3. How are they represented?
TEENAGERS
Young music fans are being represented
in a positive light as my music magazine
depicts young people as being productive
and finding ways to break into the music
industry. There is evidence for this, as on
the cover a teenage girl is shown and the
cover story explains how she is ‘the
hottest new woman on the Ska scene.’
4. YOUNG WOMEN
It could be said that my magazine is
representing young women in a negative
way due to the fact that the artist shown
on the cover and in the double page
spread is clearly being portrayed as fairly
anarchic and rebellious. This is something
that is likely to appeal to the target
audience of the magazine however may
be off putting for older audiences.
5. How does this compare with
stereotypical representations?
Stereotypically, young people are often viewed by
older generations as being out of control, committing
crime and doing very little with there lives.
Therefore, some of the images shown in my magazine
would be challenging this view as the young people in
my magazine are being productive.
However, in other ways, the images used for my
double page spread and cover live up to this
negative, stereotypical view due to the rebellious
nature of the photographs of my artist and the fact that
her name is ‘Hooligan’ which has negative
connotations of someone who is not a law abider.
