The Different Types of Vampires Throughout History
Iconic vampires in pop culture include Dracula, Angel, and Edward Cullen, but the lore can be
traced back even further than the earliest thought of each of these icons. Doctor Guiley, a
paranormal enthusiast, has researched countless tales of vampires, and has been able to divide her
research into five different generalized areas. Doctor Murgatroyd, a professor of humanities at
McMaster University, has studied references to vampires and other supernatural creatures
throughout the literary history of our world. Doctor Jason Dittmer, a professor of Geology and
Geography at Georgia Southern University, speculated on why Dracula was centered in
Transylvania, and how it represented the mindset of the world at that point in time.

A character named Neoptolemus sacrifices another character to the ghost of Achilles. In a different
play by Euripides, Death drinks the blood left as a sacrifice for him at the altar. These are some of
the earliest recorded literature about vampires.
One more commonly known creature with habits akin to a vampire is the furies of Greek mythology.
They were believed to drink the blood of sinners to weaken them. The furies would then drag their
victims to the underworld for their due punishment. Keres are another myth similar to vampires;
when a warrior fell in battle, they were said to drag off his body to drink his blood and sustain their
life–force.
An Empusa is one of the closest and earliest accounts of vampires in literature. They were
considered similar to Lamias in how the cultures feared them. An Empusa would trick an
unsuspecting man into falling in love with her. She would produce an illusion of finery about her so
that the man would eat and drink and fill himself up on his desires. Then, after they were married,
she would have sex with him and drink his blood, filling her only two true desires. She was
intelligent, and used this intelligence to get what she really wanted.
The last early literature being that Murgatroyd pointed out was similar to a vampire and vampiric
legends was a strix. A strix was supposedly an unclassified type of screech–owl who feasted on
human blood. Nobody would be able to see them coming as they

My Creative Portfolio: What Has Influenced My Writing
For my creative portfolio I developed a short story, two poems, and converted a long standing idea
into a partial script. During the analysis of these pieces I will discuss how my writing have improved
over the course and how that has influenced my work, as well as how I have responded to feedback
from peers and my tutor. Additionally, I will discuss what literary techniques were adopted and why.
Firstly, my writing has undergone a significant change over the past few months. For example, the
way I develop my ideas, plot a story, and build a scene have improved due to class activities and as a
result of time constraints. Previous to studying the Craft of Writing, I improved my writing by
planning and creating articles for a personal blog. And, although it drastically aided my ... Show

However, due to feedback, there were some considerable changes that occurred. For one, as per the
suggestion from my tutor, I discussed the relationship between the main protagonist and her wife
more by including a flashback scene from the night that the main protagonist was taken and having
her wife feature in the ending. Another piece of feedback mentioned that it was not originally clear
that the central character was gay, so the additional flashback and ending scene made this more
clear. Moreover, feedback from the tutor signalled that the original ending – one that I had written
due to the fear of going over the word count – was too quick and prevented reader satisfaction. As a
result, I included the ending I originally planned, where the main character leaves her prison and
sees her wife again. However, as I wished to explore creating an emotionally impactful ending, the
central character did not achieve her intended goal. Although, I recently received feedback from a
friend regarding the new conclusion, stating that it is open for interpretation, "did she really

Is It Not Always A Good Idea? Essay
1.Why is it not always a good idea to describe a population by its average size? In other words, how
do any of the individual simulations differ from the average of all simulations, and why might this
difference be important to realise?
It may not be a good idea to describe a population by its average (blue line on trajectory summery),
as the model takes into account the standard deviation (indicated by upper and lower error bar
thresholds). This standard deviation displays the equal probability that a population will reach these
upper and lower abundances over the course of the population model. It is important to realise this
difference as over the course of a population model (25 years), the standard deviation error
thresholds may allow the population to become extinct or it may allow it to explode to excessive
numbers which is a huge population range between upper and lower figures. Each time a model is
simulated, the average abundances will be different but will remain within the standard deviation
outliers.

