• NCERT is an autonomous organization set up in 1961 by government of
India .
• The main work of NCERT is to assist and advice the central and state
government on qualitative improvement in school education
• Though it is an autonomous institution , it functions as the academic using
the department of education ,Ministry of human resource development
(MHRD).

7. Objectives of NCERT
Undertake , aid , promote and co-ordinate research areas related to school
education
Prepare and publish model textbooks , supplementary material, newsletters,
journals and other related literature.
Organize Pre-service and in-service training for teachers.
Develop and disseminate innovative educational techniques and practices.
Collaborate and network with state education departments, universities,
NGO’s and other educational Institutions.
Acts as a clearing house for Ideas and information in matters related to
school education.
Act as a model agency for achieving goal of universalization of elementary
education
8. Functions of NCERT
Undertakes research relating to problem in school education, pre school
education, Action research etc.
Provides training for administrators , lecturers ,headmasters and subject
teachers.
Prepares low cost Instructional materials
Disseminated innovative teaching method.
Conducts periodicals surveys like All India educational surveys.
Publishes educational reports ,Pamphlets and bulletins.
Give advice to central and state education Departments.
Co-ordinates with other agencies in education ,research and training.

Research ad Training
10. INTRODUCTION
In 1986 National Policy on Education recommended
the creation of state council of educational research and
training (SCERT) in each state as a measure of
decentralization of functions of quality education,
research and training .

To access and evaluate the functioning of DIET,BITE and its content
,resource personnel etc. by conducting periodical reviews.
To put in place the required infrastructure of teaching using digital platforms.
To plan , design and develop training programs at all levels .
To organize in-service training program for teachers to enhance their
professionalism.
To identify innovative teaching learning strategy of teachers and upload them
on internet to encourage them.
To undertake research studies for the welfare of children.

• Organizes pre-service elementary teacher education programs.
• Provides in-service training to practising teachers.

• Select candidate for D.El.Ed course through single window system.
• Develop and revise teacher education curriculum for D.El.Ed.
• Facilitates and promotes the development of professional skill of teacher educators.
• Organize training programs for teacher educators and teachers.
• Promotes co-ordination and linkage with other teacher educational Institutions.
• Develops textbooks for standard I to XII.
• Under take research activities for promoting quality in teacher education and school

• NUEPA was established in 2006.
• Earlier it was known as NIEPA(National Institute of educational planning and
administration) associated with UNESCO’s regional centre for educational planers
and Administration started in 1960-1961 then it changed to NUEPA.

NUEPA organizes applied research programmes in the field of educational
planning and administration with a view to develop educational organizations
in India.
