The City Of Fort Worth, Texas
I grew up in the suburbs on the North side of Fort Worth, Texas, more specifically Keller, Texas.
Keller had a population close to 40,000 people by the time I left for Texas A&M, but when I first
arrived there the population was only about 20,000 people. It is a growing town with a ton of
commodities and things to do, new activities are always popping up, such as the new movie theater
that was just built 5 miles away from my house. Being part of the suburbs of Fort Worth, it is mostly
organized in housing developments, with shopping centers scattered around. In each housing
development there were at least two schools, ranging from elementary to high school. At the center
of the town is downtown Keller, with the Town Hall at the center of ... Show more content on

Music has a big impact on my life, it is one of my favorite things in the world. My music library is
so diverse, so it is hard for me to pick my favorite genre, from hip hop to rock to country. I find it all
tasteful. If I had to say may favorite though it would be alternative rock, mostly because my favorite
band is the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Their bass lines are amazing, and their music has so much heart
and emotion in it, it's something that everyone can jam along to. My least favorite would have to be
screamo, an off shoot of metal. It is just too angry and you cannot understand anything the singer is
saying, it isn't something that is easy for me to appreciate. The Hobbit is my favorite book, the ore
behind it keeps me interested and the way it is written is a completely different style than today's
writing. The writing style almost seems archaic but it has an elegance to it that is extremely difficult
to achieve. My upperclassmen are the heroes in my life right now. Being in the Corps of Cadets at
A&M can be difficult sometimes, and without them motivating me and supporting me, I don't
believe I would be able to complete half of the tasks that I have completed. They inspire me threw
greatness and lead me with strength and resolve. My upperclassmen are who I aspire to be like, I
want to be an example for future Corps members such as my upperclassmen are for me. I am a

Narrative About Jasper
Jasper lives pretty far from my apartment. We've been driving for about half an hour. "So, what's on
the menu?" I ask, turning the music down. Jasper likes a wide variety of music but his favorite is old
bands like AC/DC, The Beatles, Guns n' Roses, The Red Hot Chili peppers, and Bon Jovi. I would
have taken Jasper for the type of guy to like nothing but classical music. I guess I shouldn't judge a
handsomely dressed book by its cover. "It's a surprise." He answers. "Is it a surprise or do you just
not know yet?" I ask. He laughs. "The second one." He answers and turns the music back up. We get
to his place, it looks like a huge property. There are many trees and lots of green grass around. A few

"What about you?" I ask. "I believe we're alone." He answers. "How so?" I ask. "All of these other
planets we're discovering and still no signs of life. My theory is that our planet is the last one to have
life on it. Something happened and all of the other planets are just empty and lifeless. Earth is the
last planet to sustain life and we as humans are killing it." He answers. "That's an interesting theory.
What do you think killed the other planets?" I ask. "A plague of some kind, maybe humans did. All I
know is something did." He answers. I sit up and look at Jasper. "What?" He asks and sits up too. I
don't say anything, I just kiss him. He kisses me back. When he kisses me, it's not like the fireworks
some people describe. It's more like magma moving in my chest. Just hot, hot fire that cannot be
quenched. He pulls back and looks into my eyes. "Jasper, I love you." I say. I can't believe I just said
it. What if he doesn't feel the same way? What if I'm moving us along too fast? I've messed up. This
is it. We're done. "I love you.. Too.." He replies, gently grazing his knuckles along my jawline. "I

Give It Away Analysis
"Give it Away": Life Lessons from Nina Hagen The Red Hot Chili Peppers, formerly known as
Tony Flow and the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem, are a funk and punk rock band that
was founded in 1983. Although the members have changed numerous times during their almost 35–
year span of success, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have been known to be provocative at performances
and frequently utilize sexual innuendos in both lyrics and music videos. This is simply part of who
they are as a band. Consequently, fans can be blinded by the energy and upbeat instruments to the
extent that they may miss what is being said in the lyrics. This is certainly the case in the Red Hot
Chili Peppers 1991 hit song, "Give It Away." Fans may think that lead singer Anthony Kiedis is
talking about sex when he repeats, "What I've got you've got to get it put it in you," but he is
referring to giving away material belongings as the primary message (Red Hot Chili Peppers, l. 5). It
is easy to get caught up in the exuberance of the band during a performance and miss the key lyrics
that give a song's meaning away. The refrain is a key giveaway for the true meaning of "Give It
Away." Kiedis repeats, "Give it away give it away give it away give it away now" numerous times
throughout the song (l. 13). This is where he is literally referring to giving material possessions to
others and sharing the wealth to make the world a better place. Gaining all the wealth in the world
can't fill voids in a person's

Anthony Kiedis
Throughout the years celebrities have been accused of drug abuse. Many will deny it and blame it
on the media, but for one rocker this was not so. Anthony Kiedis, lead singer of the American band
Red Hot Chili Peppers, was blatant about his drug addiction. He even wrote a book about his life
called Scar Tissue. Throughout his life there were ups and downs that shaped him to be who he is
today. It is not the drug abuse that fascinates me about Kiedis but it is how he overcame who he was
back then to whom he is today. When analyzing Anthony Kiedis' life, his childhood, early band
years, the present day rocker, and whom he has influenced, including myself, must be broken down.