Using the criteria on page 38 for classifying a population as critical, endangered or vulnerable,
should the spotted owl be considered critically endangered? Why or why not?
The northern spotted owl should be considered critically endangered based on Mace and Lande

extinction over five years. As the trajectory summary

Evolution, a controversial topic within religions but in terms of the scientific world there is still
confusion about the facts of evolution .Two main theories ,one given by Jean Baptise Lamarck and
the other given but Charles Darwin ,but who was factually correct ? This essay will look at both
theories and determine the one most likely to be correct. Both Darwin and Lamarck were reputable
scientists but did they have the facts to back it up ? In the given data sheets out of options A and B
Scenario A belongs to Lamarck and Option B belongs to Darwin.
This essay will show how Darwin's theory is continuously backed up with fact and compare it to

This theory is being proved over generations .Over time scientist have studied animals to try and
prove Lamark's theory to be accurate, some scientists say that the main example that proves his
theory to be accurate is the moth, the pepper moth . Before the industrial revolution these moths
were a pale color and usually had black dots splattered thought there coat ,when the polluted air
from the factories was causing soot to be spread across the trees in turn the trees being black with
soot .As a result of this the moths were no longer able to camouflage against the black trees ,this led
the lighter colored moths to be eaten by the birds hence Survival of the fittest .And the black/darker
colored pepper moths were able to camouflage thus they survived .Although there was not many of
these moths ,they survived and reproduced and passed on the dominant gene to their offspring ,as a
result of this the black pepper moths survived and thrived in their surroundings causing pepper
moths to be black in color. Another example of this is the Tawny Owls (Strix aluco),these owls are
located in Finland and come in two different colors brown and less brown the coloring of the owl is
not dependent of their gender, age or weight, .It depend on the amount of pigmentation in their

Computer Case Study
I recently began to venture into computer gaming and in seeing the pros and cons of building your
own system versus buying a prebuilt, decided that I was going to build my own computer. With no
sound foundation in this new venture I decided that I was going to learn as much as I could about
each component before making such a big investment and quite possibly, immediately breaking it.
After looking at a few different pieces of equipment, I found myself looking at the GPU (Graphics
Processing Unit). One of the first articles I read was a gaming enthusiast that was explaining how
people who purchased the top of the line GPU a few years ago for an outrageous price, were being
outperformed by a newer GPU for a much lower price. This sparked my ... Show more content on

Both in cost of product, stock prices and even the supply as well. Over the last few years, computer
enthusiast saw a dramatic shift in prices for GPUs. The biggest spike in price comes from
cryptocurrency mining. At the height of the cryptocurrency mining craze, GPU cards were being
sold for up to triple what they were being sold just weeks prior. A great example of this was the Asus
ROG Strix RX 580 which before June of 2017, cost about around the $300 price tag. On June 6th,
2017 it hit its highest price and topped at an astonishing $849.99. This was because of the massive
demand for graphics cards and this caused a shortage that has just recently started to relax as more
graphics cards can be found on the market for more reasonable prices. The equilibrium was
completely askew with the extreme demand with not enough supply. Now that cryptocurrencies
have started to settle with not as many mass purchases, we see prices across the board coming down.
With more and more interest in A.I, the GPU finds itself at the center of its progress. GPUs are
taking over the process that CPU's once held as the computation powerhouse for A.I as it is able to
offer more cores to enable faster learning in certain areas of the A.I field. Since neither of these
seem to be going away, making the logical leap that GPU's will be around and will be constantly
advancing with the surrounding technology, seems like a safe bet. As mentioned before, GPUs will
not be going anywhere any time

Vampires in Myth and History Essay
Vampires in Myth and History
Vampire myths go back thousands of years and occur in almost every culture around the world.
Their variety is almost endless; from red eyed monsters with green or pink hair in China to the
Greek Lamia which has the upper body of a woman and the lower body of a winged serpent; from
vampire foxes in Japan to a head with trailing entrails known as the Penanggalang in Malaysia.
However, the vampires we are familiar with today, although mutated by fiction and film, are largely
based on Eastern European myths. The vampire myths of Europe originated in the Far East, and
were transported from places like China, Tibet and India with the trade caravans along the silk route

