This is the front cover of the the ‘Little
White lies’ magazine. It is a magazine
about truth and movies.
The front cover is mostly based on the
image, which is the theme of the
Muppets, which comes out every
three months. It takes up most of the
front cover.
Where the title only takes up 1/3 of
the page. In a circle at the top of the
page. This is a theme with every of
their magazines.
The imagery that they use is very eye
catching for the audience as it is the
first thig that they look at.
4. Existing Product
This is the front cover of the ‘Empire’
Magazine. It is about movies and reviews.
It is similar to the ‘Little white lies’
magazine as it uses a clear colour scheme
that matches the movie that they are
writing about.
However, it looks different to the ‘Little
white lies’ magazine because this magazine
has a lot more text on it then just the title.
There is still the big image that is eye
catching for the audience but it is covered
by the text that makes you look even more
at this magazine.
It also uses persuasive words like ‘Free’ to
draw the audience in even more. The ‘little
white lies magazine does not have this.
5. Existing Product
Here is a double page spread in the
magazine ‘Little white lies’. As the
front cover was very targeted towards
its theme of the Muppets. It stays on
the topic with it’s big image and little
text. It is aesthetically pleasing to the
audience as it has bright colours and
brilliant illustrations. You would really
want to look at it.
It also has text on the right side. It is
bold and easy to read. It is a quote
from the Muppets movie. It adds to
the aesthetically pleasing parts of the
product.
6. Existing Product
Here is the double page spread of
the ‘empire’ magazine.
It is very different to the other
magazine, ‘little white lies’. This has
a lot of text on it. It is spread
around a big image (from the
movie.)
However it is similar to the ‘little
white lies’ magazine as it uses
bright colours through out the
whole magazine.
7. Existing Product
In my opinion, I think that this
magazine would appeal to all people.
Young and old because the ‘little
white lies’ magazine is targeted
towards anyone who loves movies.
The writers of this magazine used
their design skills, such as colour
theory, good quality illustration and
various fonts, to create a high-quality
magazine to draw in audiences of all
ages that love movies.
8. Existing Product
In my opinion, the ‘empire’ magazine
uses the bright colours and text to
make the audience appeal to their
magazine. They also, like the ‘Little
white lies’ magazine use big images
from films to draw the audience more
to their product.
Therefore, I think that, like the other
magazine that this magazine is aimed
at people of all ages who like movies.
10. Existing Product
This is the front cover of the women’s
magazine ‘Cosmopolitan’. It is about getting
the latest gossip and news about the stars.
It also includes extras such as tips and
advice.
The writers put the celebrity image in the
middle of the page. This automatically gets
the audiences attention as they are waring
brightly coloured cloths in comparison to
the different coloured background.
There is also a big, bold font title at the top
of the page which also matches the colour
scheme.
For the subtitles, they are in bold to stand
out to the audience of what they are going
to be reading.
11. Existing Product
Here is a similar magazine to the ‘Cosmopolitan’. It
is the front cover ‘Vogue’ magazine. Like the
‘Cosmopolitan’ it is about women’s entertainment
and fashion.
Similarly, ‘Vogue’ uses the celebrity’s image in the
middle of their front cover as this makes it eye
catching for the audience. They also used the same
technique such as eye contact with the reader.
The tittle ‘Vogue’ is in a similar place to the
‘Cosmopolitan’. At the top and they also use a
bright coloured white font to permanently state
their title to the audience.
They use a bold multicoloured font for their
subtitles to match their feminine colour scheme of
pink, orange and white. This is similar to
‘Cosmopolitan’.
12. Existing Product
Here is a double page spread of the
‘Cosmopolitan’. It is similar to the front
cover as it uses the same colour, pink. The
rectangular layout with the text make it
easy to look at for the audience and nice
to look at so they will want to keep
reading it. This makes it feel
stereotypically feminine and looks like it is
aimed at feminine people. The pink also
draws attention to the star in the box as it
contrasts with the white background.
They also use big, bold text for the quote
in the middle rectangle. This makes the
reader look at it and remember it.
13. Existing Product
Here is a double page spread of
‘Vogue’ magazine. It is similar to
the ‘Cosmopolitan’ as they use
tiny font for their celebrity stories,
but they have placed the whole
layout so much differently to the
‘Cosmopolitan’.
They still use light feminine
colours like the ‘Cosmopolitan’
such as light blue and red to
appeal aesthetically pleasing to
their feminine audience.
