Descriptive Essay On Ttto Bene
The smooth, heart felt voice of Jersey Boy Frank Sinatra floods my ears as I enter Mario's Tutto
Bene. The dim, lit dining room with hanging Tiffany Lamps and era style tables from the 1940's
takes you back into an era of glamor and organized crime. The half–moon Italian leather booths that
surround the outmost of the dinner room are soft and comfortable. The authentic Italian foods such
as: Penne Vodka, Chicken Saltimbocca, Shrimp Scampi and Veal Parmigiana engulf your sense of
smell and make your mouth water. The rich Red and White wines that are imported directly from
Italy sing a symphony across your taste buds. This is New Jersey dining at its best.
Mario's Tutto Bene is the very image of Italian beauty, comfort and cuisine. The walls are painted a
dark wine color with deep brown woodwork adorning the walls and doorways. The long dark brown
bar that stretches out before you is sculpted by hand and polished to a high gloss, reflecting your
very image off of it, like a mirror. There is a sleek, shiny, black Piano in perfect opposition of the
bar, set up on a small stage, enclosed by wood banisters that stand guard on either side of the stairs
polished in the same deep hue of the bar. The half–moon Italian leather booths surround the
outermost area of the dining hall, leaving room for tables, large enough to accommodate 8 – 10
people in the middle.
If someone prefers to enjoy their meal outside, the hostess walks them through double glass doors
out onto the veranda. Hand

Does Pineapple Belong On Pizza?
Does Pineapple Belong on Pizza? The twentieth century redefined the history of mankind and
heralded a new age, and two of perhaps the world's most polarizing questions emerged from it:
Should we have dropped the bomb? Does pineapple belong on pizza? The answer to the former
question remains ambiguous, but the answer to the latter is a clear, definitive, resonating no.
Concocted in 1962 by Sam Panopoulos, the combination of pineapple and pizza is an abomination
in itself. Pineapple has a place in the world, but where it certainly doesn't belong is on a pizza. The
basic ingredients found in pizza are glutenous wheat dough, olive oil, tomatoes, and cheese, and
typical toppings include olives, cured meats and mushrooms. These foods all share ... Show more

The archetypal pizza, pizza Margherita was born in a royal Neapolitan palace and named in honor of
Queen Margherita. On the other hand, pineapples are natives of the New World, originating from the
tropics of South America. The presence of pineapple of pizza ruins centuries of traditional Italian
culture. One may argue that tomatoes also come from the New World, but tomatoes have become so
particular to and ubiquitous in Italy, they have come to symbolize the cuisine of this very nation.
Italian cuisine cannot be Italian cuisine without tomatoes, whereas pineapples belong in the tropics,
not on an Italian dish. Pineapple dishes include pina colada, pineapple chutney, and pineapple
teriyaki, which are all exotic, tropical dishes. Something as Italian and Old World as pizza does not
belong near pineapples––these two worlds do not mix. Just take a look at what happened when
Christopher Columbus, an Old World explorer, arrived in the tropics––he brought a host of lethal
diseases to the people of the New World and pillaged their villages. Pineapple pizza is the

society. Today, 23 percent of Australians were born in another country and just over 25 percent of

habits to Australia, which has resulted in the expansion of the diet of all Australians. As people
migrated here, they brought their traditional food habits, preparation techniques and cooking
methods with them. They then had to adapt these to the foods available within Australia.
Italy is one of many countries that has transformed the Australian food culture extremely

Food in Italy
Introduction
There is a saying that states 'one either lives to eat or eats to live' and Italy as a country is ruled by
the former. Italy is a culture that is rich and saturated in their traditions of cooking. They take pride
in their food and live by the credo that food is only used if it is fresh, local and in season. There has
been much debate on what defines Italian food and through research one can see that Italian food is
not typical of a specific dish, rather that each region offers a new variance of depth and originality
that is not common to the Americanized beliefs of solely pasta and pizza. Yes one could lump Italian
food into categories such as breads, pasta, olive oil, cured meats and cheese but each of these foods

