Goliath Bare Research Paper
Chapter 1: ABSTRACT 1.1 HISTORY In this automatic transmissions we could trace their origins
to an early gearbox that was developed in 1905 by the Sturtevant brothers of Boston, Massachusetts.
This unit had two forward speeds that is the ratio change that is brought by flyweights that were
driven by the engine. At an higher engine speeds, and at the 0high gear they were engaged. As the
vehicle I think slowly down and engine RPM decreases, the gearbox would not shift back to low
speed. Even thought, the metallurgy of the time wasn't up to the mark, and Knowing about the
abruptness of the gear, the transmission would fail without waning. From 1941 the Germans used
the Goliath tracked min with the use of remote demolition work. The Goliath was a small tracked
vehicle which were carrying 61 kg of explosive charge which was connected with a wire. Their
inspiration was through the miniature French tracking robots which was found in France when they
lose in 1940. The combination of cost, low speed, high speed reliance on a cable for control, and
poor protection against weapons meant was not considered a success. ... Show more content on

Over time cars may break down or get worn out. For an example, engines can give out, break, or fall
apart. In addition, tires need to be changed every once in awhile when they wear out; oil needs to be
changed or else it will destroy the engine. If people did not have mechanics how would they get
around when their vehicles break down? To become an automobile mechanic, it is crucial to prepare
through the appropriate schooling and training, to understand what the job itself entails, and to know
the potential outlook for the job.

In 1905, Mr. H Piper filed a patent for a gasoline engine–electric motor powertrain. According to
him, the electric motor would augment a gasoline engine, allowing a vehicle to accelerate from zero
to 25 miles an hour in 10 seconds, much faster than the gasoline engines of that time. Ironically,
when finally Mr.H Piper was granted the patent a few years later, normal engines were capable of
producing the same kind of acceleration.
Due to rapid advancements in the gasoline engine, the popularity of a hybrid car slowly diminished
untill again in the early to mid 1970s, the time of oil crisis. Many companies poured funds to build
experimental Hybrid Electric Vehicles. But as the oil became available again, the surge for HEVs
died down immediately.
The Europeans and Japanese researching on reducing production costs and making HEVs more
salable. Companies like Toyota, Honda, Volkswagen, Mitsubishi came up with ways to reduce
emissions and better the mileage.
Toyota introduced the Prius in 1997 (in Japan and in 2000 in the US) which proved to be a huge
success. Recent sales figures indicate that well over 300,000 units of Toyota Prius have been sold
the world over justifying the concept of a clean family car.
In 1999, Honda introduced its first production hybrid car, the Insight and then the Civic Hybrid in
2002.
Ford came up with the first hybrid SUV, the Escape, which hit the road in 2004. Quick on their path

Collision Avoidance System Essay
Every year millions of people get in vehicular accidents that cause expensive repairs and sometimes
trauma for the drivers. While collision avoidance systems are very advanced and well developed,
most systems are too expensive for the average consumer. Our team's general mission is to reduce
the likelihood of car crashes by improving an aspect in the car that either keeps the driver more
engaged while driving or assisting the driver in various tasks such as stopping and lane changes.
Along with the general mission, our team has defined further parameters of our product in an
attempt to narrow our ideas down. We decided the product should be modular, third party, and
affordable for the common driver. We also wanted our product to be ... Show more content on

Cars with built–in systems are not without their faults. Other than their limited availability and high
cost, it is also rare to find a car that has all the features of collision avoidance systems available.
Often times car manufacturers will only offer the warning systems without the features that can
actually control a car independent of a driver. Also these systems do not guarantee that the vehicle
will not get into a crash even when the car can control its speed and tire position. Another problem is
that the system is directly integrated into the pieces of the car such as the bumper, mirrors, etc.
which makes repairs extremely expensive. When looking at potential demographics for our product,
we found a phone survey conducted Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, we found that 83% of
parents would not be willing to buy their child a brand new car. With that many parents buying used
cars, a lot of those teens will not have the luxurious access to built–in car safety. To visualize how
large the difference is, here is a simple pie chart on the topic: Another factor that led us to focus on
teen drivers was a study in 2014, also conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, that
stated that 48% of teenagers who died in a driving accident died in a car that was at least 11 years
old. Seeing this statistic made us realize that we wanted to develop a product that could be attached
to cars that are not only 11 years

Mechanical Engineering Advancements In The Automobile...
Mechanical Engineering Advancements in the Automobile Industry The field of mechanical
engineering is a rather diverse one. Mechanical engineering is involved with everything that moves
which makes it the broadest field of engineering to study. Mechanical engineers focus on creating a
component, machine, or an entire process to supply people with the goods or services they want,
need, or require for life. The automotive industry relies heavily on the field of mechanical
engineering to improve safety, fuel consumption, and emissions control. The advancements in
mechanical engineering over the past few years have improved greatly especially in the automobile
industry where the engines of automobiles are quieter, faster, and more fuel efficient. As technology
advances in society, so do the fields of study that utilize these updated forms of technology.
Mechanical engineers have improved automobile engines based on these technologic advances.
Currently, the areas where engineers are focused include enhancing the transmissions, improving
batteries by changing their chemistries, decreasing the load of automobiles, and creating hybrids.
With improvement to these areas, the automobile engines are able to function more efficiently while
simultaneously decreasing their environmental impact. The transmission of an automobile is
responsible for supplying the torque and power to the wheels of the automobile. The main source of
energy waste in the transmission system is

