3. Age
• The age range for our film was quite wide (17-50) so was difficult to
use specific ideas to appeal to such a vast age range. We felt that
some of the complex elements of our film (such as the distortion
between reality and what’s not) may appeal to older sides of our
audience. But the dark, grittiness of our film may appeal to younger
people who are more film-enthused than most people of this age
range.
• Elements such as the stresses of work may also appeal to the older
ages of our range as they are relatable issues
4. Gender
• Our film was aimed at both males and females and there was no
prejudice towards either gender. We didn’t include any demeaning,
specific stereotypes of either gender that may discourage viewers.
• The main character being male may have had slightly more appeal
to males as oppose to females but this really isn’t a factor we used to
address our audience
• It’s more of what we didn’t do than what we did do to address the
gender of the audience. We didn’t include anything that may be
considered sexist towards either gender and didn’t use any
specifically gender related themes.
5. Religion/ethnicity
• Similarly to gender, there were no specified religions or ethnic
backgrounds mentioned in our film.
• We chose not make our film intentionally offensive towards any
religion but some may be discouraged by the explicit themes, mainly
drugs.
• Both characters seen in the first two minutes are both white, British
people; this is not exploited or acknowledged in any way so, again,
there’s no ethnically specific elements; this should help appeal to
wide ethnic audience and may not discourage any religions.
6. People who are suffering or have suffered
from drug abuse
• We felt that our film could appeal to people who have experienced
problems with drugs. In order to appeal to these audience members
we tried to ensure that any characters taking drugs were not poorly
represented or shown in an untrue way
People who are suffering or have suffered
from mental illnesses
• As we did with characters consuming drugs, we aimed to give a
sound representation of characters suffering from mental problems.
• We also used no named health conditions so as not to, again, poorly
represent people suffering from specific conditions.
7. Media consumption of audience
• Our film was aimed mainly at people who enjoyed psychological
thrillers, as that is our chosen genre for our film.
• To address this audience we included common conventions of the
genre. We researched into similar films and picked up on certain
conventions we found were often present in psychological thrillers
• We used hallucinations; an element very frequently found in this
genre in films such as Donnie Darko and Jacob’s Ladder