One way Piedmontese love to eat their vegetables is with a bagna caurda, one of their most authentic
dishes. In a terracotta pot, garlic and anchovies are simmered with olive oil to form a thick sauce,
then raw seasonal vegetables and breads are dipped into the sauce and eaten. Although this is one of
Piedmont prized dishes, the climate is not conducive to grow olive trees and therefore to produce
olive oil. However, Piedmont has a standing relationship with neighbouring region Liguria and
trades wine for olive oil (Costanzia, 2009). The food richest in tradition, uniqueness and specialty to
Piedmont is the white truffle. Each year a truffle festival is held on the first Sunday of October
bringing in thousands of people from all over the world to hunt for truffles and celebrate the harvest.
Truffles are a beautifully aromatic mushroom that can be grated on top of salad, pasta or risotto
dishes (Roden, 1990). Autumn is the best time for cooking in Piedmont as it is game season, frog
and snail season and most products are ready for harvest: grapes, truffles and wild mushrooms
(Kistioukovitch, 2009).
Protein in a Piedmontese diet mainly comes from pork, cattle and game. Since Piedmont is situated
inland fish is not a staple in their diet. Freshwater fish and trout are found in some mountain streams
with eels and frogs found in the rice fields. However, a healthy diet of saltwater fish as found in the

Descriptive Essay On Home Away From Home
Home Away From Home As soon as I opened the door, I felt as if I had just taken a fourteen hour
plane ride and landed in the heart of Italy. As my eyes immediately jetted to a mural of an Italian–
styled building, my ears listened to the noise of Italian music in the background. If I did not know
any better, I would have thought I was sitting in a tiny café in Italy. Ironically, the minuscule,
Italian–inspired restaurant had a name bigger than the restaurant itself: The Pastaria & Market.
Located at 49 East Main Street in Downtown Los Gatos, The Pastaria & Market is open daily for
dinner. Though the restaurant only has twelve tables, the Italian decor creates an atmosphere which
contributes to giving people an authentic Italian dining experience. My ethnic origins are mostly
Italian, so I am familiar with eating my Nonna's homemade Italian food; hence, I was skeptical on
how creditable The Pastaria & Market was going to be. After my dining experience, I would highly
recommend The Pastaria & Market to anyone looking for attentive service and flavorsome dishes.
The Pastaria & Market displays authentic Italian cuisine by using simple and original flavor
combinations. Not only do they make their pasta in–house daily, but they also provide fresh
ingredients to go alongside it; the authenticity of the meals made me recall heartwarming moments I
have experienced while eating Italian food. The first entrée I tried was Linguine Aglio Olio which

Italy : A Long And Rich History
Italy stands as the embodiment of unique cuisine, fashion, industry, and culture. Italy holds a long
and rich history, starting from how it became one country during ancient times. For thousands of
years, people have lived in Italy, relying on its vast amount of assets and resources. There was no
established group of settlers to arrive first, because the chief pioneers entailed many different types
of people who spoke different languages. Italy was at first preceded by several non–Italian cultures,
including Greeks. The Greeks occupied southern Italy, including areas around Sicily. This remained
a wealthy extent of land because of the tremendously fertile soil, which then caused the sprout of
new cities and civilization. These Greek cities ultimately stood taken over by Roman control. As far
as northern city–states, the Etruscans lived in areas influenced by Greek culture. The Etruscans
stayed well–known engineers, builders, and traders. Italy was always back and forth in the control of
foreign authorities, but finally landed in the power of the Roman Empire. The Roman Empire took
over at about 450 B.C., but eventually collapsed. The land that now stands as Italy was ruled by
Julius Caesar. There were many civil wars before and after Julius Caesar's death. The land was then
restored by Octavian, Caesar's son, who later passed his throne to his son Tiberius. Although ancient
Italy had been taken over by diverse commands, it still held on to its vast culture and