It is hard to comprehend why a father would put his son in an illegal position but we can only sit and
wonder...what was he thinking? It was not long before Anthony Kiedis had found his love for
marijuana nor was it long before he had his first sexual experience. However, even though Anthony
was a young junkie, he also became a young actor. First movie he auditioned and got the part for
was the movie F.I.S.T. Within the movie Anthony starred as Sylvester Stallone's son. Thinking that
Anthony was going to make it big only turned into a fluke at the time, but there was something else
big that Anthony had to face and that was high school. Throughout Anthony's education he used a
false address in order to go to one of the best schools in his area but after the school found out, it
was time for Anthony to go to the school where was meant to be at. While at the more prestigious
school Anthony went under the shorted name of Tony but now in a new atmosphere he instinctively
started to go under his full name Anthony. Now that he was out of one school and into another there
was the sense of loneliness for Kiedis. He felt completely alienated considering that he never grew
up with these new classmates. It was not until Anthony met Michael Balzary also known as Flea that
Kiedis soon found a liking for his new high school. These two boys soon became inseparable.
Anthony realized that the adult life that he had been living before started to

and Suck My Kiss." , I replied shakily as I was nervous. "Wow. That's impressive. I was going to
give you the tickets even if you didn't name the songs." , the radio announcer replied. I breathed out
in relief and began to smile. I had just won concert tickets to see a band that i've been obsessed with
ever since I was a kid and I could not have been happier. After the silence on the line, he began
asking me a bunch of questions about the band. "You really are a big fan. How old are you?" "15.", I

My First Broken Heart
"One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain."–Bob Marley
It was a humid summer night when I encountered my first broken heart. The wind rustled against the
bushes that lined my front porch. It was humid even though the breeze was present it didn't give
much relief. It was hot but the crickets still chirped, surrounding me with the songs of nature. It was
completely dark but the black sky was the perfect canvas to display the stars. That's something I
loved about my town, you always had stars. I closed my eyes and filled my lungs to their highest
capacity. Slowly exhaling I turn my head slightly to focus on my driveway. The sound of my mom's
minivan disturbed mother nature's lullaby. The car backed out of the driveway and down the
neighborhood. That was the first time my heart was broken, that was the night my mom left.
Walking into the empty house my dad sits motionless on the couch, the lights dimmed giving the
living room an eerie feel. I look at him, "drive?" I asked. We hop into the jeep and drive for hours,
emotionless. Neither of us talk or even make a sound all we do is listen to our favorite band, Red
Hot Chili Peppers. This is how we cope. Some people cry, clean, write we drive and listen.
"I think art is inherently nonviolent and it actually occupies your mind with creation rather than
destruction."– Anthony Kiedis lead singer of Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Descriptive Essay On A Haunted House
"Life is not measured by how many breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breathe
away." – Dr. Maya Angelou. To others this quote may spark an image of a serene beach overlooking
a breathtaking sunset, but to me, this quote entails my fond memories of going to a haunted mansion
and school field trip off to the wilderness. The chilly October breeze brushed our faces, while
twinkling stars studded the night sky.
My bucket was up to the rim and the chances of getting a cavity were higher. I was trick–or–treating
with couple of friends, and we had arrived at our last stop: Alpine's haunted mansion. "This going to
be easy" boasted Mia. We all stared at her. "What? You just have look at anything that's moving, and
tell it who's boss." she advised. We were waiting see who was going to actually stand their ground.
Walking down the steep incline, our path lit by the bright lights of police cars.
This can't be good I thought anxiously.
Before us was a pitch black metal gate, and we knew once we stepped forth, we couldn't turn back
until we had our candy
Clutching my bag, I made my way to the candy stand. Eery music drifted around us, while my eyes
preyed on every movement. To reach the candy stand, there was a stone path, stretching a good
thirty feet from the entrance. At either side of the path there were rows of lights revealing the still
ethos of skinny trees. "Did you guys hear something?" Shivani stammered.
We stopped and listened. Nothing.

Review Of The Red Hot Chili Peppers By The Way
I choose to do a biography on The Red Hot Chili Peppers for a few reasons. The first reason I
choose this band is because I was introduced to them by my dad when I found his record collection
and he let me listen to them on his record player at his parents house that he kept from college. The
second reason is because I have grown up listening to them and felt like this was a good opportunity
to learn more about one of my favorite bands.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers, formed in Los Angeles in 1983. By 1993 the band was still considered
relatively new to commercial fame with only having one hit album at this point. David Thompson,
author of Red Hot Chili Peppers By The Way tells us that, "In 2003, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are

Red Hot Chili Peppers success can be seen in many ways one of which is from the awards they have

won six of them. They are considered the most successful band in alternative rock radio history

Catcher in the Rye Song Project
"Under the Bridge" – Red Hot Chili Peppers Analysis In this song, the lead singer, Anthony Kiedis,
is describing how after a drug addiction he moved to a different city to start a new life. This relates
to Holden in Catcher in the Rye because after he was kicked out of school he had a hard decision to
make. He either could go to his home before his parents knew about the expulsion, or he could run
away to New York. Anthony and Holden both choose to go to the city. Also in the song and the
book, the singer and Holden turn to drugs as a way to help their lives. Obviously that is the wrong
choice, but anyways Holden, although underage, drinks as a means of an anti–depressant. "...The

This song fits in perfectly with how Holden is handling his problems. After being kicked out of a
private school in which his mother paid for, he delays telling her until he can get his emotions under
control. He goes to New York City and tries to get drunk to relieve his stress, as Billie Joe
Armstrong did with drugs. "Am I just paranoid? Or I'm just stoned." This song also talks about the
constant paranoia he faces. Holden also has to deal with being paranoid as he is clearly insecure. It
is rare that the reader will find Holden describing somebody positively. He is constantly making
shallow judgments about the people he encounters. He says, "I'm not kidding, some of these very
stupid girls can really knock you out on the dance floor." Before even having a conversation with
her, he already comes to the conclusion that she is a stupid girl. This proves his insecurity because
he is seeing his imperfections through others and criticizing them for it. "Unwell" – Matchbox
Twenty Analysis This song was written from the point of view of a depressed person, rather than a
crazy person. I feel that Holden would fall into the category of a depressed person rather than a
crazy person. He states several times that he really is just lonely. He says, "What I really feel like,
though, was committing suicide. I felt like jumping out the window." This may contribute to his
depression. This type of depression that he has

Mangonada Margaritas. Yep, you read that right! All of the flavors of a mangonada blended into a

