food, distilling water and pumping water for irrigation. It was not until the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Among soaring prices and shortages in petroleum, the President encouraged citizens to take advantage of solar opportunities. He had solar panels installed in the White House, and offered numerous incentives to the American People who used solar heating. His encouragement was so successful that by the early 1980's, over one–hundred national solar–heating manufacturers and suppliers were in business. An additional boost for solar energy was the creation of the U.S. Department of Energy, and the Solar Energy Research Institute, soon to be known as National Renewable Energy Laboratory. These organizations increased knowledge and practicality of solar power usage, and kept it in the minds of the U.S. government. Because of them, the first solar power plant, Luz International, was built in 1985. This plant was responsible for huge cuts in the expense of solar power. However, after less than a decade, the plant substantially lost its practicality. Critics site a stabilization of natural gas and electricity costs, high operating and maintenance costs for the solar plant, and expiring tax incentives as main reasons for Luz International's downfall. While solar power is one of the cleanest, environmentally friendly ways of producing energy, its popularity has rapidly declined, especially in the United States. Currently, solar power is an excellent supplement to other sources of energy, and has been rumored to eventually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

 • 13. Solar Power And Solar Energy Solar energy is capable of providing a cleaner energy than most forms of energy generation, and solar energy is able to be generated economically. Solar energy reduces the amount of harm to the environment from energy generation, by providing a cleaner alternative. Solar energy also provides jobs for construction and installation of solar powered technologies. The cost of installing solar panels can vary greatly, but its long term benefits outweigh the costs. Typically a solar panel system is a three kilowatts to eight kilowatts system that cost fifteen thousand to forty thousand dollars to install, total cost depends on circumstances of installation. However tax credits and incentives help recoup a portion of the cost in the first year, the savings of electricity cost makes installing the system profitable in under 10 years (Maehlum). Purchasing the system requires a large loan, however paying the loan can be substantially better than paying utility bills when the investment will eventually be paid for. If the system is large enough to handle the requirements of the household, the only payment for electricity will be the cost of the loan. Making loan payments instead of paying utility bills is predictable, and any excess energy will be used as a credit for months were the owner 's energy use may exceed the generated amount. Within10 years of financing the solar panels, the cost of the solar panels will already made up by the cost savings from not paying for utility ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

 • 15. Passive Solar Power : The Use Of Solar Energy Solar power is the energy that is retrieved from the sun that is transformed into thermal or electrical energy. It is known to being one of the cleanest and abundant renewable energy source available. Solar energy can be utilized in many forms for instance, photovoltaics (known as solar electric) solar heating and cooling concentrating solar power (typically built at utility scale), and passive solar. (About Solar Energy. n.d.). Two most common ways solar energy is adapted into being useful are first in the form of passive solar energy which refers to controlling the sun's energy without the use of mechanical devices. Passive solar is applied in three ways passive solar cooling which minimizes the impact the summer sun has on a home. By positioning your home and landscape it can help benefit of cooling breezes. Passive solar heating which insulates a home to minimize heat loss. By positioning your home in a way that most of the windows are facing the south and insulating your home to minimize heat loss. Daylighting brings natural light which illuminates the home in helping to reduce costs. (Passive Solar Energy – Naturally Heat, Cool, & Light Your Home. n.d.). Active solar energy is a cost–effective way for homeowners by gathering and using energy from the sun for their solar heating needs. Active solar is used in solar heating which uses different systems to distribute heat throughout your home. By using fans, pumps, and blowers that help collect, store, and distribute ... • 17. The Benefits Of Solar Energy Solar energy is defined as "power obtained by harnessing the energy of the sun's rays." (Dictionary.com, 2017) People have been using the sun for thousands of years for warmth, growing food, drying out food and clothes. Using solar energy in public schools could benefit all of the society with the creation of more clean energy and be able to stretch the use of nonrenewable resources. According to National Center for Education Statistics, there are 98,328 public schools in America. (Statistics, 2016) This number is rising increasingly which means we need more energy to keep these schools heated in the winters, cooled in the summers, and lit with lights. In the united states, 68% of the electricity used is from nonrenewable fossil fuels. When converting these fossil fuels to electricity they produce harmful substances including carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxides. These substances are hazardous to human health, causes acid rain, and contributes to global warming. If the public