Prior to 8th century AD they migrated north and west to where they are now.
Christianization began almost as soon as they arrived in their new homelands. But through the 9th
and 10th centuries the Eastern Orthodox Church and the western Roman Church were struggling
with each other for supremacy. They formally broke in 1054 AD, with the Bulgarians, Russians, and
Serbians staying Orthodox, while the Poles, Czechs, and Croatians went Roman. This split caused a
big difference in the development of vampire lore – the Roman church believed incorrupt bodies
were saints, while the Orthodox church believed they were vampires.
The origin of Slavic vampire myths developed during 9th C as a result of conflict between pre–
Christian paganism and Christianity. Christianity won out with the vampires and other pagan beliefs
surviving in folklore.
Causes of vampirism included: being born with a caul, teeth, or tail, being conceived on certain
days, irregular death, excommunication, improper burial rituals etc. Preventative measures included:
placing a crucifix in the coffin, or blocks under the chin to prevent the body from eating the shroud,
nailing clothes to coffin walls for the same reason, placing millet or poppy seeds in the grave
because vampires had a fascination with counting, or piercing the body with thorns or

California Spotted Owl
Introduction
The California Spotted Owl (Strix occidentalis occidentalis) is a subspecies of the Spotted Owl.
They are found in northwestern California, western Oregon, western Washington, and southwestern
British Columbia. They live in old growth forests around 200 years old, preferring Douglas–fir and
high canopy areas. They are described as medium sized, brown owls with white spots. The
California Spotted Owl has a height of about 1.5 feet and a wing span of around 4 feet. The
California Spotted Owl is a nocturnal bird whose diet consists of rodents, reptiles, invertebrates and
birds. The lifespan of the California Spotted Owl is around ten years. They mate for life and require
a vast amount of territory (National Wildlife Federation, 2015).

found there were multiple threats hindering the California Spotted Owl population. These threats
include habitat lost to past and current timber harvesting, loss of habitat due to fire and competition
with the Barred Owl (Courtney et al. 2004). Once again in 2011 a five year scientific evaluation was
performed for the classification of the California Spotted Owl. The evaluation conducted by Glenn

recommendations made by the review include population stabilization, adequate habitat and
reducing threats for the future. In August of 2015 a petition was filed by the Sierra Forest Legacy in
hopes of classifying the California Spotted Owl as an endangered species instead of a threatened
species. As a result of the petition, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is conducting a 12 month

Roman Origin Of Superstition
. The word superstition is of Roman origin. The Romans called it superstitio, which may have been
connected in some way to the Greek deisisaimonia (literally, the excessive fear of spiritual powers
or demons). In addition to deities, ancient people believed in lesser spirituals. The Greeks generally
referred to the lesser spirituals as daimones, and for Romans, daemones. Early Christian authorities
that wrote in Greek and Latin, decided to call these beings demons. Demons were fallen angels and
inherently evil. Demons assaulted humanity under the command of their prince, Satan. The noun
form of superstitio was first used in the first century B.C. appearing in the work of Cicero (the
adjective form can be found even earlier on). The term superstitio

Each PC will also require an install of Windows 10, which will be $139 for each PC, bringing the
cost to $414 for software, since 3ds Max and UE4 are already owned by members of the company.
For networking, a 100m roll of cat6 UTP cabling for $37.29 will be sufficient for Critical Mass'

Biological Basis Of Behavior : The Great Grey Owls ( Strix...
Biological Basis of Behaviour MR2204 J Mulvany Sensory Systems Georgina Meek 7th November
2014 Introduction Great Grey Owls (Strix nebulosa), use a wide variety of different environmental
factors when hunting a lemming (Lemmus sp.) when it is hidden beneath the snow. The different
sensory systems which the owl possesses are particularly adjusted in order for the owl to most
suitably use them to the best of its ability when hunting. The various sensory systems refer to the
way in which the nervous system receives information from the external environment
(exterocepton), internal environment (interoception, and the position and movement of the bod of
the animal (proprioception). Once the body is given this sensory information, it is used to generate
what the animal's next move will be. Animals need these sensory systems in order to have an
understanding of what is going on within their body and what is happening in the surrounding
environment, Stevens (2013). All animals have adapted in different ways, with different body parts
which are attuned to that animal's habitat. These body parts which are sensitive to different stimuli
act as a filter which detect and respond to stimuli, and ignore others. These body receptors interpret
and convert the type of energy, whether it is light, sound, or smell, and turn it into an electrical
signal to be interpreted by the central nervous system. Each animal's physical make up is attuned to
provide the greatest survival

