I chose California's average Medical Assistant hiring rate and wage for 2012–2015 as my topic for
my final topic. This topic relates to my work because it will show me how likely I will be able to
find a job as a Medical Assistant in California. It will also give me an idea of what my hourly,
monthly, and yearly pay will be. The pay and hiring rate in California will help me in the future with
my job because it will allow me to know if I will be able to find a Medical Assisting job in
California easily or not, and it will also be able to help me see about how much I will be making
every month so I can calculate my monthly budget. My topic of California's average pay and hiring

would be the best place to work. I found that even though California has a 6% higher cost of living

The Pain Of A Physician Assistant
Terrified was an understatement. "Surgery....surgery...surgery..." was the only word that I heard
echoed through the room , and suddenly images of knifes and flesh being cut invaded my ten years
old mind. Peritonitis, was what I had, "unfortunately" I thought then, yet "fortunately" I know now.
My calling in life was then discovered and for that I will be forever grateful. Petrified and alone, I
was yearning for someone to understand my fear and explain what is about to happen to me; to
clarify what the doctors said. That 's when a Physician Assistant walked in and changed my life
forever. I will always remember Julie 's smile and reassuring voice which filled me with a sense of
calm and genuine comfort. She was carrying a doll and highlighted what my surgery was all about.
As I lay in bed recovering after surgery, I decided that one day I will be like Julie and I will help
people feel secure and safe in the healthcare setting. "One more bite Ethan", I said armed with a toy
truck, as I was attempting to feed his frail, cold, and hairless little body who's eyes were full of life.
Ethan was my friend, I came to visit him every Friday hopefully at his home but commonly at the
hospital. "It's almost over Ethan, you will soon stop hurting my little sunshine" I said to him, as I
hugged his skeletal body. He looked up to me and without a sound he made perfect sense. That
Sunday morning will forever be inked in my heart, that was the last day I saw my four year old
friend, but the

Virtual Assistant Advantages And Disadvantages
Whenever a friend visits me at home and sees my workstation with over one computer. I get an
inquisitive look and asked what I do.
I answered: "I am a VA" – Virtual Assistant! :)
The next question would be – "what is a VA"?
So I thought of creating this post for friends or anyone curious what is Virtual Assistant to enlighten
them.
According to Wikipedia:

The Profession Of Physician Assistants
Family Medicine Physician Assistants Physician assistants are professionals that practice medicine
under the supervision of a physician. The profession was created in the 1960s because physicians
began to notice that there was a shortage of physicians practicing in primary care. To solve for the
shortage of physicians, Eugene A. Sted Jr.,MD of Duke University gathered four men who had
medical training in the military and created the first class of PAs in 1965.This first physician
assistant class graduated from Duke University on October 6th, 1967 and the profession had great
support from the medical community and the federal government claiming the PA profession was a
"creative solution to physician shortages."1 Today, there is still ... Show more content on

The family medicine specialty is unique and different compared to other physician assistant
specialties. Being that family medicine PAs see patients throughout the duration of their life, they
also see patients with a variety of illnesses. The family medicine specialty can be considered a
"generalist" specialty because they see patients for all things and not just focusing on one specific
specialty which is perhaps why this specialty is favorable and the most popular specialty within the
physician assistant profession. There are many duties and responsibilities that a physician assistants
job includes. Although physician assistants practice under the supervision of a physician, PAs and
physicians typically see their patients independently of each other. Because PAs will usually see
their patients without a physician in the room, they are able to write prescriptions for medications to
help treat their patients. Aside from prescribing medicine, PAs are also able to diagnose and treat
illnesses, seeing patients in chronic conditions and managing their progress, ordering lab work when
needed and explaining the results to their patients, conducting physical examinations, and being able

There are three different jobs a medical assistant may choose from. They are: Administrative

