Spilt Avocado Painting Analysis
The recreation of The Spilt Avocado Painting I viewed online is what I chose to recreate because the
image captured my eye due to the shadows that appear from the top light within the painting. While
looking at the painting you can see yourself staring in the direction the reflecting shadows from the
top light. The sources of the light coming from the left of the avocado forces the shadow to overlap
on top of the other slice, which ultimately draws the observer's attention to the colour of the
avocado. Although you might notice the colour of the avocado at first, the shadows indicate a
calming mood due to the placement of the light. Additionally, the shadow is showing the direction of
light, which is coming from which effects the shade of green the avocado might appear. This ...

Having to use an actual avocado to model and remake of this painting had its challenges. In
addition, I also did not have a blue surface to lay the avocados on to capture the same light reflection
off the wall. However, I did manage to capture most of the paintings elements in my picture
recreation by the placement of my desk lamp and by having my picture based on a white sheet of
paper. I used a desk lamp to be able to recreate the painting light sources through the direction I
placed the light to create the same shadows from the painting. The challenging part about using a
desk lamp was trying to figure out the right distance I needed to direct the light at the avocados to
achieve the same shadows. In addition, to the challenging things with the process of remaking the
painting was to attain the same position of the avocado to be able to capture the right colour
intensity that displays the right distribution of the avocado. Lastly, from all obstacles I was faced
with while recreating The Split Avocado Painting was not being able to find a blue surface to
achieve the right calming

Poetry : Are The Arts Of Painting And Poetry
Are the arts of painting and poetry comparable? It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words,
but can a painting truly be represented in written form? The Modernist poets William Carlos
Williams and W.H. Auden use every grammatical tool and trick of form available to them to do just
that. Williams wrote the poem "Landscape with the Fall of Icarus" which makes a clear allusion in
the first line to a painting with the same name by Brueghel the Elder. Similarly, W.H. Auden also
wrote a poem called "Musée des Beaux Arts" which depicts the same painting, as well as others by
Brueghel, and expands upon a possible theme of the painting. That theme would be the indifference
of nature and the rest of the world to an individual's suffering. Before both Williams and Auden,
Brueghel the Elder was a famous artist from the Flemish Renaissance who focused on landscape and
genre paintings. Brueghel was responsible for the paintings Landscape with the Fall of Icarus, The
Census at Bethlehem, and The Massacre of the Innocents. Using evidence from the text of both
Modernists' poems, parallels and similarity of styles can be drawn between Landscape with the Fall
of Icarus and the poems. In the case of Auden's "Musée des Beaux Arts", similarities can also be
pointed out between the other two of the aforementioned Brueghel works.
Williams recreates many traits of the original Brueghel painting, Landscape with the Fall of Icarus.
Williams uses even the title of the poem, as well as

Paintings of the Old Masters
Look at the color red, a color known for its beauty and while it may not be in everybody's catalogue
of beauty, it cannot be denied of its intensity. If one is showed a stunning painting of a red rose, one
of the descriptions that could apply to that paining is beauty: seeing such an elegant spectacle of
nature being emulated on paper can be quite stimulating. Another description that could be
associated with a red rose is passion, as such a color may leave one energized and spontaneous;
however how would one respond if they were told that the painting of the rose was painted with
blood. Now a painting that once may have suggested the aspects of beauty and passion, may stir
descriptions such as fear, aggression, danger and yet passion as well; therefore, bringing one to the
understanding that "Every image embodies a way of seeing" (Berger, 142). This is why paintings
should be viewed as a spectacle; hence, this brings me to the painting I was presented with by John
Berger in his book Ways of seeing in which he argues how through reproduction the modern context
of the Old Masters' paintings severed them from what they meant in the time of their production.
The painting that demanded my attention was Wheatfield with Crows by Van Gogh, something that
may seem simple at first but is rich with emotion. Through such a work of art I've come to
understand that paintings are a medium where an artist can illustrate his words/feelings and express

Cimabue Painting The Madonna Enthroned
Through society had used art as a consideration for their religious beliefs and educated morals the
panting Madonna Enthroned has a traditional Christian subject, representing the Virgin Mary and
the Christ Child seated on her lap. This large painting is an extremely important landmark in art
history. Cimabue's painting of the Madonna Enthroned shows strong Byzantine Influence. The
throne is elaborate with no visible back support, and instead seems to rise upward denying the
material reality of it is weight. Furthermore, the Christ child is depicted with the proportions and
gestures of a man. The iconography is frequent in medieval painting and represents the Madonna

Kehinde Wiley: Painting Analysis
The first work of art, illustrated by Kehinde Wiley, appears to give a realistic feel to the audience.
As the painting of the man, the horse, and the sword appears as neither abstract, nor nonobjective. I
can see that the painting is oil on canvas. In the background of his painting, it is dark red at the top,
and pink towards the middle of the background, with a shade of white just above the neutral scheme
of different brown shades representing the muddy ground. The white in the background probably
represents the horizon. If you zoom in very, very closely, you can see what looks like a military
cannon towards the right side of the painting, emphasizing the environment of a battle soldier. The
horse is painted neutrally as well, white, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I gather that the idea of this piece is to display a majestic image of a black male in a heroic pose.
Practically as a mockery of those who reserve these type of images only for white historical figures,
he introduced an urban male character instead, which was game changing. The portrait is very
unique, and its explosive imagery is what makes it fascinating and well–illustrated. It obviously has
a meaning to it, and is derived from a historical painting from hundreds of years ago. This painting
includes the concept of taking a historical theme, and replacing the character of the painting with an
African American man that relates to the title of the painting, which is slightly altered. I did a little
research into the title, Officer of the Hussars, and these officers were originally Hungarian, and from
the fourteenth century whom are noted as horse riding men fighting in battle, in other words a
Cavalry soldier. In Wiley's painting, there is an African American man on a horse, urbanely dressed
in brown boots, loosely fitted jeans, and a white tank top. In a closer look, you can also see a
shagged purple shirt over his tank top. He is also holding a sword, which further emphasizes the

Comparing Three Paintings
Sometimes in life, beauty appears only to those who seek it out. That is because we must learn to
recognize that beauty comes in many different forms and sometimes with greatly varying
characteristics. Because one thing is beautiful, it does not mean that something different can't be
equally so. The 3 paintings discussed in the following paragraphs, are a great example of this
concept.
"Large Bathers", is widely considered to be one of his Paul Cezanne's finest, if not his finest, work.
Looking at the brilliant color, the depiction of the structure of the figures, the attention to
composition and the creation of implied spatial depth, it is not hard to see how Cezanne came to
influence a number of prominent artists in his own day, as well as of the next generation. There is a
certain monumental permanence and timelessness that one doesn't really find with the
impressionist's more casual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Understanding the similarities and differences between the two works, one can by extension
understand how cubism took influence from post–impressionism, as well as what new elements it
brought to the table. The setting and mood are very similar, as is the sense of timelessness and the
focus on structure and forms. In Picasso's work, however, the form is further broken down into more
basic geometric shapes and they are set against a two–dimensional plane, in stark contrast to the
spatial depth that Cezanne featured ("Pablo Picasso's Cubism Period", n.d.).
Picasso's work is more monochromatic, as opposed to the brilliant colors of Cezanne's work. In it's
time, his work greatly challenged the traditional concept of subdued feminine beauty. It also
presents the influence of African art on Picasso. The Girls of Avignon is widely considered to be the
finest and most quintessential example of cubism in its heyday ("Pablo Picasso's Cubism Period",

Personal Statement: Painting Analysis
Painting has been a coping mechanism to handle the stress from the arduous amount of work I
experienced in school since I was young. However, I was frustrated when painting because I could
not sketch desired shapes due to my disability, but I still wanted to paint. Since I took an elective
computer course, I was thoroughly amazed by the abilities that a computer is capable of. When I
realized that there was a computer application for painting and marveled at what the application can
do to ease my frustration, I began to develop curiosity about computer functions and mechanisms.
Because of this, I am determined to further my education and ultimately become a computer
programmer who is eager to incorporate the arts and use of logic in unique computer applications by
using my programming and leadership skills. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was fascinating that with the painting application, I could use the same tools to paint whereas
canvas paintings takes hours to paint. Therefore, by using unique painting applications, I can
improve my creativity and productivity in art. In community college, I was intrigued by how
computer science revolves around math and design. For example, when I took a Visual Basic course,
I was introduced how to design a graphical user interface that interacts with the user and produce
calculations as a back–end programmer. Moreover, I was fascinated because, as I advanced to the
first series of Java course, I found that it took perseverance to understand the viewpoint of an end
user to utilize Java programming language in order to execute the proper functionality of technology

The Relationship Between Persian Painting And Chinese...
1. Introduction
Kamāl al–Dīn Behzād (c.1450–c.1535), who served royal princes of Timurid (1370–1507) and
Safavid (1501–1736) dynasties, is one of the famous painters in Islamic world. Historical records
and paintings related to him are so numerous. From the beginning of 20th century, art historians
challenged again and again to define the style of his paintings and to attribute the non–signed works
to him. However, the characteristics thought as Bihzād style are vague, so the re–examination of his
style is needed. In this essay, I would like to re–examine what is called "Bihzād style", by
comparing the Persian painting with Chinese painting.