Spotted Owl, Flying Squirrel, Truffle Symbiosis
Throughout the world there are many animals, plants, fungi and numerous other living organisms
that are influenced by the overall condition or adaptations of other organisms. Whether it is a
symbiotic relationship or a predator/prey relationship there are many ways in which animals and
other living organisms operate and live; both dependent on others and their own adaptations. The
point is that there are many relationships that provide a basis and means for the survival of a variety
of different species around the world. This relationship is very apparent in the scientific findings
regarding northern spotted owls (Strix Occidentalis), flying squirrels (Glaucomys Sabrinus), and

Unlike many other rodents the flying squirrel does not hibernate. Instead they group together during
the winter and cold month's to maintain warmth. Northern flying squirrels usually communicate
with a soft low chirp but also cluck just like other squirrels when distressed. These squirrels also use
scent and touch to communicate with one another; utilizing their excellent senses of hearing, smell,
vision, and touch to correspond with the signals they emanate. "A major food source for the
squirrels are mycorrhizal fungi (truffles) of many different species, though they also eat lichens,
mushrooms, all mast–crop nuts, tree sap, insects, carrion, bird eggs and nestlings, buds and flowers.
The squirrels are special in that they can find truffles by olfaction, which is the use of smell. They
also seem to use clues such as the presence of wood debris, indicating a decaying log, and spatial
memory of locations where truffles were found in the past. The northern flying squirrel is also
known to stash food for when food supplies are lower such as in the winter. These caches can be in
cavities in trees, as well as in the squirrels' nest, or even within the ground. Lichens and seeds are
the commonly stored items" (9). Yet in this relationship the most important functions of this squirrel

Europe 's Inner Demons By Norman Cohn
Europe's Inner Demons In Norman Cohn's book, Europe's Inner Demons, his ultimate goal is to
explain the development of anti–human conspiracies. He discusses how these "fantasies" were
gradually tied to Christians and eventually how they influenced the European witch–hunts. It can be
difficult to decipher his exact thesis as his preface itself seems to function as one large thesis.
However, his thesis overall seems to be that "the great witch–hunt became possible when these
practices and experiences were interpreted in terms of the traditional stereotype of the clandestine,
systematically anti–human society." He proves his thesis by discussing how the tradition began and
was tied to early Christians and then discussing its transition and use by later Christians to demonize
people and practices they feared or did not understand. He shows how this tradition's precedence in
history was what allowed for it to be used to such great effect during Europe's witch hunts. His
beginning chapters do not seem to have much connection to the witch hunts, at first glance. In these,
he is setting up the basis for this tradition of labelling groups as anti–human and illustrating how it
set its precedent for use. According to Cohn's research, much of our knowledge of its early roots
comes from literature of the time that illustrates its use on early Christians before Christianity was
officially recognized. Similar rumors happened to the Jews earlier without much success, however it

The Role Of The Witches In The 17th Century
This essay will discuss witchcraft and whether it was truly a women's crime by looking at the role of
women in society during the 15th, 16th and 17th century and at the socio–economic situation of the
time to see if this influenced why people so readily hunted members of their own community. This
essay will also discuss how the Reformation affected the way women were viewed and if this had an
impact on why women were seemingly targeted during this period. We will then look at how
witches served a social function regarding women, in the sense that women often chose the role of
the witch as a means of creating a social identity. And how stories of witches were used to threaten
children into good behaviour and conformity.