Medical Assistant is medical assistants who mostly perform administrative tasks such as assisting
patients with filling out insurance forms, managing patient records, making appointments,
answering phones, maintaining the front desk and reception areas, and performing general
accounting and billing. When it comes to Specialized Medical Assistant it all depends on their job
setting and they perform specialized clinical tasks. Last but not least, Clinical Medical Assistant
focuses on patient care such as recording vital signs when interacting with patients, administering
medications under direction of a supervising physician, conducting assignments, and performing
other clinical tasks.
There are different steps that could be taken to become a Medical Assistant. You could either receive
a certificate or an Associates. Associate just takes more training and or school time then the other. A
certificate in Medical Assisting takes about 9 to 12 months long, while an Associate's degree takes
about 24 months long. When choosing the program its best to weigh out your options. For example
the Medical assisting certificate program generally takes about one year in length or less. Medical

Unlike physical development that is visual, a child's social and emotional development is also
generalised according to age but can't be seen. Every child is unique and for that reason although
general milestones can be used as a guide to expectation, it must be remembered that each child will
develop at his/ her own pace.
The brain development of a child can be seriously affected by their well being during the early

caused by lack of stimulation, engagement and positive relationships can all influence development.
Signs such as behavioural problems, low self–esteem, apprehension, lack of concentration and

The Digital Assistant, Or Pda
The personal digital assistant, or PDA, was a small hand–held electronic device that was intended
for use as a simple organizer, including features like a calendar and tasks list. Today, the PDA has
fallen into disuse, replaced by its more popular and powerful successor: the smart phone. Voice
recognition technology is giving rebirth to the spirit of the PDA in the form of new intelligent digital
systems designed to help you manage your affairs. These reborn personal assistants are gaining
popularity in both consumer and business markets due to their ability to streamline commonplace
tasks. As new technologies are discovered, additional applications and markets will be uncovered
for this technology to take root in. A Brief History The idea of digital personal assistants has been
around in the public realm quite a while thanks mainly to Hollywood since the 1960's. Many movies
back in the sixties would depict computers or other devices that had the ability to plan and organize
events with limited human interaction. Due to the production of several science fiction titles such as
Star Trek, Star Wars, and A Space Odyssey, the early conceptions of such beings as cognitive
personal assistants came to the public eye. Early examples of such devices included "Star Trek's"
talking computer, the Hal 9000, and R2D2; devices that could in most cases assist or come up with
plans instead of requiring humans to do the organization, reasoning, or brainstorming of all factors
in the decision

Origins of the Physician Assistant Career
Physician assistants (PAs) are a significant part of the nation's health care workforce. As licensed
clinicians capable of performing multiple therapeutic and diagnostic tasks, PAs currently work
across different medical care specialties. Therefore, it is imperative to understand the factors led to
the development of the PA profession including, social catalysts, its founding characters, and the
career's initial philosophy.
In 1965, due to a scarcity of primary care providers, the first educational program for PAs was
established at Duke University (Bodenheimer & Cramback, 2009). The society was in need of a new
type of medical provider. Therefore, Duke University PA program's intent was to mainly solve the
issue in primary care workforce by educating midlevel providers. The first PA graduates in the
nation were medically trained individuals with military background (Gerrie & Holbrook, 2013). ...

Thelma Ingles, a registered nurse, and Dr. Eugene A, Stead, were the pioneers of Duke MSN
program in 1958 (Pollitt & Raesman, 2011). Both wanted to bring a solution to the imminent
shortage of clinicians during the 1950's and 1960's. However, due to inability to obtain program
accreditation, the program soon closed and Stead shifted his perspective from training nurses to
training military corpsmen.
According to Kent (2010), in 1965, Stead admitted and trained the first class of PAs consisting of
former Navy corpsmen. The PA students were trained under a medical education model, to
effectively provide health services. Two years later (1967), the first class of PAs consisting of three
clinicians graduated. The initial role of PAs was to improve and expand health care at a primary care
level. Nonetheless, over the years, the function of PAs in health care evolved