My Middle School Self And Growing Up
Growing up is a journey we all have to travel. We all make our own paths on our adventure of
change. Along the way the path will be beautiful and smooth–sailing, bumpy and rough, and
sometimes conflict will appear out of the blue. At times forks in the road will show up and decisions
must be made. Change is inevitable. Throughout a lifetime decisions made will be small and slight,
or huge and major. It does not matter because one decision can change one's path completely. Even
the slightest change can make the difference. The decision could even be a change of hairstyle. A
change in hairstyle could lead to a new fashion sense, to a new genre of music, to a completely new
person. I myself have noticed many differences and similarities between my middle school self and
now; and it is only the beginning. One similarity between my middle school self and my current self
is my personality. Throughout middle school I was always upbeat and very outgoing. I loved talking
to new kids and making people feel welcome. Positive reinforcement was definitely my forte. At
any sporting event I was the girl cheering the loudest––and usually losing her voice. In middle
school I would express being outgoing by performing ballet and doing forensics. I also would sing
at my church. I am proud to say that I am still like this today. It is such a pleasure to be able to
brighten someone's day, which is why I am so happy that, in this case, I have not changed since
middle school. Besides my

Research Paper: The Evolution of Alternative Rock
a. Introduction/Overview A phrase coined by many emerging bands in the early 1980's, 'alternative
rock' has become an increasingly more popular term used to describe artists that try to be innately
different, yet veer away from the establishment and wish only to play the music they want to play
without "selling out". While it isn't as concentrated or specific as other genres like hip hop or
classical music, alternative music encompasses a wide variety of artists and songs over decades,
most of which could be subcategorized into grunge, metal, punk rock, progressive, new wave, and
even mo or folk rock. Alternative rock has fueled the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Based out of Hollywood, CA, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have overcome countless trials and
tribulations as they dealt with personal issues such as drug addiction and untimely death among
band mates, all the while topping the charts and trying to keep their laid back, 'SoCal' persona.
Though it may have seemed that the band often appealed to and even promoted the hard–partying,
slacker lifestyle, the band branched out as they gained popularity, and proved that they could hook
even the sunniest of audiences. Many would even be surprised to hear that the Red Hot Chili
Peppers was built from collaboration between Flea and Keidis during their college years, after
performing in a KISS–inspired hard rock group that varied greatly from the sounds of what we now
recognize as the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Together, they found out that Kiedis' lyrics and Flea's music
combined perfectly, and took a leap of faith in evolving their sound. After this fateful collaboration,
Keidis and Flea decided on the name and recruited former band mates HIilel Slovak as the guitarist
and Jack Irons as the drummer. Finally, they rounded the LA club circuit, pulling stunts that playing
these local shows nude (except for tactically placed socks) and making a name for themselves until

Essay on The Practice of Music Censorship
Music censorship has taken many forms in the past, but many forms are overbearing and generally
ridiculous. Censorship comes in many forms. The practice of censorship is defined as "...the act of
changing or suppressing speech or writing that is considered subversive of the common good."
(Merriam–Webster). Old forms of censorship included not allowing airplay, refusal of sale, and
refusal of publishment. The major issue found with those that oppose censorship, is that they have
no real grounds to address the problem sensibly. Most focus of censorship, however, is focused on
the younger genres of music such as Metal, Punk, and especially Rap. The structure/ practice of
censoring "offensive," lyrics during mid–song comes in different ... Show more content on

There is no area for the language to be expressed and let be untouched.(EO) Much of America's
censorship has seen specific targets in what has been chosen to be censored. A wondrous example
would be the foreign metal–pop influence band, Rammstein. A number of their songs were banned
from television, or were not permitted to play on daytime airtimes.(Rammstein) An example of one
of their songs banned, is a track that's titled "Ich Will." When this track's name is translated to
english, it reads "I want." The video accompanying the song portrays the band committing crimes of
terrorism, then later receiving airtime for their behaviour. Politicians actually moved to have the
video and song banned from the US on account of the behaviour shown in the video.(Rammstein)
References of bands being dis–promoted for their portrayals in lyrics and video accompaniments go
on for ages. A short list of examples of songs/ artists that saw censorship in newer music consists of
"Tell Me Baby, (RHCP)," also "Killing in the Name of, (Rage Against the Machine)" and "Closer,
(NIN)" So overall, Music has it's own particular area of censorship which is unique and flawed in
it's own way. Although there have been some more recent changes in music to support the freedom
of artists, the past has been condemning and rough for artists to easily "express," themselves through

Song Analysis: Red Hot Chili Peppers
Red Hot Chili Peppers
The alternative rock band, Red Hot Chili Peppers, formed their band in Los Angeles, California in
1983 when signing with EMI, a British record label. The band was not happy with their first few
albums and were heavily into drugs, thus having an unsuccessful first tour. The guitarist, Hillel
Slovak, died from drug overdose early in their career. After Hillel died, the band saw an increase in
their success. Their first, second, third, and fourth albums were not huge hits or big sellers, but in
1989, Mothers Milk, was released and they started to rise in the music world. As the band got more
popular, they started to get out of hand with indecent exposure and reckless behavior. When the Red
Hot Chili Peppers came out with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning of their career, the songs were sexual, comical, and based on friendship. After
Hillel died, the songs became reflective of personal experiences. For example, Mother's Milk is
dedicated to Slovak. The song, "Knock Me Down" on Mother's Milk reflects on Hillel Slovak's
death and the effects of drugs. Another famous song on the album, Higher Ground, is about
connecting with yourself and your spirituality. The album One Hot Minute has lyrics about pain that
were inspired from Kiedis' heroin and cocaine use (Fricke, 2006). Californication and its lyrics are
about the meaning of life and life lessons. Most of the songs on the album are about lessons that the
members learned through experiences. According to the article, "Red Hot Chili Peppers –
Californication", the album "tells a tale of wandering souls who've lost their way searching for the
American Dream in California" (Larkin). Love is the theme for By the Way and Stadium Arcadium.
According to a Rolling Stone article, by David Fricke, Kiedis said, "love and women, pregnancies
and marriages, relationship struggles–those are real and profound influences on this record. And it's
great, because it wasn't just me writing about the fact that I'm in love. It was everybody in the band"