14. Existing Product
In my opinion, I think that the
‘Cosmopolitan’ is directed at
Women of all ages to give
them entertainment and
gossip on all the latest news
and stars.
Also, I say this because of the
clear stereotypical womanly
colour schemes e.g. pink and
red. This gives a very feminine
vibe to the product.
15. Existing Product
In my opinion, like the
‘Cosmopolitan’, ‘Vogue’
magazine is aimed at women
to give them their
entertainment and fashion
they need in their lives. Like
the ‘Cosmopolitan’ they use
traditional ‘feminine’ colours
to aesthetically please their
audience. This might push
them to buy their product.
17. Existing Product
Here is the front cover of the ‘Vegan food and living’
magazine. It is a magazine about how to live healthy as a
vegan. It has various vegan friendly recipes that the
reader can try out for themselves.
Firstly, what grabs the reader’s eye straight away is the
food imagery in the middle of the page. This happens to
be a Christmas version of the magazine, so they have
used warm, festive colours such as red and green to
make the magazine appeal to the reader. They have used
these colours to label their subtitles so it should be
highlighted to the audience what they are getting in the
product.
In their title they have used two differently sized texts to
make the fact that this magazine is about vegan food
very prompt to the reader. This could make it easy for
the reader to find if they are looking for a vegan
magazine.
18. Existing Product
This is the front cover of a magazine called
‘Vegan for life’. Similar to the magazine
‘Vegan food and living’ it is a magazine about
veganism and recipes that will make your life
healthier and happier.
Like the magazine ‘Vegan food and living’
they have placed a big image of a vegan food
in the middle of the front page. They have
cleverly used the coloured font for the big
title to match the vegetables in the image
below. This magazine also happens to be
Christmas themed which is the same theme
as the other magazine ‘Vegan food and
living’.
It also has small text surrounding the image
which is like the other product.
19. Existing Product
This is a page from the ‘Vegan food and living’
magazine. It is a recipe for a warm looking
chicken pie. They have put the image of the food
at the side of the page. This makes it look
traditional and adds to the Christmas theme
being traditional.
The font for the title at the top looks
aesthetically pleasing to the audience as it
matches the Christmassy theme of the product.
The rest of the font is small and traditionally
looking as it would in a cookbook.
What ever the theme of food the font of the
titles try to match. This makes it pleasing for the
reader to look at and may make them want to
buy the product.
20. Existing Product
This is a page from inside the magazine
‘Vegan for life’. This talks about a woman
called Dana and how she had to eat what
she was given in childhood.
This is different to the ‘Vegan food and
living’ as this magazine has less recipes in it
and more stories for the reader to sink their
teeth into.
However they do use similar techniques
such as putting their key words in bold font
for their subtitles to make them stand out.
They also like the ‘Vegan food and living’
magazine continue in the colour theme of
Christmas by having red coloured text at
the top right of the page.
21. Existing Product
In my opinion, the ‘Vegan food
and living’ magazine is most
importantly aimed at an
audience of vegans or people
who want to become vegan.
With their use of big font on the
front cover spelling clearly
VEGAN on it. It will make this
audience find it easy and want
to buy their product.
22. Existing Product
In my opinion like the ‘vegan
food and living’ magazine, the
magazine ‘Vegan for life’ is to be
aimed at the same audience. All
vegan and people who want to
become vegan for a happier,
green lifestyle.
23. Research Analysis
One common feature that features in these different magazines are the image on the
front page is always big in the centre as it catches the audience's eyes. This hooks
them into reading the magazine as they find it aesthetically pleasing to look at.
Another common feature that features in these different magazines is the title on
the front page. It is always at the top and in a bold font to stand out to the audience.
The final common feature that features in these different magazines is the different
colour that the editors/publishers pick out to complement and stand out to each
other. This make the audience like the look of the product and makes them want to
buy it.
One aspect of research I will use in my work is the colours that I will match. I will
specifically choose a colour for the text that complements in the colour of the image
e.g. black and white, yellow and purple. The other colour scheme that I could do is if
an image ,that I have created, has a specific colour scheme such as the vegan
magazine. If you say ‘Vegan’ you automatically think of green leaves and colourful
veg. I could go with a specific theme.
Another aspect that I like from my research is the selling techniques that they use to
sell their products. Such as when they exclaim “Free” in bold. It makes the audience
buy your produce even though they are not getting a free product.