There are numerous ethical issues that a medical assistant may encounter in a daily office or hospital
setting. It is unethical to have a conversation with a fellow coworker regarding a patient. The patient
may overhear or worse they may be related to someone in the office. It is no one's business as to
why the patient had an appointment. Another unethical behavior that is unacceptable is foul
language in front of the patients. They do not need to hear that kind of language under any
circumstances. When a patient comes in to see you and smells of urine or alcohol, be courteous to
the patient and do not judge the patient. This patient may not have the means to shower daily or they
may be sick and are unaware of the odor. A good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fundamental principles consisting of sterilizing rooms and equipment are skills that a CMA will do
daily. Doing these clinical skills while practicing standard precautions must be a high priority for
everyone in the health care facility. Administrative skills are essential for a CMA to do the job that is
required of them. It is all done via computer so there typing skills must be adequate for them to
succeed. From patient schedules to bookkeeping to insurance forms, all is done on a daily basis.
Licensure is when a government agency authorizes individuals to work in a job. A CMA does not
need a license to work. Professions needing licenses are nurses and therapists. Registration is a
professional organization in a specific health care field that administers exams and/or maintains a
list of qualified individuals. CMA's can apply for a registration credential. This would give them a
better paying job and more responsibilities at their present facility. Certification involves the issuing
of a certificate and credentials by a professional organization to someone who has met the
experience and education guidelines of that organization. This basically tells everyone that you have
finished your schooling for Medical Assisting. For a Medical Assistant to maintain his/her
certification they must recertify either by passing the CMA exam again or by

Becoming A Physician's Assistant Essay
When I first began my college career in 2011, I was a first generation college student. I entered into
college with only a vague goal of becoming a Physician's Assistant. The most common question I
was asked was why? Why a Physicians Assistant? And I my answer was always the simple standard
answer of: "I want to help people". I, undeniably, still want to help others but it was not until the
Christmas of my sophomore year, that I truly understood what it meant and took to be a successful
Physician's Assistant. A few days after Christmas my mother was hospitalized for two and a half
weeks with a continuous blood clot in her leg and a small blood clot in her lungs. She spent the first
3 days in ICU, required multiple blood and iron transfusions, and eventually surgery. For me, the
worst part of the entire experience was being awakened in the middle of the night by nothing more
than the faint whisper of my name. Till this day, I don't know how I heard it. My mom had collapsed
on the stairs in excruciating pain. She was extremely weak and unable to move. I thought I was
watching my mother die, and the immediate fear and panic that I felt, still haunts me sometimes. I
didn't know what to do or what was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather than becoming a Physician or Nurse Practitioner, I knew that becoming a PA would be the
best fit in my life. I want to become a PA because of the many advantages I would gain, that earning

I may, eventually, like to change specialties since there are many areas of medicine that I am

altruistic mindset. I genuinely enjoy interacting with people and helping them. I enjoy working with

INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this report is to present to you the career I have selected to research and write about,
executive assistant, and to persuade you, as the teacher, to let me use this job as the foundation of
the rest of the assignments in the class. Hoping it gets approved, I will use this career to complete all

will need in the future.
BACKGROUND
Within the past few months, I became very interested in becoming an executive assistant. Living on
the Outer Banks of North Carolina, it is very easy to make quick money by waiting tables or
bartending, which is what I have done for 4 years now. I recently had a child in July and ... Show

Over the past few months I have been working with this company and finally figured this is the
perfect fit for me. The fact that I am a very organized person helps me tremendously with this job. I
have always been a leader or "bossy" as some would say, and this job fits me perfectly.
Meeting new people, getting to design and control a website and social media page, playing with
numbers, managing a company, and learning so much more about construction than just building a
house is what really made my choice for this career.
REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTRY TO BE AN EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT
The minimum requirement for an executive assistant is an associate's degree in office administration
or office management. Depending on what level position, the company might require one to obtain a
bachelor's degree, which I am close to finishing. Accounting, business management, and business
administration are just a few of the majors one could pursue for this career ("Executive Assistant").
Although a simple bachelor's degree in business is enough, if one is interested in an executive
position in the medical field, the company might require them to know medical terminology and
medical insurance practices. For a law firm, the same thing would apply. That person will need to
know about legal office procedures and processing legal information. Depending on the company
one is working for, they might require