Red Hot Chili Peppers Song Calfornication
The Red Hot Chili Peppers song Californication discuss' how society has been perverted by
Hollywood and turned society into something that is unrealistic and artificial. Most things in our
society today are artificial, rarely is anything pure. If one was to look back in time societies morals
are very different then they are now. One example of this can be seen in the act of fornication, or
better known as sex before marriage. In today's culture being a virgin at 16 is seen as negative thing,
while in the past it was seen as being pure. Everything we want or need is materialistic and heavily
influenced by Hollywood. In the chorus of the song "First born unicorn/Hard core soft porn/Dream

your views and feelings. In the eighth verse of the song "Pay your surgeon very well/To break the

how people crave to be fake, to be ageless. If everyone becomes this ageless non–human like being

Hollywood's standard, however in an attempt to improve themselves they are really making

Middle School Self Reflection Paper
Growing up is a journey we all have to travel. Everyone makes their own paths on an adventure of
change. Along the way, the path will be beautiful and smooth–sailing, bumpy and rough, and
sometimes conflict will appear out of the blue.
Throughout middle school, I was always upbeat and very outgoing. I loved
talking to new kids and making people feel welcome. Positive reinforcement was definitely my
forte. At any sporting event, I was the girl cheering the loudest––and usually losing her voice. In
middle school, I would express being outgoing by performing ballet and doing forensics. I also
would sing at my church. I am proud to say that I am still like this today. It is such a pleasure to be
able to brighten someone's day, which is why I am so happy that, in this case, I have not changed
since middle school. Besides my personality, I also look very similar today as I did back in middle
school. My hair is still black and very straight. My height, sadly, is also pretty much the same as it
was a few years ago. I have been sporting the five foot two inches stature for a long time now.
Makeup has not come into my life quite yet on a daily basis. In middle school I never wore makeup
for a few reasons: I was too lazy, my mom did not want me to wear it, and I flat out did not know
the first thing about makeup. Now, I am still too lazy to put on a full face of makeup, and I do not
have the knowledge as well. So, I choose to just not wear it. Additionally to my similarities to
middle school and now, my friends are the same. My best friend, for the longest time,

Individualism And Transcendentalism Similarities
A city and a forest can be completely different, yet they can be of the closest of similarities.
However, transcendentalists believed that the forest is our home and the city is a shamed copy.
Transcendentalism started with Ralph Waldo Emerson. It mainly focused primarily upon being
different from everyone else and also about how nature is the primary source of life. Being out of
the ordinary and looking to nature almost as a "godmother" are some of the main points of
transcendentalism. The transcendentalists believed that we should not judge ourselves based upon
the ideas of others. Instead, they believed that we should view ourselves primarily through
ourselves. They also believed that nature provides life for us, while song artists today ... Show more

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are a band that made the song known as Under the Bridge. Within this
song, the lead singer sings about how a city takes care of him. While he sings about a city, the song
also infers that it may not be the machines and pollution helping the man, rather it would be the
natural surroundings that help the man. While the singer doesn't point it out in broad daylight,
throughout the whole song the man sings about how the city supports him. Much like how
transcendentalists believed that nature supports us. Transcendentalists would agree with this belief
because they believed that nature provides life for all. Much like how the singer sang about how the
surrounding areas provided for him. While nature provides and has provided much for humans, the
humans themselves have to go into advancements sometimes without the help of nature. But, nature
can provide a lot for the people of earth. Under the Bridge is full of lines explaining a man's
relationship with nature, and it all describes a very important aspect of transcendentalists'

Lollapalooza and The Alternative Music Culture Essay
There have been many events in the course of music history that has shaped how what becomes
popular and what is deemed "proper" in terms of music we should be consuming. In 1991,
Lollapalooza, a multi city touring festival in the United States, highlighting alternative culture
changed how music was consumed from there on forward. With the popularity of the festival and
the highlighting of the alternative culture it represented the music industry took note, not long after

For the purposes of this paper, alternative music culture while has a wide definition will be focused
on the music culture that was evident in Los Angeles between about 1985 until it became more
mainstream in 1991. This centre of the culture in LA is important because most of the important
record companies were and still are, based out of LA, since there was this centre of culture decision
makers it's not surprising that the city became a hot spot for musicians who wanted to become
recognized. Also important is the sheer size of LA itself, any time you get a city as large as it is you
get a wide variety of people living in a smaller area, communities come together and form various
subgroups. One subgroup evident in LA at this time was those who fell outside the dominate music
groups of the time, mainly, new–wave, hip–hop and hair metal (Mullen 2005). This subgroup was as
varied as those who did not fall under the alternative heading, musically they could prescribe to
anything from the funk roots of the Red Hot Chili Peppers to the 70's influenced rock of Jane's
Addiction.
More importantly the people who fell under the alternative culture felt like their voices were not
being heard in the music that dominated the air waves at the time. It can be hypothesized that the
alternative music culture in LA grew out of a rejection of the hyper masculine, misogynistic values
of the hair metal scene that dominated LA and popular music culture for much of the 80's. A

Frostbite Analysis
When the only two goods you have, left are your dog and the clothes you have on you when it is
below zero outside and you are about to die is why the man has the hardest conflict. The Man is
experiencing his first winter in the brutally cold weather and has to travel a moderate distance. He
thinks he is wearing enough layers, but he doesn't think he needs to cover his face. Once he gets out
on his journey he realizes it is way colder outside than what he thought. He starts to become very
cold and builds a fire to keep warm, but must keep on the journey and hopefully so he doesn't die.

