2. A number of magazines brands were
analysed in order to gain an
understanding of the audience of
acoustic music and how different
publications cater to this in order to
gain popularity and interest.
Artists that feature on acoustic
magazines are normally white, British
or American, toned bodies, and
heterosexual, with males often
dominating the limelight. This has
become the stereotypical image of this
genre of music. No excessive makeup,
clothing, or accessories are featured.
Acoustic music, therefore, gives of a
very natural vibe, often reflected in the
music in which there are very few
artificial sounds.
Classes vary between working, middle,
and upper class giving this genre of
music a wide variety of audiences.
Although not obvious in the informal
design of most acoustic publications,
this seems to be the case after
reviewing secondary research.
3. Acoustic music attracts a wide range of audiences. Its crossovers with
other genres add to the ever-growing interest in this style of music. There
are many sub styles of acoustic music as well, all of which attract their
own individual audience. The most common social classes within this
genre are middle and working class. This is probably due to the relaxed,
but varied, natures of acoustic music. The age range also varies: the
majority of readers being between 25 and 30 (the survey results do not
reflect this, however they are biased so are therefore not accurate or
reliable). This genre is contained to mostly ‘Weston’ countries.
This audience has been represented through the type of language used.
No complicated or special word were integrated and the way in which the
language was used is quite basic and light hearted. This gives a more
upbeat atmosphere, reflecting the music. These decisions were chosen
because they were the most common in this genre.
4. The images in this magazine vary but
mostly contain a model. The unique
location of most of the images is
intended to be eye catching and
outstanding. The model is mostly in eye
line with the camera, giving a more
natural feel to the images. Additionally,
the colours in these images are quite
soft, common within this genre.
Juxtaposing this is the bold black and
white theme that runs throughout the
magazine. A guitar prop features in
almost all of the images. This is used to
help identify the magazine as acoustic,
but also to match with what is
conventional of this genre. There was no
specific costume choice apart from the
limitations of nothing extreme, such as
extravagant makeup, dyed hair and
piecing’s, as these are unconventional
of this genre.