By living my life intentionally, I hope that others will follow suit. 4) Community Development
What is the importance of community? Please talk about your experience with working with diverse
groups of people and how you interact with others that are different from you in a community
setting.
Community is the difference between being and belonging. It is just too easy to just be a part of a
group, but to feel like you belong to the group is far more meaningful. You can go to the meetings
and know everyone's names but none of that means anything if you don't feel that you are a
significant component in a group. To be a part of a community means that you are a part of group
where inclusion, support and friendship are highly–regarded. The beauty about community is that
everyone has their own gifts, talents, opinions and experiences to offer to it, therefore making each
member valuable. As a Resident Assistant, I intend to create an inclusive community in which each
person is accepted and encouraged regardless of race, gender, religion, sexual–orientation or ability.
By promoting diversity in my community, I hope that everyone gains a sense of belonging. In my
community, I will have an open mind and tolerant attitude and will encourage my residents to do the
same. Because understanding that no two residents are the same, I will conduct myself through
equity. I will try to learn about my residents individually so if

One pro is, being able to help people. Some are in it just to help people and cure them of their
sickness. Just to be able to help someone is an enjoyment to them. CMAs can work anywhere,
between nursing home facilities, offices, and hospitals of course. Some build relationships with their
patients and some may say that isn't a pro but it isn't good to just be rude and dull to a patient. It's
better to be happy and optimistic around a patient. You can be certified to work in any state. Instead
of being tied down to one state only, the certification allows the person to work anywhere across the
country. You work regular hours. Unlike some workers in the medical profession: nurses, doctors,
etc. CMAs get off at the exact time that's on their schedule, no overtimes or anything and they know
their schedule. There are plenty of jobs. The field is to grow at least by 23% by 2022. The
drawbacks of becoming a CMA is it can be very tiring. Especially working in a hospital or a nursing
home, the patients could be a little too much or extremely sick and they may need extra care and that
may be tiring. Some CMAs should perform both administrative and clinical duties which can
become very frustrating and overwhelming. Another drawback is the pay rate and the amount of
schooling. CMAs typically receive lower wages than most medical professions and do about the
same amount of schooling as doctors and nurses and doing much more, they don't get much at all.

Who Is The Physician Assistant?
Anything worth having will not come without its share of challenges. No career path is going to be
greener on the other side. Challenges that are brought about in any career is easier to endure if it is
something that one is passionate about doing. In the health care field there are several challenges
that healthcare workers must face. The role of the Physician Assistant also known as PA holds great
responsibility and has challenges; some of which only a Physician Assistant would face. One
challenge that is specific to Physician Assistants is the question of competency by the patient.

Description Of A Physician Assistant
As a child, I was controlled by this fear of the dark. The dark brought much uncertainty, and it
always made me feel uncomfortable. The absence of light to me meant the absence of knowledge–
for it was never certain what hid behind the dark. It was always a night–light in the hallway that
released that anxiety in me. Nevertheless, there was nothing like the warmth of the sun in the
mornings that truly brought me at ease. No matter how powerful its beams are, your eyes only allow
you to see a fraction of the light the sun has to offer. I could never forget the day I discovered a
whole new spectrum of light–one that affirmed my purpose as a Physician Assistant.
Her smile was as warm as the Peruvian afternoon sun, causing her sun–burned cheeks to glow even
brighter. Although she was responsive to my requests, she was having a difficult time making eye
contact with me. I kneeled on the muddy floor making sure I could get at eye–level. Her blood
pressure was the last of the vital signs needed before she was ready to see a medical provider. "Luz,
can you pull your sleeve back for me and relax with your feet planar to the floor? I want to get a
good reading of your blood pressure", I said in Spanish. Here in this small village of Cachora, Peru,
Spanish was all they could speak. It is times like these that made me feel so grateful for being
bilingual–giving me the opportunity to speak directly to patients and provide transparent
communication and care. Our triage room had