Main Characters In Hunters In The Snow
As I read the short story Hunters in the Snow, I was very intrigued in finding out what was going to
happen next. One thing I didn't understand was why Tobias Wolff did not provide information as to
how the three men met. It kind of throws off the story in the beginning because we don't know any
information about any of the men. I was very disappointed in the ending of the story because the
author didn't let readers know whether or not Kenny made it to the hospital. Tobias Wolff's Hunters
in the Snow was surprisingly a very compelling story, I also love the outdoors and hunting is one of
my hobbies so it kept me on the edge of my seat. Hunters in the Snow is a fictional short story
written in 1981 by Tobias Wolff. The story takes place in the suburbs of Spokane, Washington. The
story has three main characters, but the the story focuses more on a character named Tub. I got a
hint earlier on in the story that Tub might be a little overweight because Kenny asks "You still on
that diet?" I came to a conclusion that Tub certainly is overweight towards the resolution of the story
when Tub slips and drops Kenny. He tumbles down to the bottom of the drive and yells "You fat
moron, you aren't good for diddly" Tub shows sensitivity because when Frank and Kenny make
jokes about him being fat he gets upset and mouths back to them. I find that Frank and Tub are alike
in a few ways. They are both thoughtful of other people's feelings, for example, when Kenny would

My Journey
The journey of life is not meant to be feared and planned; it's meant to be traveled and enjoyed.
Waking up every morning, I still can't believe it's been almost two years since I moved to America. I
mean it's crazy, one year ago all the street signs are in Chinese and the next thing you know I wake
up in a world of English. I can still remember the day I step off the airplane, it was a day that
changed my life. Some of my friends were amazed by how quickly I adapted to America, but that's
not true. I had a transition year when I was 13. I have to say; I'm feeling very different from two
years ago when I first walk into a world where everyone speaks English. What most of my friends
don't know is that I didn't go to Jericho straightway; I was in Syosset for 8th grade. I remember
walking into the building for the first time. My heart was pounding; I was sweating. I reported to the
administrator, and I was taken to the classroom by the social study teacher (kind of a leading teacher
of the class). I walked through the classroom door, and I sort of had a panic attack when everybody
looked at me. God, I really wish I was dead or something at that moment. I have to say how I landed
in that school was a mystery to solve. In the entire school building including staff members, I'm
probably the only atheist there. Every Wednesday the whole class spends about 3 periods on Mass.
On my first Wednesday there, which is surprising also my first day there, I felt

When I first browsed through the different topics on which we were to write essays on, I was

reason, the bands I have selected are as follows: The Beastie Boys, Fleetwood Mac, The Police, Red

One of the main reasons why I adore the Beastie Boys like many others is because of their care–free
energetic aura that they mix together with captivating sounds discretely concealing rhetorical puns.
What makes them especially unique to me is their transformation from a rowdy party punk band to a

Persuasive Essay On Privacy And Privacy
Privacy in the 21st century is constantly violated. Any life, or even your own life, could potentially

Music Piracy: From the Pirates Perspective
I don't wear a black patch over my eye. I don't have any missing limbs, replaced by a hook or a
wooden leg that clicks when I walk. I have never owned a parrot; I don't have a cool name like

I sacrificed blood, sweat, and hours upon hours of my life, all for my love of music. After graduating

When I arrived at my new home, I immediately scoured the streets, searching for a music store. I
found the only location in the area and excitedly perused the selection. When I picked up a copy of
the new Red Hot Chili Peppers CD, I was shocked. CD prices had spiked up to $18 and $19. Such a
price was unthinkable considering the new list of expenses that came with being on my own.
Devastated, I was forced to go home empty handed, defeated by the industry I had supported since I

As new albums continued to come out, I was forced to rely on the radio, and that was no way to live.

American in the 90's Essay
The era of the 1990's was an explosive time in American history both figuratively and literally. In

nation had new advancements in space travel, our military and the way of life preparing for the turn
of the century. As a country we didn't know what the new millennium had to bring for us, but we
were ready. Most significantly changing America though was from our creativeness that took place,

knowing what to do after December 31st, 1999. The computers shorting out also struck fear that

destruction. Fear of terrorism was also brought upon by the bombings of the World Trade Centers.
This event happened by a truck with bombs planted in the back of it to be parked and detonated
under the centers. Even though the bomb had successfully gone off, no significant structural damage
took place. This did end up causing wide spread fear of terrorism though. The final fear that made
the 90's such a memorable era was the Hubble Space Telescope failure. After years of design, the
Hubble Space Telescope was launched into space. The telescope ended up faulty though with
unfocused lenses. This made the multimillion–dollar project almost a complete failure. In solution

What Is The Purpose Of Teenage Rebellion
The purpose of teenage rebellion is for young adults to show their independence from their parents

other article, Woodstock Gets Ugly, it is said that placing one hard–core band after another could be
a mistake and may be the cause of the riots, or other happening, to be placed on the organizers of the
event, the bands or the audience. This shows how the companies' or authors' views can be bias
against certain groups or ideas by placing the blame on a single band, but a non bias paper places the
blame all around. The motivation in

My Love Of Family
American journalist Charles Kuralt said, "The love of family and the admiration of friends is much
more important than wealth and privilege." What he is saying is that even if you have many
privileges and a lot of money, it does not mean anything if you do not have family and friends. My
family is very supportive of me. They always encourage me to do what makes me happy, and what I
think is right. Even if we sometimes disagree, I know that I will always have them for guidance. I
also have support and love from my friends, who are always there for me. I know that when I go
through my life, I have the privilege of being supported and cared about by many people.