A Magneto Rheological Shock Absorber
A magneto rheological shock absorber or magneto rheological damper is a damper filled with
magneto rheological fluid, which is controlled by magnetic field, usually using an electromagnet.
This allows the damping characteristics of the shock absorber to be continuously controlled by
varying the current in the electromagnet. This type of shock absorber has found applications in
semi–active vehicle suspensions which may adapt to road conditions, as they are driven by
continuous sensor monitoring and also with prosthetic limbs. Fig. No.1. Magneto Rheological

Above figure shows the schematic of magneto rheological damper which is consist of cylinder,
piston, piston rod and electrical winding. There are three types of the magneto rheological damper
are,
Mono tube MR damper
Twin tube MR damper
Double–ended MR damper
MONO TUBE MR DAMPER
From the three types, the mono tube is the most common since it can be installed in any direction
and it is small in size. A mono tube MR damper, shown in Figure, has only one store for the MR
fluid and it is associated with accumulator mechanism to accommodate the changes in volume that
results from piston rod movement. The accumulator piston is used for providing a barrier between
the MR fluid and a compressed gas (usually nitrogen) that is used for accommodating the volume
changes of liquid that occur when the piston rod enters the housing. Fig. No.2.Mono tube MR

Why Is Seatbelts Important
Nowadays, most people own cars and many people are riding cars on a daily basis. Although we
sometimes hear on the news about people dying by car accidents, there are much more cases when
people are not injured by car accidents thanks to the range of safety equipment designed to keep the
people on the car safe in the event of a car crash. The range of safety equipment is supported in the
background by the modern advanced science. First of all, seatbelts are installed in every kind of car
that is being sold. Seatbelts take a very important role in cars because it works in many ways to
protect the passengers from danger and car accidents. One of the reasons why seatbelts are
important is because seatbelts reduce the speed of a body of a passenger as it gets an experience of
an abrupt decreasing of speed. Since the velocity of the car and the passenger is independent, even
when the car crashed into a wall and the velocity suddenly decreases to zero, the body of a
passenger will want to still move forwards. The second reason is that seatbelts prevent passengers
from slamming parts of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In the automotive world there is lots of car brands on the market for us to pick from, there are
American brands, Japanese, Germen to cars, SUV and trucks. Some of them are successful brand on
the market today, however, there are some that haven't had much luck and had to close their doors.
Today I will be talking about the automotive company Oldsmobile. I will be talking about the
history of the brand, where did the company started, the target market, the most popular unit sold,
the reason I've picket Oldsmobile. Oldsmobile was created in 1897 by a man named Ransom E.
Olds, Ransom was born in Geneva, Ohio on June 3rd 1864 he passed away on August 26th 1950 at

Oldsmobile was the America's bestselling car on the market. The company was so popular that they
displace some of its competitor as the 3rd best–selling automotive brand in the United States behind
Ford and Chevrolet. Later in 1977, General Motors was starting to struggle with Oldsmobile, they
eventually had to change their V8 engine with the Chevrolet 350engine because of the Federal

as many other parameters. More recently developers to begin using accelerometer and global
positional systems (GPS) to provide feedback to the driver (Jensen). Yet another critical component
of safe driving is the human–vehicle interface (HVI), very similar to the human computer interface/
interaction (HCI). HVI is used to produce sounds, visual aids, and other forms of feedback such as
the haptic steering wheel to alert the vehicle operator of the roadway conditions (traffic, construction
environment, pedestrians). Since automobiles are operated by single individuals, the primary means
of receiving feedback are visual. Since the introduction of HVI "the cost for real–time control
systems decreases" and the new safety features provide information that hopes to improve decision–
making response time (Jensen).
The article describes three formats of in–vehicle feedback; visual, haptic, and audio. Each of the
three formats to be broke down into various systems and functions. Very similar to a database
containing tables, rows, and attributes. In the visual table, there are four rows one of which is the

A Brief Note On Design An Electric Vehicle
Introduction
Detail of Project
Introduction
The project is to design an electric vehicle that has to be road worthy and comfortable to drive off
road as well. We are doing These because it is the future of Automobile industry. These is fully
ecofriendly and these is one of the best solution to decrease the carbon emission in our environment.
EV which we are design is Fully built from Scratch, which is look like a Wheelie jeep. Because its
roadworthy so we have design this car under the concern of the New Zealand Transport rules and
regulation. The car is two doors with two Seating capacity. we have to make it lighter and off road
drive so we choose the poly carbonate shell material. The car is fully electrically automated with
electric power steering and some other feature. It also has an Electrical winch which is detachable at
front or back. It is a four–wheel drive and with high torque and doesn't produce any excessive
sound. The car has a AC motor as drivetrain and the energy source for drive is a lithium Batteries
which is highly efficient as compared to other battery. We design good breaking system because
electric motor has a very high acceleration as compared to CI cars. EVS running cost is much lower
and very less maintenance. It has a range of 80 km per charge and it can be charge in your garage
240 V plug socket. The money spent on the EVs has reasonable and payback to us.