A Study On Physician Assistants
Somewhere during the last two years of my college courses, I was introduced to physician
assistants. The thing that appealed to me the most is how much flexibility there can be within the
career. There are a lot of options after graduation to work in a hospital, as a first assist, and in
various clinics. Also, as a PA, you have the ability to create a plan of action for your patients, but
you also have the potential to work as a team to create efficiency. There are also so many
opportunities that other healthcare fields do not have. PAs have options to work in different
specialties while MDs have to do additional residency work in order to go into a different field.
Living in Mississippi for the past five years, I have also seen the demand for PAs grow. A lot of
people did not know what a PA was, some even thinking it was a certificate program, but I have
steadily seen more people growing accustomed to them and realizing they are a vital part of health
care. As for myself, it took me some time to also realize what a PA was and what they do. I always
knew I wanted to go into healthcare from an early age. When I was younger, my mom worked in a
small nursing home that was across from my school. After school, my mom would pick me up and
bring me to the nursing home until her shift was over. I would sit with some of the patients in their
rooms or do puzzles in the game room with them. The day my favorite patient was transported to the
hospital and later on died, I cried all

Growth trends in this field are very broad. Billing specialist, patient account representative, claims

mid $30,000 to lower $40,000 (Salary.com, 2011), but depending on certain factors, can excel
beyond this. Additionally, medical billers must also have solid personal skills; customer service,
patience, compassion and understanding when dealing with patients, physicians, hospital staff and
other associated personnel is a must. Medical Coding Medical coding, on the other hand, deals more
closely with patient medical records. Medical coders work in the billing office, or "back office" of
medical practices or hospitals. Alphanumeric codes are assigned to all illnesses, injuries and
treatments. Medical procedures are coded for the purpose of classifying diseases in numerical
sequences for identification and data collection purposes, similar to the Dewey Decimal System in

I Am A Physician Assistant
Ten. Nine. Eight. Seven. My eyes started to lose the strength to stay open and my vision began to
blur. The tight grip I had on the anesthesiologist's hand slowly withered away.
As an active thirteen–year–old who spent his afternoons and weekends playing basketball, I was
taken aback when I first heard of my atrial septal defect and inevitable open heart surgery. I could
not fathom being away from the court for so long. But what seemed like the end of my passion for
basketball ultimately lead to a new passion – to become a physician assistant.
Throughout my experience as a surgical patient, I always noticed three things my medical team
never failed to perform: inform, educate, and care for me. Through my frequent visits to the hospital
I began to notice that these ideals were essential in every successful physician–patient relationship.
As I progressed in my career as a student, I came to realize that the academic and extracurricular
activities I was involved in were helping me perform those very qualities. I vividly remember sitting
next to my doctor with my knees trembling as he tried to explain my condition. I realized that the
ability to advise a young, scared, or uninformed individual was an indispensable tool to any