It can also be good to have a friend with you when you start doing something new, so you will not
be completely on your own. However, if you do start on your own, it can be a good opportunity to
make new friends. I have made many new friends from doing activities like soccer, Girl Scouts, and
dance (although I do not do those anymore), as well as activities I still take part in, like drama club.
I have made many friends through drama club, and most of them are in different grades, so I do not
think I would have gotten that opportunity if I had never done drama club.
A big part of my identity and what has shaped me into who I am is musical theatre and Broadway.
Although it may seem like something small, having the experience of going to see so many shows
has affected who I am. My Mom Mom is and always has been a huge fan of Broadway, so my dad
grew up listening to a lot of show tunes and going to see shows. Because he had this experience, he
introduced me to show tunes and going to see shows, and I was able to have a similar experience to
him. Throughout my life, my parents have always taken my sister and me to see shows, even if they
were not on Broadway. (My brother does not usually come, because he is more into sports than
musical theatre.) The show that had the most impact on me was probably Wicked. I went to see
Wicked in Philadelphia, and I loved it. Seeing that show sparked my interest in seeing other shows,
and even performing in

My Life Of My Brother
Brother I have spent most of my life as an older brother. My little brother, Quinn, was born on July
26th in 2005. I don't remember much about it though because I was only three. My parents tell me I
was never jealous of Quinn, like most little children are once a sibling comes into the world. My
brother and I have become great friends, we fight alot, but then again what brothers don't. We share
many things, Our Computer, PlayStation, Video games, and even some clothes. It sucks sometimes
but It also makes us closer in an odd way. My brother and I look very similar despite the three year
age gap. Whenever we go places we are always asked if we are twins. One time someone even
mistook me for my brother and congratulated me for a speech he had just done. I also have a sister
named Paige. When she was born, I was in first grade. It was one of my first major memories, I got
out of school early it was great. My sister is insane. She somehow has red hair even though most of
us are blond. Paige is treated like the baby of the family even at age 8. My sister and I have a pretty
good relationship. We get along most of the time and even sometimes team up on my brother.
Family is important and I'm glad that I have a good one. Music I enjoy music a lot, both playing and
listening. In fifth grade, I started playing the saxophone. I wasn't the greatest but it was still fun. I
quit school band along with the saxophone in seventh grade and picked up my new favorite, the
guitar. The

Descriptive Dress Shopping
Dress shopping was not the way I had planned to spend that Friday. Stores full of self–obsessing
girls who have a false idea of how an artificially composed article of clothing can boost their
confidence or make a night "one–to–remember". I wanted to be a part of this but I was unsure if I
still wanted to go; however, I got myself into this. We were driving on the interstate in my
girlfriend's grandfather's truck. Zaina (my girlfriend) had allowed me to come with her mother and
little brother to what I thought was going to be the longest day of my life! The entire time in the car
I was crammed into the bucket seats in the back of the truck, where I could hear the suspension
making funny creaking sounds and that something was very wrong with the transmission.
Regardless of the situation we were having a blast: the sun was shining, the Red–Hot Chili Peppers
were on the radio, and it was a beautiful seventy–five–degree day in Northern Illinois. As her
boyfriend, I had already made a list describing the ideal dress for Zaina. I did not want her to wear
something that she did not feel perfect in, nor did I want her to wish anything was different. The
dress had to be flawless in her eyes. I kept telling myself, "What a dress means to this girl must be
how I feel about Les Paul's and Stratocasters". Each instrument has a personality and a flavor that
creates emotional and personal connections with a musician. When material objects are allowed to

Essay on Red Hot Chili Peppers
Red Hot Chili Peppers
A passion for foods from the American Southwest is sweeping through the country. The main
component and most popular item of this fad is the chili pepper, an item of tremendous variability
and a staple of many people in Central America. In this country, chili peppers were once only found
in specialized ethnic stores, but now it is just as likely to be found at the neighborhood Kroger. For
most people, however, their knowledge stops here. Through this paper I hope to educate the reader
on some other aspects of this intriguing vegetable, such as its history, chemistry, and uses.
There is some confusion over what a "chili pepper" is. To many it is only the hot varieties of pepper,
such as the jalapeno or the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dr. Chanca described chili peppers as the native's principle food and compared them to the turnip
(Andrews 1984).
The seeds of the chili pepper were brought back to Spain, where it was grown in monastery gardens.
Portuguese traders then spread the chili peppers to many far flung locations, such as India,
Indonesia, and Persia (Andrews 1984).
Chile peppers became popular due to their great variability in size, shape, and color. Unfortunately,
this long proved to be a problem for the taxonomists, who frequently had trouble telling the
difference between a different variety and a different species. It wasn't until the 1950's that it was
decided that there were five main species of chili peppers, and twenty wild ones (Proulx 1985). The
five main species are: Capsicum annum, Capsicum frutescens, Capsicum chinense, Capsicum
baccatum, and Capsicum pubescens. However, it is considered impossible to develop a system of
classification that would cover all of the chili peppers, due to the great variation among the members
of the same species, especially in places such as Mexico (Smith, Villalon, and Villa 1987).
Man's interest in chili peppers has resulted in new varieties, such as the TAM Jalapeno, Hidalgo
Serrano, and Numex Big Jim, which have a milder flavor or are more resistant to disease. In order to
make chili peppers more palatable to the public, chili pepper breeders are breeding varieties that are

