The student conducted an interview with a classmate as part of a group project. They interviewed each other about different topics - the student discussed their workplace, Neon Sheep, while their partner discussed Manchester United football club. The student found the interview practice useful, but realized some areas for improvement. They struggled with typing responses in real-time and some questions did not elicit clear answers. From this experience, the student learned to record interviews, ask clearer questions, and give interviewees time to respond without pressure. Overall, the interview experiment provided valuable lessons that will help the student conduct better interviews in the future.

1. My Reflection
For my factual project I had to conduct an interview with someone else in the group as we
were put into groups of two and we then had to choose a subject or anything which we
knew a lot of information about. I decided on choosing my subject on Neon Sheep which is
the shop which I work at and the person who I was interviewing chose Man United which
was a subject I didn’t know much on which was interesting. I enjoyed asking the person my
interview questions when conducting this because it gave me an idea to how it would be
when it comes to my final interview and it was a great practice of asking the questions is
specific tones, body language etc. I also enjoyed receiving the feedback from the questions
asked and these were detailed responses which is great because then I know I have
achieved asking questions which aren’t just a yes or no answer as I included ‘why?’ at the
end. The research process beforehand where I could find out a few facts to ask the person I
enjoyed because this was interesting and when receiving responses to things, I had no clue
on was good because I learnt new facts on football. These things link with what I found went
well within the interview and I think my interview looked professional and the questions I
asked were applied in a professional way as I thought about how I typed these out. Another
thing which went well was the amount of feedback I received which I wasn’t expecting as
much as I managed to get so I was glad on that the person knew and understood all the
questions which I asked adding on from this I also didn’t talk once I had asked the question I
let them give me as much information back as they could so I didn’t interrupt them or make
them forget, and they also started the responses with what the question was which made it
make more sense and like and actual interview.
However, my interview wasn’t perfect because a few problems did occur such as the
location which we chose didn’t start of quite but gradually became a lot louder although I
didn’t have to record anything it was still quite off putting, and I found it hard to
concentrate when asking them questions so moving to a better location with no one around
would have made it a lot easier. I also struggled when collecting the responses as I had
chosen to type up the response when asking which was time consuming because I couldn’t
really keep up when they was talking I had to end up bullet pointing and then putting these
into full responses which I found harder to do and I would have rather recorded the audio
and used that even though I am working on the print side because I had realised this was a
bad idea. Lastly, once I had gotten to asking them the questions I had came across a
question which didn’t really make much sense as it was one idea from using the internet
and the person who I interviewed didn’t really know which type of response I was looking
for therefore I did have to miss that question out which was annoying because I then felt
like I didn’t ask as much questions as I would have liked to originally. However, this is one of
the things which I have now learnt and that is to make sure I read through my questions
before asking them and I will do this when it comes to asking my fashion related questions
so my audience will understand what perspective I’m asking and the type of response.
Another thing which I have learnt is to take time when asking the questions and make sure I
m not just rushing them to get the responses because giving a slower tone when reading the

2. questions will help my audience to really think about the response and I can focus on this
improvement for my final factual interview and to make sure I am using professional
language. The last point I have learnt from this interview experiment is that it is much easier
to either use audio or even record the interview rather than typing up notes to the
responses because it is very time consuming, and I feel like I have missed out several points
which they might have mentioned and could have been important as I found it hard to type
up that fast. I feel if I would have recorded this could have made a much better impact
because I could have looked back on it for specific things which went well or didn’t and how
I presented myself to the other person, but I didn’t think into too much detail. And thought
just typing up would be easier but now I know I can use this for my final interview to look
into maybe using audio record to catch every detail that they say. When being interviewed
it was a new thing for me as I’ve only ever been interviewed once before this and answering
questions on the spot can sometimes make me feel under pressure and in the moment, I
can forget what to say when I know the answer to the question and especially as the other
person specialises in video, so we did have to audio record me when I was giving the
responses. However, it did go well, and I managed to make sure my responses were longer
and made sense for myself this has informed me for the process when it comes to
interviewing someone else because I need to make sure they are comfortable and don’t feel
under pressure with the amount of questions I ask or if I chose to audio record I wouldn’t
want them to feel frightened that they may mess up because it can be a lot of pressure and
on the spot sort of moment. Overall, I am happy with this experiment and I am glad that I
got to experiment this because I have learnt a lot of important points which I wouldn’t have
and I can now improve on these for the future interview which will come for the factual
project and also in all my other projects to come.