Medical Assistant Job Analysis

  • 1. Medical Assistant Job Analysis I chose California's average Medical Assistant hiring rate and wage for 2012–2015 as my topic for my final topic. This topic relates to my work because it will show me how likely I will be able to find a job as a Medical Assistant in California. It will also give me an idea of what my hourly, monthly, and yearly pay will be. The pay and hiring rate in California will help me in the future with my job because it will allow me to know if I will be able to find a Medical Assisting job in California easily or not, and it will also be able to help me see about how much I will be making every month so I can calculate my monthly budget. My topic of California's average pay and hiring rate also gives me a little bit of information about other jobs in the medical field as well that I need to know for my future goals and planning. ... California is expected to have one of the best job opportunities for Medical Assistants for many years to come. (Top states. Web. 11 Mar. 2017). Every year from 2012–2015 there were over 80,000 people working as a Medical Assistant in California alone. ("Medical Assistants". Bls.gov. N.p., 2017. Web. 11 Mar. 2017). If I wanted to work in a place that had a little better pay for medical assistants the hiring stats show that Los Angeles, San Diego, and the Anaheim areas would be the best place to work. I found that even though California has a 6% higher cost of living than the rest of the united states, the Medical Assistants that work in California get offered some of the highest pay rates. • 9. The Pain Of A Physician Assistant Terrified was an understatement. "Surgery....surgery...surgery..." was the only word that I heard echoed through the room , and suddenly images of knifes and flesh being cut invaded my ten years old mind. Peritonitis, was what I had, "unfortunately" I thought then, yet "fortunately" I know now. My calling in life was then discovered and for that I will be forever grateful. Petrified and alone, I was yearning for someone to understand my fear and explain what is about to happen to me; to clarify what the doctors said. That 's when a Physician Assistant walked in and changed my life forever. I will always remember Julie 's smile and reassuring voice which filled me with a sense of calm and genuine comfort. She was carrying a doll and highlighted what my surgery was all about. As I lay in bed recovering after surgery, I decided that one day I will be like Julie and I will help people feel secure and safe in the healthcare setting. "One more bite Ethan", I said armed with a toy truck, as I was attempting to feed his frail, cold, and hairless little body who's eyes were full of life. Ethan was my friend, I came to visit him every Friday hopefully at his home but commonly at the hospital. "It's almost over Ethan, you will soon stop hurting my little sunshine" I said to him, as I hugged his skeletal body. He looked up to me and without a sound he made perfect sense. That Sunday morning will forever be inked in my heart, that was the last day I saw my four year old friend, but the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The profession was created in the 1960s because physicians began to notice that there was a shortage of physicians practicing in primary care. To solve for the shortage of physicians, Eugene A. Sted Jr.,MD of Duke University gathered four men who had medical training in the military and created the first class of PAs in 1965.This first physician assistant class graduated from Duke University on October 6th, 1967 and the profession had great support from the medical community and the federal government claiming the PA profession was a "creative solution to physician shortages."1 Today, there is still ... Being that family medicine PAs see patients throughout the duration of their life, they also see patients with a variety of illnesses. The family medicine specialty can be considered a "generalist" specialty because they see patients for all things and not just focusing on one specific specialty which is perhaps why this specialty is favorable and the most popular specialty within the physician assistant profession. There are many duties and responsibilities that a physician assistants job includes. Although physician assistants practice under the supervision of a physician, PAs and physicians typically see their patients independently of each other. Because PAs will usually see their patients without a physician in the room, they are able to write prescriptions for medications to help treat their patients. The brain development of a child can be seriously affected by their well being during the early years. Genetic illness, social/ economic factors, culture and influence of carers, stress and harm caused by lack of stimulation, engagement and positive relationships can all influence development. Signs such as behavioural problems, low self–esteem, apprehension, lack of concentration and attention seeking could all be signs of emotional distress. Schools need to provide a safe, positive, supporting environment with equal emphasis on pastoral care as much as academics. A group of people huddled together discussing treatment plans and options. At that present time, rounding was just for physicians and physician assistants. But dietitians were recently included, so I got to watch as the providers presented their cases to one another. One individual stood out above the rest as she was presenting to her attending; she was confident, poised, and didn't skip a beat during her presentation. Once the meeting was completed she sat down next to me and we started talking. She introduced herself as Becky, a physician assistant. Having never heard of the role before, she explained that she does examinations, diagnosing, carrying out investigations, as well as treatments and prescribing. Becky could tell I appeared very interested in this, and asked if I was able to spend some time shadowing to learn more about her role. The next patient she saw, I was able to go in the room with her and watch her examine a new patient, discuss his course