schools in America transitioned to the solar energy it would lower the cost of utility bills on the school districts, it would increase the educational opportunities for the students, and it would positively impact the preservation of Earth. The main reason to switch public schools to solar energy is for the long–term financial benefits. It takes a lot of money to run a school district, especially in larger cities. They manufactured cylindrical shaped solar panels, and they were unequaled in the business, the corporation as well offers an assortment of additional solar merchandises, most solar engineering corporations use flat plates and was labeled as old–fashioned compared to the Solyndra's PV Solar structure. Consumers preferred the solar merchandises of the Solyndra since they integrated the latest innovative technology at a lower cost and were more proficient. The examination to this day has predominantly concentrated on DOE's management process with status to a Five– hundred and thirty–five million dollar loan guarantee allotted to Solyndra Inc. (Solyndra). In 2009, the loan was rearranged due to the corporation's unfortunate financial position. During this examination, the Committee has been directed by a guileless determination; which is to conclude whether the department of Energy (DOE) and other Executive agencies who revised the Solyndra guarantee loan, directed an appropriate and sufficient investigates prior to their agreeing and consequently rearranging the loan. Solar cells were discovered by the Europeans back in the 1870's when they used selenium to develop the telegraph. They found that when light hits selenium it would produce and electrical current. Soon enough there were many scientists and engineers working on photovoltaic systems. Silicon and Selenium proved to be the two best elements to conduct electricity when light hits them. Photovoltaic systems (PV cell) work by converting the suns light into electricity. A semi conducting material absorbs the sunlight, that energy knocks electrons loose from their atoms, this allows the electrons to flow through the material to produce electricity. The further development of solar cells can be attributed to the satellite industry. Solar cells were expensive and there was no use for them until satellites came. Because it is impractical to tether satellites it became important to develop solar energy at any cost that would power these satellites. This created a sustainable market for solar power, the first of its kind. Passive solar heating designs are some of the simplest forms of incorporating solar energy into your daily home life. • 23. Solar Energy : Solving The Problem Of Solar Energy The Sun's energy overpowers all of the energy sources made on Earth. Even though only a fraction of the Sun's energy makes it to Earth, it is still ten–thousand times more powerful than the energy sources on Earth. However, we are unable to harness such energy because of the many breaches we have to past through to achieve solar energy. As well, solar energy lacks certain aspects causing fossil fuels to be valued more. Although, by creating engineering advancements to improve the efficiency, expenditure, and availability of solar energy, the problem of solar energy usage will be resolved. Solar energy has been already efficient with the environment; however, in order to solve this problem, we need to improve its efficiency with energy. In order for solar energy to be considered energy efficient today, we have to make the proportion of kilowatt hours produced over cost needed for it less than the proportion of this to fossil fuels. For example, in order to produce 1 kilowatt–hour or 3.6 megajoules with solar energy, we need 50 cents. However, in order to produce 1 kilowatt–hour with coal, we only need about 3 cents. Over the years, we have decreased the price little by little to now 18–30 cents, but this still cannot compete with fossil fuels that are all less than 10 cents. In order to solve this problem, we would need to improve the amount of energy received from the solar cells. We could achieve this by finding alternative materials to use on the cells to ... Powering a home by converting sunlight into usable energy to power the house and being off–grid. Electricity is usually made by burning coal, oil or gas and to use these resources a lot of money is being used (Bbc.co.uk, 2017). Approximately 173000000000000000 terawatts are given off by the sun which is 10 times more power than what people already use thus using the free energy would be the wiser option (Sapowernetworks.com.au, n.d.). Some positives are it will save a lot of money, producing less pollution and it is also renewable. The negatives are solar panels are not efficient due to several reasons and these system are expensive. The central theme is to explore if solar panels can power an entire house which is off–grid. To elaborate, powering from solar panels saves a lot of money for the homeowners. As solar panels power the home, homeowners would use the electricity been generated from the solar panels and not from their electricity providers. Secondly, the excess amount of power which was not used is bought by the electricity companies in form of solar feed–in tariff. Lastly, solar panels even raise the value of the house. Not to mention concern about climate change have made this resource prevalent to individuals looking to lower their carbon footprint. Installing solar panels can decrease a household's carbon footprint by an average of 35,180 pounds of carbon dioxide per year (Tusher, Christine, 2014). Solar panels got their start in the 1950s. They are what produce solar electricity by using photovoltaic (PV) cells, meaning they are batteries that harness sunlight, transform