However, this is not true, because as mentioned above, the taste for Chinese landscape motifs was
already seen in the 13th century. It would be more appropriate to see the works of Bihzād's figural
paintings rather than landscape paintings to define the Bihzād style. According to the one of the
contemporary historical records, Bābor–nāma, Bābor wrote Bihzād was good at portraits of beard
man. The statement by Bābor means people who lived in the same period thought Bihzād's strong
point was drawing figures. Figure 1 is the portrait of Dervish, which is attributed to Bihzād. The
brush work is similar to the techniques of Chinese nail head–rat tail (釘頭鼠尾in Chinese) (see fig
2). Compared to classical style of Persian painting (see fig 3), the depiction of hairs, mustaches and
beard are so fine. The shadowing and the realistic depiction of ears, nose and mouth are also rarely
seen in the classical Persian painting. The Chinese derived features of this painting (fig 1) mean, in
this period, Persian painters imitated the works of Chinese paintings. And by doing so, they
gradually introduced some traces of Chinese painting techniques to Persian painting. The influence
of Chinese painting had great impact before the Timurid dynasties, but according Sugimura, Persian
painters started to borrowing the physiognomy for the first time in this period. From his indication
and the comparison between Bihzād practice drawing (fig 1) and Chinese painting (fig 2), Bihzād
style could be defined by the depiction of figures rather than landscape painting

Analyzing The Painting 'Baptism Of Pocahontas'
The painting, "Baptism of Pocahontas" was commissioned in 1837. John Gadsby Chapman installed
the painting in November of 1840. This painting was created during a time when the United States
was forcefully expanding westward and had implemented a policy to remove the Indian tribes off
their lands. One example of incorporating religious content and context includes Chapman's focus
on the religious ceremony of baptism. This inclusion illustrates the belief among white Americans of
this period that Native Americans could be integrated into the white civilization. Pocahontas'
choosing to receive baptism exemplified the promises of this assimilation. Although the painting
depicts Pocahontas' noble acceptance of English religion and culture,

Mannerist Paintings
Paintings from the High Renaissance and Mannerist Period Mannerism emerged and rejected the
classical Greco–Roman art in the 1520s, which constituted to the Renaissance era. The Mannerist
works challenged the Renaissance style and the interest in human anatomy, perspective, and
proportion (Kleiner 600). In contrast to the Late Renaissance painters where they were inclined to
create naturalistic art, Mannerist painters honed in creating art that was unrealistic by portraying
ambiguous space, unusual presentations of traditional themes, and removing the limitations of
expected conventions (Kleiner 643). The Venetian representative of Mannerism is Jacopo Robusti
(Kleiner 636). He is known as Tintoretto, and one of his most famous paintings is Last Supper.
Another great Venetian master was Paolo Caliari of Verona (Kleiner 637). He is known as Paolo
Veronese, and he painted Christ in the House of Levi. It is beneficial to one's knowledge in
understanding the similarities and differences in size, content, composition and form of these two
paintings. Furthermore, it is fascinating how these two works reflect and how they were influenced
by their time and culture; moreover, one is able to perceive the era in which the two paintings were
created. In regards to size and content, Tintoretto's Last Supper and Veronese's Christ in the House
of Levi share quite a few similarities. Both of these paintings were painted on huge canvases. Last
Supper measures at 12' x 18' 8'', and Christ in

Landscape Painting : Landscape, Landscapes, And Paintings
Landscape painting has been developed and pursued by many over the centuries. Think back to the
dawn of civilization, cavemen were painting murals upon the cave walls of the nature that
surrounding him and the animals that habituated. The term "landscape" derives from the Dutch word
landschap, which originally meant "region, tract of land" but acquired the artistic connotation, "a
picture depicting scenery on land" in the early 1500s (American Heritage Dictionary, 2000).
All my life, I have lived in small town by the name of Banta. It has the population of roughly 3,000
individuals, making it an extremely small town. I am not even to sure I can technically call it a town
its filled with farm houses and crop fields, rolling hills and trees galore. Banta, Indiana. As it is only
a half–hour drive away. There are many things that make this landscape unique; that let me know
that it is "home." These range from the shape of the land itself to the architecture of houses. One
way that I know when I am home is when I am in "my hills," as I selfishly call them. They might not
be much more than foothills, but it is significant enough for me to notice a vast flatness when
traveling. Indiana's climate can also help make it identifiable. It falls into a humid continental
region, resulting in it having both long, hot summers and freezing winters with snowfall. It also has
a moderate amount of rainfall. Due to this, Indiana has rather diverse weather patterns. Sometimes
the weather can

Comparing Velazquez And Picasso's Paintings
Velazquez and Picasso made two similar painting's, both named las meninas. Both of the painting's
represent a princess being helped by her maids or helpers. While Picasso's was very abstract,
Velazquez's was very realistic. While Picasso's painting focused more on the princess, Velazquez's
painting focused more on the maids/helpers.
Picasso's painting is the thought of the first paragraph. Picasso was a very abstract artist. He almost
made his painting's with stain glass. In the painting he made he made the princess very big and
beautiful. The maid stood by making her look beautiful. I think Picasso was portraying that real
beauty comes from the ones you least expect. Although the princess was, well a princess, she could
only become beautiful with the help of her maids, if her maids weren't there then she wouldn't be
pretty. Although her maids aren't pretty that doesn't mean that true beauty comes from the outside,
and that's what I think picasso was trying to portray. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

There is also a dog and many maids surrounding the dog and bowing to the princess. While the

The Work And Paintings Of Jacob Lawrence
For my research paper, I will be studying the work and paintings of Jacob Lawrence. Jacob
Lawrence was an American painter and was very highly commended African–American artist of the
20 century. What he is best known for is his Migration Series. He was born in Atlantic City, New
Jersey on September 7, 1917. When he was the age of two his mother deposited him and his two
younger siblings in foster care in Philadelphia after his parents divorced. When he was thirteen he
went to work in New York City and there he went to join his mother. He also spent fifteen years
teaching as a professor at the University of Washington. Lawrence was also widely known for
producing narrative collections such as the Migration Series and War Series. Shortly after Lawrence
had arrived there, he was introduced to art when his mother had enrolled him in Utopia Children's
Center, which then had an after school art program. At the age of 16 he dropped out of school and
took classes at the Harlem Art Workshop where it was taught by Charles Ashton and he very often
visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In 1937, he won a scholarship to the American Artist
School in New York. When he graduated in 1939 he had received funding from the Works Progress
Administration Federal Art Project. By that time, he had already established his own type of
modernism and that is then when he began to create his narrative series; where he would paint about
30 paintings or more for that one subject. In 1941, he had

Campin's Painting Comparison
Both paintings focus around the same subject, Mary receiveing the news that she will be carrying

that Mary and Gabriel are almost life size. In comparison, Campin's painting is a triptych that is
small and a portable oil painting. This portability brings us into a new era, where people want this
type of art in their homes versus only being able to view them in a church. The left panel allows us
to see the donors being nosey, the middle panel is the scene of the annunciation, and the right panel
gives us a look at Joseph working. Both paintings have reflective qualities. In Angelico's painting

Angelico keeps his painting very simplistic with no flash or Christian symbolism in it. Many think
that it is because of the location of the painting in a church. The area surrounding Gabriel and Mary
is bare and flat. The focus is strictly on Mary and Garbriel who are technically to large spacially.
They would not be able to move around in the area because of their size. Campin has created a piece
that is full of Christian symbolism. The flowers on the table, the tools that Joseph uses, and baby
Jesus floating in on sun rays heading toward Mary's womb are just a few examples. While Angelico
kept his background simple and plan, Campin uses a background that makes the painting relatable
for the viewer of that time. Campin uses a home that would have been modern and pays specific
details to the surroundings. The textures and amount of detail that Campin puts into his painting

wooden pieces in Joseph's shop all show us the texture of the material. It almost makes you want to