of treatment, and follow up with the attending. She took me through the entire process of seeing a new patient from a PA perspective. That was all I really needed to get the wheels in my head turning for a new career. The Digital Assistant, Or Pda The personal digital assistant, or PDA, was a small hand–held electronic device that was intended for use as a simple organizer, including features like a calendar and tasks list. Many movies back in the sixties would depict computers or other devices that had the ability to plan and organize events with limited human interaction. Due to the production of several science fiction titles such as Star Trek, Star Wars, and A Space Odyssey, the early conceptions of such beings as cognitive personal assistants came to the public eye. Early examples of such devices included "Star Trek's" talking computer, the Hal 9000, and R2D2; devices that could in most cases assist or come up with plans instead of requiring humans to do the organization, reasoning, or brainstorming of all factors in the decision ... BACKGROUND Within the past few months, I became very interested in becoming an executive assistant. Living on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, it is very easy to make quick money by waiting tables or bartending, which is what I have done for 4 years now. I recently had a child in July and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Over the past few months I have been working with this company and finally figured this is the perfect fit for me. The fact that I am a very organized person helps me tremendously with this job. I have always been a leader or "bossy" as some would say, and this job fits me perfectly. Meeting new people, getting to design and control a website and social media page, playing with numbers, managing a company, and learning so much more about construction than just building a house is what really made my choice for this career. REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTRY TO BE AN EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT The minimum requirement for an executive assistant is an associate's degree in office administration or office management. Depending on what level position, the company might require one to obtain a bachelor's degree, which I am close to finishing. Accounting, business management, and business administration are just a few of the majors one could pursue for this career ("Executive Assistant"). Although a simple bachelor's degree in business is enough, if one is interested in an executive position in the medical field, the company might require them to know medical terminology and medical insurance practices. For a law firm, the same thing would apply. That person will need to know about legal office procedures and processing legal information. My interest in a Resident Assistant position comes from my desire to help. By living my life intentionally, I hope that others will follow suit. 4) Community Development What is the importance of community? Please talk about your experience with working with diverse groups of people and how you interact with others that are different from you in a community setting. Community is the difference between being and belonging. It is just too easy to just be a part of a group, but to feel like you belong to the group is far more meaningful. You can go to the meetings and know everyone's names but none of that means anything if you don't feel that you are a significant component in a group. To be a part of a community means that you are a part of group where inclusion, support and friendship are highly–regarded. The beauty about community is that everyone has their own gifts, talents, opinions and experiences to offer to it, therefore making each member valuable. As a Resident Assistant, I intend to create an inclusive community in which each person is accepted and encouraged regardless of race, gender, religion, sexual–orientation or ability. By promoting diversity in my community, I hope that everyone gains a sense of belonging. In my community, I will have an open mind and tolerant attitude and will encourage my residents to do the same. Because understanding that no two residents are the same, I will conduct myself through equity. I will try to learn about my residents individually so if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One pro is, being able to help people. Some are in it just to help people and cure them of their sickness. Just to be able to help someone is an enjoyment to them. CMAs can work anywhere, between nursing home facilities, offices, and hospitals of course. Some build relationships with their patients and some may say that isn't a pro but it isn't good to just be rude and dull to a patient. It's better to be happy and optimistic around a patient. You can be certified to work in any state. Instead of being tied down to one state only, the certification allows the person to work anywhere across the country. You work regular hours. Unlike some workers in the medical profession: nurses, doctors, etc. CMAs get off at the exact time that's on their schedule, no overtimes or anything and they know their schedule. There are plenty of jobs. The field is to grow at least by 23% by 2022. The drawbacks of becoming a CMA is it can be very tiring. Especially working in a hospital or a nursing home, the patients could be a little too much or extremely sick and they may need extra care and that may be tiring. Some CMAs should perform both administrative and clinical duties which can become very frustrating and overwhelming. Another drawback is the pay rate and the amount of schooling. CMAs typically receive lower wages than most medical professions and do about the same amount of schooling as doctors and nurses and doing much more, they don't get much at all. Compared to RNs they make $31,000 less and compared to doctors they make $171,000 less. But most people that go into that field probably aren't in it for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 139. Description Of A Physician Assistant As a child, I was controlled by this fear of the dark. The dark brought