it into energy, then send the energy to an inverter, which in turn converts the energy into electricity. Not many address the economic point of view in regards to solar energy, and how it will compete with electricity generated by fossil fuels. In order for the solar industry to stand on its own, communities will have to contribute to the movement by simply being willing to install panels onto their homes. An interesting approach to this takes place in Nelson, British Columbia called the 'Community Solar Garden'. A community solar garden is a centralized solar array installation where members of the community can subscribe to buy a portion of the solar generation. Generation will be sold on a per panel basis. The solar energy that is generated by the garden is credited to the subscriber's electricity bills in proportion to their investment. (Community Solar Garden). If there are incentives for people to add a feature to their house that will save them money, especially if there is access to a community solar garden or farm, it is essentially a wider–scale individual level approach to implementing the solution. Advantages to communities' solar panels is that the solar energy is local. This will create local jobs and materials and are less likely to encounter community opposition (as opposed to outside energy entities). Barriers, or disadvantages to community solar energy is how little the demographic owns the solar panels they use locally. There are many laws and regulations that make it ... • 29. Solar Energy : A Waste Of Energy What is the point of the sun? What do we even use the sun for? Is it just a waste of space? The sun is actually one of the most important natural sources in our galaxy, the Milky Way. We use the sun's radiation and heat rays and we wallow in the heat and sunlight, and because of the sun, we live. The suns radiation helps trees grow because trees provide the oxygen we live. The sun is extremely important. The sun is ninety–two point ninety–six miles away from us, and yet it still benefits us! Besides being able to live because of the sun, is there anything else we can use the sun for? According to "That's Solar Power" there is, "The sun is a natural resource. The sun's energy can be used to power homes. That is good for the Earth. Fossil fuels are used to provide energy in most homes. But the use of fossil fuels for energy can poison the Earth". Just like Abdul Kalam said, "If you want to shine like a sun, first burn like a sun." Solar panels! Solar panels conserve energy beyond compare. Today our o–zone atmosphere is deteriorating because of all of the gasoline and fire that is dispersing through our Earth. If the gasoline we are using keeps on picking at our atmosphere, it will break and all of our tree's oxygen (from the sun) will disappear out of our galaxy. • 33. Expansion Of Solar Energy : Solar Power EXPANSION OF SOLAR ENERGY < Address> ABSTRACT Solar power has increasingly gained demand over the years. It is due to the rising energy requirement by industries, and also population growth that energy requirements have increased as years go by. However, the demand has brought the challenge of expanding the production of solar energy. This paper focuses on how engineering concept of Lean can be used to bring efficiency in the expansion of solar power production. BACKGROUND INFORMATION Solar power harness the sun 's energy to create electricity. Solar energy assets are enormous and boundless, and they can be tackled anyplace that gets sunlight. The measure of solar radiation, otherwise called insolation, coming to the earth 's surface consistently is more than all the energy at present devoured by every single human activity yearly [1]. Various variables, including geographic area, time of day, and current climate conditions, all influence the measure of energy that can engage in for electricity creation or heating purposes. Although solar energy is copiously accessible, it is likewise variable and discontinuous. Solar power can 't produce electricity during the evening without capacity components, and is less powerful in cloudy or overcast conditions. Hence, solar energy is frequently utilized as a part of conjunction with the base–load era from coal, regular gas, atomic, and hydro wellsprings of power that can save the period in times of irregularity. • 35. Solar Energy : The Importance Of Solar Power he popularity of solar power seems undiminished even after decades of its discovery. It was what everybody was raving about in the 70's. The popular frenzy over solar power continued well into the 80's too. What is surprising to note is that solar power is still enjoying tremendous popularity even today. So what makes solar power such a 'hot' idea (no pun intended) even after all these years? The first, and clearly the most important reason, is economy. If you've ever wondered if there is such a thing as free energy, well, solar power is the closest you can get. The sun is a massive storehouse of abundant energy. Solar energy is virtually limitless. For millions of years, solar energy has supported life on earth. And now, thanks to modern science and technology, the same energy will help keep our homes warm and bright, especially during those cold winter days. This is the time when alternative is going mainstream. At least, in the field of energy generation and commercial power production. The need of the hour is to produce abundant quantity of 'green', renewable and low–cost energy in order to stop putting excessive strain on or natural resources. How can solar power help us? That great ball of fire up in the sky that we call the sun is the ultimate source of much of the power that is generated and used by man. Solar, wind, geothermal, and water are renewable sources