Exploration Of Italy : A Mediterranean Type Of Climate
Exploration of Italy
Introduction
Fate una vacanza in Italia! That means let's take a vacation to Italy, in Italian! This April me and my
family will be going on a four day trip to Italy. So first let 's start off with the basics because most
likely you are thinking to yourself where is Italy located? Italy is located in the southern part of
Europe, there is no way you can miss it on a map because it is shaped like a high heel. Generally
speaking, it takes about eight hours to fly to Italy (from USA). Most of Italy has a Mediterranean
type of climate, which has cool, rainy winters and hot, dry summers. As a result of the
Mediterranean type of climate we are going to travel to Italy August 12–15th so that in Italy it will
be nice and warm so we can enjoy outdoor activities without having to bundle up and fight the cold.
Italy is a peninsula in the Mediterranean Sea. "Much of Italy is covered by mountains" ("Geographic
Landmarks"). The Dolomite mountain lays out across northern Italy and are also a part of the
Appalachian Mountain range. The highest mountain of Italy can be found in the Appalachian
mountains. It is called the monte Bianco, or better known as Mont Blanc. Also in Italy you can
expect to see many long, deep lakes in Dillon 2 northern Italy. Infact the longest river in Italy is the

Cultural And Culture, Culture And Cultural Awareness Of Italy
Italy Cultural Awareness Culture gets defined as the shared behavior that usually exists within a
given group of people, and is known to have learned and develop with time through socialization in
the families, social groups, and schools. This group of people has to reach an agreement for that
culture to exist. Culture awareness therefore is the understanding that someone has about the
difference between themselves and other groups of people from other countries or even other
backgrounds. It could be differences regarding their behaviors, attitudes, beliefs, norms and their
values. Different people do things in a particular way; they view the world in various manners and
even react to things in a variety of ways (Whittaker, A. 2010 ). Culture awareness in Italy is the
focus of this paper.
Broadly discussed, Italian culture entails, arts, family issues, food, architecture, and music. Although
other ethnicities live in this country, it becomes known that about 96% of Italy is composed of
Italians. The country's official language is Italian, and majority speaks it as their primary language.
The Italian family became viewed as a significant value. Most dwell in extended families rather than
the nuclear family who are only composed of father, mother, and children. The families gather for
multiple occasions throughout the year, and even more for no special occasion at all except to be

Slow Food Movement: The Mission Of The Slow Food Movement
Mission Of Slow Food As fast food chains attempted to spring up across Italy, many people met this
commercialization with strong distain. The revival of local foods and eateries was supported through
the creation of the Slow Food Movement. "Slow Food emerged out of the cultures of food that
surround regional cuisines in Italy. It was established in 1986 in Bra, a small town in the Piedmont
region by a group of food writers and chefs. The immediate motivation was growing concern about
the potential impact of 'Americanised' fast food on local food cultures." This concern came with the
introduction to various McDonald's restaurants across Italy. As these chains were placed amongst
the historic landscapes, locals became angered, and were concerned that the fast food chain would
take away from the locally owned and operated small businesses and restaurants. ... Show more

As a result, "traditional eateries retain a close connection to local food production systems", leading
to the idea of the Slow Food movement developing in order to form a conservation and "general

these distinct qualities of Italian cuisine, deeply embedded and unique to the area's structure socially
and economically. These unique aspects of Italian food culture consider "environmental

gastronomic landscape." These ideals of the Slow Food Movement seek to protect the pure and

Cucina Italiano In the early history of many countries, food always plays an important part in the
development of the country and the economy as well. From starting out simple, the recipes evolve
and spread after being handed down and spoken to others. Food is what defines many cultures, and
is able to bring many people together in many cases. For example, food is what stands a major
tradition in many families, recipes being a secret between the members. This is one way that it plays
in importance in cultures. Italian culture differs from other cultures because the food plays a much
more important part. Italian cuisine has influenced many parts of their own culture, and other
cultures around the world. Food has always played a major part in three major aspects of Italian
culture: history, symbolism, and art.
The history of Italian cuisine revolves around the evolution of what people were compelled to eat
throughout the ages. Once, food was thought to be little more than macaroni or noodles in the Italian
Peninsula. Many factors are considered in the study in the history of cuisine, such as the location,
climate of the area, the cooking methods of that time, religious practices, etc.. Angelo Camillo, a
professor at Woodbury University, explains in his book, An Explorative Study of the Historical

Over 33,000 Italians migrated during July 1947 – 1950 to Sydney and Melbourne, as there was little
work available and not adequate food supplies consequently because of the war. Today there are
over 800,000 Australians having Italian descent.