Collision Avoidance System : An Automobile Safety System
CAR COLLISION AVOIDANCE SYSTEM

Email: kirtidahiya7009@gmail.com
Abstract: A collision avoidance system is an automobile safety system designed to reduce the
rigorousness of a collision. Also known as precrash system, forward collision warning system, or
collision mitigating system. It uses radar and sometimes laser and camera to detect an imminent
crash. Once the detection is done, these systems either provide a warning to the driver when there is
an imminent collision or take action autonomously without any driver input by braking or steering
or both. Collision avoidance by braking is appropriate at low vehicle speeds. while collision
avoidance is suitable at higher vehicle speeds.[1] Cars with collision avoidance may also be
equipped with adaptive cruise control, and use the same forward–looking sensors. Keywords:
collision, congested, Traffic safety, transmission, sensor networks .
Introduction: Collision Avoidance systems, a subsequent step to collision mitigation, are one of the
great challenges in the area of active safety for road vehicles. In India the total annual deaths due to
road accidents has crossed 1.18 lakh, according to the latest report of National Crime Records

Personal Narrative: The Mechanic Of Today
The Mechanic of Today
The mechanics of the past earned a majority of their income performing scheduled automotive
maintenance. Things like spark plugs, engine coolant and transmission fluid required replacement
every 30,000 miles. On modern automobiles these items can last for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Now
the mechanic of today relies on their ability to quickly diagnose and repair complex automotive
problems.
Training Mechanics for a Changing World
Gone are the days of graduating from your high school auto shop class and grabbing a job fixing
cars capable of supporting a family. Mechanics must embrace the same theories taught decades ago
while at the same time embracing the technology that is already in the pipeline. With the vast
amount of knowledge required it's now recommended that new technicians specialize. ... Show more

Changing the Cars Mechanics Work On
At some point in the 90s I wondered why car designers would remove the manually operated throttle
cables that worked so well for more than 100 years and replace them with an unreliable drive–by
wire throttle control system. The answer to the question is it was a necessary step in the preparation
for the automobile to become driverless.
Slowly anything that was manually operated by the driver has disappeared and replaced with a
digital solution. Therefore mechanics must learn and truly understand the basic theories of how an
automobile works while at the same time embracing the technology aimed at removing the steering
wheel from the hands of human

sequential gearboxes Essay
Running Head: SEQUENTIAL GEARBOXES
Abstract
This paper will discuss the technology of sequential gearboxes. Relatively new technology, the
sequential gearbox has been applied mostly in ATV's, motorcycles, and the automobile racing
industry. Recently this technology has begun to reach passenger cars. There are three main points of
discussion; the workings of a manual transmission, how a sequential gearbox works and the
advantages of them, and the applications of it today. The sequential gearbox is extremely
revolutionary and is only used in high–end passenger cars, but maybe one day it will be a luxury the
majority of the population will be able to experience.

How Sequential Gearboxes Work
In a regular manual transmission there are three forks controlled by three rods that are engaged by
the shift lever by the driver. The normal "H" pattern that the driver sees on top of the shifter enables
him or her to move the shift lever between the control rods for the three forks and thus moving the
rods back and forth. When all of these aspects are combined a successful shift is accomplished.
Transmissions on ATV's or motorcycles using sequential gearboxes have a set of gear selection forks
that move collars, which engage the gears just like on regular manual transmissions. The gearshift
lever is moved up and down by the foot and the transmission is moved from gear to gear. When the
gearshift lever is moved by the foot, a ratcheting drum is rotated. This ratcheting drum has grooves
cut into the side of it. The grooves on the ratcheting drum will direct the control rods when the drum
is away from the transmission's gears. Moving the gear selector fork is the most common use of the
grooves. With this in mind, whenever the lever is moved up or down, the drum is rotated one
increment. The rotation of the drum allows for movement of the rods or forks as set by the grooves
in the drum and the gears are then changed (Brain, n.d.). The gear shifting sequence can only be
done in order; this means that no gears can be

How Stirling Engine Is A Type Of Heat Engine Essay
Abstract: Stirling engine is a type of heat engine that operates by cyclic compression and expansion
of working fluid of different temperature to convert heat energy into mechanical work. The concept
of Stirling engine was introduced to overcome the problem of explosion and wastage of heat energy
in steam engine. The key working principle of Stirling is "a fixed amount of gas is sealed inside the
closed space".
Stirling engine can work on any solid or liquid fuel with very low exhaust emission. It operates
without noise, have low cycle torque variation and a flat part–load characteristics. With this type of
advantageous attributes, Stirling engine come into sight for use in automotive application.
Nevertheless, Stirling engine has very less realistic practical application in automotive. The reason
behind that is easily availability of liquid fuel and internal combustion engine. Stirling engines are
more expensive and most complicated than IC engine. In addition to that, it has low power density
and sealing problems while working on high pressure and high speed. Moreover, It requires twice
efficient cooling system compared to other engine of equivalent power.
In past, there were plenty of experiments conducted to use Stirling engine in automotive section.
Efforts to develop Stirling powered cars, vans and buses have been made in Europe and the USA.

a noticeable line in the drive thru most people just go to another more "convenient" place. The
growing inconvenience of commercial breaks has led to prosperity by the online media streaming
services such as Netflix and Hulu. If where we get our food and TV from has to be fast and reliable
then the demand for your car to be is an afterthought. Who is there to provide their services that
keep own country and daily lives moving? These men and women have many names and specialties.
Most would call them mechanics or automotive technicians. The most knowledgeable and
experienced of this necessary trade are master mechanics. In order to become a licensed Master
mechanic you have to be a lifelong student of the trade, have years of education and experience, and
love and respect for the trade itself.