Los Angeles County Museum of Art

In addition, this painting includes a lot of texture. This painting is well done, that you can see that

Also the scenery is so realistic, that it feels as if you are in the painting and you can actually touch
the leaves on the tree, the water from the spring, the baby angles, and the rocks.
Furthermore, this artwork also has rhythm, a sense of continuance and a feeling of movement by the
colors and the diagonal position of the bodies. There are many aspects that makes this artwork well
balance. One is that there is balance between light to dark. For example, the figures are lighter than
the background. Secondly, there is a good balance between large and small objects. The large and

Good Crop Painting Analysis
The painting Good Crop was done by Clarence Holbrook Carter in 1942. He used an oil based
medium on a canvas that was forty–eight inches by twenty–eight inches. This painting is from the
era of war and rationed goods. The idea for this painting originated from his neighbor Jim Jennings,
a farmer from down the road. He made the painting from just one basket of potatoes. Most of
Carters painting were based off of memories from his childhood. While looking at Good Crop, your
eyes are drawn to the first bucket of potatoes sitting on a wagon. From there your eyes bounce back

If we look at the painting we will see that Carter used a variety of different shapes. He uses both
organic and geometric shapes. The organic shapes can be seen in the potatoes, bushes and horses.
We see the geometric shapes when we analyze the circular buckets that have rectangular handles.
The potatoes are unified together by the buckets, in which they are placed. From there we will
notice that the painting is asymmetrically balanced. Carter placed the farmer, the buckets of
potatoes, wagon and white horse on the left side. On the right is the dark brown horse and meadow.
To balance the painting out carter used an implied line, by having the farmer look off to his right.
This is an implied line because our eyes want to draw a connecting the drivers eyes to the far right
of the painting. This implied line adds weight to the right side. Using this implied line we can also
note that Carter used directional forces in this painting. Carter had the farmer look off to his right,
which pulls our eyes to the right. Therefore, creating directional forces. He also uses one–point
linear perspective. As we look at the painting our eyes start at the bottom of the painting, where the

Paintings In Medieval China
Paintings in medieval China included landscape painting, delicacy painting, spontaneous painting,
figures and illustration along with calligraphy. The landscape paintings are wordless poems that are
meant to be read from bottom to top, often representing the harmony between heaven and earth, yin

meaning. Landscape painting also features mountains in the middle and background and water

The subjects of these paintings are symbolic: flowers are passive and represent the female;
butterflies and birds are aggressive and represent the male; cranes represent longevity; ducks
represent marriage; and the Phoenix and dragon represent the concept of yin and yang, the
relationship between male and female. Spontaneous painting was the most important in Medieval
Chinese painting tradition. These paintings were a scholarly and religious activity, an act of
meditation meant to help a scholar work through a religious or philosophical idea. These paintings
may also feature ink paintings with calligraphic lines; simple scenes presented in an abstract style
such as flowers, birds, trees or bamboo. The figures and illustration paintings had subjects outlined
in ink and filled with color, they had very little in the way of background and were very flat. Often
these were portraits of important people or illustrations of religious or secular texts or stories.

Residential Paintings
As a homeowner there is nothing more exciting than the idea of painting your home yourself. A
fresh coat of paint makes everything look so much better right? You can choose colors for the inside
or the outside and just get to work! Maybe you will even use a paint sprayer because they look like
they get the job done fast!
Are you out of your mind? Have you thought about the work involved, especially if you are
considering doing your own exterior painting? All of the scraping and cleaning that needs to be
done, the preparation for laying on a new coat of paint and the small repairs that are going to be
inevitable are going to be your job. If you have experience, and time then go ahead and jump right
in there and get that job done. If you don't have any experience it might be time to think about

A reputable painting company should be able to provide these.
Find out if they are experienced with house painting. Residential painting is very different from
commercial. If you need interior painting, make sure to specify. Talk to people who have had similar
jobs done for them. This is a great way to find a good painting service.
Ask for what materials and paint they are using. Make sure everything is quality. Quality lasts
longer and always makes for a much better finished product no matter what the painters skill.
Ask about a warranty! These are worth the money as they often deal with touch ups and other paint
issues inside and outside of your home. This can save you a lot of stress in the future.
If you have any other concerns such as environmental friendliness then it is up to you to ask
pertinent questions. You are the customer, and you are inquiring about purchasing their services
which should be reputable and consistent. Ask for a list of the products they plan to use on your

Painting Comparison Essay
In both art and science, the uses of color tend to play a role in how temperature is perceived. For art
blues can be perceived as cooler colors, while reds are perceived as warmer colors. But, while in
science the color order is in reverse, reds are perceived as cooler colors, while blues are perceived as
warmer colors. In this paper two different paintings will be discussed to see just how distinct colors
are used to perceive temperature.
The first painting that will be discussed is The Houses of Parliament from Westminster
Bridge by artist Andre Derain. Andre Derain was an artist that was a part of the Fauvism artistic
movement. Fauvism artist emphasized intense colors over the representational and realistic values
retained by artist of impressionism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The subject matter of romantic painters included landscapes, religion, revolution, and
Woodburn 2 peaceful beauty. On the night of October 16, 1934, fire consumed the House of
Parliament in
London, and Turner decide to capture this event in his own view, and use the painting to represent
man's helplessness when confronted with the destructive powers of nature. In Turner's painting of
The Burning Houses of Lords and Commons, Turner shows just how important the right colors can
be to give a painting a certain feeling. The yellow and orange colors that are used draw the focus to
the center of the painting and this is Parliament on fire. The dark and dreary shades of the blues, and
grays give the painting a sad and depressed feeling. Which is good because it helps to represent the
message that Turner was trying to convey that man is helpless when confronted with the destruction
of nature.
From both of these paintings we can see how color can be used to represent different temperatures.
In Andre Derain's painting The Houses of Parliament from Westminster Bridge, the different
temperature of colors is used to give the feeling of brightness, warmth, and life.

The Gross Clinic Painting Analysis
In this essay I will be depicting and comparing two of the most well–known anatomical paintings of
all time. The first painting is The Gross Clinic by Thomas Eakins an oil painting canvas from 1875
drew in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The second painting is The Anatomy Lesson by Rembrandt is
also an oil painting canvas but drew in 1632 the Dutch Baroque era. Both paintings depict surgeons
at work dissecting features of dead bodies for experimental studies for groups of fellow surgeons
and students.
Among some of the most famous paintings of the Dutch Baroque era, The Anatomy Lesson of Dr.
Tulp was Rembrandt's first large picture and the work where he consolidated his reputation on
moving to Amsterdam from Leiden in 1631. The Anatomy Lesson ... Show more content on

In this painting the bright red blood colors from the surgeon's fingers and scalpel, and the gruesome
fresh incision is fascinating, as well as repulsive, and confusing since it is so hard to read the
detailed position of the patient's body. Never the less some viewers admired Eakins's precision of
detailed composition, color, and praised his convincing creation space as well as form, although
many were revoked by what was considered inartistic and horribly disgusting realism. Where as in
The Anatomy Lesson it has been pointed out several times that this painting does not actually depict
the dissection taking place in real life. There are many details that point this out. For one in the
scene there does not seem to be a crowd in the anatomy theater as we would normally see in a real
depiction. The second point is that in all of Amsterdam anatomy lessons there is an abundance of the
lack of instruments for the dissection taken place, also there is an absence of the preparator who has
the task of preparing the body for the lesson that will be taking place. This was considered to be a
low end and bloody task, which Dr. Tulp would not be expected to take care of. Finally the
dissection itself is very unrealistic in which this is before any available preservation methods for the
dead, the abdomen, which were most perishable