Italian Cuisine & the City of Venice
Italy is a European country that is approximately the size of Arizona. ("Italy," www.cia.gov) Italy is
an amazing country. It is home to one of the oldest cultures in the western world. Italy gave birth to
the Latin language. Latin is the root tongue of romance language and other language groups. Italy is
a food capital, art capital, fashion capital, and historical capital of the world. There is some variety
in the country's landscape and there is potential for several kinds of natural disasters such as
volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, landslides, and flooding. ("Italy," www.cia.gov) Yet, it is still very
beautiful. It is very colorful. The people are vivacious and friendly. There is still evidence of the old
culture in the architecture and the art. At the same time, it is a modern country in the urban

Italian Cuisine and Spaghetti
Nicholas Wicklund

"Mhmmmmmm tastes good!" This is a quote from the movie Balls of Fury I have used many times
to describe the most delicious meal on the planet. It is not a very unique meal and almost anybody
can make it. This heavenly meal I am talking about is spaghetti and it is held on a pedestal above all
other foods. I have loved spaghetti ever since I was young, sitting at the dinner table with my fork,
twirling the noodles around and taking the largest bite ever, slurping the seemingly endless noodles
off of the plate. It was always a challenge on these nights to not make a mess with the slippery
noodles, the bouncy meatballs, and most difficult of all, the sauce. The spaghetti sauce was the ...

The American version uses meatballs, which is also frowned upon by our Italian counterparts. A
chef named Massimo Bottura, the so called leader of the angered chefs, and 450 other chefs started a
campaign to stop their cherished meal from being even more transformed (24). They believe ground
beef is the main ingredient and want to save the custom of spaghetti.
Spaghetti has a very precise way of being processed. A pasta factory in Italy shows exactly how
goods are processed into making the perfect spaghetti ingredients. 17 hours. That is how long it
takes to make the noodles, all done by machine. The buildings have clean and pure air to prevent the
pasta from taking in foreign flavors ( Hazelton 1157). Sheets of the dough are rolled, flattened, cut,
pushed through scores of teflon–lined molds and put into wire trays to dry (Hazelton 1158). It
always has to be watched and just the right amounts of ingredients have to be mixed together
because too much or too little could devastate the flavor.
The Italian way of making the noodles are better because it holds together better in cooking and will
not mush (1158). Italians use wheat flour that is higher in gluten than what Americans use, making
their noodles more durable. The noodles can come out in forms like straight or twisted, long or
short, smooth or ridged, and in different shapes like stars, tubes, animals, and angel hair. There is

Nt1310 Unit 1 Assignment
Module 1 Assignment
Growing up in a small town has the advantage of being a close–knit community, unfortunately this
also meant that exposure to foreign delicacies is not a common occurrence. As a child, I developed a
strong dislike for any foods that I viewed as abnormal, and became quite a finicky eater. Thus, my
familiarity with Italian food is somewhat limited to restaurant dishes, and recipes that friends
exuberantly claim to be a crime if not made. While being a student in Victoria, I have had the
opportunity to live in various different areas, some of which were next door to outdoor markets.
Much like the markets described by Braimbridge et al.,(2005) in The Food of Italy, the bread was
baked fresh daily, the produce fresh and locally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is where the smells of cooked tomatoes, garlic, cheese, fresh focaccia bread, and pasta can be
found in infinite bounds. Despite not having personally traveled to Italy, my connecting link to
Italian cuisine can be found through this restaurant and their pasta. As Brombert (2013) explains in
Italian Identity in the Kitchen, or Food and the Nation, Italians abroad are referred to as "macaroni–
eaters," for dried pasta, or maccheroni, particularly those from the southern regions. The experience
that one encounters in Pagliacci's is very much how I would imagine restaurants in Italy to be,
packed with tables close together to encourage the social environment that is so crucial to Italian
culture. An essential component upon entering is of course bread, an endless supply of freshly made
focaccia bread to be exact. This is in line with the Italian custom to always eat bread with a meal, for
it is very much an essential component. Similar to the history of bread, in which it was used as the
last stand against hunger, when eaten to excess this mouth–watering bread can come close to being a
meal in it of itself. The dish that I fall back on most frequently here provides me with an intimate
knowledge of the flavors of the Italian world for it involves many classic ingredients. Fresh
tomatoes soaked in red wine, mushrooms, basil, and olive combined with the linguine noodle and