Technical Innovation, Policy Making And Industrial Strategy
Recommendations
While Autonomous car presents enormous potential and benefits, there is a long way to go before
we achieve fully self–driving automation. Going forward, there are three areas we would like to
advise on: technical innovation, policy making and industrial strategy.
Firstly, there have been active innovations in modular functionalities. In the technologies list below,
most of them are still in the early stage of the S–curve and it will take long time for the trial, testing
and adoption (for example, it took almost 50 years for the complete adoption of airbags), especially
when safety is the number one concern in the automobile sector. Therefore, open and continuous
innovation is the essence to improve functionality, technical performance and reliability, and to
address technical issues.
Automatic braking: it senses an imminent distance with another vehicle or a velocity related danger
and responds either by pre–charging the brakes or by applying the brakes to slow the vehicle
without any driver input.
Electronic Stability control: a computerized technology improves vehicle's stability by detecting and
minimizing skids. It automatically applies the brakes and helps to minimize a loss of control. ESC
compares the driver's intended direction to the vehicles actual direction.
Automatic cruise control: it keeps the car at a constant speed by taking over the throttle of the car. It
also maintains a set of distance between it and the car in front. It needs a

Career Of AAutomotive Technician
Career College Research Paper I would like to be an automotive technician. Automotive technicians
inspect, maintain, and repair vehicles. I chose this this career because I have worked on cars since I
was young. Not many people want to be an automotive technician. As a result, there are more jobs
available than there are qualified technician. Most automotive technicians work in good
environments. Automotive technicians work in a well ventilated and lit repair shops or some will
work in the pits at a racetrack but, these locations can be very Tumultuous. I hope to be working in
the pits. Technicians work full time hours and overtime is common. Technicians can work in many
urban areas, including dealerships, and independent shops. Automotive technicians must first, show
up a few minutes early. In these ten minutes or so, they should unlock their toolbox, clean their work
bay and tools, and check their emails if necessary. Then they should open up the shop, and work on
any unfinished projects. Throughout the day, more work may show up. Depending on the severity of
the work, it should either be set aside until there is time or should be done immediately to get the
vehicle back to the customer. Another job of a technician is to explain the problem, the work to be
done, and the cost to the customer. Customers could easily overreact over a problem that, to the
technician, seem simple. It is the technician's job to help the customer understand the simplicity of

Shifting gear to gear and racing down the street can be very fun. But in order to be able to actually
shift the gears and get the vehicle to move, their are many steps involved. With the perfection of
these steps you will be able to drive the vehicle smoothly and efficiently. The equipment that will be
needed for this process is usually the same for every vehicle. At a minimum, you will need an open
lot, a hill near by, and a manual transmission vehicle. Once you get the necessary equipment, it is
time to get in the driver's seat of the vehicle. Once you are in the driver's seat of the vehicle, grab
onto the gear lever and move it left to right a couple of times. If the lever is moving side to side, the
vehicle is in neutral. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To shift from first gear to second gear, you will depress the clutch all the way down, and move the
gear lever straight down into second gear. If the gear lever goes into neutral, second gear is all the
way left and straight back. When into the second gear notch, start to let out the clutch. When the
clutch is out, give the vehicle gas and continue to keep driving. Continue to watch the RPM gauge is
second gear as well. When it gets back up to 3000–3500 it is time to shift gears again. Push the
clutch all the way down, and move the gear lever into neutral and straight up. This will put you into
the third gear. When into the third gear and the clutch is all the way down, start to release the clutch
and start giving gas when the clutch is about half way out. Continue to give the vehicle gas until the
clutch is all the way out and drive as normal. When into third gear, the RPM will still be climbing
up, but it will start to go up slower and slower as the gears go up. When the RPM gets back up to
3000–3500, press in the clutch. With the clutch pushed back in, move the gear lever straight down
all the way. This will put it into fourth gear. With the gear lever in fourth gear, start to release the
clutch and press back down on the gas. When your foot is off of the clutch, continue to drive.
Watching the RPM gauge again, drive until the RPM's hit 3000–3500. It is then time to shift into

Advances are strongest in the Asia/Pacific region due to on–going rapid industrialization as well as
rising car ownership rates. Both of these trends will also favor healthy growth in the Africa/Mideast
region and Latin America. Meanwhile, the greater availability of advanced, high performance
lubricants, greater global competition and increasingly stringent environmental rules result in
reduced or negative growth in lubricant demand in the more developed countries of North America
and Western Europe, as well as in Eastern Europe and Japan.

Impact Of The Automobile Industry On The Economy Due The...
The automobile industry plays an outsized role in the economy due the industry's cyclicality and the
multiplier effect. For instance, a gearbox is purchased from a supplier that has to employ labor,
purchase raw materials such as, copper, steel, wire, and other related components and services to
support the activity. All of these parts are in turn purchased from other suppliers with costs to
support their businesses. Therefore, as each supplier purchases components and services that they
need, an increasing propensity to consume and invest in the economy raises. For over 10 years, the
government of China had tried to develop a car industry. The government 's starting steps included
the production of joint endeavors in which government–possessed firms got to be accomplices of
remote exclusive enterprises. The greater part of these joint endeavors were amazingly effective
fiscally. Then again, progressing contrasts in administration inclinations made a consistent pressure
inside of the joint ventures. One of the specific concerns for the Chinese government was to
guarantee that its new car industry would receive the most recent advances in innovations. This
subject of innovation exchange, and how the government of China could best support it, turned into
a main issue of concern in China 's car industry. From the point of view of the government of China,
Geely 's acquiring of Volvo would be a major stride in accomplishing innovation transfer on a
continuous premise. Geely 's

ABS Anti–lock braking system (ABS) is an automobile safety system, that allows the wheels on a
motor vehicle to maintain tractive contact with the road surface according to driver inputs while
braking. Preventing the wheels from locking up (ceasing rotation) and avoiding uncontrolled
skidding, it is an automated system that uses the principles of threshold braking and cadence braking
which were practiced by skillful drivers with previous generation braking systems. It does this at a
much faster rate and with better control than a driver could manage.
ABS generally offers improved vehicle control and also decreases stopping distances on dry and
slippery surfaces for many drivers, however, on loose surfaces like gravel or snow–covered
pavement, ABS can significantly increase braking distance, although still improving vehicle control.