The Painting Essay
The Painting
"A picture can paint a thousand words." I found the one picture in my mind that does paint a
thousand words and more. It was a couple of weeks ago when I saw this picture in the writing
center; the writing center is part of State College. The beautiful colors caught my eye. I was so
enchanted by the painting, I lost the group I was with. When I heard about the observation essay,
where we have to write about a person or thing in the city that catches your eye. I knew right away
that I wanted to write about the painting. I don't know why, but I felt that the painting was
describing the way I felt at that moment.
When I first looked at the picture, it looked like there were only two colors green and blue. When I
got closer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The grass was spread out through the whole painting. If you looked hard enough you can see
flowers of pink and red growing within the grass. There were spots of yellow in the grass making
the grass look as though it was dying. Then the painting had a patch of grass that had a very vibrant
shade of green, that made the grass look so alive. The grass had a willowy quality that may have
suggested that there may have been a breeze.
The river also suggested a breeze, there were ripples that flowed southeast. There were many
different shades of blue in the lake and river. The lake had a darker shade of light blue surrounded
by a dark blue then lined with black. The lake appeared to have a light shining either on top or the
bottom of it, which allowed you to see the grass growing under it. The river had a lighter shade of
light blue with white lines to show the ripples but it was surrounded with the same colors as the
lake. You did not see any grass growing under the river because there was no light shining on the
river.
When I saw the painting for the first time it grabbed my attention. At first I thought it was the
beautiful colors that attracted me to the painting, but it was more. In the picture the shadowy men
look scared. They looked as though they were trying to run away from something and this lake that
forms into this river that is surrounded by tall grass is the way out, or at least a place to hide until the
coast is clear. During that time in my life I felt

Western Painting
Many people say that arts come from life. Whatever you face in your daily experience, all of them
would become the source, the inspiration, the soul of the artwork. In this essay,I would like to focus
on the paintings form of art. How do the paintings reflect the attitude of the artists? How do the
paintings reflect the philosophy and value of the world? No matter you are eastern or western
people, paintings are just not about the skills, but they also convey the feelings of the artists.
Needless to say, there is still a great divergence of traditional Chinese painting and Western painting.
Generally speaking, Chinese painters love to use realistic techniques to express unrealistic things
and their feelings in addition to the fact that they want ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So I would combine them together as to compare with Chinese painting style more sophisticatedly.
Abstract expressionism is the pioneer of western abstract painting style. It was to use exaggerating
brushwork to express emotions, so it is similar to Xieyi. However, the level of thinking may be quite
different. Most of the artists would like to express their personal feelings like happiness, sadness
rather than national feelings by using objects.(Seitz,1983) By contrast, Color–field painting was the
development of Abstract expressionism and the purpose was similar in addition to the fact that
background was tremendously crucial. (Wilkin,2007) The only difference is that the subject matter
in color–field painting is the color, the object is not necssarily important.(Artstory foundation)
Willem De Kooning represented the Abstract expressionism while Kenneth Noland represented the
color–field painting.Willem De Kooning was the prominent Abstract expressionism painters and
urgely objected to the restrictions imposed by naming movements. He said "I'm not interested in
'abstracting' or taking things out or reducing painting to design, form, line, and color. I paint this
way because I can keep putting more things in it – drama, anger, pain, love, a figure, a horse, my
ideas about space. Through your eyes it again becomes an emotion or idea."(Artstory foundation). It
means he like the freedom of painting to tell people his emotions. Some of the famous paintings
were the women features. In the other way, Kenneth Noland was an significant painter who insisted
on producing his paintings in soak–stain technique. He focused on the choice of color, to determine
how the background integrated with the subject to become a full subject.(Webb,2011)I will use each
one of the paintings for the two style to illustrate its difference and the value

Paintings: Painting Analysis
In this painting a group of men appear to be lost at sea. The sky and waves indicate that they are in
the middle of a storm; in addition, the wooden raft looks as though it has endured a lot of hardship
during the course of their journey. The men are piled up on top of each other in a shape of a pyramid.
Some of the men are clothed while others are either halfway clothed or not clothed at all. There are
approximately five men dead on this raft and others trying to look for help. At the top of the pyramid
two men are holding up shirts trying the gain the attention of something in the background. In doing
this all their backs are facing the viewer of the painting except for an older man slouching over a
dead crew member. This painter used organic shapes to create a more realistic piece. The boat uses
straight lines to create a square shape. The colors in this painting are mostly warm. Red is used to
create emphasis and a contrast with the gloomy colors. The dark values are more towards the center
and the top right corner of the canvas. The painter unified this painting by making man touch
another man in some way or form. There is an asymmetrical balance in this painting and movement

The Art Of Paintings
The goal of my creative project was to create various splatter paint works that each represented a
key human emotion. I settled on just three and I chose joy, anxiousness, and depression. I bought
three 8 by 10 inches blank canvases to do my work on, paint, and an assortment of brushes. Before I
started I looked up a video on different splatter paint techniques, and I became interested in adding
some texture to my artwork, so the first painting I worked on, representing joy, I added some
saltwater to it and actual grains of salt. I really wanted this artwork to stand out from the other two,
because of how different this emotion is. The canvas has a yellow background, because I wanted all

with a splatter painting. No matter what you do, it is going to be interesting in way, because no one

I really enjoyed splatter painting, it was an enjoyable way of just showing my creativity and letting
my mind flow. I think it would be even better to do this with a friend rather than just by yourself,
and next time I will mix other paint colors to create more interesting colors. The creation showed me
that I'm capable of doing at least one thing that is artistic, before I would say that I couldn't even
draw a straight line correctly. These three artworks are important to me, because I have never
created art that I am proud of, this is the first time that has ever happened. I am satisfied with my
result, I expressed everything in the way I imagines it. I'm not sure that people could just as readily
recognize what emotions each canvas represents, but that doesn't bother me, I'd rather just get some
type of reaction out of them than nothing.
I do consider the part of my brain that comes out with ideas to be creative, but there are times that I
can't just make my own idea, I need inspiration from many diverse sources first. I do think my
artwork shows imagination, because I

realism shown in the groin wrinkle, the crow's feet wrinkles at the right armpit, the lines in her neck,
the pendant breasts, and the recognizably feminine abdomen (Image 200). Even so, Artemisia
depicts the female form as more muscular and toned than the female bodies seen in most
contemporaneous works by male artists. Though Susanna is seated, she is resisting the advances of
the elders, and a cry is coming from her open mouth illustrating her alarm. Her shame of being
naked in front of the elders is palpable in her downcast eyes and the flush on her cheeks. Artemisia

Lucretia is about to kill herself to spare her family the dishonor of her rape. Artemisia portrays
Lucretia as a common woman rather than an idealized figure from classical antiquity. Lucretia's
physical flaws and emotional vulnerability are apparent. The influence of Caravaggio is now
obvious in Artemisia's work through the close–focused composition of the singular figure, Lucretia,
emerging from a dark background, harshly illuminated in typical tenebrist manner that creates a
dramatic impact as Artemisia halts Lucretia's hand in action grasping the dagger, blade upward and
not aimed directly at her breast, while her other hand clutches her breast in a moment of conflict as
she struggles for the courage to complete the act (Garrard, Image 115). Also, as typical of
Caravaggio, Artemisia portrays a single moment of narrative with a heightened sense of suspense
and drama (Mann, 100). Artemisia depicts Lucretia seated in a contrapposto or counter pose and
Lucretia's leg forms the base of a conventional Renaissance pyramid with her head at its apex. In art,
contrapposto describes a figure that stands (or in this case sits) with one leg holding the full weight
of the body, while the other leg is relaxed. This classical pose rests the hips and shoulders at
opposite angles and gives a slight curve to the

Edward Hopper's Painting: Summertime 1943, Oil Painting
Edward Hopper
Title of Painting: Summertime 1943, oil paint
I see: The scene presents a young maid dressed in white comming outside a large white building.
The background is dominated by white walls with brick texture and two windows (one opened). The
characteristics of this artwork is incredible contrast between black and white, the shadows are strong
and blacks (inside the building) are deep. The lines are straight and shading is strong and directional.
The subject matters the most. The dominant colours used are whites and blacks. Light saturation is
very strong but is balanced with dark areas. The predominant mood is feeling of anticipation. The
girls looks far away, her chin raised and eyes looking, waiting.
I think: Edward Hopper's techniques were relatively simple. He painted directly, brusquely, focusing
on covering what he wants to say through the scene. In Hopper's style the subject which is conveyed
matters rather than a way in which it was conveyed (which mainly matters in Matisse's style).
Personally I think that the way in which it was shown also matters in Hopper's style. In this artwork
the contrast, strong shadings and straight geometrical shapes create illusion of isolation and
simplicity. Strong shading creates mystery and elegance but also suspension. The process Hopper
used was spending a lot of time in location he painted while observing the light and how it reflects.