Italian Food : The Most Popular Cuisines
Italian food is one of the most popular cuisines in the country. The reason behind the worldwide
popularity is because it has developed through many centuries of changes in social and political
settings (Fortina, p.398). The origin of Italian dishes date back as the 4th B.C.E, in the ancient
Roman Empire, Etruscan and ancient Greek. There were significant changes especially after the
agrarian revolution in Europe as new crops were grown. These crops included: potatoes, corn,
pepper and tomatoes. These changes brought about new recipes for Italian food. Differences of taste
and adversity in regions are some of the factors that made Italian food so popular in the United
States. Pizza and Spaghetti are the most popular Italian dishes of all time and they both originated
from Naples, a town in Italy. Italian dishes range from 'Antipasti' 'meaning before meal time, thus
appetizers to special bread or Pane, and include the common recipes of pizza, rice dishes, fish,
vegetables and many pasta dishes. Many Italian Chefs consider quality ingredients to be the most
fundamental aspect of the dishes. The preparation of the food is secondary. The chefs have many
elaborate ways to prepare each and every meal. Although the dishes were quite regional, their
influence has stretched far and wide with some variation especially in the United States. Wine and
cheese have played a major role in the preparations for the meal. However, there are many variations
in recopies for different

Persuasive Essay About French Food
"I'm craving for French food. Want to go get some?"
That's one phrase I've never had to answer simply because no one brings that up. We don't go to
French restaurants on a student budget because almost anything with the word French attached to it
is a tad bit overpriced. When I think of enjoying French food, I think of men having to wear pressed
suits and women donning their glamorous dresses and high heels, then they need to have powdered
noses and carefully coiffed hair before being served food in very large plates but with tiny portions.
It's a cuisine of the elite but for something so highly regarded it's ironic that French food isn't too
much 'known' compared to what people know of Italian food.
To be honest I was a bit overwhelmed when we started learning about French food thinking that it
would really be difficult to grasp, and the terms were so hard to pronounce, it was that one time that
I realized a little too late that hors d'oeuvres weren't even pronounced as horse devours. In short

The question is to what extent to we really know Italian cuisine? Is it the ever so present red sauce,
oregano, thyme, olive oil and heaping amounts of cheese with every serving?
This definitely doesn't even do justice to what Italian food really is like, in other parts of Italy they
don't even use the tomato sauce for their pasta dishes, just good al dente pasta with a bit of garlic
and drizzled with olive oil but it doesn't end there. They have fabulous seafood dishes, meat and not
to mention the wine. The food varies from place to place and it is not always what we're used to. Not
everything in the menu is just about Naples, where the famous pizza originated. There's so much
more to Italian cuisine that makes it what it is and it's definitely not just pizza and

Cultural Reflection Of My Culture
I come from a multicultural family, with two cultures that are very different from one another,
Cuban and German. Being exposed to such diversity I feel that I got a head start on understanding
that people's culture shapes who they are and how they think or behave. Growing up, I remember
thinking to myself the different ways in presenting a topic depending on which family member I was
speaking to, and even the conversations were different, because each culture valued something
different. And even when the values were the same, it was expressed in different ways. So, when the
mini ethnography project was assigned I started to think of all the components of my culture and

She also explained to us that the northern and southern parts of Italy are viewed differently.
Northern Italians are stereotyped to be snobby and stuck up, while the southern Italians are
stereotyped to be free spirits or mafia members, specifically in Naples and Sicily. Something that I
found interesting was that here in The United States, and as well as in Germany, when someone eats
pasta, it is considered to be good manners to twirl the pasta using a spoon, however in Italy this is
not the case. I find it interesting how people believe this is how Italian's eat their pasta and it is not.
After we ate at the Italian restaurant Penny took us to "Centro Commercial Managua" which is a

Italian Food In The 1970s
America has seen numerous waves of immigrants which brought their own culture and cuisine. With
time various cuisines became very popular nationwide and not just within the original consuming
communities. One of the most popular ethical foods in the United States is Italian food. It gained its
popularity long time ago and since lots of Italian dishes became leaders in restaurants. Due to
growing interest of general public to Italian food numerous food restaurant networks have emerged
in the United States. Moreover, only one third of so called "Italian food" is imported from Italy. This
suggests that many products are fake and many people take advantage of popularity of Italian food.
Sometimes manufacturers name their products Italian but they have nothing in common with
authentic Italian food.

