I. Introduction
II. Advantages Of Welded Joints
III. Limitations and example
IV. Classification of welded joints
V. About Different Type Of Weld Joints
3. I. Introduction
Weld Joint Is Created By Process Of
Welding
What Is Welding?
A Welding Is Process Of Joining Two Metallic Parts Together By Heating
With The Use Of Application Of Pressure And Fusion.
What Is Use OF Weld Of Joints?
Welded Joints Can Be Used As An Alternative To Riveted Joints.
While Welded Structures Can Be Used As An Alternative To Casting Or
Forging.
4. II. Advantages OF Welded Joints
Compared To Other Type Of Joints, The Welded Joint Has Higher Efficiency. An
Efficiency > 95 % Is Easily Possible.
Since The Added Material Is Minimum, The Joint Has Lighter Weight.
Welded Joints Have Smooth Appearances.
Due To Flexibility In The Welding Procedure, Alteration And Addition Are
Possible.
It Is Less Expensive.
Forming A Joint In Difficult Locations Is Possible Through Welding.
5. III. Limitations And Example
Limitations
Welding Component Are Much Poor In Vibration.
Welding Is Not Use In Different Type Of Material.
Example
Welding Suitable For Joining Components In Various Machines And
Structures. Some Typically Welded Machine Components Are Listed
Below.
1.Flanges Welded To Shafts And Axles.
2.Heavy Hydraulic Turbine Shafts.
3.Large Gears , Pulleys Flywheels
4.Machine Frames And Bases
7. V. About Different Type Of Weld
1. Butt Joints:- It Is Obtained By Placing Plates To Be Joined By Side
With Their Edge.
• Square Butt Weld
If the thickness of the plates is less
than 5mm,so edges of the plates do
not bevelling, Then We Use S.B.W
• Single V-butt or U-butt Weld
If the thickness of plates is between
5mm and 12.5mm,so it is necessary
to bevel, Then We Use S.V-B.W OR S.U-B.W
8. Double V-butt Or Double U-butt Weld: If The Thickness Of
The Plates Is More Than 12.5 MM ,It Is Necessary To Bevel
And Weld The Plates From Both The Sides.
Double V-butt Weld Double U-butt Weld
Single U-butt Weld
9. Fillet or lap weld:-it is obtained by over lapping the two plates
It Is Classified Into Two Type
1.Parallel Fillet Weld
If The Load Axis Is Parallel To The Axis Of The Fillet
2.Transverse Fillet Weld
If The Load Is Perpendicular To The Axis Of The Fillet
1.Single Or Double Transverse Fillet Weld 2.Parallel Fillet Weld
10. Other Type Of Weld:-
This Is Classified Into 3 Types:
1.Corner Weld
2.Edge Weld
3.T-weld