Since there are pros and cons to each and everything there are a few disadvantages as well.
There are capacity balancing problems. The way that you carried your supplier manufacturer
relation previously gets disturbed and therefore working with the same supplier under the same
environment gets a little difficult.
There is a decreased flexibility. The same problem that we mentioned above is that working or
carrying out two different functions under the same roof creates a higher level of difficulty for them.
Creates a barrier to market entry. As we saw before as well that whenever there is a vertical merger
the firm becomes stronger and it creates a market barrier for the other firms to enter. This perfectly
gets associated with the acquisition that we have in this case because turning out to be a market
leader after a second largest acquisition in this case makes it a market leader of a perfect sort.
EFFECTS OF THE ACQUISITION:
REVENUE:

The Weight Reduction Of The Drive Shaft
Abstract – Almost all automobiles (at least those which correspond to design with rear wheel drive
and front engine installation) have transmission shafts. The weight reduction of the drive shaft can
have a certain role in the general weight reduction of the vehicle and is a highly desirable goal, if it
can be achieved without increase in cost and decrease in quality and reliability. It is possible to
achieve design of composite drive shaft with less weight to increase the first natural frequency of the
shaft and to decrease the bending stresses using various stacking sequences. By doing the same,
maximize the torque transmission and torsional buckling capabilities are also maximized.
Key Words: Propeller shaft, Drive shaft, optimization, Composite material, Composite drive shaft
design etc. INTRODUCTION
The advanced composite materials such as Graphite, Carbon, Kevlar and Glass with suitable resins
are widely used because of their high specific strength (strength / density) and high specific modulus
(modulus / density). Advanced composite materials seem ideally suited for long, power driver shaft
(propeller shaft) applications. Their elastic properties can be tailored to increase the torque they can
carry as well as the rotational speed at which they operate. The drive shafts are used in automotive,
aircraft and aerospace applications. The automotive industry is exploiting composite material
technology for structural components construction in order to obtain the reduction

Modern Vehicle and Suspension System
Introduction
A suspension system is required to operate efficiently in various operating conditions, such as high
speed cornering, accelerating and braking. A Suspension system is used to absorb the vibrations
caused by the road roughness. It is designed to improve the comfort in a vehicle, and also handling
performance. The main design features of a suspension system are the optimization of the friction
between the contact patch of the tyre and the road surface, and to deliver vehicle stability. The
system has to permit the distribution of forces generated by the wheels in contact with the ground. A
suspension system has to comply with the specifications of the design in every load condition.
A suspension system has a great importance in vehicle behaviour. Stability, handling or road holding
characteristics and also comfort, are influenced by the design of the suspension system. Generally,
there are two main types of suspension systems: Independent (McPherson, Double Wishbone,
Multilink, etc.) and Dependent suspension type (Hotchkiss, trailing arm–rigid axle) (the automotive
chassis). The motion of the wheels in a dependent type suspension, as the name suggest, is
dependent on the motion of the partner wheel. As an example, the effect of an impact is transmitted
to the other wheel, having a negative effect on the ride and handling of the vehicle. The wheel
motion in an independent suspension is not influencing the partner wheel. Any disturbances in the
wheel are not

In 1972, Daewoo entered the industry when they acquired one half of Saehan Motor Company
(Ebert, R., Montoney, M., 2007). However, Saehan was developed as a joint venture between
General Motors (GM) and South Korea's Shinjin Motors (Green, 1992). One of South Korea's
leading automobile assemblers was Shinjin at that time. When Shinjin showed financial troubles,
DMC stepped in and acquired half of the company (Green, pg. 7). GM and Daewoo entered into a
joint venture that mutually benefitted both companies with the sale of each other's automobiles in
their respective countries. As competition increased in the South Korean automobile industry, GM
sold majority of their shares in the joint venture to Daewoo (Ebert, R., Montoney, M., 2007).
Though GM and Daewoo's relationship briefly ended in 1992, GM once again showed renewed
interest in Daewoo and completed a takeover of what is now known as GM Daewoo in 2002 when
the Korean automaker showed signs of failing (Kirk, 2002). The merger was quite a successful
move with a combined domestic and export sales exceeding 1.5 million units in 2006 (Choe, 2006).
Kia as well has taken action to sign strategic agreements with Ford (which at the time held a 25%

