2. Introduction
In this PowerPoint I researched and recorded codes
and conventions of existing country music
magazines. I also researched further into Maverick
front covers and what was similar with the
magazine images. I looked at Maverick’s target
audience and began to make notes on the target
audience of my country music magazine. Lastly I
researched into country singers. In the UK there is a
large gap with country music as it is not commonly
promoted or shared with magazines like it is in
American and I am determined to fill that gap with
my music magazine.
4. Codes and Conventions
• The background is usually plain or outdoors.
• The singer is the main focus
• Not a large amount of writing on the covers
• The barcode is in the bottom left
• Cover model is blonde
• Costume can be expensive dress/black trousers and bright
top/ denim
• There is usually a guitar/microphone/ cowboy hat/
• The main sell line is in the centre/side of the magazine in a
bright bold colour
• Colours: black, white, pink (main sell line/title), red (main
sell line/title), gold/brown
5. Research of Maverick Music
Magazines
Most of the magazines are American. I want to create a country music magazine for
the UK. Country music has always been seen as a western, American style of
music. Everyone around the world will have listened to some form of country
music due to the Hannah Montana movie which stared Billy Ray Cyrus a famous
country singer along side his daughter Miley Cyrus, throughout the movie there is
country music being performed and promoted. It brought a new love to country
music as it shows the background behind country singer Miley Cyrus.
There are many country singers who are known of in the UK, however are not
generally shown in the music magazines. Singers like Carrie Underwood, Kelly
Clarkson, Miranda Lambert and Taylor Swift are a few popular country singers who
many young teenagers know. By creating my magazine I will be able to showcase
their talents and help to expand their audiences.
Maverick is the biggest country music magazine in the UK.