of making art, a lot of time and effort must have been spent on this for it not to have some sort of
human meaning. In the reading, it says that the one drawing that was thought to be of sick or injured
bison were actually depicting the mating dance and rituals of these majestic creatures. In the reading

Alexa Meade: Painting Analysis
Alexa Meade has been one of the biggest influences in the way I view art, and the world in general.
Meade is known for painting 3D scenes to look like 2D paintings, in a backwards Trompe–L'oeil
style. This style of painting requires not only the ability to capture shadows and highlights with
paint, but also the ability to photograph these scenes. Her pieces are more than just paintings ,
because she uses photography skills to capture her temporary paintings on people. Alexa Meade
grew up in Washington D.C, and graduated from Vassar College in 2009, however, her degree was
in political science, which clearly has nothing to do with art in any sense. She never attended any
formal schooling for pa inting or art in general. In a 2011 interview for ... Show more content on

In this collaboration, Meade and Vand filled a small pool with milk, then Meade painted Vand, and
had her pose in the milk pool. One of the many complications with this project, was the milk
washing the paint off of Sheila before the photos were taken. Rather than constantly repainting parts
where the paint had washed off, Meade instead hid the parts in milk. I n most situations, hiding an
imperfection is considered an elementary act, but in this case, it created a sense of mystery in the
photographs, which overall added to the project. Because the project was dependent on how the
milk moved, Meade had to capture the moments before they could be washed away, adding a sense
of implied movement to the photographs. One of my favorite of Alexa Meade's projects is her "Art
on the Streets" project. In this, she uses pre–existing street art or graffiti as a background for her
painted people. In most of the photographs, the models are captured mid –jump, and because they
are painted to look two–dimensional, they look as if they are painted onto the walls as well. In this
project, you can see Meade's inspiration from the s treet art, and her additions to them

The Painting Reflection
The 2011 animated movie, The Painting, directed by Jean–François Laguionie, offered interesting
thoughts on the debates about the existence of god, the perception of reality, and freewill. The
complexity of the paintings and painter is in parallel with our understanding of the world and god or
creator. It prompts a question though. Are we blind to our own reality never realizing that we are just
one painting within another and clueless about what is beyond our own frame? While a final answer
to these debates was not necessarily given because no one can truly discover the answer, the story
did propose an attitude or mindset that we should adopt leading to a better understanding of the
issues at hand.
Many members of each caste, the Alldunns, Halfies, and Sketchies, simply accepted the way things
were and assumed the painter made everything a certain way for a reason. Some thought the painter
would return to finish his work; others cursed the painter for being so cruel as to leave work
unfinished and allow such inequality; yet, even others thought the painter would not return and did
not care about them. The Alldunns even used this idea to discriminate against those they deemed
incomplete and unworthy of joining them in the castle. In the painting of the war, the two armies
fought day after day because that was all they knew. The struggles and differences between the
castes and in the war painting illustrated inequality and evil that were nonsensical and eventually

Distinctively Visual Analysis Painting
There are a lot of factors in this painting that suggest the woman is the main subject of the painting.
One of them is where the woman is placed in the painting, which is directly in the middle of the
painting. The three men surrounding the woman are positioned in a way that they almost create lines
pointing towards the woman. This automatically causes our eyes to shift on to the women in the
middle. The woman is also the only one facing the audience directly with her face fully shown as
oppose to the rest who only have half their faces.
The highlights and shadows in the painting also plays a part in suggesting that the woman is the
main subject of the painting. Strong contrast between the middle area of the painting and the sides
can be seen. This creates further emphasis on the woman as the light enable us to see most of the
features on her face highlighted as compared to the rest. This creates an effect as if the light is

light. The woman, on the other hand, is shown without much covering her red robe and the light,
that seems to be directly on her, enhanced the colour to be brighter. There is also a reference to

Analysis Of On Painting By Leon Alberti
On Painting by Leon Alberti is, in essence, a book of guidelines for novice painters. Alberti explains
that since paintings are meant to represent things that are seen, they need also be approached this
way. In his theory, he breaks up the way of painting into three important components
circumscription, composition, and the reception of light. Within these three are guidelines for the
portrayal of subjects, spaces and emotion.
In the historia, or the work of the painter, there is circumscription, the first step in painting that is
defined by Alberti as the recording of external outlines. He explains that this step should be given
special attention and, ¬in fact, suggests that composition and reception of light should mean nothing
without it. Alberti says that to do circumscription well one must outline everything with a visible
line, and then use a veil. He describes this veil as a layout of parallel lines that allow for the correct
depiction of objects regardless of the position they are in.
Next, Alberti describes the painting component composition, which is the way that objects in a
painting fit together in relationship to one another. It is in this explanation that Alberti delves into
dealing with the perspective of a painting as a whole. As Alberti mentioned in his veil concept,
parallel lines also play a role in constructing objects with angles that rise from the ground. He
explains that by adding perpendicular lines to the parallels, creating a grid, one can measure out the
length and width that every object will be.
A composition must also be well depicted when painting human subjects. Alberti instructs on
methods such as sketching the bones and muscles first and proportioning muscles using the head or
length of the foot. He also highlights the importance of all members of the body looking consistent
and fulfilling the function of what they are doing. The dead should look dead and the living
otherwise. Humans and their actions must be consistent with other subjects in the painting as well.
For depicting emotion, Alberti insists on the use of seven positional body movements that would
apply to both living and inanimate objects, these include up/down, right/left, away/towards and in
rotation. The