Music's Power To Convey Equality & Social Change

  • 1. The And Harmony And The Implementation Of World Wide Equality INTRODUCTION Music has the ability to convey emotions and observatory feeling without censorship or the reservation of diction and language as one would in a normal conversation. In today 's modern society there are sensitive topics that do not necessarily arise attention in newspaper headlines or in any print for that matter. As observatory humans we tend to take note of outside issues and express them in ways where others can understand and interpret them. Interracial peace and harmony and the implementation of world wide equality is an idea that all Americans have been exposed to throughout our lifetime by means of music. An example of this open way of thinking or A–typical American ideology of equal opportunity is given to us by an artist of the name Stevie Wonder. Through Stevie Wonders song "Black man" from the album Songs in the Key of Life (1976) the song is a positive implication to the pointing out of skin colors in different races and the contributions that have been made to society various forms of life, he exemplifies the idea that we are all created equal and we can all contribute to society in a positive way. The song demonstrates an upbeat tempo along with a joyful and higher pitched vocal inflection blesses the song with a positive and uplifting spirit. A more modern and uniquely different interpretation of social outrage through music is "The Power of Equality" by The Red Hot Chilli Peppers from the album Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991). • 2. The City Of Fort Worth, Texas I grew up in the suburbs on the North side of Fort Worth, Texas, more specifically Keller, Texas. Keller had a population close to 40,000 people by the time I left for Texas A&M, but when I first arrived there the population was only about 20,000 people. It is a growing town with a ton of commodities and things to do, new activities are always popping up, such as the new movie theater that was just built 5 miles away from my house. Being part of the suburbs of Fort Worth, it is mostly organized in housing developments, with shopping centers scattered around. In each housing development there were at least two schools, ranging from elementary to high school. At the center of the town is downtown Keller, with the Town Hall at the center of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Music has a big impact on my life, it is one of my favorite things in the world. My music library is so diverse, so it is hard for me to pick my favorite genre, from hip hop to rock to country. I find it all tasteful. If I had to say may favorite though it would be alternative rock, mostly because my favorite band is the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Their bass lines are amazing, and their music has so much heart and emotion in it, it's something that everyone can jam along to. My least favorite would have to be screamo, an off shoot of metal. It is just too angry and you cannot understand anything the singer is saying, it isn't something that is easy for me to appreciate. The Hobbit is my favorite book, the ore behind it keeps me interested and the way it is written is a completely different style than today's writing. The writing style almost seems archaic but it has an elegance to it that is extremely difficult to achieve. My upperclassmen are the heroes in my life right now. Being in the Corps of Cadets at A&M can be difficult sometimes, and without them motivating me and supporting me, I don't believe I would be able to complete half of the tasks that I have completed. Jasper likes a wide variety of music but his favorite is old bands like AC/DC, The Beatles, Guns n' Roses, The Red Hot Chili peppers, and Bon Jovi. I would have taken Jasper for the type of guy to like nothing but classical music. I guess I shouldn't judge a handsomely dressed book by its cover. "It's a surprise." He answers. "Is it a surprise or do you just not know yet?" I ask. He laughs. "The second one." He answers and turns the music back up. We get to his place, it looks like a huge property. • 4. Give It Away Analysis "Give it Away": Life Lessons from Nina Hagen The Red Hot Chili Peppers, formerly known as Tony Flow and the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem, are a funk and punk rock band that was founded in 1983. Although the members have changed numerous times during their almost 35– year span of success, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have been known to be provocative at performances and frequently utilize sexual innuendos in both lyrics and music videos. This is simply part of who they are as a band. Consequently, fans can be blinded by the energy and upbeat instruments to the extent that they may miss what is being said in the lyrics. This is certainly the case in the Red Hot Chili Peppers 1991 hit song, "Give It Away." Fans may think that lead singer Anthony Kiedis is talking about sex when he repeats, "What I've got you've got to get it put it in you," but he is referring to giving away material belongings as the primary message (Red Hot Chili Peppers, l. 5). It is easy to get caught up in the exuberance of the band during a performance and miss the key lyrics that give a song's meaning away. The refrain is a key giveaway for the true meaning of "Give It Away." Kiedis repeats, "Give it away give it away give it away give it away now" numerous times throughout the song (l. 13). This is where he is literally referring to giving material possessions to others and sharing the wealth to make the world a better place. • 5. Anthony Kiedis Throughout the years celebrities have been accused of drug abuse. Many will deny it and blame it on the media, but for one rocker this was not so. Anthony Kiedis, lead singer of the American band Red Hot Chili Peppers, was blatant about his drug addiction. He even wrote a book about his life called Scar Tissue. Throughout his life there were ups and downs that shaped him to be who he is today. It is not the drug abuse that fascinates me about Kiedis but it is how he overcame who he was back then to whom he is today. When analyzing Anthony Kiedis' life, his childhood, early band years, the present day rocker, and whom he has influenced, including myself, must be broken down. It was not long before Anthony Kiedis had found his love for marijuana nor was it long before he had his first sexual experience. However, even though Anthony was a young junkie, he also became a young actor. First movie he auditioned and got the part for was the movie F.I.S.T. Within the movie Anthony starred as Sylvester Stallone's son. Thinking that Anthony was going to make it big only turned into a fluke at the time, but there was something else big that Anthony had to face and that was high school. Throughout Anthony's education he used a false address in order to go to one of the best schools in his area but after the school found out, it was time for Anthony to go to the school where was meant to be at. While at the more prestigious school Anthony went under the shorted name of Tony but now in a new atmosphere he instinctively started to go under his full name Anthony. Now that he was out of one school and into another there was the sense of loneliness for Kiedis. He felt completely alienated considering that he never grew up with these new classmates. The wind rustled against the bushes that lined my front porch. It was humid even though the breeze was present it didn't give much relief. It was hot but the crickets still chirped, surrounding me with the songs of nature. It was completely dark but the black sky was the perfect canvas to display the stars. That's something I loved about my town, you always had stars. I closed my eyes and filled my lungs to their highest capacity. Slowly exhaling I turn my head slightly to focus on my driveway. The sound of my mom's minivan disturbed mother nature's lullaby. The car backed out of the driveway and down the neighborhood. That was the first time my heart was broken, that was the night my mom left. Walking into the empty house my dad sits motionless on the couch, the lights dimmed giving the living room an eerie feel. To others this quote may spark an image of a serene beach overlooking a breathtaking sunset, but to me, this quote entails my fond memories of going to a haunted mansion and school field trip off to the wilderness. The chilly October breeze brushed our faces, while twinkling stars studded the night sky. My bucket was up to the rim and the chances