The document outlines ideas for topics and designs to include in a booklet about veganism aimed at teenagers and young adults. Some topic ideas include profiles of vegan celebrities, interviews with vegan bloggers, information on vegan-friendly clothing and makeup brands, and the health and environmental benefits of a vegan diet. Design elements discussed are using sans-serif fonts, including photos and illustrations, employing varied but coordinated color schemes, and balancing informal and formal writing styles. The document also provides mood board examples and discusses potential color schemes and fonts for the booklet cover and interior pages.
2. Vegan Booklet Topics
• Vegan Celebrities – Create a mini fact file on each personality. Include information such as who they are,
their age, when they went vegan & why they went vegan. Possible people to include will be Alicia
Silverstone, Alex Baldwin, Ellen DeGeneres & Ellie Goulding.
• As well as celebrities, I will also conduct interviews with Vegan bloggers to find out how and why they
became vegan as well as any make up and clothing products/brands they like. This will help give my
audience advice if they are wanting to turn vegan and don’t know where to start as well as shed light on
some brands which are vegan and do not test on animals.
• Multiple page spread – This multiple page spread will consist of an interview with a vegan blogger in
which I ask her questions about all things vegan.
• Clothing and makeup brands themselves could be a page in this booklet. Giving the audience information
about what make up and clothing brands are suitable for vegans will allow them to gain information as this
is possibly one of the hardest things to change when going vegan
• Treatment of animals and the environment – maybe the biggest reason why people go vegan. I’ll include
stories of products such as Foie Gras and how being vegan effects our oceans and rainforests.
• Health benefits – How turning vegan can help improve a person’s lifestyle will be a topic I cover in this
booklet. Health risks such as becoming diabetic can be decreased when a vegan lifestyle is obtained and so
this will be a subject I cover within this article.
• Advert – Include an advert as a form of promoting something vegan. This could be a clothing brand or
makeup brand which is vegan. It will also allow my audience to gather more information in another form
than just text.
3. • Fonts – As this booklet will be suited towards teenagers and young adults I shall use san serif fonts as,
rather than Serif fonts, they will appear more modern. The same font styles will be present throughout the
booklet to keep consistency.
• Text – When I am writing my articles and fact files to go inside the booklet, the register will be informative
however slightly colloquial to suit my age range. At one end of my age range is teenagers who may be
more used to reading causal text which isn’t in big paragraphs. To allow the booklet to appeal to them,
areas will be filled with informal text such as on pages where I discuss vegan celebrities. The formal text
will come in the form of facts and figures and may appear in areas where a serious approach needs to be
taken such as health risks and negative impacts. This will help the older end of the spectrum be equally
suitable for this booklet.
• Imagery – Imagery in this booklet will be taken seriously as any images which are slightly unpleasant may
shock readers and make them feel uncomfortable even if they are informative. However imagery will also
be used throughout the booklet to anchor the text and provide context for my audience. This could be
when talking about vegan products or celebrities.
• Colour Schemes – My colour scheme will be very broad throughout this booklet as many different people
will need to be attracted to it. There will be no stereotypical gender bias colours to attract one gender
more than the other however some colour schemes for certain pieces will be designed to match the topic.
For example, if I am explaining how a vegan lifestyle will give a positive impact to the environment, I will
use a colour scheme relating to nature.
Vegan Booklet Art Styles
4. • As I already have an idea to include vegan recipes in this booklet as a starter to someone becoming vegan,
I could change the art style of it and present it in an alternative way by creating it into an infographic
instead.
• A recipe for something vegan is another idea which could be effective. Some quick, easy and cheap for if
my audience try out the vegan lifestyle and are getting used to it.
• Another idea I have is to list 13 vegan friendly cities and how they obtain this. This can also include vegan
restaurants in these cities. This may prove to not be effective as these cities are in the US, a place where
my booklet may not be as widespread as in the UK but could still be a popular choice as Veganuary is a
worldwide organisation.