Furthermore, people become more and more acquainted with the food because of press and
television. The recipes of Italian dishes were available and preparation was relatively easy. The
major difference about representation of Italian food in the 1960s and 1970s was that social status
and welfare was not targeted by popular magazines. Moreover, the ability to examine foods and
make own preparations were given an unprecedented importance. The Americans "could exercise
their competence, distinction, and good taste according to their own individual style" (Cinotto 5).
However, authenticity became the most important value of Italian food, the visitors of Italian
restaurants expected their chefs to focus on the use of authenticity of recipes, techniques for cooking
and other things. In late 1970's, this aspect became a focus for popular magazines which quickly
engaged in production of cultural

The Influence Of Food In The United States
The United States of America is a nation built upon immigrants from various parts of the world. The

though these are popular dishes to have in America it doesn't resemble the multicultural people that

Descriptive Essay On Ttto Bene

  • 1. Descriptive Essay On Ttto Bene The smooth, heart felt voice of Jersey Boy Frank Sinatra floods my ears as I enter Mario's Tutto Bene. The dim, lit dining room with hanging Tiffany Lamps and era style tables from the 1940's takes you back into an era of glamor and organized crime. The half–moon Italian leather booths that surround the outmost of the dinner room are soft and comfortable. The authentic Italian foods such as: Penne Vodka, Chicken Saltimbocca, Shrimp Scampi and Veal Parmigiana engulf your sense of smell and make your mouth water. The rich Red and White wines that are imported directly from Italy sing a symphony across your taste buds. This is New Jersey dining at its best. Mario's Tutto Bene is the very image of Italian beauty, comfort and cuisine. The walls are painted a dark wine color with deep brown woodwork adorning the walls and doorways. The long dark brown bar that stretches out before you is sculpted by hand and polished to a high gloss, reflecting your very image off of it, like a mirror. There is a sleek, shiny, black Piano in perfect opposition of the bar, set up on a small stage, enclosed by wood banisters that stand guard on either side of the stairs polished in the same deep hue of the bar. The half–moon Italian leather booths surround the outermost area of the dining hall, leaving room for tables, large enough to accommodate 8 – 10 people in the middle. If someone prefers to enjoy their meal outside, the hostess walks them through double glass doors out onto the veranda. Hand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The twentieth century redefined the history of mankind and heralded a new age, and two of perhaps the world's most polarizing questions emerged from it: Should we have dropped the bomb? Does pineapple belong on pizza? The answer to the former question remains ambiguous, but the answer to the latter is a clear, definitive, resonating no. Concocted in 1962 by Sam Panopoulos, the combination of pineapple and pizza is an abomination in itself. Pineapple has a place in the world, but where it certainly doesn't belong is on a pizza. The basic ingredients found in pizza are glutenous wheat dough, olive oil, tomatoes, and cheese, and typical toppings include olives, cured meats and mushrooms. These foods all share ... One may argue that tomatoes also come from the New World, but tomatoes have become so particular to and ubiquitous in Italy, they have come to symbolize the cuisine of this very nation. Italian cuisine cannot be Italian cuisine without tomatoes, whereas pineapples belong in the tropics, not on an Italian dish. Pineapple dishes include pina colada, pineapple chutney, and pineapple teriyaki, which are all exotic, tropical dishes. Something as Italian and Old World as pizza does not belong near pineapples––these two worlds do not mix. Just take a look at what happened when Christopher Columbus, an Old World explorer, arrived in the tropics––he brought a host of lethal diseases to the people of the New World and pillaged their villages. • 24. Food in Italy Introduction There is a saying that states 'one either lives to eat or eats to live' and Italy as a country is ruled by the former. Italy is a culture that is rich and saturated in their traditions of cooking. They take pride in their food and live by the credo that food is only used if it is fresh, local and in season. There has been much debate on what defines Italian food and through research one can see that Italian food is not typical of a specific dish, rather that each region offers a new variance of depth and originality that is not common to the Americanized beliefs of solely pasta and pizza. Yes one could lump Italian food into categories such as breads, pasta, olive oil, cured meats and cheese but each of these foods is made in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One way Piedmontese love to eat their vegetables is with a bagna caurda, one of their most authentic dishes. In a terracotta