This unit had two forward speeds that is the ratio change that is brought by flyweights that were driven by the engine. At an higher engine speeds, and at the 0high gear they were engaged. As the vehicle I think slowly down and engine RPM decreases, the gearbox would not shift back to low speed. Even thought, the metallurgy of the time wasn't up to the mark, and Knowing about the abruptness of the gear, the transmission would fail without waning. From 1941 the Germans used the Goliath tracked min with the use of remote demolition work. The Goliath was a small tracked vehicle which were carrying 61 kg of explosive charge which was connected with a wire. Their inspiration was through the miniature French tracking robots which was found in France when they lose in 1940. The combination of cost, low speed, high speed reliance on a cable for control, and poor protection against weapons meant was not considered a success. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1905, Mr. H Piper filed a patent for a gasoline engine–electric motor powertrain. According to him, the electric motor would augment a gasoline engine, allowing a vehicle to accelerate from zero to 25 miles an hour in 10 seconds, much faster than the gasoline engines of that time. Ironically, when finally Mr.H Piper was granted the patent a few years later, normal engines were capable of producing the same kind of acceleration. Due to rapid advancements in the gasoline engine, the popularity of a hybrid car slowly diminished untill again in the early to mid 1970s, the time of oil crisis. Many companies poured funds to build experimental Hybrid Electric Vehicles. But as the oil became available again, the surge for HEVs died down immediately. The Europeans and Japanese researching on reducing production costs and making HEVs more salable. Companies like Toyota, Honda, Volkswagen, Mitsubishi came up with ways to reduce emissions and better the mileage. • 8. Collision Avoidance System Essay Every year millions of people get in vehicular accidents that cause expensive repairs and sometimes trauma for the drivers. While collision avoidance systems are very advanced and well developed, most systems are too expensive for the average consumer. Our team's general mission is to reduce the likelihood of car crashes by improving an aspect in the car that either keeps the driver more engaged while driving or assisting the driver in various tasks such as stopping and lane changes. Along with the general mission, our team has defined further parameters of our product in an attempt to narrow our ideas down. We decided the product should be modular, third party, and affordable for the common driver. We also wanted our product to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cars with built–in systems are not without their faults. Other than their limited availability and high cost, it is also rare to find a car that has all the features of collision avoidance systems available. Often times car manufacturers will only offer the warning systems without the features that can actually control a car independent of a driver. Also these systems do not guarantee that the vehicle will not get into a crash even when the car can control its speed and tire position. Another problem is that the system is directly integrated into the pieces of the car such as the bumper, mirrors, etc. which makes repairs extremely expensive. When looking at potential demographics for our product, we found a phone survey conducted Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, we found that 83% of parents would not be willing to buy their child a brand new car. With that many parents buying used cars, a lot of those teens will not have the luxurious access to built–in car safety. To visualize how large the difference is, here is a simple pie chart on the topic: Another factor that led us to focus on teen drivers was a study in 2014, also conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, that stated that 48% of teenagers who died in a driving accident died in a car that was at least 11 years old. Seeing this statistic made us realize that we wanted to develop a product that could be attached to cars that are not only 11 years ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Magneto Rheological Shock Absorber A magneto rheological shock absorber or magneto rheological damper is a damper filled with magneto rheological fluid, which is controlled by magnetic field, usually using an electromagnet. This allows the damping characteristics of the shock absorber to be continuously controlled by varying the current in the electromagnet. This type of shock absorber has found applications in semi–active vehicle suspensions which may adapt to road conditions, as they are driven by continuous sensor monitoring and also with prosthetic limbs. Fig. No.1. Magneto Rheological damper Above figure shows the schematic of magneto rheological damper which is consist of cylinder, piston, piston rod and electrical winding. There are three types of the magneto rheological damper are, Mono tube MR damper Twin tube MR damper Double–ended MR damper MONO TUBE MR DAMPER From the three types, the mono tube is the most common since it can be installed in any direction and it is small in size. A mono tube MR damper, shown in Figure, has only one store for the MR fluid and it is associated with accumulator mechanism to accommodate the changes in volume that results from piston rod movement. The accumulator piston is used for providing a barrier between the MR fluid and a compressed gas (usually nitrogen) that is used for accommodating the volume changes of liquid that occur when the piston rod enters the housing. Seatbelts take a very important role in cars because it works in many ways to protect the passengers from danger and car accidents. One of the reasons why seatbelts are important is because seatbelts reduce the speed of a body of a passenger as it gets an experience of an abrupt decreasing of speed. Since the velocity of the car and the passenger is independent, even when the car crashed into a wall and the velocity suddenly decreases to zero, the body of a passenger will want to still move forwards. HVI is used to produce sounds, visual aids, and other forms of feedback such as the haptic steering wheel to alert the vehicle operator of the roadway conditions (traffic, construction environment, pedestrians). Since automobiles are operated by single individuals, the primary means of receiving feedback are visual. Since the introduction of HVI "the cost for real–time control systems decreases" and the new safety features provide information that hopes to improve decision– making response time (Jensen). A Brief Note On Design An Electric Vehicle Introduction Detail of Project Introduction The project is to design an electric vehicle that has to be road worthy and comfortable to drive off road as well. We are doing These because it is the future of Automobile industry. These is fully ecofriendly and these is one of the best solution to decrease the carbon emission in our environment. EV which we are design is Fully built from Scratch, which is look like a Wheelie jeep. Because its roadworthy so we have design this car under the concern of the New Zealand Transport rules and regulation. The car is two doors with two Seating capacity. we have to make it lighter and off road drive so we choose the poly carbonate shell material. The car is fully electrically automated with electric power steering and some other feature. It also has an Electrical winch which is detachable at front or back. It is a four–wheel drive and with high torque and doesn't produce any excessive sound. The car has a AC motor as drivetrain and the energy source for drive is a lithium Batteries which is highly efficient as compared to other battery. We design good breaking system because electric motor has a very high acceleration as compared to CI cars. EVS running cost is much lower and very less maintenance. It has a range of 80 km per charge and it can be charge in your garage 240 V plug socket. The money spent on the EVs has reasonable and payback to us. Collision Avoidance System : An Automobile Safety System CAR COLLISION AVOIDANCE SYSTEM Kirti Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering Haryana (India) Email: kirtidahiya7009@gmail.com Abstract: A collision avoidance system is an automobile safety system designed to reduce the rigorousness of a collision. Also known as precrash system, forward collision warning system, or collision mitigating system. It uses radar and sometimes laser and camera to detect an imminent crash. Once the detection is done, these systems either provide a warning to the driver when there is an imminent collision or take action autonomously without any driver input by braking or steering or both. Collision avoidance by braking is appropriate at low vehicle speeds. while collision avoidance is suitable at higher vehicle speeds.