of getting a cavity were higher. Catcher in the Rye Song Project "Under the Bridge" – Red Hot Chili Peppers Analysis In this song, the lead singer, Anthony Kiedis, is describing how after a drug addiction he moved to a different city to start a new life. This relates to Holden in Catcher in the Rye because after he was kicked out of school he had a hard decision to make. He either could go to his home before his parents knew about the expulsion, or he could run away to New York. Anthony and Holden both choose to go to the city. Also in the song and the book, the singer and Holden turn to drugs as a way to help their lives. He goes to New York City and tries to get drunk to relieve his stress, as Billie Joe Armstrong did with drugs. "Am I just paranoid? Or I'm just stoned." This song also talks about the constant paranoia he faces. Holden also has to deal with being paranoid as he is clearly insecure. It is rare that the reader will find Holden describing somebody positively. He is constantly making shallow judgments about the people he encounters. He says, "I'm not kidding, some of these very stupid girls can really knock you out on the dance floor." Before even having a conversation with her, he already comes to the conclusion that she is a stupid girl. This proves his insecurity because he is seeing his imperfections through others and criticizing them for it. I feel that Holden would fall into the category of a depressed person rather than a crazy person. He states several times that he really is just lonely. While the singer doesn't point it out in broad daylight, throughout the whole song the man sings about how the city supports him. Much like how transcendentalists believed that nature supports us. Transcendentalists would agree with this belief because they believed that nature provides life for all. Much like how the singer sang about how the surrounding areas provided for him. While nature provides and has provided much for humans, the humans themselves have to go into advancements sometimes without the help of nature. But, nature can provide a lot for the people of earth. Under the Bridge is full of lines explaining a man's relationship with nature, and it all describes a very important aspect of transcendentalists' ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Lollapalooza and The Alternative Music Culture Essay There have been many events in the course of music history that has shaped how what becomes popular and what is deemed "proper" in terms of music we should be consuming. In 1991, Lollapalooza, a multi city touring festival in the United States, highlighting alternative culture changed how music was consumed from there on forward. With the popularity of the festival and the highlighting of the alternative culture it represented the music industry took note, not long after the festival and explosion of alternative music hit mainstream music culture. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For the purposes of this paper, alternative music culture while has a wide definition will be focused on the music culture that was evident in Los Angeles between about 1985 until it became more mainstream in 1991. This centre of the culture in LA is important because most of the important record companies were and still are, based out of LA, since there was this centre of culture decision makers it's not surprising that the city became a hot spot for musicians who wanted to become recognized. Also important is the sheer size of LA itself, any time you get a city as large as it is you get a wide variety of people living in a smaller area, communities come together and form various subgroups. One subgroup evident in LA at this time was those who fell outside the dominate music groups of the time, mainly, new–wave, hip–hop and hair metal (Mullen 2005). This subgroup was as varied as those who did not fall under the alternative heading, musically they could prescribe to anything from the funk roots of the Red Hot Chili Peppers to the 70's influenced rock of Jane's Addiction. More importantly the people who fell under the alternative culture felt like their voices were not being heard in the music that dominated the air waves at the time. It can be hypothesized that the alternative music culture in LA grew out of a rejection of the hyper masculine, misogynistic values of the hair metal scene that dominated LA and popular music culture for much of the 80's. One thing I didn't understand was why Tobias Wolff did not provide information as to how the three men met. It kind of throws off the story in the beginning because we don't know any information about any of the men. I was very disappointed in the ending of the story because the author didn't let readers know whether or not Kenny made it to the hospital. Tobias Wolff's Hunters in the Snow was surprisingly a very compelling story, I also love the outdoors and hunting is one of my hobbies so it kept me on the edge of my seat. Hunters in the Snow is a fictional short story written in 1981 by Tobias Wolff. The story takes place in the suburbs of Spokane, Washington. The story has three main characters, but the the story focuses more on a character named Tub. I got a hint earlier on in the story that Tub might be a little overweight because Kenny asks "You still on that diet?" I came to a conclusion that Tub certainly is overweight towards the resolution of the story when Tub slips and drops Kenny. He tumbles down to the bottom of the drive and yells "You fat moron, you aren't good for diddly" Tub shows sensitivity because when Frank and Kenny make jokes about him being fat he gets upset and mouths back to them. I find that Frank and Tub are alike in a few ways. They are both thoughtful of other people's feelings, for example, when Kenny would joke around with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Waking up every morning, I still can't believe it's been almost two years since I moved to America. I mean it's crazy, one year ago all the street signs are in Chinese and the next thing you know I wake up in a world of English. I can still remember the day I step off the airplane, it was a day that changed my life. Some of my friends were amazed by how quickly I adapted to America, but that's not true. I had a transition year when I was 13. I have to say; I'm feeling very different from two years ago when I first walk into a world where everyone speaks English. What most of my friends don't know is that I didn't go to Jericho straightway; I was in Syosset for 8th grade. I remember walking into the building for the first time. My heart was pounding; I was sweating. I reported to the administrator, and I was taken to the classroom by the social study teacher (kind of a leading teacher of the class). I walked through the classroom door, and I sort of had a panic attack when everybody looked at me. God, I really wish I was dead or something at that moment. I have to say how I landed in that school was a mystery to solve. In the entire school building including staff members, I'm probably the only atheist there. I firmly believe that I was born in the wrong generation of music because I am a hardcore oldies junkie at heart. For this reason, the bands I have selected are as follows: The Beastie Boys, Fleetwood Mac, The Police, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Johnny Cash, and The Righteous Brothers. One of the main reasons why I adore the Beastie Boys like many others is because of their care–free energetic aura that they mix together with captivating sounds discretely concealing rhetorical puns. What makes them especially unique to me is their transformation from a rowdy party punk band to a mixture of pop, rock, and hip–hop. The seeds of the chili pepper were brought back to Spain, where it was grown in monastery gardens. Chile peppers became popular due to their great variability in size, shape, and color. Unfortunately, this long proved to be a problem for the taxonomists, who frequently had trouble telling the difference between a different variety and a different species. It wasn't until the 1950's that it was decided that there were five main species of chili peppers, and twenty wild ones (Proulx 1985). The five main species are: Capsicum annum, Capsicum frutescens, Capsicum chinense, Capsicum baccatum, and Capsicum pubescens. However, it is considered impossible to develop a system of classification that would cover all of the chili peppers, due to the great variation among the members of the same species, especially in places such as Mexico (Smith, Villalon, and Villa 1987).