of energy. These energy sources are clean. They do not produce any pollution. But the most reliable energy source is the sun. The sun is an important part of living things. It produces an energy called solar energy. Solar energy is the earth's main source of energy which can be transformed into heat and electricity. Its energy was used to heat and to light homes during the earliest centuries. Without the sun, living things on earth would not surely survive because it would be extremely cold and dark. According to the article "Solar Energy," every year the sun carries an average of 1.5 kilowatt–hours of energy to the earth in the form of visible light, X–ray, ultraviolet, and infrared radiation (Solar Energy). Solar energy can be converted into electricity in two ways. The first one is with the use of solar thermal or electric power plants that creates power by concentrating the sun's energy to heat the liquid and produce steam which is used to power a generator. (Solar Explained). This is mostly similar to coal and nuclear power plant. Another way is by using photovoltaic cells or solar cells that transform sunlight directly into electricity (Solar Explained). This causes problems with consistency when heating or lighting. Another drawback to solar energy is that it requires great space to be gathered in effective quantities. This makes it difficult to place the solar panels in areas where space is costly, valuable, or unavailable. A final reason why we are not using solar energy is because it is quite costly. According to JC Solar Homes, it would cost a homeowner roughly one hundred to two hundred thousand dollars to convert his or her home to solar energy. Obviously, this is not realistic or reasonable for most people; therefore, solar energy is often overlooked as a serious possibility for solving our approaching energy pandemic. The question now becomes, can we power the world using solar energy? Figure 1. This floating solar farm was built in Japan's YCamakura Dam reservoir near Tokyo. It can generate 15MW of electricity, enough to power 4,700 households. https://www.greentechmedia.com/articles/read/japan–to–build–worlds–biggest–floating–solar–farm Solar cells are commonly made from silicon. Silicon is the 2nd most abundant material on earth and it has four valence electrons in its outer shell. The solar cell is created by starting with intrinsic silicon. The intrinsic silicon is doped with boron atoms, for example, to create the p–type layer. Boron has three atoms in its outer shell and therefore produces a free hole. The free hole is then able to move around the silicon lattice. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

 • 64. Solar Energy Essay Another topic that DeBono talked about was the kind of electricity solar panels generate. "PV solar panels generate direct current (DC) electricity. With DC electricity, electrons flow in one direction around a circuit" (DeBono). One interesting fact that DeBono stated was "AC electricity was chosen for the U.S. electrical power grid, primarily because it is less expensive to transmit over long distances. However, solar panels create DC electricity. How do we get DC electricity into the AC grid? We use an inverter" (DeBono). Since the United States uses alternating current electricity for its electrical power grid, and solar panels generate direct current electricity. if we want to use the energy that is generated by the panels, we would need to use a solar inverter to convert direct current electricity into alternating current electricity. Overall, the solar panel system functions when sunlight shines its energy on solar panels, which would allow panels to generate direct current electricity, then the solar inverter comes into play, and convert the direct current electricity into alternating current electricity. At this point, an individual would be able to use the power that have been generated and converted, for their homes or businesses. One of the biggest concern that people have regarding solar energy is that the initial cost for solar panels are expensive, but what they do not know is that the cost for solar panel installation have been dropping down, and it does not look like they will stop dropping down anytime soon. According to Eric Wesoff and Stephen Lacey in their article, "Solar Costs Are Hitting Jaw– Dropping Lows in Every Region of the World". "GTM Research expects a 27 percent drop in average global project prices by 2022, or about 4.4 percent each year. Those improvements are not limited to the U.S. They are occurring globally, and in some cases resulting in even sharper price declines than those America is experiencing" (Wesoff and Lacey). This shows that many experts in the field of solar power have come up with a conclusion, which is the price of cost to install solar panel system will keep reducing all around the world. According to Sara Matasci in her article, "2017 Average Cost of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Energy Of Solar Energy 19 Executive Summary This publication builds upon past analyses of solar energy deployment contained in the Word Energy Outlook, Energy Technology Perspectives and several IEA Technology Roadmaps. It aims at offering an updated picture of current technology trends and markets, as well as new analyses on how solar energy technologies for electricity, heat and fuels can be used in the various energy consuming sectors, now and in the future. If effective support policies are put in place in a wide number of countries during this decade, solar energy in its various forms – solar heat, solar photovoltaics, solar thermal electricity, solar fuels – can make considerable contributions to solving some of the most urgent problems the world now faces: climate change, energy security, and universal access to modern energy services. Solar energy offers a clean, climate–friendly, very abundant and inexhaustible energy resource to mankind, relatively well– spread over the globe. Its availability is greater in warm and sunny countries – those countries that will experience most of the world's population and economic growth over the next decades. They will likely contain about 7 billion inhabitants by 2050 versus 2 billion in cold and temperate countries (including most of Europe, Russia, and parts of China and the United States of America). The costs of solar energy have been falling rapidly and are entering new areas of competitiveness. Solar thermal electricity (STE) and solar photovoltaic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