Spilt Avocado Painting Analysis

  • 1. Spilt Avocado Painting Analysis The recreation of The Spilt Avocado Painting I viewed online is what I chose to recreate because the image captured my eye due to the shadows that appear from the top light within the painting. While looking at the painting you can see yourself staring in the direction the reflecting shadows from the top light. The sources of the light coming from the left of the avocado forces the shadow to overlap on top of the other slice, which ultimately draws the observer's attention to the colour of the avocado. Although you might notice the colour of the avocado at first, the shadows indicate a calming mood due to the placement of the light. Additionally, the shadow is showing the direction of light, which is coming from which effects the shade of green the avocado might appear. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Having to use an actual avocado to model and remake of this painting had its challenges. In addition, I also did not have a blue surface to lay the avocados on to capture the same light reflection off the wall. However, I did manage to capture most of the paintings elements in my picture recreation by the placement of my desk lamp and by having my picture based on a white sheet of paper. I used a desk lamp to be able to recreate the painting light sources through the direction I placed the light to create the same shadows from the painting. The challenging part about using a desk lamp was trying to figure out the right distance I needed to direct the light at the avocados to achieve the same shadows. In addition, to the challenging things with the process of remaking the painting was to attain the same position of the avocado to be able to capture the right colour intensity that displays the right distribution of the avocado. Lastly, from all obstacles I was faced with while recreating The Split Avocado Painting was not being able to find a blue surface to achieve the right calming ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Poetry : Are The Arts Of Painting And Poetry Are the arts of painting and poetry comparable? It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words, but can a painting truly be represented in written form? The Modernist poets William Carlos Williams and W.H. Auden use every grammatical tool and trick of form available to them to do just that. Williams wrote the poem "Landscape with the Fall of Icarus" which makes a clear allusion in the first line to a painting with the same name by Brueghel the Elder. Similarly, W.H. Auden also wrote a poem called "Musée des Beaux Arts" which depicts the same painting, as well as others by Brueghel, and expands upon a possible theme of the painting. That theme would be the indifference of nature and the rest of the world to an individual's suffering. Before both Williams and Auden, Brueghel the Elder was a famous artist from the Flemish Renaissance who focused on landscape and genre paintings. Brueghel was responsible for the paintings Landscape with the Fall of Icarus, The Census at Bethlehem, and The Massacre of the Innocents. Using evidence from the text of both Modernists' poems, parallels and similarity of styles can be drawn between Landscape with the Fall of Icarus and the poems. In the case of Auden's "Musée des Beaux Arts", similarities can also be pointed out between the other two of the aforementioned Brueghel works. Williams recreates many traits of the original Brueghel painting, Landscape with the Fall of Icarus. Williams uses even the title of the poem, as well as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Paintings of the Old Masters Look at the color red, a color known for its beauty and while it may not be in everybody's catalogue of beauty, it cannot be denied of its intensity. If one is showed a stunning painting of a red rose, one of the descriptions that could apply to that paining is beauty: seeing such an elegant spectacle of nature being emulated on paper can be quite stimulating. Another description that could be associated with a red rose is passion, as such a color may leave one energized and spontaneous; however how would one respond if they were told that the painting of the rose was painted with blood. Now a painting that once may have suggested the aspects of beauty and passion, may stir descriptions such as fear, aggression, danger and yet passion as well; therefore, bringing one to the understanding that "Every image embodies a way of seeing" (Berger, 142). This is why paintings should be viewed as a spectacle; hence, this brings me to the painting I was presented with by John Berger in his book Ways of seeing in which he argues how through reproduction the modern context of the Old Masters' paintings severed them from what they meant in the time of their production. The painting that demanded my attention was Wheatfield with Crows by Van Gogh, something that may seem simple at first but is rich with emotion. Through such a work of art I've come to understand that paintings are a medium where an artist can illustrate his words/feelings and express ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cimabue Painting The Madonna Enthroned Through society had used art as a consideration for their religious beliefs and educated morals the panting Madonna Enthroned has a traditional Christian subject, representing the Virgin Mary and the Christ Child seated on her lap. This large painting is an extremely important landmark in art history. Cimabue's painting of the Madonna Enthroned shows strong Byzantine Influence. The throne is elaborate with no visible back support, and instead seems to rise upward denying the material reality of it is weight. Furthermore, the Christ child is depicted with the proportions and gestures of a man. • 9. Kehinde Wiley: Painting Analysis The first work of art, illustrated by Kehinde Wiley, appears to give a realistic feel to the audience. As the painting of the man, the horse, and the sword appears as neither abstract, nor nonobjective. I can see that the painting is oil on canvas. In the background of his painting, it is dark red at the top, and pink towards the middle of the background, with a shade of white just above the neutral scheme of different brown shades representing the muddy ground. The white in the background probably represents the horizon. If you zoom in very, very closely, you can see what looks like a military cannon towards the right side of the painting, emphasizing the environment of a battle soldier. The horse is painted neutrally as well, white, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I gather that the idea of this piece is to display a majestic image of a black male in a heroic pose. Practically as a mockery of those who reserve these type of images only for white historical figures, he introduced an urban male character instead, which was game changing. The portrait is very unique, and its explosive imagery is what makes it fascinating and well–illustrated. It obviously has a meaning to it, and is derived from a historical painting from hundreds of years ago. This painting includes the concept of taking a historical theme, and replacing the character of the painting with an African American man that relates to the title of the painting, which is slightly altered. I did a little research into the title, Officer of the Hussars, and these officers were originally Hungarian, and from the fourteenth century whom are noted as horse riding men fighting in battle, in other words a Cavalry soldier. In Wiley's painting, there is an African American man on a horse, urbanely dressed in brown boots, loosely fitted jeans, and a white tank top. In a closer look, you can also see a shagged purple shirt over his tank top. He is also holding a sword, which further emphasizes the approach to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Comparing Three Paintings Sometimes in life, beauty appears only to those who seek it out. That is because we must learn to recognize that beauty comes in many different forms and sometimes with greatly varying characteristics. Because one thing is beautiful, it does not mean that something different can't be equally so. The 3 paintings discussed in the following paragraphs, are a great example of this concept. "Large Bathers", is widely considered to be one of his Paul Cezanne's finest, if not his finest, work. Looking at the brilliant color, the depiction of the structure of the figures, the attention to composition and the creation of implied spatial depth, it is not hard to see how Cezanne came to influence a number of prominent artists in his own day, as well as of the next generation. There is a certain monumental permanence and timelessness that one doesn't really find with the impressionist's more casual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Understanding the similarities and differences between the two works, one can by extension understand how cubism took influence from post–impressionism, as well as what new elements it brought to the table. The setting and mood are very similar, as is the sense of timelessness and the focus on structure and forms. In Picasso's work, however, the form is further broken down into more basic geometric shapes and they are set against a two–dimensional plane, in stark contrast to the spatial depth that Cezanne featured ("Pablo Picasso's Cubism Period", n.d.). Picasso's work is more monochromatic, as opposed to the brilliant colors of Cezanne's work. In it's time, his work greatly challenged the traditional concept of subdued feminine beauty. It also presents the influence of African art on Picasso. The Girls of Avignon is widely considered to be the finest and most quintessential example of cubism in its heyday ("Pablo Picasso's Cubism Period", ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Personal Statement: Painting Analysis Painting has been a coping mechanism to handle the stress from the arduous amount of work I experienced in school since I was young. However, I was frustrated when painting because I could not sketch desired shapes due to my disability, but I still wanted to paint. Since I took an elective computer course, I was thoroughly amazed by the abilities that a computer is capable of. When I realized that there was a computer application for painting and marveled at what the application can do to ease my frustration, I began to develop curiosity about computer functions and mechanisms. Because of this, I am determined to further my education and ultimately become a computer programmer who is eager to incorporate the arts and use of logic in unique computer applications by using my programming and leadership skills. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was fascinating that with the painting application, I could use the same tools to paint whereas canvas paintings takes hours to paint. Therefore, by using unique painting applications, I can improve my creativity and productivity in art. In community college, I was intrigued by how computer science revolves around math and design. For example, when I took a Visual Basic course, I was introduced how to design a graphical user interface that interacts with the user and produce calculations as a back–end programmer. Moreover, I was fascinated because, as I advanced to the first series of Java course, I found that it took perseverance to understand the viewpoint of an end user to utilize Java programming language in order to execute the proper functionality of technology ... • 15. The Relationship Between Persian Painting And Chinese... 1. Introduction Kamāl al–Dīn Behzād (c.1450–c.1535), who served royal princes of Timurid (1370–1507) and Safavid (1501–1736) dynasties, is one of the famous painters in Islamic world. Historical records and paintings related to him are so numerous. From the beginning of 20th century, art historians challenged again and again to define the style of his paintings and to attribute the non–signed works to him. However, the characteristics thought as Bihzād style are vague, so the re–examination of his style is needed. In this essay, I would like to re–examine what is called "Bihzād style", by comparing the Persian painting with Chinese painting. 