much uncertainty, and it always made me feel uncomfortable. The absence of light to me meant the absence of knowledge– for it was never certain what hid behind the dark. It was always a night–light in the hallway that released that anxiety in me. Nevertheless, there was nothing like the warmth of the sun in the mornings that truly brought me at ease. No matter how powerful its beams are, your eyes only allow you to see a fraction of the light the sun has to offer. I could never forget the day I discovered a whole new spectrum of light–one that affirmed my purpose as a Physician Assistant. Her smile was as warm as the Peruvian afternoon sun, causing her sun–burned cheeks to glow even brighter. Although she was responsive to my requests, she was having a difficult time making eye contact with me. I kneeled on the muddy floor making sure I could get at eye–level. Her blood pressure was the last of the vital signs needed before she was ready to see a medical provider. "Luz, can you pull your sleeve back for me and relax with your feet planar to the floor? I want to get a good reading of your blood pressure", I said in Spanish. Here in this small village of Cachora, Peru, Spanish was all they could speak. It is times like these that made me feel so grateful for being bilingual–giving me the opportunity to speak directly to patients and provide transparent communication and care. • 143. A Study On Physician Assistants Somewhere during the last two years of my college courses, I was introduced to physician assistants. The thing that appealed to me the most is how much flexibility there can be within the career. There are a lot of options after graduation to work in a hospital, as a first assist, and in various clinics. Also, as a PA, you have the ability to create a plan of action for your patients, but you also have the potential to work as a team to create efficiency. There are also so many opportunities that other healthcare fields do not have. PAs have options to work in different specialties while MDs have to do additional residency work in order to go into a different field. Living in Mississippi for the past five years, I have also seen the demand for PAs grow. A lot of people did not know what a PA was, some even thinking it was a certificate program, but I have steadily seen more people growing accustomed to them and realizing they are a vital part of health care. As for myself, it took me some time to also realize what a PA was and what they do. I always knew I wanted to go into healthcare from an early age. When I was younger, my mom worked in a small nursing home that was across from my school. After school, my mom would pick me up and bring me to the nursing home until her shift was over. I would sit with some of the patients in their rooms or do puzzles in the game room with them. The day my favorite patient was transported to the hospital and later on died, I cried all ... Of these many fields, the three that I choose to discuss are Medical Billing, Medical Coding and Medical Assistant. All three careers are of high demand in the medical industry and each requires the need of basic classes, with a couple of varied courses, depending on the field. Basic requirements for all include a high school diploma or GED. Most require an Associates degree, consisting of specific major courses and general liberal arts courses. Growth trends in this field are very broad. Billing specialist, patient account representative, claims processor, analyst, auditor, collector and reviewer are only some of the many options available and require additional specific certification and training. The average salary for medical billers ranges mid $30,000 to lower $40,000 (Salary.com, 2011), but depending on certain factors, can excel beyond this. Additionally, medical billers must also have solid personal skills; customer service, patience, compassion and understanding when dealing with patients, physicians, hospital staff and other associated personnel is a must. Medical Coding Medical coding, on the other hand, deals more closely with patient medical records. Medical coders work in the billing office, or "back office" of medical practices or hospitals. Alphanumeric codes are assigned to all illnesses, injuries and treatments. Medical procedures are coded for the purpose of classifying diseases in numerical sequences for identification and data collection purposes, similar to the Dewey Decimal System in libraries. Coding specialists review medical records and assign numeric codes for the diagnoses identified and procedures performed. • 151. I Am A Physician Assistant Ten. Nine. Eight. Seven. My eyes started to lose the strength to stay open and my vision began to blur. The tight grip I had on the anesthesiologist's hand slowly withered away. As an active thirteen–year–old who spent his afternoons and weekends playing basketball, I was taken aback when I first heard of my atrial septal defect and inevitable open heart surgery. I could not fathom being away from the court for so long. But what seemed like the end of my passion for basketball ultimately lead to a new passion – to become a physician assistant. Throughout my experience as a surgical patient, I always noticed three things my medical team never failed to perform: inform, educate, and care for me. Through my frequent visits to the hospital I began to notice that these ideals were essential in every successful physician–patient relationship. As I progressed in my career as a student, I came to realize that the academic and extracurricular activities I was involved in were helping me perform those very qualities. I vividly remember sitting next to my doctor with my knees trembling as he tried to explain my condition. I realized that the ability to advise a young, scared, or uninformed individual was an indispensable tool to any practitioner. Just as my physician was able to fulfill his duty to inform me, I informed others through ROOP NYC. ROOP is a youth mentorship program that set out to introduce high school students to the intense college application process. As a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