 • 72. Solar Energy Our world has been in existence for billions of years and throughout all those years we have used the sun for basic energy needs. So why not be able to harness that energy and use it to power things like our homes or our cars? Many scientist have been developing alternate forms of energy called "Green Energy." Green power is the solution to creating a cleaner, sustainable energy system. Renewable energy––power from the sun, wind, plants, and moving water––is a natural way to meet our energy needs and protect the environment. Here are some forms of green energy: • Wind energy converts the power available in moving air into electricity. Wind power does not produce air emissions, generate solid waste, or use water. • Biomass is energy ... Together, these needs have produced a growing market for photovoltaics which has stimulated innovation. As the market has grown, the cost of cells and systems has declined, and new applications have been discovered. To fully understand how solar power energy is created we need to look at how silicon solar cells are made by using either single crystal wafers, polycrystalline wafers or thin films. Single crystal wafers are sliced, (approx. 1/3 to 1/2 of a millimeter thick), from a large single crystal ingot which has been grown at around 1400 °C, which is a very expensive process. The silicon must be of a very high purity and have a near perfect crystal structure. Polycrystalline wafers are made by a casting process in which molten silicon is poured into a mould and allowed to set. Then it is sliced into wafers. As polycrystalline wafers are made by casting they are significantly cheaper to produce, but not as efficient as monocrystalline cells. The lower efficiency is due to imperfections in the crystal structure resulting from the casting process. Almost half the silicon is lost

 • 75. Solar Energy Advantages Solar energy is radiant light and heat from the Sun that is harnessed using a range of ever–evolving technologies such as solar heating, photovoltaics, solar thermal energy, solar architecture, molten salt power plants and artificial photosynthesis. It is an important source of renewable energy and its technologies are broadly characterized as either passive solar or active solar depending on how they capture and distribute solar energy or convert it into solar power. Active solar techniques include the use of photovoltaic systems, concentrated solar power and solar water heating to harness the energy. Passive solar techniques include orienting a building to the Sun, selecting materials with favorable thermal mass or light–dispersing properties, and designing spaces that naturally circulate air. The large magnitude of solar energy available makes it a highly appealing source of electricity. The United Nations Development Programme in its 2000 World Energy Assessment found that the annual potential of solar energy was 1,575–49,837 exajoules . This is several times larger than the total world energy consumption, which was 559.8 EJ in 2012. In 2011, the International Energy Agency said that "the development of affordable, inexhaustible and clean solar energy technologies will have huge longer–term benefits. It will increase countries' energy security through reliance on an indigenous, inexhaustible and mostly import–independent resource, enhance sustainability, reduce ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

 • 80. Solar Energy Essay The sun is free for everybody to use. Irrespective of religion and nationality, the sun shines upon all of us in all its glory. Since the very dawn of history, the sun has been showering its light and warmth upon us. Thanks to modern science and technology, man now has the knowledge and know–how of harnessing a part of the tremendous energy contained in the sun and pitting it to various uses. Think about solar energy and the first image that springs to the mind is that of those arrays of shiny photovoltaic panels adorning the rooftops and the countryside. Indeed, photovoltaic cells still remain the most popular way of generating solar power. Solar power, for one thing, is not cheap. However, even though the initial set up costs can be quite high, the long–term financial benefits of using solar power are too strong to deny. Solar power gives you a unique double–edged advantage. First, you can generate all the power that you need with help pf a setup. Secondly, if you happen to generate power in excess of your actual requirement, you can choose to sell it off to the local utility company or the grid at a profit through what is known as the "Net–metering Scheme". It is really a very simple process that needs no raw materials and has practically no running cost. Selling off surplus power seems like the only sensible and smart choice because you cannot store this power for use on rainy days. If left unused, it will usually go to waste. Therefore, the smart decision is to sell ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