There were occasional outbreaks of mass accusations, as in the activities of Matthew Hopkins, self–
styled "Witchfinder–General", in Essex in 1645. He accused 35 women of being witches, of whom
19 were executed and 9 died in gaol. However, the full picture is nothing like so dramatic. Cases of
witchcraft cropped up occasionally and most of the accused were found not guilty, or not executed
even if found guilty. About 400 people were actually executed for witchcraft in England.
To be a witch was not in itself a crime; what was a crime was to use these powers of witchcraft to
cause harm to other people, their families or livelihood. That is why court records list illnesses or
deaths of people or animals, supposedly from a curse put on them by a witch. The courts also took
great care to make sure the evidence proved the case. It was believed that once a witch had got
involved with the devil, his "familiar", in the form of an animal, lived with her and sucked from her
body. The accused women's bodies were therefore examined to search for the extra nipple.
In conclusion, witchcraft was not always exclusively a women's crime in fact all the laws regarding
witchcraft tended to use gender neutral language when describing a witch

According to Bachynski and Harris (2002), Tyto alba, commonly referred to as the Barn Owl, has 35
recognized subspecies worldwide. These individuals are differentiated by their body size, coloration,
and geographic location. The subspecies that resides in North America is known as Tyto alba
pratincola. (Bachynski & Harris, 2002).
The barn owl has been referred to by many other common names, including: Lesser Masked–Owl,
Monkey–Faced Owl, Cave Owl, Death Owl, Delicate Owl, Demon Owl, Ghost Owl, Golden Owl,
Hissing Owl, Night Owl, Screech ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They can be found near grasslands, open fields, and woodlands. More recently, they have moved
closer to rural and urban areas where prey is more abundant. (Sieders, 2009). Wild Feeding Habits
The Tyto species is unique with their heart–shaped facial disc that reflects sounds waves to the inner
ear. This ability allows the nocturnal predator to hunt in complete darkness. These attacks also come
as a surprise to their prey, as they are able to perform silent flight with their fringed wing design.
(Sieders, 2009).
These owls possess a higher metabolic rate, eating more than most other owls. Their diet changes
with prey availability rather than a change of season like some animals. In Australia, Sieders (2009)
reports that their most common prey is the introduced long–haired rat and the house mouse.
Australia has had an infestation problem with these prey species. They have also been recorded
eating small mammals, bats, baby rabbits, caterpillars, frogs, lizards, gophers, shrews, and voles.
Smaller prey items are swallowed whole while the larger items can be torn into smaller pieces
before consumption. (Sieders,

The furies would then drag their
victims to the underworld for their due punishment. Keres are another myth similar to vampires;
when a warrior fell in battle, they were said to drag off his body to drink his blood and sustain their