• Many do not know where they would find nutrients if they were to take on a vegan diet. This next idea for
an infographic is to show all the different sources of protein, calcium and fibre etc.. in vegan foods and
how much they would need a day according to the RDA.
Vegan Booklet Infographics Topics
5. • An idea I could do is instead of having a page with a few celebrity fact files on is have one page dedicated
to one celebrity, still with information such as their name, age, when they became vegan and why but
explain it in more depth. Examples could be celebrities mentioned before; Alicia Silverstone, Alex Baldwin,
Ellen DeGeneres & Ellie Goulding
• Interesting facts about being vegan could made into a fact file. Information such as where vital nutrients
can be found e.g. calcium, protein, fibre. This could spread into another double page spread however be a
fact file at the same time. It would include vegan facts from how they are saving the planet and animals
each day to how many people are turning vegan each day.
• Another fact file idea would be to list places which are vegan e.g. vegan restaurants and mention
information about them. This could also be done with vegan make up and clothing brands as I feel these
two areas will be what people turning vegan will struggle with.
Vegan Booklet Fact File Ideas
6. Mood BoardI have an idea to include vegan celebrities in
my booklet and inform the viewer on them
and why they went vegan. Could help people
when learning about the topic as well as
encourage them to try the lifestyle.
Some potential ideas for
graphics and the art styles I
may include in my booklet.
Another topic I may include in my
booklet: vegan make up/clothing
brands. This would allow me to research
what brands are out there that are fully
vegan and we don’t know about. Show
my audience that there are vegan
alternatives to everything if they were to
go vegan.
I will include the Veganuary logo
in the booklet. These are some
coloured ones which I could use
depending on the colour
scheme for my booklet.
Potential fonts for my
booklet to use not only on
the front cover but all the
way through to keep a
consistent style making
each page similar to the
next. Sans serif fonts
appeal to a younger
audience as they look more
modern.
Title for my booklet.
7. Fonts
The title I am using for my booklet will be ‘A Guide To:
Veganism’. As my audience will be teenagers and young
adults, I wanted to use a sans serif font to look more
modern and hopefully allow it to suit more to their age
range than an older one. A bold font, along with being in a
big size will allow the text to stand out from the brochure
attracting attention and making it the main focal point of
the leaflet.
I like this font as it is all in capitals as well as being sans serif.
I feel the capitals will be an extra feature to draw people in
to the booklet and make the title clear as well as standing
out from any other text on the front as that would all be in
lowercase.
I like this font as it’s easy to read however looks very
modern and fits well with a theme I want to run with in my
booklet, which is to keep the theme modern to entice my
target audience. I believe this would contrast well with a
sans serif font such as Calibri or Helvetica when these are
used inside the booklet.
This final font stood out to me as it is in bold and so made
me realise it will definitely stand out from a long distance
on the front cover of my booklet. I also liked this font as it
is not quite modern but not fully traditional and so is a
nice inbetween.
8. Colour Scheme
To match the red pink coloured Veganuary logo, seen on the mood board I went to paletton.com to find a
similar colour in order to use it on the title on the front cover; this will not only allow the word ‘vegan’ to
stand out but also allow fluidity through the booklet and a constant house style to be kept if I used this
colour. However if this colour is used too much throughout the front cover, some audience members could
be detracted from it as it could symbolize a booklet only for females as this is seen as a slightly gender bias
colour. This could also be seen with the blue. A combination of both may need to be used to balance the
front cover.
I could use green as the main colour on my front cover or through the
booklet. This would connote to the viewer the idea of greenery, nature
and fruit and vegetables, the main food group vegans eat. This would
remind my audience of what benefits a vegan diet has on the
environment. By using different shades I would be able to create
designs that are more intricate and appealing.
Pastel colours are a good example of a colour scheme which wouldn’t be too overwhelming as
all the colours would be subtle in the backgrounds of pages however allow the booklet to have
colour but not distracting from the information on each page. A mix of different pastel colours
will keep the house style gender neutral.