2. The Relationship between Persian Painting and Chinese Painting Before reviewing the study history ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this is not true, because as mentioned above, the taste for Chinese landscape motifs was already seen in the 13th century. It would be more appropriate to see the works of Bihzād's figural paintings rather than landscape paintings to define the Bihzād style. According to the one of the contemporary historical records, Bābor–nāma, Bābor wrote Bihzād was good at portraits of beard man. The statement by Bābor means people who lived in the same period thought Bihzād's strong point was drawing figures. Figure 1 is the portrait of Dervish, which is attributed to Bihzād. The brush work is similar to the techniques of Chinese nail head–rat tail (釘頭鼠尾in Chinese) (see fig 2). Compared to classical style of Persian painting (see fig 3), the depiction of hairs, mustaches and beard are so fine. The shadowing and the realistic depiction of ears, nose and mouth are also rarely seen in the classical Persian painting. The Chinese derived features of this painting (fig 1) mean, in this period, Persian painters imitated the works of Chinese paintings. And by doing so, they gradually introduced some traces of Chinese painting techniques to Persian painting. The influence of Chinese painting had great impact before the Timurid dynasties, but according Sugimura, Persian painters started to borrowing the physiognomy for the first time in this period. From his indication and the comparison between Bihzād practice drawing (fig 1) and Chinese painting (fig 2), Bihzād style could be defined by the depiction of figures rather than landscape painting ... • 17. Analyzing The Painting 'Baptism Of Pocahontas' The painting, "Baptism of Pocahontas" was commissioned in 1837. John Gadsby Chapman installed the painting in November of 1840. This painting was created during a time when the United States was forcefully expanding westward and had implemented a policy to remove the Indian tribes off their lands. One example of incorporating religious content and context includes Chapman's focus on the religious ceremony of baptism. This inclusion illustrates the belief among white Americans of this period that Native Americans could be integrated into the white civilization. Pocahontas' choosing to receive baptism exemplified the promises of this assimilation. Although the painting depicts Pocahontas' noble acceptance of English religion and culture, ... • 19. Mannerist Paintings Paintings from the High Renaissance and Mannerist Period Mannerism emerged and rejected the classical Greco–Roman art in the 1520s, which constituted to the Renaissance era. The Mannerist works challenged the Renaissance style and the interest in human anatomy, perspective, and proportion (Kleiner 600). In contrast to the Late Renaissance painters where they were inclined to create naturalistic art, Mannerist painters honed in creating art that was unrealistic by portraying ambiguous space, unusual presentations of traditional themes, and removing the limitations of expected conventions (Kleiner 643). The Venetian representative of Mannerism is Jacopo Robusti (Kleiner 636). He is known as Tintoretto, and one of his most famous paintings is Last Supper. Another great Venetian master was Paolo Caliari of Verona (Kleiner 637). He is known as Paolo Veronese, and he painted Christ in the House of Levi. It is beneficial to one's knowledge in understanding the similarities and differences in size, content, composition and form of these two paintings. Furthermore, it is fascinating how these two works reflect and how they were influenced by their time and culture; moreover, one is able to perceive the era in which the two paintings were created. In regards to size and content, Tintoretto's Last Supper and Veronese's Christ in the House of Levi share quite a few similarities. Both of these paintings were painted on huge canvases. • 23. Landscape Painting : Landscape, Landscapes, And Paintings Landscape painting has been developed and pursued by many over the centuries. Think back to the dawn of civilization, cavemen were painting murals upon the cave walls of the nature that surrounding him and the animals that habituated. The term "landscape" derives from the Dutch word landschap, which originally meant "region, tract of land" but acquired the artistic connotation, "a picture depicting scenery on land" in the early 1500s (American Heritage Dictionary, 2000). All my life, I have lived in small town by the name of Banta. It has the population of roughly 3,000 individuals, making it an extremely small town. I am not even to sure I can technically call it a town its filled with farm houses and crop fields, rolling hills and trees galore. Banta, Indiana. As it is only a half–hour drive away. There are many things that make this landscape unique; that let me know that it is "home." These range from the shape of the land itself to the architecture of houses. One way that I know when I am home is when I am in "my hills," as I selfishly call them. They might not be much more than foothills, but it is significant enough for me to notice a vast flatness when traveling. Indiana's climate can also help make it identifiable. It falls into a humid continental region, resulting in it having both long, hot summers and freezing winters with snowfall. It also has a moderate amount of rainfall. Due to this, Indiana has rather diverse weather patterns. Sometimes the weather can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both of the painting's represent a princess being helped by her maids or helpers. While Picasso's was very abstract, Velazquez's was very realistic. While Picasso's painting focused more on the princess, Velazquez's painting focused more on the maids/helpers. Picasso's painting is the thought of the first paragraph. Picasso was a very abstract artist. He almost made his painting's with stain glass. In the painting he made he made the princess very big and beautiful. The maid stood by making her look beautiful. I think Picasso was portraying that real beauty comes from the ones you least expect. Although the princess was, well a princess, she could only become beautiful with the help of her maids, if her maids weren't there then she wouldn't be pretty. Although her maids aren't pretty that doesn't mean that true beauty comes from the outside, and that's what I think picasso was trying to portray. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 29. The Work And Paintings Of Jacob Lawrence For my research paper, I will be studying the work and paintings of Jacob Lawrence. Jacob Lawrence was an American painter and was very highly commended African–American artist of the 20 century. What he is best known for is his Migration Series. He was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey on September 7, 1917. When he was the age of two his mother deposited him and his two younger siblings in foster care in Philadelphia after his parents divorced. When he was thirteen he went to work in New York City and there he went to join his mother. He also spent fifteen years teaching as a professor at the University of Washington. Lawrence was also widely known for producing narrative collections such as the Migration Series and War Series. Shortly after Lawrence had arrived there, he was introduced to art when his mother had enrolled him in Utopia Children's Center, which then had an after school art program. At the age of 16 he dropped out of school and took classes at the Harlem Art Workshop where it was taught by Charles Ashton and he very often visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In 1937, he won a scholarship to the American Artist School in New York. When he graduated in 1939 he had received funding from the Works Progress Administration Federal Art Project. By that time, he had already established his own type of modernism and that is then when he began to create his narrative series; where he would paint about 30 paintings or more for that one subject. Angelico's painting is a very large fresco. The painting is so large that Mary and Gabriel are almost life size. In comparison, Campin's painting is a triptych that is small and a portable oil painting. This portability brings us into a new era, where people want this type of art in their homes versus only being able to view them in a church. The left panel allows us to see the donors being nosey, the middle panel is the scene of the annunciation, and the right panel gives us a look at Joseph working. Angelico keeps his painting very simplistic with no flash or Christian symbolism in it. Many think that it is because of the location of the painting in a church. The area surrounding Gabriel and Mary is bare and flat. The focus is strictly on Mary and Garbriel who are technically to large spacially. They would not be able to move around in the area because of their size. Campin has created a piece that is full of Christian symbolism. The flowers on the table, the tools that Joseph uses, and baby Jesus floating in on sun rays heading toward Mary's womb are just a few examples. While Angelico kept his background simple and plan, Campin uses a background that makes the painting relatable for the viewer of that time. Campin uses a home that would have been modern and pays specific details to the surroundings. The textures and amount of detail that Campin puts into his painting make it feel plush and full of life. Furthermore, this artwork also has rhythm, a sense of continuance and a feeling of movement by the colors and the diagonal position of the bodies. Secondly, there is a good balance between large and small objects. The large and small objects are well spread out throughout this artwork. This painting is from the era of war and rationed goods. The idea for this painting originated from his neighbor Jim Jennings, a farmer from down the road. He made the painting from just one basket of potatoes. Most of Carters painting were based off of memories from his childhood. While looking at Good Crop, your eyes are drawn to the first bucket of potatoes sitting on a wagon. He uses both organic and geometric shapes. The organic shapes can be seen in the potatoes, bushes and horses. We see the geometric shapes when we analyze the circular buckets that have rectangular handles. The potatoes are unified together by the buckets, in which they are placed. From there we will notice that the painting is asymmetrically balanced. Carter placed the farmer, the buckets of potatoes, wagon and white horse on the left side. On the right is the dark brown horse and meadow. To balance the painting out carter used an implied line, by having the farmer look off to his right. This is an implied line because our eyes want to draw a connecting the drivers eyes to the far right of the painting. This implied line adds weight to the right side. Using this implied line we can also note that Carter used directional forces in this painting. Carter had the farmer look off to his right, which pulls our eyes to the right. In Turner's painting of The Burning Houses of Lords and Commons, Turner shows just how important the right colors can be to give a painting a certain feeling. The yellow and orange colors that are used draw the focus to the center of the painting and this is Parliament on fire. The dark and dreary shades of the blues, and grays give the painting a sad and depressed feeling. The first painting is The Gross Clinic by Thomas Eakins an oil painting canvas from 1875 drew in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The second painting is The Anatomy Lesson by Rembrandt is also an oil painting canvas but drew in 1632 the Dutch Baroque era. Both paintings depict surgeons at work dissecting features of dead bodies for experimental studies for groups of fellow surgeons and students. In this painting the bright red blood colors from the surgeon's fingers and scalpel, and the gruesome fresh incision is fascinating, as well as repulsive, and confusing since it is so hard to read the detailed position of the patient's body. Where as in The Anatomy Lesson it has been pointed out several times that this painting does not actually depict the dissection taking place in real life. There are many details that point this out. For one in the scene there does not seem to be a crowd in the anatomy theater as we would normally see in a real depiction. The second point is that in all of Amsterdam anatomy lessons there is an abundance of the lack of instruments for the dissection taken place, also there is an absence of the preparator who has the task of preparing the body for the lesson that will be taking place. This was considered to be a low end and bloody task, which Dr. Tulp would not be expected to take care of. I really enjoyed splatter painting, it was an enjoyable way of just showing my creativity and letting my mind flow. I think it would be