pot, garlic and anchovies are simmered with olive oil to form a thick sauce, then raw seasonal vegetables and breads are dipped into the sauce and eaten. Although this is one of Piedmont prized dishes, the climate is not conducive to grow olive trees and therefore to produce olive oil. However, Piedmont has a standing relationship with neighbouring region Liguria and trades wine for olive oil (Costanzia, 2009). The food richest in tradition, uniqueness and specialty to Piedmont is the white truffle. Each year a truffle festival is held on the first Sunday of October bringing in thousands of people from all over the world to hunt for truffles and celebrate the harvest. Truffles are a beautifully aromatic mushroom that can be grated on top of salad, pasta or risotto dishes (Roden, 1990). Autumn is the best time for cooking in Piedmont as it is game season, frog and snail season and most products are ready for harvest: grapes, truffles and wild mushrooms (Kistioukovitch, 2009). Protein in a Piedmontese diet mainly comes from pork, cattle and game. Since Piedmont is situated inland fish is not a staple in their diet. Freshwater fish and trout are found in some mountain streams with eels and frogs found in the rice fields. However, a healthy diet of saltwater fish as found in the south of Sicily ... • 26. Descriptive Essay On Home Away From Home Home Away From Home As soon as I opened the door, I felt as if I had just taken a fourteen hour plane ride and landed in the heart of Italy. As my eyes immediately jetted to a mural of an Italian– styled building, my ears listened to the noise of Italian music in the background. If I did not know any better, I would have thought I was sitting in a tiny café in Italy. Ironically, the minuscule, Italian–inspired restaurant had a name bigger than the restaurant itself: The Pastaria & Market. Located at 49 East Main Street in Downtown Los Gatos, The Pastaria & Market is open daily for dinner. Though the restaurant only has twelve tables, the Italian decor creates an atmosphere which contributes to giving people an authentic Italian dining experience. My ethnic origins are mostly Italian, so I am familiar with eating my Nonna's homemade Italian food; hence, I was skeptical on how creditable The Pastaria & Market was going to be. After my dining experience, I would highly recommend The Pastaria & Market to anyone looking for attentive service and flavorsome dishes. The Pastaria & Market displays authentic Italian cuisine by using simple and original flavor combinations. Not only do they make their pasta in–house daily, but they also provide fresh ingredients to go alongside it; the authenticity of the meals made me recall heartwarming moments I have experienced while eating Italian food. The first entrée I tried was Linguine Aglio Olio which featured garlic and crushed red ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Italy : A Long And Rich History Italy stands as the embodiment of unique cuisine, fashion, industry, and culture. Italy holds a long and rich history, starting from how it became one country during ancient times. For thousands of years, people have lived in Italy, relying on its vast amount of assets and resources. There was no established group of settlers to arrive first, because the chief pioneers entailed many different types of people who spoke different languages. Italy was at first preceded by several non–Italian cultures, including Greeks. The Greeks occupied southern Italy, including areas around Sicily. This remained a wealthy extent of land because of the tremendously fertile soil, which then caused the sprout of new cities and civilization. These Greek cities ultimately stood taken over by Roman control. As far as northern city–states, the Etruscans lived in areas influenced by Greek culture. The Etruscans stayed well–known engineers, builders, and traders. Italy was always back and forth in the control of foreign authorities, but finally landed in the power of the Roman Empire. The Roman Empire took over at about 450 B.C., but eventually collapsed. The land that now stands as Italy was ruled by Julius Caesar. There were many civil wars before and after Julius Caesar's death. The land was then restored by Octavian, Caesar's son, who later passed his throne to his son Tiberius. Although ancient Italy had been taken over by diverse commands, it still held on to its vast culture and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cultural And Culture, Culture And Cultural Awareness Of Italy Italy Cultural Awareness Culture gets defined as the shared behavior that usually exists within a given group of people, and is known to have learned and develop with time through socialization in the families, social groups, and schools. This group of people has to reach an agreement for that culture to exist. Culture awareness therefore is the understanding that someone has about the difference between themselves and other groups of people from other countries or even other backgrounds. It could be differences regarding their behaviors, attitudes, beliefs, norms and their values. Different people do things in a particular