TARGET AUDIENCE
Coldplay- Head Full of Dreams
AGE
• Pop music is a mainstream genre aimed to interest the younger
generation. It follows trends and patterns of recent times. It is a
popular genre to please teenagers and young adults. The typical age
range of this audience would be 16-25, however due to its popularity
many more people outside this age category listen to this music.
GENDER
• It is seen that the pop music genre is most suited to females. Young
girls can look up to and aspire to female artists and girl groups. They
can follow their styles and trends and follow the ‘popular’ fashion.
Also, this female audience is drawn to male artists too in a way that
they think they are attractive and good looking. For example, clothing
trends have changed over time. Whilst the Spice Girls were most
popular, teenage girls used to follow their fashion and wear spaghetti
strap tank tops and mini skirts. Now, where the most popular girl
band would be Little Mix, the target audience are wearing hot pants
and low cut tops. Male pop stars also have large amounts of female
fans, for example, Justin Bieber. Many girls fan over his looks, many of
his CD covers, posters, autobiographies have his face on.
CLASS
• Working Class are the class associated with listening to pop music.
This is due to the age and occupation of the target audience. Due to
the majority of listeners being students and only having part time jobs
(suggesting not much money) it would suggest that they are part of
the working class.
OCCUPATION
• Due to the younger generation target audience, most of those who
fan over pop music tend to be students with part time jobs.
SEXUALITY
• Pop music has never been known to discriminate any kind of sexuality
with its music. It is very open to all sexualities and many pop stars
have been gay such as Elton John. On the other hand, music videos
have failed to be as progressive with their content. Most pop music
videos have been very conservative with their content. Love songs
and love music videos involve heterosexual couples. Here is one
example I found which includes a homosexual couple amongst
hundreds of pop music videos that include heterosexual couples.

LOCATION
• Pop music originated from America and is now very popular in Britain.
Pop music is aimed to please American/British audience, this is
proven in the majority of pop music videos and artists. Most artists
and those who star in music videos are white American or Britain's.
HOBBIES
• Age and gender is taken into consideration when working out the
hobbies and interests of those who are interested in pop music. The
young generation who are filled with energy are likely to be going to
concerts and dancing to their pop idols music. Therefore, pop artists
may consider doing tours and concerts with their upbeat music to
please their target audience.
• As well as enjoying pop music, the young generation are known to
spend a lot of time online on social media. Facebook, Twitter,
Instagram. Artists may consider putting themselves on social media
due to their target audience.
