3. Research
I researched three different radio interviews that were interviews. This meant
I could add anything extra from them to add to my own interview to improve
it. From researching different radio stations, listened to the different sound
effects that they used, if they used music in the background or even a voice
over. I also, listened to what they were talking about and the language (how
they spoke – informal or formal). This helped to produce my work as it gave
me ideas for my own and how to speak to the interviewee and how to
respond to the answer given. I then researched for the audience profile for
the age range, gender, psychographic and social status. I chose an appropriate
audience profile so then I knew what kind of audience will be listening to my
radio production and how to make it so they will listen to it and like it, which
is important. If I could do this again I would, research my own jingle. By this, I
would listen to jingles from other radio stations and think of what would fit
with mine.
4. Planning
I wrote my ideas down as a mind map to help me plan for my radio
production. The first one was three ideas on what to do on the radio and then
expanded on that and the second mind map was for my final idea which I
took ideas from the other mind map and wrote down more. This helped so I
could look back at it if I needed to do. This also helped me to write my
proposal up as my ideas were on here. Some weaknesses for planning was I
wasn’t sure what to do for my radio production as it is my weakest topic. If I
could plan again, I would plan my own jingle out. Another part of planning,
was my script. I wrote out a script so then we both knew what to say or talk
about. We both did a practice run through and then actually did it a couple of
times. I planned out any health and safety issues that might be around us
when we were recording or in the computer room. This helped as it made us
aware of any hazards in the rooms. I also, planned out any contingency issues.
This helped me, just in case any of those potential issues happen. If I planned
again, I would add another idea to my mind map. This would help me choose
and plan out for the radio production.
5. Time Management
I think I have used my time wisely even though I didn’t use my schedule I
made. I have managed my time wisely for this unit. I have got all my work in
at the deadlines. However, I should have made my jingle which I didn’t. This
would have filled my time more. I should have planned out some more
questions too so then my radio production was longer. An improvement for
next time could be to follow my schedule. This would help as it will give me
more time to do my work if I stuck to it.
6. Technical Qualities
I am going to compare my work to a Conor McGregor Interview with Famous
People as I have used this interview when I was researching different
interviews. This interview is quite similar to my work as they start off the
whole interview with a bit of music but there is no music during the actual
interview. This is similar to mine as it starts off with music but like a radio
tuning in and then parts of music I thought was appropriate. The interviewer
asks him questions about his fights and past comments that have been said
and what he thinks about them. Like mine, which are questions about life
instead. Some differences are my beginning and end are the same whereas
Famous People’s interview doesn’t begin and end the same.
7. Aural Qualities
I think my work sounds alright. It is not the best I could have done it. I should
have made the actual interview longer because I had to make the beginning
and end longer to reach the time limit. If I could do this again, I would have
made my own jingle when I was researching different interviews. It is creative
as it is not like any other radio station. Some aspects I like are the answers I
got given as they were not planned. One strength I thought was really good in
the interview was that me and the interviewee had a really good bond and
the conversation just had a flow. Another strength is the interview it self. I
believe is was easy to understand. A weakness is I spoke far too close to the
recorder so it made the interview sound really strange and kind of blurry but
really loud. I could have turned it down on Audition when I was editing my
work. Another weakness is I could have asked more questions in the
interview because it was short and needed length.
8. Audience Appeal
My audience was 19+ because this is an age range that can link it in with their
lives more than an younger audience. This links in with the actual interview
when I ask the questions to Rachel. For example one of the questions was
‘What would you do if you won the lottery?’ Now for this answer I needed
something mature rather than immature hence why my audience is so. Both
genders are able to listen to it because they’d have different outcomes. The
social status I have chosen was A – E because anyone can listen to it as the
questions are very open. The whole point to this interview was to get
different responses to the questions. I made it like as if people have posted
the questions in for me to ask.
10. Feedback 1
What did you like about the product?
– You and your interviewee have a good bond in which there are rarely
silences
– The interview questions were informative and got good, detailed
answers.
What improvements could have been made to the product?
– There could have been more content in the beginning as it seemed like
a lot of filler.
– The audio of the voices needs to be edited so that they play through
both ears and quieter as it made me jump when listening.
– you spoke too close to the microphone which created distortion.
11. Feedback 2
What did you like about the product?
– I really liked the content of the interview the way you presented the
interview was really easy to understand.
– I also loved how bouncy and upbeat the speaking was.
What improvements could have been made to the product?
– Done more talking instead of the white noise switching from stations.
– Ask more questions.
12. Feedback 3
What did you like about the product?
– I liked that at the start and the end it sounded as if that you were
tuning the radio.
– I liked the music that was on whilst you were tuning the radio.
What improvements could have been made to the product?
– You could’ve spoke quieter or turned it down by audition.
13. Peer Feedback Summary
What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
I agree with the length of the actual interview could be longer and I spoke to
close to the recorder. All the feedback I have got I agree with.
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
I do not disagree with any of my feedback because all feedback is always good
so I can improve on my work next time.
14. Peer Feedback Summary
From my feedback, I have both improvements and strengths of my radio
production. I think this is beneficial because if I was to do this again, I
would look back on my feedback and try and use it to improve my work.
Some changes I would make are not to speak to close to the recorder, to
make the interview longer instead of having the beginning and the end
the longest. I would also ask more questions because it was quite short in
length so it finished very quickly. My peers picked up on this that I used a
filler to fill the interview to make it longer. This is no a good thing for my
peers to pick up on. Next time, I will make it so they cant pick up on this. I
don’t think radio production was my strongest unit out of all the units.