even better to do this with a friend rather than just by yourself, and next time I will mix other paint colors to create more interesting colors. The creation showed me that I'm capable of doing at least one thing that is artistic, before I would say that I couldn't even draw a straight line correctly. These three artworks are important to me, because I have never created art that I am proud of, this is the first time that has ever happened. I am satisfied with my result, I expressed everything in the way I imagines it. I'm not sure that people could just as readily recognize what emotions each canvas represents, but that doesn't bother me, I'd rather just get some type of reaction out of them than nothing. I do consider the part of my brain that comes out with ideas to be creative, but there are times that I can't just make my own idea, I need inspiration from many diverse sources first. I do think my artwork shows imagination, because I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Artemisia In The Last Painting Lucretia realism shown in the groin wrinkle, the crow's feet wrinkles at the right armpit, the lines in her neck, the pendant breasts, and the recognizably feminine abdomen (Image 200). Even so, Artemisia depicts the female form as more muscular and toned than the female bodies seen in most contemporaneous works by male artists. Though Susanna is seated, she is resisting the advances of the elders, and a cry is coming from her open mouth illustrating her alarm. Her shame of being naked in front of the elders is palpable in her downcast eyes and the flush on her cheeks. Artemisia created suspense and a sense of anxiety in the painting by expressing a threat of rape in the elder's whispers that is more disturbing than the actual act of violence. Artemisia ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lucretia is about to kill herself to spare her family the dishonor of her rape. Artemisia portrays Lucretia as a common woman rather than an idealized figure from classical antiquity. Lucretia's physical flaws and emotional vulnerability are apparent. The influence of Caravaggio is now obvious in Artemisia's work through the close–focused composition of the singular figure, Lucretia, emerging from a dark background, harshly illuminated in typical tenebrist manner that creates a dramatic impact as Artemisia halts Lucretia's hand in action grasping the dagger, blade upward and not aimed directly at her breast, while her other hand clutches her breast in a moment of conflict as she struggles for the courage to complete the act (Garrard, Image 115). Also, as typical of Caravaggio, Artemisia portrays a single moment of narrative with a heightened sense of suspense and drama (Mann, 100). Artemisia depicts Lucretia seated in a contrapposto or counter pose and Lucretia's leg forms the base of a conventional Renaissance pyramid with her head at its apex. In art, contrapposto describes a figure that stands (or in this case sits) with one leg holding the full weight of the body, while the other leg is relaxed. This classical pose rests the hips and shoulders at opposite angles and gives a slight curve to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. Edward Hopper's Painting: Summertime 1943, Oil Painting Edward Hopper Title of Painting: Summertime 1943, oil paint I see: The scene presents a young maid dressed in white comming outside a large white building. The background is dominated by white walls with brick texture and two windows (one opened). The characteristics of this artwork is incredible contrast between black and white, the shadows are strong and blacks (inside the building) are deep. The lines are straight and shading is strong and directional. The subject matters the most. The dominant colours used are whites and blacks. Light saturation is very strong but is balanced with dark areas. The predominant mood is feeling of anticipation. The girls looks far away, her chin raised and eyes looking, waiting. I think: Edward Hopper's techniques were relatively simple. He painted directly, brusquely, focusing on covering what he wants to say through the scene. In Hopper's style the subject which is conveyed matters rather than a way in which it was conveyed (which mainly matters in Matisse's style). Personally I think that the way in which it was shown also matters in Hopper's style. In this artwork the contrast, strong shadings and straight geometrical shapes create illusion of isolation and simplicity. Strong shading creates mystery and elegance but also suspension. The process Hopper used was spending a lot of time in location he painted while observing the light and how it reflects. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 69. Cave Paintings The part of the reading that had me most engaged and interested was the section on the cave paintings done by the early humans. The way that they painted these images were just so intricate and with so much detail, it had me in awe. The fact that some of these animals seemed to be drawn in motion gives me the inclination that it was something more meaningful than drawing for the sake of making art, a lot of time and effort must have been spent on this for it not to have some sort of human meaning. In the reading, it says that the one drawing that was thought to be of sick or injured bison were actually depicting the mating dance and rituals of these majestic creatures. In the reading it says the meanings of these paintings could have been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. Alexa Meade: Painting Analysis Alexa Meade has been one of the biggest influences in the way I view art, and the world in general. Meade is known for painting 3D scenes to look like 2D paintings, in a backwards Trompe–L'oeil style. This style of painting requires not only the ability to capture shadows and highlights with paint, but also the ability to photograph these scenes. Her pieces are more than just paintings , because she uses photography skills to capture her temporary paintings on people. Alexa Meade grew up in Washington D.C, and graduated from Vassar College in 2009, however, her degree was in political science, which clearly has nothing to do with art in any sense. She never attended any formal schooling for pa inting or art in general. In a 2011 interview for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this collaboration, Meade and Vand filled a small pool with milk, then Meade painted Vand, and had her pose in the milk pool. One of the many complications with this project, was the milk washing the paint off of Sheila before the photos were taken. Rather than constantly repainting parts where the paint had washed off, Meade instead hid the parts in milk. I n most situations, hiding an imperfection is considered an elementary act, but in this case, it created a sense of mystery in the photographs, which overall added to the project. Because the project was dependent on how the milk moved, Meade had to capture the moments before they could be washed away, adding a sense of implied movement to the photographs. One of my favorite of Alexa Meade's projects is her "Art on the Streets" project. In this, she uses pre–existing street art or graffiti as a background for her painted people. In most of the photographs, the models are captured mid –jump, and because they are painted to look two–dimensional, they look as if they are painted onto the walls as well. In this project, you can see Meade's inspiration from the s treet art, and her additions to them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. The Painting Reflection The 2011 animated movie, The Painting, directed by Jean–François Laguionie, offered interesting thoughts on the debates about the existence of god, the perception of reality, and freewill. The complexity of the paintings and painter is in parallel with our understanding of the world and god or creator. It prompts a question though. Are we blind to our own reality never realizing that we are just one painting within another and clueless about what is beyond our own frame? While a final answer to these debates was not necessarily given because no one can truly discover the answer, the story did propose an attitude or mindset that we should adopt leading to a better understanding of the issues at hand. Many members of each caste, the Alldunns, Halfies, and Sketchies, simply accepted the way things were and assumed the painter made everything a certain way for a reason. Some thought the painter would return to finish his work; others cursed the painter for being so cruel as to leave work unfinished and allow such inequality; yet, even others thought the painter would not return and did not care about them. The Alldunns even used this idea to discriminate against those they deemed incomplete and unworthy of joining them in the castle. In the painting of the war, the two armies fought day after day because that was all they knew. The struggles and differences between the castes and in the war painting illustrated inequality and evil that were nonsensical and eventually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Distinctively Visual Analysis Painting There are a lot of factors in this painting that suggest the woman is the main subject of the painting. One of them is where the woman is placed in the painting, which is directly in the middle of the painting. The three men surrounding the woman are positioned in a way that they almost create lines pointing towards the woman. This automatically causes our eyes to shift on to the women in the middle. The woman is also the only one facing the audience directly with her face fully shown as oppose to the rest who only have half their faces. The highlights and shadows in the painting also plays a part in suggesting that the woman is the main subject of the painting. Strong contrast between the middle area of the painting and the sides can be seen. This creates further emphasis on the woman as the light enable us to see most of the features on her face highlighted as compared to the rest. This creates an effect as if the light is directly on her. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The woman, on the other hand, is shown without much covering her red robe and the light, that seems to be directly on her, enhanced the colour to be brighter. • 77. Analysis Of On Painting By Leon Alberti On Painting by Leon Alberti is, in essence, a book of guidelines for novice painters. Alberti explains that since paintings are meant to represent things that are seen, they need also be approached this way. In his theory, he breaks up the way of painting into three important components circumscription, composition, and the reception of light. Within these three are guidelines for the portrayal of subjects, spaces and emotion. In the historia, or the work of the painter, there is circumscription, the first step in painting that is defined by Alberti as the recording of external outlines. He explains that this step should be given special attention and, ¬in fact, suggests that composition and reception of light should mean nothing without it. Alberti says that to do circumscription well one must outline everything with a visible line, and then use a veil. He describes this veil as a layout of parallel lines that allow for the correct depiction of objects regardless of the position they are in. Next, Alberti describes the painting component composition, which is the way that objects in a painting fit together in relationship to one another. It is in this explanation that Alberti delves into dealing with the perspective of a painting as a whole. As Alberti mentioned in his veil concept, parallel lines also play a role in constructing objects with angles that rise from the ground. He explains that by adding perpendicular lines to the parallels, creating a grid, one can measure out the length and width that every object will be. A composition must also be well depicted when painting human subjects. Alberti instructs on methods such as sketching the bones and muscles first and proportioning muscles using the head or length of the foot. He also highlights the importance of all members of the body looking consistent and fulfilling the function of what they are doing. The dead should look dead and the living otherwise. Humans and their actions must be consistent with other subjects in the painting as well. For depicting emotion, Alberti insists on the use of seven positional body movements that would apply to both living and inanimate objects, these include up/down, right/left, away/towards and in rotation.
