Evaluation question 2
1. Question 2
How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
Kaitlyn Bodham
2. The genre of my magazine is punk-rock and so it represents the same
social group. To meet the standards of this group, I have included
bands and artists that create music of the punk-rock genre. These
include all of the artists on the front cover and contents page. The
model in my dominant images represents this social group well as she
is in their age group, which is typically teenagers and young adults. She
also has blue hair and a facial piercing, which further represents the
stereotypes of the punk-rock genre and its social standards. Another
stereotype of this particular social group is that they are believed to be
particularly pessimistic, often described as moody. In an attempt to
portray this, my model is looking away from he camera and wearing
dark clothing. The costume choice further represents this social group
as they are stereotypically portrayed wearing dark colours, which often
contrast with brightly coloured hair.