way; they view the world in various manners and even react to things in a variety of ways (Whittaker, A. 2010 ). Culture awareness in Italy is the focus of this paper. Broadly discussed, Italian culture entails, arts, family issues, food, architecture, and music. Although other ethnicities live in this country, it becomes known that about 96% of Italy is composed of Italians. The country's official language is Italian, and majority speaks it as their primary language. The Italian family became viewed as a significant value. Most dwell in extended families rather than the nuclear family who are only composed of father, mother, and children. Slow Food Movement: The Mission Of The Slow Food Movement Mission Of Slow Food As fast food chains attempted to spring up across Italy, many people met this commercialization with strong distain. The revival of local foods and eateries was supported through the creation of the Slow Food Movement. "Slow Food emerged out of the cultures of food that surround regional cuisines in Italy. It was established in 1986 in Bra, a small town in the Piedmont region by a group of food writers and chefs. The immediate motivation was growing concern about the potential impact of 'Americanised' fast food on local food cultures." The Culture Of The Italian Cuisine Ethan Smith Professor Piazza Italian 21 9 December 2016 Cucina Italiano In the early history of many countries, food always plays an important part in the development of the country and the economy as well. From starting out simple, the recipes evolve and spread after being handed down and spoken to others. Food is what defines many cultures, and is able to bring many people together in many cases. For example, food is what stands a major tradition in many families, recipes being a secret between the members. This is one way that it plays in importance in cultures. Italian culture differs from other cultures because the food plays a much more important part. Italian cuisine has influenced many parts of their own culture, and other cultures around the world. Food has always played a major part in three major aspects of Italian culture: history, symbolism, and art. The history of Italian cuisine revolves around the evolution of what people were compelled to eat throughout the ages. Once, food was thought to be little more than macaroni or noodles in the Italian Peninsula. Many factors are considered in the study in the history of cuisine, such as the location, climate of the area, the cooking methods of that time, religious practices, etc.. This is a quote from the movie Balls of Fury I have used many times to describe the most delicious meal on the planet. It is not a very unique meal and almost anybody can make it. I have loved spaghetti ever since I was young, sitting at the dinner table with my fork, twirling the noodles around and taking the largest bite ever, slurping the seemingly endless noodles off of the plate. The experience that one encounters in Pagliacci's is very much how I would imagine restaurants in Italy to be, packed with tables close together to encourage the social environment that is so crucial to Italian culture. An essential component upon entering is of course bread, an endless supply of freshly made focaccia bread to be exact. This is in line with the Italian custom to always eat bread with a meal, for it is very much an essential component. Similar to the history of bread, in which it was used as the last stand against hunger, when eaten to excess this mouth–watering bread can come close to being a meal in it of itself. • 55. Italian Food : The Most Popular Cuisines Italian food is one of the most popular cuisines in the country. The reason behind the worldwide popularity is because it has developed through many centuries of changes in social and political settings (Fortina, p.398). The origin of Italian dishes date back as the 4th B.C.E, in the ancient Roman Empire, Etruscan and ancient Greek. There were significant changes especially after the agrarian revolution in Europe as new crops were grown. These crops included: potatoes, corn, pepper and tomatoes. These changes brought about new recipes for Italian food. Differences of taste and adversity in regions are some of the factors that made Italian food so popular in the United States. Pizza and Spaghetti are the most popular Italian dishes of all time and they both originated from Naples, a town in Italy. Italian dishes range from 'Antipasti' 'meaning before meal time, thus appetizers to special bread or Pane, and include the common recipes of pizza, rice dishes, fish, vegetables and many pasta dishes. Many Italian Chefs consider quality ingredients to be the most fundamental aspect of the dishes. The preparation of the food is secondary. The chefs have many elaborate ways to prepare each and every meal. Although the dishes were quite regional, their influence has stretched far and wide with some variation especially in the United States. Wine and cheese have played a major role in the preparations for the meal. However, there are many variations in recopies for different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