  • 3. My Creative Portfolio: What Has Influenced My Writing For my creative portfolio I developed a short story, two poems, and converted a long standing idea into a partial script. During the analysis of these pieces I will discuss how my writing have improved over the course and how that has influenced my work, as well as how I have responded to feedback from peers and my tutor. Additionally, I will discuss what literary techniques were adopted and why. Firstly, my writing has undergone a significant change over the past few months. For example, the way I develop my ideas, plot a story, and build a scene have improved due to class activities and as a result of time constraints. Previous to studying the Craft of Writing, I improved my writing by planning and creating articles for a personal blog. And, although it drastically aided my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, due to feedback, there were some considerable changes that occurred. For one, as per the suggestion from my tutor, I discussed the relationship between the main protagonist and her wife more by including a flashback scene from the night that the main protagonist was taken and having her wife feature in the ending. Another piece of feedback mentioned that it was not originally clear that the central character was gay, so the additional flashback and ending scene made this more clear. Moreover, feedback from the tutor signalled that the original ending – one that I had written due to the fear of going over the word count – was too quick and prevented reader satisfaction. As a result, I included the ending I originally planned, where the main character leaves her prison and sees her wife again. However, as I wished to explore creating an emotionally impactful ending, the central character did not achieve her intended goal. Although, I recently received feedback from a friend regarding the new conclusion, stating that it is open for interpretation, "did she really ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Is It Not Always A Good Idea? Essay 1.Why is it not always a good idea to describe a population by its average size? In other words, how do any of the individual simulations differ from the average of all simulations, and why might this difference be important to realise? It may not be a good idea to describe a population by its average (blue line on trajectory summery), as the model takes into account the standard deviation (indicated by upper and lower error bar thresholds). This standard deviation displays the equal probability that a population will reach these upper and lower abundances over the course of the population model. It is important to realise this difference as over the course of a population model (25 years), the standard deviation error thresholds may allow the population to become extinct or it may allow it to explode to excessive numbers which is a huge population range between upper and lower figures. Each time a model is simulated, the average abundances will be different but will remain within the standard deviation outliers. Brook Trout Trajectory Summary Exercise B Using the criteria on page 38 for classifying a population as critical, endangered or vulnerable, should the spotted owl be considered critically endangered? Why or why not? The northern spotted owl should be considered critically endangered based on Mace and Lande (1991) which categorise critically endangered as a species having a 50% or greater probability of extinction over five years. As the trajectory summary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Computer Case Study I recently began to venture into computer gaming and in seeing the pros and cons of building your own system versus buying a prebuilt, decided that I was going to build my own computer. With no sound foundation in this new venture I decided that I was going to learn as much as I could about each component before making such a big investment and quite possibly, immediately breaking it. After looking at a few different pieces of equipment, I found myself looking at the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit). One of the first articles I read was a gaming enthusiast that was explaining how people who purchased the top of the line GPU a few years ago for an outrageous price, were being outperformed by a newer GPU for a much lower price. This sparked my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both in cost of product, stock prices and even the supply as well. Over the last few years, computer enthusiast saw a dramatic shift in prices for GPUs. The biggest spike in price comes from cryptocurrency mining. At the height of the cryptocurrency mining craze, GPU cards were being sold for up to triple what they were being sold just weeks prior. A great example of this was the Asus ROG Strix RX 580 which before June of 2017, cost about around the $300 price tag. On June 6th, 2017 it hit its highest price and topped at an astonishing $849.99. This was because of the massive demand for graphics cards and this caused a shortage that has just recently started to relax as more graphics cards can be found on the market for more reasonable prices. The equilibrium was completely askew with the extreme demand with not enough supply. Now that cryptocurrencies have started to settle with not as many mass purchases, we see prices across the board coming down. With more and more interest in A.I, the GPU finds itself at the center of its progress. GPUs are taking over the process that CPU's once held as the computation powerhouse for A.I as it is able to offer more cores to enable faster learning in certain areas of the A.I field. Since neither of these seem to be going away, making the logical leap that GPU's will be around and will be constantly advancing with the surrounding technology, seems like a safe bet. Their variety is almost endless; from red eyed monsters with green or pink hair in China to the Greek Lamia which has the upper body of a woman and the lower body of a winged serpent; from vampire foxes in Japan to a head with trailing entrails known as the Penanggalang in Malaysia. However, the vampires we are familiar with today, although mutated by fiction and film, are largely based on Eastern European myths. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prior to 8th century AD they migrated north and west to where they are now. Christianization began almost as soon as they arrived in their new homelands. But through the 9th and 10th centuries the Eastern Orthodox Church and the western Roman Church were struggling with each other for supremacy. They formally broke in 1054 AD, with the Bulgarians, Russians, and Serbians staying Orthodox, while the Poles, Czechs, and Croatians went Roman. This split caused a big difference in the development of vampire lore – the Roman church believed incorrupt bodies were saints, while the Orthodox church believed they were vampires. The origin of Slavic vampire myths developed during 9th C as a result of conflict between pre– Christian paganism and Christianity. Christianity won out with the vampires and other pagan beliefs surviving in folklore. Causes of vampirism included: being born with a caul, teeth, or tail, being conceived on certain days, irregular death, excommunication, improper burial rituals etc. Preventative measures included: placing a crucifix in the coffin, or blocks under the chin to prevent the body from eating the shroud, nailing clothes to coffin walls for the same reason, placing millet or poppy seeds in the grave because vampires had a fascination with counting, or piercing the body with thorns or ... The Romans called it superstitio, which may have been connected in some way to the Greek deisisaimonia (literally, the excessive fear of spiritual powers or demons). In addition to deities, ancient people believed in lesser spirituals. The Greeks generally referred to the lesser spirituals as daimones, and for Romans, daemones. Early Christian authorities that wrote in Greek and Latin, decided to call these beings demons. Demons were fallen angels and inherently evil. Demons assaulted humanity under the command of their prince, Satan. Biological Basis of Behaviour MR2204 J Mulvany Sensory Systems Georgina Meek 7th November 2014 Introduction Great Grey Owls (Strix nebulosa), use a wide variety of different environmental factors when hunting a lemming (Lemmus sp.) when it is hidden beneath the snow. The different sensory systems which the owl possesses are particularly adjusted in order for the owl to most suitably use them to the best of its ability when hunting. The various sensory systems refer to the way in which the nervous system receives information from the external environment (exterocepton), internal environment (interoception, and the position and movement of the bod of the animal (proprioception). Once the body is given this sensory information, it is used to generate what the animal's next move will be. Animals need these sensory systems in order to have an understanding of what is going on within their body and what is happening in the surrounding environment, Stevens (2013). All animals have adapted in different ways, with different body parts which are attuned to that animal's habitat. These body parts which are sensitive to different stimuli act as a filter which detect and respond to stimuli, and ignore others. These body receptors interpret and convert the type of energy, whether it is light, sound, or smell, and turn it into an electrical signal to be interpreted by the central nervous system. Each animal's physical make up is attuned to provide the greatest survival ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Northern flying squirrels usually communicate with a soft low chirp but also cluck just like other squirrels when distressed. "A major food source for the squirrels are mycorrhizal fungi (truffles) of many different species, though they also eat lichens, mushrooms, all mast–crop nuts, tree sap, insects, carrion, bird eggs and nestlings, buds and flowers. The squirrels are special in that they can find truffles by olfaction, which is the use of smell. These caches can be in cavities in trees, as well as in the squirrels' nest, or even within the ground. Lichens and seeds are the commonly stored items" (9). He discusses how these "fantasies" were gradually tied to Christians and eventually how they influenced the European witch–hunts. It can be difficult to decipher his exact thesis as his preface itself seems to function as one large thesis. However, his thesis overall seems to be that "the great witch–hunt became possible when these practices and experiences were interpreted in terms of the traditional stereotype of the clandestine, systematically anti–human society." He proves his thesis by discussing how the tradition began and was tied to early Christians and then discussing its transition and use by later Christians to demonize people and practices they feared or did not understand. He shows how this tradition's precedence in history was what allowed for it to be used to such great effect during Europe's witch hunts. His beginning chapters do not seem to have much connection to the witch hunts, at first glance. In these, he is setting up the basis for this tradition of labelling groups as anti–human and illustrating how it set its precedent for use. According to Cohn's research, much of our knowledge of its early roots comes from literature of the time that illustrates its use on early Christians before Christianity was officially recognized. This essay will also discuss how the Reformation affected the way women were viewed and if this had an impact on why women were seemingly targeted during this period. There were occasional outbreaks of mass accusations, as in the activities of Matthew Hopkins, self– styled "Witchfinder–General", in Essex in 1645. He accused 35 women of being witches, of whom 19 were executed and 9 died in gaol. However, the full picture is nothing like so dramatic. Cases of witchcraft cropped up occasionally and most of the accused were found not guilty, or not executed even if found guilty. About 400 people were actually executed for witchcraft in England. To be a witch was not in itself a crime; what was a crime was to use these powers of witchcraft to cause harm to other people, their families or livelihood. That is why court records list illnesses or deaths of people or animals, supposedly from a curse put on them by a witch. The courts also took great care to make sure the evidence proved the case. It was believed that once a witch had got involved with the devil, his "familiar", in the form of an animal, lived with her and sucked from her body. The accused women's bodies were therefore examined to search for the extra nipple. In conclusion, witchcraft was not always exclusively a women's crime in fact all the laws regarding witchcraft tended to use gender neutral language when describing a witch ...