[1] Cars with collision avoidance may also be equipped with adaptive cruise control, and use the same forward–looking sensors. Keywords: collision, congested, Traffic safety, transmission, sensor networks . Introduction: Collision Avoidance systems, a subsequent step to collision mitigation, are one of the great challenges in the area of active safety for road vehicles. In India the total annual deaths due to road accidents has crossed 1.18 lakh, according to the latest report of National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). If these deficiencies are not controlled at early stages they might cause huge economical problems affecting the road side networks. The main part of the work was to carry out a feasibility ... The answer to the question is it was a necessary step in the preparation for the automobile to become driverless. Slowly anything that was manually operated by the driver has disappeared and replaced with a digital solution. One such machine that has made great strides in the last century is the automobile. Mobility has always been my area of fascination; the working of a simple bicycle to the advanced Formula One car has always made me curious. During my high school studies I was a student of science and mathematics, both these subjects helped me in unraveling the mysteries of nature by better understanding principles that govern its working. I have participated in several school and inter school science projects, one such project that left lasting impression was that of a study on gear mechanism used in various tools, fascinated by the same I was on self–propelled path of discovery. I am driven by asking the questions: why? and how? and this curiosity developed into a passion for machines as a whole and led me to do an undergraduate program in Mechanical Engineering from PVG'S College of Engineering and Technology under the prestigious University of Pune, a leading academic institution in the automotive hub of India, Pune. The four year course exposed me to many fascinating subjects, my interest evolved as I explored subjects like Manufacturing Process, Theory of Machines, Metallurgy, Fluid Mechanics, Machine Design, Power Transmission System, IC engines etc. I have tried to be in tune with the latest Mechanical technologies by attending courses offered by automotive industry itself, ... Relatively new technology, the sequential gearbox has been applied mostly in ATV's, motorcycles, and the automobile racing industry. Recently this technology has begun to reach passenger cars. There are three main points of discussion; the workings of a manual transmission, how a sequential gearbox works and the advantages of them, and the applications of it today. The sequential gearbox is extremely revolutionary and is only used in high–end passenger cars, but maybe one day it will be a luxury the majority of the population will be able to experience. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How Sequential Gearboxes Work In a regular manual transmission there are three forks controlled by three rods that are engaged by the shift lever by the driver. The normal "H" pattern that the driver sees on top of the shifter enables him or her to move the shift lever between the control rods for the three forks and thus moving the rods back and forth. When all of these aspects are combined a successful shift is accomplished. Transmissions on ATV's or motorcycles using sequential gearboxes have a set of gear selection forks that move collars, which engage the gears just like on regular manual transmissions. The gearshift lever is moved up and down by the foot and the transmission is moved from gear to gear. When the gearshift lever is moved by the foot, a ratcheting drum is rotated. This ratcheting drum has grooves cut into the side of it. The grooves on the ratcheting drum will direct the control rods when the drum is away from the transmission's gears. Moving the gear selector fork is the most common use of the grooves. With this in mind, whenever the lever is moved up or down, the drum is rotated one increment. The rotation of the drum allows for movement of the rods or forks as set by the grooves in the drum and the gears are then changed (Brain, n.d.). The gear shifting sequence can only be done in order; this means that no gears can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. How Stirling Engine Is A Type Of Heat Engine Essay Abstract: Stirling engine is a type of heat engine that operates by cyclic compression and expansion of working fluid of different temperature to convert heat energy into mechanical work. The concept of Stirling engine was introduced to overcome the problem of explosion and wastage of heat energy in steam engine. The key working principle of Stirling is "a fixed amount of gas is sealed inside the closed space". Stirling engine can work on any solid or liquid fuel with very low exhaust emission. It operates without noise, have low cycle torque variation and a flat part–load characteristics. With this type of advantageous attributes, Stirling engine come into sight for use in automotive application. Nevertheless, Stirling engine has very less realistic practical application in automotive. The reason behind that is easily availability of liquid fuel and internal combustion engine. Stirling engines are more expensive and most complicated than IC engine. In addition to that, it has low power density and sealing problems while working on high pressure and high speed. Moreover, It requires twice efficient cooling system compared to other engine of equivalent power. In past, there were plenty of experiments conducted to use Stirling engine in automotive section. Efforts to develop Stirling powered cars, vans and buses have been made in Europe and the USA. Technical Innovation, Policy Making And Industrial Strategy Recommendations While Autonomous car presents enormous potential and benefits, there is a long way to go before we achieve fully self–driving automation. Going forward, there are three areas we would like to advise on: technical innovation, policy making and industrial strategy. Firstly, there have been active innovations in modular functionalities. In the technologies list below, most of them are still in the early stage of the S–curve and it will take long time for the trial, testing and adoption (for example, it took almost 50 years for the complete adoption of airbags), especially when safety is the number one concern in the automobile sector. Therefore, open and continuous innovation is the essence to improve functionality, technical performance and reliability, and to address technical issues. Automatic braking: it senses an imminent distance with another vehicle or a velocity related danger and responds either by pre–charging the brakes or by applying the brakes to slow the vehicle without any driver input. Electronic Stability control: a computerized technology improves vehicle's stability by detecting and minimizing skids. It automatically applies the brakes and helps to minimize a loss of control. ESC compares the driver's intended direction to the vehicles actual direction. Automatic cruise control: it keeps the car at a constant speed by taking over the throttle of the car. For instance, a gearbox is purchased from a supplier that has to employ labor, purchase raw materials such as, copper, steel, wire, and other related components and services to support the activity. All of these parts are in turn purchased from other suppliers with costs to support their businesses. Therefore, as each supplier purchases components and services that they need, an increasing propensity to consume and invest in the economy raises. The way that you carried your supplier manufacturer relation previously gets disturbed and therefore working with the same supplier under the same environment gets a little difficult. There is a decreased flexibility. The same problem that we mentioned above is that working or carrying out two different functions under the same roof creates a higher level of difficulty for them. Creates a barrier to market entry. As we saw before as well that whenever there is a vertical merger the firm becomes stronger and it creates a market barrier for the other firms to enter. This perfectly gets associated with the acquisition that we have in this case because turning out to be a market leader after a second largest acquisition in this case makes it a market leader of a perfect sort. EFFECTS OF THE ACQUISITION: REVENUE:
  • 64. The revenue for ZF & TRW automotive initially after the merger was $ 4442 Million. Three months after the merger the revenue increased to $ 4593 Million. This was mainly because of the stature of the acquisition perceived in the automobile market by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 68. The Weight Reduction Of The Drive Shaft Abstract – Almost all automobiles (at least those which correspond to design with rear wheel drive and front engine installation) have transmission shafts. The weight reduction of the drive shaft can have a certain role in the general weight reduction of the vehicle and is a highly desirable goal, if it can be achieved without increase in cost and decrease in quality and reliability. It is possible to achieve design of composite drive shaft with less weight to increase the first natural frequency of the shaft and to decrease the bending stresses using various stacking sequences. By doing the same, maximize the torque transmission and torsional buckling capabilities are also maximized. Key Words: Propeller shaft, Drive shaft, optimization, Composite material, Composite drive shaft design etc. INTRODUCTION The advanced composite materials such as Graphite, Carbon, Kevlar and Glass with suitable resins are widely used because of their high specific strength (strength / density) and high specific modulus (modulus / density). Advanced composite materials seem ideally suited for long, power driver shaft (propeller shaft) applications. Their elastic properties can be tailored to increase the torque they can carry as well as the rotational speed at which they operate. The drive shafts are used in automotive, aircraft and aerospace applications. The automotive industry is exploiting composite material technology for structural components construction in order to obtain the reduction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 70. Modern Vehicle and Suspension System Introduction A suspension system is required to operate efficiently in various operating conditions, such as high speed cornering, accelerating and braking. A Suspension system is used to absorb the vibrations caused by the road roughness. It is designed to improve the comfort in a vehicle, and also handling performance. The main design features of a suspension system are the optimization of the friction between the contact patch of the tyre and the road surface, and to deliver vehicle stability. The system has to permit the distribution of forces generated by the wheels in contact with the ground. A suspension system has to comply with the specifications of the design in every load condition. A suspension system has a great importance in vehicle behaviour. Stability, handling or road holding characteristics and also comfort, are influenced by the design of the suspension system. Generally, there are two main types of suspension systems: Independent (McPherson, Double Wishbone, Multilink, etc.) and Dependent suspension type (Hotchkiss, trailing arm–rigid axle) (the automotive chassis). The motion of the wheels in a dependent type suspension, as the name suggest, is dependent on the motion of the partner wheel. As an example, the effect of an impact is transmitted to the other wheel, having a negative effect on the ride and handling of the vehicle. The wheel motion in an independent suspension is not influencing the partner wheel. Any disturbances in the wheel are not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1972, Daewoo entered the industry when they acquired one half of Saehan Motor Company (Ebert, R., Montoney, M., 2007). However, Saehan was developed as a joint venture between General Motors (GM) and South Korea's Shinjin Motors (Green, 1992). One of South Korea's leading automobile assemblers was Shinjin at that time. When Shinjin showed financial troubles, DMC stepped in and acquired half of the company (Green, pg. 7). GM and Daewoo entered into a joint venture that mutually benefitted both companies with the sale of each other's automobiles in their respective countries. As competition increased in the South Korean automobile industry, GM sold majority of their shares in the joint venture to Daewoo (Ebert, R., Montoney, M., 2007). Though GM and Daewoo's relationship briefly ended in 1992, GM once again showed renewed interest in Daewoo and completed a takeover of what is now known as GM Daewoo in 2002 when the Korean automaker showed signs of failing (Kirk, 2002). The merger was quite a successful move with a combined domestic and export sales exceeding 1.5 million units in 2006 (Choe, 2006). Kia as well has taken action to sign strategic agreements with Ford (which at the time held a 25% equity stake in Mazda) to supply them with technological know–how and design of facilities to develop their own vehicles (Green, p. 8). There are a large number of possible configurations of engine, electric machine(s)2, clutches, gearing, and transmissions that can result in an HEV. These are grouped in four classes in this paper. Based on an examination of the architectures, these classes are: beltdriven starter/generators on the front of the engine, crank–shaft mounted motor/generators on the rear of the engine, series/parallel hybrids, and combination hybrids with a mixture of the previous configurations. BELT–DRIVEN STARTER/GENERATOR The first architecture is the entry level to hybridization. In this architecture the engine stop–start function is implemented with a starter/generator that is typically belt–driven. The Toyota Crown with the Toyota Hybrid System – Mild (THS–M) architecture shown in figure 1a is exemplary. The traditional alternator has been replaced Some powertrain features such as clutches and differentials are not included in these diagrams in order to keep them from becoming unduly complex. 2 A rotating electric machine can act as both an electric motor and an electric generator. 1 INTRODUCTION Hybrid vehicles have been in saleable production for over five years, with the first sales occurring in Japan.
